Sam Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: more than 1 year	12/7/2009 5:13:16 PM Still Awesone Pros: If there is one game i will never stop playing it is this. I stoped playing COD4 and CODWAW (b/c of MW2) but this game is still in my dvd tray because i can't stop playing it. Yes the graphics are outdated but for its time they were amazing and still average today. The 1.5 patch gives you armoured fury and Euro Force ($20 value there). Ranking up isn't as fast as it is in COD but its more rewardng and you can choose unlocks in the order you want to and for the classes you play as most. I prefer playing on infantry only servers but thats personal preference and playing with vehicles is also really fun. The squad system is simple yet amazing. It is very easy to use. press T and a menu appers all you do is highlight the right option. pressing Q gives you a general menu such as call for a medic or ammo Cons: Everyone online dolphin dives and shoots while prone! If you go against someone who is prone and your standing they will win every time so you might wanna bind prone to CTR or a bigger key. Choice of airmaps/vehicle city maps/infantry makes it the best FPS. I love to switch between airmaps and infantry only servers. Cons: So many bugs! 1.5 fixed a few but give me a break, the game is 4 years old. You can gain ranks and unlock weapons as you play, AI seems smart enough, LOTS of mods, fun maps. There are countless online servers, LAN games are easy to set up. You can change a lot of parameters on your own server to make it unique using the deathmatch options. I have played this game a LOT and i have to say that the best map is strike at karkand and that you have to be very alert! Cons: Aimbotters/Hackers - Every once in a while you will run into them. Chances are an admin will kick them, but if theres no admins online you might as well leave the server. Grenade/Claymore spam - These are annoying but easy to avoid if you know how. Stay spread out and hide behind anything solid and heal continually. If a friend dies, make sure there isnt a grenade by his dead body if you decide to revive him. If somebody in your squad is a medic and he is nearby, commit suicide on claymores so he can revive you. Better you than the entire squad. Lag - Lag is horrible on this game if you play on anything over 100 ping. Stay close to home on servers. After your ping goes over 50 you will see that a lot of your perfect headshots are simply ignored by the server, even though you see the hit and they flinch. The hitbox is very shy, you have to make sure your target it still, and quick shoot before they move. Other Thoughts: This game is great, and for $9 its a steal. Setting up a dedicated server with admin priveledges is easy enough. This game is not demanding at all on low detail. I have windows vista, 2gigs of ram and a GeForce 6150 SE and it plays perfect on low-ish detail. I dont even like high detail anyway though, it gets very dark, shadowy, and foggy. Make sure your lighting is on low, or you wont be able to see people hiding in alleys. EA doesnt seem to care about bugs or exploiters or hacker, they prefer to pick on the people that dont play by the rules (ones that play on pistol/knife servers or stat pad) Stat padding is cheap but sometimes it happens without you noticing. If you see a hacker, leave the server. If you see a dead friend, revive him fast. The best class for leveling up is a medic. The best gun is the G36E (its a medic gun). N/A Tech Level: high Ownership: more than 1 year	11/4/2009 4:46:30 PM Best Multiplayer FPS I Ever Played. Pros: This has to be the definitive Multiplayer FPS of the past 5 years. Nothing that has come before or since can compare to the sheer greatness of this game. The maps are huge, deep, and varied. One minute you can be assaulting a desert city with open fields of fire. The next you are defending a dam in the middle of a mountain valley from Air, Land, & Sea attacks. The vehicles are extremely well designed and handle as you would expect. And are extremely well balanced against each other. Weapons are done equally well, each weapon feels different and suits the kit it is assigned to. The 64 player battle can and do get intense. When the action gets going(which it does frequently) the chaos increases the intensity and fun factor of this game tremendously. Sometimes you actually feel like you are in a real "Battlefield." But the Best of all about this game is the replayability. No matter what you do or how you do it the game never feels old. I've been playing since release and loved it! Cons: Bugs. I swear if it wasn't for the countless bugs the game would be on the top ten of many a gamer's list. Also I didn't like the game[demo] at first. I thought it was too shallow compared to it's predecessor but after a few days of playing the demo nonstop I changed my mind and pre-ordered it. Other Thoughts: I originally payed for the booster packs back when they were released And had a great time but noone to play with. Now they're free with the 1.5 patch. Believe me with the hours you'll get out of this game 10 bucks is more then worth it. P.S. I was also anticipating the sequel the 2007 multiplayer FPS game of the year but after finding out the PC MP limit is capped at 9vs9. I'll be sticking with this for a little while longer. Honestly, this is the very best on-line game in the history of on-line gaming. There's no subscription to pay, just buy this game for 10 dollars and install the two patches (1.41 and 1.5). You will not believe what you have been missing. Lots of different vehicles to use (tanks, armored personell carriers, buggies, mobile anti-aircraft, boats, jets & helicopters). Most of the vehicles have room for several players. You gotta try being a gunner in a helicopter! Lots of maps - I think there's about 20 different maps in the game. Each one has a different look and feel, with unique colors and sounds. Each map has a different selection of vehicles. Lots of kits to use depending on the situation. The squads and commanders make the gameplay much better. Join a squad, cooperate with your squad leader and enjoy the team-based gameplay! The ranking and weapon unlock system will keep you entertained for a long time. Cons: If you don't have a high-speed internet connection, then you probably won't enjoy the on-line play. There are two patches to download and install before you will see all of the available on-line servers. You'll need to do the 1.41 patch first, then the 1.5 patch. Unfortunately, there are a lot of immature players out there. Sometimes these people are clan members or server administrators. There are many good BF2 servers available, so you don't have to put up with that junk. Other Thoughts: The 1.5 patch allows everyone to play the Euro Forces and Armored Fury add-on expansion packs for free. This adds a whole bunch of new maps, and I think there are some additional brand new maps too. Also, you won't need the CD to play BF2 once you install the 1.5 patch. You will probably want to use a headset so that you can talk to your squad members. Also, it's much more fun when you can crank up the sound. You can actually hear the footsteps of your enemy as he attempts to sneak up on you (don't let them get close enough to knife you). Snipers can hide, but their rifle is really loud. If you hear a sniper rifle report near you, look at your map and see if any of your team mates are near. If you don't see anyone, then it's an enemy sniper. Plus you also get ranking, weapon unlocks etc. I definitely enjoy this game over other FPS games as the squads, commander, and other screens/abilities give so much more to the game than just running around and shooting everything...that goes for the vehicles too! If you're looking for a total "BATTLEFIELD" experience, then get this game! the maps are huge..graphics are intense, and the game-play is clean! Cons: Slow load times depending on your machine...even the faster ones have to cache a lot of video data into memory, but this con is dependent on the amount of patience. The MAJOR con of ANY EA game.. but since we're covering BF2...DO NOT LINK THIS GAME TO AN EXISTING ACCOUNT! I spent 8 hours over the course of two days trying to figure out why my copy after successful registration would NOT allow me to play!? I spent a few tickets to EA.com support, as well as read forums and such to the point of major frustration. What I had to do to fix this issue...is to create a new email that was nowhere registered at EA.com...then use that to create a NEW account WITHIN THE GAME. that worked for me. The registration is a royal pain in the patootie and then some. Other Thoughts: A few things to consider: 1. Registration headaches 2. EA's "minimum players for ranking servers" 16 slot=6, 32 slot = 12, and 64 slot= 16 I think...this means that unless a minimum of those numbers of players are present, the ranking doesn't work. and you're playing for nothing. This is different than other ranking games such as the COD series, that allow 2+ players to rank, and even save their rankings locally on their machine etc. 3. System intensive loading, and heavy resource usage. This game's minimum requirements are a bit shy of what they should be.. meaning a more powerful pc than what's called for would be a good fore-thought:) 6. The control schemes, and Game play in general are very complex to other shooters. you will be taking some time if you're new to this game or the Battlefield series to get over that Learning Curve hurdle. Its a first person shooter that really immerses you into the battle. Its not cheese at all, you really feel like your there. Its 64 people per battle 32 per side capture the flag. Its not structured, you can go everywhere on the map and do anything. You can develop your tactics as you go. You can use all of the vehicles, Jets, Tanks, Jeeps, Chopers etc. Its awesome. I've been playing it since its release and have yet to tire from it. Additionally, you do not start out at a great disadvantage when you start playing for the first time. Granted old hats have a greater variety of weapons to choose from but that does not mean you'll be pwned for the first 6 months. You'll be pwning people the first day you play. Cons: Its owned by EA Its evil PS2 counterpart is not the same game at all. I got it shortly after it came out and haven't stopped playing it since. Now with the AIX mod released a few years back it adds even more enjoyment to the game. This is one game that I'll play every night. If you are in search of a good online FPS this is a MUST for any PC gamer. Cons: Since it's an older game the graphics are slightly out dated, but are still very decent. It only supports up to 1600 x 1200 resolution in the game options but can be played on higher resolutions. I'm currently using a 1920 x 1200 resolution with no problems. Other Thoughts: Get the AIX (Allied Intent Extended) Mod for it as well, which adds more vehicles, bigger maps, and more tactics. Did you find this review helpful? Battlefield 2 came out when? 2002? something like that. Still going strong, even with the juggernaut(pun intended) games like COD4 and others, still lots of ppl come and play the regular(unmodified version) and thousands of Mods, like AIX(AI mod) PR(reality mod) Sandbox(gmod type game) and others. Very fun. Play it more than COD. Cons: uh, annoying Patches, EA, no game pad support. all not big enuf for taking a egg of. the Complete collection is better, comes with all the expansion packs(Armored fury the best) EA sells the boster packs for 10 bucks a pop, but all of them put together AND with the latest patch, its a no brainer. This game is absolutly amazing,no match is ever the same,you have 7 diferent player classes you can choose from,diferent guns,vehicles and equipment you can use.Huge maps with open ended gameplay.Join a squad or create your own to see some nice teamplay action.Be the commander of your team if you want and play the game from a RTS perspective. Online global rank system. This game has everything,and for 10 bucks its a steal,heck I bought mine when it cost 50 bucks and Id pay twice as much for it considering how much fun it is. Cons: Some annoying audio bugs and a few other glitches but despite that I still give it 5 eggs Other Thoughts: Bleh too all other online fps,get this,you will be amazed.And best of all it will run on older hardware considering todays standards. Having played this game since its release date in 2005 - what more can I say? I still spend plenty of time each week playing. It never gets boring. Ranks, Tanks, vehicles, planes, Helicopters. Command, squads, etc, etc. But if that gets to be old, join an Infantry only server. Cons: Now new patch sine 1.41. Rumored since, but never happened. Other Thoughts: To all the peeps who complain, especially the guy referring the his PC being over qualified for the game? That indeed may be, but I ask my friend; have you heard of operator error? You need to update punkbuster, you need to know how to create and manage accounts. Overall, if you like first-person war based games, you will NOT be disappointed with your 10 purchase. All are needed for installation. Finally install it, create an account, log on, and it freezes on me. So I manually shut it down and open it back up. Then I can't connect to my account because it's already online. So I try creating a new account with one of my other emails. It says that email is already in use, which I know for a fact it is not. So then I try 6 or 7 times to connect to my account and it finally works. Well guess what, 2 servers! And one of them is ranked! So I join the unranked one, takes me 4 tries to spawn, then I get kicked by punkbuster. This was the biggest waste of money I have spent in my life, and will probably be the biggest waste of money ever. Other Thoughts: I have a custom built gaming PC, my computer is way overqualified to run this game. Not over taxing even for older machines, I used to run it just fine on a 6800 with a P4 3Ghz machine. People are still developing mods for this game, still one of the most popular of the series. When I'm on a squad and team that's talking and working together as a team should, there's nothing better. In my opinion, graphics are still decent, too. I also play some of the more recent first person shooters, like Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2, and Call of Duty 4, and while these games are certainly fun and are a step up with graphics, they still don't quite compare to the amazing gameplay that Battlefield 2 can offer. Cons: The server interface can be a bit clunky...nowhere near as smooth as Steam. Still functional, though. And PunkBuster can occasionally be glitchy, kicking me from a server when I'm not doing anything wrong (packet errors, blah blah blah). And like any game, if there are immature players or a bunch of Rambos playing on a server, rather than playing as a team, it's not quite as fun. But the awesome gameplay that is possible far outweighs these cons. Other Thoughts: You MUST buy this game! Find a good 64-player server with some mature players and have a good time! I'd also suggest picking up the Special Forces expansion pack to get access to more weapons. It's worth it! Just about any halfway-decent computer can handle this game these days. I started playing BF2 a few years ago on an Athlon 3800+ X2 939 chip with an ATI X1800XT card, and could play at a mixture of medium and high settings at a nice resolution. Most computers these days are more capable than my old system, so hardware requirements shouldn't be an issue for most people. I'm now running an AMD Phenom 9950 with an ATI 4870 1GB card, and can run at 1920x1080 with maxed out settings, no problem. It's great. Time to go play some BF2. I love my X-fi Titanium and my gx2 with my evga 780i processed by a 3.16 e8500 with munskin 800 speed memory, it all seems to be very stable. I really enjoy this game and it works the best on xp. Although 32 bit vista works too on my other rig. the 64 bit version crashed alot and it would not work for me nmvlk@#$%& or some vista & nividia driver problem not resolved for sli rigs. Decent teamwork in my opinion although for most games i guess the teamwork could probably be considered outstanding. VOIP enables squad voice communication which is nice as long as you don't have an 8 year old in the squad XD. Cool vehicles and guns. Good video quality if your computer can handle 1200-1000 resolution with full graphics and 8X antialiasing this game really does look impressive. Cons: Takes ages...literally...to get new levels and guns. overpowered planes, artillery, tanks and helicopters take spawnkilling to a whole new level. Very shoddy server interface. Bugs, bugs,bugs. and how does EA/DICE fix this....why simply download 1GB of patches...yes thats right there is 1GB of patches you are required download and install in order to play the game after installation. Unfortunately like most popular multiplayer games it is also more or less filled with hackers and cheaters and the Punkbuster software does not do anything to stop this. Punkbuster really is a joke and spends more time kicking people for it's own errors that it does catching the real cheaters. Also, on a side not i find quite humorous, the G15 keyboard users out there will be delighted to hear that your keyboard macro software violates EA's Terms of Service agreement. whether or not you really care about that is i guess your business :D. Other Thoughts: Despite my long list of cons, IMO they are outweighed by the pros. I believe its a good game people will continue to play far into the future. Even if the basic "vanilla" game leaves much to be desired, there are countless mods to this game that can make it truly awesome. Pros: If you enjoy first person shooteres and have high speed internet service, you simply must buy and play this game on-line. Really excellent gameplay, with lots of different maps, weapons and vehicles to choose from. You can pick your style of play depending on the situation. For example, if you are getting hit by the opponents artillery too often, sneak into their base with a special forces kit and blow it up. The medic is great for beginners because you can heal yourself. Join a squad and use your headset to talk to your squad members. Be a squad leader so others can spawn at your location. Be a commander and coordinate the movement of your squads, drop supplies and scan the map for enemies. Armor menacing your base? Jump in a jet and drop a load on them. Lots of servers - even though the game is several years old. In my mind, creating a game using REAL weapons and vehicles is much more of an accomplishment than making up a bunch of imaginary weapons and vehicle Cons: 1. Punkbuster... That's all I need, something else set to run when my machine boots up... I suppose it does stop most of the hacking... 2. The multiplayer interface is a little buggy at times. Mostly OK, but sometimes locks up. Also, the favorites screen seems to be a little messed up (scroll bar does nothing?) 3. Some servers have whacked out admins who will kick you for killing them too many times. Seriously people, grow up. You clan people should be monitoring who gets admin permissions, not just giving these rights to just any nut job who donates to your paypal account. Most servers are OK, but only the good servers are never empty. Other Thoughts: Runs good on older hardware. If you have at least an Athlon64 3200, 1 gig of ram, and a 256MB video card, you should be able to pretty much max out all of the video settings and still enjoy great frame rates. The BF2 Special Forces game is great also, but has less maps. This adds zip line and grapple hook to certain kits. The BF2 add-on pack (euro forces) can be bothersome to get enabled. After purchasing the retail boxed copy of euro forces, I was unable to use it. The instructions for installing and "enabling" this package is really poor, and after jumping through all the required hoops (registering, creating an EA account, entering the code, etc.), I was still unable to use the new maps. The error message basically told me that I was using stolen or modified copy of the expansion pack. Other people I know were told that their numbers were aleady in use (someone else registered it?). Nick Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: more than 1 year	12/16/2008 3:44:06 PM about the only game i play regularly Pros: Great graphics even though they're dated they're still very effective with the added shine/shadows and ragdoll physics that BF1942 was missing. Squads, voice chat, commander for some sick organizing of a team. Mods for it such as Project Reality and Forgotten Hope and many others are free and expand the gameplay to infinity and make the stock game look like a complete joke given so many more weapons and maps with more realism and usually more sensible players. Rampant teamkillers can be auto-kicked if you 'punish' them enough times. Though this can work both ways (if they force you to tk them). Very seamless physics between close-quarters and long distance shots. Helicopters are a total joy. Cons: Terrible server interface. Buggy, locks up and is very slow, seems single-threaded. If it ever locks up you are stuck with that screen, you have to do a hard reboot if so. It will sometimes do this also when on a server between maps. Joystick hatswitch controls are useless and you need a 3rd party program like joy2key running in 2 instances to trick BF2 into thinking you're pressing ctrl and moving mouse at the same time (which is what you normally have to do to look around in the cockpit)..clunky either way since you lose flight control while lookign around. Rewards system is pretty silly.. unlocks stop at 1st leiutenant I believe, making the rest of the ranks pretty useless and targets of selfish loser stat padders who ruin the game for their own benefit, making them sort of extra meaningless to have. You have to 'sign in' regardless if you want offline/online play which is idiotic. Other Thoughts: I play this game almost every day and I haven't played many other games since regularly..I've bought a few other games but rarely play them which is a shame. The 10 bucks spent for this sucker is the same cost as the addons you can get from EA but I suggest the mods which are worth quite a bit on their own but they're free. Project Reality is a good one (although .8 version is a lot more frustrating than the previous version) in that it forces real teamplay and coordination, people actually use the voice chat all the time with it (in fact they have to) and a real sense of comradery is established instead of a server full of lone-wolfs stealing stuff and otherwise complete idiots. Bottom line is that even if stock BF2 isn't your cup of tea, use it as a vehicle to play a bunch of others of the same type with different themes. Did you find this review helpful? The aiming is fairly realistic, and requires both skill and teamwork to win (which could also be a con depending on your team). In short this is my favorite FPS... or favorite game ever. Cons: All I can think of is Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi cards have more problems with this game than most, but I replaced mine and would suggest anyone with an issue do the same, so it's not a problem for me. Other Thoughts: I'd recommend the Complete Collection though because it has all the expansion packs (extra maps, guns and vehicles!) and comes on a DVD so installation isn't as much of a pain. Has problems with my graphics card and sound card. Probably hates me because I don't have an Nvidia card. Other Thoughts: I can't figure out why it won't load on my computer. It is a windows vista machine, but I went into the properties and told it to run the program with xp service pack 2, so I know it's not vista. The problem appears to be my graphics card and sound card. It doesn't even pick up a sound card, says it's unsure if it's compatible. Same goes for the graphics card. I've been addicted to 3 or 4 games in my life. Tie Fighter was one, Total Annihilation was another and Battlefield 2 has had me hooked for a good 2 years. It was the multi-player mode that did it. Playing with up to 64 people around the world in, what amounts to "Capture the Flag" is still fun no matter how bad I'm playing. I've played the other games. I try to experiment with as many of the new titles as I can but none is as good as BF2 and that includes BF 2142. Can somebody please top this game so I can quit comparing every game to BF2! Cons: After a bazillion patches (remember when every patch release was a major event?) i still get the occasional series of unexplained crashes, etc. But what we've got now is a pretty solid game for what it's worth. Other Thoughts: Maxing your system memory really speeds the game load for this game. I can usually go make a sandwich while I'm loading a map for the first time. I have a second machine that I started playing on and it has 4GB of memory (similar specs otherwise) and it loads in less than half the time of my 2GB machine. 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful. If you've had friends that said they've played the game and that it had problems and so forth, take a second look at this game. The latest patch (1.41) fixes almost all these problems and greatly improves the game, and also adds some new maps. And hey, for such a low price with free shipping for a game this good?! Also remember to get the Special Forces expansion pack too, as you won't be able to unlock the Special Forces weapons that regular Battlefield 2 uses; just the regular ones. Cons: Very long map load times, due to the client verification check, severe hard disk usage causing lag at the beginning of a map (I have heard having 2 GB of RAM or more fixes this problem). Sometimes people exploit certain components of the game (bunny-hopping, dolphin diving, etc.) and attack and spawn camp uncappable flags. Other Thoughts: Get this game, it's very good.
