Ownership: 1 month to 1 year

Rating + 4 Not bad for what I paid!!

Pros: DD-WRT capable! Wireless N seems pretty good. I got it for cheap as a refurb!!

Cons: The administrative interface will lock up often when I make changes. I have DD-WRT on there, which is great, but many times the admin CP will lock up on me when I try to "Apply Changes" - this ALWAYS requires a reboot to fix, but at least the router still works, so it won't kick anyone off until you actually reboot.

Other Thoughts: I almost bricked this router. I flashed from the netgear interface to a DD-WRT std (standard) firmware, which is WRONG. MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THE SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS!! If you don't first flash to the mini the way DD-WRT forums explains, you WILL be sorry.

I was able to fix the situation by TFTPing the mini DD-WRT then upgraded to a STD. :)

Rating + 5 works great for me

Pros: Bought it refurbished here from newegg, works great for the casual browsing experience. Also, streaming video via SlingPlayer, youtube etc work great.

I have my laptop, my iphone & my gf's laptop & iphone always connected through this router. No dropped connections yet.

$23 for a N router which works great, can't beat that

Cons: - Height is a little too much but it fits in my TV cabinet. Might be a problem for others though.

Rating + 1 Pathetic

Pros: Makes a Nice Paperweight. Cheap if you buy it as refurb.

Cons: Just about everything else. 'Smart wizard' software they claim is in the box doesn't exist, including on the website. Incredibly complex, non-intuitive setup. Although they claim a 30 day tech support with refurb, in actual practice this doesn't exist. The only way you get to talk to a live tech is to buy their 'premium' tech support which costs more than the router itself. All around, something to be avoided, unless you really enjoy wasting time and money. My first (and last) netgear product

Rating + 1 BAD company

Pros: Decent router, can be flashed with DD-WRT, but be careful to use the correct version. (Read the DD-WRT wiki carefully.)

Cons: NETGEAR tech support is PATHETIC. They refuse to honor a warranty on my refurbished product, even though the box contained a printed 30-day warranty card. They kept me on hold for a manager for 20-30 minutes on three consecutive calls and disconnected me each time. This is a VERY BAD company that happens to make good products.

Rating + 5 DD WRT is the way forward

Pros: you can install DD WRT on this router whic i highly recommend. makes this router everything it should be. rarely drops connections and it never has to be reset.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: DD WRT install was simple and painless and drastically increases the capabilities of this router

Rating + 3 Great, unless you use vpn or games

Pros: Reception and data rates are good. Draft N appears to work with my dell intel-draft N card. Only loses signal once in a while. Price was quite good at the time.

Cons: Couldn't use my work VPN through this router. Their software was old so I figured it was likely related to that. That was a handful of months ago.

Lately I've been having trouble playing network games of the PS3 game, Bad Company. Two game joins are required, the first fails but the second often works. Tried dmzing the ps3, disabling or running nat in open mode, disabling stateful packet inspection, disabling firewall, been running the latest firmware for some time now.

When I tried going straight from the PS3 to the cable modem everything works great so its obviously something going on with the router. I've had the router for a year or so now and I'm wondering what else it might be screwing up. Looking at purchasing a new wireless router because taking the rest of the PCs off of the internet when I'm using the ps3 is a huge pain. Probably going to look at a linksys since I've had good luck with those in the past.

Rating + 3 Eh, try sticking to something with antenna

Pros: Sleek Design, easy setup, decent connection in short range.

Cons: If you're trying to connect to something from normal range, connection isnt that great. Drops out from time to time. Switched to DD-WRT and boosted the tx antenna to get a signal boost and I still cant get a full signal from about 35-40 feet away.

Other Thoughts: none just wish I would have saved my money and got a decent router.

Pros: You can install DD-WRT an open soruce firmware for more features. Full speeds. no dropped connection, wireless N, what else can i say :)

Cons: This router bricked on me when flashing to new firmware. Few months later i try again and it worked. (My Fault)

Other Thoughts: Would recommend it to anyone.

Pros: It's pretty.

Cons: My notebook just wouldn't stay connected, and when it did connect the speed was all over the map, but usually on the slow side.

Other Thoughts: Didn't buy it here. My bad.

I probably should have tried a firmware upgrade, etc., but I decided that N wasn't that important to me right now and bought a Linksys WRT54GL from NewEgg that is much better behaved so far.

Pros: Works flawlessly when (easily) flashed with DD-WRT. It's stable, fast, cool, and has never dropped a wireless connection!

Cons: None (after I removed Netgear's buggy firmware)

Other Thoughts: I haven't used N yet because all of my G cards work fine now.

Rating + 5 Upfront issues, but fixed them

Pros: Once properly configured this device works flawlessly. I have had no speed issues and can even get a signal on my wifi-enabled phone while in the garage, out in the apartment parking lot (50 yards away), and inside the complex clubhouse (about 50 yards away, through my walls and theirs). It is set to wireless g mode because we still have G devices in the apartment.

Cons: Hybrid Mode: Known issue causing issues when negotiating between N and G. By default the device should backlevel to G Mode, but doesn't, and therefore crashes. Forums on linksys, netgear, and dlink sites indicated that this is potentially a firmware issue, but also related to N adapters constantly trying to communicate a N speeds. Unless you are using all N adapters, set the speed default to 54 Mbps on the router and on the N adapter.

Chipsets: Mingling different manufacturer devices can cause issues as well due to the chipsets they use. This is one of the issues they are trying to resolve for the N standard. Unfortunately, the big companies seem to be split on which sets to use. If you have a bunch of linksys adapters, well, buy a linksys router to be safe. I have had little issue with this however with my netgear/linksys mixture.

Network Attacks: Noticed alot of ACK and SYN Flood (DoS attacks) in the logs. Enabling MAC address filtering eliminated this and reduced outage freque

Other Thoughts: Weigh your needs versus what you are buying. This device will require some configuration and if you are not familiar with the technology or comfortable playing around with it, go with something simpler, like the one touch setup routers.

Also remember that wireless router technology is still evolving and will continue to do so rapidly. Unless you absolutely need Wireless-N, stick with wireless G.

Also keep in mind that the speed of your internet connection is dictated not by your internal network but by your internet provider. I believe the average offering today is 6Mbps (usually operates at 10-12) with the max being around 40Mbps (residential). The point is that a connection from your computer at 300Mbps is still only going to surf the net at the maximum speed allowed by your provider.

Using G i download files at 1+ MB/Sec (not Megabits)

Hope this helps!

Rating + 5 Great DD WRT Router

Pros: Speed and Reliability on the DD WRT Firmware.

Cons: Netgear firmware sucks but dump it and go to open source like DD WRT!!!

Other Thoughts: Other the netgear firmware this router rocks! Fast Reliable never drops connection even under heavy load. Highly recommend using DD WRT or other such open source firmware.

Pros: Style

Cons: Wireless connection is very slow. And at time, it would drop my connection and would not be able to find it for hours or if I did a hard reset. I complained to Netgear and they said they would ship a new one at my expense. Going back to Linksys.

Rating + 1 Absolute garbage

Pros: I wish.

Cons: Garbage is the only word that perfectly describes this piece of hardware. I ordered a refurbished unit (they are refurbished by Netgear themselves) to be used when I moved into my new apartment. Within two weeks of using it (yes, I said two weeks), it has already become a paperweight. The equipment has entered a “lock-out” mode that constantly restarts itself and cannot be cured by even a standard factory reset by holding the reset button. I had to email Netgear to get a special procedure to reset the device so that I could attempt to use it again. Once reset, the same problem arose by the next day.

Not only that but it seemed to restrict by bandwidth to my wired PC while using a bittorrent client to upload, even with the proper port forwarded to the computer. While uploading, the internet connection would come to almost a complete halt.

Needless to say, this has been replaced by a TP-LINK no-name router from this website and it works beautifully. Goodbye forever, Netgear.

Rating + 2 Short Shelf Life

Pros: good signal, easy setup

Cons: poor value given the high price, short shelf life

Other Thoughts: I bought this router thinking I was set for having a wireless router for the next couple years. Instead, I found after owning it for about 10 months that the wireless started to drop out on me. Wired connections to the router still work very well, but the wireless connections seem to have lost their reliability. When wired devices from a wireless device, ping times were highly erratic.

If you asked me a few months ago if this was a good router, I would have said yes. Now that I realize how short a shelf life this product had, I have to recommend that you avoid it completely.

Pros: best i have ever used and i have shopped around used linksys(all trash), belkin, netgear and trendnet and this ones beats all of them

Cons: did you notice that a couple of reviews from "different" users have the same exact wording in the same places seems kinda funny to me

Other Thoughts: i am constantly building networks and the only thing better than this would be the gigabit version of this same router which i use at my house paired with a netgear n pci card for 300mbps i get a ping time of 4ms most times and i have never seen it drop below 100% connection period through a floor and five walls i can walk my laptop two houses down with this baby

Rating + 1 Two dead in 6 months

Pros: *Simple setup
*Easy to configure as a bridge (turn off DHCP)
*Attractive package
*Good throughput

Cons: *Both routers purchased together died--completely inoperative. 1st in 26 days, 2nd in 6 months.
*Poor range (20 feet then throughput drops fast)
*Router and co-branded PCM cards have worse range than old 802.11g setup (Negear 824 and Internal Wireless on Thinkpads and MacBook Pros)

Other Thoughts: I bought the Gigabit version over the weekend and returned to the office and found the 2nd WNR834B router dead. Reviews seem more favorable, keeping my fingers crossed.

Rating + 5 Works great for my setup

Pros: Seems very stable. Connects well with other brand equipment.

Cons: Initial config seems more complicated than it needed to be (did not use the 'wizard' CD).

Other Thoughts: I picked one of these up on closeout at one of the office supply places, thinking it had GigE ports. Decided to keep it anyway since it had support to be a 'master' for other wireless bridges, and I was indeed able to get my old Belkin G router to function as a bridge so I could remove the ethernet cable hanging across my wall to connect my Xbox 360. This configuration works quite well, streams media to my 360 and plays online very well. This router also connects to my G laptop (Intel card I believe) just fine. No faster than connecting with the old Belkin router (obviously), but no issues making it talk, either. Both the Xbox and Vuze on my PC were able to open required ports via UPNP, which they did NOT on the Belkin. I am debating getting a second one to replace the Belkin so I can get N speed to the Xbox for streaming HD content. The replacement Netgear model which DOES have GigE ports seems to have done away with the bridging feature or I'd get one of those.

Pros: Good Connection, Good overall speed, No Connection Drops as others have posted.

Cons: Price. None really.

Other Thoughts: My laptop is a "g", and I'm running the router in g mode, auto channel, up to 130mbps - "Neighbor Friendly Mode - Default speed up to 130 Mbps in presence of neighboring wireless networks."

And all is working as expected. I have not had to reset the router at all and it has been up and running for 14 Days

Pros: it works NOW

Cons: set up is ok IF you do not change the network prior to installation. Netgear constantly referred to online instructions but couldn't get online. Finally found instructions three files deep on set up cd. No problems with router or powering up but wireless portion was intermittent from the get go. After spending hours with support, they suggested to return it for warranty. Instead, I disassembled the unit and found the wireless card was not making a good connection. Something to try to before returning or discarding the unit.

Pros: High security, nice GUI, easy to setup, solid device. I do not understand why people are leaving bad feedback here, I have owned this device for a long time, and I did not have a single problem with it. My wife is using her laptop (with Windows XP Pro) which is about 50 feet away from the router and the internet connection is really really fast on her laptop, it does not drop the connection, she gets five bars, moreover the wireless NIC is running on G band so I set the router to the G band. People are saying that when you switch to the G band, it is really terrible, I don't get it. May be they have too many wireless or cordless devices in the same area, isolate the device you won't have a problem. I hardwire my desktop PC to this badboy and I have not had any problems so far. Make sure to update the firmware.

Cons: None so far. Don't be fooled by the comments like "what kind of a wireless router is that, it doesn't even have any antennas" It is funny, if that was the case they would rather build GPS systems with 10000 antennas, but you see you don't even see antennas on them anymore, just better technology. Besides this router has 3 antennas inside.

Other Thoughts: I have used Netgear and D-link products for a long time and this product sure deserves 5 stars!

Cons: Price at the time.

Rating + 1 AVIOD THIS WIRELESS ROUTER

Pros: It looks nice.

Cons: This was a horrible decision on my part (I bought from buy - though, wish I had checked out other reviews here). I want to warn people about this horrible device. I bought 3 of them so I could have an access point on each floor of my house. 2 of them have failed now! Green light & nothing else. Can't reset, can't do anything. Customer service was painfully slow. After paying $20 for an advance exchange, then the email updated said the product was backordered. Just horrible experience - please aviod - don't make my mistake!

Other Thoughts: Please please avoid this one!

Pros: I purchased this router at Best Buy in order to replace an old linksys wireless router. The range on this router is about a good 80 feet with walls and the speeds are great. I have had no problem with backwards compatibility with b/g.

Cons: The price and range is okay.

Other Thoughts: After reading a couple reviews about 300ms ping + this is most likely caused because others were using another router in the same area as you like a neighbor. This can easily be fixed by changing the channel. Also another small problem I come across occasionally is the internet light stays amber and wont go to green if I release the internet through the router. You can fix this by re entering and copying the mac address from the modem into the router and it should work again. I hope this helps anyone that is having problems.

Rating + 1 Stay Away from this Router

Pros: The coverage was good and this NetGear route was available 100% of the time compared to the 108-G I had before.

Configuration wizard was easy to navagate

Cons: Like many of the other reviews the router die for no reason and I am not able to get more then a solid green power light. I have tried everything I can think of to get some type of response, but nothing yet. The other isseue I seemed to have was with accessing the setup, I could not get access to the login screen.

I have been talking to tech support about this issue and at this time have not gotten any valuable assistance. I would not recommend this router to anyone and I would also suggest not buying from NetGear.

Other Thoughts: I did not buy this router from Newegg.com - but wish I had as I am also not getting any support from the popular electronics retailer/online company based out of California regarding the issue.

Pros: Nice looking, decent performance when working.

Cons: Defective design and/or manufacturing, terrible customer service.

Other Thoughts: The unit worked, then died without warning. It simply stopped working for no apparent reason. The RMA procedure was atrocious. First, they hide the RMA number on their website. Once you find the number, you must navigate their phone system, which again is oriented to hide the RMA extension. Once you do this, you will get a tech support person with an accent thicker than molassis in January. If you can understand what the tech says, you will be asked to hook up the system and go through a series to tests to determine if you are a lame noob whose user error created the problem. After all of this, the tech permits you to RMA the unit. What a beneficent gift! And what a hassle. The whole procedure took about an hour, and I was angry at the end of it. Avoid this unit (and if you can, Netgear) because the unit is defective, and the company does NOT care about customer service.

Pros: None

Cons: 1. Changed the router login 10 times, but the new one will not stay. 2. Wired performance unreliable, especially when using port forwarding. 3. Wireless is the worst I've ever seen (compared to at least 50 routers of other brands). An old B router from 5 years ago blows it away.

Other Thoughts: I traded a 5-year-old B router for this N router as a favor. Someone owes me big.

Rating + 5 Pretty Good upgrade

Pros: Better Range than typical wireless routers - Nice, stable box.

Cons: Need special adapters for systems to utilize better tranfer rates.

Other Thoughts: I've been using this router for several months now - bought one that had been refurbished. I think it works great. I have the Wireless-N adaptor for my laptop, and speeds are great on that. My desktop system is currently using a standard Wireless-G usb adaptor, so the speeds aren't that great. But this is impressive nonetheless as I currently have my router installed on the second floor of my house and the computers are on the first floor. I plan on buying the Wireless-N PCI or USB adaptor for my Desktop system soon, and I think this will make things much better...

Rating + 4 No Problems For Me..... Works Great

Pros: Stable, strong signal/range, easy configuration, very good speed, works great in WPA2 on my laptops with the original cards supplied by the manufacturer (HP & Dell, Intel 3945 a/b/g cards).

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: In reading many of the other negative reviews, I have to say that I am confused as to why those users had issues. My wireless connection has been great. There are three routers on my network. One is used to send a signal to the WNR834B (#2) and to the third router that supplies service to my internal LAN. WNR834B and the router for my internal LAN are setup with static IP addresses that are reserved in router 1. Works great for my needs.

Rating + 1 2 died within 1 year

Pros: Overall I've like the features and throughput when it works.

Cons: I have had 2 die within the year. Netgear's consumer support is horrible. How hard is it to troubleshoot, the power light is on and nothing else? Evidently it takes several hours plus hold time. Then they transfer you to an RMA department which can almost never help you initially but will call back within 24 hours. This never has happened, but instead I end up calling back a week later. If you own this the extended warranty is a good buy but good luck getting them to fulfill it. This is the third new Netgear product I’ve had replace in a year.
To give them some credit, the last time I called their technical support was better but I worked with them via the web based support first. The RMA department is still the same though.

Rating + 1 Router comes with headache

Pros: Sleek design, fast wired connection when it worked.

Cons: This router had constant problems keeping an Internet connection. Worse yet, it caused my cable modem to physically reboot every 10 to 15 minutes.

Netgear blamed my ISP and of course my ISP blamed Netgear.

After trying numerous different configurations, disabling the firewall, a firmware update, changing MTU sizes and disabling the QoS engine, I hit the web to find out what others said.

It appears that this router has a bad reputation for Internet disconnects and Netgear does not seem to have any idea how to fix it.

Another big disappointment was the signal strength. When it would work, the wireless signal strength was horrible.

With my laptop sitting less than 5 feet from it, with nothing blocking reception, I would only get 3 bars. At more than 10 feet away I was lucky to get 2 bars.

Other Thoughts: I returned this one and picked up another wireless N router on the market and it worked flawlessly once configured. It looks like my ISP was the one who was correct, this is a Netgear issue.

Cons: Poor signal strength. Unable to connect without rebooting the router.

Other Thoughts: Every day the router has to be rebooted before computers can connect to it. Signal strength is low. I use to be a big fan of Netgear stuff but this has changed my mind. I have seen cheap 802.11g routers that have more range than this one. I will be replacing soon.

I just replaced my second one of these the first was 4 months old the second was 6 weeks both failed to get me anything faster 250kb down on the wireless. sitting 4 feet from the device my Dell laptop would only get 1mb through put with no one else on the wireless.

Rating + 1 Worst Router I ever bought

Pros: none

Cons: the router will pull the public ip from modem initially, but once you make a change in the routers configurations, any change, and try to save, the router loses connection to the modem, all the status lights go green, and you have to power cycle the unit to get it working again, eventually at one point i had to leave it powered down for 5 minutes, additionally the router will reset it's configurations without you having to push the reset button.

Other Thoughts: This router was rushed into production, I was a big fan of netgear, not anymore, I would recommend the "D-link 655", excellent router for the buck

Pros: The setup for this device was very easy. I have setup many Netgear routers and the advanced setup was very straight forward. Setup the router in compatible mode so an older laptop could still connect. The older laptop Dell Latitude D600 had no problem connecting and keeping connection so far but with very slow speeds

Cons: Setup New HP laptop (DV9429US) using built in 'N' capabilities, constantly dropped signal when located outside of room where the router was. (new house construction with drywall and wood floors) the speeds where bad when 30 feet away. Very disappointed with router performance (I updated firmware like previous posts had mentioned) I would definitely wait on this product it is not ready for Prime time

Other Thoughts: Reading the other posts, I felt that the people did not setup the router correctly or did not update the firmware. I am a small business consultant and have setup over 100 routers this year alone, so I have a very high expertise and comfort level with this equipment. I had set this up for a friend of mine because he wanted the wireless speed. We have now switched to a Linksys Wireless G Router with no problems for over 1 week. Do not buy this Router yet maybe in 6 months when A new model comes out but not this one

Rating + 4 A decent buy, though a shade expensive

Pros: I haven't had any of the problems the others described — and I bought a refurb version. It performs well with g and n wireless cards (I own a MacbookPro), has all the standard settings (uPnP, WPA2 Enterprise Encryption, etc). Service is stable and high with several other competing networks.

Cons: It's kinda bulky - sometimes, I would prefer a smaller base with antennaes coming out of it.

Rating + 1 Avoid at all costs

Pros: Pretty white box, nice paperweight

Cons: operation, tech support, manufacturer's willingness to support

Other Thoughts: I purchased the router with seven 311 access cards, for use on computers that interface with financial websites. Router would NOT allow connections--unplug the router and it works fine. Seems there is a firmware problem. Tech Support is worse than banging your head against the wall. First they send you to morans in indi a, where accent and common sense stretch your ability to get anything accomplished, after 45 min on the phone to re-confirm the data registration. Then stupid questions that make you sure that Netgear wants you to figure it out for yourself long before you finish the phone call. If your problem persists, then you are sent to tech support in the Phillipines, where again you wonder how these people were ever hired. If your problem still persists, you may get the phone number for tech support in the US--where they claim to either fix your problem or give a refund. That is until they hear that you bought more than one. Then another sorry excuse about they are unabl

Pros: Setup wasn't as hard as some others say. Plug it in and it works, except vista OS wireless clients

Cons: Beside its big, kinda expensive... it doesn't support wireless vista OS if you using stock firmware since its advertised it does. Just upgrade to the lastest firmware and it will be fine.
The signal is dropped frequently as you always encourage with any netgear rounters.

Other Thoughts: I don't see any good idea to buy to this router, spend a little more and go with linksys

Pros: Ease of setup. Signal strength. Interoperability with all wireless cards. No interference with 2.4 cordless phones.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If you can't get your network up and running with the setup cd, you should just unplug your computer equipment, box it up, and donate it to charity.

Rating + 5 Awesome Router

Pros: This product was very easy to install. I had no problems following the setup instructions. Also updated firmware directly from NetGear without any problems. The connection is fast and reliable. I have a workstation with a USB wireless adapter attached and I am impressed with the connectivity speed.

Cons: None

Rating + 3 Hard to setup

Pros: Great speed and receptoin if you are in a one level house.

Cons: It took an hour with technical support to manually configure my internal wifi network card with this router. The router would not automatically assign an IP address. I also installed a Netgear wireless N PCI card in my desktop upstairs (25 feet away) and was able to get a "very good" signal after days of moving the antenna around. It still has choppy streaming video poor web cam performance. If there are other wireless networks in range they interfere with the Netgear router's signal blocking your PC.

Other Thoughts: This router will also interfere with your cordless phone.

Rating + 1 Very poorly engineered

Pros: None

Cons: Many issues with this piece of hardware. To start, the signal quality for both N and G are very poor. I got only 3 bars (according to windows) using an N card. G was much worse. This is due to the smart idea of internal antennas. The second, and more crutial problem was N support. I had both this router and a netgear N PCI card. I was getting average web page load times of over 30 seconds. If i were to ping the router locally, I would most of the time get replies of over 300ms.

Other Thoughts: Went out and bought the Linksys Wireless N version, and havent had a problem yet.

Rating + 1 big steaming pile

Pros: None

Cons: Wirless (the few times it works) is VERY VERY SLOW. Have to update firmware to most current for the wireless to even work.

Other Thoughts: I've dealt with 2 of these now, before updating the firmware, the wirless would connect reliably, BUT WOULD NOT LOAD ANY WEBSITE! After loading new firmware, everything started working, for about a half hour, then pages wouldn't load, even though windows showed the wireless connection at 54Mbps with Excellent signal strength. rebooting the router would make it work again......for a while, then same thing.

Online speed tests at dslreports shows around 750Kbps on two different PCs that consistantly test above 5Mbps with my old netgear router.
the wired part of the router is solid, but the wireless is a big steaming pile.

I have setup many wireless networks, with all brands of routers, and have yet to have any real problems, until this pile.
Keep in mind this is the 2nd unit of this model, that has acted exactly the same, so I doubt it's a sample defect.

Good luck if you buy this thing.

Rating + 4 Setup

Pros: works

Cons: Setup is horreible, you really need to know what you're doing to setup this baby. Vague error messages are common theme...
In addition to setup the management tool is pretty basic, I tried to upgrade the firmware which fail with the message "Failure". Did I say the error messages are vague?

Other Thoughts: For a high-end home router I would expect Netgear to invest a little more time into developing good management tools.

Rating + 2 Frequent Restarts Required

Pros: Wireless coverage and speeds are great from this router, so long as you're on the LAN.

Cons: This router frequently has to have the power plug removed and plugged back in in order to maintain a connection with my broadband modem. I can connect to other computers through the router, but the modem does not even respond to a ping after about 10-15min.

Other Thoughts: I am running the 1.0.3.5 firmware which corrected earlier problems with connecting to certain websites through the wireless which worked fine on the ethernet ports. I am hoping that a future firmware fixes the restart problems, until then I do not recommend it.

Rating + 1 Frustrating, erratic and dead after 4 months

Pros: Stylish, for the moments when it it works, it works well.

Cons: Cramped bandwith, erratic coverage, constantly resetting itself and/or requiring a hard reset, buggy software, and HIDEOUS customer support.

Other Thoughts: I'm a loyal longtime Netgear customor, but this router was the final straw. After a relatively smooth setup, I discovered that the router constantly crashes and resets itself, bottlenecks bandwidth in measureable ways, and doesn't permit the most basic wireless security. Even with the cobranded "RangeMax" network card the speed boost is negligible. After 4 months of spotty service, it finally stoppe dworking entirely... the software corrupt for reasons which remained unclear after 2 hours wrestling with their sketchy tech support, which consisted mostly of sympathetic noises and reading responses off of xeroxed instructions. Aftre conceding the router's failure, they then announced that I could pay to have them get a refurbished replacement to me in a week or else wait 2 weeks (or more). Shame on me for supporting this kind of company policy by giving them my money. Never again. This WNR834B RangeMax router is an unremitting piece of junk and the last ANYTHING I'll buy from Netgear. Pros: Good signals Good speeds. Standerd Netgear router config options.

Cons: Nothing bad to say.

Other Thoughts: This router replaced an older Netopia router I had, so I also got a Zoom 5615 modem.

Pros: Replaces a linksys Wireless Router WRT54GS with Speedbooster. Also had the matching Linksys NIC. I also had put HyperWRT with increase antenna power and the linksys 7db antennas. This Netgear WNR834B is roughly twice the range for typical B/G stuff. Previously, I could not even connect downstairs. Went and upgrade the PCI NIC futherest with the matching N card and it is transmitting at 270Mbps with 100-90% signal. All working.

Cons: May not favor not netgear hardware as well.

Rating + 4 Comment on "Not what I expected ....."

Pros: N/A

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: I have never used this product but just wanted to comment on the misunderstanding of the person giving the comments under the title "Not what I expected......"

For an MIMO (multiple-input-multiple-output) system to perform the best, you would need matching transceivers on both sides, meaning both sides should have multiple antennas, thereby creating multiple channels between corresponding antenna pairs. If you have this router on one end and your old network adapter which has only one antenna on the other, you do not have multiple channels. The speed of this router would be faster not because the signal strengh is greater but because you will have multiple channels active at the same time if you have multiple antenna pairs. So it makes perfect sense that the router gives you the same connection speed as your linksys router.
You need to get the range max adapter too.

Rating + 3 Not what i expected......

Pros: One of the better pre-N routers. Easy to set-up and noticable difference in connectivity to already existing wireless-g computers (in close proximity).

Cons: The range on this thing was horrible. I first bought this to increase the range around my home from a linksys wireless-g router. However, i was receiving 5.5mbps using this router about 125 feet away...the same mbps i was receiving with my linksys. I figure that the use of the "range max" cards sold by netgear would have a drastic effect but i don't see where it is worth it. I was amazed to find that the range of this thing was equal to that of a simple wireless-g router. Not worth the money and i feel that he "internal antennas" actually hinder the performance of this product.

Rating + 5 Finally router that stays up...

Pros: This router stays connected and does not appear to have signal drop as so many routers do...

Cons: Probably need to connect with an "N" wireless card. While there is no requirement for this my experience with this router is that the matching "N" Netgear Wireless card may well be key.
