Rating + 5 Better than I expected

Pros: VERY FAR RANGE, Awesome Signal Strength, Speed Everything is awesome. Software setup was a breeze and the router itself looks quite good in my house along side my white HP printer. The Blue LEDs don't bother my sister who uses the computer hardlined to the router right next to it daily.

The Router has plenty of features, more so then I thought. Awesome.

Cons: Slow Router Management (192.168.1.1). Saving things and initial start up are a little slow.

Other Thoughts: I was a little weary about getting a netgear product after years of linksys loyalty, but I needed a super quick solution and picked this up at a local store after my old WRT54G started dropping signal constantly after 5 years of abuse. Totally blew me away. I'm on the other side of the house, one floor down, through at least 3 walls. Blew me away, totally happy. I don't even have the Rangemax adapters. Definitely a recommended buy.

Rating + 5 AWESOME!!!

Pros: Without a doubt this thing blew my mind. I maticulously searched for a budget friendly powerful option to have wireless freedom in my home and I have to say this little guy went above and beyond. It was basically plug and play. I have my desktop, 2 Xbox 360's, and 2 Laptops. Just on this unit centralized in my living room area and the reception is ridiculous!!!.

Cons: NONE!!!

Other Thoughts: Talk about bang for your buck!!!

Pros: range range and range i just cant overload it i have a my toshiba sli5,2 hp laptops,1 compaq,2 ps3s,a psp,archos5 then i have my desktop and xbox hardwired to it oh forgot about the ancient dell in my brothers room and dell laptop when my sister comes over.i have a time warner 15mb connection im on my toshiba right now down stairs in my living room my router is 35ft away behind 2 walls upstairs behind my plasma and i got all 5 bars.usually about 4-5 connections are active.its so strong my neighboors see my network before there own

Cons: i want the new draft n ive had this old girl for 4 1/2 years and i dont want to risk getting somthing i may not be as happy with.i cant count on one hand the dropped connections it aint broke so ill wait it out for new tech

Other Thoughts: when i first got this router i was using an ancient ibm thinkpad with wireless b and my friend next door was sharing the connection im amazed there are bad reviews for this router and they paid a fraction of what i paid for it

Rating + 3 Decent performance, short life

Pros: Attactive design. Flashing LEDs

Cons: Limited lifespan. Basic user interface does not allow the customization some users require

Other Thoughts: I have owned this router for over a year, making it just out of warranty. When I first bought it to replace a failing linksys (3 years old) it worked flawlessly. Connections to the router were not quite as fast as the linksys, but still the speed was there. Then it mysteriously stopped handing out DHCP to my xbox 360 wirelessly. It would connect wired. My laptop can connect just fine, but the xbox would not pull an IP address, only an APIPA, even with security turned off. I updated the firmware with no luck. The cheapest alternative was to replace the router. I went with the Linksys WRT54GL and low and behold my xbox was back online wirelessly, even with security. It also began to experience random lockups during use as well.

Rating + 2 Drops signal and must be rebooted

Pros: Nice web interface as other netgear products. Routing works for FTP server, reason why I bought it.

Cons: Poor weak signal, barely covers my 1br apt. On a worse note, it drops signal often, and it got worse and worse by the month; the wireless signal "disappears" simultaneously from my three laptops and it has to be rebooted every time. Phisical resets helped to make it work a bit longer but eventually it became unsuable and I am RMA it now.

Other Thoughts: Blue led discoteque is absurd, I always switched it off.

Rating + 5 E.T. Phone home!

Pros: Using this with my XP laptop is great! No connection problems and lightning fast transfer speeds, I love it. The added features like NAT and MAC addressing have really secured my home network, plus the four LAN ports allow me to hard line my desktop and anybody who comes over to visit without hassle.

Cons: Using this with my wife's Vista machine was a pain, the computer wouldn't send the correct syn-ack to wake the router and I always had to connect first with my machine before she could access the network, but once we switched her over to Win 7 there was no issue.

Other Thoughts: I have had to reset the router from time to time, but not overly much and the features all but cancel out any negative aspects of the device.

Rating + 5 Good but .....

Pros: Works exactly as described and expected, cannot find any shortcomings.

Cons: I purchased this product with the intent to take it on a trip and make my wired hotel room wireless. When I received it I was surprised at its physical size- it is about twice the length and depth of my D-Link router, so I will instead probably be taking my D-Link on vacation, because it is smaller and will fit better into a suitcase and take up less room.

Rating + 2 Decent but Spotty Signal

Pros: Low Profile. Breeze to set up. Like the blinking lights. Have had it for more than 3 years. Good connectivity. However, signal drops fast when more than 75 feet away.

Cons: Signal drops fast when more than 75 feet away. This unit has started losing connectivity since the last 9 months. Needs to be reset almost everyday. Before that it worked flawlessly. I paid more than $120 when it first came out. Should not be dropping signals.

Other Thoughts: Planning to upgrade to N. Looking at Netgear 3700 or Dlink 4500.

Rating + 1 Failed at DHCP

Pros: The wireless range of this router is very impressive and it has several configurable features that are easy to access (like all netgear routers).

Cons: Mine won't do DHCP properly and the wired connections seem to drop often. Probably just got a defective model, but still, it irks me.

Other Thoughts: No matter how I configured this thing, it just could not assign IP addresses automatically and reliably. I had decent results when manually setting IP's on my devices. However, I run a media server that is directly wired to the router, and another device that was also directly wired could not reliably access the server. The connection would often drop within 30 minutes or so. Overall, I would not recommend Netgear routers as they seem to be more "luck of the draw" to get a reliable one.

Pros: This is a most excellent wireless router. It has the advertised wireless range that I needed. No surprises or disappointments. I've thru the LinkSys and Belkin medium range equipment, and this one is it for me.

Rating + 5 Still Going Strong!

Pros: Well known brand. I have had mine for almost 3 years now and it is still working. It has always had good range for me. Whether I am upstairs from it, or on the other side of the house, I get no less than 4/5 bars. There are about 10 networks that my laptop picks up, but this router doesn't seem to be affected by any interference.

Cons: Not N I guess.

Other Thoughts: WPN824 v3, currently using all 4 LAN ports plus a couple wireless components, and have never had any torrent or gaming issues, except the typical wireless lag spikes on peer 2 peer games. That will happen with ANY router, not just this one. So, pay little attention to the previous review ;)

Rating + 2 Do Not buy(Worhtless for Torrent/Gaming)

Pros: UFO like lighting, Worked good for about three months. 4 lan ports and 1 wan port.

Cons: Netgear are not good at handling more than average traffic .Whenever I try to connect a wireless laptop I have to physically reset it. Losses connection very often. Gaming on this router is totally a nightmare. It worked ok for 3 months when I had only two computers on it. After I started using wireless on my new Intel b/g/n wireless adapter it dosent accept the connection.

Other Thoughts: Not suitable for Torrenting/Gaming
Netgear is know to have classical problems including handling load of traffic.

Rating + 5 Great

Pros: It is great, easy setup, for people that know a bit about routers gives you a lot more choices than a Linksys.

Cons: As far as I could tell it won't do 1Gbp, and all my computers can do 1Gbps, so that is the only think I though was bad but is because Im an IT in Networking so I want my network to run as maximum as it can but for regular home base network is great.

Pros: -Decent speed
-Is able to reach entire area of the house
-Easy set up
-Multiple antenna seem to help get the best signal

Cons: -None that I can think of

Other Thoughts: A good router for the money. Picked up one for my dorm room after having one at home for 3 years. The one at home is still working well even after 3 years of use.

Rating + 5 Good mid-range value

Pros: One of the earliest affordable implementations of MIMO, and still generally adequate today. It truly is fast, and I've got coverage throughout the entire house even though I have it in a closet (like you're not supposed to do.) When paired with a RangeMAX card, it is even faster and better, but even still I did notice a range boost with a standard 11g card over the previous ordinary wireless router that this unit replaced. I am grateful for the included button to disable the pretty blue flashy antenna indicator lights. It was awesome for about 5 minutes.

Cons: About a year ago, the router started making this high-pitched whiny hissing sound whever there is activity (which in my house is pretty much constantly.) I can't hear it unless I'm within about a meter of the thing, and at the time I thought it was perhaps a sign that it is failing. Well, I'm still waiting, and it's still working fine, so I guess it's no big deal.

Other Thoughts: I bought this thing a few years ago when it was THE sh*t, and haven't bothered to replace it. I've got a feeling it'll still be working fine whenever I finally upgrade to 11n.

Rating + 4 seems good so far

Pros: Extended range.

Cons: well, you have to set it up before it will connect to the internet, you cant just plug it in and go. But thats no biggie as you really should go through and re-config your password and encryption anyway, so setting it for DHCP is nothing extra.

Other Thoughts: I've had a few routers. This 1 is pretty good. I'm not sure what the differnece between the NAR and this 1, but this is the model I could get my hands on. Range is better than the other routers i've had, it reaches my garage, where the other ones wouldnt. It definatly doesnt have 10 times the range (like the box says) but that should be obvious. The box also says 10 times the speed, I'm not sure what their talking about. Id say it gets a few extra feet range, maybe 10, but thats all i need to reach the couch in my garage. Its more about how many walls the signal can pass through in my opinion, this one is going through about 4 (or around them?) . Latancy is good at long range, I get about a 5 ms average ping time at 30% signal stregth. About 1 out of 20 pings will be a high number like 200+ ms, but no dropped packets so I say its good for a residential router. Overall I'm happy with this 1 so far. Will have to see how it performs over time, I've only had it for a couple hour

Rating + 4 It is better than the old one

Pros: I replaced a 5 year old D-Link. This one has ~75% more range. I can sit in my garage brewing beer and watch the financial channel via my slingbox and follow my java based realime stock quotes.

Cons: This refirb didn't include the resource CD. A note inside said to download it from netgear.com. I spent a few minutes on the site and couldn't find the resource CD.
I just connected it and used my head to set it up.
In typical Windows fashion, I had to shut everything down, power down computer, power down router, power down cable modem, power down kitchen light, power down vehicle lights, power down street light, power down Statue Of Liberty, power down Effie tower. Then it worked and has been solid ever since. Even came back without a glitch after a power failure.

Other Thoughts: The first refirb was defective. It wouldn't stay connected. I chatted with Newegg and they sent me a replacement, overnight. What else could a guy ask for. Outstanding service. Good product.

Pros: I LOVE IT ALOT AND AFTER 2 AND A HALF YEARS I HAVE NO PROBLEMS AND I'M HAPPY, AND KINDA SHOCKING U WOULD HAVE PROBLEMS WITH IT, EVEN WHEN IT COMES TO DISTANCE IT'S GREAT. EX. I LIVE ON THE 4 FLOOR OF A BUILDING AND I CAN GO TO THE FIRST FLOOR AND EVEN GO OUTSIDE AND GET GREAT SERVICE SO SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH U IF U GO 15 FEET AND LOOSE SERVICE.

Cons: THE LIGHT IS VERY BRIGHT AND I SAT ONE DAY TRYING TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THE HELL WAS GOING ON AND GOT DISSY SO I TURNED IT OFF.

Other Thoughts: I LIKE IT AND I WOULD GET THE NEW VERSION IF THIS ONE BREAKS, CAUSE IT'S JUST RELIABLE AND PROBLEM FREE TO USE

Rating + 5 Picked up a refurbed unit for $17

Pros: Newegg occasionally has same unit listed as refurbed for very cheap (I paid $17), so check around! I bought it and it works the same as my old WRT624 that died after years of service. Negear setup seems easier than other brands I've used.

Cons: Special high-speed features require matching hardware in PC and accessories. LED lights are bright, but can be turned off easily with button on router.

Other Thoughts: Can't complain for the price I paid, but for $69, I'd just stick with a cheaper model, unless you plan to use as a repeater.

Rating + 3 So-So

Pros: My grandma could install it, lightweight, on/off switch for led lights

Cons: small coverage area, needs to be used with adapters to get advertised signal range and quality, led lights are annoying

Other Thoughts: I had to buy another router because the old Netgear WGT624 I had finally crapped out. You mine as well not read the box and get yourself all excited when you read about how great the speed and coverage are because that is not true. I just hooked up my old router just to see what its coverage and speed are and even after 4 years it still has better coverage than this one. I get full strength and speed up to about 15 feet with no walls in the way. As soon as I go past 20 feet with no walls, the signal drops to good and only 48 Mbps. The furthest place away in my apartment I can get is 30 feet from the router with 3 walls in the way and I get 36 Mbps and low signal strength if I am lucky. The price may be enticing but it's not worth sacrificing quality. If you do go with this one, definitely sit within 15 feet to use the wireless and watch out if there are any walls in the way.

Pros: Works very well haven't had any connections problems. I don't lose signal and my computer never has problems finding the signal when it wakes up from sleep mode.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I had a Linksys WRT150N that had all kinds of problems especially when the computer would wake up from sleep mode the Netgear has had no problems. I'm using a Encore wireless N PCI card and it work just fine with the wireless G.

Rating + 3 Excellent range; poor with multiple machines

Pros: Excellent range.
Easy to configure.
Aesthetically pleasing.

Cons: Poor ability to connect to several machines. If too many machines are connected to the router of if a machine attempts to use a program like bitorrent, the router becomes crippled.

Rating + 3 Its alright...

Pros: *sigh* i bought this router like 1-2 years ago i cant even remember. i bought it for like 120$ back then. The router is fine does it job only 100 foot coverage area or around that... don't believe what they say..easy to set up ect..ive had it for about 2 years or more, nothing wrong with it. No problems at all.

Cons: The coverage area is a huge lie, i am literally 20 feet from the router and i get 4/5 bars with it. Imagine the other distance. You better wish nothing ever happens to this router, i had the unlucky chance of something happening and i had to call customer service...it was hell they were no help at all, i could not even understand them and they kept repeating the same thing over and over claiming it was my computes fault, i eventually fixed the problem my self and hung up on them.

Pros: -Decent Menus.

Pros: Easy to set up

Cons: Did not have as good a range as my previous Netgear wireless router. I bought it because it claimed 10x range. Not true! While I'm sure this is a fine wireless router its claims of superior coverage are pure trash.

Other Thoughts: If you are purchasing this item to increase range over another wireless router, save your money. It has no better RF output or antenna system than any other decent router. There is also no way to connect up an external antenna system.

Pros: Great router. Once I had it set up, I never had to restart it or even touch it. Works great with my Belkin Network USB hub. Never gets hot. Not even warm. Wireless G plus Range Max is a great alternative to N.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Huge step away from my old Belkin router. Again, this technology is a great alternative to N if you are only looking for range.

Rating + 5 Birth-to-death

Pros: I bought this sucker about 4 years from writing this review. Best purchase I've ever made. 4 story ~6,000 square foot home and I get signal in every corner. The nice thing about this router is even if you have low signal, you get high speed.

I did not use this as a DHCP server, I use a high-end cisco with VPN for the initial routing, and I have the RangeMax just throwing around wireless internet access. It has all the basic needs in the setup, and in my opinion one of the easier ones to configure.

For the price, it is undeniably the best choice. Don't get fooled by the lack of exterior antennas.

Cons: It finally died on me today.

Other Thoughts: Do I buy another one to replace, or look at the newer models?

Rating + 5 Good router

Pros: This is a great router imho. I had this for about 2 years now and no real complains about it. Set up is easy and firewall on it is great. Im a network engineer. But in order to get the most out of this router, you need to know that basics of wireless and networking. The 108 or superG is great but cannot be used it you have a home phone on 2.4ghz spectrum since SuperG uses a wide range which WILL cause your connection to drop. Other than that this is a really great router, VoIP and VPN run great without problems. I also have a homelinux webserver that i run and the port forwarding feature is simple to setup. Signal strength is absolutely fantastic but make sure you know what channel other people are running their routers on in you neighborhood. In my apartment complex I have everyone running on 6 so i put this to 11 and runs without a hitch. Im on the third floor and i allow my cousing, on the first floor, to use my internet and he has no complains about the signal.

Cons: I agree that the firmware isnt the best out there but always make backup before you upgrade you routers firmware not all the new firmware are great.

Other Thoughts: Great router for newbies as well as experienced users. For me it was a toss up between this one and the Cisco 871W. The price as well as the power consumption made me choose this. Bare in mind that the Cisco 871W is for experienced USERS only, it is an enterprise level hardware.

Pros: Good price, easy setup, lightshow can be turned off. I have had to re-install XP once since I bought this, install was even easier the second time. Good range, but that seems more dependant upon the receiver than this unit.

Cons: Needs to be reset (unplugged/plugged) about once a month, don't know why, don't care because it's easy to do.

Other Thoughts: Delivery was speedy, used cheapest and got it in two days. Does Newegg rock? Of course!

Cons: Flaky firmware - needed reset at least once a month
Failed completely after slightly more than a year, replacement (from another manufacturer that no longer sells in the U.S.) has been solid for over a year with not a single crash or need to reset except for DD-WRT firmware upgrades

Other Thoughts: There are routers that run DD-WRT or Tomato for less money than this unit that will give more consistent performance

Pros: While it worked, I was happy with it and had few problems. The user UI is nice and I never had issues setting up MAC filtering or WPA.

Cons: I've had it not quite 2 years and it started dropping off line about a month ago. EVERY day I'd have to cycle power to it to get wireless (or wired) back. Now, it's completely dead. I paid almost $100 for it when it was a new product. Should certainly last longer than 2 years.

Other Thoughts: It's 2008 and we're still paying for junk in the networking world.

Rating + 5 Excellent!

Pros: My home is 3100sq ft and the standard G router I was using prior would struggle to provide an adequate WiFi signal throughout the 5 bedroom house. Dropped and lost signals were a common daily occurrence. The WPN824 however provides excellent coverage and speed. The weakest signal I'm getting at the furthest point away from the router is nothing less than Very Good! Setup was a piece of cake, and I had the router wired up and running in about 15min out of the box.

Cons: Not wall mountable, like older models (no screw slots on the back). Blinking LED's on top are quite bright, but thankfully you can turn them off. No external antenna jack/provision.

Other Thoughts: It's without a doubt your best bang for you buck when it comes to a solid performing G router.

Pros: This was a very easy set up. The cd disc gives you a step by step format. If all wireless setups are this easy why do servers charge so much for setting it up for you. I chose to set it up myself and I glad I did. It only took me ten to fifteen minutes at most. I have a excellent connection throughout my whole house. I think this product is great.

Cons: I have not experienced a con.

Pros: nice price, easily set up

Cons: setup wizard on cd takes forever to set up. if you have any technical knowhow at all, i suggest logging into the router and using the "advanced" setup.

Other Thoughts: if you buy this router for online gaming, specifically xbox live, like i did, you'll think it's not working properly right out of the box. these routers are coming preloaded with a firmware version that, if you check the xbox website, is not compatible with live. no problem, these little beauties have a feature that will search for, download, and install the newest firmware, which is live compatible. so far it's been a great little box, and operates quicker and cooler than my old d-link that finally gave up the ghost after 7 years.

Pros: Insane range i have toshiba x205 sli-6 an ancient ibm thinkpad,ps3 an, xbox 360,psp they all run flawlessly very easy setup for newbies i have roadrunner turbo 10mb down 1mb up and my toshiba which uses a transmenta wifi gets about 9800kbs down in my back yard my router is upstairs in my room !!!!!!

Cons: oh i love the blinky lights during the day but at night there a bit much i had to hide the router behind my tv and it still has insane range..

Other Thoughts: i cant what these range routers are going for these days i paid 120$ for mine 2 years ago and i still think thats a great deal considering your getting a reliable router that never drops a connection and ive tried to overload it on purpose.keep in mind i have some times 5-6 devices all using non netgear wifi recievers.imagine if i used rangemax cards wow.

Pros: Amazing stability and reliablity, can double as a wireless repeater, 7 Antennas, DAS BLINKIN LIGHTS (activity indicators for the antennas), DNS Attack proof!

Cons: Minor connectivity issues, no loss of connection, but it does have to slow down if your more than 2 or 3 rooms from the router.

Other Thoughts: If you don't like the router, just turn it into a wireless repeater... Also, it logs everytime someone trys to DNS Attack you. When I got the router i was having attacks 2-3 times a min. but now (6 months later) its down to maybe once every 2 mins. Oh and the router never even hiccuped because of these. Man, I love this router!

Rating + 5 Stellar

Pros: Amazing router just plug it in and set it up and it works great. Excellent coverage and never drops signal, it also has a very intuitive OS and easily upgradeable firmware. Smoking fast.

Cons: not really a con but the lights on top look cool until you try to sleep and it looks like a space ship is landing in you're room, but with this version 2 there is a button on the back to turn the blue leds off whereas the previous version 1 did not.
Hard to setup with Verizon DSL modems Very hard!!!
GREAT ROUTER!!

Other Thoughts: Make sure you get the version 2, if you are looking at the previous version 1 don't get it it isn't nearly as good as this one. the old one will drop signal somewhat often and its range is far less. this router works extremely well with Clear wire modems D link routers are horrible with clear wire.

Rating + 5 Awesome Lights

Pros: I have one of these at home and two at work. The one at home is the first version, the ones at work are the second version and came with a black "eye patch" for the blinky lights. Been a great wireless router. Upgraded firmware a few times. Still running great. The omni-direction antenna setup works great and covers a large factory area at work

Cons: Netgear needs to make a gigabit version of this (WAN gigabit, too!!)

Other Thoughts: System Up Time 343 days 10:55:39

This one is sitting way up near a 30ft ceiling, with a battery backup.

I have a PC Card that does the 108mbps, provides good throughput without cords. The PCI 108mbps card got broken by my ex.

Rating + 5 Best Router I've ever used!

Pros: MIMO (Multiple In, Multiple Out) Technology. o.O Excellent Range as advertised. If you buy RangeMax Wireless Cards, it increases the range by one/two bar(s). What kind of router's range gets BETTER after a few minutes? None, but this one! Internal Antennas are great because you don't have to worry about them being broken off and damaging the router.

Cons: The blinking super bright LEDs where the wireless antennas are, are kind of annoying... but thank goodness netgear put a on/off button for them in the back. Smart. =)

Other Thoughts: About the review below that talked about no autodetecting internet... is not true if you have cable. Mine detected DHCP from Cable internet just fine. I don't know about DSL though. If you want to make dialup wireless, use Internet Connection Sharing to share your dialup connection to the router and tick the box to auto connect on the main computer that's hosting the dialup. Also, to extend the life of digital equipment, always keep your house clean. Dust and static electricity float in the air which kill electronic equipment.

Pros: Decent price, good lan speed, familiar Netgear options

Cons: Auto-detecting the internet is still broken as it has been for at least the last 5 years. Accessing the internet thru wifi is slow enough to time out at least half the time (with a 90% signal), while wired internet is just fine. I replaced a WGT624 with one because I had to reset it quiet often. I'll be switching back.

Other Thoughts: Bought two at the same time. One provides better range but has to be reset every couple of hours. The other one was supposed to replace a degrading WGT624, but is in much worse shape.

Rating + 4 Interesting, some of the same old problems

Pros: Compact, very good range, simple to set up. Supports my VPN and VoIP. I bought this with a coupon to replace a one year old fried Netgear WGT624v3 which suddenly died on the wireless side. The 824 is a good solid router. I sort of like the internal multiple antennas which preclude any external poles. It's a solid connector and didn't require any special tweaking to get everything running including my VPN connection and two different VoIP TA's behind the router.

Cons: No external antenna port, No QoS, The flashy light thing is stupid. Netgear longevity is not excellent. I DO wish Netgear would splurge $5 or so and at least provide a standard external antenna port so I could put a large antenna or Hawking type signal booster on it. Furthermore, though I don't need the feature, have a QoS would be good. Also note this is a rather new router and I've already flashed the firmware twice with newer revs.

Other Thoughts: I really don't understand the flashy dome with its own on off switch. Netgear should save the money and put in an external standard antenna connector instead. If they didn't want to make it stackable they could have just made it some crazy shape instead of putting some useless flashing thing on it. Otherwise it appears to be solid. I DO hope it lasts more than my old 624 workhorse which too was a great router until it died after one year.

Pros: The pros of this router include the facts that it has a good range, its easy to set up and netgear makes the setup process very easy.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: When people complain that they don't understand why they need te blue LEDS they should look it up online. Each of the 7 LEDS stands for one of the antennas inside the unit, when they are flashing they are showing which antenna or antennas are being utilized at that point.

Pros: Great signal strength with the 7 internal antennas - solid stability even far away from the unit. I have not had to power cycle the unit once since purchase. Handles heavy loads over the wired and wireless without fail and doesn't bog down the rest of the network.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I haven't gotten a Rangemax Reiceiver yet so I haven't gotten to use the full 108Mbps side of the wireless

Rating + 5 Great Home Router

Pros: I have owned and installed over a dozen of these, from the original to the current revision. The wireless range is fantastic. In newer homes, this thing covers the entire house, and half-way down the block. In older homes with more substantial wall construction, it still has far superior range to non-MIMO routers.

Cons: Like most consumer routers, heavy use, especially bit torrent requires you to reboot the router from time to time. For most people, it's once a month, but for heavy users, it can be daily.

Other Thoughts: If this guy had a gigabit router, I would be even happier.

Rating + 5 So Far So Good

Pros: Easy to use and setup. Have had experience with Netgear routers in the past and had just moved from a "L......". I would say setup is easier on the Netgear when not using a setup CD. Never use those anyway. As far as range goes can't really speak on that. Use laptop behind one wall directly behind so no distance from router. The "L" was a B that was being used as a spare and that got coverage to our backyard. Live in a large city so true range can't be tested.

Cons: So far so good but have read other reviews.

Other Thoughts: Couldn't pass it up in local shop when saw tag of $25. So at that price and performance it was a no brainer.

Pros: This is a great simple easy to use right out of the box router. I have installed several of these for my clients and they just work! I have used Linksys routers in the past and although they are easy to work with, they burn up or just die. The Netgear has its 7 built in antenna for its range and signal. It has not let me down yet.
I highly recommend the router and as always, follow the directions people :-)

Cons: NONE

Rating + 3 It works

Pros: Good range and I haven't had any issues with dropped connections. Wireless speed is pretty good.

Cons: You can't forward the same port on multiple computers like you can on a "L" brand. It can be done though "Port Triggering" option but I always like to be detailed and only port forward for certain computers on the network. I wasn't happy having to open up a port for all computers on the network though Port Triggering on the Netgear when only 2 computers need the port forward. The flashy blue lights got to me after awhile and I turned them off.

Other Thoughts: Besides the limited options for port forwarding/triggering, it's a good router.

Pros: Decent web interface, 108 MBps support, automatically checks for firmware updates

Cons: MAC filtering interface is literally broken and I experienced a lot of dropped signals when MAC filtering was enabled for some reason. WPA-PSK would not work with my NetGear WPNT121 adapter! Requires Windows wizard to initially setup??

Other Thoughts: This product just seems too buggy, and NetGear seems in no rush to release a new firmware update. I loved my WGT624, so when it died I thought I would replace it with this one. Big mistake.

Pros: I've always had success with Netgear Routers. Once again this one hasn't given me any problems at all. It always holds a solid connection wired and wireless even when I've had 4-5 active connections going at one time. Very simple to setup and secure.

Cons: Nothing

Other Thoughts: I don't want to put this in the "cons" cause they're my personal preferences and don't effect performance but the blue lights on top seem pointless to me and can be really bright. Alot of the newer ones have a switch to cut them off. And i wish the router was just a tad bit smaller(I guess i'm used to the smaller WGR614).

Rating + 2 Does not function as advertised

Pros: Super easy to set up. Basic use works great, including wireless. Great for people who do not need to use any port forwarding.

Cons: Port forwarding/Triggering/DMZ do not function at all. The router will only forward packets after I click "apply" and update the settings. After a few minutes to an hour (it always varies) the router will start blocking those ports again. Even in DMZ I am experiencing this issue.

Other Thoughts: Firmware support is very poor. Tech support is outsourced and they are very rude. The *official* netgear forum is full of posts complaining about this router. Do the smart thing and don't buy it.

Pros: I can get a good signal anywhere in the house with this router. We have two desktops and two laptops that link to and get good reception with a variety of adapters. My main cpu links to it with a Netgear wg311t which is a 108mbps adapter and my daughter's boyfriend commented on the speed. I don't use the blue lights but they don't bother me either.

Cons: I wish it was black to match my stuff, but I dont care really.

Other Thoughts: I'd pay more than they charge for it if I needed one. It is far more reliable than the internet cable company.

Pros: It worked right out of the box... configuration was easy. Signal strength (to a matching Netgear card) is excellent. Unlike some other purchasers, I don't see dropouts, bandwidth fades or other burps. Maybe I'm lucky... dunno.

Cons: Memo to Netgear: Ditch the flashing blue lights and pass the savings along to the customer.

Other Thoughts: Saw one review where a user complained that a pc directly below the router didn't recieve signal. Turn the unit on it's side. Almost every one of these routers will NOT have unitary gain antennas... think of the signal being broadcast in the form of a doughnut laying on top of the router. Not much signal goes in the 'down' direction.

Rating + 4 Tried two, second one is great

Pros: Works as advertised. Blue lights can be turned off. Easy to use web interface.

People who complain about drop outs should try changing to a different channel since it can interfere with your wireless phones.

Cons: This is my second WPN824. The first one had signal power swings (20-40%) when I had several wireless devices going at once. The second one is solid as a rock.

The first one lasted about a year. Then it started disconnecting for about 15 minutes every hour like clockwork. I thought it was my cable company, but they found nothing wrong. I got a new router and the problem went away.

Other Thoughts: It would nice to see the throughput for each computer on the network. The status page shows the overall throughput, but doesn't break it down by computer. I'd like to know when my kids are sucking up the bandwidth.

Rating + 1 NETGEAR is simply a bad company nowadays

Pros: The help menus are good.

Cons: The quality of NetGear products is not like what it used to be. A working product is hit or miss. I strongly advise anyone to buy any brand other than NetGear. If you want a reliable product, buy TrendNet.

Other Thoughts: NetGear's customer service is the worst experience I have ever had. It's even worse that AT&T. I talked to 7 L1 techies. Not a techie had an understanding of the product. One didn't even know what buttons were on the hardware. One couldn't write a complete english sentence. Their accents are so thick, I had to have them repeat what they said 3 times. And what they said was simplistic--a result of having no technical background. They "support" by recipe--a script, not by understanding. After 1 week of their guessing, they escalated me to L2. The L2 tech said I had a hardware problem. He authorized me to get an RMA. The RMA experience was yet another regrettable experience. Customer "service" has absolutely no flexibiity in their policy. My only option was to swap one inferior product for the same inferior product. And I have to pay the postage to send back their defective product. BTW, if you Google "worst router", you'll get NetGear.

Pros: Speed was just what i needed, aesthetically pleasing, since it can be vertical and horizontal it saves space, works well with my laptop (wirelessly without that stupid adapter), my desktop (directly connected), and my xbox360 (directly connected). Great connection on all and after 6 months i've never had it drop me, clear installation

Cons: Blue leds abnormally irritating, flashing through a random pattern while in use (that said, just press the led on/off), short ethernet cable. it's G so it's not the fastest out there

Other Thoughts: let me clarify that my NETGEAR WPN824 came with a led on/off switch just to the left of the power connector. The picture shown here on newegg does not have the switch mentioned. I recommend this to people who need something that works dependably and well.

Pros: Sleek and pretty. Blue LED's that you can turn off. Wired connection works.

Cons: Wireless signal drops or wireless surfing going out at inopportune times, only to come back 10 min later like nothing happened. Remedied (somewhat) by upgrading the firmware and disabling all the extra stuff.

Other Thoughts: The fact that the range ablities only work with a special RangeMax adapter should be made clearer. Wireless was almost useless out of the box. WHAT IS THE POINT OF THE BLUE LEDS? This is not a rave.

Pros: The wired connection seem to work great!

Cons: Got this router for a family member who just want to use it for surfing the web, and have nothing but head aches with it. Turning on the MAC Authentication seems to kill the wireless signal so that no one can connect after several minutes of it being on. Also the thing seems to drop connections very frequently and requires a constant factory reset in order to start working again.

Other Thoughts: Overall I have found to be Netgear Routers to be very good but this model seems to have a lot of issues, mostly with wireless.

I also bought a D-Link DLR655. With the D-Link, I get a solid 54Mbs signal on both sides of my house. I'll pull the Linksys out and replace it with the D-Link. Rating + 1 WORST router ever purchased

Pros: If you can keep it connected then it's good - but that is extremely rare.

Cons: Read the other reviews. DISCONNECTS FREQUENTLY. I mean a ton. At least 4-5 times a day. Sometimes, it has spaz attacks and you have to do it every several minutes. The range isn't worth the extra price either.

I am told I am speaking with highly educated engineers when after 30 minutes of waiting, I someone who can hardly speak English, or understand me as well. The signal for Netgear's technical support line is terrible. All I get is static and that doesn't help trying to understand an "engineer's" English. The only thing the "engineer" was telling me to do was the things that were already suggested on the site. I was seriously looking at the same list he was. I even pointed him out on it and told him that I knew he was looking at the FAQ on the site and after that he transferred me to someone else, who did no better job either.

Other Thoughts: I've had 3 routers in the past, all in 30-50 dollar range, and they were better than this one. Never again will I even consider Netgear.

I have never had to reboot either! It pays to switch any cordless phones to 5.8Ghz if you can. We have a 2500 Sq/ft house and we get great signal from upstairs down to the basement.

Cons: What's to fault? Spend a little time setting up the router the way you want it and in a good spot and you will hopefully not have any problems either.

Other Thoughts: I put the router upstairs as the antennas are said to be stronger in the bottom of the router and I get great signal all thru the house.

Pros: Continue: To the people that keep complaining that the wireless is unreliable - it is time to trash your old 2.4 GHZ phones and buy 5.8 ones. I had the same problem in my house and as soon as I put 5.8 Ghz phones everything is fixed. I use 3 routers in the house, all different brands. I have never ever had to reboot even one of them.

Cons: Routers:

WRT54G v.4 with DD-WRT - working for 8 months straight.

Level One - working for 6 months straight.

Netgear WPN824 v2 - 3 weeks straight.

No glitches, hick - ups, nothing.

Other Thoughts: If you have connectivity problems - do not think it is the router all the time. Check your phones, microwave, Cell Phones. Put your router away from those. Keep it on a cool, ventilated place, do not stack modem, router, switch on top - NO.

And buy 5.8 GHZ house phones. Gosh

Other Thoughts: Stay away horrible customer service company (netgear). Has great products but only when they work.

Rating + 4 Great Router for 2 Years

Pros: Great Router, easy to hook up \, decent range, best software for setting up and controlling. Easy updates right from menu.

Cons: Only lasted a little over two years. Blue light dome is a little too flashy.

Pros: The router proved to be a great product for the first year of ownership. Product longevity is not Netgear’s top priority. Most of the positive reviews listed here are because it is a good product out of the box, but do not expect it to last long.

Cons: Frequently disconnects the LAN. This router makes online gaming nearly impossible. I would advise someone that is going to run a TS or Vent server to opt for something more stable. The automatic firmware update system does not function.

Other Thoughts: The lights are irritating; however, Netgear addressed that issue, but failed to address any others.

Pros: Yery easy to setup. plausable to use as an Access point as with other Netgears. After inital set up, required updared firmware to run at all. Ran great for 2 monthsthen problems occured.

Cons: Need to rest the router every 3 - 4 days. Network bandwith drops to very little and after reboot works fine till next reboot.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking to spend the money I would sugest another router. This one has been nothing but problems for the last 6 months.

Pros: covers house great, never had any drops or interruptions. works with both windows machines, my xbox, and my mac. however the one thing i woul say to all potential buyers is to check what other wireless frequencies are already in your house (wireless phones) and buy a router thats different than that

Cons: the l.e.d.s ontop are pointless besides looking cool but we have them turned off

Pros: Good range, no external antennas to get in the way, reasonable in size

Cons: Periodic connection hiccups

Other Thoughts: It's an ok router. I got mine refurbished off woot.com, and it's generally not too bad. Every couple of weeks, it'll stop working for a few and then start again with no real explanation. Meh.

Pros: Great router, supports all my computers, it's fast and stable, it doesn't stop working if you download stuff like crazy (emule, torrents). Easy to set up, you wont have any problems with this router, even if you are new to the computer world.

Cons: Not many advanced options, router may freeze after a power outage.

Other Thoughts: The blue leds are cool but annoying if you want to sleep and don't need the wireless at the moment, just turn it off.

Pros: This router is fantastic. Strong signal, fast speed online, even the LED lights match my custom PC how perfect is that! Newegg ships on time as usual! Kudos for that! I bought the router for my MacBook Pro and it works like a charm. No hiccups so far!!!

Rating + 5 So far so good

Pros: It works! I purchased the "international version" when still available at Newegg for forty bucks, and it worked. It was v.1, and after updating at Netgear, it's been up and running nonstop for over one month (since mid-late May07). I have desktop hardwired to it, another desktop connected via wireless, and two laptops connecting wireless. This replaced a Netgear WGT624 that had good range but constantly disconnected. No problems w/international version, and range is as good or maybe better than the WGT624. This was a very good value when available.

Cons: Bigger than expected (not really a con...), blue light could get annoying (I have unit on its side w/lights pointed away from me). Unit shipped with a black plastic cover to put over blue light, but I understand v.2 units have switch on bottom to turn off light.

Other Thoughts: All in all I'm pretty pleased with this unit, although at the current pricing (eighty bucks) I'd seriously consider the high-powered Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 at fifty-nine bucks or even the Buffalo WHR-G54S at forty bucks as (from what I hear) very capable wireless routers. My major reason for going with Netgear (this time) is because I already had two Netgear-equipped remote computers (i.e. compatibility). I will likely go with Buffalo next if this router starts losing connection.

Pros: Great when it works.

Cons: I used this in a wired setup, updated firmware to latest. I lose my connection every 10-15 minutes. And it's really annoying me. Horrible horrible. Webpages load slow, drops my connection on Battlefield 2.

Other Thoughts: I assume my reasons are because I was shipped the v1 version.

Rating + 4 Pretty good router for the price.

Pros: Very fast and all features within the firmware function accordingly with my DSL connection. Also has some pretty lights that match my X360 quite nicely.

Cons: Had some problems with the SPI filter as it doesn't care for port forwarding with torrents.

Other Thoughts: Its a great router and great firmware but make sure you know some terminology when you start messing around inside of the firmware...Make sure you create a DMZ server also. Trust me.

Rating + 3 Wireless did not work fully.

Pros: Excelent connection with 4 computers, and a laptop in my living room.

Cons: My computer was in the basement, right below this, and it would not receive signal. I would be able to open a webpage every 5 minutes or so, but that was about it.

Other Thoughts: We had a power surge, and one of our computers would not connect to it, got a replacment, and it worked perfectly.

Rating + 4 good router

Pros: reliable. simple to use more stable than the other BIG names v2 has a button for the lights which can also serve as info where the "other" pc's are..;) dont care much for the anti virus pop-up..

Cons: no external antenna while it does well in a brick home and plaster walls dead spots are just not avoidable thus an external antenna jack would greatly reduce this factor.

Other Thoughts: have used many brands read the reviews on many of the products keeping in mind wi-fi did not exist 10 years ago thus it is still new for consumers there will be problems and i have discovered that keeping with the same mfg. for all the pieces seems to work best. and remember folks as this technology evolves more and more the bugs will go away and others will surface.

Rating + 5 I'd buy it again

Pros: Very easy set up. Works with difficult wireless cards, such as a Broadcom which is built into a lap top. I tossed all other brand wireless cards and went Netgear where possible with my previous Netgear router. 108Mbs is faster than my ISP and I just love the performance and RANGE. I can use my laptop over at the neighbors.

Cons: None, so far.

Other Thoughts: I can't tell you how many hours I have spent working on wireless networks. The RangeMax Wireless Router was by far the easiest to set up. I also have had other brands and am sticking with Netgear.

Pros: For my purposes this has proven to be a great wireless router. The wife and I each do moderate web-surfing via notebook pc's and that's about it and we've had absolutely no problems whatsoever in the two months we've owned it. It set up very easily in about 10 minutes. The coverage/signal strength has proven stronger than I expected and that's always good. Our house is fairly old and contains lots of signal eating plaster and lath, but even with the router on the second floor and me working in the basement I have a good strong signal perfectly acceptable for streaming audio or surfing etc.

Cons: No complaints.

Other Thoughts: I'd give it a 5 but there's always room for improvement... right?

Rating + 5 AWESOME PRODUCT

Pros: This Router is Extremely nice when compared with the silver Linksys SRX 200 that I just returned. It works as expected (Unlike the linksys router) It supports Nintendo DS very well. The best thing of all IT HAS AWESOME LIGHTS IN THE SIDE, THEY ARE SOOO COOL!

Cons: The setup CD came with a huge crack in it, no problem though when I went to do it manually it put me into a built in setup that was on the router.

Other Thoughts: THE LIGHTS ARE AWESOME.
I WILL NEVER BUY LINKSYS AGAIN!!
