Very nice AIO laser printer
Pros: I am very happy with the laser printer. Printing quality is very good. What impressed me most was the scanner-- the scanned photos look like digital ones.
Cons: none

Great multi-function machine!
Pros: Bought it 7/17/2008 for 150, today it cost $ 200. Great, awesome printer and copier. Very reliable. Just month ago got warning that toner level is low, so I will buy new cartridge for it.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: slow start - takes time to worm up, but its the same for all laser printers.

good all-in-one machine
Pros: compared to previous generation of Brother MFC's, the wake-up time is much shorter (no longer having to wait for the scan lamp to warm up); decent print speed; having a paper drawer instead of open paper tray in the back; compact size; good price (esp if you buy a refurbished unit with associated rebate).
Cons: Flimsy build compared to previous generation; can't use the document feeder for scanning; the gear/belt that moves the scan lamp is noisy; high consumable cost (it'd be cheaper to buy a refurbished unit, which comes with a new drum, than purchasing a new drum).

Fantastic!
Pros: Nice compact machine, works as expected and is quicker than I thought it would be, quiet enough to be put anywhere, easy enough to be used by whole family.
Cons: Keep running out of paper.
Other Thoughts: I love the laser printing. It's crisp, clear, highlightable - perfect for working documents. It beats inkjet anything. The cost is very reasonable also - so much so that it is not even an issue for us anymore (with ink jets our costs were so crazy we didn't want to use the machine). It's so cheap it feels free. I even let the kids make copies of whatever they want - What Fun!

Nice little machine
Pros: Print quality is better than expected. Prints fairly quickly and scans well. Also is compact, especially compared to our Canon. Best of all, it receives faxes perfectly so far, something that our Canon has never done.
Cons: A little flimsy. I had it sitting on a steel bookshelf and it made a loud ratcheting sound when it fed paper, apparently because the shelf flexed a little and was not perfectly flat. I put a piece of thin plywood underneath, problem solved. The software is a little odd but it just may be that I haven't gotten used to it yet.
Other Thoughts: Overall, I'm very happy with the unit. It was a shellshocker deal and a great value. I've never been a Brother fan so this unit has been a pleasant surprise.

Great Printer - Cant beat the Price
Pros: Laser printer Color Scanner -high resolution Flatbed and ADF Copier Fax Machine
Print, Scan and Fax from your computer - network your printer, scanner and faxing - from Windows 98-Server 2008/Mac/LINUX!!!!!!!! They support linux! Ubuntu/Suse/Fedora
Brother is a quality manufacturer.
Cannot beat the value on this.
Cons: There are NO CONS.
Possible negatives- Build quality is a little flimsy but its $109 - what do you want? Titanium? The unit itself is 20lbs and not rickety or anything but some component panels are a little thin, not fragile but not what you'd find on a 90's era HP laser printer, but remember those things weigh a ton.
Other Thoughts: Do not listen to people who say this can't be networked to scan or fax. I have this printer networked via a Trendnet TE100-MP2U (newegg) and Windows Server 2008 x64 via USB. I can send and receive faxes, scan and print- as can any user on the network.
All these features can be shared via Linux, Windows and Mac. I didnt even need the driver disk for Win2008. I replaced an 8yr old Brother fax machine that still works and a flatbed scanner and laserjet printer. Now I have all 3 functions plus fax server/modem features in the footprint of the printer with a few more inches in thickness. Works flawlessly with Vonage- VOIP. Generates a little noise when warming up, silent in sleep mode.
Nothing you can say bad about this. The next step up is the wireless model and IMO it isn't worth the 90 bucks. The trendnet print server te100-mp2u is 60 bucks and you can connect external storage to it via usb.
Firmware upgrade available at Brother's site.

Amazing Printer!
Pros: Well, Amazing printer. Installation was piece of cake. I also set it up as a network printer and it works flawlessly. No issues whatsoever. I am CIS Server Administrator/Networking major and believe me this printer just works.
Cons: I don't think I'll find one.
Other Thoughts: Newegg is awesome!!! Got the item in 2 days. I payed 109$ + Free shipping. Thanks Newegg!!! I buy everything from Newegg! Decided to upgrade from Brother 1430.

Good Deal
Pros: Price; MFC, flat bed; Laser
Cons: Not cheaper :-)
Other Thoughts: This is an entry level laser MFC and the price says it all. At this sale price, this is a good buy.
I do not understand what people are complaining with this printer. Should not expect what you can get from a $300 MFC....

Website charging more than once
Pros: None, that I can see. Reason below
Cons: I selected a Qty: 1 of these with the confirmation order saying I bought one. I've printed it out before I left for school, but they charge me for four printers later. I don't mean this to be negative, but hope they resolve this issue. I was very careful when I ordered.
Other Thoughts: Beware of using this website when ordering. They need to contact their order department and fix this. I'm caling them in the morning.

Much better choices out there, notwithstanding the cheap price on this one
Pros: Print quality is good, toner refills can be had cheap (about the cost of a case of decent beer for a 2-pack refill) via the big online auction site, although you'll need to buy a part - a flag gear - to use to refill the starter toner cartridge that comes with the printer. Pretty quick sheet feeder. Copy function works well, better than my old HP inkjet AIO.
Cons: Horrible at handling envelopes - the guides don't hold them in place very well and unless you carefully manually guide it into the manual feed slot, you'll end up with a crooked address and a return address that is so crooked, part of it will be cut off the edge of your envelope. My unit has started malfunctioning, with "Paper jam" messages popping up every other time I try to print, when there is no paper jam at all. Front cover won't close all of the way - it's 5mm ajar on one side and won't snap all of the way closed. Mine has also started having problems where it simply won't print until I cancel all documents in the print queue, shut the machine off and then turn it back on.
Other Thoughts: It's really economical, but considering the headaches I've had with mine, I'm kind of regretting buying this. I'd go with a different brand unless you only use it occasionally and won't use it to print envelopes.

Great Home Multifunction
Pros: For the home user, this is a fantastic little (well, it's not that small) multifunction machine. You get an ADF, fax, flatbed scanner, decent print speeds, inexpensive toner, and decent print quality for a Shell Shocker Price.
Cons: Just a few to be aware of; this is a dated machine, which was designed years ago. There is no network print port, and while an external print server will allow you to *print* over a network, scanning and faxing will be out of the question. Brother designed the next model up, the MFC-7820N for that purpose. Also, the paper output slot is extremely small and it can be cumbersome for people with large hands to get the printed paper easily. Printed pages also have a curve to them after being printed; most inexpensive lasers tend to perform similarly, however.
Other Thoughts: For the price, you can't beat this unit. Regardless of what the monthly duty cycle may say (10k), you'll really only want to put a max of about 1k pages/month through this one. It runs hot after about 25 pages and if you're looking to do that much volume, you can save money on consumables by going with the next model up (which has 5000 page toners). The price alone, however, would even justify this unit for use as a standalone fax machine. Has a nice sleep mode after a few minutes that uses very little power so you don't need to turn it off. All in all a great unit, don't get this for serious business use and you will not be disappointed.

4 years and still strong
Pros: Great design, near flawless performance (in my opinion), rarely gets paper jams (1-3 every 500-1000 pages), great toner saver, and good quality prints (except on some pictures, but that is expected). I have been able to print envelopes using the document feeder. The only thing I haven't tested is the fax since I didn't really need it.
Cons: The only thing, but it the case with many laser printers, loud start up when turning the power back on. Beyond that, none in 4 years.
Other Thoughts: I got this printer during my sophomore year in college (4 years ago). I had an earlier model, and it's drum died far before it should have (faulty). I had a warranty on it so I went to where I bought it to get it fixed, but instead, they gave me this printer. I have not had a single issue with it. I have printers close to 10,000 and am only on the second toner cartridge. I love this printer because it has been with me through most of my years in college and is still going strong (it should have majored in something).

Not good for envelopes
Pros: Does the job except for ONE major design flaw
Cons: This printer does not print envelopes well even when brand new. It prints a fairly drk ghost print on envelopes an inch or two left of the original printing. If you subscribe to stamps.com or endicia.com DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER.
Other Thoughts: Of course, Brother blames the problem on the "drum," alleging that we're using a worn drum or cartridge.
WRONG. This occurred when the machine was brand new.

Wonderful little machine
Pros: I bought this because I needed a scanner with a good sheet feeder. I read the reviews and it seemed this would work for my needs. Well it did not disappoint. I have scanned about 600 pages so far. The sheet feeder works very well once I realized not to put the paper in too far. The printer and copier function are excellent. I have 2 other Brother laser printers and I love all of them.
Cons: No cons I can think of. Great little machine.
Other Thoughts: I haven't used the fax function. I doubt I ever will either. All the other functions work very well so I am sure that the fax will work also.

Got it at a discount
Pros: Fast, clear, quiet printing. Copier and scanner works really well too.
Cons: Only thing is...after lots of printing weird smell emits from printer, and it raises ambient temp. Comes with the territory though.

Pros: I have never been disappointed with newegg. Received the coppier in three days. This machine is very good. Easy to operate and install. I'm very pleased with the unit. I have used other Brother equipment and find it top quality.
Cons: No so far.
Other Thoughts: I can recommend this machine to any one. There should be no reason to expect anything but success using this machine.

Got Laser?
Pros: 20 ppm, easy setup, LASER Fax/Printer/Copier/Scanner. What more could you ask for? Cheaper toner? Well they have that also, but even at its current price, is about same cost as ink, and get more pages with it.
Cons: On this thing, nothing.
Other Thoughts: Got tired of paying so much for ink for my old multi-function printer, to print slower, and have problems with it. I don't use color that often, so this was perfect. For twice the price for ink for my old one, I got this, and its starting toner pack can do approximately 1,500 pages, versus approximately 400 pages with my old ink. Cost wise, THIS is an investment that you won't be disappointed with. I'm glad I switched from inkjet to laser.

Great multi-function machine!
Pros: F A S T! This thing prints very fast, and in toner save mode the documents look just as good, and it uses much less toner. Inexpensive toner. Great for sending and receiving faxes. The auto document feeder is perfect for scanning into pdf files and the copy feature is a great bonus that I didn't even know I needed until I had it, now I couldn't live without it.
Cons: The lights do dim down a bit when it first starts up, but thats no huge deal. On rare occasion after it has been on standby for several days without being powered off, the computer wont recognize it (MAC os X) until I turn the printer off and back on, but then things return to normal. I don't have this problem when using it on the PC, so maybe just a software glitch.
Other Thoughts: Great printer for price, it costs as much as a plain laser printer, but it has all the multi-function options and they all work great and the toner is priced very reasonable, especially from newegg.

Great multifunction printer!
Pros: Fast printing, very good quality. Many customizable options for scanning. Making copies has never been so easy! Remanufactured / third party toner is cheap!
Cons: It's loud, comes with a starter cartridge, and uses a ton of power (lights on the same power strip will flicker!)

Excellent for what it is!
Pros: I work for a small business and we just replaced an old inkjet all-in-one for this unit. I print, copy, and fax ALL DAY and this printer has without a doubt increased my productivity. I had it set up in less than 15 minutes. The quick start guide was easy to follow and with the PRINTED manual (rare these days) I had the advanced fax functions set up and ready in no time (we use a multi-line phone system and a seperate dedicated machine for receiving incoming faxes). The large paper tray keeps me from having to 'feed' it several times per day, and the software installed quickly with no problems (Win XP Pro). I can't say enough good things about this unit. You will not be disappointed!
Cons: It's LOUD! This is by far the loudest laser printer I've ever encountered (since this isn't an issue for me in my work I didn't let it count against my overall rating).
Other Thoughts: This is a one-person machine. I can print, copy, and fax for 8 hours straight with no problems but the small output tray makes it unacceptable for use as a shared or workgroup printer. Just use it for its intended purpose and you won't be disappointed!

Excellent MFC, Great Value
Pros: Fast, excellent print quality, easy setup.A real workhorse.
Cons: They all do it, but I resent these "Starter Toner Cartridges" that come with unit and produce about 1/3 the number of prints of standard cartridge.
Other Thoughts: Brother is a quality Laser printer. I also own an HL1440 ,monochrome printer only, for about 3 years and never have had a problem.

Great Little Printer
Pros: Great fast prints & scans, very easy to use, very function, not too big.
Cons: A little slow warming up, not super quiet but not too noisy either.
Other Thoughts: Have had no problems, has run great for six months of regular use. Highly recommended.

My Brother
Pros: I did my research for a multi function laser printer, came down to this one or HP equivilant. I am very happy I bought this one! Honestly no complaints, it is quite, fast and has a rather small foot print. I use Windows XP and this was a simple plug and play set up. Print quality is excellent.
Cons: While not an issue for me, if you print large documents (50+pages) it might be a problem since the "holding tray" is internal. However, this design is why it has a small foot print.

Very Satisfied so far...
Pros: Clean copies Toner is inexpensive Relatively fast
Cons: Up until today no problems. I had the usb port appear to go out on me and I ended up putting a parallel cable in. Output tray is very small and doesn't stick out very far which may be a PRO if you're tight on space.
Other Thoughts: We abuse this printer daily. It's used in our receiving department and copies, faxes, and prints very well after 3 or 4 months of use/abuse. We will definitely buy more in the future.

Great Printer
Pros: I bought the OEM and it works perfect. The printer is alot faster than my old HP inkjet, the scanner and copier quality is really good.
Cons: No shocker but in case you were wondering it doesn't come with a USB cable to connect to your computer.
Other Thoughts: I read the quick start directions it came with to install the printer and they were no good. The drivers didn't install correctly. Anyway, I went back and let XP detect it automatically and then installed the driver when prompted by XP and I've had no problems since.

Very fast laser printer, with excellent quality
Pros: I can't believe how fast this printer prints my 30-35 page documents. Quiet, works well, and has a very small foot-print.
Cons: The plastic this model is made from seems "flimsy" in critical areas. Seems to me that if brother used "thicker" plastic this would be a very sturdy unit.
Other Thoughts: Prints in excellent quality. Dont hesitate in buying this printer. Fax works great, scanner is fast, and overall I rate this printer 9.9 out of 10

Very good - owned 1+ year
Pros: Very fast. Works well with Mac. Reliable and good pdf scanning to email.
Cons: None, really. The only complaint is that the output tray isn't great for many page documents.
Other Thoughts: This thing has been worth every penny of the $xxx I paid for it.
