Rating + 4 Good monitor, but expect bleeding.

Pros: - Awesome size
- Good colors, bright, clear picture etc.
- No ghosting due to 3ms response time

Cons: - Menu is a little quirky, but useable.
- Blacks are not true blacks
- Don't like the way it makes you switch from VGA to HDMI
- Only one HDMI port
- Bad backlight bleeding around all four sides.

Other Thoughts: I would really like to emphasize how bad the blacklight bleeding is. There is about an inch of misty whitish bleeding around all four sides of the screen when black colors are on the screen. It is not completely horrible, but it is rather annoying on black screens. I'm quite sure just about everyone who buys this monitor experiences this, but doesn't understand what it is, and even refer to it as 'ghosting', which is incorrect. I've read several forums where people experience the exact same level of backlight bleed as I do. Every LCD screen has some level of backlight bleed, but this really just has too much. I have email Hanns-G about it to see if I can get a replacement, but have not had a response yet. If this blacklight bleeding was fixed, I would give this monitor a 5/5 - 10/10, but with this issue it's a 8.5/10 for me.

Rating + 5 bang for the $$$

Pros: I have 3 of these monitors now. I had 1 that I picked up a couple years ago at a bigbox store and just got 2 more on black friday. sheer size is amazing for the cost. people are awestruck when they walk in my office and see 3 side by side.

Cons: not really a con of the recent purchases, but the one i bought a while back is not as bright as the new ones forcing me to dim the brightness on the new ones to match. also the old one has a slight flicker to it. it has been on 8hrs a day minimum for a couple years so i cant complain.

Rating + 4 Nice monitor for the price.

Pros: Good size, nice looking. Good quality overall.

Cons: Only 1 HDMI port. Wish the stand would telescope upwards. The side configuration buttons are a nuisance. There should be seperate buttons for volume control.

Other Thoughts: The speakers are okay, I wouldn't advise depending on them for quality sound for gaming or anything. Nice large monitor for the price.

Rating + 5 Satisfied for price

Pros: Very cheap, less than half the price of the competition.
Lots of screen real-estate for playing games and watching movies.
The simple straight edge design for the bezel is very appealing. The stand also feels sturdy.

Cons: Only 1920x1200 resolution, big screens like this should go to 2560x1200, but this was also less than half the price of the competition.

Backlight bleed is severe, this is especially noticeable when watching a movie and it fades to a black screen. You sort of see the white light make an 'X' figure. Not noticeable during normal usage in a more color-vibrant environment, such as browsing or playing games.

Other Thoughts: This is the best performance-for-the-dollar on a screen you could get. I am not sure how the brand name or the quality of the product will hold out in the long run.
Don't buy this three hundred dollar monitor expecting a thousand dollar monitor, no free lunches here. Just a really value-oriented product that strips down all excess to bring 28" of screen real estate at the three hundred price point.

Pros: one of the best monitors, i've own. 1920x1200 is huge which means more space on desktop. only 800:1 but is still very good for screen this size. Good response time. Best for gaming.

Cons: could use a DVI port but im ok with DVI to HDMI

Rating + 5 No complaints

Pros: Excellent colors, no dead pixel. Nothing to complaint about. I plan to get another one for my wife when it's in stock.

Cons: Non concerning the monitor or Newegg. However I'm not fond of UPS since the person left the monitor/package behind a bush at my front door without leaving a note, when I got home from my office it was already dark & I almost missed seeing the package.

Other Thoughts: As stated in prior posts, I had to turn down the brightness. Also the built-in speakers are adequate at best, but since I have my own speakers it was a non issue. I got this monitor from Newegg approx 6 months ago, but waited until now to put in my 2 cents worth since I wanted to see if problems will develope, & I'm glad to say that the monitor has work flawlessly from day one. Nothing to complaint about at all.

Rating + 1 Failed after ~18 months, problem not covered by 3 year warrant

Pros: It is an awesome monitor....while it lasted.

I've got another HannsG (JW199D) which is fine after ~4 years which I'm using temporarily. So the issue is (probably) quality control is extremely erratic. But I'm never buying Hanns G again. 50% failure rate on monitors in less than 3 years is a joke.

Cons: It failed after 18 months and not covered under warranty. I was told it was cost ~$200 (not including shipping 1 direction) to fix it.

At that price, I might as well buy a new monitor from a country that has better Quality Control.

Other Thoughts: If HannsG doesn't stand by their products for a minimum of 3 years...why should I bother dealing with them? Seriously. And it is a real pain timing wise (Weekend before Christmas? FFS.)

Pros: Great monitor for playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

Rating + 5 The best value

Pros: I was concerned because of the numerous reviews of the monitor dying after a few days, but mine has been very bright and good. even the built in speakers are alright. The only thing is the price seems to fluctuate +/- 30 dollars.

Cons: none!

Other Thoughts: I guess its hit or miss with these, where its maybe 90% hit and 10% miss I decided to go for it and its been great.

Rating + 1 Backligh bleeding

Pros: Big
Cheap

Cons: Backlight bleeding is horrible. I cannot even enjoy using my new 28" monitor. I bought it for gaming and well unless you like a white border around your screen while you play I would not recommend this screen. Get something smaller that works right..

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for... In my mind this is an expensive piece of junk. I feel like I was robbed.

If I could I would give negative eggs.

Pros: Monitor was bigger than I expected. Works great, had no dead pixels. I've got 2 of the rebranded version of the same monitor in a dual setup. Both were under $280 with free shipping for holiday sales. Can't beat the price there for all this screen space.

Cons: The colors aren't perfect. Some detail can be lost in extremely dark areas. I have a laptop and another smaller old lcd monitor that I rely on for accurate colors when checking art projects. I use this for movies, games, and web browsing so it isn't a problem.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you have adequate desk space if you plan to use it for a computer monitor.

Pros: Price, picture quality, solid stand. Amazing brightness and contrast.

Cons: Speakers sound lousy, but they do the job if you don't want extra speakers cluttering up your desktop

Other Thoughts: I paid 260 with free shipping - amazing. I paid 2x as much for a Samsung T260 and this Hanns G is better in all aspects.

Pros: Great picture, cheap (I got it on sale in Nov 09, currently the price is higher. 4 eggs for the current price, which is greater than three hundred)

Cons: build quality is good enough but not great. Buttons feel kind of cheap.

Other Thoughts: My fancy Samsung TV has a beautiful case finish and nice metal buttons that are perfectly flush with the body. In comparison, this monitor has these cheap plastic buttons that shake a bit when you touch them. If video quality is the same, would you pay 25-50% less for this monitor?

Pros: Fantastic color, very bright, great amount of adjustment in the stand.

Rating + 1 Good price, poor durability.

Pros: Bright picture, good color, and contrast with text: good for brightly a lit environment. 1920x1200, and more inexpensive than other models.

Cons: Poor durability. Within one year, started to experience some "fuzzing" (reminded me of the old CRTs) when turned on in the morning which would clear up fairly quickly. Since then the monitors developed snowy vertical lines and and flickering; others won't come on at all. Tested video signal from the snowy/flickery ones on a spare, so this is definitely a monitor issue. Of the 8 we purchased, only 2 lasted more than a year.

Other Thoughts: Single failed pixels within the first month or two on some of the displays. On monitors of this size, this happens and I will not count as a fault. Would prefer the pixel to fail dark rather than red or green, but you don't really notice after a while.

We did not plan on replacing these monitors so quickly. Will never purchase again.

Rating + 5 Beautiful monitor

Pros: Large, 1920x1200, comfortable to use and size vs. price is awesome.

Cons: At first can be annoying to configure and calibrate properly out of the box. Wayyyyy too bright out of the box as well but since none of these aren't problems that can be solved with playing around with the monitor till you are comfortable no eggs were lost.

Other Thoughts: Currently I use this monitor using VGA on my laptop without a problem. I am going to be using it in my current build when I am done. Thing looks beautiful and I have had no problem with ghosting at all. Oh for those wondering it is easier to just calibrate the thing using DVI(adapter included in the box).

Rating + 5 Hanns-G HG281D

Pros: Nice size, contrast and color. An upgrade from my 3 year old 22". Going from 1680x1050 to 1920x1200 wasn't a major difference to me. In games I also dint notice much of a performance hit either with my setup. Comes in a nice package and very well protected. Also comes with any cable you can ever need except a straight HDMI cable. Not really a big deal to me since im using for a computer monitor so its DVI -> HDMI cable worked great.

Cons: Brightness at first is bright! If your using this as a TV then the stock brightness is good. However, if your using this as a computer monitor, you will need to tone it down a bit. I keep mine around 50%.

Other Thoughts: Something failed to mention by any of the other reviews, and was something I searched through every single one trying to find, was if the Rosewill RMS-MA3210 sold here on newegg was compatible with this monitor. I took the leap and got the wall mount as well, and that wall mount fit like a glove on this monitor. That wall mount is a very nice and sturdy mount for anyone looking to mount this screen.

Rating + 5 Great Monitor

Pros: Low price, Great Picture, Insanely bright.(I have mine set at 75 percent brightness and it's perfect for me) Comes with DVI to HDMI cable and a bunch of other cables. Other reviewers say the stand does not swivel? maybe it's been updated because mine can be adjusted up and down and side to side.

Cons: One green stuck pixel. But on a HD monitor of this size only one stuck pixel is not a big deal. I can only see it when the screen is all white and my face is less than a foot from the screen. It's tiny.

Other Thoughts: I have owned this monitor for 2 weeks now. I am VERY satisfied with this monitor it's everything I wanted at a low price. Just be warned its really big. But just small enough that you can have it on the back of your desk and still see everything on it clearly.

Pros: Big

Cons: Newegg service was great. As for the product, it lasted 1.5 years. Called support and they said it would cost 195 to repair. So respectfully, I payed 489( a great price at the time) to get a monitor for 1.5 years... I'm not sending it in. I'll use it for target practice.

Pros: Absolutely awesome picture. Easy to read with regular default Win7 DPI settings unlike most 1080p 22"s that leave you squinting. Not "too big" for use as a regular text document and browser monitor. Not "too small" for movies and games. Games look absolutely amazing at full resolution.

Oh and a 1920x1200 Sophie Howard wallpaper will stop anyone walking by with their jaw at their feet. It's been proven.

Cons: Would be nice to have additional inputs, you only get an HDMI and a VGA although many adapters are given with the monitor.

Other Thoughts: X-Fire color tuning software was fairly easy to use although I ended up using the drivers for the 289. (HF289F_Vista_Driver.zip)

I haven't touched the VGA/analog input so I have not tested how well those work. I haven't use anything other than the 1920x1200 resolution so I can't comment on scaling.

Absolutely best Black Friday gift I've got myself in a couple years.

Rating + 5 Size matters!!!!

Pros: Giant, 28". 1920x1200. Very bright, if you want it bright! No dead pixels... works perfectly. I bought TWO, one for each of the two ports on my video card -- 4,608,000 pixels for less than $600. If you really need a single monitor 2560x1600, then you're going to pay a LOT more for it, and get fewer pixels.

Cons: Two of these take up a lot of space on my desk... but so what! And out of the box, they were TOO BRIGHT, so I was able to tone it down a lot. They beat the heck out of two (other brand) that I paid triple for a couple years ago, and these are not space heaters like the (other brand) were (in other words, energy star compliant). So actually, NO CONS!!!

Other Thoughts: Buy two, they're big!!!

Rating + 4 Loving it

Pros: Loving it so far. HUGE compared to my old SyncMaster 22". After tweaking the settings a bit, the colors are great. Got it for the Black Friday price, couldn't pass it up.

Be prepared for a lot of "WOW!"s and other compliments. Oh yea, and the "That's a TV" joke gets old fast.

Cons: Only 4 stars for a few reasons:
1) you start to see pixelization with "aura-like" graphics. For example, in Dragon Age: Origins, in dialogues the characters have a kind of glow effect, and when this happens, the pixels really stand out, but this is really nitpicky honestly because 99.9% of the time, it is never an issue.
2) Backlight bleed is a little annoying.
3) Angles get funky, best viewed from about 2-2.5 feet while gaming, further for movies.

Other Thoughts: I was on the edge about buying this at the original price, but the second I saw it down to $260 with free shipping for Black Friday, I was scrambling to get my card.

You'll love it, I promise.

Rating + 2 Received with no base

Pros: Ordered on friday got it the next wednesday, kudos to newegg.

Cons: You have to attach the base to the monitor, and when there aint one in the box its almost impossible. Contacted HannsG wednesday and they asked for proof of purchase, so I emailed the order confirmation from newegg, they received it and said they would take care of it, I should receive a tracking number by monday. Its friday and i have heard nothing from them. I've been on hold with their customer support for the last 45 minutes and have yet to talk to an actual person. This may have influenced my overall rating. 56 minutes and i have a person on the phone, base has not shipped yet, let me put you on hold and ill see what the problem is. 10 minutes later, Wellll seems the shipping dept. is at lunch when they come back ill find out whats going on and email you. Kinda what i heard last time, wish me luck.

Other Thoughts: You have 30 days from purchase date to get the monitor back into neweggs hands if there is a problem with it. So if you deduct shipping to you and shipping to them and time to get an rma, you may only have 20 days to check out your purchase. HannsG has just CENSORED away half of that. Fotunately I had an old peice if wood decking laying around, couple of saw cuts and some drilling and countrsinking and i have a workable base. Now I can screw my base to my monitor, while HannsG is CENSORED me. I should probably stop writing or go buy a nice peice of oak and forget about it, oh wait thats HannsG's job, forgetting i mean, not the carpentry.

Rating + 2 Beautiful screen when it works

Pros: This is a big beautiful screen with excellent response time and stunning color that I find perfect for both gaming and office work. Many adjustments to make viewing comfortable.

Cons: Only worked for 3 months then started to flicker uncontrollably. One day it was working perfectly the next it was a hot mess with no warning in between. I am not sure if I was getting responsive customer service or if Hannspree knows that these monitors have flaws but Hannspree gave me an RMA with very few questions and no problem. I guess what I am saying is the person on the other end of the phone didn’t seem to bowled over that I was calling about an issue with this product.

Other Thoughts: When it worked it was a VERY nice monitor that did everything I wanted from it. I took a chance and bought a 28” screen for a 22” screen price and I was burnt for shipping to have it repaired. If you want to take the chance too maybe you will be luckier than I am and get closer to the end of the one-year warranty before you get your replacement.

Cons: The monitor was DOA. No power indication what so ever. Had to pack the thing up and drive to a UPS store to return via RMA. Now I find out that the monitor is back ordered. Nothing like ordering a monitor before Thanksgiving, having my credit card charged and 3 weeks later I have no product. Very dissapointed. I guess I need to start looking at vendor z and vendortd again for merchandise. Very dissatisfied.

Rating + 4 GREAT Customer Support, Repair... not so much

Pros: BEAUTIFUL Monitor! When it works, it works great! Colors are crisp, zero ghosting, etc. Does everything I'd hoped: it even, and I say this with all seriousness, got me a girlfriend (big monitor + movies + no roommate = success).

The Customer Support people at Hanns-G are, without a doubt, the most friendly and helpful of any customer support representatives I've ever spoken to, and that's more than I'd care to count. They go the extra mile, and they seem to truly care about the problem. They go the extra mile, are friendly and patient, and turned this from a two-egg review to a four-egg review. The Customer Support alone is easily worth five, but there ARE cons, so I can't do that in good faith.

Cons: First, Hanns-G's warranty covers everything except the LCD screen itself for three years: the screen itself is only covered for one!

Second, the monitor started having issues after about two years: randomly colored 'dashes' across the screen, plus distortion that 'leaped' upwards and covered the entire screen. I called Hanns-G support, and I was able to send the unit in to be repaired. They turned it around and sent it back out within a day, via ground shipping. A week later, it arrived... and was still broken. I sent it back, this time using a prepaid label, and just got it back for a second time... and it's STILL broken. The guys who do the repairs must REALLY not be paying attention!

Other Thoughts: I have since contacted Hanns-G Support a third time to get this monitor fixed, and they're now offering to do everything they can to replace it, and they're paying for me to ship it to them. In fact, they even offered to box up the Customer Support supervisor's own monitor, which is the same model, and send it to me, if I wanted.

Both times I've had to send the monitor back, Hanns-G Customer Support has been unbelievably apologetic and helpful: they've paid for shipping both ways, both times, and are very willing to help further. I couldn't be happier with the customer support I've recieved from Hanns-G... Their technical support, however, is pretty lacking.

Rating + 2 It's BIG! Actually, it's HUGE!

Pros: This monitor next to my Hanns-G HW223D absolutely dwarfs it. It is huge, bright and pretty clear without setting up anything and it was dirt cheap with the black friday sale. It played COD World at War flawlessly, is very responsive and the colors looked good. Anything under $300 is a pretty sure deal. Windows 7 installed the driver as soon as the monitor was connected and then reconfigured the resolution for 1920 X 1200. No dead pixels.

Cons: Unfortunately I didn't see this 12/1/09 post till after I ordered mine, and as luck would have it, my panel started flickering after about 5-6 hours of use. It sorted itself out after 5 minutes and I used it for about an hour before powering off for the night. On re-start the next morning the panel would not power up and stayed dark. I tried it on one of my other compys and still no screen power. Sent off for RMA which so far has been painless, other than the $32 I had to spend in shipping it back to NewwEgg.

Other Thoughts: here's N/A's 12/1/09 comment on this monitor "The quality of the product is another story. I was so enamored with these monitors - I purchased four of them for my company over a period of time. It appears that they all have a common problem in that the "panel" as their tech support calls it goes bad. It is not covered under their their too good to be true warranty. So far - one by one, the monitors I have purchased started flickering and then go bad just about the time the warranty expires. Hanns does NOT stand stand by their product. I had a couple lengthy phone call with their tech support - to which they stood by their non-warranty non-service policy."

Pros: Excellent display. On the verge of being too big, but not really! LOL
I have had this for over 6 months and it is still just as awesome as when the box
was opened! No dead pixels, no problems, just a must have display for anyone!
1080P, 1900 x 1200 native resolution, there is not a better monitor out there!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Get one. You will not regret it! You could regret not getting it.

Pros: Huge screen, great price.

Cons: Color calibration is a downer! No OSX support/drivers, speakers aren't worth anything, bleed through on sides.

Other Thoughts: I am a graphic designer and color and image quality are very important and after reading reviews of after calibration, it was a great monitor. I simply couldn't afford a 30' apple cinema display. After a week of calibrating and then tweaking settings my colors are pretty close but unfortunately not perfect. I may have to get a pantone color calibrator for exact colors. The work it will take it get correct color calibration will still save me $1,000. So if you need to save money and can handle dealing with calibration it would be a good buy if money isn't an issue just get the cinema display and save yourself the headache. Great for gaming and movies.

Rating + 4 Value & Performance

Pros: The screen has very fast response time (3ms), so its great for gaming. I have played Burnout and Dragon Age at 1920 X 1200 and it is absolutely breathtaking, especially upgrading from my 22" Dell. Once you bring the brightness down a little it has full beautiful colour, and I am even able to do Graphic Design using it. Whats amazing is the PRICE. It was a bout the 1/3 the cost of a 30" Dell, which is incredible. I have no dead pixels, and the assembly was a breeze.

Cons: Watching blu-rays and H.264 presents the usual slight stuttering, as this doesn't have an engine to puch it to 120 Hz or higher, but really not that noticeable on a screen this size. The viewable angles are a bit narrow, so make sure you are going to be straight ahead of it for the most part.

Other Thoughts: People spend loads of money on hardware to upgrade their gaming and multimedia experiences and never upgrade their screens where all that performance comes to life. Just make sure if you plan on gaming on a screen like this, to get a decent video card or you're frame rates will plummit!

Rating + 5 awesome big monitor of awesomeness

Pros: Easy to plug in and no CDs to install it. My ancient mother could figure out the setup on this thing.

Cons: If your video card doesn't support the HD or you don't have HDMI ports the video looks pretty bad. The built in speakers are TERRIBLE. Not sure why they even bothered.

Other Thoughts: This thing is bigger than both my TVs. Since I don't watch them much, it doesn't matter. I watch all kinds of movies on here and they look spectacular. I haven't tried any gaming on it, so have no advice there. Just be sure you have an HDMI port on your computer and your video card is newer otherwise you just bought a bigger monitor with the same poor quality as your old one. Also, it is very BRIGHT.

Rating + 5 Monstrous

Pros: Very large viewable screen for very little money.
Color, Brightness (after toning down the factory setting), and Contrast are all satisfactory.
Sturdy Base.
Nice assortment of cables included.
Well packaged for transport.
No dead pixels that I have located yet.
The monitor itself (non-display part) looks very nice.

Cons: Backlight bleed-through is noticeable more so than any monitor I've seen before. If this monitor wasn't so great in other areas the bleed-through would be a detractor.
Having to go to a menu to switch between inputs is a bit annoying. Indeed all the menu buttons are a bit of a pain.

Other Thoughts: I got this monitor with free shipping. I didn't test the speakers, but who gets a monitor for speakers. Gaming, video viewing, and programming all are great on this monitor. For full screen web-surfing I would say it is too big as most websites either limit how wide they are (facebook) or the paragraphs are very long and thin (wikipedia).

Pros: Large real estate. Makes working on research papers, easy to do. The screen is beautiful, and no bad pixels.

Cons: Does not come with and HDMI to HDMI cable. With more and more video cards and laptops coming with HDMI connections (and to really drive this monitor, your old 7600GT will not suffice) you would think they would include it.

Other Thoughts: I use this monitor for work and play. I connect my HP HDX 16 to it via the hdmi.

Pros: Nice 28" Screen 1080p All out a great monitor

Cons: *I have 1 dead pixel but at 2 feet away from the screen you can't see it.
*It's 800:1 I've tried different settings but when playing HD games areas where the lighting goes dark to lighter the area is harder to see.

Other Thoughts: This is a great monitor for the price 1 pixel doesn't really bother me, did upset me at first but you can't see it and not worth the replace for another.
Would get it if i had to make the choice over great for the price, set the settings just right and you'll do great.

Pros: -Obviously, a fantastic price/screen estate ratio: This thing is HUGE.
-Very solid construction.
-Swivel and tilt mount.
-Great color and contrast with the right tweaking.
-Great response; no ghosting or jitters.

Cons: -Quite a bit of bleeding on the left side and top during black screens.
-Fairy small viewing angle.
-Bad heat dissipation, will likely affect lifespan of components.

Other Thoughts: Without a doubt the best large screen you'll get for this price. Picked it up for CAD 299+FREE shipping. Newegg is simply the greatest!

Rating + 5 wow

Pros: Huge screen, Bright colors, Very cheap. No dead pixels. Great for gaming, watching movies, TV etc.

Cons: Heavy, Stand is not the best of quality. Bezel is very thick. Asthetically this doesn't look as visually pleasing as some of the other 30 inch displays, but for the price, I'm not complaining.

Does get some ghosting and backlight bleeding, but its not so extreme that it distracts you while playing games on it. I only really see it when i'm looking for it. If you're incredibly picky about this, then perhaps you might want to consider a higher quality more expensive model.

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these for a dual monitor setup, and while unboxing the first and seeing how big it was, I did wonder if maybe one would have been enough. They are also quite heavy (somewhere between 25-30 lbs). I had to go out and buy a new desk to support the added weight.

Rating + 4 BIG and BRIGHT

Pros: size to price ratio makes this a clear choice if you need or want alot of on screen real estate to play with. And space is something you certainly wont run out of with this monitor.
It is massive. It also happens to be bright enough to illuminate an entire room.

Cons: splotchy backlight bleed along the bottom and sides is noticeable with dark material (letterboxing makes this REALLY obvious)

Blacks are a little....not as black as they could be. Not a deal breaker, but not considerably better or worse than anthing in this price range.

horrifically, terribly, horribly BRIGHT out of the box. Download or install the driver and the xtune utility if you dont have standalone calibration software.

Other Thoughts: its pretty dang heavy. But paired with an ergotron MX, its flippin sweet.

Rating + 4 Decent monitor

Pros: 1) BIG!
2) Lots of real estate!
3) I don't hear any noise from the monitor like some reviews have complained about.
4) I don't have any heat issues with the monitor like some have mentioned.

Cons: 1) 1 bad/stuck pixel stuck midway up and towards the left on the monitor.

2) VERY BRIGHT! I know that everyone mentions it, but just wanted to mention it again.

3) Box arrived pretty beat up. However, the packing was very good, and so the monitor came out just fine!

Other Thoughts: Various things I think people would care about:
1) Kill-A-Watt specs:
When at 100 for brightness, it uses 102W.
When at 50 for brightness, it uses about 71W.
When at 12 for brightness, (what I settled on for my brightness), it uses about 45W.

2) Dot pitch worries.
The dot pitch of this monitor is larger than your typical smaller monitor. Will it be a problem?
I sit about 20 inches away from my monitor. I purchased this worrying if I would be too close to the monitor, and that I might see "pixeling".
I don't.
However, I think if I sat any closer, it would start becoming a problem.

3) 1 Dead/bad pixel.
I have 1 dead pixel, it appears to be stuck as "blue". (It is hard to tell).
It looks like a very small spec of dust on the screen. I have tried fixing it with the various methods out there, no luck so far.
It isn't bad, and I don't see it unless I am looking for it.
The dead pixel is why I am dinging from 5 eggs to 4.

Pros: It's mere size; it's huge! The prize was reasonable.

Cons: Hanns' Customer service is horrible. Hands down the worst tech service I've ever encountered.

The monitor came with THREE vertical lines (stuck/dead pixels). Fresh out of the box and this is they gave me. Shipping it back would be on your own dime and you have to wait for about a month to get a replacement that isn't your fault.

Buyer beware. You get what you pay for...I guess.

Rating + 5 Incredible value and quality

Pros: Amazing size and picture quality. The value on offer here is simply outstanding. Bright picture with excellent, vibrant colors. Controls easy to use. Good looking product. Does not feel cheap at all.

One big advantage is the resolution. Normally, you would go for the highest resolution (my 30 inch LG W3000H) has higher resolution than this). However, if you are doing normal tasks or playing games then this resolution is just fine. So, you save money on the monitor by getting lower resolution and then you save again because you don't need the latest $600 graphics card to drive it.

Cons: At this price there are no cons. The colors are faded when viewed off angle. If you want to avoid that then spring for a different type of panel at twice the price.

Pros: This is a beautiful monitor. For the price to performace you cannot beat it. I am playing XVID/DVD/Blu-Ray and everything looks outstanding. The connectivity it has is great as well.

Cons: I dont need the speakers. Who uses these? I wish there were multiple HDMI/DVI ports besides the "one of each"

The blacks are not "true" blacks, but again, this is not a $1000 monitor.

You really have to tweak the brightness/contrast.

Other Thoughts: I love it. Simply put, I would never have been able to buy a 28inch monitor until now. Great job Hanns-G

Pros: It's huge, it has HDMI, very clear and crisp images, and particularly because of the price, one of the best monitors for the price, you cannot go wrong with this one unless your desk is so tiny that this monster can't fit.

Cons: It looks like it comes with the brightness setting to the max but can just adjust that it's not really a problem, the speakers aren't the best but I don't mind.

Other Thoughts: I wish I have bought this monitor before, I spend so much time online on a 17'' monitor. Upgrading your monitor is one of the best computer hardware investments because they have very useful and long life without becoming obsolete like most of other components. I highly recommend this monitor.

Pros: I am very impressed, The colors look great and the size is wonderful, downloaded xtune from hanspree and configured it and it is pretty awesome. Cons: wish it had dvi, but ohh well, cant have it all at this price i guess. some reviewers report short life span, hope minehas a long and prosperous life.

Rating + 5 Improved Black Levels

Pros: I bought one around this time last year and just bought another one. My old one was Made in Taiwan in Sept 2008. My new one was Made in China in Sept 2009. Both of them have NO dead pixels! The old one had slightly better fit and finish. The new one has a considerably improved backlight which gives even black levels. The old one worked perfectly as a monitor, but it was irritating to watch dark movies (such as old episodes of the X Files) with lots of dark scenes because each edge had a half moon area that was lighter than the rest of the screen. (This was completely unnoticeable when used as a monitor.) The new one doesn't have this problem.

Cons: The included VGA cable is still poorly shielded and causes some slight flickering. This is slightly noticeable on white backgrounds (eg. Google) and very noticeable on some gray backgrounds (eg. Photoshop Elements). The cables are identical but my old monitor flickered more than my new one. Fortunately I kept the thick, high quality, well shielded cables from my Samsung 191T's (which I also bought from Newegg and paid an arm and a leg for) and they eliminate the flickering altogether.

Other Thoughts: The packaging has changed. The old one came with the bottom of the stand already attached so all I had to do was remove the monitor from the box and set it on my desk. The new one required me to attach the bottom of the stand using 3 screws and an included allen wrench. The old one had 4 styrofoam blocks which protected each corner. The new one had 2 large styrofoam blocks, each enclosing an entire side. (The middle was still unprotected.) These bigger blocks, as well as the unassembled stand bottom, in my opinion would survive rough handling from the Men in Brown much better than the old ones. With this new packaging, I am confident it would survive if kicked off a truck by a Man in Brown.

Rating + 5 IF YOU DON'T LIKE THIS YOU ARE CRAZY!

Pros: Fantastic!! Probably one of the best monitors I have ever owned. This replaced a LG which had died on me after only 2 years. The Color is very bright and watching DVD is a wonderful expierence! I am not sure why there were negative comments. Assembly took about 15 seconds and it even came with the required tools! I use XP x64 and it recognized the new hardware and auto-installed with no hitches, which is really cool because I have problems with finding compatable hardware/software for 64 bit XP. CD does come with install driver for Vista x64 for those Vista users. I havn't tested the speakers as I use a sound card with 5.1 Surround Sound System, which will blow ANY Monitor Speaker away. THIS IS A DISPLAY NOT A SOUND SYSTEM. If you don't like the sound, cough up the 100 bucks and get a sound card and a Surround System! And if you shop around I am sure you can get them cheaper.

Cons: NONE Except, when reading a document in full screen, I have to turn head from side to side now! LOL

Pros: HUGE. I can't say how much bigger the monitor is than what I imagined. I did come from a 19"crt though. Regardless, it is a huge monitor and nicely stretched 1900x1200 resolution.

I use it for gaming and of course your casual web browsing as well. Incredible picture. (I am not a videophile though)

Cons: Not a bust on newegg, but the shipping box. When it came to my front door the top of the box had been opened?

I double checked and triple checked. All the parts where there and no damage to the monitor itself thank goodness!

Other Thoughts: No dead pixels, no worries. I might need to upgrade my outdated hardware to fully utilize this nice monitor and get all the eye candy I can get.

Rating + 5 Value

Pros: -Price *****
-Sturdy and solid base
-Good color
-Very bright
-Good contrast
-Built-in speakers
-No visible defects (bleeding, dead pixels, etc.)
-No observable ghosting
-All possible cables are included (HDMI, DVI, VGA, Audio, and Composite.)

The overall value of this monitor would easily put it above 5 stars. The picture is sharp and text is easy to read even at the highest resolution. Assuming that nothing breaks or fails in the near future, this will be the most satisfied I have been with an electronics purchase. My only disappointment is that I didn't buy two of these while they were on sale.

Cons: -Viewing angle
-Controls
-Speaker placement/quality
-Headphone jack audio quality

The viewing angle is probably the biggest complaint and some color shifting can be seen at roughly 120° which was about on-par with my other lcd monitors.
The controls are placed in back which makes them a little difficult to use if you are in a dark room. The settings menu is fairly basic. The The speakers are not high quality and placed in the back which could be a problem depending on your setup. Still, they are convenient and loud enough. The headphone jack on the monitor is a nice feature but the jack is not easy to get to (located in back) and the audio quality is very poor. I like it because my rig does not have audio jacks in the front so having a headphone jack in the monitor is easier to get to than the back of my comp.

Other Thoughts: If you are heavily into graphics editing where color and consistency are paramount than this is not the monitor for you. (But you probably already knew that)
If you are looking to upgrade one of your smaller lcd screens with something that doesn't cost more than a house payment this monitor will not disappoint. Great for gaming, watching movies, surfing the web, and everything else that you like to do. The minor flaws go completely unnoticed under normal every day use and overall the value is fantastic. 5 stars *****

Pros: Bought this on the Black Friday deal. Can't beat the price, even now, for the size. Knowing this is a budget brand, I was still quite surprised by both the image quality and construction quality. All very good. Rating + 3 large, stylish, and affordable but at a price

Pros: Solid, well-built, inexpensive, no dead or stuck pixels on mine, stylishly designed, very bright, response time good. Arrived on-time and in mint condition. The stand has a metal base which is plenty sturdy. Pretty decent if all you're going to use it for is to watch HD content.

Cons: Low pixel density - at 27.5" viewable, 1900x1200 is difficult to adjust to coming from a smaller display with similar resolution. Standard def. content seems pixellated and 'edgy'.... anything that is scaled at all looks even more so. Requires a lot of 'tinking' to make bearable at close range. Factory defaults make eyes bleed. Should have come with a DVI dual-link port and cable(comes with just an HDMI port and single link cable adapter), but it is cheap, so I didn't expect the world. Also the monitor adjustment controls on the right side of the screen are poorly placed and insanely unintuitive to navigate(even for an engineer); practically unusable - use X-tune instead.

Other Thoughts: I went from a CMC/PolyView V293 19" I bought 4 1/2 years ago to this. (I think it is an MVA panel with 26mm pixel pitch) I actually wish I would have just bought a second one of those and a dual 19" stand instead of this. My old PolyView performed flawlessly and had no degradation of signal or brightness over time. Although I like the size of this new monitor, and watching high-def movies from a distance is a better experience on it, I miss the higher pixel density. I could also swear that the color reproduction on this new monitor does not compare. I have already adjusted the monitor using x-tune and it still seems like it's just not quite as nice for doing regular day-to-day computing tasks than my old monitor. It does provide a more immersive gaming experience, but at the price of speed running at a higher res. (1900x1200 vs. 1280x1024) I guess I'd just think about what you want to use it for before committing to buying such a beastly thing for everyday computing tasks.

Pros: I haven't taken the tape out to measure this monitor but it's huge and a joy to look at. Bought this on Black Friday for $260 and free shipping - this was a no brainer.

Cons: I might need to get a bigger desk.

Other Thoughts: I'm 6'2" and like my monitors to sit a little higher so I reversed the monitor stand to pick up a couple of extra inches of height- worked great. Remove the five screws holding the bracket to the monitor. Remove the four screws holding the plastic back plate to the stand, rotoate 180 degrees and reassemble. Monitor is still very stable and a couple inches higher.

Rating + 5 Perfect, Love it ... them

Pros: Like everybody says they are BRIGHT. I have 2 of them & have them both set to 25% brightness, 40% contrast & the color is as good as my Samsung 213t monitors. I'm a photographer & these are great! Both are identical in color & perfect. The cables supplied should work in any situation. The quality is TOP notch! These screens do power down down to sleep mode when your computer is off. The swivel & tilt mounts are great & high quality.

Cons: HUGE .... may take a while to get used to the size.

Other Thoughts: I almost bought just one because I was not sure, but decided to buy both immediately & I am so HAPPY : ))) Not one hot pixel : ) .... again Quality, Quality, Quality : )

Rating + 5 Great Monitor!

Pros: Size, Resolution, X-Tune Calibration Software, Response Time, Beautiful picture once calibrated.

Cons: Speakers are bad(but honestly, if you expect a TN Panel monitor's speakers to blow you away, then I can't help you.)

Other Thoughts: Upgraded from a 22", and I was absolutely speechless once I got this thing on my desk, it seems enormous compared to my old monitor. I also recommend doing what the other reviewers said about the color settings and the X-Tune software, it was well worth doing.

Rating + 5 Size Matters

Pros: THE PURCHASE: A quick click to Newegg and a credit card charge...and a business day later a box shows up

THE UN-BOXING: Several plastic bags containing cables, and a couple pieces of styrofoam later...the beast is spotted.

THE ASSEMBLY: Setting up the base can be completed in about 1 minute by a mentally handicapped earthworm, or (due to the lack of such a worm) about 10 seconds by someone eager to test their new monitor.

THE SETUP: Choose your video cable: It comes with a VGA Cable, D-sub to YPbPr Cable, AND a HDMI to DVI-D Cable! Pick one. Now plug it in, now find your power cord...one end goes into the outlet, the other to the screen!

THE TEST: This is a true test of your mental capacities. While a "newb" might attempt to depress the LED backlit power indicator in the lower right (cleverly disguised as a button), the ACTUAL power button is really on the right center panel, behind the display.

THE RESULT: No dead pixels, and an amazing view.

Cons: By default brightness is set to 100, you probably will want to adjust this; unless of course you enjoy tanning while browsing the internet.

Other Thoughts: Advertising might be a little misleading, but you cant get a better deal for this price.
28" = 27.5"

Never let them tell you that size doesn't matter.
It does matter.
It REALLY matters.

I have not tested the sound quality, as I use a headset, although I'd still buy this screen if it played sounds like nails rolling around in a tin can (which it PROBABLY doesn't) .

The display looks wonderful on 1920 x 1200 resolution, and with HDMI support it should last you a long time.

p.s. I got mine on Black Friday for $260 with free S/H (and i bought 2 which both are perfect so far. keeping my fingers crossed)

Rating + 4 Excellent monitor at 28" for the price

Pros: Excellent monitor for every day use. Big and clear.

Cons: Not able to mount it vertically. The stand only allow the monitor to mount horizontally which is most people will do anyway, but I have 2 of these and I want to mount them vertically so they don't take so much desk space. There is no way to do that unless to buy an aftermarket multi-monitor stand.

Rating + 5 Hanns-G HG-281DPB

Pros: Just got this yesterday and I have to agree it's a steal for the price (I got it on a Black Friday Special). Even at regular price you won't be disappointed. After adjusting settings and installing X-Tune to calibrate as suggested by another reviewer this monitor has a better image than my older 22" widescreen.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Install the driver
Set the brightness to 79, Contrast to 75
Go to Hanns-G website and click on Hannspree tab.
Download the "X-Tune" software. Select the only 28in monitor which is HF289HJB.
Install X-Tune and calibrate the monitor.

Rating + 5 Programmer-Friendly

Pros: -As a web developer, split-screen coding is easier, and I am more productive as a programmer.
-Can hook my Xbox 360 in 1080P HD gaming on breaks, and it is beautiful.
-Speakers are hidden from view making the monitor aesthetically pleasing.
-Friends envy my screen!
-Cheap for a huge monitor.

Cons: -Had to purchase 5 RCA female-female adapters to connect the component and headphone jacks from my Xbox to the monitor.
-Out-of-the-box setting is way to bright, contrast is messed up. Had to run through Nvidia's calibration to get desired settings.
-When switching from VGA (computer) to VGA (Xbox): the left side of the screen flickers, unless I turn the monitor off then on.

Other Thoughts: Good purchase for anyone who wants to work smarter and play harder.

Rating + 1 Warning from veteran purchaser of these monitors.

Pros: The quality of the picture is fantastic. The resolution is unbeatable.

Cons: The quality of the product is another story. I had a couple lengthy phone call with their tech support - to which they stood by their non-warranty non-service policy.

Other Thoughts: So much for them. Looking for replacements now.

Pros: Huge size
16:10 resolution
Can display three Word documents side by side and see them all clearly.

Cons: No height adjustment
Can be very bright out of the box.

Other Thoughts: The lack of DVI is not that big of deal considering they do ship a HDMI to DVI cable in the box. Overall, I spent months looking at this. So glad I bought it. It's the best monitor for the money.

Pros: Absolutely fantastic monitor, gorgeous picture, reasonably priced.

Cons: None that I know of.

Other Thoughts: This is the third Hanns-G monitor my husband & I have purchased from Newegg. The first is 19", the second is 22" and now this one is 28". None of them have ever had so much as one dead pixel, much less any other problems. We use all three of them every day.

Rating + 5 Great Monitor, Big as hell!

Pros: Realllllly big, and it looks nice. Comes with a bunch of useful adapters / wires, which is always nice for this project and future projects!

Cons: I don't like how the bottom stand is a screw on, I can see it being a pain for a single person to put on, though, it might have been easier if I turned the monitor upside down. Either way, with a 2nd person it was easy to get on.

Rating + 5 So Good I Want Two of Them

Pros: I'm using this mostly for gaming. It's a HUGE monitor, and I mean that in the best possible way. No dead pixels and the color was almost spot on right out of the box. I thought it might be too big but for gaming it really puts you right in the action. It's very bright, I have it dialed way down. You'll never have a problem seeing the display even in a bright room.

Cons: I only bought one.

Other Thoughts: Limited connections, but with HDMI it wasn't an issue for me.

Pros: Great size, price and picture while it works

Cons: not reliable for long term

Other Thoughts: I purchased this monitor almost 2 years ago. The first one lasted 6 months, got it replaced via RMA, then got a second one. That one died 4 months later with the same problem. At $60 per ship back for repair, buy a better monitor and save the headache

Rating + 2 Ok for about 15 Months

Pros: It's Big.
Price was not bad when I purchased it.
Brightness and color balance were ok right out of the box.

Cons: Only lasted about 15 months before the HDMI port started to go. Monitor would just go black even though there was still power going to it.Only fix was to turn it off and back on, but it would go black again after a couple minutes.I was able to continue to use it connected to the D-Sub port for a couple months before that also died.At the time I paid about $600 for this thing and for that amount I would expect it to last longer than 15 months.

Came with a couple of bright blue (stuck) pixels. One being in the middle and little to the right on the screen. The other was all the way at the top so it wasn't too bad.

Viewing angle for this monitor is pretty much straight ahead. If you try to view it at a slight angle to the side, below, or above the image starts to get darker and unviewable.

Blacks are more of a dark gray on this thing

Also be warned this monitor runs very hot.

Newegg states that the manufacturer warranty for this is 3 years. That is incorrect, the warranty is o

Other Thoughts: I bought this monitor because of the decent price for one of its size at the time. It also had mostly good reviews.

Problem is that most of those reviews were from people who only owned the Monitor for a very short period of time. After some research I found out that the QC issues that plagued my unit were not that uncommon. So be warned to take those reviews from people who haven't owned the monitor for very long with a grain of salt.

Also be aware that , like I stated in the cons, the warranty from HannsSpree is only 1 year not 3. So I was out of luck when mine went bad in 15 months. I tried to contact HannsSpree support again through email to find out how much it would cost to get the thing fixed, but they never responded. It's probably for the best because the shipping cost both ways plus the repair costs would probably not have been worth it.

I have since purchased a replacement from a more reputable manufacturer that provides a real 3 year warranty.

Pros: Got it on sale for $259! Display is huge! Frame is very conservative looking.

Cons: Lack of inputs, no USB hub, vertical viewing angle could be improved.

Other Thoughts: I ordered two of these babies on Black Friday, and it is now the following Monday (thanks to NewEgg for the free and fast shipping!) and I've tuned the brightness/contrast to a preferrable level and enjoying these for all they're worth!

Rating + 2 You get what you pay for

Pros: Low price. Minimal Ghosting. HDMI port.

Cons: I bought this monitor 2 years ago and have recently been encountering a strange bunch of green and blue vertical lines that appear when the monitor is cold. Once it warms up, they go away. Typically there is just 1 - 1 blue pixel line that apprears, but sometimes as many as 4.
When I first received the monitor, I noticed the back-light bleed through that everybody talks about.
It is particularilly noticable when something dark is displyed on the screen or the lights are turned off in the room.
There was also 1 stuck pixel that I was never able to un-stick.

Other Thoughts: If you want a cheap monitor that lasts for maybe 2 years - this is your monitor.
If you are expecting to get good support (I waited for 1/2 hr to talk to somebody) and was told it would cost me $190.00 to replace the panel (shipping not included) - then this is your monitor.
Save yourself the hastle and buy something a bit better.
Right now the only thing I can use this monitor for is a boat anchor.

Pros: This monitor is one of the best investments ive made for my gaming system. The images are crisp and the refresh rate is unbeatable for this size monitor. Definately satisfied with this product.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I had to move the monitor to the back of my desk, and move my seat back a little bit to be able to handle the sheer size of this thing. No more squinting at a 20 inch LCD for me.

Rating + 3 Good as a monitor, Okay for Gaming, Not Good for Movies

Pros: Got this monitor for 275 after all discounts, no dead pixels, works great as monitor, works okay while gaming, connected it to ps3 & played nfs shift, dirt2 etc. no bleeding, newegg delivery is as always terrific, got it in under 3 days

Cons: Not at all good for movies, too much of blurring, very easily noticeable, you should not get this one if you are really into movies & if you can spend another 300-400 bucks, speakers as everyone mentioned are not great,

Other Thoughts: Newegg rocks as always, I'm gonna get a new tv for sure for gaming n movies and use this as dedicated monitor, cant beat the price in its size range

Rating + 2 Ok for about 15 Months

Pros: It's big.

Price was decent for a monitor of this size when I bought it over 2 years ago.

Bright with decent color balance out of the box.

Cons: Only lasted about 15 months before the HDMI port started to go. The monitor would just go black even though there was still power going to it.

I was able to use the monitor connected to the D-Sub port for a couple of months before that also died.

Another issue right out of the box was two bright blue (stuck) pixels, which I tried to get rid of using different methods, but was unsuccessful. One was at the top of the screen which was not that big a deal. The other one was in the middle/right of the screen.Still they were not that big of an issue, and were only really noticeable on white and black/dark backgrounds.

Viewing angle for this monitor is basically straight ahead. If you try to view it at a slight angle to the side or even slightly below the image becomes noticeably darker and almost unviewable.

One other issue with this monitor is that it runs very hot.

Other Thoughts: For a $600 purchase ,which was the price when I bought this monitor, I would expect it to last more than 18 months.Funny is that it started to go only about 3 months after the 1 year warranty expired.I tried to contact HannsG a few times , through email, trying to find out how much it would cost to get the Monitor repaired but never received any response.Guess it was probably for the best because the cost of shipping both ways plus repair would probably not have been worth it.

Also one reason I purchased this Monitor at the time was because of all the Great reviews here by people who had only owned the monitor for a short time. Doing some more research I found out the problem and QC issues that I had with this unit are not that uncommon despite all these great reviews. So buyer beware, that things aren't all that rosey and you only get a 1 year warranty.

To replace it , I bought a Monitor from another more reputable manufacturer who provides a 3 year warranty up front.
