Rating + 3 Ahhh!

Pros: Great printer scanner copier... when it's not smashed.

Cons: Does NOT ship well at all! I bought one of these locally and used it for almost two years and absolutely loved it! We recently moved, and the scanner smashed in transit. I liked it so much I ordered a duplicate last week... and it smashed in shipping. Being in the middle of setting up a new home, I'm not dealing with returning it and all that so I just bought a different cheaper model locally for now.

Other Thoughts: Five stars for the unit... Zero stars for getting it to your house in one piece.

Rating + 5 Be Advised!

Pros: This is a nice printer, maybe a little slow but what do you expect for the price? If it was 3 or 4 hundred bucks I'd be disappointed. You get what you pay for, albeit the best price anywhere from the Egg but you buy middle of the road you get middle of the road performance. It does print incredibly nice photos!

Cons: Most people don't know this but HP printer come with a 1 year warranty but not if you don't buy the printer directly from HP. If you buy it here you get what is left of the warranty because it starts from the date of manufacture, not the day you buy it from Newegg. If it was manufactured 11 months ago you get 1 month of warranty. It's really stupid, I know. I am going to research other printer manufacturers and find one that does not have this policy. I like HP printers but I will never ever buy another one!

Other Thoughts: None, I'm still in awe that a company as big as HP would have a warranty policy this idiotic. I'm surprised they have as many customers as they do!

Rating + 1 Pass this one up - or run from it

Pros: None to speak of

Cons: Slow printing times, especially when hooked up to network.
Smears like crazy, allow 1 hour drying time before touching the printed document (I wish I was joking about this).
Lackluster scanning .... yet to try photo printing, I really dont have the spare time to let the photos dry.

Other Thoughts: Steer clear of this HP printer.

Rating + 1 C6280 repeat failures?

Pros: When working it produces great color pictures.

Cons: The first C6280 failed after about three months. The Cyan simply quit printing. Tried new cartridge but the head appears to be completely shutdown. No streaking or partial failure. Just totally dead. After a long, long discussion with customer service and many resets and power off then on testing, hp sent me another refurbed C6280. Worked perfect for about three months and then guess what, it failed exactly like the first one failed.... The Cyan head just stopped one day and nothing I could do would make it print again. My question is: is this a hardware flaw or what causes the failure? And if I had this problem twice, why doesn't anyone else seem to have this failure? Why am I the lucky one?

Other Thoughts: I have to reconsider whether or not I would get this printer again.... Seems to be a pattern of failures that I can not understand.

Rating + 3 Fast, Good quality Prints and scans

Pros: Prints are fast and of great quality. It's a thermal printer, so the ink doesn't go through the paper. Easy network configuration.
Excellent support under Linux.
Good HP support.

Cons: Windows driver has a ton of bloatware.
Why does a printer/scanner need 100mb+ driver?
All the extra stuff does not add any value.
HP update service won't let the PC shutdown until you kill the process manually.
Before and after each print , it makes a lots of noise for a while doing something all by itself. (Much longer then my and louder old HP InkJet)
Since the Driver has so much bloatware it will not install on my HP mini Note 2140 (driver installation requires 800 pixels of vertical resolution)
Made me think of returning my mini note cause who knows what else will have the same problem.

Other Thoughts: When will HP learn that when I buy a printer scanner I just want to scan and print. I don't care about all the new types of HP paper that they now have. I would much rather have a lean driver that doesn't take too much space or system resources. If you make a good peripheral, don't take over my whole OS.

Rating + 5 Awesome Wireless Printer

Pros: 1. Wireless Printer
2. Great Print Quality
3. Can hold a lot of paper at once
4. Memory Card Reader
5. Memory Card Preview Screen
6. Large Scan Space
7. Easy to Replace Ink
8. Software is AWESOME, you can do a lot to photos.
9. Nice Design

Cons: -1. Sometimes when you try to view photos from the computer, the memory card doesn't show up.
-2. Black ink runs out very fast, even if you print on fast draft
-3. Heavy

Other Thoughts: There are not many cons with this printer, just that it doesn't connect to the network sometimes. This could be Vista compatibility issues, because we bought this when Vista was still having trouble with drivers. I think they fixed most of the issues now though. Still a great printer for the value, and I would recommend it highly.

Rating + 2 Ehh

Pros: Its does what it says and says what it does.

Cons: After printing a document, this thing will spend up to 30 or 40 seconds making REALLY annoying sounds as it does...well, I'm not even sure what its doing. Also, when the ink is low its little "!" light glows orange and it refuses to print! very annoying.

Rating + 2 If you don't mind paper jams...

Pros: The print quality is good. It prints quite fast when printing long documents in "fast draft" mode but not so great when you queue up bunch of short documents. Two sided printing is great - saves trees.

Cons: Paper jams and mis-feeds. I have never had a printer that jammed paper this much since I bought my first printer 15+years ago. I am thinking on going office-space on it right about now.

Other Thoughts: The one I got may have been an aberration but I heard similar complaints from other HP printer owners so food for thought - I am not happy. YMMV.

Rating + 5 Excellent Printer

Pros: I have only had this printer for a couple of days now, but so far so good. First off, my girlfriend who is completely computer illiterate hooked it all up. So that shows how easy setup is. The photo print quality is amazing. Smooth, even and no lines. Looks very much like studio quality prints. It prints really fast and has alot of extra features. The fact that you can buy just the colors you need at a low price alone makes it a great deal. Im not a big fan of this manufacturer but their printers are top notch quality and this is proof of that.

Cons: So far absolutely none.

Other Thoughts: Very good price and very good quality. I would recommend this printer to anyone, especially if you are someone who takes alot of pictures. The network capability through ethernet is very nice to have as well. Plus Scan and copy, this printer has all you will ever need.

Pros: Great quality prints in at a good speed, Ethernet capable, easy basic install, includes a few sheets of 4x6 photo paper

Cons: Does not include a usb cable or Ethernet cord, what's up with that. Network setup could be on the difficult side if you're not careful.

Other Thoughts: would have given it 5 eggs if i would have gotten some free paper or photo paper like best buy did with my last photosmart. also, if they would have included a usb or ethernet cord. But for the price it's a great buy. highly recommended

Rating + 5 Works well so far

Pros: Attractive; can be used without pc turned on for some actions. Display screen is handy. Changing ink is easy [whole top opens like a copier]. Doesn't take up too much space. Has external connections for various types of storage media. Was recognized by XP Pro, [but did need to downloading basic drivers for it to work]. Usb connection. Recognized by Linux Mint.

Cons: None as yet, only had it a few days so far. Have not copied or scanned anything yet, but have made a few basic black and white and one picture print; [it was excellent]...Based on reviews, it may be best to stay away from the install cd [but it might work ok for more tech savy people]...If there are serious problems I'll add it later to this review.

Other Thoughts: I checked the reviews very closely before making this purchase, and was concerned about noise, paper jams, problems with software, ect...I followed the advice of another buyer and installed just the basic drivers from HP website [no cd]....the thing works, and noise is no worse than other printers I've heard, makes great prints, was easy to set up and is faster than my previous printer.

Rating + 4 Love The Hardware...

Pros: The hardware does everything it's supposed to do quite well, and having a scanner in the long run will save the purchase price (got it when it was on sale for an even Benjamin with free shipping) by not having to pay for the CD with the kid's school pix. The ability to print graph or musical staff paper may be gimmicky, but didn't add to the cost, (spare room in the firmware ROM) Also does duplex printing, and the network feature works flawlessly... that is, once I entered the settings manually. And the screen and menu system made that a piece of cake. New enough architecture that the carts will be around for a while. (See other thoughts) Oh, and it even automatically detects the paper type in the photo tray!

Cons: Weird scanning glitch; everything that I have scanned so far except 8½×11 has to be scanned twice. The first time, all I get is a thin line, then scan again, don't even have to lift the lid or change anything, and it's golden. The software is downright heinous, too. Insisted on "cataloging" every picture, (even temporary cache file garbage) and made duplicates of every one! (e.g. blahblah.jpg would add blahblah (1).jpg) And it's just big and slow. Of course, like all printers (and sound cards, and video capture cards, and mice, and...) it seems to think the sole reason for owning a computer is this device, so it loads a bunch of stuff on start up. I still highly recommend this device, it's just it could be better.

Other Thoughts: This unit replaced a C***n that still works flawlessly, but the last brick/mortar within 25 miles dropped the carts. That includes a specialty ink/toner place. When I got them at a "local" (about 35 miles) electronics and appliance chain, the sales associate said that he hadn't heard of plans to drop them, but if W*****t and T****t did, most likely they would too. Wish I had the programming chops to rewrite the C***n bundleware for this one. HP has really gotten away from the "sell the printer at a loss and hose them on ink" model in the last year or so, and the current generation are real bargains.
Also note, this particular model does NOT come with a negative/slide adapter or CD/DVD capability... not a con, just what is and what ain't.

Rating + 4 Replaced old HP with new

Pros: This replaced an old HP Inkjet that I had for about 9 years. The Photosmart has a network jack which was great since we have a laptop as well as PC on our network. Setup was simple and relatively quick. Printer has worked pretty well so far.

Cons: Software pops up with error on Windows Vista if the printer is turned off - I don't need it on at all times! Not a major nuisance, but an annoyance at times. Takes a little long to start up initially as well, but worth the wait as it prints very well and fast.

Other Thoughts: I hope this one lasts as long as my last HP printer!

Pros: Ceapest deal in town. Took back my sale unit to Circuit City cause it was cheaper thru Newegg, enough to buy a sidewinder mouse!
Great heavy duty feel. A must have for first shooters! Easy to keep clean and is very precise.

Cons: Has more bells and wistles than I needed.

Other Thoughts: Will buy another one soon.

Rating + 5 awesome

Pros: Wonderfully easy. Fast, the web interface with scanning makes me feel spoiled. Did I mention fast? Very easy driver-only install on XP, auto detected in Linux with HPLIP interface installed. On Mac it was also auto-detected & installed fine.

Cons: mmm none..?

Other Thoughts: Installation was incredibly easy, I'm unsure why others had issues, it practically installed itself. But I don't use Vista so.....

I'd been turned off to All-in-one printing devices for years, but this one made my day. I really don't see how it could get any easier except maybe if it configures itself as you're plugging it in..

Rating + 5 Nice Printer, Nice Price

Pros: Easy install. Seems to work with good quality printing. I heard this printer was a pain to install, but it installed with no problems. $99 after promos with free shipping and Newegg service.

Cons: I have yet to see any, but ask me in 6 months. Hopefully it will keep on working wich will be the main thing. Ink is pricy........I doubt I will leave this printer on all of the time like my old 895cxi.

Other Thoughts: I downloaded the latest basic drivers from HP. The other features never seem to work right and bog down the system. I did not even take the disk out of the package. Following the install paperwork, and the prompts on the printer yielded success on the first try. I am not sure what people mean when they say this printer is noisy. The ink pumps grind a bit, but the fans on my computer are louder. All in all it seems to be a quality unit.

Rating + 5 Super Printer

Pros: This is a super printer and is exactly what I was looking for. Prints very nice photos. Especially using HP paper in both 4x6 and full size sheets. Extremely easy to setup, including the network portion. Works both for Linux (via HPLIP) and Windows XP. Scans over the network through a web browser interface for by means of software.

Cons: Black text is okay but kind of on the light side and not quite as crisp as my Brother laser. Still..... its a fine printer. Although not a con, the objections raised by other buyers comments are really not an issues like "shaking" and "heavy unit." The thing works beautifully and works over the network very quickly.

Other Thoughts: Used the CD to install the drivers only over the "network" in XP. Worked like a champ! Set up the network manually via the little control panel and screen, then installed the drivers on each machine. The fact that it doesn't have Picbridge or some of the other more sophisticated features is not an issues since I didn't buy it for those reasons. Just wanted a basic good photo printer. 6 color process is beautiful.

Rating + 2 Drivers major headache

Pros: Small, quiet, energy efficient, easy to use when it works, does about everything expected of it reasonably well.

Cons: The only problem I have is with the software/drivers. I've owned HP printers exclusively since the early 90's. The last two have had terrible drivers. I'm older, have no kids, and maintain my computers in a pretty reliable condition, but these HP drivers are nothing but trouble. Not only are they bloated with about 10x as much wasted junk as they need to have, but they are constantly locking up the system or the printer. The drivers are user unfriendly to configure and use, but most annoying, they are just plain intrusive. They remind me of the old AOL program, load it at your own risk! Since you must have drivers to use the darn thing, I have to give this HP low ratings (be advised that these same drivers are used for a number of HP printers).

Other Thoughts: Find a way to write drivers that make the printer print and forget all the flowery garbage that you attach to the driver that causes system problems and is to user unfriendly to waste time trying to use.

Rating + 2 Software Problems

Pros: Very nice printer when the software and drivers are working properly, which is about 50% of the time.

Cons: I have several computers on my LAN that share this printer. Each one has a unique problem with this printer's software. One of the dual core processor machines has one processor completely consumed by the the drivers. The only way I can kill the process is to Ctrl-Alt-Del and manually stop it, but then the printer does not work at all. Another machine worked fine until the HP Update tried to install a critical update. The update did not successfully install, and now every time I boot up a window pops up to remind me that it didn't update successfully. I could go on about the bugs on the other machines, but to make a long story short, the software ruins an othwise nice product.

Other Thoughts: It's a shame that the software for some of the newer HP printers is so poor (I have friends with some of HP's other newer printers, and they have software issues, too). HP used to be -The- printer manufacturer of choice.

Rating + 4 Excellent printer.

Pros: Easy setup and great features. You can't go wrong with price and options. Ink is broken out into several reservoirs.

This is my second one. Fathers day present for my dad.

Cons: I think this is a complaint of all injet printers. Ink reservoirs are just too small.

Other Thoughts: I'm confused by the people that claim to be technical that aren't aware network printers "have" to have a static ip. Or in some cases a reserved ip. How is your lack of knowledge HP's fault?

Rating + 5 Another Happy NEWEGG Customer

Pros: Great printer, excellent scanner, and the included HP software isn't too bad. Nice menu system, and I love the included card reader - I can just plug a memory card in and copy the images onto my pc, or open them up and print them via the menu screen.

Cons: None yet. Ink goes fast, but thats the same for all printers.
The box was damaged (during shipping - I suppose) in a couple spots but everything looks and works perfect.

Other Thoughts: External "ink tank" reservoirs might be cool for any printer... maybe with some pressurized tubes feeding the cartridges... then you could just buy ink by the can, like paint, and pour it into the reservoirs... hahah... maybe one day!

Rating + 4 Update: After the repair

Pros: Good print quality, easy to use, nice scanner, and scanning software will save directly as a PDF, and save pre-sets (somewhat). Had a broken unit the first time which HP replaced in a timely fashion with typically good HP printer support.

Cons: Driver Software is a pig + slows down your desktop and crashes if it can't find the printer (e.g. it's really off), complains if shut down from an external power swtich, ink is pricey.

Other Thoughts: I reviewed the unit earlier. Even though call centers suck, the replacement unit came, brand new, and it has worked very well ever since. The scanning software could be a bit better, but the print quality is very nice and I'm overall quite pleased with this purchase for the price.

Rating + 5 Amazing Printer

Pros: The print quality is super sharp, and the color reproduction is spot on. The integrated scanner is super fast and produces nice resolution images. With this printer specifically I was able to reproduce a 25-0-89 green with more brilliance than any other printer I tested including other higher end HP's. Its 4x6 boarder less feature is essentially perfect.

Cons: The overall size of the housing is rather large and somewhat not as attractive as some of its competing printers, but the construction itself is quite good.

Rating + 5 Great deal for $$$

Pros: This is a great deal for the price (I paid $150). It's nice to setup all computers to print to this one network printer - it does a great job. Supports all current windows versions and lets you scan over the network with Windows. I used Linux CUPS HP C6100 drivers in Kubuntu - works very well.

Cons: none yet - setup static IP address first thing right from the printer's control panel and then install software/printers on all your machines. No problems. HP's printers test page doesn't seem to work for me - but windows test printer works fine.. don't know what that problem is.

Other Thoughts: Setting up the static IP first thing will get around DHCP issues (especially if you're using a broadband router's DHCP). I did not think the scanner was any louder than any other scanner I've ever heard - no noise issues with mine.

Rating + 2 If it worked I could do a better review

Pros: The unit looks good. The color LCD screen is a huge step up from the brother MFC 420cn that we have at home, bought two years ago. The selection of card slots and the simple sets of buttons grouped by their functionality also look like they would make the unit easier to understand than past generations of multifunction units that tried to model themselves on fax machines and copiers for their user interfaces.

Cons: The unit arrived and it was broken. I received uninformative error messages coupled with useless error message numbers that can't be referenced on the HP web site. An example is "Ink System Failure. Ink system has failed. Unable to print. Refer to printer documentation. Error: 0xc18a0106. Turn power off, then on again". Hmmm... the manual doesn't say anything about this, nor does the HP web site. The support call was painful since the VRU was dead set against understanding what I said unless I forced myself to imitate its chipper intonation. I felt like I was being mocked, and even though I did it, the first time I called it dropped my call.

I'm also upset that in the mean time I can't seem to use the scanner. That's the main reason I bought this smooth plastic nightmare.

Other Thoughts: The HP call center worker, Chris in the Philippines, was very helpful. At one point he ran around his call center floor for easily 10 minutes and came back to the phone panting because he needed to get the secret support menu code from his supervisor. He was apologetic for this, which I appreciated, but since the call lasted 1.5 hours it tested my patience (he had to do the running around twice, because the first time someone gave him instructions for a different model).

After clearing and re-trying a few things in the menu (over and over), we got a test page that seemed to be almost entirely blue and black, after which the printer refused to do anything else. Chris arranged for a replacement printer to get sent to me. I'm not happy about getting a refurbished printer in exchange for a brand new one. I'm really not happy that the printer s error message doesn't point me to useful info on the HP web site.

Rating + 4 Packed with features, decent quality, but LOUD

Pros: I was first attracted to this printer with the built in networking and duplex printing that you don't normally find on an HP inkjet printer outside the OfficeJet series. Add to that the usual Photosmart features (LCD, memory card slots, etc...) and you have a pretty good feature set.

Print quality was initally poor because I was initally using leftover bargain-basement grade paper. An upgrade to decent paper resolved this issue.

Cons: Why is thing so loud? There is no reason or decent explanation for the noises this thing makes. The scanner mechanism sounds like a dot matrix printer, and the ink cartridge initialization cycle is almost as bad as fingernails on a chalkboard.

Other Thoughts: You'll be hard pressed to find a printer with more features for the price that the rebate bring this printer to.

However, at regular price you'll definitely find comparable models, and they will most certainly be quieter.

But, a $xx rebate check can buy quite a few ear plugs!

Pros: high quality scanning and dedicated 4x6 tray.

Cons: big, heavy compared to 4000 and 5000 series

Other Thoughts: I bought this mainly for photo printing and thought the latest technology from the hp print engine and 6 different color cartridges would make this photosmart produce great photos. The photos looked just as bad as the $85 c4180 I upgraded from! I am disappointed to say the least. I should go back to my psc2110 that had the 56 and 57 cartridge and my photos were excellent. ..vvtf hp?

Pros: network capable and duplex, small quick and simple setup

Cons: Yet more programs running in task manager.

Other Thoughts: This replaced my old HP PSC 500 which is twice as big. Setup was easy on Mac and Win XP. As for the noise doesnt seem loud at all. The printing delay is nothing that i cant wait 5 seconds for. I like the 4x6 paper tray also pictures look pretty good. The only annoyance i have is when i first turn on my xp pc it connects and disconnects about 4 or 5 times then stays connected. No big problem just annoying clicking off the balloon

Rating + 4 What it does, it does very well

Pros: Vista ready, ethernet support, duplex printing, Web Smart printing, easy to set up and use, separate ink cartridges, high-quality printing, scanning and copying.

Cons: Difficulty getting it networked, bulky software, printing delays, noise and vibration

Other Thoughts: The only reason I didn't give the C6280 five stars was because of the problems I had getting it to work properly on my network. Once I assigned it a static IP address, the problem with the printer disappearing from the network was solved.

I mentioned the printing delays, noise and vibration because some might find them objectional. They are only minor annoyances to me, not major issues. I chose the advanced installation and only installed the software I wanted.

Some have criticized the C6280 for what it doesn't have - PictBridge support, fax, document handler and other advanced features. But I won't do that because this has all the features I need at a price I can afford. Best of all, it does everything I need it do do very well. My primary uses are printing photo-quality digital images, Web printing and occasional scanning and copying.
