Rating + 3 Used to better stuff from Samsung

Pros: Nice colors, no dead pixels, sturdy and flexible stand. Quick shipping by Newegg. They were also willing to replce the unit, had already a RMA.

Cons: If you want the best out of this monitor, just disregard the software CD that came with it. It is just scrap, very poor, drags the rating down by 2 points.

Rating + 1 Poor reliability, longevity

Pros: Looks very nice, great image.

Cons: My company has purchased a huge inventory of these monitors. A surpising number were dead right out of the box, but were easily replaced under warranty. However, we have had 12 monitors fail in the last several weeks. The failed monitors have been deployed roughly 90-120 days. The backlight goes out, causing parts of the screen to be very dark while others are lit, or the backlight flickers, constantly turning the monitor from light to dark in rapid succession. We've also experienced a high-pitched whine coming from the failed monitors.

There have also been two monitors that have died to image issues. The image is being very strongly shadowed, like a poor TV reception from the ol' analog days.

Other Thoughts: Not worth it. Looks great, decent price, but you really get what you pay for. We've had nothing but problems with these monitors, having to replace many within a few months of purchase.

Rating + 3 Dead pixels, blurry

Pros: It's big, definitely bigger than my last monitor, and a lot better than a CRT.

Cons: 1. 2 dead pixels. I know, I had it for about 6 months before they decided to turn red and stop responding, but I expected more.

2. 20ms response time. If you play any games that depend on assessing the situation instantly, having 20ms before you can clearly see what you're aiming at is a disadvantage.

3. In Vista, it adds an odd red tint to the photo gallery and all photos in it. Doesn't happen with other monitors, just this one.

Other Thoughts: At the time, it was a good purchase. Aesthetically it fits with my desk, and it's great to be able to turn it to get more lines on your screen, especially when coding. But now, I think I'd look for something with a lower response time.

Rating + 4 good monitor

Pros: - unbeatable graphics and text quality
- high resoltion and refresh capability
- good range of viewing angles
- excellent base design
- 3 year warranty

Cons: - color calibration is difficult. I could never seem to quite get the proper color balance with this monitor.

Other Thoughts: After about 6 months of use my monitor developed a red vertical line a few inches from the right side of the display. I sent it back to Samsung for immediate replacement at no cost. Samsung's warranty and customer service are excellent.

Rating + 5 Best Image Quality among 19'' LCDs

Pros: Excellent image quality and color reproduction. Wide viewing angle.

Cons: Not the fastest reponse time, which isn't really a con unless one is a *really intense* gamer.

Other Thoughts: While many monitors are advertised for fast response time, this factor has very little effect for daily use. The cost for having fast response time is using cheap (price and quality-wise) TN panels that have much poorer color and more restricted viewing angle. In contrast, this monitor uses a PVA panel that has slightly longer response time but uncompromised image quality.

Rating + 5 Nice, Very nice

Pros: Ill start off by saying I am (or was) a gamer, i love my first person shooters, and GTA-SA, just because. This monitor is fantastic looking, the color and brightness are superb. Even at full brightness on a black screen there is NO light leak from near the edges. 1000:1 contrast ratio means just that.

Cons: I tend to like darker monitors, just because i do stuff at night, these can't go dark enough for my taste. The 20ms refresh rate is slow, but not horrific. Fast games are still very playable, but some of the detail is lost in the motion. I like UT99, at 155 speed. I can still play just as well, but things look blurry.

Other Thoughts: If you dont plan on playing any superfast games, this is probably the best monitor money can buy (depending on the price). I should give it 4 stars because of the response time, but i knew what i was getting when i bought it.

Rating + 5 great monitor

Pros: very sharp, no dead pixels after more then a year of using, you can see clear picture at _any_ angle, does not look huge

Cons: cables connected to the panel not to the stand (it's not so easy to rotate the panel). The price rose, I bought it for $238, now it cost $310

Other Thoughts: I'd recommend it to anybody whom price is not a factor.

Rating + 5 Yes, it is a PVA panel, pt. 2

Pros: Quality PVA panel.

Cons: Mine makes a medium-pitched hum (around 500 Hz?) if I set the brightness below ~65. If the monitor is used with a quiet PC, it can be irritating.

Other Thoughts: JaSev - sorry, but you really are misinformed:
1. Of course the user manual says it's a "TFT". _All_ LCD monitors on the market are TFTs, PVAs included. Go look up "TFT LCD" on Wikipedia.
2. There doesn't have to be a "P" in the model number for it to be a PVA panel. Google for "lcd_line2005.pdf" -- this is Samsung's product lineup for 2005. The 940T is listed as a "a-si TFT/PVA" panel, along with a number of other models that end in "T".
3. The thickness or presence of ventilation holes is in no way indicative of the panel technology. My 171P also has ventilation holes and is approximately the same thickness.
4. It IS priced like a PVA panel. Why do you think the 940T with its 20 ms response time costs MORE than the 940B with its 6 ms response time?

Rating + 5 Samsung PVA technology

Pros: This is a good a/si TFT

Cons: Hate to go against most everyone, but this panel will indeed have a narrower viewing angle than a PVA. The PVA is the tech with the wide viewing angles ability of 178. See Samsung's website for details, and example images looking at the PVA vs. TN LCDs from all angles.

Other Thoughts: One last tip. Any PVA panel can be instantly recognized because they are all only 1" thick total. They have a very very thin profile, and have no vent openings on the back. Standard TN & A/Si TFT's all have venting, and are about 3" thick like a typical old-fashioned looking LCD. You will know it when you really see a PVA panel sitting next to the older technologies.

Rating + 5 Samsung 940T is a A-Si/TFT

Pros: Excellent monitor for all around use. This is a cheaper panel than a Samsung PVA panel. The PVA has nicer color, but is more ghost prone. A PVA panel is very good for the casual gamer, and awesome all-around.

Cons: This isn't a PVA panel. As X2 mentions, go to Samsung's site, and download the user's manual. It reads: 940T .294mm pitch a/si TFT. This is not a PVA panel. All Samsung PVA panels have a P in the name, since it is there flagship technology. The prices also reflect this. 940B & 940N are both non-PVA monitors. 971P, 173P & 193P are PVA panels.

Other Thoughts: The cheapest 19" PVA starts at around $350 which is a very large price cut from its introduction, which Newegg now has in stock (971P). As always, make sure you read many reviews, and do some homework, before you are mislead by amatuers. Get the owners manual.pdf, and the facts, and find out which monitor is best for you. You can't buy a car that has a 4 cyl engine and also has an 8 cyl engine (as X2 has).

Rating + 5 Yes, it is a PVA panel

Pros: PVA technology (JaSev is wrong; see the specs on the Samsung site).
16.7 million colors without dithering.
Very good color reproduction - much more "CRT-like" than my older-model Samsung 171P (also a PVA).
Excellent viewing angle - the colors fade somewhat if you look at the screen from a sharp angle, but text is still completely readable.

Cons: Response time not as low as "gaming" LCDs, but I knew that going in. Viewing angle and color reproduction are much more important to me.

Other Thoughts: I want another!

Rating + 5 Not a PVA panel

Pros: This is a good Samsung TFT/TN LCD, it is not a PVA panel as Newegg is listing it as. A TN (it is) is faster, and better suited for gaming (much cheaper also). A PVA is a superior Samsung product that has top image quality, color, and viewing angle (this is not one of them though).

Cons: Be careful when selecting panels, and make sure to get what you want. There are a few mis-labeled panels claiming to be PVA, which are not. Always check the manuf. web page.

Other Thoughts: PVA panels will always have a "P" in the model number, such as the Samsung 970P, 971P. Check Newegg's link to the manuf. page, and you can quickly learn about TFT TN vs. PVA, and understand the pluses and minuses each of these LCDs.

Rating + 4 Good, But not great

Pros: I have had this as my primary for about 6 months now. It's got a great picture and it really excels in playing back 1080i HDTV through myinternal card. The colors are sharp.

Cons: Has a typical white bleeding problem. The 20ms rating is no joke. This monitor blurs easily.

Other Thoughts: Nothing speacial here. I have a Dell 17" and a Viewsonic 19" and this one isnt as good over the others as the price would indicate.

Rating + 4 Terrific but slow

Pros: Excellent text and color (once configured). Nice stand and overall appearance.

Cons: Distinct ghosting even with fairly slow motion. I had a 3-D fish screensaver and the fish looked fuzzy compared to my previous tube monitor. Turned off screensaver. I knew the monitor's specs were 20ms but from comments here I didn't expect this much ghosting. Most of my use is typical office type work so the slowness isn't a huge drawback. But, if I were buying another monitor I'd get something faster if I didn't have to sacrifice the great text clarity and color.

Pros: Nice bright picture, I use it mostly for gaming and its not as fast as my othe 913v but the view is better, clearer and higher contrast

Cons: Rotatesoftware is not very well written, I had to uninstall it to keep my computer stable while gaming. I use the NVidia rotation software instead

Other Thoughts: the thin edge makes for a nice transition when using three monitors together.

Pros: Bright and sharp screen with zero problem pixels. Flexible stand with no excess bulk.

Cons: You can find similar specs for cheaper.

Other Thoughts: Replaces my old Princeton 15" LCD from 1999. I went with this instead of a $xxx generic, in hopes that it will last 6+ years as well.

Pros: Crisp, clear and appearence is excellant. Wife was impressed with the quality of the picture.
Does very well in gaming, a little ghosting.

Cons: Needs more info in manuals.

Rating + 5 Excellent quality monitor

Pros: This monitor's contrast and colors are incredible. For someone who uses photoshop a lot, I've found the image reproduction of this monitor to be more than satisfactory.
In addition, its very useful to have the ability to rotate the monitor 90 degrees to work on vertical images.
For the money, this is a great monitor

Cons: The "Magic Rotate" software that comes with the monitor to turn the monitor's image 90 degrees is too slow to be useable. I use my nvidia's "nview" instead.

Other Thoughts: Newegg and UPS got the monitor to me a day early. Good work!

Rating + 5 Excellent for Designers

Pros: I researched quite a few monitors, and the color on this Samsung is very accurate out of the box, better than any others I've used, especially for print media. Colors on screen print out that way. Very easy to tweak, too. The monitor is also very flexible, good for low-clearance desk hutches.

Cons: Short delay of "Analog/Digital" box every time the monitor is turned on. Nothing else.

Rating + 5 Fantastic monitor

Pros: I bought this monitor for my new barebones system I built. It is incredible! I don't do gaming, just office work type stuff, and the contrast, color, and crispness of this monitor is terrific. Very wide viewing angle. Very nice adjustment capability (height, pivot, angle).

Cons: The MagicTune 3.6 utility for this monitor is not working with my system, I just need some time to find out why. It might not be the monitor software, it might be the integrated graphics chipset in my computer.

Rating + 5 Awesome Monitor

Pros: Bright colors with crisp and clear images and text. Very easy on the eyes once I adjusted the brightness and contrast. I absolutely love the look and design of the narrow black bevel. The monitor easily adjusts left/right and up/down so you can put it exactly where you want it. I have it sitting right next to my old NEC 19" CRT and there's no comparison at all.

Cons: What exactly is MagicBright, MagicTune, MagicColor, & MagicZone? They're all listed in the specs but it sounds like marketing hype to me. Well, whatever they are they must work cause the monitor looks great. A manual is pretty much non-existent but who reads those anyway. With the compact minimalist design I keep thinking it could be bigger and still fit and look cool on my desk. 19" is plenty big though. Normally I would list price as a con but I think this monitor is worth it, especially when there's a ton of others out there that are way more expensive and not nearly as nice.

Other Thoughts: I spend lots of time in front of the monitor designing web pages, graphics, and general web surfing. Even set at the highest resolution of 1280 x 1024, this LCD is easy on the eyes. I'm not a gamer but the graphics looked really good while testing my system with 3DMark. In short, this LCD kicks some serious behind and I would defintely recommend it!!

Rating + 5 This monitor is awesome!

Pros: Beautiful picture. Great quality. Zero dead pixels. Perfect for typical PC user.

Cons: Getting the settings just right took a day or two, but that's not really a con, just an observation of setting this beauty to perfection.

Other Thoughts: This is my first personal LCD and I absolutely love it. It took some getting use to. I use LCD's all the time at work, but not 19". The size took some getting use to over a few days. I've always had a 17" flat screen CRT at home and I'd been wanting to upgrade for a while, just looking for the right monitor for the right price. I've read a lot of good things about Samsung monitors and it convinced me to go with their product. I really wanted to step up to a 19" from the 17" CRT and I'm thoroughly impressed with my purchase. I'm not a gamer, so I don't know how well it would hold up under those circumstances, but for everyday PC users and internet junkies, this thing rocks!

Pros: Not only is the viewing angle 178/178 without washing out, but the brightness shift from other angles like 120-160 is minimized compared to most other LCD espesially TN films. Colors are more accurate, blacks are nice and dark when brightness is set low.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Now that its 2006, every LCD should look at least this good otherwise why manufacture it at all?

Pros: The Samsung PVA panels have 178 degree viewing angle (a first) and 20ms response time (a first for PVA panels.) This is the most versatile stand on any monitor using this particular Samsung LCD panel.

Cons: Absolutely none.

Other Thoughts: I bought the Samsung 193P for 2.5x this price when it first came out, and it used this same panel. If you are playing lots of games, you want a TN panel. Otherwise, you want a PVA panel, and this is the best out there, and at an incredible price.

Rating + 3 Horrible grays

Pros: Nice base with lots of adjustments
Good interface
No dead or stuck pixels

Cons: Dark shades fall off to black

Other Thoughts: I was hoping to use this for photo work but unfortunately the accuracy of dark shades was way off. I was impressed by every other aspect of this monitor, but ultimately had to sell it on e8ay because of the color issue. The problem was also noticable when watching movies and playing games. I'd estimate that the bottom 10-15% of the tonal range bottoms out to black, or very near black. If you can live with that than this is a fantastic buy.

Pros: -fantastic image quality. Contrast, brightness and color quality is stellar
-best stand EVER. Rotates in 2 planes, tilts, height adjust & has a very small footprint
-good looks
-integrated power supply (I hate bricks)

Cons: -slow response time
-high glare so watch your light sources
-software is lame and buggy, I would recommend only installing the driver

Other Thoughts: Great monitor and easy to set up. The image quality is fantastic and on par with my sony trinitron 19". Response time is too slow for high frame rate games but I played Diablo II on this with no slow down or ghosting. Great choice for graphics pros.

Pros: Good color, thin bezel, adjustable height, horizontal & vertical tilt, rotating base, blue power led, clearly labeled buttons on front, great price!

Cons: 20ms response is a bit slow (though I don't notice it with the type of work I do)

Other Thoughts: I have a 930B and this 940T side by side, and wish I had two of these instead. 940T looks nicer all around, has buttons on front as opposed to underneath, thinner bezel, more adjustable, plus the backlight doesn't bleed around the edges like the 930B (not really noticible unless the screen is totally black - but does annoy me a bit)

Rating + 5 Samsung 940t

Pros: Monitor arrived as scheduled via UPS in good condition with no dead pixels. Newegg did their usual excellent job of handling my order and getting it to me. I had some questions on the product which were handled to my satisfaction. This monitor was very bright when I turned it on, but with minimum difficulty was able to control the brightness with monitor controls. At 20ms this is not a screamer on refresh, but not being a gamer is not a problem. Excellent picture once correctly adjusted.

Cons: I waited for 30 minutes on the phone for someone to answer before I hung up. My second effort to call was within 5 minutes.

Other Thoughts: In registering my monitor, only Canadian forms were included with my order and they referenced the Samsung Canadian website address. I called Samsung customer service which directed me to the US site for online registeration. This monitor is warranted for 3 years parts and labor, but there is a catch which they informed me of. The official registration only warranted the monitor until 11/30/2008. I was told by Samsung that after that date for service I would probably have to fax them a copy of my invoice with vender, date of purchase and other information to handle any problems after the November date. I was assured that with the invoice copy I would have my full three years parts and labor warranty.

Rating + 5 A beautiful monitor

Pros: Easy automatic setup. Beautiful display. Very adjustable screen physically. Very bright and sharp images. No bad pixels. The 178 degree viewing angle really makes a difference.

Cons: Installing the software isn't very intuitive, but it's not hard to use either. I wouldn't discourage anyone from getting this monitor for this reason.

Other Thoughts: I got this for the specs and the adjustability. I'm very happy with this monitor. It's very attractive too. 20 ms is slow compared to some others, but I'm using this for web design, not gaming so it's quite satisfactory.

Rating + 5 Comes with everything

Pros: This monitor is perfect. It has an adjustable stand, you can raise it, lower it, rotate it. It comes with both DVI and D-Sub cables. I bought the 910t in April, '05. Samsung doesn't make that model any more, but the 940t is the closest thing to it and it is better. There are more on screen adjustments, it has higher resolution, it has better response time. I use both monitors side by side for my workstation, the 910t and now the 940t and I am a very happy camper. Newegg delivered in two days. The 940t may cost a little more than some of the other Samsung monotors, but for what you get and with Newegg's price, what more could you ask for?

Rating + 5 Excellent 19" LCD with wide viewing angles

Pros: 178 degree viewing angles, 20ms refresh (good for these viewing angles), thin bezel, pivot (for documents), height-adjustable / tilt / swivel, stylish, nice looking buttons, nice configuration icons, low power (38 watts), comes with both VGA and DVI cables, new model

Cons: Not super-fast refresh

Other Thoughts: I have two of the previous generation "best" 19" LCD choices from two of the top three brands (one of which is also a Samsung), and two good-quality 17" LCDs. This relatively new model from Samsung is right up there. Viewing angles are also up there with the best at +/- 178 degrees: color and brightness change minimally as you move around the room (good for guests too). In contrast, the majority of < 16ms refresh LCDs with narrow viewing angles (everything between 120 to 160 degrees is narrow, and I'm not kidding about 160 being narrow) markedly change in brightness and color if you move your head a few inches. There are more expensive 19" LCDs with the same wide viewing angles and an even better refresh rate, but you pay for it. Finally, I think this model really looks more stylish (thin bezel, nice buttons and configuration icons, the stand) than any of my previous monitors, where form meets function, and will look great at home or in a high-tech office environment.
