Too Hot for Gov't Work
Pros: Low Cost
Cons: I have been recommending these low cost Samsungs for about 2 years because I had one and it seemed to be a great printer. However those folks that print alot can burn these up in just a couple months. Mine finally went south after a year. I see other people have had these overheating problems and paper feed problems. You may want to look elsewhere or get an extended warranty.

fabulousness! works with LINUX
Pros: This printer works with Linux great! Inexpensive Laser printer that does duplex and it can be networked too.
Cons: Don't know how long it will last or if the toner cartridges will always be available through the life of the printer.

works great
Pros: small footprint, warms up quickly, good print quality, duplex
Cons: no complaints so far...expended first cartridge and put in 2850B
Other Thoughts: when i opened the new cartridge they had instructions for free label to recycle cartridge...couldn't have been easier. Printer has been very good so far.

Worked great for 4 months
Pros: Cost and print speed
Cons: Poor Quality? Did not last long
Other Thoughts: Bought it in August, it's now December and had to take it out of service because it started to overheat and started smoking.

Good price.
Pros: Great price point, fast, relatively quite, good low power mode.
Cons: Jams sometimes during duplex printing.
Other Thoughts: We bought about 18 of these over the last year. Only one was DOA. A couple have experienced jams while using duplex mode (no jam in simplex). I looked at the duplex mechanism and saw that it has rollers on only one side. Don't know if this is related to the jams, but it does seem to match the symptom that the paper angles off to one side when a jam happens.

Could have been nice, but isn't
Pros: Cheap, quiet. Functioning as a single-sided network printer is fine.
Cons: I bought this from Newegg almost exactly a year ago. We need a duplex printer. After three months, it started jamming when duplex printing. The problem got more serious as time went on. Finally we had to never use duplex - not only would it jam every time, but the top eighth of the page was missing and/or smeared. I waited until just before the 1-year warrantee period, and sent it in for repair. The repair place, very nice people, attended to it right away, and requested the replacement part Samsung specificied. Now it's been more than three weeks, and Samsung still hasn't sent the part. They say it's back-ordered, and won't do anything else, like send a refurbished printer instead. We've been without a printer for a month, so I just ordered an HP - we have to have a printer. I am extremely disappointed, and will never buy a Samsung printer again (their monitor I have is, I must admit, pretty nice). Their service is worse than terrible. So I give this zero stars (eggs).

Great Features, Poor Quality
Pros: Fast printing, duplexer, and network connectivity at an unbeatable price.
Cons: Poor print quality, no straight-thru paper path for thicker materials, duplexer jams easily causing wasted paper, margins when printing with the Mac drivers are slightly off/different from most other printers.
Other Thoughts: I purchased this printer to replace an aging HP 5P that served me quite well for many years, but it was slow and needed a new toner. So I figured I would look for something new. I really wanted something with networking built in. I was leaning toward a Brother, but then saw this Samsung, which had great reviews. However, I was fairly disappointed. While it prints fast, the print quality is most certainly not up to par with my old HP 5P. The blacks are just not as dark as my HP or my Brother laser printer. I was also shocked to see that there is no straight-thru paper path. If you want to print an envelope or other thick material, there are levers on the back you release for this, but it still curves them into the top output tray, leaving you with curved material. I also found the manual feed "tricky" to feed straight.
Overall, a big disappointment.

Good printer with issues
Pros: Fast, duplex, small footprint, ethernet. Toner has both a regular and high capacity cartridge available.
Cons: Rated for a high duty cycle, yet its easy to overwhelm by overheating with 100+ page pdf's and the like.
Other Thoughts: We have three of these, two used lightly for personal use and one upwards of 100 pages of normal text. One of the lightly used ones failed on the second change of toner. As I I live in a city we did have an authorized repair place. To sum up a long story I had to make 4 trips to eventually receive a refurb printer. For a $220 printer Samsung cost me way more in time, I could have thrown it away and been ahead. Canon just ships a refurb machine far a straight change out, rather than make you go through hoops. After all we know the $100 + cartridges are where the money is made, not the printer itself. Aside from the one faulty issue the three we have work well as personal printers.

Wonderful in every way !
Pros: Fast print, good quality print, duplex mode is automatic, cheap to run, small footprint, does small pages and large, including different paper weights, networking ability, the greater number of pages the faster this workhorse runs. This machine works with Vista 32/64, with no problems. Samsung keeps track of your number of printed pages and lets you know how much ink you have left, on their website, which comes on the disk you receive. I have owned this for 6 months and I still have the original cartridge in use. Printed out a 300 page manual with this puppy and each sheet is duplexed and was done in record time, with not a ink blot out of place.
Cons: It was not free. I did not get this from Newegg but off of someone else. Only 1 paper jam since I have used it, which was my fault two pages were creased and I did not see it.
Other Thoughts: Looking into raising the memory and getting the second 250 page paper holder for it, not that it needs it but I just like to be prepared. Networking, duplex printing ability...You need this printer! Samsung built a reliable piece here.

Pros: fast printer, great features
Cons: many defects
Other Thoughts: Newegg sent me two defected printers already. The first one had a dotted line printed on each page. The second one was emitting extremly high levels of ozone which caused me respiratory issues.

Best Duplexing Printer under $200
Pros: Purchased this printer because of a need for duplexing. I thought for under $200 I would give it a try. I am amazed at the speed, and quality of this printer. I print manuals that have full coverage on both sides. So far excellent printer.
Cons: None so far. I have it set up connect to usb, but will be adding it as stand alone on ethernet soon.
Other Thoughts: For under $200 you can't go wrong. If you need duplexing, or just a fast, reliable laser printer, this is a great printer.

Superb Bargain - Great output
Pros: Super Output - very nice professional printouts
Duplexer built in!
Great Web Interface - full control of all printer functions from a browser interface
Great low power mode
Ethernet!!
Well worth the price
Cons: None that I've been able to see. Had it for 9 months now .
Other Thoughts: Perfect alternative to high cost inkjets when you only need B&W copy. The duplexer works like a charm

Good Printer but Duplex jams
Pros: Worked great right away. Using as vanilla TCP/IP network printer. Small, very cheap, very quiet. Print quality is very nice, handles envelopes well. Extremely fast print job sending and printing, even with complex graphics.
Cons: After 2-3 months, a persistent problem developed. We use duplex printing by default. After not using for 30 minutes or more (printer in sleep mode?), the first one or two pages out jams consistently - this is really annoying. It happens so consistently and in the same way (paper prematurely stopped to begin retracting for 2nd-side printing), seems like it's a design flaw or sensor failure. Samsung support is useless - your only option is to exchange for a factory-reconditioned unit (I don't want someone else's problems in exchange for an almost-new unit). This problem does not occur for single-sided printing, but that wastes a lot of paper. So, unfortunately, does this paper jam problem.
Other Thoughts: Pet peeve: This is my second duplex printer, and I need it to print manuals and books. Both printers have the same silly behavior. If you print a single page (memo, invoice, etc.) the printer feeds it for both sides, even though one side is never printed. Ditto for the last page in an odd-page-count print job. Printing would be faster, less mechanical stress, to print a page single sided when possible. This is just inattention to detail in the embedded software.

Installing & testing
Pros: Fast, quiet, small, networkable wirelessly, attractive, small footprint, fairly light.
Cons: Slight curling of the paper. My guess is that due to the tiny time the heater has to seal the toner on these very fast printers they require a higher temp to get the job done. I'll experiment with the settings for paper weight, try different papers, etc. but I'm not too concerned as the effect is slight and stacking finished work should flatten over time.
Other Thoughts: The OS X Fax & Print pane in Sys Prefs let you install as a Bonjour printer, with the specific (not generic) Samsung driver. I'm connected it as a USB printer using Airport Express. Simplicity itself. The Samsung driver provides options including Toner Saver, Duplex printing, dpi and others I didn't have with LaserWriter 8 (because the LaserWriter printer itself didn't have those features). A poster somewhere inferred that you can also switch to the Postscript emulation driver. I haven't tried that. Someone posted they got it for $100 with rebate - the lowest price I found was $190 something (not from a Newegg caliber site), possibly meaning that as this model has become more popular pricing stiffened. So far, I like the unit. I haven't figured out what the access panel on the back is as there is no straight thru path. Maybe it's for clearing jams. Nice job, Samsung. Quiet, small, light, attractive, Energy Star, networkable. The Newegg buy process is nice. Tom, Pacific Palisades, Cali

low cost full-featured small laser printer
Pros: Needed a reasonably fast duplex-capable laser printer that is also network ready (tired of hassling with separate print server boxes). Was amazed to find one for $180 with good reviews. Set up was easy on Windows, and even easier on Ubuntu. Print quality is very good, even in toner-saver mode. Duplex operation is easy and smooth.
Cons: Has started making some nasty squeaking sounds when warming up -- will monitor it to make sure it doesn't get worse. The paper tends to curl a bit more than some other printers I've used, but it flattens out eventually.

Great Addition to Home Office
Pros: Excellent companion to an inkjet printer; I found myself going through those tri-color cartidges just printing drafts of presentations and web pages. Quiet, warms up quickly and prints even quicker.
Cons: - Couple of jams on envelopes with the manual feeder. - Included software adds unnecessary bloat.
Other Thoughts: Very pleased overall.

Pros: Quiet, fast and installed easily.
Cons: There were two negatives for me; the envelope slot only allows one-at-a-time. (Not Samsung's fault, I was not aware of this limitation when I bought it.) Theother negative was that the envelope quides do not lock. Every time you feed an envelope, the guide moves apart a bit and you have to adjust it again.
Other Thoughts: Newegg's no hassle return policy was great and the staff was courteous and helpful. They made me a oyal custormer and I ordered a better printer from them.

Did not last
Pros: Excellent price for 30 ppm duplex networked printer. Quiet when not printing. Simple, clean web server management interface. If the printer had continued to work I would have given 5 eggs.
Cons: While it was working it got really, really hot on the top surface when printing. Fairly noisy when printing. The printer totally stopped working after 2 weeks and 250 pages. The red light was on solid and the printer made odd noises. Operator indicators are only a set of flashing LEDs and not a descriptive display. One would expect full status through the web interface to the printer but this is not there for some reason. Toner cartridges are fairly expensive for how few pages they print.
Other Thoughts: I needed this printer quickly so I bought it at a local big box retail store. When I returned it after it failed within 2 weeks they said they'd have to refund my money because their entire stock of these printers were open boxes (returns). This can't be a good sign. I have since acquired a gently used LJ-4M+, a real workhorse.

Great Printer
Pros: Networked, web admin, fast, quiet, cheap per page, compact, Postscript built in (along with great Linux and OS X support), PCL and PS drivers happily sit side by side in windows.
Cons: Graphics rendering not quite as nice as I'd like
Other Thoughts: A winner; best mono printer I've ever had by a large margin.

Pros: Laser, Duplex and Networking for under $250?
Yes, Samsung has a very compelling product here. For the most part it works fantastic. The print quality is fantastic. It works in Windows, OSX and Linux with little to no problems. The web interface is surprisingly very powerful for a printer made obviously for a home user.
Cons: Getting the printer on to the network can be quite difficult. The IP address is nearly impossible to find in either the documentation or online. I only found it in a review here on Newegg. Also, there is a bug with the printer's DHCP server. If you are not familiar with networking and configuring your router and the printer when you finally are able to get to the web interface you may want to consider just using the USB. Hint to those having issues getting it to play nice, set the printer to be a static IP address that works with your home network.
Other Thoughts: I haven't had to replace my toner yet, the prices for replacement is a little higher compared to other models. Hopefully this will come down in the coming months.

Great Printer!
Pros: I bought this for my home office because I was tired of sending print jobs out. Fast, 2 sided, crisp images. Attractive appearance. Super small footprint/casing. Very inexpensive cost to run (ie consumables). Best printer I've ever owned.
Cons: A little noisy but this is a small minus, red light on printer informs that there is a problem (ie paper jam, low toner) but doesn't tell you which problem it is.

Great product. Fast and multi-os compatibility!
Pros: Great print quality, many features (2 sided printing, many paper types supported, etc.) and support for many operating systems. I just redid my system (now dualbooting with Ubuntu 8.10 x64 and Windows XP SP3) and it works flawlessly in linux and windows. Nice web app to control the printer.
Cons: The toner was pretty badly shaken up on delivery (ink was all over the place). But after a few wasted prints everything worked out.
Other Thoughts: Ubuntu installation was fine (with supplied driver disc), but the driver disc didn't work with windows for some odd reason. I had to download the newest drivers for the printer from the Samsung website to get the thing working in Windows.

SOHO workhorse, great for students too
Pros: * Price - great price and qualified for free shipping * Speed - I am printing mostly course lectures, pdf's ebooks and speed is up there and initial print from 'cold' system is impressive and seems pretty quiet. * Size - at the size of a few text books, the footprint is perfect for my apartment bedroom, unobtrusive. * Duplex - The duplex printing on this unit is a fascinating to watch and performs quite well. * Setup - Setup was a snap, worked great in vista with supplied drivers * Font Support - postcript3, what else can I say?
Cons: none so far
Other Thoughts: I wish it had wifi, but not at this price.

Great Deal!
Pros: Quick print time and good quality. Duplex printing is nice and works great! I printed a 750 page document in a relatively short amount of time with no problems.
Cons: Just a small annoyance, but I haven't seen the toner cartridges available locally, but ordered a spare from Newegg along with the printer.
It may be a bit noisy for some people, but it's really not that bad.

Pros: Text quality is very good, on a par with the heavy duty HP's we have at work that cost 2-5x as much. Compact size, yet it's very fast and handles duplexing reasonably well. Spooling time is minimal, at least with ethernet; Windows will display the printer in the system tray for a second and then it disappears, the printer has already assumed the job and there's no load on the OS anymore. This is NOT a host based printer, which is a very good thing, as it will work well over a network and require less resources from the computer/printer. The drivers are hassle free and efficient. You can browse to the printer by IP and view all kinds of useful information. Works well in Linux, although I'd like to see Samsung follow Brother and release open source drivers.
Cons: Graphics quality is average for a LJ of this price, meaning solid bars will have some inconsistencies. I haven't played around too much with dpi settings and different print languages, but with the default settings, this is how it stands.
The fuser gets very hot and causes an area of plastic near the top to get very warm. I suppose this is one tradeoff of having a small LJ, where everything has to be much closer together. A fan may have been a good idea, rather than just a vent, but I can't say it has caused any problems.
Other Thoughts: If you don't need color or graphical quality from your printer, then an LJ will invariably prove to be more economical and provide better quality text at a higher speed. In my experience as a sysadmin, a non-host based printer employing an ethernet connection is a much more robust solution than a host based printer over USB or parallel. Even if you need color/high quality graphics, I'd still recommend a networkable low cost LJ like this to handle the bulk of your documents, allowing you to save your more costly ink.

Great network capable laser at nice price!
Pros: This is one of the least expensive network capable mono laser printers on the market, but don't let its low price fool you. Its print quality is excellent, at least in text and non-demanding graphics. Print speed is outstanding and time-to-first print is as fast, if not faster, than any inkjet around...much faster than other lasers I've owned previously. Easy configuration in network setup. Very small footprint. Duty cycle is exceptional for small business or home office use, but wouldn't expect it to compete with larger, "real" office lasers. Included toner cartridge good for 2,000 sheets. Internal, front mounted paper tray is excellent idea and executed well. Toner is also easily accessed in front. Included software has host of print options...more than most.
Cons: No big faults at all, but it's not the quietest laser on the market, but I suppose compromises had to be made somewhere.
Other Thoughts: Not a bad price here at Newegg, especially considering the free shipping. But I purchased mine from OD when it was on clearance for $40 US.....probably the best $40 I've spent in quite a while.

Nice Printer
Pros: Very fast, Duplex, Network, Good Quality what more could you ask for
Cons: Smooth grays are hard to get but cant expect that from a monochrome printer
Other Thoughts: Got this printer for $39 at work had marked them down for like 3 days and I jumped all over it also at one point they had toner at $19 should have bought that then also

Beware of What You're Buying
Pros: Great printer if you limit the number of pages per print job.
Cons: This printer overheats/fails printing large, but low text print jobs (200+ invoices with approximately 80 words per page). Samsung technical support nothing but rude, claiming this printer is not designed to print large jobs. Based on this model's performance, I couldn't agree more. Great job Samsung.
Other Thoughts: Great Newegg service.

Very Nice Printer
Pros: I used to buy only HP's but that is no longer the case. Samsung has caught up with them with this printer. Installation was a breeze. Prints duplex, envelopes, you name it. Print quality is very good (nice and dark at 1200dpi). Some HP don't print as dark and cost hundreds more.
Cons: A instrument panel would have been nice.
Other Thoughts: Comes with toner, I bought a replacement anyway. Printer is used in a workgroup, seems to handle the load just fine. No paper jams yet. Cartridge is a easy to install/change.

this printer is awesome
Pros: This is an excellent printer especially for the sale price. It was easy to install and it is definitely quiet. I love the network capability. It did include an ink cartridge even though it says it doesn't.
Cons: I wish it had come with a network cable (but you can't have everything I guess). The documentation is a little slim but anyone with half a brain can figure it out.

A good printer
Pros: software in CD is compatible with vista. It's easy to setup and config out of the box. The software automatically detects the IP address of this printer and installs software without any problem. It prints fast.
Cons: No included USB and Ethernet cable. Front 'samsung' door is not probably in place but a litle sanding will do the job.
Other Thoughts: if you don't care about color, this network printer is a good investment.

Excellent Printer
Pros: Great Linux support (there is a linux PPD file/driver on the CD). It was also very easy to set up. I was up and running five minutes after I opened the box. The duplexer works great. It has both Ethernet and USB connections. Absolutely great product.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: I don't think I've ever owned a more promising printer. This thing is LIGHTNING fast at 600dpi. It gives high-quality printouts and duplexing works well. I was surprised how fast the duplexer works. I didn't have any trouble finding replacement toner cartridges from it -- they are available from several web sites.

A little more info would have been nice
Pros: Works as advertised.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I wish the built in ip address would have been a little easier to find.

Lots of features
Pros: Came with starter/standard toner cartridge. Setup CD worked well. Network access with a browser reveals many, many options for setting defaults (duplex, toner saver, enhanced text, 600/1200, static IP, SNMP, email notification...) and retrieving info (toner life, pages printed, etc.). Compact, light-weight, most of the time quiet, fast printing simplex, prints duplex by running paper out the top and then pulling it back in which seems to work ok. Doesn't dim the lights like my old printer did.
Cons: Newegg didn't indicate that it came with toner cartridge and they were sold out so I looked around - cartridge was not carried locally nor very many places on-line (yet?).

Great Printer
Pros: Duplex, native PostScript, networking, Linux compatable, compact design, fast, quiet, internal paper tray, and on top of all that, it even prints well.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: Plug and play in Fedora 6 Linux using USB connection. Cups automatically chose the "Generic PostScript Driver", which works great and alows using the Duplex feature. I just had to set the default paper size and turn on dulexing in the printer options.

Defective after a week
Pros: Duplex printing, quiet, fast, works in Linux, compact to fit on desk next to monitor(when it is printing well)
Cons: started to print smudged page after a week
Other Thoughts: I was very impressed with this printer-I thought it was excellent-however one week the pages printed out with a smudge on the entire left margin-called Samsung customer support-after doing certain tests they determined that it was defective-I brought it to an authorized dealer to repair rather than send it back to Newegg-quite disappointed-hope it can be fixed-

Works Great!
Pros: Prints quickly and duplexing is great. Easy to hook up to your network, good bang for your buck. Printer is also very compact with the paper tray underneath and not sticking out.
Cons: Minimal readouts but this is not a big deal.
