Great laserjet for the money
Pros: I've worked with HP Laserjets for years as a network admin, and I've always been impressed with their performance and relatively rare equipment failures. This was the first Laserjet I purchased for home use, and after a year of use, it has performed without a hitch.
Cons: The printer quality is outstanding, and it has the speed to match. As a law student I'm often printing 50+ pages of briefs and whatnot, and this printer does an excellent job. I can't imagine spending more $ for a laserjet unless you're looking for color.
Other Thoughts: The toner cartridge that came with the printer was good for approximately 2000 - 2500 sheets. Obviously I didn't count, but it was quite a while before I needed to put in a new toner cartridge.

Reliable innexpensive laser printer
Pros: Great price for a laser printer.
Cons: Paper sometimes need help to go in.
Other Thoughts: I only need to print a few pages every few months. My previous printers were inkjet and were typically only good for 1-5 uses and then the catridge would dry out (since I don't use frequently); those inkjet catridge are often more expensive then the printer they came with.
By comparison, this printer I can use a lot one weekend, not use it for 3 months, then use it again and it is always ready to go and provide good quality.
This is a great low budget printer!

great basic printer
Pros: Got it almost free after rebate. I have used it to print hundreds of sheets and so far no problems. Easy to set up, and good driver support from HP.
Cons: Had a 'rebate scare' from HP, where they were at one time rejecting rebates for this printer due to technicalities of who was an 'authorized reseller', but HP did begin to honor the rebates.
Other Thoughts: Another good quality printer from HP, but I would probably not pay full price of over a hundred.

Fast and nice
Pros: I had the HP LaserJet 6L at home, and was excellent and reliable and the tonner was expensive but lasted forever. My mistake was to buy a new printer a couple of years ago, an inkjet from HP as well, but color printer, with scanner, lots of features and functions I never used. With the many printers I have at work, I rarely use the printer at home. Still I want something that works when I need it, and the inkjet printer's head became clogged with dried ink, I spent a lot of money, to have an useless box everytime I need a printer. Finally this week I bought the HP LaserJet 1018. I installed on my older laptop with Windows XP in less than 5 minutes. Later I tried to install it on my newer laptop, a Vaio with Windows Vista. I used the CD that came with the printer. Vista searched for the drivers but at the end I got an error message. Apparently I was not installed but it appears listed and works fine on both computers.
Cons: the printer doesn't come with the USB cable. I have some USB cables at home that came with other devices, but I wasn't sure if they would work with the printer (apparently they are the same type) so I had to buy a cable from the printer seller, and it was more expensive than it probably costs.
Other Thoughts: Excellent printer if you're a college student, or for a small office, or if you need a printer once in a while (inkjets get clogged). It prints fast and it's easy to use. Works on Windows XP and Vista (even if you get an error message when installing on Vista, the printer gets installed).

I like it, but...
Pros: It's HP. I didn't even look at other brands. I am an IT tech and it's basically common knowledge that LaserJets are the printer of choice. And it's cheap.
Cons: Having trouble getting it to work with Vista. I bought this one instead of the better (and cheaper) model with higher PPM because it said it was Vista certified. I have tried installing the driver semi-manually as well as via the install software (which I downloaded from HP) and both bombed out. I will do some more research, but if you have Vista and need a wizard to install the printer, you may be out of luck. If anyone has better luck, please leave a review. It's certainly possible that it could have worked fine for you.
Other Thoughts: I don't hold it against HP that Vista doesn't run their driver install correctly. I used this printer on my XP machine and it works very well. It comes with starter toner (half-sized cartridge) and that doesn't make me happy but it's a great printer nonetheless and a great value. This is my second review (in my first one I hadn't tried to get it to work with Vista) but my rating hasn't changed, just wanted to follow up with my Vista experience.

Prints like a dream, but the ink . . .
Pros: Prints like a dream- fast and simple. No problem jams or anything like that.
Cons: 4 months into it (and about 1,000 pages), the toner cartridge that came with it is done (and yes, I shook it to even everything out). I really expect more out of a laser printer.
Other Thoughts: Maybe I got a lemon cartridge. At any rate, as I'm unimpressed with the standard HP cartridge, I figured I'd save a bunch of money and buy an off-label replacement cartridge.

It's HP and it's Vista Certified
Pros: It's HP. I deal with various laser printers as a staff IT guy (mostly Kyocera) but we have a few HPs. I would buy a LaserJet as my first choice any day. In fact, I didn't even consider any non-LaserJets when buying a home printer. They set the standard for non-production laser printers.
Good price, though I noticed afterwards that a similar (but higher production) model was heavily discounted and would have been cheaper. Stupid me.
Good quality printouts - definitely enough for home or home business use. I have used it with my XP box and hope that, being Vista certified, I can get it to work with my new build I haven't finished yet.
Cons: It comes with starter toner. For those who don't know, starter toner means you get about half as many pages out of it as you would with a new cartridge. Yes, it makes the price lower, but it would be nice if they shipped it with a full cartridge.
Other Thoughts: Hope it works with Vista. I've heard some say they can't make it work but it's my job to make printers work, and I've had good success in the past.

HP 1018
Pros: I was originally going to purchase the Sony 1020 Laserjet printer, as it seemed that every store in town had one and it gets consistently good reviews. Then I discovered its little brother, the 1018. The only real difference I could find between the two is that the 1020 prints more pages per minute. But since I usually only print 1-2 pages at a time, I decided to go with the 1018 :) It prints a page about 10 seconds after I press the Print button in an application (my old inkjet printer used to take 20-30 seconds just to warm up), and is working great so far. I didn't even bother with the install CD.. just downloaded a driver off the HP website, about 4.5MB. Worked flawlessly with WinXP. No problems at all.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Once again, Newegg delievers!

Excellent Laser Printer for the Price
Pros: Fast, quiet, small printer. B/W images are high-quality as well.
Cons: One annoying little quirk with Vista. If you want to print on both sides of the page (manually), Vista has a pop-up which directs you to an entirely different screen which displays the (Windows 97 style) message instructing you to turn the page over, and only then can you "return" to the regular desktop/windows. Only a tiny extra step, but annoying nonetheless.
