Pros: This two unit kit has been a great solution for my problem: my cable internet enters the house in one remote corner of the building. Connecting the wireless router to the cable modem in that corner of the house left most of the house out of solid signal range of the wireless router. I bought the HDXB101 kit to move the router to a high spot in the center of the house...works great. Easy to setup, no pesky maintenence issues, great security. This was a simple and quick answer to a vexing problem. I've used it 9 months or so with no issues.

Cons: They do run fairly warm, but they will not burn you. I measured 118.2 degrees fahrenheit, or 47.2 centigrade under load. Not a fire hazard. As a point of comparison, My HP laptop keyboard runs 93 degrees F.

Other Thoughts: I was concerned about the heat issue so I researched it on the web. I recommend searching and reading all of the reviews you can find to learn about the limitations. The speed of this device will be apparently limited by the capacitance of your AC wiring in your house, and that is an obviously unpredictable variable. I see between 65Mbps to 150 Mbps and watch Netflix (streaming video) anywhere in the house now on the laptop (802.11n) through the wireless router connected through this device with no problems. My hard wired CPU at the cable modem and the Laptop through the HDX101 test at the same bandwith speeds, so I am confident there is no data throttling by the HDX101 setup.

Pros: You do get a connection via the wall outlets. If you have no other choice, I guess you could use this.

Cons: Actual speed is 4 to 6 Mbps for me. I have a brand new home in a brand new community. I read the help files on netgear.com and I understand their caveats that anything is possible with electrical line degradation. I gave this one egg because the box implies a speed of approximately 200 is attainable. See Other Thoughts for my actual performance.

Other Thoughts: Downstairs to upstairs: 4 to 6 Mbps.
Upstairs, adjacent rooms: 12 Mbps.
Both units connected back to back on the same plain extension cord: 40 Mbps.

These are all local file transfers from a Gbit network. And yes, these units get very hot - not good for the baby.

Pros: Great connection, fast, makes it easy to extend your network.

Cons: LEDs are kinda bright.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to get an internet connection in my basement for my PS3 and 360. The old wireless was so slow in the basement I couldn't download anygame updates but now I have a great connection and download large files in seconds. Pair this with the Ethernet switch and you get a great network combination

Pros: I had a big dead spot in the family room, and I used this kit to connect my Netgear N router to an Apple Airport Extreme in the family room, to eliminate the dead spot. In turn, I also have a PS3, Xbox 360, and a HD DVR connected to the Airport. It works perfectly, and I've had no connectivity problems or lagging whatsoever.

Cons: Tried to download some HD movies through my PS3, and the speeds I was seeing were horrible. However, I believe this is the ISP's problem. (see below)

Other Thoughts: I also downloaded a regular movie through iTunes, and I was seeing the same speeds as my computer upstairs, which is connected directly to the router with two CAT6 cables.

Pros: Able to Use Your House's inline Power Outlets as Network Ports

Cons: Units get somewhat hot, this can be a downside and possible FireHazard and may not be Approved In business Situations That Have Strict Fire codes.

Other Thoughts: I've used these in the Past and have had Horrible luck, not to mention Depending on the way the house is setup it's possible that if 2 outlets are not on the same Circut these units may not work depending on how the Main Breaker is Setup and or if there are multiple Breaker Junction Boxs.

Pros: It's pretty plug and play, fast speeds. I wouldn't worry too much about wiring issues with this new homeplug - I'm in a 175 year old house and I can watch HD video over these connectors. No phase coupler required.

Cons: Couldn't (and can't) configure them unless they are directly connected to the computer I'm running the config software on. I had to plug them both in to the computer, set up the options I wanted and then set them up in the house.

Other Thoughts: The documentation hasn't been updated to reflect new firmware - the doc makes it seem that if the blue light is anything other than solid your connection is not good; however the blue light is flashing constantly with network activity for me. As I said, this has not affected my ability to stream HD.

Pros: Plug and Play. Four HDXB101 units connected quickly and reliably in a residential setting. 2 Netgear XAV101 units were previously installed and functioning at same site and used to stream DVD quality video.

Cons: Very slow connection speeds across a modern 3000 square foot residence using same electrical box. Speeds never reliably exceeded 10MBPS - even in same room. Units quickly become disturbingly hot to touch. The XAV101 utility does not recognize HDXB101 units. or vice versa.
Netgear's technical support was not very helpful and the language barrier was a problem. They did say that the HDXB101 model has received heat and perfomance complaints. BTW, Netgear customer support has clearly been very outsourced.

Other Thoughts: The HDXB101 and XAV101 models are not comparable. XAV101 units provide consistently and significantly better performance at same location under similar conditions.

Pros: Biggest pro is ease of use. Plug 'em and go. Don't have to open your case or install drivers or anything. You can switch them back and forth between different computers just as if you were plugging straight into the router. It's beautiful.

Reliability is also good. I've used them in a variety of configurations all over my house (including from one end of the house to the other and on different floors) and never had a problem. They don't seem to care where I put them. (House is about 2,000 square feet, mostly built in 80s with an addition from a year or 2 ago). I've used them with computers and with an Xbox360. I sometimes have hiccups streaming HD content from Netflix to my Xbox, but I'm not sure if that's the adapters or my internet connection.

I have not tested bandwidth.

Cons: I have read a lot of bad reviews here, but I have had no problems. As I mentioned earlier, sometimes my HD netflix stream gets downgraded, but I have no way of knowing if that's the Netgear Powerline adapters or the internet connection to my home, and it's only happened a couple of times.

They do tend to run hot, but as for people burning themselves - mine never get *that* hot. Just warm to the touch.

The bright LEDs also annoy me. I had one in my bedroom for a while and I had to duct-tape some paper over the lights so that I could sleep at night.

Other Thoughts: So far I've only used the 2. I'm about to buy a third one to expand the network, and I'll see how that goes.

Pros: Eliminated the need of running cables. Made little improvement to my previous setup with two access point bridge together.

Cons: It says up 200Mbps when the port is only 10/100. They meant 200Mbps on full duplex connection.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice to be able to manage and see actual speeds.

Pros: NEWEGG is the best!
Beats Wireless - until it fails

Cons: BEWARE Netgear support. Warranty says 1 year - guess again. If you want to RMA or get service do it before your 90 day support expires. They will charge you for support past 90 days - even if its under warranty. Wow, is that legal?
I have installed 3 pairs in homes - 2 of which have now gone bad in a little over a year.

Other Thoughts: My units (bought the pair) got REALLY hot and eventually stopped talking to each other. I had to RMA the Two units to Netgear but after WEEKS of waiting I got only ONE back. Netgear now refuses to send me a second claiming I only sent them one! They say the RMA was created for one. I now have one totally useless HDX101 and I am sure not buying another.
