Firmware fix makes it a good drive
Pros: Does exactly what you expect it to do. It has read every DVD I've put in it, and so far has never given me a bad burn.
Cons: As stated many times before, the factory firmware comes with an auto-launching software called Bluebirds, which is essentially spyware. It can be removed with a firmware update, but that seems like an unnecessary step to have to take with a brand new drive.
Other Thoughts: LG has released a firmware update (since I can't post a URL here, just Google "LG+Bluebirds", and it should be the first result) that removes the Bluebirds software.

Actually can work
Pros: Nice looking and works well.
Cons: Item comes without cables or software. This should be clear but isn't. Also the Blubird software referenced in other reviews can be removed with a tool from LG. The address for the tool is. http://www.lge.com/us/support/product/support-product-profile.jsp?customerModelCode=GH22NS50&initialTab=documents&targetPage=support-product-profile Just download the update file for Bluebird removal. There is also a new firmware update for working with Windows 7 available
Other Thoughts: I really wish the product description had been better but over all I'm happy with my pruchase.

Stick to Phones LG
Pros: Looks like what I bought
Cons: 3 Things:
1 Doesn't work unless special steps taken to trick the BIOS from SATA to IDE
2 Comes with adWare on the Flash Memory of the Burner
3 more Hassle than it was worth. you would have to pay me 20 dollars to use this
Other Thoughts: Stick to LG phones

nice
Pros: none of that spyware on here that everybody is talking about, i guess they got rid of it.
was the cheapest drive available at the time.
Cons: of course samsungs went on sale a day after i got it for 5 bucks less like always.
Other Thoughts: whats with the ddr2 prices? i build ddr2 computers for poor people, and now when they want more than 2gb of ram, they gotta pay with blood.

The birds are dead
Pros: -Bluebirds is nothing -No errors or anomalies yet
Cons: -Remember that this is OEM - no cables or instructions included
Other Thoughts: I would like to address the Bluebird thing again. While I DID have Bluebirds on my drive, unlike many others, I received no popups to install anything or links to LG or annoyances of ANY kind. Bluebirds literally did nothing! I saw the icon in Windows where the drive would be but it's like somebody deactivated it. A trip to the LG website easily flashed it all the way away after, but don't forget to keep the disc tray open while you do it. Even if I did not remove it, I doubt it would be a problem. It reminded me of how in vaccines they tamper with viruses, so while it's technically there, it isn't going to do harm (though I don't really vaccines). Reading some of the negative reviews, they are quite extreme in nature. LG didn't know this was being done and it was a slip up, evidenced by the super easy fix on their part.
Don't read or write many discs but the ones I have done worked fine.
I like the price of this too, I think the bad publicity of Bluebirds knocked it down a bit.

WOW Guess I Was Lucky!
Pros: None of the LG drives that I received and installed had this "Bluebird" thing. I didn't install anything from the disc that came with it and I don't get anything when I close the drive door. Must have been certain ones or something.
Cons: None, they work great.
Other Thoughts: The only thing that I install with a DVD burner in the computers that I sell is the full retail version of Nero for my customers since it works so well. I never install anything that comes with the burners. Maybe that's a good thing?

Great buy
Pros: Cheap, fast, and quiet. Fits perfectly in the case. LG hasn't disappointed me ever.
Cons: No cables or screws, but it's OEM so make sure you have your own.
Other Thoughts: The newest revision no longer has that Bluebird adware so it is safe to buy. If you have an older one, you can download new firmware on LG's website to get rid of it.

Works as a dvd drive and has been fixed
Pros: It's a dvd drive that works out of the box....can't ask for more
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: I bought two of these drives a couple of days ago (yes even after reading the bluebird reviews)(I'm not afraid to do a flash :P) well I had everything ready to go when I started up the computer and lo and behold.....NO BLUEBIRD......so I opened and closed the drives, and have been doing so for the past hour thinking bluebird will pop up eventually...but it hasn't. So all I can think of is LG knew they messed up by putting the bluebird firmware on their drives and fixed it because mine have no hint of the firmware, and they work perfectly.
