For the price...
Pros: The 3D audio does work you can hear people behind u in games... For the cost Triton or other brands are much better.
Cons: Rear speakers are quiet. Sounds like a piece of plastic came loose in the right speaker and rattles around. Left speaker makes a digital static noise. Overall quality is nowhere near the cost.
Other Thoughts: Never buying anything from razer again. All of their products are cheaply made plastic objects with LED's

Failing Product
Pros: They feel and look real good. The sound quality is not as good as some others in the same price range.
Cons: From day one, one speaker was softer than the rest. I found that the potentiometer in the volume knob was out of sync. I talked to Razer and they said there was nothing I could do about it. Unfortunatly, I waited too long to get it fixed and they were out of warranty. Now, the mic pops when I move around, and the plastic clips on the headband broke.
Other Thoughts: I recommend getting something else. I have other Razer products that are failing too.

Proprietary connector is fail
Pros: Very good audio as headphones go, when new. The inline volume controls were very handy and easy to use with a big knob for the volume and simple, textured "wheels" for bass/treble and front/center/rear volumes.
Cons: Proprietary connector was dropped by Razer. They made the HP-1 headphones and the AC-1 sound card and that was it. Their new headphones all use standard jacks. It comes with an adapter, but you'd better keep close tabs on it (if you don't use it regularly).
They lasted a good year before the sound quality started becoming a little iffy. Since the source has always been their AC-1 sound card, it's hard to blame the source. Unless that *was* the problem, could be.
The tiny "eyeglass" screw holding on the right speaker fell out but luckily I saw it fall and managed to grab it before it vanished. I returned it from whence it came (Newegg won't let me use the word for inserting a screw into it's proper place :P), but ever since then the right ear has been staticky. Even before then the sound quality had degraded. Razer support said it would cost more to repair than if I just bought a new pair...
Other Thoughts: I've owned these for about 2-3 years now along with the Razer AC-1 sound card. I installed Win7 a month ago and discovered there's no Windows 7 support so far for the AC-1 sound card. I've long since lost the HD-DAI-to-3.5mm adapter, so the headphones have gone into my box of "useless electronics that I can't bear to throw away 'cause they cost me a small fortune when new". The sound card still sits in my PC, useless though, as I lost the adapter for it too. My 8yr old Sonys are plugged into my onboard sound and work. Not as good, but they work.
Final word: They're very good when mated to the sound card, but a little fragile. And with no more support for the HD-DAI connector, I wouldn't bother. They have at least 3 or 4 models of newer headphones that use more standardized connections.

not very happy
Pros: Very good sound quality, I really enjoyed these headphones until they broke, as I will elaborate on below.
Cons: I am on my second pair of these headphones, the first pair broke were the left ear cup holder meets the head band. This happened after about a month of very light use, maybe two or three times a week. It took three or four weeks to get a replacement pair, which I have been using even more sparingly than the first, maybe one or two times a week. Now two months late they broke again in the same spot. Now I am debating whether or not it is even worth my while and shipping costs to send them back to Razer.
Other Thoughts: My head is rather large so this might be a contributing factor, from the other reviews i did not expect to have this many issues. Very disappointed overall.

Sound good! But very cheaply made!
Pros: These sounded awesome when they're set up correctly. The bass in them is amazing. I used them for music and gaming and they were awesome for both.
Cons: For a set of headphones that cost as much as these do, I expected the construction to be a little better. These were more flimsy than the $30 cheapo's I bought for my son. Granted, they don't sound as good, but they still work! I was EXTREMELY careful, and mindful of these because of how flimsy they seemed when I received them. Even taking great care, screws fell out, the left woofer started rattling around in the cup. All of this and I never so much as dropped them. I'm HIGHLY disapponted in razer with this product. I faithfully use their gear but h*ll will freeze over before I'd recommend this garbage.
Aside from the terrible overall quality of the unit. The mic design is also terrible if you buy these don't take it out when you're not using it (ie listening to musin while working or whatever) because it will inevitably break. Mine stopped working within 2 months of getting them. And it's not like I was rough with it or plug/unplug it excessively.
Other Thoughts: All I can say is buyer beware!!! Don't even think about it. If you want to throw away money I'll give you my addy and you can just send it to me! Trust me, it'd be money better spent. ;)
I'm debating on the megladon's, they look sweet. But then so did these....

what's up with the mic?
Pros: The headphones are comfortable if a bit warm. The sound quality was good initially, but I'm having some strange noise and quality blips in Aion. Not sure if that's the headset or the game.
Cons: The mic. Design - why does it look like it was tacked on as an afterthought? Why does it stick somewhere into my neck below my left ear? Why do you have to work so hard to seat it in the socket so it picks up anything? Sensitivity - I fought for an hour to get the mic to pick up any sound at all. I found a setting in my X-Fi control panel that finally resolved that. However, I have to bump the inbound up to get anything near acceptable voice level. And then once I do, the static noise level is simply unacceptable.
Other Thoughts: Wrote a review on the Razer Lycosa keyboard that I purchased at the same time - dead keys on arrival.

Horrible build quality
Pros: -Comfortable for hours of game play -Mic worked great on the 2nd and 3rd pair... -Sound was alright, weak bass.
Cons: -Horrible build quality. Made out of cheap plastic and aluminum.
1st pair arrived and were broke out of the box. A cheap plastic piece where the headband connects to the headphone was broke and the mic didn't work. Newegg RMA'd them with no problem
2nd pair lasted almost 2 months and then the left earphone broke off and hung by a wire. Newegg wouldn't RMA them so I went through razer and got a new pair.
3rd pair lasted a little over 1 month and it broke the same way the 2nd pair did. The earphone just breaks where the plastic/aluminum is, straight across, nice clean break both times. I contacted razer, they are willing to give me a new set, a pair of carcharias, or a 50% off coupon for Megalodon's. I wish I could just get my money back.
Other Thoughts: I would not recommend these to anyone. They are cheaply made and will not last any gamer unless you treat them like gold, tuck them in at night, sing them a song, and only put them on your head once a week.
Do some research and buy a higher quality pair that will cost less and last you 10x as long.

broken 2
Pros: Decent sound, comfortable, long cord. been great for playing cs:s competativly
Cons: Mic sucks, has never worked for me. Weak in the bass but not bad. Worst part is that now 2 pairs have broken on me. the metal frame is thin and weak and after 4-6 months of wearing them they die on me. I've never dropped or abused them, and they keep just breaking
Other Thoughts: Just buy steel series. I know I will be

Very Cheap Product. Disappointed with Razer
Pros: Comfortable, Good for music.
Cons: First two weeks, Left speaker stops working.. I only used it twice. Sent it back
Month Later, Everything stops working. I wake up one morning to turn my computer on and nothing is responding on it. Send it back
Two months later, "Metal" on the left speaker begins to crack than it breaks. I take the metal off each side and make a headset. Week later the Right headphone breaks.. Probably my fault for the right headphone.
Cheap. Paint Scratched off in a few days.
Other Thoughts: Cheap. Paint Scratched off in a few days.

Poorly constucted.
Pros: Headphones are comfortable, performance is good.
Cons: The metal connecting the phones to the headband is very thin and brittle. Although I handled the set carefully, the right phone broke off after less than two months use.
I requested and received a replacement set from Razer, but it only lasted three months before the left phone broke off.

Good audio but shoddily built
Pros: Had it for a while, lasted, detachable mic was handy occasionally (but the small mic made losing it easy). Good sound quality and decent mic quality.
Cons: Began falling apart after a few months. First thing to go was the headstrap. It's elastic which is nice and fits the head, but the elastic inside is rather weak and broke. Had to open the headband up and fix it.
A month or so after that, audio went out in the right headphone. The wire is not well secured into the inline control (the control is also unnecessarily large and heavy). Had to open it up and reconnect a wire. Lasted another week or so before audio + mic cut out entirely.
Other than that, they just don't feel very solid.

Great Head set
Pros: 5.1 Surround sound with quick access volume control? Excellent Mic. Lights are cool, and you can turn them off.
Cons: Price. But worth it. Can hurt your ears depending on placement. Could use extra padding so the speakers are not physically on your years.
Other Thoughts: Paired with a Razer Barracuda AC-1 = awesome sound.
I hear people spawn in CS.

Save your money
Pros: Great sound quality. Comfortable. Cheap- I got them for $64.99
Cons: The box was in horrible shape when I received the product but the headset seemed to be in working condition. In the first week the earpiece broke called new egg they said that it look like a sturdy product so they wouldn't offer me a refund or a new product. I called razer they sent me a new one and guess what it broke again with in a moth use same problem as the first time the earpiece broke off, I've treated this product with extreme care and it still broke. Hopefully the third time is the charm.
Other Thoughts: Save your money if your willing to spend $120 on this product don't. Look in to other manufactures such as steel series they make much better products then razer.

Pros: Very nice gaming headset. feels comfortable even after long hours of play. Very useful in using sound for locating enemies in fps games like americas army.
Cons: The sound in one ear has a tendacy of dieing, i believe its the vibration of the speakers causing the speaker to break the solder connecting the wire. however you can return them to newegg or contact razer directly and they will replace them (if its been under a year).
The boom mic could be a little better, without mic boost its hard for people to hear me on teamspeak.
Other Thoughts: I'm a proud owner of 2 razer barracuda headsets, a razer lachesis mouse, and a razer megalodon headset :-D

Pros: lights up, matches my razer copperhead mouse, comfy on my head
Cons: u can get these for 1/2 the price at some other places. the sound sucks compared to my x52's by turtlebeach. Music sucks on these phones cant get enough bass. if ur turn them up too loud they distort, and i doubt if i had the razer sound card it would make a difference. The amplifier boost i cant tell a difference at all in games, music or doing sound test with my aftermarket sound card
Other Thoughts: i like the way this feels on my head, doesnt hurt my ears at all so far ( 3hrs gaming ). Using Ht omega striker 7.1 to power these headphones and well i get bass out of the sound test loads of bass, but not out of hip hop music/music in gen. i spose there alright but i would say save ur money and get them @ ****** for half the price or get a pair of x52's. be warned i have had to return my x52's for breaking as this is why i got these.
hope these helps u all out or atleast some of u
no i know why this doesnt have many eggs :(

Another review after a month
Pros: Extremely comfortable, incredible sound,Awesome bass, very clear, sound awesome with music. The bass rubles your ears.
Cons: Not sure if its the headset or game, but its almost like the rear speakers get used like they should. In L4D if your in front of a fire, you can hear it well,if you turn your back,it sounds like it's 30 ft away.
Other Thoughts: I have tried the Carcharias,,gamecon 777,and own the Tritton ax51's and Barracuda HP-1's.I have 2 sound cards in my machine, the xf-i musicxtreme and the Barracuda ac-1.The Barracuda are the only ones I still use..The Tritton's are very nice, but I love the rumble of the cuda's. Pairing the Cuda's with the ac-1 they are super clear. Its almost a toss up between the cards. People that complain about these don't have them set up right. You can't just plug and play these. You have to mess around with the settings on the sound card. These are the best gaming headset I've used..Period!

Great Headphones
Pros: Very comfortable and adjust very smoothly. I like having the option of detaching the mic for when I am watching movies or music. Being able to change the volume on the separate channels is very convenient. The long cord is a big plus.
Cons: Sometimes some of the surround channels will click when you are rotating a character in a game with the 5.1 enabled, more then likely it's the game but it is annoying. Sometimes the mic will be really quiet and you usually have to just unplug and plug back in the mic for it to work right again.

THEY ROCK....BUT SETUP IS IMPORTANT (NUMBER 2)
Pros: They sound amazing. I can tell exactly where people are playing Counter-Strike: Source. AMAZING HEADPHONES! BUT like the guy below me said. SETUP IS VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT!!! I used 5.1 setting for a long long time. Until the other day actually when I read the review below me. Before I read his review, i would have probably given them a 3 star. The reason for the only 4 is the cheap band that stretches in them and the echoing mic. Not a huge deal, I just use my old icemat mic and fix the headband (both sides) to like new.
REMEMBER TO SET THEM UP AS 4.1 NOT 5.1 THE DIFFERENCE IS NIGHT AND DAY
Cons: Using them for so long without enjoying the great sound. The mic sucks. People can hear my game echo through ventrilo with this mic. The headband has broken on mine twice. Both times the elastic band that runs through it, but I was able to fix it easy with safety pins.
Other Thoughts: REMEMBER TO SET THEM TO 4.1 LIKE REVIEW BELOW ME SAID! Also, when the band in the middle breaks (and it will) use safety pins to fix it up like brand new.

Sounds GREAT but fell apart!
Pros: Sounded excellent, absolutely loved listening to my games, music and movies with the intense wonderful sounds it was able to produce.
Cons: It fell apart while I was attempting to show my friend what it could do! I put it on my head, adjusted the mic and the right ear speaker snapped off without me even trying to adjust it. It was literally hanging by the speaker wires. It's not like I dropped it or ran it over with my computer chair or something (that usually eventually ends up happening as time goes by, not the first day!).
Other Thoughts: I gave it a two because it sounded great, it was just built poorly. I returned it the very same day.

They are ok.
Pros: Clear sound, very light and comfortable,Bass is ok.Long cord.Lights look cool.
Cons: Rear channels aren't loud enough,You can't tell how loud individual speaker volume is,they aren't marked.
Other Thoughts: They are a decent headset. I have the Cuda AC-1 that goes with them, but I can't tell the difference. I can see where people say they break, but they aren't that flimsy. The rear channels can't be heard very well. I've tried every mode and they are pretty good. The tritton ax51's blow them out of the water in every way tho.The tritton's are sturdier, the rear speakers are prominent, you can see what level the speakers are with the illuminated remote. The bass is better. Its clearer. It just sounds like way more of a quality headset.I also have an xf-i xtreme music in my puter and the tritton and the xf-i sound incredible together..

Most comfortable EVER...
Pros: I have a fair understanding of audio quality and devices but I bought them specifically for gaming with little other purpose except listening to winamp. They perform perfectly in TF2 and CounterStrike. They work well in other 3D audio enabled games.
The best aspect beyond the fact that they serve their exact purpose is the COMFORT. I have owned a LOT of headsets as a professional level gamer. I have never owned a pair half as comfortable as these.
Bass is good. 3D surround is good. Good when I am watching a 5.1 BluRay. Construction is much better than others have noted. Read other thoughts.
Cons: Expensive. Still only 10 dollars cheaper on NewEgg than I paid. I was sort of in a hurry to replace my headset since I needed it for a tournament. Friend gave me a 25$ off card at the store I purchased them at so it wasn't as bad plus they were on sale.
Other Thoughts: I've owned them for almost a year and haven't had ANY trouble with them. They have a TON of cord length and sometimes it gets a bit messy but I sit close to my tower. Rage currently sounds great on them. The people who have trouble with them breaking are out of their minds. I have dropped this headset probably 10 times on my wood floor. They are well built and have a strong frame.

broke
Pros: sounds great; looks nice; very comfortable
Cons: extremely fragile. I read many reviews on the headset and understood how fragile it could be and decided to purchase it thinking, "Well, these guys aren't me and I know how to baby my equipment..." . Like a new-born baby, it got the royal treatment...but to no avail. One night, I placed it on my seat, came back and picked it up and noticed it went limp. The entire casing holding the head support band with the 3 bolts cracked and shattered. I couldn't believe my eyes. Fragile can't even come close to describing it.
Other Thoughts: As far as sound and aesthetics go, I give it two thumbs up. Would I recommend buying it? no. There are way too many options out there. I'm not even sure I would purchase it for half the price...

FAIL
Pros: They worked very, very well. Emphasis on the past tense.
Cons: They broke. I read the reviews and took precautions. I treated them like delicate brittle eggshells...and they STILL broke. They lasted just over a monthThey snapped off right above the headphone and did so in such a way that I can't even superglue or epoxy them back together...maybe a ton of epoxy will.
Other Thoughts: Stop selling these headphones until Razor figured out wth they did wrong. I fell for the price cut / free game trap...and though the game itself help compensate fro the money spent...I was still buying headphones...not a video game.

Pros: Stayed together for a few weeks.
Cons: Complete junk. Both sides right above the earphones cracked. All i did was take them off hardly even expanding them and they cracked. Tried to glue them back together and now my right front speaker wont work. Ill go back to my $30.00 headphones that i have had for 3 years that didn't crack.
Other Thoughts: Fire the engineer who designed these please Razer.

Decent Sound at Least
Pros: The 5.1 helps me pinpoint enemies in-game that I couldn't distinguish otherwise. I can wear this headset for 10-14 hours a day without much problem. The volume controls are nice and they don't move easily, so you can avoid nudging them by accident. The mic records well, and works great in-game, although it does pick up too much ambiance, such as my case fans, but I edit that out of recordings easily enough.
Cons: Sometimes the 5.1 surround sound lacks in the rear and it's difficult to distinguish sounds at a height (rear up vs rear down). And sometimes I can't get sound to come out of the rear speakers at all, or it is very faint.
Wearing the headphones for prolonged periods becomes uncomfortable because your ears touch the inside of the cups. I'm used to it now though.
After ~6 months, the mic stopped working and screws started falling out (I lost them), and overall, the headset started "falling apart". Now, the mic needs to be held in place very tightly to make good contact. I had to macgyver the headset back together with some rubber bands and paper clips.
Other Thoughts: After 1.5 years I still use them, so they're not all bad. They were a gift so I'm not that disappointed with them either.
Only recently the speakers have been acting up, so I am going to find a different true 5.1 headset to buy.
I wouldn't recommend you buy these unless the price drops <$75. The sound is pretty good, but what good is the sound if the headset falls apart?

gahhh
Pros: they sound pretty good the light is nice...even though its blue like every other factory led. mic works pretty much all the time unless i do somthing stupid.
Cons: Lame die cast like metal is pretty brittle for around 70$ I would expect something a bit higher end. the right earpiece broke off completely and i dont think i can send it back.
Other Thoughts: good but I would get something cheaper because this price for a headset is crazy, you can find somthing way cheaper thats just as good and probably more sturdy.

Horrid quality
Pros: Great sound quality. Comfortable. Cheap- I got them for $64.99
Cons: Stupid thing holding the earpiece broke in a month and eleven days, just right out of Newegg's return policy.
The paint is pealing off, why isn't there any primer on it? Maybe it's just mine's that was a defect, but Razer QA should be better than that. I saw atleast two other people on here with that problem.
The covering on the wires connecting to each earpiece is cr@p. I see atleast two places where it is wearing off, or about to wear off. And this is just about a month and half of use, about 2-3 hours a day.
The 5.1 seriously is just a gimmick, compared to the 2.1 Creative Fatal1ty headset I have, using this gives me marginally better awareness of enemies sneaking up on me.
Other Thoughts: System: DFI LP LT X48 T2R Q9300 @3.4 2x2 OCZ Reaper PC2 8500 @1200 5-5-5-15 BFG GTX260 Creative Xtreme Audio <--- is what my headset is hooked up to

Do not want
Pros: Great sound quality when configured properly.
Cons: the adjuster at the earcup is flimsy and has already broken. contacted Razersupport for an RMA and they said they would contact me within 24 hours. It has been over 48 hours so far and no follow up emails, phone calls or anything.
Other Thoughts: Razer makes great mice keyboards and mousepads...Not so much on the headsets.

Terrible
Pros: -I was able to get a refund. -Not USB
Cons: Terrible sound, even after the overly complicated setup. I mean, it's a HEADSET! Only help Razer support was, was in recommending the matching amplifier (not included, another $100)
Other Thoughts: Didn't get these from the egg and I'm glad this was one instance that I didn't. The mounting excitement from a pending newegg delivery is enough. Had I waited and got this cr@ptacular piece in the mail, I'd have slashed my wrists.
For the $$, there are FAR better options available.

Solid Product
Pros: Comfortable headset for an adult sized head, w/ clear audio and functional mic.
Cons: Not the greatest bass, but it's fine for gaming and general computer use. Relatively easy setup but the default microphone is a little big short; although, it seems to be picking up my voice well.
Other Thoughts: I don't know why everyone is giving this product such bad reviews. I've bought several different razer products over the years and they have all lived up to my expectations. So far so good with this one no problems or difficulty so far.

Pros: sounds great, just gotta know how to adjust ur sound card, do 4.1 like one of the people before me said, and play with equalizer a bit, also some people said its hard to tell were the sound is actually coming from, well you can change the volume of front, center and rear sounds individually, so to me common sense says make rear half volume, front full, and center somewhere in between, but maybe thats just me. Ability to take the mic out is nice for when u are traveling, u can take it out so you dont break it off in a bag.
Cons: cant turn the mic off without unplugging the mic chord or take off the mic, kinda annoying but i can live with it
Other Thoughts: LIGHTS!!!!!! mic on/off switch would be nice

Good upgrade...
Pros: Sound great. Using a X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty PCI-E card these things sound as I had hoped. It took a couple of minutes to balance out the front/rear channel volumes, but no really drama. Driver is set for 5/5.1 speakers and I'm having no issues. Music quality seems excellent, nice range. So far sounds in games (mostly WoW) is also quite good.
Cons: Why, oh why do they make gaming headsets without mute switches for the microphone? Maybe I'm expecting to much but, even the cheapest headset have mute switches. Turning off the amp doesn't seem to kill the microphone. This may be a driver flaw (under Windows 7 RC 64bit) but I'm not thinking so. Goofy mic, it works but I think I would have preferred something I could move around a bit more.
Other Thoughts: Lights are cool, seems solidly built. A little surprised to not find any documentation in the box, but a quick search of the vendors web page found the needed information. Especially at the price at the time, a good deal. I'm taking a egg off for the lack of a mic mute ability until I determine if it's the headphones or Windows7.

Pros: Excellent sound quality, including the bass and the microphone. Surround sound means you'll hear them coming, and know which way they're coming from.
Cons: My first pair snapped in half.
Other Thoughts: The first pair of these I owned, which I bought used about a year and half ago, recently broke. I mean the metal just snapped in half, and they're unwearable now. But I just bought a second pair (this time new) because the sound quality is worth it, and they're cheaper than newer surround sound headphones.

Meh
Pros: True 5.1 positional audio. Comfy, even after hours of wear. Software is easy to use and customize (when used with the Barracuda AC-1 soundcard). Mike sounds clear, not too boomy.
Cons: Sound quality is not good at this price level. Explosions sound hollow, bass quality is awful, even with the dedicated sub built in. Turning up the bass EQ makes it sound like farting in a trash can. And I'm on my 3rd pair- over time the left can develops static, then starts dropping out, then dies. At this point you have to get them exchanged.
Other Thoughts: I have this paired up with a Barracuda AC-1 soundcard. The accuracy of the positional audio is the saving grace on these headphones.

Amazing Headset/phones
Pros: The mic is removable which is great but the sound is absolutely amazing IF you have the right sound card. I have the Creative X-FI Gamer card and the bass is so intense it makes the headset vibrate. Some people are saying to set this to 4/4.1 but I have mine set to 5.1 sound and it works perfect best headphones I've ever used and I have been through alot.
Cons: The controls on the headphones are kind of a cheap plastic but all is well.
Other Thoughts: Like I said you must have the right sound card for this to work at full potential otherwise it doesn't sound that great.

Great Headphones + But MIC is not USABLE
Pros: Great headphones, good sound, good fit.
Cons: MIC is not USABLE at all, there are a couple of work arounds; like buying an adapter from the Internets and buying another detachable mic. but that will set you back like $15-20. Also my base, center, and rear controls didn't work. That might be because of the way they were installed, but I could not get them to work.
Other Thoughts: 2 eggs for MIC not functional. I'm going to try to exchange these and see if the new ones work better.

Poor build quality
Pros: Sounded OK. I was (am) using a Barracuda sound card as well. Conveniant to have both.
Cons: Poor build quality. The frame broke after six months, and became totally useless a couple of months later. We are not talking rough handling here either. Construction and design was just not very good. Settings had to fiddled with too much to get acceptable sound. Too much of a gimmick, without enough quality to make them worth it.
Other Thoughts: I got them at considerable discount, so I was not too hot over their failure. You should too, since NewEgg's return policy might make them a decent risk, if you just have to have 'em.

I'd buy 'em again.
Pros: Good sound both ways. Easy set up and use.
Cons: Ears get sore after a few hours of use. I can wear my Sennheiser noise canceling headphones for hours and hours with no discomfort, but the Sennheisers cost a bundle and of course they don't have a microphone.
Other Thoughts: As I said previously, I'd buy 'em again!

pretty good headphones
Pros: This headset definatly has great great looks to it and verry comfortable fit on the head, its over the ears so no pain at all i love the blue lights on each side and the amp also the surround sound actually works as expected, pretty great for gaming
Cons: if you were looking for a headset with a lot of bass i probably wouldt go with this one and i was one of the peopl looking for just that so yeah at max volume all of the highs and mids just mix together and sound a little bad but nothing major at all
Other Thoughts: the bass actually makes the headset rumble which is tight they could have made the lights pulsate like the razer deathadder and also they could have put an indicator on what level the volume is at on the main knob but its no big deal

50$
Pros: Very comfortable on the head/ears blocks out most sound
Cons: The mic is a jack you push into the bottom of the ear piece mine constantly slipped out just enough to mute mic i would have to push back in and go into programs and unmute mic.
Other Thoughts: I have honestly had 50$ headsets with better quality sound I just bought a sienhesser 350 gaming headset for 150$. And the difference in sound is easily noticable. the sienhesser blocks out all sound. Basically i wouldnt pay any more than 50 for this headset PERIOD

Ouch.
Pros: Acceptable sound, not as flimsy as many reviews claim.
Cons: These headphones are the most uncomfortable headphones I have ever worn. Not only do they push on and hurt my ears but after a few hours of use each day they started to rub the skin off my ears and actually made them bleed. I can't even wear them anymore because I am scared they will scar my ears for life.
Other Thoughts: I won these in a gaming tournament. I really feel sorry for people who bought these and use them more than an hour a day.

Pros: Great sound, unbelievable for gaming, really quite nice all around for music and movies. Once I got them set up correctly, the sound was incredible. If you're into competitive gaming, I would definitely recommend these.
Cons: I'm worried that they'll break just because of all the negative reviews. So I'm being very careful with mine. One word to the wise, don't leave the desk with the volume control still hooked to you =)

Worth it
Pros: i pluged them in and then set them up correctly. some minor tweaks to the channels and they sounds amazing. nice range and i love the bass. i am going from the razer piranhas to these. these are so much more comfortable! they are loud!
Cons: the brick...
Other Thoughts: im glad i didnt listen to half the reviews and i wish people would set these up b4 reviewing them i have them set up as 5.1 with all the full range turned off and i have bass management on with crossover at 80hz in an office sized room. speaker fill is also on.

Great But...
Pros: Great sounding if paired with the Barracuda AC-1. Nice touch with the sides of the headphones glowing blue with the razer snake triad logo. Nice work with the volume control, easy access to controls. Overall amazing sound and great positional audio. The pigtails included are great if you want to swap between headphone use and actual speaker surround sound.
Cons: Mine broke were the earphone forks attach to the upper headband strap. It just one day decided to snap, no worries to easily repaired though....See other thoughts...Not that great sound for music playback...
Other Thoughts: Repaired with 5min epoxy (A.K.A. Double Bubble Adhesive) Mic is able to be detached and fitted with a higher end mic of wanted. Gave it 4 eggs cause it broke after 22 months of use and discomfort after long use 3+ hours.

Absolute Trash
Pros: Nice box.
Cons: Razer is just garbage when it comes to quality items. You pay premium and you get something that is outplayed by a really sub par headset in terms of quality. I've read many reviews about this item being defective and rather 'cheap' material wise - they're all very true. I would not recommend this to anyone. My headset was defective upon arrival.
Other Thoughts: A friend of mine went through 4 of these headsets because they kept sending replacements that were defective. I would NOT recommend this to anyone, even the doubters (I used to be one), you will be disappointed.

Good and bad...
Pros: Well, after I played with settings for a couple of hours I got them sounding pretty nice, and was enjoying the vibration form the weights on the bass drivers. The surround sound effect is very nice from what I got a chance to hear, though I have never used surround-sound headphones so I don't have much basis for comparison. I didn't have enough time to really get into them though before the problems started.
Cons: After a few hours I started getting a buzzing sound whenever my hand was near the control pod, it was loud and irritating though I found the noise went away when I grounded myself. After a little longer the noise was present at all times, but would go away for a few moments if I moved the control pod around. I was getting ready to RMA them when someone tripped over the cord and tore the wires out of the control unit :-/
I decided I may as well crack the thing open and look for any obvious problems. What I found was exposed copper on the incoming wires which I suspect may have been causing the noise
Other Thoughts: I guess I can't RMA them now since they are essentially destroyed, but I am going to attempt repair.
Not sure how well the mic works, didn't get a chance to use it.

Thing doesn't come with a manual
Pros: no breakout box (not including the manual volume control) means no ac power needed! You still need to plug the usb in so it can power itself... there is a master volume control, set your speakers and use it so you'll hardly ever have to set it again. Buy a stand to set it on and maybe you'll never have that problem. (kill the cat what's more important, the cat or your game?? I'm a dog person anyway)
Cons: Yeah no manual. There is one on the website though... it's little more than an info sheet, but that's all I needed. Pretty simple setup though the connectors aren't labeled. no digital connections (other than the proprietary thingy), one optical line would have made it too easy on you I suppose :( black on black is VERY hard to read, where only the volume controls (front/rear/center/bass) are labeled... WHEN are OEMs gonna figure this out?? Hadn't figured out what this amplifier does?? perhaps would if I gamed... turn it off, no led to contend with. there are three positions on the on/ off switch btw... Speaking of on/ off switch AND the volume controls, they feel kinda cheap ^_^ just sayin'.
Other Thoughts: I used to have a Niko 5.1 headset. It looked way worse than these. The Niko's came with a breakout box (not including the manual volume control) which was kind of handy as it let me plug in my speakers simultaneously. The thing is comfortable, I've had them on since I got them 5 hours ago ^_^. I've used studio headphones, magnetically shielded studio speakers (monitors), mono headsets all used for hours at a time on video editing sessions and these are comfortable, BUT the wire is a bother... it tugs with the strength of Poseidon! Having had a SS (5.1) headphones before I kinda' knew what to expect... thing needs proper setup or the rear/ centers will interfere with your fronts or you'll have too much bass... setup may take forever and you may be resetting a lot too. Don't blame me :o thing sounds fine. I'd not tried gaming yet... ironically I don't really game anyway Yes I have to u/g my integrated s/c now... but my triple-sli board has only 1 free slot otherwise! What is a boy to

DO NOT BUY!
Pros: None, would be nice to get a working pair, but this is unacceptable.
Cons: They don't work. First pair - crapped out on me the second time I put them on my head (sound was horrible too). Second pair - OUT OF THE BOX! DID NOT WORK! The headset cut in and out the first time I plugged it in, and now it just doesn't turn on. I have had a working pair of these for 10 minutes COMBINED. I am completely disgusted I gave this company money. They should completely get out of audio, or learn how to make a durable pair of headphones.... SERIOUSLY????? There is something wrong when you get back to back deffective headphones. RMAing for a refund. Thank you, Newegg!

comfortable
Pros: comfortable and sound is good. adjustment pod is easy to use and easy to hold.
Cons: none that i see though i am careful with them after reading some of the reviews.
Other Thoughts: you will need a good sound card to use these. a good card to you may not be good enough for these headphones.

Meh'
Pros: Not many pro's here but the comfort level was fine for long periods of use. With a good sound card there is plenty of bass.
Cons: I run a higher end creative sound card and even with tweaking and tuning could not get a proper surround positioning for enemies in cod4. Surround speakers sound very tiny. 8 drivers in the headset powered from a usb port could put a strain on the mother board. Build quality is sub par at best. After owning for only 6 months the left ear cub just snapped off at it's mounting point to the rest of the headset. I am the only person to handle them and know they have not been miss treated, dropped, ect.ect. My turtle beach hpa-2 headset was much better at a lower price.
Other Thoughts: You can get better for a much lower price. I think the gaming surround sound headsets have a long ways to go as far as quality and workability go. I believe that a high quality stereo set would work better such as the Sennheiser headsets that may be my next choice.

Good sound, but not durable enough
Pros: I bought this along with the AC-1 Soundcard. At first the combo sounded worse than my integrated sound card, which was a decent Realtek alc1200. I had a good set of logitech headset, but I wanted a new combo for my new computer. I was disappointed. However, after messing with the sound settings, the sound became crisp, clear, and defined. I'm no audiophile, but the sound was very good. The mic worked fine for me. Took me a minute to figure out the appropriate settings, but it was loud enough and durable enough.
In gaming, it can be difficult to adjust to the increase in speaker channels. I play Counter-Strike, and many other VALVe games, so the importance of knowing where your foes are can be high. Once you get adjusted, the Razer gives additional depth of hearing. It can be awkward, however.
Cons: Takes a while to adjust to the sound.
Here's the real problem for me.
The brackets that hold the speaker in place weren't sturdy. The speak dislodged itself one day. I wasn't rough with it, and I treated the headset with respect, as it cost me a lot of money. However I wasn't able to reconcile with this error. I dealt with it and tried some ways to fix it, but none worked well. It's simply not built strong enough. Now, the right speaker is out completely, and some of the wires are separating. It's frustrating. It's been 6 months since I bought it. The speakers dislodged from the bracket about 3 months in. I would make it work so I could listen and play, but now I need to replace it. With the AC-1 card, I'll likely have to get another HP-1. We'll see.
Other Thoughts: I think Razer is a great company, and possibly I got a bad headset, but it's disheartening to spend a lot of money on something that breaks after so soon is not good value.

the best
Pros: I've had these for 2 yrs now and work as good as the day i bought them. Running a sound blaster extreme. Would like to hear them on razer sound card. You can not go wrong getting these headphones.
Cons: only con would be finding settings that work well on your system.but thats not much of a con really
Other Thoughts: wish i had the money when they were on shell shocker for 69$ would have got a back up set when and if these die out.But i don't think that will be anytime soon.

Third time not a charm
Pros: Comfortable still after a few hours of wear. Cool lights that match my keyboard and mouse. 5.1 is neat when it works.
Cons: TERRIBLE QUALITY. The in-line sound level module feels cheap and flimsy. When I first bought these 2 years ago i was excited about the 5.1 experience but now that my front left speaker has, for no apparent reason, taken a dive, I'm not so excited anymore. Mind you, this is the third Barracuda headset I've had since the other two were defective straight from the $140 package. The bass is weak on my X-Fi Fatality card (and I've tried every setting under the sun to get it better). If you do increase the levels then it washes out the bass and sounds like someone tried to install a super amp into a tweeter to get bass. Finally, the mic is, to say the least, cr@#. Mic boost the thing and my neighbor twelve houses down can pick up my signal. Turn off the mic boost and I can here a mouse fart over ventrilo. For the price and the reputation that Razer touts to have, I expected a heck of a lot more for my money. Sorry Razer, but I am no longer a fan.
Other Thoughts: AMD 6400+ X2 3.0 Ghz Vista 32-bit BFG Tech Nvidia 8800GTX 768mb 4gb Corsair Ram Razer Tarantula and Copperhead :(

Great Sound - Poor Build Quality
Pros: Very clear bass. The speakers are so powerful if you turn the bass up high enough the cans will actually vibrate on your head! 5.1 is excellent for FPS's as you can virtually pinpoint exact locations of players. Sound range is good AFTER you make adjustments. Best used with Razor's sound card. Fairly comfortable to wear even during extended sessions.
Cons: With no adjustments mids tend to get lost. Build quality is HORRIBLE. While wearing these one night I felt the left can start to move. In less then a second the frame around it was digging into the side of my head and the can was dangling by a wire. I purchased this headset despite several other reviews here and on other sites that claimed they break easy. I assumed it was due to people throwing/dropping them. I admit I was very, VERY wrong with that assumption.
Other Thoughts: There are many other choices for headsets out there. While these fall into the mid price range you could pick up another pair that won't sound as good but won't break as easily. If you're looking for a headset solely for music, these are NOT for you. Yes, the 5.1 will sound cool but a stereo headset for same price will give you better sound reproduction as well as a fairly believable simulated surround sound experience.

Pros: Amazing sound for FPS gaming. As many have said before me, your kills will go up because you hear your enemy a lot sooner. Work extremely well with the Razer AC 1 soundcard, which it was built for. Mic works fine, after boost is applied
Cons: Right can broke off the hinge after 6 months of use. Dongle loses sound punch if used with onboard or soundcard thats not AC1.
Other Thoughts: Remember these were built to accompany the AC1 sound card. Together, it is an extremely deadly combo when gaming. If you dont like to tweak, dont buy, they need to be personalized to what you like. Also, if using AC1 soundcard, 4 channel does sound much better than 5.1

A PRETTY PIECE OF JUNK
Pros: The LEDs look pretty.....
Cons: BUYERS PLEASE TAKE HEED!!! do not buy this item! read the reviews from all of us unhappy customers before you click on that "PURCHASE" button! all of the people who are angry at Razer for taking us for our hard-earned money are warning YOU not to buy this piece of junk! YES, THIS HEADSET IS A PIECE OF JUNK!!! what went wrong you ask? plenty! first, the headset frame broke just after a week or so. I just picked them up off my desk and ...... SNAP! the headset frame just broke in half. so, I brought out the ol' duct tape. NEXT, just today, I went to plug-in my duct taped headset and start my game when nothing...no LEDs, no sound, no nothing!! they completly stopped working! tried another $20 pair from Walgreens and they worked. tried another and they worked. went back to this hunk of junk and ......NOTHING. they just DIED!!! AGAIN, DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM!!! I WANT TO SAVE YOU FROM WASTING YOUR MONEY! also, the customer service from RAZER has to be the worst in America!!! read others who ha
Manufacturer Response:We are sorry this product did not work out well for you. If you feel your product broke under normal circumstances please contact our support team at www.razersupport.com and they will be happy to help you with a replacement. Once again NO REFUND
Pros: Nice looking box
Cons: Horrendous sound, ZERO bass, extremely poor quality, even worse customer support
Other Thoughts: well, got these for CHRSTIMAS....bought directly from RAZER...RMA process is extrememly tedious and took until 10 January..just to get RMA number...shipped same day to company....its the 4th of MARCH..still no refund....please read my other reviews below... DO NOT BUY THESE..I dont know who they pay to give them good reviews, but they are all lies...these are absoultey the worst headphones on the market...and some of the most expensive junk you can buy...DO NOT...EVEN IF THEY WERE THE LAST PAIR ON THIS GREEN EARTH>>BUY THESE>>DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT>>>
Manufacturer Response:Hi SmOoV_1, I want to apologize for the delay in issuing your refund. There was a slight glitch in our system and your refund took much too long to process. This glitch has been corrected and should never happen again. Agreed that this is inexcusable and we are sorry about the long delay. At this point in time you should have your refund and a little more. I am not sure why you had the issues with sound quality on the HP-1. The HP-1 has a frequency response from 50hz to 20KHz, not bad at all for a pair of headphones! It also has individual setting for the bass control so you should be able to adjust your bass very loud if you like it that way. If you read the many customer reviews on the Razer HP-1 on Newegg and elsewhere I am sure you will see they reflect positively on the sound quality of these headphones.

Best set of 5.1 Headphones in this price range!!
Pros: Great set of true 5.1 Headphones. I have owned 3 other pairs of headphones (Plantronics 777, Tritton AXPC, Turtle Beach x-52) prior to getting these. The Razers blow all of them out of the water. The construction is sturdy. The sound is awesome and I am running from onboard sound on a eVGA x58 Motherboard. The boom mic looks weird but it works well. The built in amplifier is great! If you want to blow your eardrums out you can. The per channel controls work the best out of the three headsets I have had with them on it. It takes a little bit of tweaking in your soundcard audio properties to get the best bass response but once you get it these things ROCK. I have only had them for about 2 weeks so I don't know if they'll last but so far so good. I have 3-way SLI so I'll never get the soundcard for these but I can't imagine the sound getting any better.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: Out of the other three headsets i have had the only one that compairs in sound is the Plantronics 777 but they don't have true 5.1 the have dolby surround which just isn't enough for FPS Gaming.

Great personal surround sound
Pros: Surround sound is absolutely indispensible when playing first-person shooters--you get an incredible edge from hearing your enemies sneaking around--and this was my second 5.1 headset. My first was a completely USB-driven set with its own drivers, but I bought this one specifically because I wanted my surround sound to use my SB Audigy 2 ZS.
The headset works great and I don't remember having to do any excessive tweaking with my equalizer, sound balance, or whatever. I'm not really sure what else to say other than they do the job very well. They've even fallen off my desk a couple times onto the floor and they're still in fine working condition
That said, I still have a few issues that irritate me...
Cons: The cord is long enough that, if you're a klutz like me, you'll manage to snag it on something every now and then. After all I've put my headset through, it's starting to get some internal wire breaks, so if I do an excessive amount of moving around while wearing my headset, I might get some static or pops. Since I'm almost always sitting and in the exact same spot, it's not much of an issue at the moment, though I worry about the future.
Another issue I have is that, going by default color-matching on the jacks (again, I have an Audigy 2 ZS), the sound is very off (not sure how to explain it). HOWEVER, what has worked for me and may work for you is to switch the red and black jacks around. That completely fixed it and things sound proper again.
Yet another con is that the screws for the cups get loose every now and then, but that's a simple fix.
The only other con is the price. These are a bit costly, but I can't imagine not having a 5.1 headset anymore.
Other Thoughts: I would really only recommend 5.1 headsets for gaming. You don't really /need/ 5.1 for watching movies and videos on youtube or for listening to music, but it's nice to have.

Excellent for gaming
Pros: Excellent sound after you spend some time setting these up. OhMyGawd! You can hear what you've been missing. FPS games are incredible, you will hear where people are before you see them. Incredible highs/mids/lows and with the proper setting RUMBLE. If a nade lands near you, you will jump, I swear. Hope you have a healthy heart.
Cons: 1. You will be labled H4X0R, because you can tell where people are. 2. Do not wear this headset for more than 1-2 hours a week, yes a week. They will rub the tips of your ears raw, bleeding even. No where near deep enough for this kind of price. 3. These lasted me a year. the metal they are made of is so fragle. I was so gentle with these but they still broke. They still work but where the break is so hard to fix.
Other Thoughts: For the money, you will not beat these, but be extremly carefull, they are delicate. I bought the eDimentional Audio FX Pro 5.1 to replace these, which is horrible. Not sure if I should buy these again or the Tritton $159 ones...hmm.....

Avoid this brand.
Pros: The LEDs are blue.
Cons: I got about 8 months out of these headphones before the connection to the mic broke and it would randomly decide to only output loud static. I shipped them back September 2, 2008. Three weeks later I asked where they were and they were out of stock until September 28. On October 6 I asked again where they were and did not receive a response. I emailed them again October 23 and got a tracking number, got them back in November, and the microphone didn't work, again.
I opened a new round of tickets November 17. By November 24 we had determined it was the mic. I was told then that someone from the RMA dept would contact me directly, but after two weeks had not received a response. After another prod a new mic arrived.
It's February 19 today and I can't get any input from the mic. I'm tired of this game with Razer. I have a random headset picked up while I was waiting for the RMA the first time and they just work.
Other Thoughts: You can't replace the mic with any other mic you pick up, the jack is mono-only and will receive nothing but garbage from a normal mic. And the silly proprietary HD-DAI jack will prevent you from plugging another mic directly into the AC-1 soundcard if you bought that as well, unless you go through two included dongles.
Also, the volume control knob you might find on other headphones is a BRICK on these, that tugs against the connections inside the headset. It has a clip to attach it to yourself, but it is of course upside-down and doesn't hold anyway. There's also no in-line mute, but I guess it doesn't really need one since the microphone is very weak if it works at all.

Still no refund
Pros: soft earpieces, blue leds
Cons: Horrible audio, weak durability, inaccountable support, no bass, HUGE dongle for cable, clock radio style high audio range. Steer clear of these or anything else RAZER...This is a buyer beware type announcement. Please head these warnings...All the good reviews on here must be written by the same guy.
Other Thoughts: Well, I am a radio maintenance electronics master craftsman, with 14 years audio experience. I build gaming computers for the heck of it. I know audio..these things are the biggest waste of money out there. My wife bought me these for christmas directly from RAZER...There was no bass, and no center channel. I know how to hook them up properly, and I tried them on 4 different computers in my home. I applied for an RMA two days later. 26 Dec... After waiting until 10 Jan to recieve the RMA number, I mailed the headphones out the same day. It is now 18 February...no refund... I called today...they recieved the headphones, but don't know why I haven't recieved my refund. They upchanneled my problem to their teir 2 support. We will see where that gets me... They responded to my review here, and blamed all their problems on Christmas...ITS FEB NOW. Its a new year, come up with a better excuse for horrible audio and lack luster support.........RESPOND to this one

Junk
Pros: None
Cons: Price, Microphone is junk, falls out, and now after 3-4 months it doesnt work at all. Plugs are not compatible with many audio cards, even creative line. (most common) cheap, my daughter could have built these.
Other Thoughts: Razer drivers are junk too, I have a tarantula keyboard, mouse and headphones, thee mouse is the only thing from them worth buying. Usully i cant see my keyboard when pc posts. That blows! drivers are not reliable at all, if you change anything in windows that has to do with subsystem, you will loose your keyboard.
Manufacturer Response:Sorry to hear you are having issues. The mic shouldn’t be going out on your like that but it does sound like you are still well within the warranty period so we will be able to take care of you. Please contact us at www.razersupport.com and we will be happy to take care of you. Also, we want to make sure you unit came with the DVI/Audio adapter. With the adapter, the HP-1s are compatible with any 3.5mm audio port. For optimum sound quality, make sure your soundcard is set up for 5.1 audio. Best regards, Razer Support www.razersupport.com

Good Sound, Horrible Production
Pros: Awesome sound... once you tweak it as needed. Blue LED's went well with the rest of the setup.
Cons: Setup. To be honest I don't believe it should take hours to tweak headphone for comfort. They are horribly designed as well. The mic doesn't seem to snap in properly as it continued to fall out while I was gaming. It also seems the paint easily peels off, which doesn't fully justify the price. I would've like if they allowed lighting on the control pod so that you knew which of the controls you were changing if the lights were off around you.
Function over form, sure, but I could've done a better job painting them. I still might.
Other Thoughts: Good choice in terms of audio, but I'd consider finding them for less than $100.

Great for gaming, terrible durability
Pros: Great for gaming, I can easily here where people are coming from.
Cons: They break VERY easily. I carried them around in a seprate bag to LAN's just so nothing would any weight on them, and they still broke, I then tried to reinforce them myself, and it broke in even new spots. The skinny plastic frame snaps very easily. Now it has cut some of the wires and there is no audio from the right ear.

Real Nice Sounds
Pros: Great sound. Very comfortable when you get used to them. Mic works reasonably well. Blue lights match my Razer Keyboard and Copperhead mouse. Cord is pleanty long.
Cons: It was very tight fitting on my head at first. These are not plug and play. It is a pain to set them up and get them sounding just right. You need to have a good soundcard for these to sound their best. I had to return the first pair due to a short in the headphone jack. Mic has no real noice cancallation. It picks up everything. You have to really turn the bass up and use a LPF to feel the rumble from the bass drivers.
Other Thoughts: I just moved into a small apartment so now I can't use my Klipsch 2.1's. These are a reasonable replacement for them. Its not really the fault of the headphones, but I can't get them to work right in Vista on my X-Fi card. Maybe someday Creative will put out a decent driver.

good while it lasted
Pros: comfortable, mic picks up voice well, overall decent sound quality.
Cons: circuitry of the inline sound volume package. very shoddy soldering and cheaply made. the resistor pots did not last very long on the center channel nor the master volume. I would say Razer needs to find better component manufacuters. I understand that these are more than likely made in china or some other place in the far east but the quality of the electronic components cannot be skimped on.
Other Thoughts: I ended up replacing most items on the circuit board with components from DigiKey and Mouser... which means I rebuilt the board. Not hard to do.. but it sounds a thousand times better.

Good headset with problems
Pros: Amazing positional audio. Comfortable to wear.
Cons: They like to break, a lot. I'm on my third set now, and my warranty is running out. I will likely buy them again after the warranty is up.
First set the detachable mic quit working. Second set, the right can fell out of it's bracket, and the part where you inset the screw fell into the can, and could not be reattached. Hopefully the third set can last. I've treated them all like a newborn baby, and still had these problems.
Other Thoughts: I've owned them for almost 2 years now, and they have helped my FPS gaming out enormously. Unfortunately I get banned from a lot of servers for suspected wall hacking. The positional audio is superb, and when I a non 5.1 headset now I feel disoriented. I originally had them paired with onboard sound, and the results were lackluster. Currently I'm running them off an Auzentech xfi prelude with much better results. No more static, and bass that rattles my brain. It is a must to have them paired with a decent soundcard. Most of the reviews on newegg are from people who don't have good equipment, and lack the know how to get them set up properly.

Perfect Surround Sound Experience
Pros: Soft and light on the ears and head. Perfect surround sound. Incredible bass response. Nice long cord to connect to PC. Best sound I have heard form a set of headphones, EVER.
Cons: A bit pricey but worth it overall. Not the user friendliest software, but simple enough to figure out.
Other Thoughts: I have the RAZER sound card to compliment these headphones. I read almost every review here on NE about these before purchasing. I honestly cannot understand anyone who would give these less than 5 eggs. They are NOT flimsy contruction, they are designed to be flexible to conform the the shape of your head rather than rigid plastic like most headphones.
They have AMAZING sound with crisp high end and head rattling bass.
There was no issue with installation. The software for customizing the sound isnt the most intuitive but through the inline controls and the software I was able to create the perfect output for my listening pleasure.
I would recommend these to anyone with HD or surround sound output from their PC.
After just a day of getting used to these I noticed that the sounds truly felt like a surround sound system in a room rather than surround sound headphones.
And as always, New Egg was top notch for my purchase and shipping

Best Gaming Headset
Pros: I have had these for over a year now... they have to be the best headset I have ever owned...the comfort is unbeatable I have played games for hours and I couldn't hardly tell that I even had them on and there snug fit is great, The sound quality is awesome and the 5.1 surround is the best, I have owned many different headsets and this one beats them all.
Combined with my X-Fi sound card it was a whole new world in gaming and music. I heard sounds in my games that i have never heard before. and the ability to hear what direction that your competition is coming from is a plus
Cons: The screws that hold the ear cups on like to come loose, but as often as i use them i can see why...just tighten them every once in a while and all is well...not real much of a con though
This is not really a con but you could plug them into the wrong plugs of your sound card, read the doc'c for both the sound card and Headset as to which plug goes where.
Other Thoughts: After reading most of the reviews I really don't understand some of the other reviews My guess is there expecting something that there not or miss handling them or even connecting them wrong, the wires are firmly held in place, the sound quality is great, independent volume for the front, center, rear and sub speaker is solid along with the master volume. the removable Mic is a plus and works great with Vent and Teamspeak

RAZER should just get out of the audio realm
Pros: They look nice in the box...
Cons: horrible sound, extremely horrible customer service, horrible quality, built in a dirty factory,
Other Thoughts: I had to email them all the information from my order to recieve my RMA. That was the 26th. Its now 1 Jan 09 with no RMA number. These guys are a joke. I will never ...EVER ...buy or reccomend any of there products. Hopefully the gaming community will see how RAZER has really fallen off. I think that the true gamers will notice their lack of quality. If they are going to keep a customer it will probably be the kids who like blinky lights. Horrible company, they even lie on their manufacturer responses. See some of the posts below.
Manufacturer Response:We were unable to pull up any RMA information under the name “Skiscola”, however I am sure a RMA has been issued to you at this point. E-mails to our support team are answered in an average of less than 5 hours. However, during the busy week following Christmas these responses may take a little longer. As you can imagine that is one of the busiest times of the year for any support team. We are sorry about the bad experience you had with the HP-1 and we trust you now have your replacement. Most customers think the sound of the HP-1 is fantastic and that is echoed in many of the reviews here. I am sure your replacement unit will meet your expectations. Best regards, Razer Support www.razersupport.com

Nothing special
Pros: Very comfortable. Fit snugly. Good surround sound capabilities.
Cons: Sound quality is nothing special. You can get headphones with much better sound quality than this for the same price, albeit without the surround sound capabilities.
Other Thoughts: If all you intend to use these for is gaming, it's a great set of headphones, but if you plan on using them for music, look elsewhere.
I am using these with the Barracuda sound card they are meant to be paired with. Used witha nother sound card, your mileage may vary.

Awesome
Pros: It's 5.1 surround sound. My music sounds amazing on it. My games sound great on it. I love the way it fells on my head. I like the separate audio controller that is connected to the device. It has dials for Bass and the speakers loudness.
Cons: 1. It gives me a headache when I'm listening to it for 4+ hours.
2. It has Electronic feedback on onboard sound. (Easy solution: Get a HD sound card. I'm using ASUS Xonar DX. Cleared the feedback up.)
3. Price is to high.
Other Thoughts: I've read other reviews about it and people are experiencing feedback on it. I would recommend getting a new sound card. Feedback is caused by damaged compositor on your motherboard.

please do not buy this headset
Pros: LEDs make it appealing
Cons: breaks very easily, uncomfortable for prolonged use for gamers, the wires PULL out of the headset, the headset ear parts break off, forcing me to return the headset, but the second headset had the wires pulling out of the headset. If you drop the volume portion of the headset, it yanks on the wire in the earpiece, causing more damage and annoyance.
Other Thoughts: dont even consider buying this headset, sure it has surround sound, looks cool, blah blah, but you will be uncomfortable and be trying to return it for another one when it breaks.
Manufacturer Response:Comfort is an individual issue, but we find most users find the Razer Barracuda very comfortable. Others reviewers on this site point out the comfort of the Barracuda asa positive. Any users having any issues with their units should contact our support crew at www.razersupport.com and we will be happy to help you out. Obviously we cannot warranty any issues caused by excessive dropping, smashing or pulling. This may not be the case here, but just noting this in case your kid brother tries to use them for a jump rope.

Barracuda is more like a Guppy
Pros: Soft earpieces...
Cons: It sounded like there was clock radio speakers strapped to my head. The bass did not function at all. I tried it on two seperate computers all running some type of creative sound card. One running vista and one XP.The center channel went in an out and the bass was totally absent. There is a huge dongle or DVI connector at the end of the cable that you have to put another large adapter on to use normal analog ports. just looks like it would put a strain on your ports. This is a very heavy headset and seems to weight as much as my motorcycle helmet. The main potentimetor that controls the overall sound level..makes crackles and pops as you turn it up or down. This indicates dust or dirt in the resistor. This normally happens to old stereos or headsets, not brand new ones. I got these for christmas from my wife. She bought them directly from RAZER.
Other Thoughts: The RMA process from RAZER is extremely unbearable. You must resend them all of the information about the order to include your address and what you bought. They already have all of this information!!! Then it take 2-3 business days to get a reply. Thats just to get the RMA number to send it back. They do not pay for any shipping. So I have to pay an extra $20 bucks to get my exchange or refund. Their support number can do nothing to help you. One of the representatives I spoke with said that he had no idea what he was doing and talks to his computer all day. The computer tells him what to do!! The next representative didn't know where to find the serial number for the item i was returning, but they needed it before they would issue an RMA. Finally, after dealing with this issue I asked why I should remain a customer of RAZER and they could not give me an answer. I asked if he would remain a customer and after a long pause he mumbled "I guess". DO NOT BUY THESE
Manufacturer Response:Sorry about any problems you had with the headphones and any issues you had with Razer support. Support gets back to all e-mails in an average of less than 6 hours, this may take a little longer during the busy Holiday Season. It should not take 2-3 days, but if you contact Razer on Christmas Eve it may take a little longer. It sure is a pain having to go through any return process, but like with any company we have to verify a few details before an exchange can be issued. Usually the process is quick and painless, please accept our apologies if it was not and for any issues you may have had with the unit.

Outstanding headset for gaming
Pros: Quality positional audio, outstanding expanded stereo, controller that allows you to tweak center, front, rear, and sub volumes independently.
Another reviewer wrote that the directional audio is reversed when you set your sound format to 5.1 -- I think he may need to check/recheck his connections and/or soundcard setup. I've had no problems with the headphones whatsoever - explosions in front of me sound like they're in front of me while events behind me sound like they are behind me - either his wiring is messed up (either internally to his headphones or externally where he plugged into his soundcard), or his control panel settings for speaker setup are out of whack.
The subwoofer effect is quite good - in fact, if you dial up some bass on your controller and then crank the master volume up a notch, you'll actually feel the headphones vibrating on your head - it sounds silly but once you feel it, you're sold. Something about head-shaking bass when I hit a killing spree in UT3.
Cons: None really - there are no detents on the individual volume dials (would be nice, would definitely help during setup and fine-tuning)
Other Thoughts: Paired these to an X-Fi ExtremeGamer Fatal1ty soundcard; they make a great couple. I switch between a Logitech X-530 5.1 setup and these, and prefer the headphones - positional audio is clearer and crisp compared to the X-530 system.
It takes a little while to really dial in these headphones, but once you do, it's awesome. The only problem is you may have to tweak those settings according to the game you're playing.
The mic is detachable, a plus (or minus, depends on how you look at it), and very good at picking up sound.
And, if you're like me, you probably hate the cracking and popping sounds that some games generate on the X-Fi. Sorry, these phones don't solve that, it's an issue with EAX/Creative and the games you play. Ah well.
Still, a great buy.

suggest another maybe
Pros: Great Sound quality. I heard things that i didnt even know where in the game. The microphone placement was also very nice. no need to move it when you sneak a drink or bite inbetween kills.
Cons: Very poor quality sound controls. All low grade plastic. I was very careful with these and they still stopped working. the volume knob controller on my set is what went defective. I didnt have a problem with the headset piece at all.
Other Thoughts: Going to see if the warranty process really works. I have only had these for 3 months.

Nice while working!
Pros: Great sound with X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro.
Cons: Very cheaply made! - Earpiece broke after about 2 weeks of use. Had to super glue the heck out of it to get it to hold. - All the sudden now there is no power at all through the headset! What a waist of money! Go else where looking for a good set of earphones for gaming .
Other Thoughts: Kinyo KY-100 I have lasted for 5yrs now and had to go back to them. The only thing bad with these headphones the pick up cell phones static and radiate really loud. So gets pretty annoying after a while. It's why I finally tried another set of 5.1 headphones.
Manufacturer Response:Your earphone should not been breaking after 2 weeks of use and sorry about any issues you have had with the headphones. If you have only had the headset for 2 weeks at the time of the issue, it would be covered under the 1 year warranty. Any users having any issues with their units should contact our support team at www.razersupport.com and we will be happy to help you out. Obviously we cannot warranty any issues caused by excessive dropping, smashing or pulling. This may not be the case here, but just noting it. Best regards, Razer Support www.razersupport.com

Great headphones - Razer support issue
Pros: Clear, crisp sound. Very comfy cushion.
Cons: Razer will not allow you to order or give information on replacement parts (mic / hd-dai to rca adapter), unless it specifically warranty. Don't lose those parts.
Would give 5 stars if they would allow you to purchase or direct to where you can get the parts replaced.
Other Thoughts: If you run dvd audio calibration software with the headphones, it can make a big difference in audio quality, just like you would calibreationg an entertainment system.

Why So Many Complaints?
Pros: Amazing sound clarity with a great bass. Perfect for gaming, watching movies, or just everyday use.
Cons: The volume knob is a little stiff, but that will ease up over time.
Other Thoughts: I purchased this headset with all the bad reviews in my mind. Some people said it was the best headset they ever owned, while others stated it was the worst. I have no idea why so many people gave it a bad review. These things are AWESOME! I was previously using the Sennheiser PC-350's (apparently Sennheiser makes the best), but they broke after the first month of using them. I use these for gaming, but mostly as a speaker replacement. I think that the people who gave it a bad review are using onboard sound. WHY PURCHASE A $150 HEADSET AND USE ONBOARD AUDIO? It makes no sense to me. I am using the Auzen X-Fi Prelude sound card, and that card really brings this headset to life. I am hearing things I never heard before. And as far as the build quality goes? Yes. This headset is delicate. But as long as you don't throw it off a 10 story building, you will be fine. If you are looking for a great headset for gaming, watching movies, or just listening to music, you have met your match!

Nice headphones if they hold up.
Pros: Great comfort. Incredible sound once adjusted right. Nice mic size/positioning/removability
Cons: Cheaply made/manufactured. Paint chips. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Wouldnt do a THING for me because i did not purchase the headphones directly from RAZER and did not have a reciept.
Other Thoughts: I recieved the headphones as a gift in OCT of 07. Used them for ~6 months, combined with an XPS 420 and i actually purchased a BARRACUDA sound card to mate with the headphones specifically for the interface/adjustability that the stock sound card didnt offer. The mic started working a bit after 6 months, so after some troubleshooting, it turned out to be the connection on the unit itself. May have dislodged itself from dropping/moving/etc but headphones like that should be designed to take a bit of abuse. Contacted RAZER directly and apparently they do not repair their units. They will either send you a new one if it is warranteed or you are out of luck on a set of $100+ headphones. After emails back and forth, they would not do anything for me and being the DIYer that i am, took the headphones apart. THE WIRES ARE HELD TOGETHER WITH MASKING TAPE. NO LIE. The soldering jobs were shoddy at best. Sub-par quality in my oppinion.

Real Nice!!
Pros: Great crisp sound, nice bass, mic works awsome. Sweet blue lighting.Comfortable for medium periods of use. Volume control that u can adjust center, rear, front, bass and u can even shut the lighting off if desired.Whats not to like?!! Owned for 2yrs of hard gaming! Same set!!
Cons: Its true that its built a little flimsey, but if u take care of them they wont break. After 2 yrs of hardcore gaming i finally dropped them and the plastic piece snapped. But not one prob. with the speakers
Other Thoughts: Just handle with kid gloves and you'll have a great product!! Also they do send u a software cd...but ive used it without installing and it works great.Just make sure you have a decent quality sound card with good drivers for full potencial for these headsets. But most of all New Egg ROCKS!!! Thanks guys!!:)

Great headset
Pros: Sound is crisp and clear. I can hear great even when people are talking around me, works great for LAN environment.
Cons: Get it if you get a warranty. I have probably returned it 3 times now. Its hit and miss really, just hope you get a good one. With peripherals, its always good to get a warranty. Accidents happen.
Other Thoughts: Works great with my Razer Barracuda AC-1 sound card. HD-DAI is a great input, it has a lot of potential.

fragile!
Pros: This headset had good sound and bass. The mic was incredibly clear. I used it with the Razer soundcard. It was good while it lasted..since I bought it for $60.
Cons: The headset can break easily! When I was merely trying to take the headset off, the left side of headphones broke off.

Failed to produce a quality product
Pros: The headset was great when I first received it. The sound was great so was the base.
Cons: After a few weeks the Mic died. They refuse to replace or let me buy another one.
The customer service agent I spoke with about the driver situation with Vista 64bit was a hassle. The actual tech said he didn't know anything about computers... I got this out of him after speaking to him after a few minutes. I am in the same field as the HD individual I spoke with but we have know what we are supporting.
Just recently the headphones have stopped working. The paint on the unit is coming off.
This all happened in 6 months.
I will not be buying anything from Razer again.. they're a fad and their products are 10x less durable than a Logitech.
Other Thoughts: piece of xxxx and so are their other items.............
get over the look ...

short term awesomeness
Pros: Awesome sound. Gives you great enemy awareness. You can here almost exactly where the enemy is. Hands down, best gaming headset for sound. Very comfortable. Easy to wear for those 4-5 hour gaming marathons.
Cons: I'm on my second pair and once again, its shorting out. Spend over $100 for a headset that only lasts about 3 months. They seem to be well built, but this is the second pair that has had the same problem. They short out where the wire enters each ear cuff.
Other Thoughts: If Razor would fix this problem, they would be the very best, hands down. But until they do, its a waste of money.

Great Headphones
Pros: Incredible sound. The precision afforded by the surround sound is incredible. I have on multiple occasions wasted people sneaking up behind me in fps games, without ever even really seeing them. The also have amazing clarity when listening to music.
Extremely comfortable for me at least, the large ear cups and soft surrounds keep the headphones totally off my ears, resulting in 0 discomfort, ever. Also, the adjustable top band allows for a variety of head sizes and shapes.
Very high quality construction the fit and finish on the headphones is top notch.
Cons: Price: I suppose if you buy these retail you pay for all these great features.
size: This has not been an issue for me, but it is the cause of most of the negative reviews I have read concerning durability and comfort. These are large, relatively heavy headphones. Because of their size and design, they are more delicate than many smaller headphones. However, this is nothing that cant be solved by storing them in a safe location. As for the comfort issue however, little can be done if the headphones don't fit you. They are heavy, and it will be uncomfortable. (you also would have to look like dumbo, because the ear cups are friggin huge.)
Other Thoughts: I paid a total of 40$ for these headphones brand new, and they are the greatest computer peripheral I have ever owned. Had I paid 3 times that, my enthusiasm might have been curbed a little.

Barracuda? or fish out of water
Pros: Initially okay. Surround phones with the mic attached. Soooo comfortable! you can put the mic on ether side Ive had some that the mike comes down from the right and it drives me nuts.
Cons: My first thought after receiving was " hundred+ dollar phones I better get the latest driver/firmware " none. The things would not work in 5.1, it would feed the wrong channel to the surround channel in 7.1 and leave one channel out. Mic was only able to here me when I yelled like I was back in Ar Ramadi. (yes i adjusted the gain and filter). In the headset's third week it is totally inoperable just broken no leds no sound nothing, dead. buyer beware!
Other Thoughts: I have there keyboard and it a 4-5 star preformer. The headset is trash. I went back to my stereo mic'ed phones that are 5 years old and held together with tape!

Very Meh
Pros: Well they look cool and the volume controller is a nice inovation and they are very comfortable headphones. They have just enough squeez to let you know that they are on but not enough to give some one a head ache.
Cons: Very cheap looking design, completely covered in plastic without a trace of even aluminum support anywher. The LED's are ok but a bit unnesicary, the sound quality is meh. Im sure Razer would say to buy their sound card, but for the price its going for...I think ill keep my 30$ one instead. Deffinatly afraid that these things will break because there is not enough metal support. The elastic band was just a cheap idea, most nice headphones are adjustable and dont sub in a piece of elastic to one size fits all.
Other Thoughts: These headphones are probably only worth about half of what they are selling for, im disapointed in these for the SQ and the cheap design and construction. I honestly would not buy these again, there are other brands that have much better designs and SQ. Also no instructions come with these so make sure to plug in the USB AND the 1/8inch audio jacks to your sound card...otherwise these things wont work.

Brilliant!!
Pros: As my wife would say "pretty blue lights", these things are LOUD! I use it in conjunction with the Razer AC-1 sound card, keep in mind it takes some tweaking to get these properly configured. I loaded up WoW and wasn't very impressed at first, that is until I realized I needed to tweak the internal game settings. I changed my sound source over to the Razer AC-1 and WHOA!
I was stunned, these things are Amazing, when having them on I was totally immersed in sound, my wife couldn't hear the sound from 2 feet away, these are perfect for late-night grinding or fragging, GREAT JOB AGAIN RAZER!
Cons: After some time you feel the pressure on your head, ears start to sweat after an hour or so of use.
Other Thoughts: The blue lights adds a nice touch, especially since it all matches my Tarantula, Diamondback, razer pro pad and AC-1, HP-1.
I am a true Razer fanboy!

cool headphones
Pros: i dont know what every one else is talking about but these headphones are really great. they arent cheap like some people said, i dont know why they said that. i dont have the razer soundcard and they still sound fine.
Cons: big headphones?
Other Thoughts: i dont like how they are designed to fit into the sound card and have a converter for those who just plug it into a normal soundcard and usb. cords plenty long though so it wasnt a big deal

Only So-So
Pros: Comfortable - Good sound - Microphone seems to work all right in games.
Cons: As all recent comments have mentioned, durability on these SUCKS! Mine broke in the middle of me taking them off - that's all, just removing them from my head. More and more pieces started falling off as I tried to glue the original parts back together. Also, to use the stereo inputs, I have to disconnect my speakers, and its a hassle to do that. All those inputs - and it still needs a USB hub! I'm assuming that its for power purposes, possibly to power the bass and the too-bright blue lights. The lights stay on even after I turn my computer off. The on/off switch is weird - at first, I thought it was broke. Can be uncomfortable in long term gaming/movie watching sessions.
Other Thoughts: I bought these as a replacement for a much cheaper pair of headphones that died on me. I bought them from the same site that (I think) all the recent posters have. They were a good deal, but seriously - these things need to be redesigned. The part that broke is the upper part of the swivel, the part between the earphone itself, and the part that goes over your head. Textured and painted to look like metal, but its surprisingly thin plastic. I'm thinking about using some sheet metal to remake these guys.

Garbage
Pros: Soft ear muffs
Cons: Falls apart on contact.
Not much more can be said about these that hasn't been posted here. I had never seen plastic snap so easily before.
Other Thoughts: I have 2 Razer mice one (the cheap one) works great so I bought their to of the line mouse and headphones both are now in the garbage.
I don't think I will ever buy another Razer product again.

Not Good for FPS games
Pros: Very good sound quality
Cons: Not comfortable at all ive had these for 2 weeks and the left one has already blown out on me, if you are looking for a good FPS Headset this is not it.
Other Thoughts: The led's and stuff are cool but the quality isnt where it should be for the price. I bought the headset and sounds card for this and it was not worth it at all. Look at the steel series for a better headset and its cheaper

Pros: Great sound and fairly comfortable.
Cons: My two largest complaints are as follows:
1) These headphones are impossible to wear for more than an hour. I find it impossible to finish a movie with these on. When you first put them on, they're very light and comfy. Even after just 30 minutes of wear, you start feeling the pressure. A friend of mine bought this exact set and complained of the same thing only days after buying his. 2) The microphone is removable and very small. I lost it after my first LAN party. This seems to be a new trend in headsets. I don't know why, it just means that it can be lost.
Various complaints below:
Other Thoughts: While these are surround sound, I don't notice much of a difference than when using regular stereo headsets. All this means to me is that it takes much longer to plug in the various cords. Of course, the in-line sound card takes up a USB slot, and that is definitely a con when you only have four available USB ports.
I purchased it from another website (the kind that only sells one product per day at a very low price) for less than half the price listed here. I still don't know if it was worth it. I've purchased headsets at 1/3 of the price and was more pleased with them.
I'm not sure if I would recommend them to everyone, as the sound is good, but not *that* good.

Nice
Pros: Nice crisp, clear sound. Comfortable pads. Good mic that stays out of my face.
Cons: Led's of right side of headset and on the volume control went out. Right side went out too, only receiving sound to left side after about 6months of use. Bought from Best buy and it looked as if they had probably been returned from another customer as the cord was semi melted together (not bothering me too much as the cord doesnt provide much noise protection, and didnt expose the individual wires contained within).
Other Thoughts: Dis-assembled the volume control to check for burnt or shorted components, or solder bridges when the headphones stopped working. Didnt see or smell anything wrong, but I did notice that there were 3 exposed wires from the cord that were NOT isolated. They were just hanging. When I reassembled the headphones I moved the wires away from each other to prevent shorts and anything bad happening from faulty voltage levels. Magically, my headphones have worked since. Dont want to say that was my problem as I didnt, and still havent tested anything.. but they work now, and they work wonderfully.
Ive read alot about problems of these headphones, heres a little help. Your LED's shouldnt go out unless you apply more than .7v across them (or have a bad led). Id look for a short or a burnt resistor in your circuit. The resistor should be in series with your LED. But thats my opinion. Good luck, and enjoy!
