Great ODD
Pros: Bought two of these, one for my HTPC and one for my main box. SATA connection is very nice, far less clutter than using PATA ribbons. Burns DVDs and CDs very quick, hasn't produced one coaster yet after ~100 cd burns and ~40 dvd burns. Best drive I've bought in a long time, most of the drives I've bought in the past couple of years die after a month or two (LG, Samsung) but these keep rockin. It's only audible when spinning up, but who cares it only does that when you insert a disk, boot up, or access the drive. My machine is very quiet and I barely hear the drive spinning up with it under my desk. Maybe all the complainants have their towers on their desks. Or maybe they're too uptight.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: Haven't used the Lightscribe option.

Just. Good.
Pros: Great drive. Reads and writes well. Great price.
Cons: Tried Lightscribe ONCE. Did not come out right AT ALL. Do not know what is wrong and I did not try to fix the problem yet. It has been about 5 months since this event. Probably firmware problems or worse yet, hardware problems that I have yet to uncover.

Great, but burning could be quieter
Pros: Very fast, whisper quiet during DVD playback. So far seems to have the same Lite-On performance and quality I've come to expect over my last few drives.
Cons: Very, very loud while burning and for initial disc spin-up. But as stated in the pros, at least it's quiet for DVD playback.
Other Thoughts: Don't have any LightScribe media so I haven't tried that function yet.
Finally replaced my IDE burner, gotta love the small SATA data cable compared to bulky IDE!

Love Liteon
Pros: Fluid operation, solid performance. Awesome price. Sata connections.
Cons: Read operation could be a bit faster, usually inherant in burners in general.
Other Thoughts: These and all Liteon SATA models don't have legacy power connectors, FYI

Burners are Burners
Pros: It burns quickly and still works, not much more needed outta drives anymore.
Cons: Can be on the loud side but part of it might be that it's in a Antec mini-cube case.

I like the drive and love lightscribe
Pros: Great drive.
Cons: Can't use this drive to install Vista, it doesn't seem to like SATA DVD drives, it will start but during the initial set up it says it can't find the drive it booted from ;)

Pros: Works fine
Cons: Sounds like an airplane when you insert a disc. Makes it sound cheap.
Other Thoughts: I have other Lite-On drives that work great and are very quiet. I'll live with the noise. Haven't tried Lightscribe on this yet.

Fits the bill
Pros: Idles quick, so there's no noise or vibration when disc not in use. Read's everything I've thrown at it. While watching DVDs, drive is quiet. Price and free shipping can't be beat.
Cons: Inserting certain SecureRom discs (Crysis for instance) make the drive sound like something inside is crashing together loudly.
Occasionally, when discs spin down it sound's like they are wobbly on the spindle. If it lasts the 2 year warranty period, I'll be satisfied at this price.
Other Thoughts: I just use it to install programs, occasional rippings and burnings, and watching DVDs.

Lite-On coaster creator
Pros: It's black and the door opens eagerly to accept new unfinished coasters. It also has a brilliant green LED. All in all, .45 worth of excellent working parts from China/Indonesia/Malaysia.
Cons: Takes quite a while more (2-3 mins) to create a coaster with the optional non-functional lightscribe feature. :(
Other Thoughts: Newegg is sending me another coaster creator as we speak. Newegg rocks. Lite-On? This is my first product from them and I'm not too impressed. In case you're wondering, the firmware is at the current level.

Noisy!
Pros: Fast speeds.
Cons: Really loud audible noise when spinning CD's compared to all my other drives. I removed this drive from my HTPC and put it in my noisy desktop where I don't care how loud it is.

The low down
Pros: Cheap, fast, quiet, black, sata. Burn 4.2gb DVD in 4 minutes.
Cons: OEM, i know but i would have liked a retail version. there prolly is one but it is kind of hard to decide which one it was.
Other Thoughts: Meh

Problems reading DVD-RW after burning
Pros: Cheap, fast, black, SATA.
Cons: I have a Memorex DVD-RW disc that I usually burn with TV shows to watch on my set-top DVD player and the drive will burn these fine when the disc is blank. The problem I have is once it is burnt the drive won't read it!! I have to pop it in my old DVR-108 to erase the darn thing. I have the latest firmware. I don't know if it is an issue with the disc or what but it is really annoying.
Other Thoughts: If anyone has suggestions how I can get my drive to recognize the disc after I burn it please let me know.

Not as good as the reviews would indicate.
Pros: I like the brand, it's attractive and fast and cheap. Reviews were very favorable on another site.
Cons: Had some failures with this drive, NEWEGG RMA'd and refund with zero problems. Many write errors, seemingly spontaneously on several platforms (I build PCs obviously). An attractive drive but not one I trust implicitly, replaced with an ASUS DRW-2014. Much quieter.
Other Thoughts: For the price not a bad deal, and Newegg does have your back, but for the power user, check your options first.

Reliability issues?
Pros: Quiet video DVD playback. Lite-On drives can change their region at will unlimited times with a simple software utility.
Cons: Bought two drives. One of them stopped being able to read or write to CDs after 6 months, though it is otherwise fully functional with DVDs.
Other Thoughts: Drives installed on Vista systems. Personally, the quietest video DVD playback performance I've ever heard (or not heard rather!). Other reviews say operation is noisy so YMMV. Key points are that it is cheap and region resettable, so get if these qualities appeal to you.

its ok
Pros: it does the job. burns cds. havent tested the dvd or lightscribe just yet.
Cons: like everyone else has said it is loud. when i place a game discs like crysis, COD 4, or assassin's creed the drive will "click" (just on games) to describe it - sounds like the drive is bigger than the disc and its banging on the edges while spinning. It does stop after the game has loaded but it worries me that it does it every time with out fail.
Other Thoughts: it came simply wrapped in pink bubble wrapping (OEM)

Lasted for a while... But then...
Pros: SATA...
Cons: LOUD! This thing sounded like a jet engine when I would start burning a DVD...
Other Thoughts: The open/close button stopped working after about 1 year... Then it started buring coasters a few weeks after that...

Nice drive, with a twist
Pros: Works Great in my build, and it does it all(exept of course blueray) and it looks good to boot!!
Cons: when it winds up it can be a little loud, I thought everyone was just overreacting, and some were, but its louder than my old CD burner. not a truck like some mention...
Other Thoughts: I wanted the new truck too!!!

Pros: good burner. 15/15 dvds. 3/3 cds. lightscribe was good too, 4/4. noise is not as loud as people say.
Cons: uhm, doesnt turn bread into toast?!

Loud? Your smoking crack.
Pros: Works great and is quite. You people that say, "It's loud" are smoking some serious crack. I used to have the Asus SATA burner but that one kept screwing up with bad burns for some reason. Was out the 30-day warranty so I couldn't return and get the LITE-ON.
Cons: I switched from the Asus SATA burner but that one kept screwing up with bad burns for some reason. Was out the 30-day warranty so I couldn't return and get the LITE-ON.
Other Thoughts: Pioneer 111D or Pioneer 112D with SATA :)

First/Last time buyer
Pros: Works great with DVD+R media, Cheap, Worked at one point with DVD-R, didn't notice the noise issue that others mention in other reviews
Cons: Stopped working after 20 DVD-R burns now every burning software displays "no sense information" while burning DVD-R Two RMAs result in the same deal (drive was "repaired" both times I believe)
Other Thoughts: I've tried three different DVD-R media that work with every other drive I've owned. Media that used to work with my drive no longer work. I have learned my lesson on buying cheap drives

Great Drive, Great Price
Pros: Great drive, especially for the price. The drive is quiet in normal ops. The sound does go up when burning, but, I was burning at a high speed too (for me - 16x DVD). Have burned cd's and dvd's with no coasters. Have 2 of them in one system, a single in another system. No problems burning on any drives.
Cons: None. I know some say it's louder than "normal" when burning. In *my* experience, it's still quieter than prior drives and at higher speeds.
Other Thoughts: Haven't tried burning on both drives at once in the first box. It's got a quad core cpu, but I don't know about the 7,200 rpm hard drive keeping up, especially at high speeds. Have burned cd's across the drives with no problems, though.

Pros: One of the faster optical drives out there, decided to go with Lite-On cause I heard good things, so far not bad
Cons: Had some issues where certain CD's / DVD's would not play / Burn, found that I needed to go to Lite-On website and get latest firmware, since then no issues
Other Thoughts: New Egg is the Best, tried others and its not the same

Well, it works.
Pros: It works.
Cons: It is so loud!! Didn't realize I was getting a lawnmower installed in my new pc. I have never heard an optical drive as loud as this in my life.
Other Thoughts: I'll stay away from Liteon's in the future if the noise this one puts out when just READING a disc sounds like a jet getting ready to take off.

GREAT BUY AT THIS PRICE
Pros: Come on guys For under $30 this is great. Good for burning movies. The only way to know if its "GREAT" is to take it to the long haul or use it daily. Again under $30 you get what you pay for. But a HP if you want to spend $100. I rather have 3 of these and still be cheeper. 3 will outlast an HP all day.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Sometimes it smells like dead skunk when under heavy load. Its almost as if they rail Moose with it before they pack it. Very odd yet i like it ruff baby.

I am not so sure.
Pros: Well I am not sure if i am using 3/GBS. I have a newer model with no 1.5/GBS tab so there is nothing to remove. Vista ranks it 5.9 yet it shows up as a ATA 133 speed. I need to benchmark it before I really get into it.
BTW: The heatsink built into the drive is A++. Very cold with a 120mm fan hitting it. All drives should have this!
Cons: None...Its now where near as loud as any of these reviewers make it seem. Its a Gaming HD, All machines are heavy air or water cooled. A good size fan will drown out all the HD noise.
Other Thoughts: MY MACHINE:: QX9650,Intel X48BT2,OCZ Extreme Intel 4G 12800,Ultra 8800,Ultra 1000Psu, Antec 900 case, Raptor 74G. Air with NO O/C Yet.

Very Happy
Pros: Burned about 30 dvd-r discs right after I installed it, not one issue. Full discs at 5 mins-7 mins each while I was multitasking a bunch of other apps. Lightscribe is a nice touch when when making discs like wedding DVDs.
Cons: Didn't come with screws. I know it's OEM but still... I lost my screw container so I had to fish some out of another computer.
Other Thoughts: Lightscribe at full quality takes 40 mins but then so do all drives. You can burn a simple text label in less than 4 mins using the free lightscribe software. The new nero makes nice full disc graphic labels. Nero 8.1.1.0 has a glitch where the background image doesnt print. Drove me nuts for hours. Upgrade to 8.3 to fix this.

Not so good
Pros: price, delivery
Cons: Burning 2 mb files on cd-rw took it at list 4min!!!!! (without counting erase.) I tried on few applications with the same results. After reading all of the good and bad review I made up my mind to give a tray this things. But now I think about to return it.

Good drive
Pros: A low cost SATA burner, good quality drive as I've always experienced with LITE-ON. I haven't had a chance to burn anything LightScribe related, but this drive does it's job well.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I would recommend this drive to anyone!

Easy as Pie
Pros: Plug and play in both Ubuntu and Windows. In Ubuntu, you don't even need to install burning software. The default installation of a recent version will take care of everything.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: At this point, you might want to think about getting a Blu-Ray burner if you're building a new system. But if you have no need for that, this is the drive for you.

good lightscribe burner
Pros: Low Price, lightscribe disc labeling, SATA interface
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I have owned both the HP and this Lite-ON lightscribe unit. No noticable difference in performance between the two and the LITE-ON drive costs much less.

A good drive second time around
Pros: this drive is was on sale at the time of purchase, i think i got free shipping on it. The drive worked great for 3 months, i was burning DVD's like crazy, then it became pickey.
Cons: I had to return it after 3 months because the drive just became pickey and then wouldn't read CD's at all. it just failed!
Other Thoughts: it's a chap drive and for the price I paid I expected to get what i paid for. they just don't make drived like they used too. I hear a lot of people spending $50 or $60 on a drive at staples and then still having a high return rate. Newegg rocks though it took 1 day in their posession to figure out it was defective, and they sent a new one the verry next day. it's all good now.

Another great Lite-On product
Pros: Fast enough and reasonably cheap. Great lite-on reliability
Cons: Like all lite-on drives it howls like a banshee although it isn't as loud as my last Lite-On
hey I would rather have reliability and speed than low noise and low reliability
Other Thoughts: Did not fit in MiniP180 case no matter where or how I tried to put it in. I ended up having to drill new holes in the drive rails.
I replaced the front bezel with a white one that came with a retail lite-on drive so it would match the white case. Doing that though was very difficult.

I like it.
Pros: It's fast, reliable, and it has Lightscribe.
Cons: Some discs make a clicking noise. I'm not sure what it is, but every time I put Crysis in, it'll click three times. Fairly loud, too.
Other Thoughts: Overall, it's good. I don't regret buying it.

Pros: Works well in what (was) my brand new build. Fast dvd recording and lightscribe at a good price. Still a very valid option now.
Cons: None

Cool Drive
Pros: No issues with this drive. Reads everything I feed it, and burns without any issues. It is quiet for my taste and integrates well with burning soft (Nero and PowerISO). SATA cables are way smaller than IDE, lol.
Cons: Had to upgrade firmware to overcome Battlefield 2 disc security problems. Disc had to be reloaded into the drive each time game started. New firmware made it go away.

Great Burner
Pros: Burner works great and hasn't failed on me yet. Burns movies fast.
Cons: says DVD-RAM and when i put in a blank DVD it comes up in auto play as Blank CD, but nero and all the other variety of DVD burning software will see it for what it is and burn accordingly.
Other Thoughts: Great product would buy again and recommend.

Not the best...
Pros: Cheap, name brand, burns well, has Litescribe, uses a SATA interface for convenience.
Cons: Loud when ripping or burning. The read quality is also terrible. Any microscopic nick in an audio CD and there's a good chance winamp will hang up on songs or skip around constantly. My car's Pioneer 490IB and my OEM HP Litescribe DVDRW from my other computer read much more reliably than this does. It's equally bad at reading DVD movies.
Other Thoughts: Well...I definitely wouldn't buy this again. There are other brands that have burners in the $30 range that perform better than this. My 4 year old NEC even destroys this thing...

disc hangs up in drive when ejected
Pros: Fast, quiet, sata and no issues being recognized by Vista.
Cons: When ejecting a disc from my top DVD drive, 75% of the time the disc gets hung up againt the top of the drive rather than sitting correctly in the disk drawer. It hasn't damaged any discs yet but I'd prefer it not happen. I don't know if this is common with all DVD drives but I had a Lite-on in my previous machine and it would do the exact same time.

Pros: Easy setup, fast. Works well with XP and Vista. No compatibilty issues. Inexpensive.
Cons: Makes just a little noise when burning.
Other Thoughts: This drive works very well, I have burned at least a dozen DVDs so far (Single and Dual layer). It has operated flawlessly. I upgraded the firmware right after I installed it. It came with firmware BL05, updated to BL06. I've used Ridata and Verbatim DVDs. No coasters.

Great Drive
Pros: Fast reading/burning, decently priced, comes with lightscribe for lightscribe enabled CDs, reads every CDs/DVDs, relatively quiet.
Cons: Causes a loud and annoying clicking sound when running certain DVDs like the Crysis video game. This can be fixed easily (read "Other thoughts"), so it's not really a big enough con to remove an egg.
Other Thoughts: Crysis issue: Some people with Lite-On drives may experience a loud and annoying clicking sound when reading Crysis on this drive. To fix this, go to Lite-On's webpage and download the firmware for this model. It's a quick fix and gets rid of the annoying clicking sound immediately. The fix will upgrade the model's LH-20A1L-05's firmware to LH-20A1L-06. I would put the firmware's link here, but NewEgg doesn't allow Hyperlinks or URLs, so just google up Lite-ON IT Corporation's webpage.

Just OK
Pros: It is a cheap drive that reads/writes a disc and produces a decent lightscribe image.
Cons: If this drive has an issue reading a disc my entire system will restart. I successfully upgraded the bios, but the issue still remains.

It's noisy!
Pros: Fast drive and super cheap! I can't believe how cheap these drives have become!
Easy to install.
Cons: It's very loud. In fact, it's the loudest part of my system.
When this thing start to load a disc, it hits a certain speed which resonates something within the drive to make a loud buzzing noise. It's irritating to say the least.
Other Thoughts: Luckily for the cost, I might replace it later.
I'm not one of those people that is easily irritated by noise. This unit has got me though. I have 7 fans total in my system and even with those at full blast, I can easily hear the CD drive over all of it.
Other than that though, it works.

Pretty good/some issues
Pros: Cheap-DL+lightscribe affordable!
Cons: Sometimes loud/vibration oh well......
Other Thoughts: For the money, incredible value. I mean, I remember when a 1x cd burner was $900.00 retail! So stop with the b****'in. Yes- it sounds like a small airplane is taking off inside the case sometimes, and after many 100% complete burns with no coasters I had to re-install the firmware (BL06) to correct long burn time (buffer issues). But after that, this thing still rocks. No issues with most media. I Don't use the lightscibe (standard blue sharpie since, who's got time?) Newegg rocks with shipping as always..............

Can't Recommend
Pros: Inexpensive drive as are most Lite-On, a name I normally respect
Cons: Drive arrived defective, giving multiple, slow read and no ability to write correctly. All cds/dvds of different formats burn incorrectly, and Light Scribe does not function. Lite On does not support drivers for this device. Tested under Windows Vista OS.
Other Thoughts: It possibly may be due to manufactures defect, but if their was damage to laser in shipping it wouldn't read at all.

Could be better
Pros: This drive is really fast, sleek, and black. And it makes those crazy expensive LightScribe discs.
Cons: It is VERY loud. I don't know if it's because I put the drive in the top slot and it's hitting something, or what...just reading a CD is pretty obnoxious.
Other Thoughts: Maybe I should have listened to other reviewers. I didn't know it would be that loud.

Not Good...
Pros: Very quite while reading DVD's.
Cons: Stopped working after just one year. When I boot up my computer, it makes strange noises. Very loud while using CD's.
Other Thoughts: Don't waste your money on this. Buy a better quality (higher priced isn't always better) drive for your PC.

Cons: ........ um it lasted only 4 months. then stopped. no warning, just refused to accept power.
Other Thoughts: it cost me 29.99 to buy, and they hit me with 10 bucks in shipping to swap it..... thats not worth it. this next one quits, ill just burn it and move on to a better drive.

Pros: Plugged it in and away it went. Does all it is supposed to. No defects. relatively silent
Cons: The usual hoops that come with using SATA. None too bad though.

Pros: Quick burning. Lightscribe
Cons: I'm the kinda guy who cranks up multiple case fans all the way, and even I will complain that this thing is LOUD when it spins up a disk
Other Thoughts: Pie

Great drive
Pros: Very good and stable drive, no write or read errors so far. Make sure you upgrade to latest firmware drive ships with the 5th release when the 6th is out. That will correct all if any issues.
Cons: A little on the loud side when spinning up.

Fast
Pros: Very nice drive, always been a fan of LITE-On products, have yet to have one fail on me. This drives read/right speed is pretty amazing, I also like the fact that I don't need to use molex connectors anymore or IDE cables. Does what its supposed to do.
Cons: Loud when reading, but who cares when its done in a fraction of the time.
Other Thoughts: Great for new system builds, great price, light scribe is cool,

Good burner
Pros: I needed a cheaper dvd drive b/c my old one went bad. IT runs fast, I don't think its too loud.
Cons: No software or cords.
Other Thoughts: My case only allows me to put screws in one side, that may decrease the life of my drive and make it more noisy.
