Great Product for it's Price!
Pros: Great product! Prints clearly, fast, and quality. You get what you pay for! It's not expensive, so I don't expect it to have an inside paper tray, or a network interface. Overall, the product was great. Drivers installed quickly on Windows 7.
Cons: Paper sometimes has little crease marks in the center when coming out. After a while they go away though. It's just from the pressure of the wheels on the exit bay area.
Other Thoughts: I've been using this printer for a cheap and easy solution to home-etch circuit boards.. it works like a charm!

Great Printer
Pros: I use this in my office, and it's been saving me a lot of money not having to buy ink every few weeks! Great printer for the price! Very quick to install and use.
Cons: Makes a bit of noise, but no more than most laser printers on the market.

A great entry printer
Pros: It's cheap, and it works!
Cons: I've purchased about 5 ~ 6 of these for my work, and they have not been easy to install. I've used the CD, and the drivers downloaded from HP. They just don't want to get installed easy. I've had to reboot a few times, I've had to remove it, and reinstall it, I've seen a blue screen...
Maybe it's just on my part, but I haven't had much luck installing.
Other Thoughts: But once it's installed, it's solid. I don't see paper jam much, and it's been dependable.

Good Deal!!
Pros: Laser printer for under $100 bucks!!!
Toner doesn't dry out like inkjets.
Cons: Toner is expensive.
Other Thoughts: If you don't print often and find yourself buying ink to print when you do save money with this affordable laser printer.

Great little printer
Pros: Cheap and it works. If you need basic black and white printing, look no further.
Cons: Do your homework. If you need to print 20,000 pages a month, its not the machine to get.
Other Thoughts: Some dope commented that it does not work in a Terminal Server setup... duhh. Do your homework; there are a limited number of APPROVED printers. This is not one of them. A word of advise anyhow - don't use Windows for printing! Thats right. Get SCREWDRIVERS, a total Terminal Server, Citiix, Remote Desktop printing solution. You will be able to print using anything!
Another muttenhead said it does not work with a print server... duhhh. Do your homework (kind of a theme here?).
Then we have the CNK's (Certified Network Knuckleheads) that rating it on the "starter" toner cartridge. It costs money to stay in business. It is to make sure you buy another toner sooner rather than later. PS: there are re-loaded carts made.

Don't plan on ordering aftermarket cartridges.
Pros: Available just about everywhere.
Cons: Forget about using aftermarket toner cartridges. I have several HP 1020/1022 printers, and have always purchased aftermarket toner cartridges. They cost about 70% less than the HP cartridge. BUT, THE P1006 uses a cartridge that, I can only guess, has some sort of chip in it that prevents aftermarket producers from offering aftermarket cartridges.
Other Thoughts: The HP cartridges will cost you a fortune if you print much.

WORKS IN WIN7
Pros: The Win7 Drivers are on HPs website, but the CD also installs drivers that work for x64 Vista +. Running Win7 x64 ultimate here, no issues with the new drivers. So go ahead and buy it cuz it works in Win7. Small footprint for a laser printer. Installed and printed test page in 5 min.
Cons: no USB cable -- costs a whole $3 retail so why can't HP throw one in to complete the package?
Other Thoughts: You can use the CD that comes with it, I did and it installed a driver that worked w/ my Win7 x64, but I went ahead and downloaded the Win7 drivers from HP instead to make sure its all good.
Its all good.

Gets the job done.
Pros: Way cheaper than the local office supply store or other big retailer. Works fine for the office. Easy installation. Actually, it was too easy.
Cons: Do we really need a video installation guide on the CD? If people can't read, why would they need a printer. HP really dumbed it down. Whatever. Comes with a starter toner cartridge, not a full one. No network capabilities, but it was only $100, so can't complain.
Other Thoughts: Don't forget to order the USB cable and full toner cartridge with this printer.

Does NOT work in Windows 7
Pros: NONE
Cons: Does not work in Windows 7. I purchased this because HP stopped supporting the HP 1000 and HP 1300 in Windows 7. To my surprise, this new model isn't supported either.

Good Printer But Beware
Pros: The printer works great but beware.
Cons: As of today HP has not put any Windows 7 drivers on there website. Hopefully they will be on there soon, HP is promising late Nov.
Other Thoughts: They had all these months to put out drivers, what are they waiting for?

This Printer Is Awful
Pros: - Cheap - Decent Speed - USB - Small
Cons: - Poor construction - Broke easily - Sleep function incompatible with a lot of NAS and other network print server systems
Other Thoughts: I got this printer for very light duty printing at my house over my wireless network. I tried to tie it into my ReadyNAS Duo and a few other print servers I had here. Its sleep function would not let it wake up correctly. I would have to plug it into a netbook to wake it up, plug it back into the print servers, then race to print everything out before it went back to sleep. On top of that, after about printing 200 pages, something broke inside. I get errors constantly and it refuses to connect to any computer now. As always, low-end HP is trash. Stick with their hi-end stuff.

Good but No Windows 7 Drivers
Pros: It is a great little laser printer I have no complaints. Have used it at sevral locations.
Cons: Still No windows 7 Support. I just bout one 2 weeks ago and could not believe HP has still not updated the drivers on there site.
Other Thoughts: Get Some Drivers for Windows 7 HP.

Great
Pros: Faster than ink
Cons: None unless it stops working
Other Thoughts: For home use it's been great. I use to have so many problems with ink jets. Now when I hit print, the printer actually prints and that's the end of it.

Great printer, works great with Linux
Pros: Great printer, very simple, very fast. Works great with Linux. I've got two running on two different Slackware 12.2 boxes. Perfect if you only need black and white and are tired of paying crazy high ink prices.
I've only put 62 pages through it so far, but it's been great!
Cons: None so far. I did have one paper jam with cheap paper when there was only a few pages left to feed in, but I don't think it's a real issue. With nicer paper, I've never had a jam.

Goof Balls
Pros: For those who give this printer one egg for not working with Windows 7 ...GROW UP!!!!! It's not the printers fault, it's your fault!! Dont buy Windows 7 thinking everything is going to work like magic, it didnt when windows xp came out or windows 95 or windows me or MS Vista....wait a while before changing your OS if not, you'll always have PROBLEMS!!!
Cons: None, HP is one of the best
Other Thoughts: Wait before jumping to a new operating system, let the manufactures work out their programs and drivers first...maybe 6 months to a year...just make sure the drivers will work before the purchase

WILL NOT WORK W/ WIN 7
Pros: Works GREAT with my Windows XP boot.
Cons: Will not work at ALL with WIN 7
Very loud
Other Thoughts: FYI all, make sure you can dual boot to XP so you can do your work.
HP claims they may have driver for this device by mid November. If not this purchase goes back to newegg
Good luck having to purchase all new perfs for win 7

Bad Drivers
Pros: Small, compact, reasonably fast.
Cons: The drivers refuse to remember the printer has paper. This requires a re-install of the driver. This happens about every 10 days since upgrading to XP Pro SP3. Checked the HP website and have the latest drivers. I'm buying a DIFFERENT printer and trashing this one...
Other Thoughts: We use this printer specifically to print checks. The check printing software company specifically recommended this printer for someone's desktop. I generally avoid low end HP printers because of driver problems. This model is the worst I've encountered. The company ONLY supports HP printers so I'm moving up to the HP P2035 to see if it works a tad better.

HP Entry Level Printers have gone down hill
Pros: When working, this little animal kicks out pages quicker than I can count. HP Laser quality is unsurpassed and the toner cartridge included (even being a starter one), provided greater longevity than I expected. As always, Newegg got this to me quick, even with the free shipping promotion. Thanks guys.
Cons: Shortly after it's one year anniversary, this thing died. I mean power goes on, the lights go on, but nobody is home trying it on several computers and a print server. DEAD! Similar quality dissatisfaction was also provided with a couple previous models including the HP 1018 and 1020 laserjet models in the same class as the P1006. The MSRP of $179 is insane for this, the Newegg price-break makes it attractive but even though it has that HP logo, doesn't mean it will perform like one would expect.
Other Thoughts: These home based laser printers from HP are very disappointing. Find yourself a nice little Samsung or Brother in the $50+ range here at newegg and save yourself some money and headaches. Note this quality on the home class is not related to their business class pro printers. When I can walk into a discount computer store & grab a Samsung or Minolta color laser printer for less than the MSRP of this P1006 b&w HP, makes you wonder what HP is thinking.

Missing parts
Pros: HP did not include the user's guide or the driver CD. The labeling on the box states what the contents are, but these two items were MIA. I'm sure it will work well once I get the driver CD.
Cons: Just another hassle from HP when it comes to printing. Thanks for not updating or adding a driver for my last laser printer when Vista came out. Now that I ordered a new printer - supposedly Vista compatible - I'm still hosed by HP.

Pros: Bought for my mom for Mothers Day this year, from Staples - just because it was on sale for $69.99 and I had $50 in Staples rewards but thats besides the point.
She does medical transcription and she had been using an ancient HP inkjet printer for years that would print a page per minute if she was lucky... So after guilt tripping myself into getting this, I bought it for her. Man should I have done that sooner. 17 ppm might be an understatement. It is quick. Prints out all 100 - 150 pages in about 5 minutes. It just keeps spitting them out.
Does work with Vista. People who say it don't are... mentally challenged aparently. 1) Plug in USB cable to computer 2) Turn printer on 3) Wait for the Windows "found new hardware" program to come up 4) Insert HP Driver disk 5) Tell Windows to "install from disk"
Five Easy steps.
Three months of heavy printing, still on the "starter" cartridge.
Great printer. Great Buy.
Cons: I miss the laser printer smell on the freshly printed sheets of paper.
Other Thoughts: As I said: Great Printer. Great Buy.
If you need a small, compact B&W printer to print documents all day, this is your printer. Yeah, you don't get alot of bling, or alot of features. But what you do get is a solid, sturdy, lightning fast printer.
It is worth every penny.
Buy it.

Vista
Pros: It prints surprisingly well for the price and is pretty fast. It does print with Vista unlike a comment earlier in the post suggests... I am running Vista 64 bit and I am able to print to the P1006 just fine.
Cons: Not really a con, but would be nice if the paper tray was fully internal...but for it's small size, that is not possible.

Update from Last Review
Pros: Still works great under Ubuntu 9.04. Drivers are now in repo and no more manual install.
Cons: When the printer runs out of paper in ubuntu, it ceases to function. It's waiting to send the "I have paper now" signal to CUPS but CUPS never hears it. I must boot into Windows and use the "Print Test Page" to get it cleared out again for Ubuntu.
I have not tested this workaround in VirtualBox.
Other Thoughts: This thing has been a dream. For anyone thinking that they use a lot of ink in their printer, switch to laser jet. I never used my half-full sample toner- I bought a full one right away and I have YET to replace it.
This thing has saved me money.

Pros: Small footprint. Good speed. First page starts printing very quickly.

Work Horse!!
Pros: quick printing, great price on Newegg, quality printing, no problems yet with my high volume of school printing.
Cons: occasionally it takes the printer more than one try to feed the paper. not really an issue.
Other Thoughts: this is an amazing little work horse. I bought it to use for school, through an online program. This means I get to print A LOT. (In 6 mos I've plowed through 2 ink cartridges, which are good for "1500 sheets"!, but I've printed many powerpoint presentations, so it's gone a bit quicker.) For someone who wants an inexpensive b/w printer with little hassle, this is a GREAT selection. Thank you HP and Newegg!

HP
Pros: Do you want something very cheap and prints this is what you looking for. Good printer for the price
Cons: HP what the hell of all this software for one printing job. I really don't like hp software. it is simple printing and you have to install all this junk applications and they have bugs all the time.

Almost a year and still strong
Pros: Prints cleanly and fairly quick. Small footprint --> I have it set up in my dinky office between two rows of ventilated shelving and it fits nicely. Same footprint as a ream of paper. Noise level is negligible. Print quality is reliable. Works fine on my laptop (Vista32Premium) and desktop (Vista64Premium). I have it set up on the desktop using a powered USB hub. Haven't had any problems with networked printing.
Cons: A little hard to get it to feed envelopes but not impossible. Not really a con but worth noting. Comes with starter cartridge but that is to be expected with any printer. HP inks are sort of pricey but you can shop around.
Other Thoughts: Overall please with this printer. I haven't tried to thick "card stock" but then again I use it as an office printer, not for arts & crafts.
Download the most recent drivers for your specific operating system before you install this. It will make it easier in the long run. That holds true for just about any hardware you buy.

If you enjoy PAIN, sure buy it
Pros: cheap - which is the reason it stinks. When it works the output is nice, and not too slow.
Cons: IT IS A HOST BASED PRINTER - in crude terms your computer does the page rendering (so HP saves on the printer's components and can make it cheap). So it will NOT work as a networked printer well, if at all. The HP rendering drivers are buggy and jam up the print spooler in Vista and XP. HP support either does not recognize a problem exists, or routes you to a generic many step process to re-set your printer and spooler. If you buy this printer you will get to know the many step re-set process by heart, since you will be performing it several times a day if you print a lot.

Great Printer Can Print Share
Pros: Printer is fast and economical when compared with inkjets. I had no problem setting up print share on a Vista computer networked wirelessly to two XP machines. As long as each computer is in the same workgroup you should have no problems print sharing. The computer directly connected to the printer needs to be on to enable printing though.
Cons: Description is accurate there are no con's.

I rikey
Pros: This thing is so money it doesn't even know it. I was set on a nice all-in-one fancy schmancy color inkjet but a friend swayed me to go laserjet and strongly recommended HP. It may be monochrome and single function but I have no regrets. Easy setup and super quick. Virtually no warm-up time. 8 seconds? I can spare 8 seconds.
Cons: Nein!
Other Thoughts: The box had a solid shipping ding in it but the excellent packing materials spared the printer and it emerged from the box without a scratch and has been operating perfectly. Strongly recommend.

Solid SOHO Laser Printer
Pros: This little laser printer is a great addition to any small office/home office. It has a great deal of features and is an excellent value.
-It's fast -It's small (think toaster oven) -It's a great value (about $.05/page) -It holds a good amount of paper (about 120-150 sheets) -Has a secondary input for feeding other media types (tray) -Did I mention it's fast? (just over 3 seconds a page) -Does not have the weird "laser printer smell"
Cons: Does not come with a USB cable. Have an extra laying around or purchase one with the printer. Newegg has a nice long one at item #: N82E16812120004.
HP software is piggy. Don't use it unless you need to do picture editing or modify advanced printer settings. Simply plug in the printer, wait for the Add New Hardware Wizard to run, then insert the CD at the page that prompts you to and wait. Cancel any auto-run installs from the HP CD.
Other Thoughts: Driver software has some neat features. Another reviewer mentioned the watermark.
Overall this printer is a nice and neat way to increase your printing abilities and decrease the wait. Its small size allows it to sit on the desk, or on a file cabinet.
Replacement cartridge retails for about $70 at my local office supply store, and yields about 1,500 pages. You can buy from Newegg for less with this item #: N82E16828115091

Pros: small size doesn't take up much room. good print quality for the price. the eggs service and quick shipping
Cons: I made an assumption that this printer was similar to the 1010 / 1020 series printers IT IS NOT. This and all the P1000 series and for that mater any HP Host Based only driver printer will not work as a Remote desktop / Terminal Service printers. The host based drivers from hp are not compatable with the windows print spoolers and clog up the entire process. If you need a printer to use in the above senario or as a shared network printer according to HP, Don't even look at this one move on to a printer that has PCL or native network capable.
Other Thoughts: research research research. Even with as many years of tech background I have I still found myself in error on this one because I didn't research deep enough.

Great little printer!
Pros: This is a wonderful little printer. I say "little" because it is very compact and takes up very little desk space. The print quality is first class, as is the paper handling.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: This particular printer which I just bought from Newegg is the third one of these I've owned. My wife has had one about two years, and I bought one for my mother 2-3 months ago. The older two printers have worked perfectly since day-one, as has this new one.

Does not work with Vista!
Pros: None for Vista
Cons: It printed about 10 pages on Vista, then stopped printing. HP Tech Support said it was a known Vista bug and refused to support or help us fix the problem.
Other Thoughts: Why does HP claim this printer works on Vista????

HP LaserJet P1006
Pros: Very good printer for home use at an affordable price. Print speed quite fast and low energy consumption.
Cons: OEM toner cartridge is half capacity. Soon you will have to buy a replacement cartridge, which costs almost as much as this printer does.
Other Thoughts: I like HP printers for print quality.

Nice little printer
Pros: I bought this to replace a LaserJet P1006 for which there are no Vista drivers (stupid HP!). It does a nice job on printing text and monochrome/greyscale graphics, starts up quickly and prints pretty fast. Having owned several HP LaserJets, I'm pretty much sold on their print and build quality. I still can't believe that you can get an HP LaserJet at this price (having started with original HP LaserJets that ran $3K and higher and didn't print nearly as good as this).
Cons: I understand that HP, like all other vendors, has to work hard to get the lowest possible retail price, but I do hate the "low capacity"cartridges that come with new, entry-level laserjet-type printers.
Other Thoughts: I keep an inkjet printer and a LaserJet printer side-by-side on my desktop. I almost never use the inkjet printer unless I just HAVE to have color. The cost-per-page is so much lower on the LaserJet printer, the consumables don't need replacing nearly as often and the print quality just can't be beat by any inkjet I've ever seen. If only color laserjet-style printers had affordable consumables and better print quality, I'd drop them both for a color LaserJet. Though color LaserJets are dropping in price, I just don't think they are there yet, quality-wise.

Great substitute for lowend inkjets
Pros: Smaller footprint. Low-cost vs ANY inkjet for letter writing. Nothing fancy to confuse my elderly neighbor. Does what she needs and will continue to do so without my constant presence!!
Cons: CD was designed for the XP and newer environment. I had to install it on a Windows ME system without the cd's wizard and without help of "readme" files and no internet connection. There are Win 9x drivers, but it requires digging and persistence. I finally got the drivers for the 1005 to work. After that, no issues.
Other Thoughts: If you try to add this to a 9x system, download the HP universal drivers first. Bring them on a flash drive if necessary. That's what I would have done, if I had been smarter.

Too Noisy for Me
Pros: Compact, fast, easy to set up. I appreciate that it actually has a power button on it.
Cons: NOISY! It "clunks" something horrid when feeding paper. I called HP and they were willing to replace it with a REFURBISHED unit.
My gosh, I've only had it a few weeks. Why in the world would I want a refurb? So I am returning it to Newegg for replacement.
Other Thoughts: I think there are better choices than HP for small inexpensive printers.
Thank you Newegg for a decent customer service experience.

Great printer for the money
Pros: Fast printing, quality is good. No hassle drivers. Small desk footprint.
Others have complained about the sound, but I believe they exaggerate the noise level expecting it to be like an inkjet.
Cons: Toner cartridges almost as much as the printer. At pagecount of 4500, I just installed the 4th new cartridge.
Other Thoughts: Even at 1,000 pages per cartridge for $60ish, you're still ahead of the inkjet game that typically yields 200 pages for a $20 black cartridge

Pros: - toner lasts forever - quick to print - HP has linux drivers* - works as home network**
Cons: - semi noisy - toner is expensive (I went with the combo deal here on newegg which was the priner+extra toner for $120 and after 1 year I haven't opened the replacement toner yet... Given $40 for a barrel of toner it will last a good year or three)
Other Thoughts: * wouldn't work with pre-installed hp drivers had to goto HP's website and follow their instructions; easy but a little intimidating for non-terminal savvy users.
** first had it on a XP desktop and my XP laptop (connected to same local network) found and installed it no problems. Haven't bothered now that it is connected to the linux comp but I'm sure it will with a little googling.
Cheap and reliable Laserjet.

Okay Printer
Pros: Laserjet Printer under *** dollars free shipping but still got it in 3 days did i mention it's laserjet? HP name?
Cons: Prints come out at decent speeds, it takes a good 15-20 seconds to start up, when it does start up it sounds like a helicopter or jet engine is starting up so it's very loud. likes to roll like it's going to take another piece of paper before and after the print job has been finished. multiple jobs take this printer a good 30 seconds to process before actually starting the job. and the replacement drum is almost as expensive as printer which is major con
Other Thoughts: wish this printer would be sort of quieter? but when can you expect from a monochrome? and it could print faster and start up faster as well

Great Deal
Pros: HP is always the best for printing, I have an old Laserjet 1012, and this is a step above that. FAST first page, and clarity is amazing. Worth the price!
Cons: only thing I can think of is if they had a way to close it up with the paper inside of it, would be a huge space saver, but nothing major.
Other Thoughts: For your every day home printing or for a college student, perfect buy.

Won't print through print share
Pros: Good print quality Pretty Fast Small Footprint Inexpensive
Cons: Can't print through print share heard reports of others having problems printing through print server
Other Thoughts: Be sure to do research if you plan on using print share or server. You're probably better off choosing a network printer.

Decent little printer
Pros: Prints well and low cost. Toner lasts pretty long for my needs. Good personal mono laser printer.
Cons: Don't even try to network it using print servers. HP just didn't intend this to function unless connected via USB to a PC. Doesn't even work on HP print servers. I got one print server to work by turning off Bi-directional support on the printer but then it doesn't handshake with the software and generally doesn't work well.
Other Thoughts: You would be better off buying the Brother HL-2170W. Its faster and can be networked both wireless and wired to a router.

Neat little printer
Pros: Zippy machine. Warm-up is fast and the pages just pour out. I had two old HP laser printers and was used to slow warmup and high power consumption. Not to mention how unpleasant it is to move those suckers. This unit is a relief to have for some good, basic email and document printing. Besides, how far can you go wrong for 90 bucks?
Cons: Does run a bit noisy, but it is only light plastic - and 90 bucks :) HP Toner is muy expensive, which they'd like you to buy. There are alternatives.

Not what I expected from HP
Pros: Good print quality, decent speed and good price (free for me).
Cons: No easy way to resume a print job in Mac (Leopard) after you run out of paper mid-job. Only has 2 buttons on the case, power and the job cancel button. End up having to cancel and reprint the document when you run out of paper. Also it seems to print "only when it wants to". About 50% of jobs hang at connecting.
Other Thoughts: My issues could be related to running the printer through my Airport Extreme, haven't tried it connected directly to my laptop.

HP's worst printer ..... EVER
Pros: It prints fast for the first page, then waits about 60 seconds to print the next page. Print quality is good. Price was good.
Newegg delivered fast... I love Newegg... what a time saver.
Cons: The delay in printing between pages. The driver that the printer comes with does not function well with XP. I tried to down load a better driver form HP, but the support site would not let me even with firewall off, antivirus off, popup blocker off. I had to chat with support person for 4 hours to get a new driver installed. The printer then stopped printing completely. Support person gave up. :o
Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this printer to anyone that I valued their friendship.
I managed to get it to print on my own by forcing XP to use the new driver. Deleted old driver and printer. It functions, but what a headache!

Good but no Print Server Support
Pros: Very good if you want to use this printer directly connected to the computer.
Cons: I tried using this printer with the builtin Print Server from my Asus Router WL500W, but no go. Many people on the forum also had the same frustration that I have. It seams that this printer is very problematic with wifi print servers. I think this is a big mistake from HP side because my Canon printer works just fine with the same print server. It is clear to me that HP dropped the ball here.

Great printer
Pros: Faster than expected. Not too noisy and really crisp printing. Actually very surprising for the sale price of $99.00.
Cons: No usb cable but most don't have them. Takes a long time to load drivers from the CD.
Other Thoughts: Small footprint on the desktop. Good for light to medium volume in a small office setting. Makes a good argument against network printers especially when you need to swap papers all the time.
One by one I have been switching all the printers in our office to HP and there has been nothing but good results. If my HP PSC ink jet at home would die (8 years now) I would be getting one of these for myself.

Little Personal Workhorse
Pros: High-mileage toner cartridges, good print quality.
Cons: This isn't really a con, but a warning for all...NEVER install HP drivers and apps from the included disk(s). ALWAYS download the latest software from the website, and not just for printers, but for EVERYTHING you buy. Most of the complaints here were generated by software, and not the hardware.
Other Thoughts: The only egg that can't be beat...Newegg.

Quality
Pros: This laser printer is designed to be a starter laser printer for the home and student market, that does not need wireless or color.
Very efficient for the home user. Low cost relative to other lasers. Small footprint. Fast printing. Everything a hobbyist, student, or even a home office user needs!
Cons: For anyone needing a network-based cross-platform solution, look elsewhere.
This is a Host-Based Driver. What this means is that cross-platform support is limited. Network-printing support is limited. Shared Printing support is limited.
If you're printing via any form of shared printing (network, OS-level sharing, or otherwise), you may encounter an error where it runs out of paper mid-print, and you don't get a message on any screen. Just open the cartridge access door and close it again, and it will resume printing.
Other Thoughts: I've had this thing for 6-8 months. I only just today replaced the included starter toner with a new in box one. Page count on the status page printout showed over 1000 pages printed to date. Not too bad for a starter cartridge.
Wonderful for the designed target audience.
HP's Specifications indicate the following: - Recc. Monthly Yield: 250 to 1500 pages - Duty Cycle: 5000 pages

Great for the price
Pros: It is great to have these printers in everyone's office. Saves people time so that they are not running to the big laserjet all the time. Seems to have better Mac compatibility than the 1020's we have.
Cons: Still has some of the issues from the old 1020 series. Like occasionally one of them will "smoke" when you're only printing out a page or two. That will scare your average office worker. It doesn't seem to cause any major issue though.

College Student's Dream
Pros: Fast to first print, sips toner, doesn't heat up nearly as much as other laserjet's I have used. Heat warping of paper is minimal compared to many low priced inkjets.
Cons: Driver's on the CD are not the best for mac. I'd recommend downloading the drivers on the web site if you have a mac. The default windows drivers work just fine. I'm being picky here, but there is no dust protector for the paper bay.
Other Thoughts: I am a full time college student. Between lab reports and... more lab reports, I probably print 30-50 pages a week. The $30 inkjet cartridges were becoming a monthly expense. I finally caved and bought this laser printer. After one week of full duty my toner (starter cartridge) is still at 95% capacity. Thats an A+ in my book.

The P is for personal
Pros: Small Size, quiet operation (for a laser printer), quality printing and performance, world famous Hewlett Packard support and the mechanical design is excellent.
Cons: None really considering this is a personal laser printer and should not be expected to meet the demands of a business. Some complain about paper rolling, but 10+ years of certified laser printer repair experience will tell you that the quality of the paper is the cause, not this printer.
Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a quality "personal" laser printer, then this is the one. Hewlett Packard has years of experience building some of the best laser printers used by businesses the world over. Now you can have that experience in your home.

Pros: Very easy to setup and it took me longer to unpack the printer than to install ! Replace my HP 4L after 15 years service and very impressed the lightweight printer has offered with the low price ! With window home networking, I have three laptop pcs share this printer ! Awesome !
Cons: Don't have printer driver for old PC with Windows Me !

College Level Printer
Pros: This printer is not for someone who wants to do all sorts of specialized things with it. It's not fancy, its just your cheap average black and white laser printer. For anyone on a college budget this is a steal.
Cons: Drivers were downloaded, not on CD, easy to do if you know what you're doing.
Other Thoughts: Be sure not to forget to buy toner from Checksnet

Potential Print Server Solution!
Pros: When on sale an excellent price for basic home office or *very* small office print needs. Especially in lieu of smearing wet jets. Also, almost instant warm-up and print.
Cons: Typical HP - cheaper to toss the printer than to purchase new toner. A bit of a hassle getting it to work with print server.
Other Thoughts: For those struggling with the print server issues: First set up the printer directly on your Windows PC. Then on the Ports tab, add a new port with the address of your print server and the print server port. Now here's the important part: disable bi-directional communication. Voila! Worked like a charm on my DLINK DPR1260

Wooley Mammoth
Pros: Havent had any problems yet. Have yet to see a paper jam after 5000+ prints. Warms up extremely fast.
Cons: none.
Other Thoughts: We go through a lot of laser printers at my company and this so far has been one of the best laser printers that we have used yet.

What a waste
Pros: Price, print quality, speed
Cons: BEWARE: DOES NOT WORK WITH WIRELESS PRINT SERVERS!
Other Thoughts: It would be nice if the HP revealed the fact that this printer DOES NOT work with any wireless print servers.
Now I'm stuck w/a nice printer, but I don't have a PC to dedicate (or keep powered up 24/7) in order to print.

Great Laserjet for a Great Price!
Pros: Speed, quality, small footprint
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I really hate it when people review a product and give a lesser rating because the product doesn't meet their needs. Well who's fault is that now? If you knew anything about what you were buying then you'd make a smarter decision! This isn't a high output, high capacity laserjet. It's great for home or small office use. Which in my case is perfect because it's sole purpose is to print shipping labels from a single PC. Printing a high volume every day is going to kill the toner of a laserjet this small. Know your needs and buy accordingly. Don't buy something that doesn't meet your needs then give a lesser rating because you're an idiot.

Not bad - but not good
Pros: Purchased two of these on an open-box special fron NewEgg. They do work - there were no missing parts. One cartridge was used, and we had gotten two more with the printer. It prints. Install is pretty easy. It prints fairly quickly for a printer in this price range.
Cons: Toner usage is quite high - I'd say 3x our other lasers. Our toner company does not supply the cartridge for refills. There are a lot of driver issues in XP Pro, requiring restarts (drivers are up-to-date).
Other Thoughts: If I had to re-purchase this all over again, I'd go with a different HP. This one is very disappointing compared to their other products. It *works* - and would do fine for a small home office or personal laser. However, for a small company, or where many pages are printed per day (say 20-50), I'd recommend a different printer. A used HP 4L would probably be a godsend in comparison.

Good, fast, quality prints
Pros: This thing starts up extremely quick, less than 20 seconds and it's ready for a print job. Printing itself is very quick as well, seems like less than five seconds to print your average web page. Quality is very good for a grayscale laser, and the tone differences are enough to make out most nuances in color images. Really happy with the quality and speed of this unit.
Cons: Well, it took me a long time to get this thing installed. But I felt like a muffin when I realized that the printer was installed all along... Just call me a n00b.
Other Thoughts: Great printer, great quality, great speed. Not much more you could ask for in a less than $100 printer. I guess duplexing would be nice, but not this cheap.

I do not own this product.
Pros: Just sending out a what the huh? to the reviewer below. He goes off (apparently on Newegg), but does not define what actually went wrong. It certainly is not Neweggs fault that all the UN reviewers are low technical understanding. Each reviewer selects what level they are, it is not decided by Newegg. So, that argument isn't really valid.
Cons: n/a
Other Thoughts: When you have a complaint about a product or an issue with Newegg, it is fine to inform others of what happened, but your review tells us nothing about why you are so angry. That doesn't help anyone. Also, if you have a problem with the online order, they have extensive help. You can call them, email them and even live chat with them. I always recommend exhausting all the avenues, before resorting to an angry semi-incomprehnsible rant.

Works Fine
Pros: Small, low price
Cons: Was a bit problematic at first, it wouldn't print anything from office word with narrow margins.
Other Thoughts: Installing the latest drivers from HP solved a lot of problems, I shouldn't have even bothered installing the driver software from the included CD

Order fullfillment
Pros: NONE on this transaction... I don't want the product because the service sucks. I can afford 3x the price but, i can NOT afford the quality of order service this site delivered to me!
Cons: Frankly, the feedback site is slanted towards favorable feedback since any UN-favorable feedback only has a "Low Understanding" label... Feedback site is a joke, either fix it or NEVER, EVER get my business again. It's that simple, price is never an issue when value is received and value was NOT, repeat NOT received in this transaction.
I have no clue whether the product is good or bad, whether the service is good or bad and, frankly, I don't care! If I can't complete the order I'll find someone that cares about the experience.
Fix it or die, really, it's that simple!
Other Thoughts: Price is a factor... service and the website counts too... you seem not be quite tuned in to that part of the reality, it's an approach... it'll work for a while, especially if price is so low that no one can compete but, after a while other's will compete on the same price-point and deliver a real experience and your management do their best James Dean imitation and drive off a cliff.
Interesting but, I'm not interested in being part of that!

Great printer!
Pros: Price is right and works great!
Cons: toner cartridge could be cheaper.
Other Thoughts: If you are using Vista 64, you need to download the the plug and play basic driver and not the full version from the HP website. Otherwise, it will take more than a minute for the printer to actually start printing.

P1006: first impression
Pros: Compact, quiet, quick, simple buttons, hassle free
Cons: No USB cable included (my IT guy warned me of this)
Other Thoughts: Upon connecting the printer tried to plug and play, and d/l drivers from the internet. this wasn't possible, so i had to use the included installation CD-ROM. No real hassle.
I printed 30 pages from an Adobe file and it took about 100 seconds.

WORKS AWESOME!
Pros: AWESOME LITTLE PRINTER - prints labels, documents etc with ease. A ton quieter than my old Ink Jet.
Cons: toner is a bit $$$$
Other Thoughts: make sure you pull out all the hidden tabs BEFORE you start her up for the first time

Monochrome laser printer
Pros: Printed barcodes are crisp and clean as expected, printing mailing labels is what I bought it for.
Cons: You're paying more than I did.

DOA - Another On The Way :)
Pros: Good, Basic, Entry Level Laser Printer
Cons: UPS broke it or HP quality control missed it.
"It isn´t as good as a $200 to $300 printer" (So? I am paying under $100 with free shipping)
"It doesn´t have a USB cable" (They cost 2 bucks on Newegg and I have 3 or 4 laying around the house anyway)
Other Thoughts: I had the same basic HP printer in Europe for 2 years only under another model number and it performed perfectly. I am in the US now and want the same printer. I trust Newegg and if I have to RMA it 2 or 3 times so be it. The price is half of what I paid in Europe and much less than other places here in the US now.

Toner does not bond well to labels
Pros: Printing to plain paper is OK.
Cons: Printing to labels is poor. Toner does not bond well to labels. When labels are peeled off of their backing, a lot of toner falls off the labels.
Other Thoughts: Yes, toner for HP's entry level laser printers are getting smaller and costlier.

Purchased two!
Pros: Good reliable printer; takes minimum of desktop space; easy setup.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I originally ordered one for my grandson; I thought so much of it that I ordered a second one for my spouse who is quite happy with it. It was just as easy to set it up to print from Ubuntu Linux as it was from WinXP. For the reviewer who complained about a cable not being included, get over it; cables have never been included with printers.

Good SOHO Laser Printer
Pros: Not as loud as several have claimed. Worked great out of box with minimal setup. Nice form factor. Fits my home office setup perfectly and prints great.
Cons: None so far
Other Thoughts: If I had a need for a quick document printer I would certainly recommend this as I print thousands of pages of code regularly.

Cool Design
Pros: 1-Compact 2-Nice colors (most monitors, speaker, keyboards are black and grey nowadays) 3-Prints on envelopes well 4-Doesn't vibrate the table when prints 5-Doesn't take too long to start printing (8-10secs)
Cons: 1-No double sided printing (have to do manually) 2-Noisy heat up 3-Though I like it look this way, a less space consuming design would be with the input tray located at the top at the cost of losing envelope printing. 4-For a cheaper price, buying a Samsung with the current rebate deal, you can increase your print speed from 17 to 24ppm. But Samsung is larger!
Other Thoughts: I bought this and the Samsung in Cons-4. I would buy 2 P1006 if I could go back in time :))

HP Does it AGAIN!
Pros: Worked right out of the box. Toner replacement exceptionally easy. Great quality print. Inexpensive enough to buy multiple units for stand alone use. Software loaded perfectly (video assistance is neat touch). I'm running XP/SP2 and no issues. Newegg shipping "rocks" as usual.
Cons: Cable would be nice so I don't have to go digging up one. A little noisy but managable.
Other Thoughts: This printer is a "no brainer". Hopefully people will buy enough of these units to prompt HP to phase into the color version someday.

Works but Flimbsy
Pros: *Low Price *Easy to install *HP Name
Cons: This units drive busted within 6 months of regular use. Still under warrenty but considering the price I paid, Im just gonna chalk it up to you get what you paid for it and buy a heavier duty printer.
Other Thoughts: If your thinking of getting this for anything but the lightest of work load, consider your self warned. Get a higher end printer. You wont regret it.

Love the Speed
Pros: Great printer for the price. I love how fast pages come out, including the first page. This is a great printer for home use.
Cons: No included USB cable. The printer is inexpensive enough, but a cable couldn't add that much to the price.

NIce and fast
Pros: very fast. Nice and crisp text. Does what it is supposed to.
Cons: Not color. But I didn't order a color printer so there are no cons.
Other Thoughts: I have this along w/2 other HP printers hooked to an XP machine in my home. I use the xp as a print/file server for my house and I can print from 5 other computers in my house 1 other XP and 4 Vista machines. Worked flawlessly out of the box.
