Rating + 5 EXCELLENT MOUSE

Pros: Smooth tracking, nice overall appearance, on-the-fly-sensitivity-switch

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I get instant headshots in FPS games :)

Rating + 5 Solid Mouse

Pros: This mouse is one of the better mice I have used for gaming. The on the fly sensitivity is very nice. The extra buttons allow for alot of nice keybinding and macros on demand.

Cons: I have had issues with the mouse wheel on both my mx500 and mx518 going out after extended use. My mx500's mouse wheel lasted about 4 years and my 518 went out last night after about 3 years of use.

Other Thoughts: Logitech makes very good mice. I have decided to go with the G500 now to replace my mx series.

Rating + 5 My Perfect Gaming Mouse

Pros: Everything that has been advertised. The mouse fits perfectly on my right hand. I can also reach the top left side button and not feel awkward. Perfect mouse for battlefield bad company 2 and other intense FPS games. The mouse is perfect in size. Does not feel bulky.

Cons: I can't find any. It works for me.

Other Thoughts: I went straight to logitech.com to download the software. I didn't bother using the CD that came with the mouse. Get this mouse if you want to improve in FPS accuracy. I noticed a significant difference in game play.

Rating + 5 Extreme Quality

Pros: I've had my mouse for a couple years now, and finally this weekend the wheel started to give out. It still clicked fine with each small rotation, but it no longer responded. Because this device actually uses an optical sensor for the scroll wheel, I simply took it apart, cleaned out all the dust/lint and slapped it back together. Ready for another couple years of abuse.

Cons: The mouse itself, mechanically, will out last the finish/finishing by a very long time. So its still awesome, but doesn't look so hot after thousands of hours and tens of thousands of clicks.

Other Thoughts: Your search ends here, trust me.

Rating + 5 Great mouse

Pros: Great little mouse that's comfortable for one's hand.
It does everything I need it to do. Just hide it from your wife. Mine tried it and liked it I had to give up my and order a second one for me. She works, I play.

Cons: Had to buy a replacement for me, after my wife took mine.

Rating + 4 Works as Intended

Pros: Works as intended, only con is I expected it to be a bit more responsive. The software doesn't work in any games for on the fly changing of the sensitivity. Perhaps I need drivers.

Cons: The software doesn't work in any games for on the fly changing of the sensitivity. Perhaps I need drivers.

Rating + 4 Great affordable mouse

Pros: Price is just right, mouse is comfortable and easy to use, tracks well, buttons are comfortable for my larger hands.

Cons: Not a big fan of the coloring. The random dark silver splotches aren't as aesthetic as some of flat the Razer mice out there that are flat black with LED's.

Other Thoughts: The software allows you to remap virtually all the buttons as desired, so I decided to set the thumb buttons (those on the left side) as a maximize and minimize option, which I immediately fell in love with. However, there is no option to change this when going in game, meaning you either map those buttons to useless keyboard keys, or a useful professional function. I keep switching back and forth and it just seems like an oversight when you're going back and forth between the two.

Rating + 5 Best Wired Right Handed Mouse Ever

Pros: Mouse just feels right in the hand. The two buttons on the side are perfect for web surfing and gaming and are perfectly placed. Adjustable sensitivity is very useful. Works on every flat surface I've used it on.

Cons: Right Handers only, easy to get dirty.

Other Thoughts: I got this mouse a few years back. The second I used it, I loved it. It fit perfectly in my hand and the two buttons on the side were very nice additions compared to the mediocre mice I had before.

Sometime last year, the cable started to go bad on me thanks to me putting too much stress on the cable so I felt I needed to get a new one. Got the Logitech G9, which was supposed to be better, but it wasn't. I actually had to use a mouse pad with it because it wouldn't work on my carpet like the MX518 did.

The MX518 has a special place in my heart, and I'm glad to see that there are many other satisfied customers. I'm assuming the popularity of this mouse is the reason it's still available.
While I'll probably get a different mouse when I get a new PC, I'll probably get another one of these in the near future so I can have it just in case my current one dies on me.

If you are having a difficult time deciding on which mouse to get, get this one. You can't go wrong. :)

Rating + 5 I really dig this mouse!

Pros: This is one of the smoothest mice (mouses?) I have ever used! Size is nice, contour is really comfortable and there are plenty of buttons to program for games and what-not.
Has a nice, long cord to ensure that regardless of your computer's location, it will reach where you need it to be.
The sensitivity adjustment is pretty cool. The fastest setting almost seems too fast, and the slower setting is great for sniping in first-person shooters (the trick is learning to adjust the speed in the middle of combat... I'm not too quick when under pressure... still need practice) :P

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: -My new setup-

Rating + 5 Had it for three years now, it rocks

Pros: It has lasted a long time. It's really accurate.

Cons: The feet do wear out after a while. But mouse pads fixed that problem.

Also, don't use the drivers that come with it. They buggy, and have a bad reputation. The normal windows drivers work fine with it.

Other Thoughts: This is the only computer gear I've seen that's gone UP in price after a couple of years. When Laser mice first came out, it was thought that they would make optical mice like this obsolete, and prices were slashed. I got my Mx518 for thirty bucks at Target at that time.

But the Mx518 has held it's value, and in objective tests like those done by esreality.com, it beat newer laser gaming mice. Years later, there's no way you're going to buy an Mx518 for the price I got mine.

Rating + 5 Best ever

Pros: Simply the best mouse ever. Positive and reliable. I have 4 of these and am not a gamer. I find the adjustable speed indispensable for Photoshop work. There is never a lag in response, as with wireless mice. It is comfortable to hold (for hours) and there are also many tracking, acceleration, button, etc. adjustments to tailor this unit for your comfort. My normal settings are quite fast, and with finely tuned acceleration navigating a 26" monitor is a breeze.

Cons: None

Pros: The best mouse I've ever used. Period.
Looks good, feels comfortable/non-existent when using, just the right weight.

Cons: Red light instead of blue.
Only problem I've had is once when my computer returned from sleep, it wouldn't recognize the mouse so I had to unplug/replug it in.

Other Thoughts: Logitech delivers a solid product yet again.

Rating + 5 Second one...

Pros: Best mouse I've ever owned.

There is no substitute. Unfortunately too many years of greasy hands was its downfall. The "up sensitivity" button finally failed after ~5 years of use. Ordering another one next-day, because all my replacement mice are greatly inferior.

Cons: Do *not* try and repair this mouse yourself (if you already have one). Upon opening, springs will go everywhere. It's like trying to change a pair of Drum Brakes.

Other Thoughts: I hope Logitech never stops producing this mouse; it is by far the best one I've ever used. And I've used quite a few over the past 10 years.

Rating + 1 fair mouse, limited software, extremely disappointing!

Pros: 1...light weight. Compared to Microsoft 3000 mouse, it's lighter, thus less straining on my 41 year old hand.
2...mouse body is fatter, thus fits my manly hands more appropriate.

Cons: Horribly lacking in customization options. NOT ALL buttons can be changed. The "speed up/slow down" of the rectacle motions, such as when looking down a sniper rifle, are not customizable. The buttons are fixed, and in a ridiculously uncomfortable places. One button is north of the wheel buttom -- awkward and painful to reach, and the other south bound -- just plain uncomfortable to reach, even with my middle finger. Logitech should've taken lessons from Microsoft >>> precision boost. In other words, toggle the ability to speed up/slow down the mouse motions with a single button on ANY KEY. Clearly they don't take gaming seriously, just making money quickly.
Another con >>> rubber parts. I'm allergic to rubber, yet I manage to get around this inevitable irritation by placing tape around the parts my fingers touch, except the wheel button which doesn't seem to bother me. Still, would it hurt to create option? Guess not. Logitech is still working on "customization options."

Other Thoughts: This mouse is garbage!!! It's no better than a standard Microsoft optical mouse. Logitech is full of amateurs who don't know true gaming. And the people who rated it excellent, don't know true gaming either. A true gamer understands that every game he plays ought to be able to ride like a bicycle or car whose seat and steering wheel, for example, can be adjusted to his liking and comfort. Logitech has offered limited abilities in this department -- a HORRIBLE limitation to a gamer such as myself. Take it from me -- stay away from Logitech. I'm going back to Microsoft whom has proved to be WAY ahead of the game. Perhaps their mice won't be as comfortable, but Logitech has proved that it really doesn't know gaming as I do.

Rating + 4 Intro gaming mouse

Pros: It's a decent mouse for the price. Tracks well, nice feel, no button problems at all, and the sensitivity adjustment works very well. I have no complaints at all for non-gaming activities.

Cons: The scroll wheel feels like it belongs on a cheaper mouse. The clicks aren't very crisp. The really annoying thing is the tendency of this mouse to not respond occasionally to a single click scroll. It seems to not "settle in" and make contact. Very bad in L4D2 when you need to switch to your melee weapon in a hurry. The problem seems to be improving as the wheel breaks in, so only one egg deducted. I actually suspect the problem will go away completely.

Other Thoughts: Sometimes the Setpoint software (newest version) doesn't register when I'm in game. Minimizing the game for a second always brings my in game button settings back. (Win 7)

Rating + 5 Best mouse I have ever seen

Pros: I have had this mouse for over 4 years.
Buttons are solid.
Perfect weight and size.
Great feel.

It looks pretty, still.

This mouse has worked perfectly through 3 builds on all windows operating systems since XP, including 64 bit versions.

Cons: It has finally reached the end of its life, died on me today.

R.I.P MX518...

Other Thoughts: I will definitely buy this mouse again and recommend it to anyone looking for a quality mouse. This mouse is not only for playing games, but works great for all other applications.

Worth every penny at any price.

Rating + 5 Great mouse, regardless of grip.

Pros: I was a bit nervous purchasing this mouse as I tended to always grip my mouse with my fingertips. However after not even a day I had adjusted to a more "palmed" grip and couldn't be happier. It is much more comfortable, and this mouse is definitely the smoothest I have ever used.

Cons: Went on sale a week after I bought it :(

Other Thoughts: May seem a bit high for a mouse to some people, but consider you interact with your mouse more than pretty much any other part of your keyboard. Do yourself a favor and don't skimp out on it, this mouse has been worth every penny.

Can be fingertip/claw gripped as well, the arch is not nearly as high as it looks.

Rating + 5 Best gaming mouse for the money

Pros: This mouse isn't the faciest, or the newest design, or the best-looking, but it does the job and does it well. Rugged, long-life micro-switches combined with a comfortable design make for a great gaming mouse. The on-the-fly selectable DPI settings are nice as well.

Cons: The rubberized grips make the mouse easier to hold on to, but add a little difficulty when cleaning it.

Rating + 5 Great gaming mouse

Pros: The device, although perhaps a little bulky, fits perfectly to the hand and allows for ease of access for both web browsing and gaming. The implementation of two buttons that allow for increasing and decreasing the sensitivity makes it excellent for going between 'aiming down the sights' and quick turning in FPS games.

Cons: The only con is the positioning of a button that either alt + tabs or does the cascading window selector screen in Vista or 7. The button is a little cumbersome to get to, right underneath the decrease sensitivity button.

Other Thoughts: For the value this is a great mouse, certainly worth getting for any gaming rig.

Pros: It's light, accurate, comfortable, and nice-looking. The thumb buttons are convenient for web browsing.

Cons: I play some games, but the DPI adjusting buttons are not very useful and get pressed accidentally a lot even by my nimble fingers.

Rating + 5 Logitech MX518

Pros: The best mouse I have ever used. It has a really nice design that is met with an exceptional comfort. The extra buttons and on-the-fly dpi change are definitely a big plus even though I forget to use them sometimes.

Cons: The shiny surface tends to collect a lot of dead skin tissue and gets oily rather quickly if you play games for hours on. But then again, I guess it all depends on how sweaty the palm of your hand gets. Also, not really a con but I couldn't put my laptop on standby after I installed the Logitech software. I'll probably resolve this issue when I have more time on my hands.

Other Thoughts: You don't need to be a hardcore gamer to appreciate how comfortable this mouse really is. I'd recommend this mouse to anyone for any use. Btw, I forgot to mention that you can probably use all its buttons without installing the software. However, you probably won't be able to memorize settings without it. Can't wait to try this on my gaming desktop system back home for spring break.

Rating + 5 Best mouse you can get your hands on

Pros: Have had this mouse for over 5 years. First mouse ever bought, and only one I will use. Love the speed setting on the fly, my hand (which is pretty big), fits comfortably on this mouse. Driver software is easy to use and very user friendly. I use this mouse and a steelseries mousepad = ultimate smoother surface. Slides uncomfortably well. There is nothing I hate about this mouse. I bought it when it was 50, the current price is a real bargain. Get this mouse!

Cons: Nothing, this mouse is great.

Pros: Everything about this mouse is perfect. The mouse feels like an extension of your hand and the buttons are all conveniently located for easy access. I have had this mouse for at LEAST 3 years and it has never given me any problems. I have used this mouse for general use, gaming, and even drawing and its absolutely awesome. The quick switching between sensitivities via the buttons on the mouse is really convenient especially for drawing.

Pros: Didn't think I would use the on the fly dpi but comes in handy as you advance in games and action is speeding up. Fit hand nicely, it's a good size but I like the feel of it. To give you and idea my had is about a medium in gloves. LOVE THE DESIGN, glides nicely, clicks have a sturdy solid feel to them one reviewer described the scroll wheel as a sand filled feel as you scroll LoL true not an issue though.

Cons: NONE!

Rating + 3 Great mouse but...

Pros: Great tracking
Great feel
Lots of fun buttons
Good DPI program (mouseware)

Cons: None, EXCEPT the horribly annoying HISSING electronic sound it makes, I absolutely cannot tolerate that for more than 10 minutes. All newer logitech mice do it apparently, and i have sensitive ears, so take that for what it's worth.

Other Thoughts: If you can't hear the sound or it doesn't bother you, this is probably the best mouse in the world for gaming.

Pros: lots of buttons for whatever you may need them for; ergonomic especially for gorilla-handed people like myself; excellent response on just about any surface.

Cons: none, now that the price has dropped from when i bought it.

Other Thoughts: I bought this mouse about 4-5 years ago - originally purchased simply because i was frustrated with wireless mice at the time. It's served me extremely well, but today static electricity killed it. I plan on purchasing another one to replace it, as it really is the best mouse I've ever owned.

Rating + 3 'Stealth' changes

Pros: This is my 3rd MX518. This mouse is my favorite mouse ever, except for its weakness - feet that wear out much too easily. There has apparently been an unannounced, "stealth" upgrade to this mouse as it now has the larger, harder pads on the feet similar to the G9. This is a great thing and would thrill me to death if it weren't for one other change with the mouse....

Cons: As I said, the MX518 was my perfect mouse in feel, responsiveness, and comfort. There is one other change with this tweaked version, and that's the mouse wheel. It was absolutely perfect before, crisp feedback with firm detents. Now it feels fuzzy, takes more effort to move the mouse from detent to detent. The detents themselves aren't any more resistive, but it's almost like something is rubbing on the side of the scroll wheel making the movement within each detent unnecessarily firm.

Other Thoughts: Love the feet, but the feel of the scroll wheel may kill it for me. I'll stick with it a day and see if it breaks in and starts to feel more natural.

Rating + 5 Unparalleled comfort and quality

Pros: The Logitech MX518 is my go-to mouse for precision and gaming, and despite having bought several "upgrades" over the years, they always get relegated to work or laptop use because they don't compare to this. Not only is this the best mouse I've ever used, but it may be the best mouse I'll ever use. Logitech seems to agree, as they haven't had a serious upgrade to the mouse design in around eight years.

The basic mouse clicking and wheel is extremely well done and highly resilient. The silicon pads are a vast improvement to the feet of the past which always fell off and degraded performance. The right-hand grip is very comfortable and the button placement approaches perfection, akin to the Dual Shock. Accuracy is high, and very resistant to dust-buildup compared to the higher frequency "Laser" mice.

Cons: Dead skin and grease builds up remarkably quickly on this mouse, I preferred the granular finish of the MX510 where the mouse crud wasn't quite so quickly noticeable. All the usual problem of cords are present, and we've reached a time where cordless mouse are simply superior.

To be honest, I almost never use the sensitivity controls. I run on a pretty high sensitivity natively and have excellent control, and I've been a convert to giant gaming mouse pads for years, so most of the issues raised that might possibly require a sensitivity change are moot compared to the advantage of your brain intimately linking mouse cursor movement and hand movement.

Logitech's software bundle gets closer to bloatware with every iteration.

Rating + 5 Truly a Gaming Mouse

Pros: Sensitivity adjustment actually works. Fits my medium-large hand very well. Responsive with no noticeably lag.

Cons: The Logitech software allows you to set an audio cue for changing sensitivity - something I do regularly - but it is generally too quiet to hear when I really need to be certain it was changed i.e. playing CS or WoW. Audio cue is the same for all sensitivity levels, it would be nice if I could tell which level I was at by the audio cue alone.

Other Thoughts: Minor gripes aside, a mouse I intend to use for a long time yet.

Rating + 5 Defn my favorite mouse :)

Pros: I have been using this mouse for my gaming computer for almost four years now. I have never had any problems with it and am considering buying a second one for when this one eventually breaks (in a few years, from the look of my current one). I love the on-the-fly sensitivity adjustment, I use it all the time. I also love that there're both forward and back buttons on the left side--just having one or the other always annoyed me about mice.

The mouse itself feels very smooth under your hand and my hand fits it very well. Now, this is particularly amazing to me because I have tiny hands--from wasd position on my G110 keyboard, i have to move my wrist to reach the left-hand G keys. Yet, no matter how I hold this mouse, clicking is responsive, comfortable, and quiet.

Cons: Isn't self-cleaning.

Other Thoughts: I have never found another mouse that I have liked this much--the laser wireless mouse I have by logitech isn't as nice as this one (it is more sensitive, but then I never turn this mouse all the way up on sensitivity). I will definitely be using this mouse for a -long- time. I don't remember how much I spent on this mouse four years ago, I believe it was around 75, and it was definitely worth every penny.

Rating + 5 Simply amazing

Pros: Fits my hand like a glove, The paint on mine never wore out. I've gotten everything from arctic silver, paint thinner, melted wax, and even solder on it. Everything but the solder cleans right up. Bought the first one with an XTRAC Pro mouspad, it helped me increase my kill/death ratio on UT2004/UT3 to about twice what my wireless mouse was. Funny how something as simple as a good mouse and pad can improve your game so much. :F

Cons: For what it is? Nuthin. I could be nitpicky and say the finish is semi-ugly, would have preferred just plain 'ol Black or Silver. Would have jumped at fake brushed aluminum (to match both the computers that have em)

Other Thoughts: I own two of these. One for the desktop, one for the laptop. I may buy a few more in case either of them die in the future.

Pros: I paid $50 for this mouse well over a year ago and have never regretted it one bit. This mouse is virtually indestructible. Over a year of heavy gaming and software development this thing continues to just work like the day I bought it.

Cons: Nothing.

Other Thoughts: Best mouse I've ever owned by a long shot.

Rating + 2 Limited Use Mouse

Pros: Tracks accurately via USB with drivers installed

Cons: Won't work properly with PS/2 or USB KVMs. With a PS/2 KVM, only the movement and right mouse buttons work, with USB, it can theoretically work, but it is unusable in practice as it takes a great deal of time for the switch to occur and the mouse be recognized. Works best with USB KVM WITHOUT setpoint installed. Have hardly used it and all the paint has worn off.
Setpoint...
Overpriced.

Other Thoughts: Every time I change my setup, I pull this mouse out, but every time, it ends up back on the shelf.

Pros: I have had this mouse for 5 years with out no problems untill now. When I move the mouse to fast or game it likes to disconnet itself. I had a feeling it was due sooner or later. I slamed, droped, spilled, abused this mouse longer then any other mouse would have lasted. Never had a more reliable or perfect fitting mouse. I recommend it to anyone!

Rating + 5 Amazing Mouse

Pros: I have had this mouse for 4 years and then some and it is still going strong. This is with me moving it rather roughly between my home and college during my entire time there. I will be the first to admit that I have not been very careful but it has been quite sturdy.

1. Very durable
2. Very responsive to movement and to button presses
3. On-the-fly sensitivity changing is really useful for FPS gaming, especially when switching between a sniper rifle and smg.
4. The side buttons have been so useful that I have gotten conditioned to pressing them while surfing the web.

Not to over hype it but I am honestly sad it doesn't break down, I would like a new mouse to change things up but cannot justify its purpose while this is still alive. And I doubt I will ever be able to unless I purposely try to destroy this mouse.

Cons: There is not anything functionally wrong with it. The only things I can come up with are very superficial.

1. dirt clumps get on it very easily but it is very easy to clean of by just rubbing it off.
2. not a real fan of the fake "texture". Would have preferred a straight black. Makes me paranoid that if there are actual bumps I wont see them.
3. Cost when I got it. It was 50 dollars when I got it, it was at the higher end of what I would have liked to pay, but I should add I consider every penny well spent. Now that it is 32 dollars it is an even better deal.

Other Thoughts: There are other mice that are more recently released and at higher DPI but honestly at the 1800 + range there is not that much difference unless you need it for a very specialized job(in which case you already have the proper equipment). This is an older mouse but still the best when it comes to price/quality.

Pros: Great sensitivity. Works off of non-powered keyboard usb ports. Very comfortable. The best feature though are the side buttons. I love using them on web pages to move forward and backward. I even find myself grabbing for them when I'm using the computer at work, but then I'm sad when I remember we only have stock ball mice from dell :(

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Every guest that come to my apartment wants to poke the mouse because the design makes it look bumpy. Weird I know.

Rating + 1 More than 25% of MX518 mice are defective

Pros: Comfortable, good plastic quality, no problems with buttons and wheel.

Cons: I have bought four MX518 mice. After one year of use the glossy covering of one mouse has completely wared out. The other two died after 2 years (Mouse lose usb connection every 1-2 minutes or computer can't recognize it).

Other Thoughts: The probability that a MX518 mouse is defective is 75%+-50%(stat).

Rating + 5 Great mouse. Software sucks.

Pros: The on-the-fly resolution switching is great. I hate playing shooters without this mouse now. It's big enough to be comfortable for anyone, but light enough that I can use a claw grip and shoot effectively.

Cons: The SetPoint software that lets you customize buttons is not as flexible as I would have liked.

Other Thoughts: I bought this mainly for the feel, price, and sensitivity. I'm about to buy another one for a HTPC. You won't regret this mouse.

Rating + 5 Great wired gaming mouse

Pros: Ability to change DPI on the fly is a pretty nifty feature.

The feel of the mouse is very comfortable, and it just looks cool. Worked right out of the box. Don't need to replace any batteries!

Cons: The click wheel was odd feeling at first. I previously used a wireless mouse from Logitech and the click wheel was smoother. I don't like the hard click nor the non-existent click. This one almost feels like there is grains of sand in there when I roll it. It's a personal taste I'm sure but the wheel could have been smoother. Otherwise, I haven't noticed any thing negative about it. Glides smoothly, easy to click, and perfect sensativity.

Other Thoughts: I'm not a hardcore gamer but when I do game I wanted a solid mouse that would perform, this has done that and much more. The only thing I need to get use to now is using a wired mouse, it has been YEARS since I have had one for home. You don't realize how much that cord gets in the way, but I'd take that over a wireless any day of the week. Give it a few years, my opinion may change.

Rating + 4 Great Mouse, Great Customer Service!

Pros: One of the best mouse out there.

The pads on the bottom provides smooth gliding.

Easily change ajustable DPI whenever you want.

Very Comfortable.

Oh my, I love the Customer Service. (read below in CONS)

PLENTY of DPI, Although alot of people say 1800 is not alot compared to the more expensive mouses, some which have 5000+, but beleive me, thats more than enough, I play the competitive game known as Counter-Strike, and I find 800dpi plentiful.

Cons: Navigating button gets annoying, It minimizes your game if you accidently hit it.

Gets EXTREMELY oily, it loves collecting your dead skin cells. I find my self having to wash my hand and wipe the mouse constantly just so it doesn't get too greasy.

The mouse was build so three of your fingers would be on top, most people, like I, put two fingers on top, there is a little buldge on the side which can be annoying.

The mouses material is also on the downside, After about 6 months of use, it starts developing a annoying crackly sound when you click and the grip starts tearing off. BUT, logitechs customer support is amazing, they offer to replace it for free, and I was lucky, I get to keep the old mouse, and the new one free of charge.

Other Thoughts: I would have given it a 3 egg, but the customer service was amazing, i can't say this enough, so i gave it 4 eggs.

Pros: Amazing mouse (for the price, and just overall).
5 different sensitivities changeable on the fly, and it it wonderfully ergonomic.

Cons: The bottom can get scratched up over time, but that is to be expected I suppose.

The window switch button can annoyingly get in the way while gaming, but luckily you can disable it.

Other Thoughts: It was banged around in my bag and the "Sensitivity down" button shifted and was crooked. I had to push own extra hard to get it to work, but one day it just popped back in to place. Wonderful quality!

Cons: The grip begins to come off over time but I guess thats true for most mice.

Other Thoughts: Its just a simpler version of the G5/G500.

Pros: Quick switch between DPI. Plenty of buttons that are programmable. Has a decent weight to it, but a fast response. Put it in your hand, and you actually feel better about being you... and holding this mouse. The sensor can handle an acceleration up to 15Gs and can sequencially capture and analyze via onboard DSP's at over 6400FPS.

Cons: Its not currently in stock.

Other Thoughts: I bought this mouse in 2005 to reverse engineer the interface on the agilent ADNS3080 (I was using this optical sensor for a different project). Well... it turned out to be the best mouse I ever bought and am still using it to this day to type this review.

Pros: 1800 dpi, 8 buttons, wheel doesn't "side-click" like alot of logistic ones do. Feels great in the hand. Really cool graphic on the top, makes it look dented.

Cons: Red Optical, not Clear Optical or laser. 1800 dpi is quite a bit but many gaming mice these days with lasers go much higher. When i first got it the friction lessening pads were not level with each other, but you can't tell on a mouse pad and they are worn down to match each other after a few months.

Other Thoughts: Buy it

Pros: Very satisfied with this mouse, it is great for gaming. This was my first high-end mouse that I bought specifically for gaming after using low-end $10 mice. It was cheapest high-end mouse I could find, and I don't regret buying it. The DPI settings are very nice as well, however, I haven't gotten used to the high setting yet, and just leave it on medium.

Cons: After some use, you get some residue on the mouse surface that you can clean off easily. I need to do this every few days, but it doesn't bother me much. Maybe I just need to wash my hands more.

Pros: Sensitivity adjustment on the fly is sweet
Looks cool
Cable is nice and long
Makes me better at FPSs than my old track ball

Cons: Scroll wheel isn't very smooth out of the box, once you get some hand-grease down in there it gets better.
One of the buttons doesn't do anything without running Logitech software in the background.
Back and forward buttons are too far out of the way to be used comfortably, even by my enormous thumbs.
The whole mouse is a little smallish for my liking.

Other Thoughts: Unless Logitech was planning on its users having constant death grips on their mice, the back and forward buttons would be way more useful if set in the middle of the thumb depression.

Rating + 5 Outstanding!

Pros: Absolutely best wired mouse I've ever had. Very responsive, smooth, and works well on all surfaces. Sharp appearance as well.

Cons: I put up with the wireless interference on my VX Nano for way too long! Even though the cord is certainly of standard length, the way I've got my desk set-up, it's about 6" too short for my liking. Finally, I prefer the VX nano's scroll wheel to this one, but for not having to endure wireless interference any longer, it's well worth it.

Other Thoughts: I was using a Logitech VX nano (absolutely stellar mouse... I just had interference problems at home that may have been my iPhone or something else). The last time I gamed was F-22 Lightning III (~1999) -- I pretty much do photoshopping and what would be considered office work. But regardless, I love the feel of the mouse on every account.

Pros: 2 side buttons are invaluable for gaming.

On the fly sensitivity is excellent

The software that comes with it is completely customizable.

1800DPI makes this a very accurate mouse, great for FPSs and RPGs alike

The ergonomics of this mouse are excellen

Cons: Not much, but if you keep the side buttons set to default in your browser you might accidentally bump them and go forward/backward on pages.

The price doesn't seem to fluctuate lower than $40.

Other Thoughts: I bought this mouse in May of '07, used it for over 2 and a half years before it started getting 'USB not recognized' issues. Having grown so accustomed to this mouse I had to have another one so I ordered another one right away, I figured it was out of warranty. Later having heard about Logitech's wonderful support I contacted them, told them my mouse was dead and attached a copy and a screenshot of my invoice (thankfully, newegg saves all your invoices forever). After about 3 e-mails back and forth with customer service and 5 days later I had a brand new mouse, as a backup I guess when the one I already bought dies. If you want a mouse that will last with an ironclad, no fuss, 3-year warranty, this is the mouse to get

Pros: Lives up to its billing. If you're looking for a quality mouse to fit a midsized budget, this is the one for you. It's been the best mouse i've ever owned straight out of the box, with near-daily use and several marathon sessions. MMOs, FPS, RTS, it does it all, and begs for more. No hand cramping, the finish lasts and lasts, and the "dented aluminum" finish is always a conversation piece. another quality project from Logitech!

Cons: My hands do tend to sweat after an hour or so, and the smooth surface of the mouse tends to make it a little slick. still, a good "break time" indicator.

Other Thoughts: As I said in the Pro's section, if you need a high-end mouse on a mid-to-low budget, look no further.

I am partial to Logitech mice as they fit my hand better than other brands. I love all of the buttons, the sensitivity that can be changed on the fly, whether I am taking over the world or updating my Visio drawings. This is the best mouse I have ever used. And this mouse looks awesome.

Rating + 5 The Best Mouse I've Ever Owned.

Pros: -Responsive and good, solid feel.

-Enough buttons for gaming.

-Durable through intense gaming abuse.

-On-the-fly sensitivity changing, works fine with or without software (Software is good, though).

-Used for personal builds and other builds, and have never had a bad mouse yet.

-Generous cord length (As annoying as wires could be, I'll take a dependable wired mouse over a wireless any day. Always.)

-Comfortable hand fit.

-1800 dpi is more than enough. If you think you need more, then odds are you have no idea why you think you do.

-No foo-foo gimmick lighting that is unnecessary to having a solid design mouse that works.

-Outstanding construction that, even slammed on a mousepad or even dropped on the floor, after being put back on the mousepad, it kept rocking like nothing happened.

Cons: The 'Logitech' logo and decals on the side buttons WILL eventually begin to fade after continual usage.

Not immediately, and your mileage may vary based on how often you use it, but it will happen. A minor annoyance, at worst.

The feet, while wonderfully put on, will degrade over time and need to be replaced. No mouse is really immune to this, though.

Again, the length of time depends on your actual usage, and the feet do last for a long, long time.

Other Thoughts: After three years of intense usage of mostly hard gaming, it's time to replace due to sensor starting to off and on die out and the feet worn down to base.
Again, this is after an abnormally long amount of wear and tear after 3+ years. For this price, and even for a higher price, you won't find a better mouse.
I have absolutely no reason to try another gaming mouse to 'hope' it works better than the MX518 that has already proven itself to me many, many times over.

I hope they never phase out the MX518.

Rating + 5 Great for fast paced FPS games

Pros: A LOT !

-Lasted for almost 2 years now
-setpoint software is easy to use
-If you can't use setpoint you can change DPI on the fly
-Great ergonomic feel - can play for hours on end
-Very responsive
-works well with every mousepad i've used
- easy to set up
- Can definitely tell my accuracy and precision has improved with this mouse. No more jerking around, this mouse produces fluid movements.

Cons: .. Nothing. This is the most famous gaming mouse there is, and for good reason too.

Other Thoughts: Real competitive gamers know that high DPI is a bunch of bologna. You only need 800 DPI max.

If you are thinking of getting a different mouse because this only allows 1800 DPI you are insane.
The best gamers in the world use extremely low DPI

Stermy and fatal1ty both use 400, A lot of pro quakers/counter strikers all use 400.

For me, I play unreal tournament 2004 and Quake Live.
When I play UT2004 I press the + button on my mouse and put it up to 800 DPI and when I play Quake Live i press - and push it back down to 400 so my movements are more steady when I am aiming with the lightning gun.

Higher DPI does not mean you'll have better aim, in most cases it makes your aim worse since it is more sensitive and the smallest movements of your mouse move the cursor resulting in a missed frag.

DO NOT LET 1800 DPI BE A CON.

Pros: I moved to this mouse from the Microsoft Intellimouse Optical, and prefer the larger size of this mouse in my hand. The pads slide around the table well and don't look like they'll get worn out like the Microsoft one did.

Cons: Compared to the Microsoft mouse, the buttons are fairly 'clicky' in a slightly annoying high-pitched way. I also don't like the settings - I've tried a bunch of settings but I'm missing my icons routinely - hopefully I'll get used to it.

Rating + 5 Great Mouse

Pros: -ergonomically comfortable on hand
-lots of button (too much in my opinion, I don't game)
-looks cool
-very responsive
-25 million clicks this should last a very long time

Cons: -Cost, wasn't free
-the setpoint software ( I don't game so no point in having programmable buttons)
-The back and forward button is sorta annoying, sometime I would accidentally hit back by mistake

Other Thoughts: I went through 3 Microsoft intellimouse (el cheapo) before trying this. After using it for several months my hand is used to it. I was going to return it because initially I thought it was too big for my hand.

Rating + 5 Perfect Mouse, Great Price

Pros: Fits hand well. Glides smoothly. Buttons click and release effortlessly. Buttons located in great positions. Not too heavy, not too light. Feet are large, and will not disappear quickly.

Overall one of the best mice I have ever had. Well worth the price!

Cons: Right-handed only, so my lefty girlfriend can't use it... oh wait, that's a PRO!

Other Thoughts: Wish it came in a different pattern.

Rating + 5 What a great mouse

Pros: This is one great mouse.... I have had it for 2 years i play tons of FPS and RTS and this mouse is one of the best i have ever used in my life! The software it comes with works perfect Not a problem on windows xp pro 32/64 bit or windows vista. you can even change the sensitivity buttons.

Cons: The little black simple where it says logitech is chipping off but it is 2 years old No need to take a egg off.... not really a con unless you are all about the looks just thought i would let ya know.

Other Thoughts: If this mouse ever breaks (I don't see that happening any time soon) i will buy not 1 but 2 more of these they are so good.... The MX518 Is the best mouse i have ever used and most likely will use... I have used my friends logitech mouse And i like that one also if you are looking for a mouse or joystick i recommend logitech :)

Rating + 4 Nice Mouse

Pros: * Comfortable to use (for right handers)
* Lots of buttons
* Adjustable resolution is great for gaming

Cons: * The scroll wheel is failing after a little over a year of use. * Mouse is designed for right-handed people.
* No weighting options

Other Thoughts: This is a great mouse. The mouse is really designed for right handers, so lefties may have problems (I'm left handed, but I mouse with my right.) I used to buy M$ mice, but had several fail at the cord connection to the mouse. I am seeing some where at that connection with this mouse, though it is still working strong. This mouse is great for gaming. My main problem is that the scroll wheel refuses to scroll down after a little over a year of hard use. This may be the result of dust buildup within the scroll wheel assembly, which may require me to purchase another if I cannot clean it out. I still recommend this mouse and plan to purchase another if necessary.

Rating + 4 one annoying thing

Pros: it looks great with the bullet hole theme its got going on. especially for me since i love playing shooters so it goes with my gaming theme. its button layout is great but kinda wish they could add one or two more buttons on the other side.

Cons: about 4-5 months after using the mice regularly it has developed a weird and very annoying noise coming out of the left clicker. it sounds like left plastic covering with the graphics became lose or unglued itself (if thats how they manufacture it) from the button inside. it basically sounds like i double clicked when i actually single clicked.

yes, its annoyed me so much that i knocked an egg off the rating. ive been a very loyal logitech customer, everything from this mice, headphones, and wireless keyboard and mice (the wireless one i use from bed :p). i would go in and fix it myself but i would hate to ruin the skates on this brand new mice... just dont think problems like these should come up with less than a year of use.

Other Thoughts: still a loyal logitech customer after this bump on the road.

Rating + 2 No Tilt Wheel Makes it Worthless

Pros: Good size, responsive, solid Logitech programming software. It's a good mouse with a puzzling design failure.

Cons: Anyone who has has used a mouse with a programmable tilt wheel knows that there is just no reason to use one without, especially gaming. It's one of the things that made the G5 perfect, and I have no idea what Logitech was thinking when they failed to include it in the MX518. For 10 or so bucks more, invest in the G500, at least once they realize the mistake of the sandpaper surface and re-release it.
My G5 broke and Logitech has decided to no longer make any mice that are its equal. Hopefully they'll come to their senses.

Rating + 5 Great Buy!

Pros: The on the fly sensitivity switching is mostly why I bought it, and oh man does it work. Now when I'm playing TF2 when I switch my class I can make sure my sensitivity is just right for them.
And the thumb rest is really nice, my hand doesn't feel like its starting to cramp up after being online for too long.

Cons: The only con I have is I use firefox, and the middle click to open a new tab takes forever not sure if it is something I change in the mouse settings.

Other Thoughts: Great mouse, feels amazing, and slides like it is on air.

Rating + 5 best mouse i ever bought

Pros: love everything about this mouse from its comfortable design to it's easy glide very large and very durable footpads... literally put it on the computer desk without a mouse pad for a week trying to wear out the pads and they took it very well and the mouse is very sensitive and works on alot of different surfaces with ease.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: When all my friends have to stop and charge their mouse i keep on going with my wired mouse... I hate charging batteries :)

Rating + 5 My favorite mouse of all time...

Pros: I purchased one of the original ones like 4 years ago with the 5 small feet. Great mouse, great for gaming. Hardly ever used the on the fly DPI change, but loved that it was there.

Just noticed it was looking old, still works fine, figured it was time for a enwer mouse. Saw and tried the Performance MX that jsut came out and feel in love.

Cons: None, notta, nothing...

Other Thoughts: Finally upgraded to a Performance MX, which is now the greatest mouse ever, but there will always be a place in my heart for the 518.

It is going to a good home though. The Mrs still has a ball mouse and it is time for her to get with the times. It should serve her well.

Cons: Glides like ice on a frying pan on my mouse pad, but thats only a problem if you let go of the mouse ^^

Rating + 5 Great Mouse For A Great Price

Pros: This is a great mouse. It's super comfortable for gaming and everyday use. The dpi controls are amazing and can be tweaked to your liking. I would highly recommend this mouse to anyone who wants a good solid mouse and a great price.

Cons: I have nothing bad to say about this mouse.

Other Thoughts: I saw this exact same mouse at Best Buy for $70 so if you're going to buy it, get it on Newegg!

Rating + 5 Great gaming mouse

Pros: I've had this mouse for a little over a year now and the feel is still great. The button positions are fine and don't get in the way. You can set the buttons to do different commands such as moving forward or back in webpages which is handy.
Great gaming mouse.

Cons: none

Rating + 5 Replaces my G7

Pros: Originally bought this as a backup when I ordered my G7 because if you've even been suddenly 'mouseless' for any reason you know what a royal pain it is to try to use your computer with just the keyboard. The G7 was a replacement for my beloved MX700 that I absolutely hated giving up. From the very first day the G7 gave me a hand cramp, but I assumed I would get used to it. Wrong. Months went by and it was still not comfortable. Then after several months the pointer started giving me trouble my not moving smoothly across the screen but had an unsteadliness to it. Then finally the pointer would simply disappear at random for 3 to 5 seconds at a time.
So, needing another mouse in a hurry I grabbed the MX518 that had been collecting dust all this time, and what sweet relief it was to feel a comfortable mouse in my palm again. And look, the pointer is silky smooth and extremely accurate. Gaming was suddenly a lot more pleasant again with precise control that I had forgotten was possible.

Cons: Well, it's not wireless; it has a cord. I hate cords. Why can't Logitech produce a wireless mouse that feels like this. Bring back the MX700!

Other Thoughts: After trying to solve the problem with my G7 by going to Logitech's support forum, it occurred to me that next time I'm shopping for a mouse or whatever, I'll check their support forum to see if people are having trouble with that particular product.
