Pros: Great LCD for the price. Very bright display, clean design. Very compact on my desktop. Zero dead pixels upon arrival and a snap to set up.

Cons: The base tilt adjustment leaves a little to be desired.

Pros: Light weight, great picture, no dead pixels and comes with DVI cable. Bought this monitor for my wife to replace her 6 year old gateway 17" CRT. She loves it!

Pros: This is the 2nd one of these I bought. I got one for my dad too. Speakers are fine for basic sound. No burn in either. Just turn it off when you're not using it, it'll be fine.

Cons: Power button takes some getting used to. It blends in with the panel, no big deal though.

Pros: Awsome refresh
Good color quality
nice brightness
DVI and D-Sub cables are nice.
The price is right

Cons: speakers suck--but that is expected...they are on a monitor after all
minor burn-in issues (only if the same image is on the screen for ~12 hours or so. Leave it off for a couple of hours and it's gone)

Other Thoughts: I have oned one of these for over a year now and do not regret my purchace at all. In fact, I am tempted to get two more.

Every LCD gets burn-in...just use a screensaver or leave it off when not in use. Leaving the monitor off for a couple of hours fixes it

This is really a great monitor. stop reading this review and buy it!

Pros: Great response time, great contrast, good brightness. DVI and Analog are both a nice bonus!

Cons: Poor speakers. Why did they put these on here?

Other Thoughts: Overall, this is a solid LCD display. For the price, the response time, size and DVI, I really can't think of a better deal. I had initial doubts about such a low-priced LCD, but after reading all the reviews, I came to realize Viewsonic has always been a quality company, so this screen would most likely also be nicely put-together. When I got the screen in the mail, I was much impressed, both by Newegg's delivery time (3 day shipping for $9.99? How cool is that?) and by the quality of the display itself. If you are thinking about getting this display, I say: "go for it!"

Pros: I use this on my desk at work and have about a half dozen of these on the desks of managers in the company. No complaints from anyone. Great monitor. I'd definitely recommend it.

Cons: A headphone jack would be nice but no big deal.

Other Thoughts: Have only had one monitor issue (old 19" CRT) that I had to RMA back to Viewsonic last year. Quick response, had a new one in less then 2 weeks and this was on a monitor that was already 2+ years old. Not sure why others are seeing long turn around times.

Pros: Just a note to anyone interested. There was a complaint posted about poor customer service from Viewsonic. I had occasion to call their warranty service, today, and it took all of 60 seconds to get through. I purchased a 48 hour guaranteed replacement warranty from Viewsonic, for this monitor. (good for 3 years and they pay all shipping costs both ways) $15 total cost. How can people whine about RMA or repair taking weeks, when all they need do is pay $15 and avoid any problems. I don't see how customer support can get more reasonable than that. All warranties, whether for a new car or a new monitor, are pretty standard. It has always been understood, by me, that warranty repairs are accomplished according to Vendor timetables, not customer needs. (Unless additional warranties are purchased)

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: There seems to be an increasing amount of complaints about products purchased at NEWEGG. I've been buying here for years and the few times I've had any difficulties, the NEWEGG support personnel have been extremely reasonable in working out a resolution. Perhaps that's because I take the time to understand all the particulars about a product and the rebates, shipping, etc. that are part of the deal, BEFORE I make the purchase.

Pros: VERY bright screen, fast refresh rate, connected using DVI - looks GREAT!

Cons: Short cable from connector-to-box, it 'hangs' from the monitor instead of being long enough to lay on the floor. That alone is just me being picky!

Other Thoughts: Bought two of these for a customer. This review is for one of them, since I didn't unpack/setup the other. I would imagine it is the same great quality, though.

Pros: Very crisp and clean picture. No dead pixels, arrived a day early, go New Egg! Games look great, and so does Xorg running under Gentoo Linux. Speakers not bad for 2 watts.

Cons: None really. Seen a few people review this saying they see ghosting after a few months. None here for me.

Other Thoughts: You might have to turn the brightness all the way down, it is too bright for me by default. Viewsonic is great though.

Pros: Crisp clear and fast.
Colors are bright at first, so be sure to turn em down a notch, after that, the flaws are unable to be seen.

Cons: I dont have digital sound, kinda wish there was a way to set that up so i have an extra speaker... thad be cool.

Other Thoughts: Listen, if your that guy or girl that doesnt know if you wanna make that switch from a standard CRT monitor to a LCD, you should do your research, and look for good prices, and response time, but at the moment, this is the best bang for the buck.

Other Thoughts: Get a Sam###g instead. I don't care what anyone says. It doesn't matter how offten you run a screen saver, or set the screen to turn off it will not help with the Burn in issues these monitors sometimes have. And their customer service is horrible. I'm still waiting on my second RMA after a month. The first took 6-7 weeks. They have never contacted me to say whats going on with it. I have done RMAs before with manufactures, and they ussually contact you after they recieve and test the product.

Pros: VERY Crisp and clear. I love this monitor. I don't notice any real slowdown from a CRT at all. No ghosting yet, and it's been on probably more than it should. No dead pixels. Bright.

Cons: Speakers are unnecessary. They're good for average system use but I didn't stick with them; they're tinny sounding.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this expecting great sound or anything. But the monitor end of the deal is absolutely fabulous. I can't even stand to look at a CRT anymore. They seem blurry. This monitor spoiled me.

Other Thoughts: Looking over other reviews i have a couple items of review. First burn-in can be avoided , this happens on most LCD moniters to some extent. Set a screen saver and set the moniter to turn off after an hour or so. If your a gamer (like myself) and play games for hours on hours, simply take a break and turn off the moniter while your getting a drink or whatever your doing. And the other item is tilt. Some said it needs a tilt. You may think their talking about the up and down poisioning of the moniter. Its not. The moniter can be adjusted. Tilt it unnessasary.

Pros: Packaging was good, one LCD box came somewhat crushed and the LCD came out perfect. Easy Setup. Comes with both cables! built in speakers (tweeters). I use a splitter and just added the LCD speakers to my current speakers and it sounds better. No dead pixels out of 20. Great picture quality. Brightness is perfect, not to much or to dark.

Cons: blue popup box telling you its switching modes.

Other Thoughts: We ordered 20 of these, and are planning on ordering another 20.

Pros: The only thing I can think of is the 8ms response time. Maybe having additional speakers.

Cons: Do not buy this monitor. You will get burn-in after only a few months use. I had to turn my monitor off for a week straight to get all the burn-in to go away. After I got rid of it I used it for 2 days and it all came back. Whatever background I am using it will burn the outline of any images. The worst part are borders around the screen from the burning-in of my web browser into the screen.

Other Thoughts: I wish I had gotten a different monitor. Like others, I thought ViewSonic was a decent brand. They may be but this monitor is terrible.

Pros: Beautiful picture, sharp, vibrant. No ghosting compliments of 8ms response time. Speakers aren't bad, yeah they have no base but what did you expect out of smaller speakers like that? No dead pixels.

Rating + 1 RMA Nightmare


Pros: At this point none!

Cons: Burn In! Customer service! Bought this monitor 8 months ago. Didn't have my computer buit yet. Finally every thing was done and I Used the monitor for about 3 months, and got horrible Image burn. I mean like 10 minuties on firefox and you could see the tool bar on the desk top. 1 month latter RMA-ed it. Took 2 months to get it back. They didn't send a DVI cable even though I sent mine to them, and it has the exact same problem. And some kind of grease on the screen. It almost as if they got it, keept it for a while, got some crud on it, and sent it back. Now I have to send it back agian. At least this time they are paying the shipping.

Other Thoughts: I don't think I will ever buy a viewsonic product agian! Oh yeah, I tryed everything to get rid of the burn in with the help of their customer service. Thats why it took a month to RMA it. You know I got a viewsonic because I figured it ment better quality, but I probably would have been better off going with a different company.

Cons: After 8 months of use, the color uniformity across the screen is deteriorating (it was never great to begin with, but has gotten steadily worse). The bottom of the screen is much brighter than the top (too bright, looks washed out). The same can be said for the left and right edges (washed out, black does not show as true black). The middle area of the screen is the only part that has great image quality.

Other Thoughts: Didn't think I would have problems. I bought Viewsonic for a good price and reliability. Unfortunately, it was the wrong choice.

Other Thoughts: Well, the reason I am making this review is because I have been having problems with "burnt-in" images being stuck on my screen. I have always had my monitor turn off after an hour of no use and my screen saver comes on after 10 mins. Anyone know what causes this and how to get rid of it? I've tried unplugging the thing for 24 hours but nothing changed. I have a huge outline of a windows xp logo (from using the xp background) in my screen that won't go away

Pros: Great image, easy config, analog and DVI input, comes with DVI cable, no dead pixels, excellent value

Cons: The support does not have height adjustment. The speakers are a joke, but who cares.

Other Thoughts: I use it with a Geforce FX5600 in DVI mode. I´m not a gamer. I use this to write code. I put the brightness level to minimum, otherwise it was way too bright. Very nice monitor. I´m getting two 19" 8ms Acers next week, so I can do dual display, and this 17" will go to my brother-in-law for Christmas.

Pros: This monitor is great. Playing FEAR on it I have no ghosting, bluring, anything. The screen is really bright and crisp with the DVI cord. No dead pixels :)

Cons: I guess the only con I can think of is the speakers. But who actually buys a monitor for the speakers? They are good enough for the average internet user.

Comments: I've got horrible burn in on mine too. I'm going to be sending it to view sonic tomarrow. What a bummer. I hope that they are not all this way and they can replace it with one that doesn't have this problem. Watch out for this problem. I was in the process of buying my parts when I got this so by the time I noticed the burn in it had been over 90 days and now I have to pay the shipping to the manufacturer.

Comments: Wonderfully clear, no dead pixels in over 2 months use and a very sharp & color correct picture. Impressed. However... don't get this thing because it has built in speakers. They're quite horrible... but I didn't get it for that feature so I'm not deducting from it's rating on that flaw.

Comments: This monitor is really amazing. I can play any game I've tried with no ghosting, it has a very easy to use interface with many options, but it has a single problem that is very big to me. Big enough for me to only give this awesome monitor 3 stars out of 5.

That problem is screen burn in. If you use your monitor a lot, like me, the screen burn in on this monitor is absolutely horrible. I can be browsing the web for a few hours, turn my screen off, and when I turn it back on the next day I have my browser window burnt into my screen. When I move my icons around, they all leave burn ins.

I'm not sure how other monitors compare to this one on that issue, but this screen has a horrible burn in issue if you do things like browsing the web, or messing around in any application for long periods of time.

Comments: WOW though the the price has already dropped since when I bought it, I honestly am still happy I bought it! This screen has incredible resolution, its amazingly bright and all my computer games (CS, HL2, FC) all look amazing. there is NO GHOSTING!!! none, whatsoever! all the gamers who sit in dark basements all day cry and cry about how great CRT's are, well I say screw CRT's this thing is just as good and it fits on my desk and leaves ROOM FOR OTHER STUFF!!! get it.

Comments: Great monitor with excellent picture quality I picked up for my wife. Even at the desired setting of 1280x1024 icons and text are not too small to read. I tried that setting on the CRT and it didn't look right.

Great monitor, however, I also bought the Saxxxng 915N for me and if you are into gaming, spend the extra $xxx bucks because there is nothing like the 915N, its the beyond AMAZING!

Comments: the right price for the right lcd. after a few months of breaking in...no dead pixels or no wear from the onboard speakers (even though i recommend getting a pair of crative inspire 2.1s).
-
the only slight problem i am (now) having is burn-in images. seems to only happen at the top of the screen..and show up only on light backgrounds. after a cold reset..it goes away. prolly an issue with heat ventilation.

Comments: Amazing clarity and WOW what a dramatic change from our old CRT. The first LCD for us but certainly not the last. Great price and 8ms response is awesome. Viewsonic is certainly the leader for quality, value and performance. ZERO dead pixels was what i expected and is exactly what I got. Combine Viewsonic LCD with NewEgg and you have a combination that can't be beat. Everything I ordered came a day early, as usual. Thanks NewEgg!!!

Comments: All I can say is..WOW. Im used to seeing LCD monitors and their usually not that great quality. But after seeing this one, WOW. Its so bright and the colors are just vivid. It may be 17" but it feels like 19". The DVI is awesome along with its VGA counterpart and even what people say, the controls arent that bad. Havent tried the sound but then again, their 1w speakers (x2) On top of it all, the price is great! Thanks newegg! You rock!

Comments: This is a great monitor for every purpose, from basic browsing, to CAD design, to gamming with it's fast responce rate. Colors are very good for an economical LCD. It's only downside is that pictures can look blown out and the integrated speakers aren't great, but that is to be expected. Overall, it's hard to beat for the price.

Comments: This ViewSonic VA712B is an excellent LCD, 8ms response shows NO ghosting in any games played from WoW, Doom, HL, FarCry, etc. This was all tested with using the 15-pin dsub off an old Gforce3 card.

Quality is excellent, no dead pixles. Speakers leave a little to be desired, but are on par with other types of built-ins, so no complaints. Brightness and contrast are great and I even had to turn them down.
1280x1024 res crisp, clean, clear. 1024x768 res ok, slightly blurry, but satisfactory for not being the native res of the LCD.

At this great price, 8ms response, high quality LCD, and the ViewSonic name, this 17" just can not be passed up!

Comments: Very good monitor. Simply just mind-blowing! My first lcd, and best of all NO DEAD PIXELS!!! Just love it! Viewsonic is better than all of those other brands...if you are choosing between viewsonic and another brand...go for viewsonic!! And best of all NO DEAD PIXELS! But beware, for apartment customers, address checker is incorrect, took Fedex about 3 days to fix problem. WORTH THE WAIT THOUGH!!! NO DEAD PIXELS!!!

Comments: good response time, clear and crisp images, you wont be disappointed w/ this one. has dvi and vga, only thing i dont like is the fact that you have to mess around with the controls to switch inputs if you decide to switch between setups. but other than that its a good buy, only problem is finding some desktop photos in 1280x1024...

Comments: I was disappointed when I could not afford the other more expensive version of this LCD because of cash restraints. I must say that it is bright, sharp and shows colors pretty accurately.

Comments: I came from an old Relisys monitor, from 1997... the pictures on WoW are so crystal clear it seems like I could reach in and touch them with this monitor. Like I'm not looking at a monitor but really looking into the game world. Unbelievable quality and picture. No dead pixels either. I highly recommend this monitor. It even has DVI.

Comments: So far this would be nicest LCD monitor I've seen,for moment had isssue in games but raised monitor refresh to 75 under digital and now looks very good.In 2D very good quality,brightness and colors are just right,set and forget kinda of setup.Picture is as good as any CRT monitor,so far best from all LCD I dealt with.
Only problem? I wish I had 19' just like this :-(

Comments: I bought this monitor to replace my 3 year old VG750. The VG750 still works great with no dead pixels. I recieved the VA712B a day early, thanks new egg. The monitor is half the weight of the VG750. The VA712B came with zero/no dead pixels. I is allot more clear while playing games like half life 2 and Battle Feild vietnam. It is 50% more clear with movies. It is really bright. My VG750 could never get this bright and clear. I also can finally use the digital imput from my 6800GT that I could not use with the VG750. I tell you the 8mns really makes a differents in game and movie play. I am glad I purchased this monitor. I stayed with viewsonic becouse they are simpley the best. I use them at work and home. I can garantee that you will love this monitor.

Comments: The ususal props to Newegg and FedEx. The monitor arrived with no dead pixels, and is more attractive in person than in the photos here. I guess the camera really does add 10 lbs. The default settings are bright enough to make an earthworm squint, but a little tinkering brings them into a realm suitable for the old rods and cones. I was a little worried about the low contrast specs, but the color saturation is great and no bleedthrough. Blacks are black, not gray.

Let's face it, you're here because of the 8ms, DVI in, and brand reputation, all at a decent price, and you're wondering, "How does this compare to those better looking, trimmer LCDs?" Well:
- the 8ms gives a great response time for gaming and warching movies/TV
- DVI is a nice option, even if your current video card doesn't support it. Admit it: you're already mentally shopping for a new video card (who isn't?) which will use DVI.
- It's got a great picture for text, graphics, and gaming. No noticeable color gradient on the desktop, unless you oversaturate the color settings.
- The speakers are laptop quality, 2 watts. THX certified, this ain't.
- You want high fashion, buy something from a glossy magazine full of airbrushed people. You want a solidly built monitor with a great picture at a decent price, buy this. If Newegg drops the price again and you don't buy, it's only yourself you're hurting.

Comments: This ViewSonic VA712B-1 17" LCD monitor is a great buy I highly recommended it! On arrival, it came with ZERO DEAD PIXELS which was a huge relief considering I had to RMA the previous LCD I had ordered. Very high quality (ViewSonic is awesome), high brightness, crisp display, very good refresh rate all at a great price from NewEgg. Would buy this again, no regrets!
