Rating + 2 get the ZS!!!! Your Last Warning!!!!


Pros: Works fine, like the bundle software.

Cons: WARNING! This card has no connectors for case heaphone/mic ports Nor does it have FireWire ports and/or headers. I can't believe this as it causes problems with my new build. These things should be bundled into all the SB Audigy products, whether or not it bears the "Value" label or the ZS label.

Other Thoughts: I am quite angry. If I can somehow sell this Value (didnt buy from Newegg) I will get a ZS, because my mobo doesn't have FireWire support (stupid ASRock). No reason to buy this one that is only a few bucks cheaper. If you're strapped for cash, use the motherboard's onboard sound for scheisse's sake.

Pros: Easy installation. Substantial array of included software utilities.

Cons: None of note.

Other Thoughts: I needed a value soundcard for a budget gaming rig, and this product seems to fit the bill. I haven't encountered any problems with the card so far, and everything sounds great.

Pros: This card is great. There are so many different settings that you can use using the software. The new sound sounds clear and crisp. Being a drummer, I can hear bass beats that I never noticed before.

Cons: None to do with the actual product. However, I recieved the product damaged, but that's neweggs fault. Newegg still rocks though.

Pros: Great price for a nice sound card. Easy to set up and the tweaking software works great. Nowhere near the top of the line but it makes my Logitech X-530's sound great.

Cons: Be careful on the software install as there are lot of unnecessary programs that will install by default.

Other Thoughts: Paid for 3 day delivery.. got it in 2! Newegg rocks!

Pros: Great Sound quality, even made my tv speakers sound great.

Cons: The driver setup is terrible. You cannot just install the drivers for the card, you have to install the whole suite, which is ok, but if you are wanting to save disk space this could be a bother. I do not need to have 4 media players on my pc. I prefer to keep it simple.

Other Thoughts: I got this as a replacement with a old Creative sound card that was about 4 or 5 years old. I noticed a big difference in sound quality and my games sound alot different too. If your looking for a sound card with terrific sound at a low price,buy this. Newegg had this plus other items ordered shipped the next day. Go Newegg!

Rating + 3 Good Card Terrible Drivers


Pros: Card produces excellent quality sound, and sounds quite clearer and better than my onboard audio. Good value for the quality.

Cons: Terrible driver install. I work on computers as a source of income, and have installed hundreds of components, and installed or upgraded countless drivers. I am fairly certain that Creative's driver installation was about the worst I have ever encountered. The installer added a ton of startup applications plus a couple of services (including a very dubious digital rights management service). On top of this, it was extremely slow and unstable (it crashed multiple times). Not only did it add AOL shortcuts in several places, it also tried to change my security settings to give AOL access to my computer as a trusted site. Microsoft Antispyware and Norton Internet Security had a fit with it and I suspect that might be why it kept crashing. My (rather high end) PC started booting up more slowly and acting sluggish until I removed some of the extraneous components and services from startup.

Other Thoughts: The card is great if you can get the drivers and software for it configured properly. The software is quite intrusive, and I would recommend that people be very careful about which components they choose to install.

Pros: i wasnt expecting it that it wld be THAT GOOD ! the reason i was buying it, coz i needed 5 jack (in and out) to use the 5.1 channel along with mic and line in, (my mobo has only 3 jack) so i had to give up line in and mic for 5.1 channel.means i can not use skype or any voice chat software ... :-/

Cons: - cheap :) for the amazing sound that it produce, is that a con :) it should be more expensive lol !!!

Other Thoughts: if u r lookin for a no trouble sound card ! runing under x64, get that one ! I ASSURE U FEW GOOD SOUND CARD THAT CHEAP, provide a x64 drivers. !

Pros: Great sound, great recording ability, easy setup. Paired with
the logitec speakers (newegg ~ $xx) I was thrilled with how good it sounded.

Cons: No way to hook up front panel head phone jack. Bundled apps are not very user friendly. ie. you can't sort by catagories after you create a playlist. The record wixard was much worse than using the player to record.

Pros: WOW!!!1 The sound is so clear and crisp. I cant believe my ears. Definately a great card for 50.00. Would buy again. FAST SHIPPING!

Cons: The silver end piece of audio card was bent went i pulled it out of the package. Also it looks as if tho one of the audio connecters was parcially broken on the inside due to the bent metal piece.

Pros: Easy installation, took me about 3 minutes to install and load all the software and I was ready to go. Much better sound than my onboard audio (duh) Nice and Cheap. Came with CD with programs and drivers so setup was almost as easy as plugging it into my motherboard.

Cons: The little sticker that come with it won't stick to my tower....haha

Pros: This is a high quality card made by the "kings" of soundcard, Creative Labs. It installs in a few seconds, and produces nice deep sound.

Cons: If I were to be looking for anything to gripe about, it would be about the lack of accompanying software... But for the price, that would be obnoxious :-)

Pros: Great value, easy install!.. I upgraded from an SB Live! Value only because the audio out decided to have a grounding issue (buzzing randomly while using the PC, or barely tapping the audio cable)..
Software CD was a little scratched, but still worked just fine. Install was smooth.. Popped out the old card, smacked this one in it's place, booted up win2K, cancelled the HW wizard, ran the CD, restarted, and it works :), even with the onboard still enabled! I still have the onboard audio enabled (my wife watches movies on one monitor, and I play games on the other :) ) and no hiccups.. sounds great, and I'm still using a Cambridge Soundworks 4.1 setup!

Cons: None so far!

Other Thoughts: Newegg rocks! Shipping was quick! Had a little snafu with authorization, but once the CC went through, it was shipped within 2 hours, and I had it on my doorstep less than 24 hours later!

Comments: I purchased the Soundblaster 2 Value to get more out of the sounds of my games...and when the card is working the audio is far superior to that of onboard...the problem is the card will not work for long on high quality Audio with EAX enabled...it just doesn't have the juice to do it...and you'll end up with your system locked or static coming out of your speakers until you hard reboot.

Take my advice and listen to the forums and reviewers that say spend the extra $xx and get a full "Soundblaster 2 Audigy ZS"....I wish I did.

Comments: I got this card to upgrade my horrible on-board audio quality. I don't really use it for any surround capabilities, but it sounds fine with 3 speakers(2.1). The only complaint I have is that the creative media player uses the main system volume level to control the volume. I had a hard time getting a high volume level on headphones. I would suggest using something besides the included software for music playback.

Comments: I was skeptical about how much of a difference there could possibly be between onboard audio and a PCI card. I was using my mobo's AC '97 audio and was becoming frustrated with its poor performance, so I decided to finally bite the bullet and get an Audigy. Worth every penny. Sounds incredible on my good ol' Logitech Z-560's, if you get one of these cards, get a speaker system to match, because the clarity and definition deserves a proper outlet!

Comments: Just like to retract the harsh words I had for the music output on this. I don't know if it was set by default, or I just enabled it upon installation, but after I disabled the CMSS option, the tin can effect is gone. Very pleased now. This shouldn't even be an option that you can enable, cause it sounds horrible Creative.

Comments: i just sold my sound blaster live 24-bit, which i shouldn't of bought in the first place, not because the sound wasn't good, it's because there wasn't any "line out" jack, which i definitely need to hook my PS2 on my vga adapter. anyways, my friends have checked out this audigy value and they say that it's just as good as their audigy z2. my friends can't believe they just spent $xxx on a sound card which is the same quality as this value card! the sound is crisp and counter-strike:source is a whole new experience where i can hear tiny sounds coming from the b-site when i'm in the tunnel in de_dust! i saved money and i'm extremely pleased with this wonder card. now i can hook up my PS2. save your money and just get this unless you're one of those peeps that have a hole in your pocket. ^_-

Comments: First thing, NewEgg was their usual 2-day cross country shipping best! Disappointed with this card however.

CD install driver kept crashing after load screen. After trying everything, I finially clicked the submit crash to Microsoft (which I NEVER do). The diagnosis was it was Apple Quicktime's fault. After uninstalling Quicktime the CD let me install without crashing.

The audio chip on my Abit N-F7S mobo (Soundstorm certified) died and rather than pay 25.00 plus shipping to RMA the board (And be witout it for up to a month), I decided to get this card. While INITITAL impressions are it sounds SLIGHTLY better in gaming, it's pretty terrible with music compared to my Soundstorm. It has the oomph and clarity of an incredibly cheap audio device. Recently purchased Sennheiser HD 280 headphones and it's a complete waste of money with this soundcard. The music lover in me weeps. Definetly would have purchased the ZS if doing again. Although I'm only assuming that has higher quality audio out:(

Rating + 3 Alright, but not the best for EAX in Games


Comments: I purchased it as an upgrade to the onboard sound on my mobo. While the sound quality is much improved, there is stability issues with games that use EAX. As reviews have suggested (post my purchase) you should really buy the full Audigy 2 ZS and not the the Audigy 2 Value if you're going for gaming...only a $20 difference but probably quite worth it.

Comments: I previously was using the onboard sound on my motherboard, and it was laggy and didn't sound all that wonderful. As soon as I tested this baby out, I was in awe of how much I was missing before. The quality of music and the crispness of the sound is excellent.

I've been using EAX 4.0 HD on all of my games, now. I'm telling you...you just don't know what you're missing if you haven't heard this. Doom 3 was pretty spooky before...but the sounds are crystal clear and have much better directional spread, so that you can hear exactly where a noise is coming from. There were several times after using EAX that I was very edgy and tense playing Doom 3...even the sound of a door closing will make you turn around and wonder if something is about to rip you apart...let alone if something really IS about to...

Comments: at this price, you should buy it, there is no background static like my onboard had, this card is great, now if I can just figure out what the pin header on the top is for.
This would have gotten 5 stars, but the driver cd that came with it is damaged, and their site is of no help, but newegg is good about that, so no problems there.

Comments: Just upgraded from a Creative SB Live! 5.1 sound card. For the price, I couldn't pass up moving to a 24-bit card. DVD-Audio from both movies and music discs sounds great. Surround positioning is alot better than my old card. However, you won't notice a difference with music unless it's 24 bit.

Comments: Newegg got this card to me in one day. Just one day. Absolutely incredible stuff.

This card is exactly what you would expect a sound card to be. Nothing special I guess... just a great value and a great card. I would recommend this card against any of the audigy series above it. You really cant tell a difference in perfromance and quality between those and this card. This one is just much cheaper.

Comments: I bought this card elsewhere about 4 months ago, accually paid a little bit less for it (THAT doesn't happen often), and I must say I was impressed. I have been playing music since I was 6, and I can tell you what is and isn't good sound. This is good sound ;) I really liked the bundled software, especially the format converter (which I have put on all of my computers), and the music player was very clear, and when paired with my Bose speakers, it sounds almost real.

Quick note, to get the most out of your music, convert it to .wav. Yea, its 10x bigger, but it sounds sooooo much clearer. Also, having alot of speakers doesn't translate to better sound, so if you want to be guinuenly impressed, pay pay the extra buck to get a solid set of 2.1 or 4.1 speakers, because the song is only as good as the speaker that plays it. Course, the card helps alot ;)

Comments: This card was great. I went from some junky intergrated audio chip to this. I noticed a 150% increase in all the sound, plus, a lot of my games started to have cool effects that my intergrated chip didn't have (echos, environmental sounds, etc.) It's not the best sound card on the market, but definately wourth $xx.00 You get what you pay for!

Comments: I also upgraded from onboard sound to this card and am very pleased. I disabled onboard sound, then ran the install disk instead of letting the new hardware wizard install the card. I only have a two speaker/subwoofer setup and still can tell a huge differnce. Very nice!

Comments: Great sound card. I went from integrated mobo sound to this Audigy 2 Value, and the sound difference was truly noticable. The music was much more crisp and defined. A few days after I slapped on a surround sound set and the card works just fine w/ the speakers. I would suggest this upgrade to anyone who wants something good but cheap.

Comments: I origionally ordered this in april to accopany my 5.1's, it is august, and I don't have a working soundcard. All 3 cards were not being recognized by windows. I dont know if I am doing something wrong, but I am following the manuall(show how great those are) I tried creative tech support and that got me nowhere. I want to return it to newegg, but the 30 days has expired(even though I just recieved the 3rd defective RMA) I will probalbly have to sell this and will acually lose money due to all the shipping costs.

Last soundcard i buy from creative, I knew I shouldn't have bought from them.

Comments: Buy the retail version of this instead of the OEM! I received this card with no software or drivers of any kind! Fortunately, the great people at NewEgg shipped me a burned copy of the drivers.

Once installed, sounds crisper and cleaner than onboard audio. Lots of useful utilities, and handles 5.1 speakers well.

Not sure what the small white 8 pin interface on the top of the card is for.

WinAmp gives me popping issues sometimes when digitally playing back CDs. Had to fool around with settings alot.

Good budget card.

Comments: save up for an Audigy 2ZS. its only a little more anyways. the mps or CDs are not supposed to sound any different than on board either. sound cards are made spacifically for 5.1 clarity and positioning as well as sound editing. if you want to go digital with sound, go with the 2ZS. this card does exactly what I was made to do. Creative is and always has been the best for sound.

Comments: Ok, well there is a lot to say about this card indeed. First off, I have to say that I was really expecting some dramatic increase in the clarity and smoothness of all sounds, from reviews on newegg and other sites. Before I was using an integrated audio, the ALC850, and it really sounded awesome to me, and I couln't imagine how anything could sound better.

Well after trying it out... I have to say I am dissappointed in that it does not sound the slightest bit better than my integrated audio. Sure, maybe some sounds here and there sound a little more crisp and sharp, but rarely. The only real improvements I see are that the surround positioning seems to be better (before it was hard to tell the direction something was coming from, with this it is easy to tell where something is coming from) and that it offers a performance increase in games that are bound by cpu speed.

For example, in HL2DM, I was getting 80-120 fps, and now I get 150-250 on average, and it rarely goes below 100. I made sure it was on all the same settings before and after. I also tested on BF2, and found that it helped a little, but not as much because that game is being restricted by my graphics card.

Also the installation was very rough, to say the least. I installed the hardware, and then the software, and went to test it on a game only to find that there was no bass whatsoever coming out of my subwoofers. I plyed around with all the settings, and couldn't get it to work right so I called tech support (only free for 60 days to note). After waiting the usual 15-20 minutes I talked to a guy who had me try several things, which I had already tried myself, and put me on hold about 5 times in the process. We found that setting a series of options provided a workaround, but it was not supposed to run like that. So he gave me a link to a support article at the creative website and said "try that and if it doesn't work, call me back. bye" So I followed all the instructions, which in the process had me un-install the software, and reinstall it. That still did nothing for the problem, so I called tech support back and the guy I got tried having me do the things I had just done with the last guy! Then I told him that there was a way to make it work but that the last guy said it should't have to run that way and it was funkey. So the current tech support guy said to just do that and run it that way. He said "well, whatever works is what works" So then I went to set that option back only to find out that the software was not working anymore!!! I ended up formating my hard drive and doing a fresh install of windows in order to make it work, and then I still had to set that funkey option to get any bass.

Bottom line: Get it if you know a lot about comptuers or are having someone who does install it for you, and don't expect your mp3's to sound better, and finally, it's only worth getting if you have surround speakers and want good sound positioning. Otherwise just stick with the integrated.

Has an extra setting in control panel for "Bit Perfect playback", something that's not present on other Audigy 2 cards (except the most expensive Audigy 4).

Comments: something worth buying that has performance at a low low price.

though i haven't heard it yet, i'm sure it's better than the 3yr old pci card i have now.

also, it's 24-BIT with 192KHz sampling rate. I bet Doom3 and Far Cry will sound really good with this card.

only con for this card are the 2 bolts on the end with the pci bracket. the one near the L-Shape (where a screw usually goes in) interferes with my thermaltake dreamtower screwless pci card slot clips. i have to really PRY it to get it out, but can be easily fixed by a screw, just take the clip off.

BUY IT, it's cheap and you get the performance you need!!

Comments: Was having some problems with it innitially, but once I managed to completely irradicate all traces of my previous sound card, it has been working fantastically.

The sound is crisp and clean, the various mixer and EAX options give you a lot of flexibility, and the mediasource player is far superior to both winamp and wmplayer.

I recommend getting Driver Cleaner (free download) to help the installation process. Once you get it working, you will not be disappointed.

Comments: Amazing! I put one of these in my new computer when it came, and before then i had been listening to music on my laptop. For the past few months now, ive been listening to music on my new computer, and just the other day i tried it again on the laptop. The difference is phenomonal. With the card, youl hear things in the music you never noticed before, voices are clearer, and sounds mix better together. You really just have to hear it to understand. Once you get used to it, youl never be able to go back. Absolutely must have for anyone serious about music or games.

Comments: Yummy! What a nice card <font>-</font>- same as the high-end stuff except you don't get the fancy (worthless) box, etc. All else is same. Oh <font>-</font>- no firewire built-in, either. So what? Get this card <font>-</font>- it's just as fine and good as the more expensive Creative Audigy2. Also, I really like this mixing software. I can really get my back and rear speakers going for full 7-dimensional sound <font>-</font>- Yummy!

Comments: Wow! This is the first surround sound card I've ever had, and all I can say is Wow! I've never heard the sound so clear. I race in a an online racing league and when I went on the chat server the first time, I didn't even recognize some of the voices because my old card was so bad! If your on a budget, or trapped in an apartment, I sugguest pairing with the Zalman 5.1 headphones.

Comments: I ordered this card, and unfortunately i received one that had been damaged during shipping. I sent it back and Newegg replaced it free of charge within days! I was originally disappointed but after they sent me a working card..WOW...newegg is awesome.

The card itself provides crisp clear sound at any volume with little distortion. In games I notice much better sound quality and higher fps than onboard sound. The best deal on any sound card I have seen.

Comments: Wow! That's all I can say after getting this sound card. Wow! I have had onboard sound now with my Asus K8V SE Deluxe, and I was so content with it for so long. Like so many others, I told myself that onboard sound was sufficient, but now I know otherwise. I'm no audiophile or sound junky, but I am very impressed with this soundcard. I will never get onboard sound again after hearing how crisp this thing is. Thought about going with the Audigy 2 ZS, but I didn't need DTS or the firewire. Played Call of Duty and Far Cry, seem like new games! Paired with Z-680s from Logitech, and that's a great combo! Newegg came through again!

Ring assignments were not immediately found, and internal header pin assignments were nowhere to be found. After much searching found pin assignments at DriverHeaven.net (The white 10 pin header has mic in, and headphone out for front panel jack connections)

Comments: Great sound card for the money. Bought it with the Kinyo 5.1 surround headphones and am very impressed. Call of Duty and Doom3 are new games now because I can tell where the enemy is from sound alone. Look on Creative Labs' website for the differences, this "value" card is packed with features. Comments: This card is AWESOME. It's basically the Audigy 2 ZS, just without the firewire port. Same specs and all. GREAT PURCHASE, got here in 2 days, NEWEGG ROCKS!

Comments: Ordered on Dec 24 and received Dec 28, came well packaged no problems. Installed and booted up properly on first try, CD has drivers and all apps. HUGE increase in sound quality over onboard audio on my motherboard (MSI MS-6734), I use plantronics audio .70 headset to mainly play games and listen to music. Everything sounds 10 times better, The bass is low and clear, the treble is high and crisp, absolutely NO distortion/hiss/static in anything. EAX dramatically improves music playback (use advanced EQ effects) and really make games sound '3D'. All this quality at newegg's great price, Highly recommended.
