Reviewer Product Review

Tech Level: somewhat high

Rating + 5

Pros: Great little device. I hooked up two Vista laptops via this printserver to a HP 3330 MFP and things worked beautifully. Unlike some of the other reviews, I did use the install CD. Set a static internal IP as recommended, loaded driver (I had only HP 3300 PCL5 driver, but seems to work fine), and I was up and running in about 5 min/laptop. So far I'm very happy. I'm not sure that I still have scanner ability from the printserver, but that's ok.

Cons: None so far.

Rating + 5 Works fine for me

Pros: Seemed to work fine once I got it set up. Printed test pages from Windows 7, Windows XP, and Linux (Ubuntu 9.10). Gets the job done.

Cons: It's hard to set up. It defaults to 192.168.1.174, which may or may not be on your network. If you just want to set up IPP and don't have a Windows box / Mac, just point your configuration over there and see if you can set it up via something like telnet (that port is open; I didn't try it yet or anything).

Other Thoughts: In Ubuntu, I just did a printer scan on 192.168.0.2 in the printer administration. It recognized the LPD PASSTHRU method and it seems to work perfectly fine.

Rating + 4 It's pretty good; however,

Pros: After I configured it, it works flawlessly.
The reason I bought this was I bought the Linksys WRT610Nv2 and installed dd-wrt on it. It happened the router and dd-wrt fw do not support a printer, so basically I needed a print server for my other PCs in my network.

Make sure before you buy this print server, don't forget to check the printers compatibility list.
http://iogear.com/files/pdf/GPSU21_Printer_Compatiblity_List_4-20-09.pdf

For the PC that is connected to the router or a switch:
i. Download and install the printer's driver
ii. Go to Control Panel and click Devices and Printers
iii. Click Add a printer
iv. Choose Add a local printer and Create a new port.
v. On the drop down menu choose TCP/IP
vi. Type in the printer server's static IP and use the generic network card and brand and model of the printer.

It is not going to fit here so I am going to put the other 3 guides in Cons and Other thoughts. Hope this will help you.

Cons: It is somewhat hard to configure at first. After I configured the webgui and tried to login, it would not let me to login.
The hard reset button did not work either. The driver's device reset did not work as well. Therefore, I am pretty much stuck using the driver. I like using the webgui.
_____________________________________
This part is not a con. This is a another guide.
Another alternative for PC that is hardwired to the router.
i. Download and install the printer's driver
ii. Go to Control Panel and click Devices and Printers
iii. Click Add a printer
iii. Click Add a network printer and choose the The printer I that I want . . .
iv. (You can also map it, look at the XP guide below) Click Add a printer using TCP/IP
v. Type in the static IP of the print server and choose the brand and model or series of the printer.

Other Thoughts: Make the IP of the print server static.
Here what I did to my wireless PC and laptops.
XP:
i. Download and install the printer's driver.
ii.Go to Control Panel and click Printer and Faxes
iii. Click Add a printer
iv. Choose A network printer then click next
v. Choose Connect to this printer. Map the printer by typing the ip of the print server and the name of the printer. Make sure you add \\ip of the printer server\name
e.g. \\192.168.1.1\HP printer
vi. Make sure you choose the brand and model of your printer.

Windows 7 and Vista:
i. Download and install the basic driver of the printer.
ii. Go to Control Panel and click Devices and Printers
iii. Click Add a printer
iv. Choose Add a network and choose The printer that I. . .
v. You can map it like the XP guide above or choose Add a printer using TCP/IP
vi. Type the ip add of the print server and use the Generic network card and brand and series or model of the printer.

That should do it.

I will update this if

Rating + 1 Does not really work with Mac OS 10.6

Pros: Perfect to print from MS Windows

Cons: No user guide available. Installation guide extremely basic. Hotline saturated. Difficult to configure for Mac OS 10.6, and when configured it is extremely slow.

Other Thoughts: After groping around the print server parameters, I found a configuration where printing from my Macbook is possible. But it takes 2 minutes for the printer to start printing. Apart from that, works great from a Windows computer.

Rating + 5 Works Great

Pros: Easy setup on 3 Vista and one XP PC. Took me about 30 minutes once I opened box. Set static IP on router, install software, deleted any local printers, add printer found HP Photosmart 8150. Tested and worked. One PC is wireless, but since on network, no big deal to setup.

Cons: Like one other review I read, would be nice if all cables were on one side.

Other Thoughts: Small, so it does take up any room. I've used several other IOGEAR products for a few years now. They all do what they say and still working fine.
Got here in 3 days.. well packed....Thanks Newegg-

Rating + 5 This appears to work well.

Pros: I bought this for my mom, she was having problems with some cheap wifi printer of another popular brand that was just not reliable. I had an old Samsung laser printer that I wasnt using anymore. I hooked this into the wifi router, its worked perfectly ever since.

Cons: I dont know. It has been extremely easy to use. If you have basic knowledge of TCPIP it is simple. It has a built in web server to configure it. It's almost brainless.

Other Thoughts: If you set this up on OSX, if I recall correctly, you need to disable bidirectional communication for certain laser printers. It has been trouble-free once set up.

Rating + 4 Limited Device Support

Pros: Works great as an internet based network printer. Works as well as if the printer was connected directly to the PC. Make a printer available to anyone on your home network and possible over the internet if setup properly.

Cons: Installation software failed several times when trying to setup the printer. Found that very few printers were "supported." Suggest visiting the Print servers website before purchasing.

Other Thoughts: Like I said it works great as a network print sever but I would suggest just skipping the included software and read the last few pages of the instructions on how to set it up as a network print server, via its IP address. (http://nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn:631/lp1) I would also recommend if you use a router or switch with DHCP, to set to IP address for the print server statically. This will make it so you won't have to re-setup the printer on your computers if the server or switch losses power. You'll have to see your individual switch/router instructions on how to set a Static IP address.

Rating + 5 Excellent product

Pros: Worked fine, out of the box, connected via ethernet to one wired and one wireless computer.
Easy to set up (the wizard worked perfectly), and it required only a minute to find the driver for each PC (using an older Samsung ML-1740 b/w printer).
I did have to use the wired computer to set it up; I had tried my wireless, and it couldn't find the server.
Before I ordered, I wrote to Iogear to ask whether this product would work with my Vista-32 OS; the next day they wrote back to say it would. Great customer service (but why didn't the product description on Newegg say so? -- the manual did.
BTW, contrary to other opinions, the manual was perfectly adequate.
A grand slam product.

Cons: None.

Rating + 4 Great Print Server

Pros: Easy to setup, small, included manual. Included software didn't work for me (didn't find a printer), but the device can be configured using the web interface.
Small, and can be hidden behind the printer, and yet capable of doing its job.

Cons: The included software didn't detect the printer.
Loses a star because the included software didn't work for me; had to use the web interface to configure it.

Other Thoughts: After a few attempts to detect the print server by using the software and swapping out patch cables, I read here in Newegg Reviews that the printer could be configured using the web interface. This was another reason for my purchase, because I have more control by using the web interface than using the supplied CD.
Anyways, the CD did not detect the printer after a few attempts, so I decided to write down its MAC address and find it on my DHCP server. After getting its dynamically-assigned IP address from my server, I was able to log on to it by typing the IP on my web browser.
The interface is simple and clear. Give the device a name, give the printer a name, a static ip address (optional but recommended), and that's pretty much it.
Set it up on three XP computers using the Add Local Printer menu, TCP/IP, type in its IP, install driver, and done!
Since installation, we tested on XP, Mac OS X 10.6.2, and even a DOS-based program (using lpt3).
Great little item, good price! TY Newe

Pros: Wanted my Hp PSC1311 printer to connect straight to my router so all the pc's in the house can print to it. It did just that. My printer isnt even on the compatibility list, it still works!

Cons: As always, could've been cheaper, free would be awesome.

Rating + 2 It works, BUT NOT a crossplatform solution!

Pros: Nice small and compact print server...Does what it's supposed to. BUT it wasn't the answer to my problem. I have two Ubuntu desktop machines (one is 64bit); one older XP Pro machine and a VISTA 64bit laptop. I was looking to for a way to network all them for my one printer/scanner. It was either this or make my XP machine "the print server" and have it run all the time just for that reason. The Ubuntu machines worked fine out of the box. VISTA had some problems.

Cons: I had a HUGE configuration problems with VISTA with this thing, still never got to quite work correctly. Even worse when connected wirelessly, IOgear software would never recognize wireless connection to printer on the Vista machine (scratches head), but would see it 'wired'...More likely the Vista 'IP scaling map' than this servers fault, but still I end up with the same result. Ironically, Ubuntu gave me no issues connecting, but afterward the windows machines couldn't connect....It was an either or situation. It would either see CUPS (linux) or LDP (windows) but not both on the same network.

Other Thoughts: The lesson is it WILL work fine for either a Windows --OR-- a Linux/unix network. NOT a good cross platform solution..maybe someone with better TCP/IP networking skills could make it work...but, everything I tried just produced another issue.

Rating + 4 Excellent value, works great, small

Pros: Small, easy to set-up, works as standard generic TCPIP
port (raw 9100). You can set it up manually using
a web browser going to the DHCP assigned IP address
and clicking on configure. Great product for the price, comes with a network cable. You can even see it recognize the attached USB printer by name from a web browser.

Cons: doesn't tell you you can set it up manually without using the CD. The tiny manual shows screen shots of the software CD which is extremely small to read.
would give it 5 stars if they even mentioned you don't need to load the cd if you know what you are doing.

Other Thoughts: I guessed on the next assigned DHCP address it got, went to it with a browser and was able to setup a static
IP address on it and print from the PC by adding a standard TCPIP port. All without loading any software.

Took me 30 min to install, haven't found a printer it hasn't worked with.

Rating + 1 Appalling

Pros: Pretty Packaging.

Cons: Low compatibility and questionable with multifunction printer capabilities.

Other Thoughts: Even though documentation says printer-only function should work in the multifunction printers, it does not. My printer is supposedly compatible, but then it is not. Faq 297 is unhelpful, and upon calling tech support, it was the rudest to date. Should've went with my instinct and NOT bought this.
Manufacturer Response:Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and sorry to hear that the print server didn't work with your MFP. This product does work with the printer function of MFP. However not all MFPs are supported and we constantly update our firmware to ensure the maximum compatibility. Please check the list and see if your MFP is supported.

Rating + 1 Unreliable product

Pros: None, because it kept dying before I could get it to function properly

Cons: Just like most of the other comments, this product refuses to work most of the time. Standard install onto an XP machine with it connected to a standard router, this worthless junk "can't find any print servers" 9 out of 10 times. Oh and when it finally does find it, guess what? You go through the installation about to finish and it hits you with "can't find the print server". Should've read these reviews before I bought the darn thing.

Other Thoughts: Pay a little more, get something that actually works.

Rating + 3 Had difficulty getting to work

Pros: Small and tidy device that when working, is a huge timesaver, easy to setup.

Cons: I have a HP Laserjet P1006 printer and a laptop running Windows Vista, and a desktop running Windows 7 RC and had the same problem with both. I was able to manually configure the printer as a network printer connected to a TCP/IP device. I manually inputted the IP address that was assigned to the print server via DHCP and both Vista and Win7 detected it without problem. I was able to do a test page from both comptuers without a problem. However, the next day when I wanted to use the printer, it would not respond. I power cycled both the printer and the print server to no avail. I deleted my driver, and readded everything and it worked. Somehow, there must be a problem when either the printer or the print server goes into power saving mode where it wont work anymore.

Other Thoughts: Perhaps this thing has poor compability with Vista or Win7, or maybe I just have a defective unit. I know it works because I can print test pages, but if I let everything power down, the next time I want to use it, it wont work. I havent spent much more time researching this as maybe there are some power saving features I could tweak, but I haven't had the time to spend doing that. I'll still give this product 3 stars because after intiially setting it up, I was pretty impressed with how easily it setup and had it continued to work, I would have been extremely pleased with it. My problems may still be a problem with my settings, but I believe I have a higher level of knowledge than the "average" user, and if I am having trouble, I am sure others will too.

Pros: This Print server is amazing, I have it connected to a Samsung CLP-500 color laser and it is fast, This thing blows my other 3-Port Trendnet print server out of the water, It starts printing just as fast as if it was connected via USB. Easy Setup too, as a Network Share or Local TCP/IP port.

Cons: IOGear doesn't have any Parallel models for my legacy printers (why I tried the TrendNet one)

Other Thoughts: I would be amazing if they came out with a Parallel Version, or a Power-Over-Ethernet Version

Rating + 4 Worked on Konica Minolta 2400W

Pros: Works as expected. Small, easy to install. Support was quick to respond via-email.

Cons: Software included was not really ready for Vista 64 and error'ed during the install. The install post the unknown error, was ok. Tried to get it to work with a Konica Minolta 2400W color laser. It would not work per IOGear instructions. Email support. They had me redo what was already done and verify a few things. Still no go. I then unchecked duplex printing and it worked. Printer is fine, just cannot use the duplex mode. Sharing off 4 PCs. 2 Vista 64 Home Prem, 1 32 Vista Ultimate and 1 XP SP3 32 bit.

Rating + 5 It Works- It works Well

Pros: It works and it works well, haven't been able to test it thoroughly but so far its printed a couple documuments with no problems. It small, out of the way and does the job.

Cons: Getting it set up for vista can be kinda tricky. I say kinda cause it really isn't that hard once you figure out how to do it. There are no directions in the manual on how to set up for vista. there is no support page for this thing on the manufacturers website either.

Other Thoughts: To set up for vista, First find the ip address of the thing. You can do that by using the utility that came with the disk and running the wizard to set up the ip. Once you know the ip go into control panel/printer and set up a new network printer. After that it's pretty much self explanatory.
After you find the ip i would recommend just using the web based setup page to change any setting on the server; the wizard on the disk is pretty much useless.

Rating + 1 Awful Product

Pros: Works the very first time you set it up and only the first time.

Cons: I bought 2 of these and set them up in a network for a client with no issues at all. As soon as you restart the printer, it will never work with that printer again. I've tried this on an HP Laserjet 1020, 1015, and 1018 with no luck. This thing works perfect the first time, but like I said, if you restart it or the printer it will never work again with that printer. I've factory reset the devices using the web browser and the button on the box. I've spent so much time trying to figure out why it won't work ever again with the printer. I've tried with the CD and installing it manually in windows using the tips from other reviewers. No luck. Printers work great without the box and via USB though.

Other Thoughts: I understand these printers we bought are not on the list for it to work, but I don't understand how it will work just fine and very well until you restart your printer or the print server itself. It seems like it remembers some ID of the printer and just will never send another print job to it again. The web manager and software say it went to the printer just fine, but nothing happens.
You'd think a simple black and white laser that works with this until power lose would be a simple thing. I've used a cheaper print server and had better results. I with they still made that one because I'd buy it again in a second. Now I'm looked down on from my client, because they trusted me and now I'm wasting their time trying to make this work. I will never buy IOGear again.
Manufacturer Response:Dear Sir,

We apologize for the printer issue that you encountered, seems like your printers might be incompatible with the print server.

IOGEAR does offer a 3-year warranty on this item, so if you call the IOGEAR support line, they will instruct you to return and swap for another print server for you.

Thanks for buying IOGEAR.

Pros: I was a little worried it wouldnt work. It installed easily and function fine. The printer; prints just as fast with this as it did with it hardwire connections.

Other Thoughts: If the printer was already working on your pc before it's a lot easier but if you can't get it working heres what you do: install the drivers for your printer on your pc first (unless windows already has a driver for it), then go to add printer, add network printer, and then type http://192.168.1.123/lp1 (your ip address will most likely be different) and then pick the type/model of your printer and you should be good to go. You may want to use the included software to give your printer a static ip to make things easier. hope this helps.

Rating + 5 Great Little Print Server

Pros: This tiny print server is amazing. Plugged it in, installed the software, set it's IP, and BAM, I can print to it. I can print to it from Windows and Linux.

Cons: USB port on front, Ethernet and power in back. Wish all 3 were on back.

Rating + 4 Almost-Perfect IPP Printing Solution

Pros: A very small very functional IPP print server. Once set up, this product will take care of all your printing needs for the whole household.

Cons: Initial configuration from a Linux machine is seriously annoying. I would have given this 5 stars if there was a simpler way to configure this without using the supplied not-Linux software.

Pros: Works with my Canon PIXMA iP8500. Was able to set up TCP/IP printing with every computer in my household.

Cons: No install instructions for Vista. The printer status no longer shows what the ink levels are. Couldn't get this to show up in AppleTalk on the household Mac running OS X 10.4.

Other Thoughts: Followed the install instructions left by a previous reviewer. I did 2 things differently: (1) When you add the IP Address, in the field under it for port name, enter lp1 (2) Under Device Type, instead of choosing custom, I chose Standard, and then from the drop down list "Network Print Server (1 Port - USB)".

Have this connected to a D-Link DAP-1555 bridge which is bridging to a Netgear WNDR3300 router.

Rating + 5 Great simple device

Pros: No install needed for my Canon Pixma MP830. Plugged it in, browsed to the IP address, made it static, hooked up the printer and on the next refresh it showed the printer model, status, etc. Didn't even install the drivers on the PCs. I just installed a Standard TCP/IP port on all the machines, used the Canon driver and it works like a champ. The ink monitoring junk doesn't work, nor does the scanning but I wasn't expecting it to since it's just a print server. If I need either, I'm not that lazy where I can't plug it in to a computer for 2 minutes.

Cons: Nada.

Other Thoughts: A pipe dream would to have the device be bus powered or PoE powered, but meh.

Rating + 5 Works great

Pros: Works great.
Fast printing to my Epson CX4600.
Did not need to use the CD to setup the print server!!

Simply updated the printer properties to use TCP/IP LPR for the systems which used to shared the printer.

The setup for the printer can be accessed via http://1p_printserv2aeae4/

Cons: Manual is not great. Looks good but not complete.

Other Thoughts: I did not want to install the software on all the machines I have here to access the printer.
If you read the reviews here on Newegg one user wrote just what I needed to know:

== QUOTE ==
If nothing else seems to work, ditch the setup CD and do this:
1) Make sure that your printer is installed directly connected to your computer first.
2) Disconnect the computer from your computer and hook the printer up to the print server,
and the print server to your network. Make sure that you can ping the print server.
3) Printers and Faxes > right click your printer, click properties > Ports > Add Port...
> highlight Standard TCP/IP Port > click New Port... >
Next > enter the print server's IP address >
Next > select Custom > Settings > select LRP > enter a Queue name > OK >
Next > Finish > Close > Apply > Close
4) Try a test page. If it's not working, disable bi-directional support and try again.
== END QUOTE ==

Worked like a charm.

Rating + 5 New Egg and IOGEAR deliever

Pros: First off reading some other peoples post you really should check the compatibility list. But...if you know what drivers are backwards compatible with your printer you are in the good. This is the route I took and both my XP desktop (HP photosmart 7960) and Vista laptop are using hp deskjet 990c drivers. No complications at all. Five eggs all around.

Cons: Plug and play but that would be too easy.

Other Thoughts: Once again new egg has me!! I will always turn to them for my tech needs.

Pros: Small. Sometimes it works.

Cons: Often doesn't work. Some PCs refuse to recognize the device.

Other Thoughts: About half the time, this will only print a small part of the page then stall.
Manufacturer Response:Sorry to hear the problem you had with the GPSU21 USB Print Server. What you experienced was a little unusual, but IOEGAR should take care of you because this product comes with a full 3 year warranty.

You can call IOGEAR at 1 (866) 946-4327, or email them at support@iogear.com, you can also do live chat with IOGEAR support. We will appreciate if you can share with us the problems you encountered and we will do our best to resolve the issue for you.

Thanks.

Pros: Don't make the mistake we did, just buying it and thinking all will be dandy. We were not able to get this thing to work on our Dell 810, which is a low end multi-use. I think Newegg should have pointed this out as well.

Cons: It doesn't work with multi-functions

Other Thoughts: Probably works just fine on a supported printer, but seriously, at this point in technology this thing should work with multi-function.

Pros: It works fine with Windows and Linux (to an HP Deskjet printer). You can telnet into it for status and configuration.

Cons: Does not support printers that use bi-directional drivers (like multi-function printers -- I had to contact tech support to find out why it would not work with my LexMark x8350)

Other Thoughts: IOGear's tech support help me resolve the issue with the multi-function printer/bi-directional drivers quickly via web chat.

Pros: Purchased one of these to connect to an HP Laserjet 1012. The software installed easily.

Cons: It failed on the second day and never recovered. The printer would show as offline until both the PS and the printer were power cycled. After talking to support it started working, again for a day and again stopped.

Other Thoughts: You're better off using a shared printer on a Windows peer network.
If you must use a networked printer server, look at another product. This one is inexpensive and it shows.

Pros: Tiny, works well with my Samsung laser printer, setup was like 3 minutes, supports Windows and Mac, price.

Cons: Tiny, cables on one side would be better - difficult to place. The ugliest web interface I have ever seen in any consumer networking product. The Setup Wizard stalls at launch, but you can guess the IP address if you know what IPs your router/server hands out.

Other Thoughts: Overall I'm very happy with this print server. The cons are minimal.

Rating + 5 Perfect with Vista across a wireless bridge...

Pros: These devices worked perfect and were printing in less than two minutes out of the box.

I have a Linksys WRT54GL also purchased from NewEgg. This is the linux version router that accepts third party firmware.

The linksys was flashed with DD-WRT and configured as a bridge/server. The two IOGEAR units were plugged into the linksys, and two Okidata 320 turbo 9 pin impact printers were plugged into the IOGEARS....

After popping in the CD the utility scanned the network and found both servers in less then 30 seconds.

Keep in mind that the print servers are across a wireless bridge using a DLINK N 655 and the Linksys running DD-WRT.

I chose to assign static IP's to the units and once again the units took the setting across the wireless connection perfectly.

With this set up I have a closet/store room in the office that is fully connected to the main network wirelessly with our general ledger and payroll check printer...and a rats nest of wires was not required.

Per

Cons: None whatsoever....

Other Thoughts: Hopefully IOGEAR has a bi-direction
TWAIN compliant server so our rack fed scanner can join the party. I also intend to try out our brother label printer as well.

This particular setup cost a fraction of the okidata network cards available for these printers at a cost of 225 dollars each.

Rating + 3 Good and Bad

Pros: Bought 2. One for an Old HP and one for a new Dell Photo series inkjet. Worked seamlessly with the old HP 930c inkjet. Set up went according to instructions and was up and running in about 10 minutes.

Cons: Does NOT work at all with Dell printers. After spending about an hour on the phone with tec support (who knew less than I did and was a completely usless experience) it was determined that this unit will not work with a Dell 924 photo printer.

Other Thoughts: Bottom Line: Buyer Beware. This does NOT work with ALL Printers. Have trouble and you are in for a very frustrating experience from their tec support. Check the IOGear Web site for a list of compatible printers before purchase. It will save you a load of heart ack.

Cons: Could only use the set-up wizard to intall and the communication is one way.

Other Thoughts: The feedback that the printer normaly gives you, ie; out of paper, ink status, etc..., does not happen. Be prepared for it. Again, I was expecting it because of all your feedback.

Pros: Works great and was easy to install and set up...and it's cheap.

Cons: I had bought this to network a multifunction printer but this only works on single function printers.

Other Thoughts: NOT FOR MULTI-FUNCTION PRINTERS!

Rating + 5 Works well in Vista

Pros: Makes a printer network capable. Supports a wide range of protocols. Supports a wide range of printers. Fast hookup. Easy setup.

Cons: Bi-directional communication is not supported. As such you cannot get ink status information. This might be normal for most print server units however. The CD did not work for me on Vista.

Other Thoughts: I got this to make my Canon iP4300 Photo Printer network capable. I also got it since the website said it was Vista compatible. Unfortunately I wasn't able to use the CD. Then I figured out that I didn't need to once it had gotten past the actual device setup. It got stuck at selecting the printer that was connected and as such it never finished but it did its job and set an ip on the device. After that I just cancelled out and set a network printer on Vista and selected the correct driver. It will work regardless if the port protocol is set to RAW or LPR (LPD on mac). If you do LPR/LPD then set the queue to lp1. Also I found that in addition to the web-based interface it also supports a telnet interface which is an undocumented feature. All of the same functions are available via telnet that is available via the web interface.

Pros: I've worked with PC's and networks for over 15 years. I was skeptical about a device like this actually working correctly. But, I recently purchased a canon MP500 series printer from newegg, and the thing is just too big to fit on a desk, so I needed a networking solution for it. To my surpise, this thing works perfectly. I have it installed alongside 5 windows XP PCs on a wireless network, and have it setup on each PC. Its working perfectly on each PC.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Driver install took me about 2-3 minutes per PC. I initially ran into a problem setting up the printer on each PC, because I wasn't following the instructions in the booklet exactly. It just seemed odd to setup a network printer on each PC on the LPT1 port. But, I did as the manual stated and it changed the printer settings in the next step. It still shows up as a printer on LPT1 on each PC...but online.

Rating + 5 Great biscuit sized server

Pros: This neat little biscuit sized Server is a great solution for multiple PCs networked at home. We are using it on both Windows and Linux PCs. Setup on Linux was a piece of cake and worked straight away. Setup on Windows was also easy and only complicated by the Firewall software. After some on line searching found that the Spooler Subsystem requires server access in the trusted network. You will most likely need the software loaded on Windows (we did) to allow the Print Server to be discovered.

Cons: We wish that it was designed with all cables on the rear.

Other Thoughts: We should have purchased this a long time ago. Hint: You can access the print server menu by keying the assigned ip address into your browser. It will be helpful to review the support pages at iogear before starting to install. Hope this feedback is useful to others.
