The best 720p projector
Pros: During the last 6 months i have spent looking at reviews of projectors, i decided on this projector. Yes, it is lcd but this thing is just as good as the dlp styles. The black levels were a small concern to me. The reviews said that lcd does not have deep blacks like dlp or xga projectors. I purchased a grey screen to help compensate for this and the black levels are extravagent. The picture clarity is insane, and the colors are out of this world. This is by far the best projector i have ever seen, and with the rebate on now this is the best time to buy it. I just looked at a sony projector and looked terrible compared to this, and it was double the price. I don't know what the sanyo projector looks like in action, but this one is fantastic and is sure to amaze you every time you turn it on. what else could anyone ask for than a 92" screen that looks just as good as the plasmas for half the price.
Cons: THe only problem is that when you are using the hdmi cables, the "hdmi audio not supported" error flashes on the top screen every time a new audio is started.
Other Thoughts: If anyone wants to ask any questions feel free to email me at
As always Newegg got this to me in 3 days. Great service guys!

best display I've ever watched
Pros: I've owned this projector for just over 6 months now, and have put about 600 hours use on it. Everytime I power this baby on I'm amazed all over again at how great it looks. Projecting onto a 120" matte 1.0 gain screen, this thing looks absolutely amazing. I haven't been to a movie theater since I bought it, the Xbox 360 graphics look superb, and the hdmi connection to my PC makes the 13 or so gigabytes per 1080i movie worth it.
Cons: Really looks best in a dark room, of course a grey screen would improve ambient light performance, but I just turn the lights off (the projector lights up the room well enough to walk around, etc). Picture is not as sharp as some HDTVs, but this removes the grainy-ness I've noticed in HDTV content AND gives (in my opinion) a more theater quality picture (picture is still sharper than any theater I've ever been too).
Other Thoughts: If you've considered a plasma/rear-projection then think again. This performs far better, provides a larger picture (size is up to you really, another advantage), and still costs less than most plasmas (even with bulb replacement).

Very good projector . . .
Pros: This projector is very good even with some ambient light present. Naturally the black levels will suffer with a lot of ambient light but turn out the lights and then they are deep. Very clear picture, great colors right out of the box, quiet except when you power down the projector, lens shift and zoom work very well, and it has plenty of inputs.
Cons: If you prefer the sharpest image possible, this is not your projector. Look at the Sanyo Z4. There is no zoom or focus control on the remote.
Other Thoughts: I'm extremely happy with this projector, even when it's projected on a white sheet or wall. The screen will be here soon so I'm sure it'll be even better. I'm using this with Time Warner HD and my Oppo DVD player and the picture is certainly good enough for me. While this is not as sharp as Sanyo's pj, I prefer this one because of the better colors and cinema-like picture (not super duper sharp).

Exceeded My Expectations
Pros: Easy setup. Great "out of box" picture quality for those who don't like to tweak. Plenty of connection options. Great flexibility on throwing distance. HDTV as well as upconverted DVD's look fantastic. No picture artifacts of any kind.
Cons: There is one small annoyance that I do find with this machine. Whenever you are using HDMI over DVD, you will get this HDMI audio not available message every time A movie begins. There may be a way to disable, I havn't checked yet. Like I said, small annoyance.
Other Thoughts: I bought the Panasonic because after doing LOTS of research I felt this would be the best possible thing for the money. And BOY was I right. So far I am very pleased with this product. Newegg got it to me in 2 days flat. Yes, this is a LCD, but the black reproduction is still great. No screen door effect visible AT ALL. My Samsung upconverting DVD player presents spectacular images over HDMI. My HDTV cable looks even better over component video. Overall I am very happy with my decision and I would do the exact same thing again. Be sure NOT to buy an expensive screen. Go and buy GOO-Systems digital lite grey and have a 130" like I do. The heck with a screen! Why not use the whole wall!!!!!

Best LCD project in this price range
Pros: I never new front projection could look so good. On my matte white 76" screen, the picture is comparable or better than any 60+ inch rear projection tv (DLP or LCD) or LCD/Plasma flat panel. The smooth screen technology really eliminates SDE (screen door effect). DVD over 480p looks like film in the theater. Lens shift makes setting this up quick and easy on a table top or bookshelf. PC Games over DVI/HDMI look unbelievably real (COD2, Most Wanted etc). Looks great out of the box. Only slight calibration needed if you feel the need to tweak it. Cinema 1 and 2 are best for DVDs if you can have completely darkened room. Lots of tweaking info available from other AE900u owners if you lack experience (googleIt). DVD over progressive component looked better than DVD over HDMI from my computer (this was due to something on my computer and not the project as other material from my PC over HDMI looked awesome)
Cons: Black levels still not on par with $4000 DLP but hey, it cost half as much and still has better blacks than my 20" Dell 2005 LCD monitor.
Other Thoughts: I bought this projector after researching a few others (Sanyo PLV-Z4, InFocus 5000 etc) and after seeing it in use at my dad's house on both a 120" screen and a massive 186" (15.5 feet) screen. After reading many comparison reviews between the AE900u and the Z4, I have come to the conclusion that the only advantages of the Z4 is slightly sharper image for DVDs (not HDTV) if you sit more than 1.5x screen width from screen. Z4 has too much SDE to sit much closer than that. Also, lens shift is somewhat more flexible on the Z4. This project can't be beat by anything under $2000 and especially while the rebates are available. Neweggs prices are some of the most competitive so don't feel you have to look else where if you don't want to. One other note: If you already have a good progressive scan DVD player, don't bother getting an upconverting player and save your money for either an HD-DVD or Blue-Ray player.

Strong performer
Pros: Resolution ideal for HD content, multiple inputs (including HDMI), superb picture (including deep black tones), large image (even with limited throw distance), quiet fan
Cons: Cost of projector (unless get the mail-in rebate), cost of replacement lamp, limited "universal" remote function
Other Thoughts: I researched multiple projectors for months (including Sanyo PLV-Z4 and a Mitsubishi DLP) before picking this one . The AE-900 seems to represent the best price-performance point. I am picky about image quality (including screen-door effect and black tones), noise, and compatibility of different AV components. Combine this with an upscaling DVD player (I used OPPO's OPDV971H for the Faroudja scaler) and you have a very high-end video setup for less than $2500. I also recommend a screen (expensive) or special paint (cheaper, such as Goo Systems) to improve the clarity of the image. The next step up (1080p and HD-DVD or BluRay player) will cost in excess of $10,000 for the next 1-2 years.
