Great Drive
Pros: Fast and mostly quiet. Of course, like any optical drive, it does make more noise when it reads closer to it's maximum speed.
It, has so, far been able to read everything I have put in it. Which is more than I can say for the drives it replaced.
The front face of the tray extends all the way to the edges of the drive which makes for a smoother look than the typical rectangular groove you see with other drives. The edges of the face are beveled with the face protuding ever so slightly above the computer case front. All of this can be seen in the images if you look closely.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: Considering Plextor's reputation, I hope to get the same reliability and use out of this drive as I got out of the Toshibas and NECs I have used in the past. All of which still work years later.
I plan on buying a few more when NewEgg gets more stock.

Plextor DVD Burner PX-850 SA Oem & Retail
Pros: Plextor's name is a very good quality products. You won't be disappoint. I ordered both of them from NewEgg. They came on time. The faces of this Burner look nice and the drive work as expected.
Cons: I don't know the difference between "Retail" and "Oem" until I received both of them. The "Oem" has no application CD and SATA cable. I suggested for anyone who want to order should order "Retail". If not, looking for the SATA cable alone will cost you more. The rest is o.k. both of them are working the same. The face of the slide tray of this model is a little large in length than the others. I have some problem to put on the ITX case. I have to remove the face of the tray out and cut both side a little inorder to be able to put in my ITX case.

So fast and silent.
Pros: A VERY silent and FAST burner. A great upgrade.

Works well
Pros: Works great. I have only had it for about a week now and I have had no problems. Burned a DVD movie too and it came out wonderfully.
Cons: none so far.

Uber Burner
Pros: These drives are well worth the money at twice the cost of budget drives, bought one to test it out then bought 3 more for my duplication needs. The buffer is mad smart compared to other drives, always striving for near 100% utilization when burning, even with 4 of them.
Cons: None really...the tray has a glossy front face on it, can see dust if you don't keep it clean, no biggie for me.
Other Thoughts: It's Plextor...the best of the best...you can not go wrong...

works as advertised
Pros: looks great, works like Plextor said it would; handles any brand of DVD i have tossed at it. many say the price is a con, well under $40 free shipping for a very well made DVD burner is not what i call expensive.
Cons: now i want the new PX-B320SA SW
Other Thoughts: many complain about the noise, well little noisier then some but not bad at all; really on par with my four year old Plextor (don't remember the model any more) a solid well built machine

Solid
Pros: Fast, records anything you throw into it, supports all the various cd/dvd formats, tray launches/retracts quick.
Cons: Louder compared to other DVD drives, but my CM690 case is riddled with fans, so it's already loud.
Other Thoughts: I like how SATA devices don't need to be set to master/slave unlike EIDE.

Loud, Noisy, has issues
Pros: ehh, it reads DVDs (sometimes), I haven't even tried burning one yet.
Cons: LOUD, seems to have issues reading brand new discs. Makes lots of weird noises and just sounds kinda scary.
Other Thoughts: I may be returning this for something else. Newegg really needs to get some more DVD-Burners on hand that don't stink, i only got this one because i had no other options really.

Solid product for a good price
Pros: Uses SATA interface, not IDE. Supports almost all CD-R and DVD RAM/ROM +/- disc's. Work with XP, Vista and Linux (Fedora). Reasonably fast (48X CD, up to 16X DVD).
Cons: Uses more power than my old DVD burner, ended up having to get a new (bigger) power supply, I wouldn't think there would be that much difference, but apparently I was already pretty close to "the limit". Works great now!
Other Thoughts: Not the cheapest, not the fastest, but a good "middle of the road" product for a pretty good price.

Would not fit!
Pros: Great reputation. Nice looking drive.
Cons: Due to facia plate, would not fit into a Dell Precision Workstation. Might be Dell's fault, might be Plextor's fault!?!?!?
Other Thoughts: Will use in a different PC when the need arises.

Great
Pros: Great looks wonderfull preformance and quiet
Cons: Its an disk drive..... They ALL break. Ive gone through probably ten over a time period of eight years. If you burn alot they all go....
Other Thoughts: honestly I dont know what everyone is talking about I can barely notice the noise while burning and the speed is the fastest Ive seen. (Ive built somwhere in the range of 20 computers)

very unhappy!
Pros: sleak faceplate
Cons: extremely loud, expensive!
Other Thoughts: same story i get from so many other dvd burners, when doing anything but burning the drive is so loud its simply unacceptable.. i assumed if i went with the pricey model it would be more quiet but that simply wasnt the case.. i would not recommend this drive (or brand) to anyone! its on par with the 19 dollar l1te on

stable but seems a little slower
Pros: Solid, seems quiet, reads everything
Cons: The read and write performance were a little slower then I expected given the drives speed rating. No measurables, just a perception.
Other Thoughts: I tried a more expensive drive this time as I have had three of the $21 - $23 drives fail on me in the past year. Hopefully this one will last longer.

Stay Away!
Pros: They're pretty.
Cons: Bought 2 of these for a new build. The first one stopped opening and closing or recognizing media just slightly past Newegg's 30 day warranty. While I was in the process of doing the RMA for that drive (because Newegg is the best), the other drive did exactly the same thing. (Less than a week later!) They have both been RMA'd. Mine were OEM, and they were out of stock on retail & EOM, so.... Mechanically, they feel light compared to my Pioneers & Lite-Ons, and the drawer mechanisms appear to be very fragile.
Other Thoughts: If I hadn't been in the middle of a build, and had nothing but time on my hands, I may have taken the trouble to figure out what happened. When the second one went bad 6 days later, well, you just know that's NOT a good sign. I bought them because of the name/rep. I won't ever buy another Plextor.

Jet Engine
Pros: None, really - it's a DVD burner, like millions of other DVD burners. It's also at least twice as expensive as better DVD burners.
Cons: VERY loud. VERY loud. One more time: VERY LOUD. Also, as of right now, the Plextor page has NO idea about the 850 for support or firmware.
Other Thoughts: I have not owned a Plextor since the wonderful 716-A model about 5 years ago. Unfortunately, I will never own another Plextor. They were such a great company that had rock solid (and expensive drives) seems to have sold their name to the highest bidder.

Quiet and Fast
Pros: Very quiet DVD burner. More quiet than burners from other manufacturers that I've bought for half the price.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: Plextor has always been very reliable for me. Price to quality ratio is very high.

Love Netfilx!
Pros: Works! As with pretty much all Plextor drives, VERY high quality... Very well built and very smooth when reading all types of media. Plextor does a good job with firmware updates as well, so if you have some issues you can be sure that the ole hillbillies over at Plextor will get-a-move on and fix the firmware... Now that I think about it, I have a super old (5-6) IDE drive that is still kicking it... Nice and smooth!
Cons: This drive will cost you a few more duckets, but it's worth it in the long run if you're going to do massive burn and returns...
Other Thoughts: Works VERY well with AnyDVD and most other backup software, thankfully I can sleep well at night knowing that my Rambo DVD collection is properly archived! I REALLY recommend this drive!

You get what you pay for sometimes
Pros: I have owned dozens of dvd/cd/rw w drives in the past and these are notoriously the best. They will outlast other drives and dont use cheap plastic components that wear down after a year or two. My last drive was a no name and I ended up having to use a mini screwdriver for 6 months to open and close it. Dont go ghetto for this price.
Cons: price?
Other Thoughts: For this price, its worth the extra money to get a quality product.

bad
Pros: none
Cons: nothing special about this drive. this is a remake of an old lite-on and its horrible. Cannot chose bitsetting at all. It was in my computer for an hour while i messed with it and its not going back. How are plextor still charging 50 dollars for a drive thats horrible while all the others are charging half that.
Other Thoughts: I wish plextor would go back to their old ways of making quality and not the garbage that they have been producing for the past couple of years

Disappointed
Pros: Installed easly, was immediatly recognized by BIOS and OS. (Windows VISTA Home Premium SP1 32bit)
Cons: Does not support bitsetting to change booktype to DVD-ROM for DVD+R or DVD+R DL media. This creates compatibality problems with some "stand alone" DVD players. (I verified this with Plextor support.) Since I have players that require booktype = DVD-ROM for DVD+ R DL, this burner is not acceptable to me.
Other Thoughts: Overall preformance was "average" compaired to my other burners (LiteOn, HP, Toshiba).

EXCELLENT
Pros: This is probably the best drive I have ever owned. Bit-setting and excellent speed reading and writing. I use mine to make back ups of my 360 games. 26 games and no bad burn.
Cons: ???

Not what I thought....
Pros: Not sure there are any since I really didn't get to use it.
Cons: This one makes very loud spin up noise when cold booting the PC. Also makes very loud vibration noise when it spins up to a high speed. I mean very noticeable. First Plextor I've had and I've owned quite a few, that was bad. Something's not right so it's going back and I'll get an Asus.

Plextor builds another winner.
Pros: I have owned many Plextor drives in the past. This one lives up to their quality standards. The main reason to buy Plextors have always been their ability to read almost any disc without error. This is a big plus when ripping music CDs. This drive is very quiet and fast. Not made in China. 22x DVD burn.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: For those of you that think this drive is overpriced... every other drive I've used that wasn't a Plextor hasn't lasted. This includes drives that have won the New Egg customer choice awards. Plextor ends up being cheaper in the long run. Nice utilities are available at their web site. If you're looking for the best drive available, this is it.
