Great Combo Deal
Pros: This modem router combo is awesome! It's cheaper then buying a router and a modem from your ISP.
Cons: Sometimes the modem will crash needing a restart but thats usually once in a blue moon.
Other Thoughts: If the auto configuration settings don't work for you don't fret, get on your old modem and see if you can get them. For me all it took was a quick call to AT&T tech support and to ask what settings I needed to use to get online. If you act like you know what you're talking about they're more then likely cough them up.

DG834G Works Fine
Pros: Newegg user reviews were very helpful in shedding light on the first indication of trouble displayed by the DG834G front panel lights. The documentation on the Netgear Resouce CD said that before the computer is turned on, hook up the DSL phone line, an ethernet line, and then the power cord. You should get a series of green lights indicating the DG834G is initialized. In my case, the last light (INTERNET) flashed red. The DG834G did let me power up the computer and access the DG834G setup from my browser via the http 198.162.0.1 address. I changed the VPI value under ADSL settings, from _8_ to _0_ (from eight to zero). Then, hit the APPLY icon. Immediately, the GREEN INTERNET light illuminated. It took another minute to enter my (verizon) ISP login and password info. No problems since.
Separately, my Zonet (from Newegg) USB WIFI unit connected without a hitch.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: I bought this unit to replace a Westell Wirespeed DSL unit that was dated 4/01, made in Malasia. I normally buy via Newegg, but had to make a fast purchase at a local big box store, to get back on line.

Easy to set up
Pros: Easy to set up. Can jump to 192.168.0.1 and use admin, password login to set this up, avoiding the installation CD. I was up and running in a few minutes with the web based interface. Works fine with AT&T dry loop DSL. Just enter your PPPoE info and it will connect.
Cons: Not any faster than my old 2Wire modem/router, at least without any tweaking.
Other Thoughts: Does get a little warm, though not much more than old 2Wire unit.

Try firmware update first
Pros: Solid wireless range for it's size. Replaces my DSL modem and Linksys router with something that by early indicators should consume 1/3 the power (saving me ~$2 a month). Still a little early, since I just got it running today but if it continues to run I'll be happy.
Cons: Heck, that setup was difficult even with my degree in computer science (and not from phoenix on-line). I had saved off the settings from my Qwest modem and attempted both auto and manual setup out of the box to no avail. After some frustration, I relaunched my Qwest modem and downloaded a firmware update and that did the trick.
This modem also runs hot enough that I've taken caution to create a little stand for it.
Other Thoughts: If you buy this modem try the following before you get frustrated.
1) Download the latest firmware (for me that was 5.1.14) and update the router 2) reboot the device 3) Then attempt setup.
The router desperately wants to auto-configure, but in order to avoid the router trying to run auto-configure navigate to 192.168.0.1/index.htm to update firmware

Great all-in-one unit
Pros: Compact all-in-one unit contains DSL modem, router, and wireless access point. Sleek design. Simple web interface.
Cons: Autoconfiguration didn't work for me. After an hour on the phone with AT&T, I called Netgear. They had me change the VPI setting to 0 to make it work. I didn't see this in Netgear's printed documentation.
Other Thoughts: I could not get a brand new HP Compaq Presario CQ60-215DX to connect to WiFi if the DG834G wireless mode was set to "g only". It would only work if I set it to "b & g". I don't know if the wireless router or the notebook was the problem, but they are both 802.11g so "g only" should work.

Works well, Tricky config with Verizon
Pros: Good range. Good amount of features. Instead of a DSL modem and a wireless router, I now have one small unit that replaces both.
Cons: Autoconfig did not work. It kept thinking that I have a static IP, which I don't. Trying to get to the manual config. screen was difficult, as it kept wanting to go back to the auto config. screen. I did a hard reset and was able to get in. Once I got in, it was easy to manually configure.
Other Thoughts: My ISP (Verizon) looks for the mac address of the modem they gave me when I signed up. You have to plug this mac address into the new router and have it use that address or their servers will not allow you to connect.

Can't recommend.
Pros: Small compact unit that can potentially replace a DSL modem and router with one box. Nice set of configuration features. Setup wizard worked very well. . . easy to install.
Cons: Would frequently lose internet connection. Netgear support was not helpful, telling me I needed to have a line test done before they would work with me. My ISP would not do a line test because I was not using their DSL modem. Nice catch 22. Overall, reliability was considerably less than my ISP supplied modem. I would have to power cycle the modem several times a day to maintain internet connectivity.
Other Thoughts: If it works for you, great. And it worked great when it worked. Don't expect any help from your ISP. The Netgear forum was nice, but not able to solve my problem. I'm trying to get an RMA, but the newegg RMA request website doesn't seem to be working now.

Unit did not last
Pros: Modem/wireless router
Cons: I have to reset this gateway everyday and sometimes twice.
Netgear Support did not respond to my email to the address on the side of the box.
Other Thoughts: switching to the d-link DSL gateway

Pros: Easy to setup, it works just as described. Auto config worked great better then calling my ISP and asking for the info...
Cons: runs a little hot, was a little surprised by how hot it was getting.
Other Thoughts: from what i can tell it has great range.

Great Router!
Pros: All in one unit. Small. Attractive. Matches my Netgear print server that I bought for $2, lol.
Cons: No auto setup for my connection.
Other Thoughts: Had a little issue setting it up. I am using it with Cable & Wireless Co. It would not auto-detect. I had to change some of the settings on the second page in setup, which I believe included the port. After that, it picked up the IP no problem. Thanks Newegg!

Great Combo
Pros: Works with Verizon & everything else I've tried. Top of the heap - Bang for the buck
Cons: None here. Ok! it runs a little on the warm side
Other Thoughts: I would like to know how others are having problems. The DSL feature has worked with ATT, Verizon & Qwest ( all that I've tried so far ) without issue.

finally works with Verizon
Pros: much stronger signal than my old modem. can achieve faster download/upload speed. configuring settings are fast and simple.
Cons: none now
Other Thoughts: called verizon for the 4th time to to fricken reset my internet line and it worked. i guess the problem was verizon not netgear.

Pros: nice looking
Cons: DOES NOT WORK WITH VERIZON, atleast for me. auto detect woudlnt detect it, so then i manually entered int eh settings and it still detects nothing. called verizon and they couldnt do anything about and told me to call netgear. so i called netgear and they couldnt do anything about and told me to call verizon? w-t-f??? maybe i could've just gotten fautly one.
Other Thoughts: does anyone has it working with verizon? if so how??

Love it
Pros: Quick html admin page; easy interface with settings logically grouped; worked great out of the box with AT&T DSL (8/35 VPI/VCI settings).
Cons: Very lightweight which gives it a delicate feel; would be nice to have it feel more robust but I doubt that'll impact its functioning.
Other Thoughts: Very nice product and Newegg shipped quickly and it arrived when they said it would.

Excellent router/DSL modem
Pros: This is an excellent router, I have owned a lot of netgear routers and with the DSL modem option in this router it makes in an excellent choice for someone that doesn't want to pay the DSL company for a low end router that costs way too much money.
Cons: Seems a little more complicated in the configuration for lower end users, I had no trouble with it but somebody relatively new to networking might have trouble finding some of the features.

Great DSL Modem
Pros: Has everything built in. Its an access point, its a switch, its a DSL modem, its a router, its a firewall, its a DHCP server. It even has VPN options. Easy to setup and works in the USA just fine. Very stable and no problems with it. Good wireless coverage and works with all the major DSL options out there. It will even auto detect your configuration. Good LEDs on the front that tell you problems.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: My other router was needing to be reset daily. After replacing it with this one, no problems. I also now get my full DSL speed of 10Mbps where the best I could do on the other one was 7Mbps. It does work better if you tune it exactly to your DLS specs instead of using the auto-detect feature.

nice, but put it on a chill pad!
Pros: i've had this unit for a while and it has many nice features which allow a great amount of security - not to mention i no longer need a modem and a router! just one handy unit. wireless signal is strong. very little configuring and very compatible with vista!
Cons: it gets real hot and when it can't take it any more you have to unplug and let it cool down to get your signal back. all wireless routers suffer from heat build up though. it does not like mobo's with dual ethernet connections. crashes everytime i plug both of my ethernet connections up. maybe it is just my board though.
Other Thoughts: buy a notebook chill pad, slap on some velcro at the bottom of the router, crank up your chill pad and this thing will stay as cool as ice! and you will never lose your signal due to heat build up! they should really start putting some sort of fan on these routers as heat build up is becoming much more typical. using the fan on a chill pad should really increase the life span of your router. also, plug this thing into your battery back up. phone jacks and all! or, if lightning strikes, your modem will be fried. also, if power goes out you can surf the web on your laptop for about two hours! because dsl is not dependant on power as cable modem's are!

Nice unit for a wireless DSL router
Pros: Set and configuration were easy. Everything worked flawlessly.
Cons: The unit was great. What limits it is the data rates that DSL ISPs in the US provide. The DSL modem can handle much higher data rates. Too bad ATT's DSL service is so lame. In the end I went with cable internet and am much happier.

Horrible tech support
Pros: easy to install.
Cons: Absolutely the worst tech support imaginable. Frequent loss of connectivity at high download speeds. Tech support technicians do not speak English well. Called about a transfer rate of 7 KB/s. Technician talked over me, never let me identify problem. Finally got his attention. Recommended I upgrade firmware with a download not available in my area and not an upgrade. When I called his attention to this he gave me some double talk about TCP?IP stack. Asked to speak to supervisor. He said supervisor would call back. No call. Called back. New technician worse. Barely intelligible. Refused to connect me to someone else. Hung up and will call back. You get the idea.
Other Thoughts: Unless you possess a high degree of technical knowledge, avoid this router like the plague.

Fantastic Combo Router/Modem
Pros: Awesome product, my internet connection has never worked better. My internet speed is running at full speed on all 3 computers on the network! My advice is buy one, couldn't be easier to set up.
Cons: It's not free, nor should it be.
Other Thoughts: Great price for both a modem and a router. Uses less space and fewer cords having both in one box!!

Netgear is Junk!
Pros: Nice package, DSL modem, and router, that has some neat tricks.
Cons: Doesn't work. I have DSL through Cutthroat Communications, via reseller. It uses Qwest copper. After dinking with the settings for a number of days, and going back and forth with the abysmal tech support, I finally got some settings that looked like they would work, from my ISP. Too bad the unit doesn't save changes anymore. I'll change them, and then they revert back to factory settings.
Other Thoughts: Me: "I have a problem with my DSL modem." Netgear: "Is that a DSL connection, or a cable connection?"

6 Eggs
Pros: I wanted to correct my earlier post --- where I identified a "Con" for this unit as not being able to limit wireless connections to specific MAC addresses. This router has this ability...after a little more exploration of the configuration abilities, I found it. This unit DOES ALOT and is a GREAT DEAL!!!
Cons: None now

Awesom
Pros: Everything about it. This consolidates my modem and router. One power plug, one ethernet cable, and one central point to configure my internet connection. This also doubbled my download speeds from my stock dsl modem. Confirmed download speeds through normal web browser download, several speed test websites, and on torrent downloads.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: Wish the industry would make more of these type of products.

Recommendation: Buy
Pros: Out-of-box auto-configuration (with Verizon, Washington DC area)...perfect [*many* other reviews that I read for other products bemoaned unit configurations with Verizon network]
Wireless signal...strong
Nice logical configuration interface to administer device
Nice support of network and security protocols
Cons: No MAC address authentication
Other Thoughts: Our spotty Verizon-supplied Westell DSL Modem/Router was nearing the end of its usable life. I wanted a quality, reliable, value-oriented, one-box replacement. I've used LinkSys, D-Link wireless products in the past and been impressed, but never had the opportunity to own any Netgear. This modem/router received nice reviews from critics and users alike and had all of the main features I was looking for. The only thing that I was *worried* about prior to buying was the dreaded connectivity with my ISP... Verizon. However, they advertised it as a Verizon equipment replacement so that alleviated my fears about getting a headache and I rolled the dice a bit, but came up with 7s!!

NetgearDSL modem/router
Pros: First had a DLink dsl/router unit. Terrible, refused to work properly, even after many redisconnects and re-starts. RMA'd it and got the Netgear DG83g instead. This unit works flawlessly and was a breeze to installo, less than ten minutes. It does everything the mfr. claims it will do.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Will use this unit again on future customer builds.

WORKS GREAT
Pros: DSL MODEM AND ROUTER IN 1
Cons: NONE

Qwest ADSL Support Doubtful
Pros: This is a very attractive and compact DSL modem/router with all the features you would normally want including wireless, 4 ethernet ports, and good management software accessible as a webpage.
Cons: This modem does not work with Qwest ADSL service in the US. Qwest only reluctantly gives support for the modem. When we got it set up, everything functioned (IP address, ping, DNS) as expected, but internet (http) does not work. Netgear support finally told us that this model only works in United Kingdom, not USA. After several days hassling with this, and several harrowing hours on the phone, we'll RMA and go back to Actiontec.
Other Thoughts: If Netgear support is correct and this model only works in the UK, why is it being sold in the USA? If they are incorrect, what value is their tech support? Furthermore, what does it mean on the box when they say "guaranteed Qwest compatible"? Netgear tech support disconnected at that point in the call.

Awesome
Pros: Easy to set up. Less than 10 minutes. Work great with 4 computers in the house playing World of Warcraft all at the same time. Have not had even one dissconnect, even during battle grounds or raiding.
Cons: Zip, none.

DG834G, Version 4
Pros: This router. DG834G version 4, has excellent range ,firmware, & almost automatic configuration with my ISP.
Cons: Runs too warm. It has a fixed antenna making it undesirable for someone who may require a different antenna. I did notice that the PCB has a place for a RP-SMA connector.

Best Choice in DSL Gateway
Pros: Easy of setup. Dial in to modem, prompt users for username and password and then sets itself up. 3-1 devices means less junk on my desk and plugged into my wall. Integration of three devices lends itself to superior high speed internet performance. Good enough to play BF2 with little to no lag.
Cons: none.
Other Thoughts: Best choice for upgrading DSL router and modem towards a DSL Gateway. ADSL2 ready. You get what you expect from Netgear. Money well spent and time well waited. I play BF2 using Belkin USB wireless adaptor. Works Great NO LAG with SBC Yahoo DSL 6Mb Service.

Best Router I've ever owned!
Pros: I bought this item about three years ago and I've had no problems with it at all. The wireless works perfectly, plus it has a decent range, I can pick up the wireless in my neighbors driveway across the street. The interface is simple and easy to use, it took me a few minutes to set up this router and I was done. It has WPA2, which is always a plus. It's ADSL ability makes it amazing. It makes it simple so I don't need more than one device to get internet, and since it's Netgear, it's pretty trustworthy. I put heavy usage on this because I am always downloading or playing on Xbox Live, and it doesn't even flinch at this. It even comes with a DSL filter for your phone line, and it comes with little plastic attachments to make the routher stand on its side.
Cons: None that I've been able to find.
Other Thoughts: I constantly am using this router and it doesn't lose connections or anything, which is perfect because most other routers I've used before this would drop out from the load. I've been running this thing for about three years, and it has worked perfectly. If your looking for a DSL Modem and want a Wireless Router built in, look no further, this is all you need, it's worth every penny because you wont end up buying a new one a few months down the road.

Has been working great
Pros: This is a great ADSL router. It's wireless range is outstanding and it's security features are very comforting. It has worked perfectly without need of a reboot or any lockups for more than a year. Netgear once again has made a quality product.
Cons: None really

Don have this one - but an NETGEAR user
Pros: When it works - it works. Good for the money, do not expect the best!
Cons: TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE SUPPORT. 1:45 minutes on the phone with every single rep or tech in their customer support. Finally with Managar I was able to get RMA number. NEVER NETGEAR AGAIN!!!
Other Thoughts: I'm an IT professional doing IT for living. Never been more frustrated - will avoid Netgear at all cost.

UPDATE on NETGEAR DG834G
Pros: Wanted to update--The external antenna on the back of the router is DETACHABLE ! You can straighten it out and pull plastic ring that covers "reverse SMA plug" connector and unscrew it. It is only 2dbi of transmitting power. Get 8 dbi stick from newegg by Rosewill or similar, even amplified antenna by Hawkings and screw it on to replace factory weak antenna. I was getting weak signal before because it had to go through monitor...30%, then i moved the setup and got 70%, then i got 5 dbi antenna for this unit to transmit and got a 15dbi corner antenna by Hawking for laptop receiver--now i am getting full 54Mbps transmit and receive on laptop at 100% that is stable all the time.
Cons: NONE
Other Thoughts: The color of the unit changed since my last review.

NETGEAR DG834G Wireless ADSL DSL router
Pros: If you are looking for a g-wireless DSL modem LAN with 4 cable connections router then this is a very good buy. Works great for noobs. My first experience with router was Lynksys router and it was bad--had to return it to NewEgg. Netgear is a company to fall in love with--this router comes with great for noobs software that is very smart and can almost do everything by itself, although, it might take you to exit and restart installation for it catch on and detect it right. I have Verizon DSL and at first I wasn't sure about some of the advanced settings needed or asked for but after awhile the router detected those settings automatically so don't worry about that. This Netgear product has great WPA-PSK security. I also bought a PCMCIA NETGEAR WN511T wireless adapter for my Sony Vaio laptop on _bay and it works great with this router. DG834G router looks slim and white--very modern look that will be easy on the eyes at any room in any house--very iPodish. (SEE below 4 more)
Cons: Perhaps because of small power supply without good voltage regulation...or?...it suffered loss of DSL signal during thunderstorm. I had to unplug the router and restart it after a delay for it to detect the signal again (like another reviewer said earlier) which means it's not an isolated instance and there is a definite weakness in this product. Make sure you get Uinterrupted Power Supply if connection is important to you. It seems like power fluctuations in power line can cause this to happen. The unit doesn't get very hot, warm to touch but the power supply could be beefier...a 1Amp would be good. You can replace the original with more powerful power supply with similar polarity/voltage specs and see if it increases reliability of this product. The range seems to be below of what I wanted from it--getting out of apartment (2 stories down) gets signal at below 30% or so which is disappointing but enough for normal user. If you are a power user use stronger n-wireless router.
Other Thoughts: n-wireless router from Netgear is unavailable in North America but if it becomes available I would recommend it...until then this is one of the best deals you can get for your hard earned money. DG834G is for beginners to advanced users alike whether in wireless or wired applications. Netgear's online setup of the router is not my favorite--local computer based would have been better but the onformation you get from that web site is very rich and you can learn about Networking from that site alone.

Great Modem/Router
Pros: Modem and router in one package. RJ-11 connection a definite plus. Relative ease of install for the novice.
Cons: After power failure or temporary interruption of power, with router on UPS, have to reset modem. Not a pain, but took a few minutes to figure out why it wasn't getting ADSL signal.
Other Thoughts: Customer service was awesome and very knowledgable. Helped me to get it working even though my ISP didn't support the modem. Very patient and great at trouble-shooting.

ATTENTION GAMERS:
Pros: Gets the job done without any complaints in terms of basic internet purposes.
Cons: This router was supplied by my cable company as a replacement for my previous router that had been fried from a direct lightning strike. Since having recieved the Netgear DG834G router, I have had trouble hosting the same online games prior, and it is also currently among the incompatibility list for the Nintendo Wii gaming console.

Get this one, you won't regret it!
Pros: No drama here. Been working quietly since day one. Instant login to network (PPOE)and has excellent wireless range. Tired of having to reset your router? Not a problem here. Just install it and forget it--works flawlessly.
Cons: none.
Other Thoughts: Had to change VPI (in ADSL settings) from default to 0 to get it to work with SBC-Houston

LOVE IT!!!
Pros: This router is very easy to setup and it has a lot of features. It's been very reliable over the past 4 month, only had to reset once.
Cons: I got mine at E_ _y and it's the refurbished model, it looked silver to me in the pic, but it's white. Not BIG DEAL! Still looks very sharp, specially when stood up with the provided legs/stands.
Other Thoughts: I currently have thre computers hooked up to it via RJ45 cables and one laptop wireless. The laptop is in a different room and it get a great signal, excellent value!

Comments: This is a great router! I went through 3 other router/modem's and none of them would reach my basement room.... This one comes through strong. Great options, great transmitting power/range, and very good looking and sturdy. I would recomend it over lyncsys and such any day.

This si a Great Router !
Comments: No disappointments here again from Netgear. As an avid fan of xxxx products for years, I am now also using Netgear products more and more. Both manufacturers offer great products, although Netgear pulls ahead in the feature-rich built-in firmware options. From the new Smart Wizard that auto-detects all settings, True Firewall with SPI, DoS, VPN, and their proprietary 5x speed boost, this G access point, DSL modem, router, switch DOES IT ALL ! The e-mail option is great for notifications, remote access via web browser si a breeze. As usual New Egg rocks on it's price, and service. Arrived flawless in 3 days. Take the extra year warranty for $xx
