Awesome Burner for the price
Pros: I purchased LG WH08LS20K model, but i believe this one is the same but retail instead of OEM (which is one i got). Anyways, verified burn optical quantum BD-R SL media @ 8x speeds. Verified burned media (movies) play in this PC drive & PS3's. Sata cable management, no IDE. Beast of a drive.
Cons: None as of yet. Though i have heard LGs customer service sucks. Hope I don't have to deal with them.
Other Thoughts: Google media mega mail, cheapest BD's online. $2.08/each. Didn't install the included software or anything on the disk that came with the drive. Drive is auto detected in windows 7 x64. All burns done in win 7 x64 as well. Drive works perfect in win 7 x64 all around. I use power dvd 9 for watching BD disks or WMP/VLC for files off HD.

Great product
Pros: Plays blu-ray movies with the included software perfectly on win. 7 64-bit. Upgraded the firmware to v2.0 and it runs bd-live functions properly.
Cons: None so far but I've not tested the burning as of yet.
Other Thoughts: The firmware auto updated to v2.0 but still could not play bd-live functions. I had to find and manually update the drive and now it works as it should.

LG Blu-Ray Drive has the blues!
Pros: Not a whole lot: plays CDs, can load DVD games, burns DVDs and CDs. So what, any decent drive will do this.
Cons: Lightscribe won't work at all: fails to recognize official HP Lightscribe DVD media. Won't reliably burn 50GB Blu-Ray DVD data disks. No help from LG through their official support portal. They ignore requests for help. I bought these drives specifically to backup my digital photos onto 50GB Blu-Rays. So I now have two useless drives and a pile of 50GB media that I am using as decorative items.
Other Thoughts: I sadly bought two of these in November 2009. Neither works. I've contacted LG but they just ignore my requests for help. I would stay away from these drives specifically because LG does not take customer support at all seriously. If you ever have an issue with their drives, you will be on your own if you get the same treatment I am getting. A waste of money. For what the drives actually do, I could have spent $27.99 for a non Blu-Ray drive instead of $199.99 for a Blu-Ray drive that won't deal with Blu-Ray and Lightscribe. I will try to RMA these drives, but I am not expecting to find it easy to get LG's attention in this process. They have yet to answer any of my requests.

Works perfectly so far.
Pros: Has been reliable and no coasters. Have not upgraded firmware - so far, no need. Its also quiet and looks nice. I also got some software which I am not using now but the PowerDVD that came with it worked fine.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: I have been using Verbatim 25gb 4x blank media. I am running Vista x64 with all MS patches. Plays well with DVDFab. So far I am very happy with my purchase.

Highly recommended!
Pros: got mine in a burner/OQ BD-R combo; recognized by Win 7 immediately; burns SL BD-R's (23 GB) under 13 min at 8x; very quiet.
Cons: relatively high price (I expect the price of BD burners will continue to fall as faster drives arrive); 8x is no longer the fastest (12x burners are already available); only so-so burn speed with DVD-R's (hang on to your DVD burner).
Other Thoughts: Newegg's spec is wrong--this drive has 4 MB, not 2 MB, buffer. Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase. This burner and those affordable OQ BD-R's finally make backing up Blu-ray movies practical.

Nice Burner
Pros: This drive is very nice. I burned a few BD-R's and no coasters. It will also burn most brands of 2x discs at 8x which is always nice. The software that came with it was ok, and Cyberlink gave out free updates to the programs (For limited time).
Cons: None

Windows & and Blue Ray
Pros: Just reading the comments. I am writing about blue ray and Win. 7 and not so much about LG. I have had my drive for a little over a year now. I have been using it on a system that I constantly upgrade and I have used the drive with XP home and Pro, Vista home premium both 32 and 64 bit. I have been playing with seven from the betas on to pre release candidate and now run seven ultimate 64 bit. The only piece of hardware that I have that has given NO trouble is the blue ray. Cyberlink software wasn't so hot but seven has constantly found the drive and it has always worked flawlessly.
Cons: Right now I run a Phenom 955 over clocked slightly to 3.45 gigs instead of the stock 3.2, 6 gigs of liquid cooled OCZ ddr3 1600 ram, the blue ray and another hp all in one drive, ATI 4890 video and Asus M4A78T-E board, vento case, and thermaltake big water liquid cooling
Other Thoughts: I would be interested in knowing how many have these issues. The firmware update seems more the culprit than Seven to me. Any other ideas?

Great recorder......so far
Pros: Works great so far. Plays BD's fine and I just made a perfect backup copy of one of my movies to a BD50 blank using DVDFab. This was on my Win7 PC and after taking the 2.0 firmware update. So far, so good. I should also mention that I bought the drive from Newegg at a good price (price has been creeping up as of late) and received it in 3 days.
Cons: None so far.

my 3rd one failed
Pros: they all worked... for awhile. Decent software
Cons: all 3 failed in Win 7 64 after 2-4 mos. Then one day out of the blue, each of them just stopped working. Not recognized by O/S. Wouldn't even open tray. Switching to Pioneer.

Decent
Pros: 8x burning, if it works. i have yet to burn a disk. I got mine for $149.99.
Cons: The face (bezel) is ugly. I don't understand why someone would place such an ugly design on a $200.00 drive.
Blue ray disks are still too expensive. The best price that you can find right now is about $2.70 per 25 GB single layer disk if you buy a 15 pack. I will pay $1.00 for a disk, but no more.
Other Thoughts: I was going to just buy a blue ray player for my TV. Instead, I built a media center PC and put this in it. I played some of "Taken." I have not burned data yet, but I hope to so so soon. I think that I will go with some quality Verbatim media.

Beware Firmware Update
Pros: Worked well out of the box on my new Gateway Windows 7.0 machine. Played Blu Ray movies fine. I never got around to trying to burn anything with it.
Cons: After a little over a month fwupdate found the 2.00 version of the firmware. I allowed it to update the firmware. A week or so later I rented a Blu Ray movie to watch. I pressed the eject button - no response. I looked in My Computer - it wasn't there. No sign of it in device manager either. I found a review on another big web retailer where the reviewer said that LG admitted there is a problem with the 2.00 firmware and allowed him to return it. I just off the phone with LG, I didn't have the serial number with me, so I will have to call back to complete the return process. My rep didn't admit to a problem with the firmware update as the reviewer on the other site mentioned. As a matter of fact, the person I spoke to said he didn't see how a firmware update could damage the drive. Riiight.
Other Thoughts: I was happy until the firmware update. If the drive is replaced/fixed without any cost to me then I will be happy again and raise me rating. Right now it looks like I have a $200 brick...

WH08LS20 Frustrations
Pros: Bought 2 of these in early December. One for my son and one for me. My son's was received 3 days after ordering and mine took 13 days. Quick install. Silent. Came with SATA Cable and Multi-Blu software. The LG firmware updater updated the firmware of both my LG drives. Excellent problems burning CD and DVDs.
Cons: Will not read or burns Blu-ray under Windows 7. Cyberlink software did not work. Tried the Cyberlink update for Windows 7 but that didn't help either. Purchased NERO 9 because it supports Blu-Ray for Windows 7. Unfortunately Blu-ray disks are still not recognized. This problem is the same for my son's drive.
Other Thoughts: LG products are normally very good. My other non-blu-ray LG drive has worked flawlessly. I don't think that both drives are broken so I'll continue to look for solutions. I have given 3 eggs because other than Blu-ray, it works very well.

Works
Pros: Works great for me.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: Since it's a SATA unit it causes HDD LED to light up on my case - but it's more of a problem with motherboard than with the drive. When I'm reading or writing optical disks the case HDD light stays on all the time which looks strange on a system with SSD RAID that boots Windows in under 17 seconds and can push 600MB+/sec

Works Great
Pros: Works great out of the box. Picks up a BD quickly. Haven't tried the buring part yet, but will when my discs are shipped.
Cons: PowerDVD software- it's alright, but too many extras. A small compact program would have been better.

Problems with Win7
Pros: Writes Bluray and can be used in a Vantec NexStar DX 5.25in Enclosure, USB 2.0, eSATA so it can be used with a laptop. I still haven't figured our how to burn my HD home movies to BD-RE so that my PS3 can read them. Overall a good drive.
Cons: The disk that comes with the drive does not download the firmware necessary for the drive to work with Windows 7 and the USA and Canada LG sites do not have this firmware. You can get it on the au.lgservice.com website (yes, that is the Australia website). Search under DVD writers for WH08LS20. After the update, Windows 7 recognizes it as a BDRE drive instead of a CD-ROM. Please don't hold me responsible if you brick your drive with the new firmware...
Other Thoughts: Hope this information is helpful to everyone.

Pros: LG make excellent products
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: To Vissy, try Googling and you will find firmware although you will have to use Google Translate on the webpage.
To quote what I found: you have to read the LG forum firmware announce thread. Goto http://www.lgservice.co.kr/SearchSddr.laf and type BH08 in the search field. The latest BH08 2.00 firmware contains these drive ids: Code:BD-RE BH08NS20 BD-RE BH08LS20 BD-RE WH08LS20 BD-RE BH20L BD-RE BE08LU20 BD-RE WE08LU20 BD-RE BH20N BD-RE BH20F so the WH08LS20 is probably just a normal BH08 drive.

Pros: 2nd drive works great.
Cons: first drive died after a few days of use. made an awful clicking noise, and staled my computer up anytime i tried to access it.
Other Thoughts: Ordered this drive and a few days later it broke, newegg wouldn't let me RMA it because I threw away the box it came in (that is more my fault because their RMA policy is very clearly spelled out) Had to send it to the manufacturer, the new one is great, but it was very annoying to go through all the trouble when the first one should have worked, but I guess these things happen, took off one egg for the trouble.

No help at all, why do they HAVE a website?
Pros: Looks nice. Real shiny.
Cons: ZERO information on this product on LuckyGoldstar's site. NONE. Only model GBW-H20L which looks the same. NO DRIVERS ARE AVAILABLE ON THEIR WEBSITE. AT ALL. NOTHING. My Blu-Ray playing software, including Nero 8 (Legal), CyberDVD (Legal) will not recognize this drive on WinXP SP3 (Legal)
Other Thoughts: Been waiting THREE WEEKS for an email response. NOTHING.
Sorry, LuckyGoldstar, you need to do more than change your name to "LG" to make Americans happy. We dont buy garbage more than once

Works Great In Windows 7
Pros: Plays Blu-ray Disks beautifully with terrific surround sound!
Cons: In Win 7, you must type "allow" in the programs search box. The 1st. thing listed should be "Allow a Program Through Firewall". Click it. Next give all Cyberlink Products permission to get through. Restart and open PowerDVD and click the small circle right after the Cyberlink logo in the top, left hand corner, and if there is an Upgrade, do it.

Can't play Blu-rays on Windows 7
Pros: None.
Cons: Doesn't read Blu-ray movies, at least on Windows 7.
Other Thoughts: I can't speak for other operating systems, but this drive will not play Blu-ray movies on Windows 7. It doesn't recognize the disc in the drive.
There are drivers for this drive's retail sibling, the BH08LS20, but they won't install for this drive.
I've basically bought an overpriced DVD player.
I haven't tried writing a Blu-ray, but that's not why I bought the drive, so I don't really care if that works.

Avoid if using Windows XP x64
Pros: Would be great if it worked and didn't crash my machine.
Cons: When trying to back up from one hard drive to another hard drive (the optical drive was uninvolved) but with this drive on the SATA bus my machine would always freeze. To do back ups I have to unplug this device from the SATA bus. Freezes would happen at random as well, even when not doing a backup. LG tech support said I had a bad driver but couldn't tell me where I could download a good one.
Other Thoughts: RMAed the miserable thing.

Pros: I feel bad writing this review so soon after getting it, but there isn't much for reviews on this. I'll give my $.02 on this drive so far.
It is decently quiet. Depends on the disc and what I'm reading, but I can't hear anything from the couch (HTPC).
It's a Blu-ray writer for only $200. Comes with software, which is nice because otherwise you'll have to buy it separately to play Blu-ray movies.
I've played a few DVDs with it and installed my OS and everything on the computer with it, and it was great. I don't have any Blu-ray movies yet, so can't speak to that (nor writing them).
Cons: none that come to mind.

Great burner
Pros: This drive is very fast. Its able to burn 4X Verbatim disks at 8X. It also reads disks very fast. This is my first BD-R drive and its GREAT!
Cons: None so far. I wish media didn't cost so much but that's not LGs problem.
Other Thoughts: keep up the great work LG.

!st?
Pros: Looks nice, burnt DVDs +,-, ram discs fine. Hey it's a blu-ray for a couple hundred bucks.......NADA... So I'm the proud owner of BD-re discs,bd, and Dark Knight...what to do? WAIT
Cons: Waste of a lot of time. Did not play nor write blu rays discs! After phone, chat w/ LG,they said the BLUE laser was NOT working, red was fine. Solution= spend more $$ to return to Newegg and 2 more weeks of waiting.
Other Thoughts: ....Still waiting...LG...."Life's Good",,,,,"Lucky Goldstar"???? or like garbage. Dishwasher broke in 2 weeks, needed motor. Must be me???
