don't buy this
Pros: easy to record video
Cons: The software that comes with it sucks. I don't mean its a little quirky, I mean it totally sucks. The software is made by cyberlink and is called power producer and power cinema. If you can actually get it to work, its incredibly slow. It is the slowest dvd burning software I have ever come across. I've used Ulead, Roxio, Nero, etc and all of them are at a minimum twice as fast as the cyberlink software that comes with the camcorder. I have a dell laptop with windows vista home with 4G of memory and Intel duo core 2.53Ghz processors, and its painfully slow. I can't use power cinema on it because that software blows up with an error message when I try to burn my videos onto a dvd. Instead, cyberlink's tech support says to use their power producer software. The software is horrible. The chapter\menus I made with their software don't respond to the remote control's "menu" button. Every other dvd I've ever used does, but not the ones you create with the cyberlink's software.
Other Thoughts: Do not buy this product until JVC replaces the software provider (cyberlink) with someone good. The JVC unit produces video files with the .MOD extension.

Small, Easy to Use, High Quality
Pros: This camcorder came out of the box and setup very easy. It was easy to understand and smooth to use. The screen was big enough to see what I was doing. The options to connect to PC or direct media where somewhat easy to understand. I would rate this a good overall camcorder for the non high def crowd. The 60 gig drive is nice and well.. tough to fill it up.
Cons: Stills are pretty poor. There is no flash. The slider control on the screen to the left is kinda odd, although not impossible to understand. Lense cover is manual and I am sure one of our family members will leave it open and put it in the camera bag. Should have been automatic.
Other Thoughts: I think this is a great camcorder for the all around best options. It is reasonlably priced, has a ton of features, great zoom and takes good video in general. If you are not willing to fork out the big cash for HD this is a perfect digital unit..

Great Little Camcorder
Pros: Since there are no reviews of this, I have decided to kick things off. I boaught this a little over a week ago and it has been great ever since. It is very light weight and compact for traveling. For a standard definition camcorder, I feel this is as good as it gets. On a standard tv it has great picture quality. I have also tested it on my laptops 1080p 19" LCD and looks like dvd quality. There is some resolution loss putting it on a high def screen but not enough to make me hate it.
In my opinion, this camcorder is a miracle to the JVC standard definition line. Most others have complex controls but this one has great controls, easy to learn, and has a multitude of manual controls as well, all contolled by the laser scroll and five touch buttons near the screen.
Some don't like not having a view finder but I say that is a thing of the past and is not needed when you have a gorgeous lcd screen to look at.
Cons: The picture quality when taking still pictures kinda stinks. I wish the megapixels was around 4.5 to 7 and that would have made that function worth while. A flash wouldn't have hurt either.
The battery life is a negative because it only last about 1hr. 30mins. so this means that I have to buy an upgrade to last longer.
Other Thoughts: I have owned many other camcorders in the past and this one is a great buy. No tapes, no dvds, and no other media that you have to carry around with you and take up gobs of space. If you are looking for a camcorder to capture the memories or something to just play around with, this is a camera for you. This beats everything out there for the standard use. If you are looking for somehting in high def to dazel your friends or take amiture movies then you would have to look at JVC's HD line.
I was thinkig of going with panasonic or sony but both of those seemed to be high expensive and less options.
JVC is the way to go for great all around goodness.
