Tech Level: somewhat high

Rating + 3 Fast but limited

Pros: WLAN to LAN transfers are very fast.
Build quality is good.
Feature packed.
Setup is very intuitive.

Cons: 5Ghz range is not very impressive. In areas where my $25 Linksys G router is pumping 5/5 signal quality, this is only providing 3/5 signal quality.

Seems to require a reboot every two weeks or so.

Other Thoughts: I can't consider this a con since I knew then when I made the purchase: 10/100 built-in switch. :(

Rating + 2 Needs daily supervision

Pros: Dual channels, multi-band, fairly feature rich config options

Cons: Flakey inbound port mappings stop working daily, requires frequent reboots, clients constantly having to re-enter wireless passwords, not DD-WRT capable, uses Atheros chipset

Other Thoughts: We set this up in an office that has about 6 people using it. We all remote desktop in from home, so inbound port mapping is a big deal to us. Outbound connections seemed fairly reliable, but we were constantly calling in from home asking someone in the office to power cycle the thing so we could connect in from home. After a reboot, we would be good for 12-24 hours, and then it would stop working again. Also, all we had a wireless network with a WPA password and many clients (especially iPhones) would have to re-enter the wireless password several times a day. The router is now boxed up and in the corner gathering dust.

Rating + 4 solid, but

Pros: Absolutely no signal drop, signal strength is consistent, quality of signal is great.

Cons: Now for what they don't tell you. Maximum bandwidth on the 2.4GHz channel is 130MBs. Max on the 5GHz is 270MBs. So, unless you own the one and only 5GHz wireless PCI adapter available right now (made also by this company) you are strictly limited to wireless-G MIMO speeds for your fancy new wireless-N setup. Not cool at all.

Other Thoughts: After I received the router (for X-Mas, if anyone cares) the 2.4GHz(130MBs) vs 5GHz (270MBs) specs were listed online at the manufacturer's product link. These specifications have since been removed. I guess they realized that they are actually selling one of the slowest wireless-N routers on the market, and people were not buying the product once they read the specs. Now, to be fair, I have had great performance from the device but, in truth, had I known that it was really a wireless-G SpeedBoost in disguise I would not have put it on my Christmas list. I have to say that, for the first time in 10 years, I am disappointed with a Linksys product. I trusted the company instead of doing my research-my bad, I guess.

Rating + 5 What I've come to expect

Pros: Easy setup slim design.

Cons: By default it wants you to use the CD for setup but you can manually override it and do it all in the browser. The power cord was 1' shorter than older style wireless router.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace an old one that just stopped routing. This one has a stronger transmitter which induced some noise in my PC's Sub-woofer when placed directly on top of it. I didn't need two channels (each one with it's own SSID and Key) but it'll be nice to dedicate one of them for my TiVos.

Rating + 4 Nice!

Pros: Fast, Fast, and did I mention Fast. I replace my WRT54G with the 400N and what a difference!

Cons: I did have some trouble conecting to the router with one of my computers but, eventually I figured it out. On my own... with no calls to linksys...., or any other helpdesk for answers or help. I mention this because before buying this I read the reviews of some of the previous buyers and all of the problems that they had and yet marked on their tech knowledge that they had high understanding. Nonsense, I spent 4 hours setting up 5 computers and the most difficult part was my oldest computer (and I mean old) running windows xp pro would not connect to the internet and I couldn't figure out why. It wasn't until I took the set up disk for the router and installed it on the problem computer that the problem fix itself.

Other Thoughts: I only gave this product 4 eggs because of the problems I had with the setup but I can't be sure if it was the router or my computer that being said I did get it fixed and I am just a self taught geek. I would refer this product to anyone. Oh and by the way....its fast!!!:p

Pros: Dual band, dual radio. Great as a cheap AP so far. So/so as a router

Cons: No soft reboot option in the UI. Unit needs rebooting sometimes for the config changes to work properly. Other than that, seems fine.

Rating + 4 Original DOA, Replacement Great

Pros: Takes about 5 mins to set up, the installation process is very simple and requires no additional tweaking. In the end, the wireless speed is as fast as the wired speed would be. It works great in an apartment.

Cons: Original was dead on arrival.

Other Thoughts: The first one I received was defective. This took up 3 hours of my time & 9 days of waiting, when you factor in trouble shooting on my own, chatting and speaking with Linksys support, filling out an RMA, chatting with newegg to get a pre-paid shipping label, and then taking the item to UPS. For a router over $100, I expected an item that wasn't defective. On the bright side, Linksys support (although outsourced) was very easy going and polite and newegg processed the return and replacement in under 10 days. I just wish the router had worked the first time.

Rating + 1 Don't do it!

Pros: Lots of promised features.

Cons: All the promises are broken. The router would freeze up every few hours requiring a reboot. This is pretty much a deal breaker. The name on the box "Ultra Range Plus" would lead you to believe the range is better than most. Not the case here. My router as about 15 feet from devices in my living room. They indicated signal strength as low as 15%. There were routers in my neighborhood that are blocks away that had better signal strength. I went to the Linksys forum and saw other were having this problem. Taking this item back to the store.

Other Thoughts: It's not very reassuring that there are so many products just like this on the market. They are released too early and not tested enough.

Rating + 4 WRT400N

Pros: Easy to install, works with all computers (Vista, XP, MAC and both G and N networks). Longer range than my last linksys N router even reaches the 3rd floor of my big house. It is good enough for fast internet surfing anywhere in the house and muliti-media or large file downloading depending on distance from router is somewhat fast to average could be faster on downloads.
This router is also small and compact.

Cons: While regular web browsing is fast the download speeds of large files and videos could be faster while it is not slow and gets average to somewhat fast speeds (Usually 1MB per second at tops for downloads on uTorrent) which is again nothing incredible now.

Other Thoughts: This is the same design as my old Linksys WRTN160 but so far does not seem to over heat like the other one did, could be because the 160 was 2 years old and this is brand new, we shall see. Also this router is dual band simultaneously which makes it faster and is N plus.

Rating + 5 You Want This

Pros: I Had a WRT54G from Linksys and it worked ok for a few years then every week like clock work it would forget my internet connection existed. so i got fed up and got this, its the exact same model that F.I.R.S.T Robotics uses to control their robots. so i figured since i worked with them there i'd get one. and man it is amazing my connection speed has noticeably increased and my 2 xbox's now both have open NATS (I could only get one at a time with old one).

i used the old WRT54G as a wireless bridge for one of my wired xbox's (Loaded 3rd party firmware i think its called tomato not sure though)

5 Eggs Very Good Product.

Cons: Not many.

if price is a concern this might not be for you. but be warned if you pay less you might get less.

Pros: I got this router to replace my two netgear homeplug powerline kits "Item#:N82E16833122328" I've had for a couple years now. I've had many wired routers over the years but this is my FIRST wireless router and I must say I am impressed. I held of on wireless out of fear of connection issues and reliability. My connection is very stable and I'm getting faster speeds then I did with my ethernet homeplug powerline adapters. The craftsmanship is top notch

Cons: I cant think of any. Like I said wireless is the way to go, throw out all your eithernet cables

Other Thoughts: comes with a setup CD, but you dont need it if you know what your doing. Its very easy to set up, make sure u secure your networks

Rating + 5 Excellent Router

Pros: This router has worked great since day one. I primarily run a wired network, but wanted to add wireless 802.11n capability. I upgraded from a Linksys BEFSR41 4-port wired router that has worked well for 6+ years to the Linksys WRT400N wireless router and have been very pleased. Wired performance is great, the web-based configuration is easy to use, and wireless connections have worked fine on the two laptops I tried (using WPA2 Personal security in mode WPA-TKIP)

Cons: Not a gigabit router. Logging could be more detailed.

Other Thoughts: If you have any experience with routers, skip the Setup CD. Just unplug the old router and plugin the new one, then open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.1/ to configure the router (blank username, password "admin"). Be sure to go to Wireless->Wireless Security to set the security settings.

Rating + 3 So disappointed..

Pros: Dual Band wireless - simultaneously. Web interface is easy enough for those who have some familiarity.. Has the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (Push button link up) for those who aren't familiar with this type of stuff.

Cons: Over-hyped.. 2.4GHz is good and almost as fast as 5GHz; not saying much for the 5GHz (40-50Mbps max. @ close range, 20-25Mbps @ 60ft. and through one wall). I was really expecting something better for 5GHz "N"..

Other Thoughts: Setup in a snap - but messed around with it for hours (and the WET610N AP) because I was just SURE I could get more throughput out of it. Tested the beJesus out of it; just sure there was some obscure setting I was missing that would kick it into overdrive. Nope.. Manual setup, WPS setup(push button automated link), still nothing better.. Searched the net and found "expert" opinions that had findings similiar to mine.. Bottom line, it's okay, but just okay.... Maybe future firmware updates might be the catalyst to kick in the afterburners.. Nothing available now.. So there you have it..

Rating + 1 Not your father's Linksys

Pros: It looks great. Wireless seemed to have nice coverage area on the LAN side, which did work, for what that's worth when no WAN is available.

Cons: CD and software took forever to install and configure (partially due to limited memory on my XP sp3 box - 1GB), but still... 30 minutes? No thanks. Futhermore, there is no reason to require anyone who can read the QuickStart to install the software. And, how about letting the return customer know that the http://192.168.1.1 is still there?! Worse still, the Internet port never picked up an IP address. A pointless call to Linksys to confirm my findings kept an out-sourced script reader paid for the day, and a follow-up call to my ISP had a "level 2" local tech tell me to buy the in-house brand instead... *sigh*

Other Thoughts: Is the budget contract manufacter route really so important to your gross margin that you are willing to sacrifice the reputation that gave you the reputation as a market leader in the first place? Sad state of affairs to see priorities so out of whack.

Rating + 5 Great Product 5 EGGS!!!!!

Pros: Very easy and quick to setup. There are no confusing details in the settings that you have to make, just hook it up, run the setup, and you are good to go. Internet connection has gotten better and range is better. I am very pleased with this product, I am glad I saved a couple bucks to buy this instead of the WRT610.

Cons: There are really non. This really isnt a con, but it did take about 5 min. to be able to play xbox live, still worked fine.

Other Thoughts: I recommend this product to anyone looking to upgrade their router from a dysfunctional one.

Rating + 4 Great when it works

Pros: Very good when it works. My download speeds increased by about 5mbps

Cons: Sometimes the connection starts to die out and you have to turn the router off and back on to make it work again. I don't know if this is a problem with all of them or just the one i received.

Other Thoughts: Easy to set up. Overall not a bad router. I just wish I could fix the signal coming out of mine :\

Rating + 5 Best Router I've Ever Owned

Pros: Simultaneous dual band 802.11n is great if you have cordless phones in your house that may interfere w/ 2.4Ghz broadcasts (this feature makes it a good alternative to AEBS). This router is very fast... my download and upload speed have doubled when at range.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I wish this supported dd-wrt.

Rating + 4 WRT400N

Pros: Dual Band. Easy setup. No drop offs. Used for wired and wireless, both home networking and internet. One of the ports has CLP315 Samsung printer attached to. All home PC's running on XP and Vista have no problem networking and printing as well as accessing the Internet.
Most everybody's home networks are well under 100mbs including the IP overhead. By the time 1000mbs is implemented there will be new protocols and the one would need to buy a new equipment anyway.

Cons: Everage. No AAAAHHH, unless you used a modem and a dial up before. And now you are on a broadband and this router. Do not expect miracles compared to good G protocol routers.

Other Thoughts: The technology is not where you can run full 1080p through and swap huge files and have unlimited download at the same time.
The other routers CAN'T do it ether. Do not let marketing fool you.
Let us give engeniers another 10 years. But for now it does a normal job.

Rating + 5 Great so far

Pros: Reliable, fast, solved reception issues throughout certain parts of my house, and it solved random drop-outs that I saw with my old WRT54GL when streaming music/video in my home.

Cons: None yet. This is still a draft N router - would have liked to have waited for full 802.11n support, but my old router wasn't up to the task any longer due to higher bandwidth needs.
