Spotty with the original firmware
Pros: The range is awesome my aunts place is a 3 story townhouse and i am getting 100% signal everywhere. The blue lights are somewhat useful but are just for show. *see other thoughts
Cons: The original firmware is horrid drops the connection a lot and the browser interface took forever to get settings to apply. Went to the UK version of belikn's website and downloaded the draft 2.0 spec beta drivers every thing works great now.
Other Thoughts: I was at my aunts (taking some classes staying with her for a bit) and being the nerd i am I notice she had a new router. After asking for this one as i have an old g router at home and the signal barely gets to my room and hoping for an improvement. Plugged it in and the symptoms the reviews and what my aunt and cousin stated showed itself. After the update it works perfectly even gave it a high load test constantly downloading things at 1800 kbps/1.8mbps and uploading at 500 kbps for a few days and now it is rock solid, and exhibits none of its previous symptoms. My version is the v3000 to those having trouble try the beta firmware.
May be a con but my aunt while happy i got it working, must feel a little miffed at dropping over a hundred on her new net-gear. Especially since it only took my 5 minutes to fix.

Just awesome
Pros: Better range by far than my D-Link, open NAT, intuitive browser-based config, great design, completely reliable.
Cons: I wish the indicator icons had brightness settings. My PC room looks like a Blue Man Group concert with the room lights off.

Bad, Bad Belkin
Pros: Pretty.
Cons: Not nearly as functional as it looks. Has limited firmware, not many features. Wireless drops outs requiring resets. Range is subpar, worse than your average G router. Lights are way to bright and attention-grabbing. The illuminated icons, bright blue lights and feature set make it obvious that this is nothing more than eye candy for the less than savvy consumer. Save your money- this thing is a joke.
Other Thoughts: "N" is still in draft, which means the technology is NOT YET FINALIZED. Stick with the classics, go G, maybe even a WRT54G (early rev). Possibly the best router on the market for the money.

Solid Router
Pros: Sleek Design, Powerful Range
Cons: Sometimes can drop connection but thats about it. Usually a reset takes care of it.
Other Thoughts: I have had this for about three years now without too many issues. I had the reset issues many have experienced, but to be honest firmware updates really helped. My connection still drops sometimes but virtually is consistent 24/7. Make sure you look at your version underneath and download the latest firmware (you can use the router login menu and click firmware to check for update but it won't find any of the beta firmware listed on the website). Make sure you take in to effect that some wireless chips might not be very compatible with Draft N, and you might need the 2.0 compliant beta firmware.

great router
Pros: easy setup, information lights, sleek design, great tech help.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: I have had this unit going on 3 years, bought it from circut city, needed help once after my 2nd computer crash to help reset all, had me up and running in 5 minutes. Not only ran my 2 computers , but had my son who is not on my connections, gave him password while visting me and he was in, in a second. I have had this unit almost 3 yrs. and have never had a problem of any kind!! Set up was really easy and quick, don't know why all the negative remarks.

Bug and Firmware Update Requirement Marred Otherwise Effortless Setup
Pros: Initially, the setup was effortless and were it not for the firmware upgrade requirement due to a seriously junior software bug, this would be getting a 5 out of 5.
To get this working was a breeze. I literally unplugged my cable modem, made the data connections between the modem and this router, plugged the cable modem back in and waited until it was fully connected to the internet, then plugged the router in. I was on the 'net with wired and wireless connections. Spent a few more minutes configuring my wireless network (I was replacing an old G router).
The shock came when I could not change the administration password... see my cons below...
Cons: A serious problem cropped up when changing the default administrative password. To do so I had to leave the System Settings screen "Current Password" field blank and enter the new password twice. After repeated error messages of "Current password is invalid", I realized it was a bug. I upgraded the firmware on the router and this fixed it: I could then leave the Current Password field blank as is necessary the first time since the router ships with the password left blank as the default. I was shocked to experience such an obvious and "junior programmer" bug in what is otherwise a slick and easy-to-install and use consumer product. This will definitely generate a tech call from friends and family if you recommend it. This stinks of poor programming and poor quality control.
Other Thoughts: I like Belkin products as they proved reliable and served me well for several years in various residences and settings. I really wanted to give this 5 stars but the bug in the firmware out of the box could be a deal-breaker for folks wanting a glitch-free setup experience. Very disappointing. Will think twice before buying Belkin again.

Works
Pros: It works.
Cons: The range is no where near what the box says. I have to restart the router to get a better signal further back in the house.
Other Thoughts: I have heard the linksys is much better and next time I will go with what I have heard.

Terrible Firmware
Pros: Good price and good range on the wireless.
So far a strong wireless signal and no drop outs, but that usually comes after six or so months, so we'll see about that.
Easy set-up and nice light indicators on the actual router.
Cons: Cannot get full speed through wired ports.
If I got from my modem to router, I get terrible speeds. A direct connection or through a switch and I get the speeds I pay for.
I suspect a firmware issue.
Firmware options are very limited and poorly explained. An example is that listing for DHCP: "This does not need to be changed." ....Unless of course you don't want your router handling DHCP server duties.
Other Thoughts: Oddly enough, if I go through the switch first and then the router, I get full speed.

Firmware Needs Work (Still)
Pros: It connects to comcast's network as any gateway should.
Cons: The network is 100% wired, so this may not hold for the wireless functionality. When 1 computer on the network is on a website the other computers cannot visit the same domain. this is true with all XP and with a mix of XP and Linux. On Linux I cannot visit the same domain more than 3 times before getting errors about connecting to the server. This does not impact bittorrent transfers or IM chats. The gateway does not let you change the IPTable options.
Other Thoughts: I am assuming that the problems that I have with this gateway only appear when connecting using ethernet cables.
The port controls (specifically forwarding) are not terribly robust.

read and understand first
Pros: Good signal streanth, good range connected at 802.11g, 150 - 200 ft across walls and other wireless signal interferace, works well with vista, easily configurable thru device webpage, security works well.
Cons: bit too pricy, wait for spacials to purchase, i bought mine at a local retailer for about 120, wireless N1 needs a connect card to work, ( intergrated antenna in notebook is 802.11g. )
Other Thoughts: this device works just like it is suppose to work, you must first try to read and understand all information that comes with it, it is easily configurable thru the browser page, security works very well, check your other devices and make sure that everything is in the same configuration including the router, everything connect to the network must be in the "same page" in order for all device to communicate with eachother efficiently. wireless N1 works well it boosts the 802.11g signal and with wireless N connect card connected to the notebook the range increases to 500-600 ft. wireless N1 is atvertised at 1000+ ft range but only in "perfect" conditions, walls, interferance, and other obsticles will dissipate the signal.

Belkin 8231-4 issues
Pros: Nice looking, blinking colorful LEDs, three antennas... that are all the pros I could think of
Cons: Slow boot. No wireless communication at all, not even with security disabled. SSID on or off, still the network cannot be discovered. Just wasted $90 and 4 hours.
Other Thoughts: I am very disappointed with this Belkin product, and of course, I am not considering any more purchases from NewEgg.

Belkin wireless N router
Pros: The diagram on the front of the router is easy to understand (router lights). The security features are really good.
Cons: It does not keep a steady connection. It keeps dropping ever so often. I had bought this router to replace my Linksys that had died on me.
Other Thoughts: Its an OK router, but I wouldnt recommend it.

Worst. Router. Evar.
Pros: Looks pretty slick. 3 antennas is more than 2, so it must be awesome!
Cons: The initial version of firmware it shipped with (v16) was unable to maintain a stable connection over Draft-N with WPA encryption. As soon as one disabled WPA, or used 802.11g, the router functioned. Replacing with beta firmware (v17) fixed this issue, however, the router would not stay online for more than 2 to 3 days at a time before needing to be rebooted.
Other Thoughts: Belkin tech support was useless fixing either issue. Simply put, I will never buy another Belkin networking product ever again, period.

Deceptive
Pros: easy configuration, nice looking
Cons: This router has been billed in many reviews as being able to be used as a wireless access point, even on belkins website it's kinda leading into this and frankly if a wireless router is billed as being able to be used as an access point one would expect that it could be used as a WIRELESS access point, but this router cannot be used as a wireless access point it is only a wired access point. I bought two of these to try and use them to extend range and when i was unable to get the access point to connect to the router i emailed belkin and this was the response right from their support:
Thank you for contacting Belkin Technical Support.
We understand that you would like to enable one router as a wireless access point.
We are sorry to let you know that the router F5D8231 can be used as wired access point, but it cannot be used an a wireless access point.
There is no option available for enabling this router as a wireless access point.
Scott, if you need further assistance

Nice Wireless Router
Pros: Great signal strength, easy configuration, plenty of configuration options.
Cons: Only 4 Ethernet ports
Other Thoughts: Replaced my SMC wireless router that died after 4 years. Signal strength is better than the SMC.

No Problems
Pros: I replaced a Linksys WAP and a D-Link extreme gamer wired router with this. There are three wired pc's, one wired wii, one wired network printer, two wireless laptops and a wireless Sony PSP on the network. The system set up very quickly. I did not use the installation cd. Installed on Vista SP1. Great reception for forty feet but then it falls to "low" at sixty feet through lots of thick walls. The browser interface works very easily. It is quick to turn on and then off the broadcast ssid to add others to the network. Even with two people playing online games (at wired computers) at the same time the function was great. There was no decrease in performance when compared to the D-Link DGL-4100 with gamer fuel turned on. The security is good: the network is not broadcasting the name and the security is wpa. Even the PSP is secure on it. One of the reasons that I chose this one is that you can see immediately by looking at the front whether wireless security is on or not.
Cons: It does have the ability to perform as a WAP. I used the previous model to try this and had to take it back because it would not function correctly. I do not know if this model has the same problem. This model does not have the "guest" function which some other routers have. This function lets people use the internet but not see the network.

Decent system but not there yet...
Pros: The router looks great! Clean finish and extremely simple to set up! Took me 5 minutes to set this up as it's plug-and-play. The installation disk took care of everything and was online in 10 minutes on all my computers.
Cons: The price was high for what it gives you. I changed from a Belkin 54G to this N1+ because range was an issue for second computer of mine in another building. The box said it could reach over a 1000ft with ease and signal would travel through trees and everything...and this is not the case. I have it piggy-backed on another router because this router does not support DSL. It turns out the original (5years old) router sends a further signal although it's not as strong and doesn't give as much transfer rate.
Other Thoughts: Perhaps in a different set-up where this is attached directly from the cable modem, it would be as good as it sounds but from my experience with this on a DSL modem, it's not worth the hype. I have always used Belkin and remain loyal. Hopefully they will come out with a patch or something that can help this system.

Needs to be reset often
Pros: Range is ok- connection to N was easy. Interface is easy to use although it is UNRESTRICTED over wireless!
Cons: At least once a week the wireless goes down and is unusable until rebooted. The configuration I have is using N so this may be causing it. The router is 10/100- with N which is a waste. The range is just 'ok' considering how much emphasis there is on being long range N1 + etc.
Other Thoughts: I can deal with slowness or range issues- but since it needs to be restarted so often I can't stand this thing and I am currently looking for a replacement.

Very Happy
Pros: Delivery time was excellent - price was excellent. Setup took about 20 minutes (I used the web based setup). I have 4 computers - 1 non-wireless (pc) and 3 wireless (2 macs and 1 pc). Easily connected all to the internet. Had to call call Belkin about updated firmware (turns out I had the latest). Tech Support was easy to reach and hold time was about a minute.
Cons: None at this time.
Other Thoughts: Don't know why I waited so long to do this. Now onto setting up a network so we can share the printer.

Nice Show Piece
Pros: The N1 provides a very stable connection throughout my 2-level house. I have been a computer technician for the last 12 years and have used many wired/wireless routers. The N1 is easy to setup, it connected right away to my cable modem. The front LED display is a great feature, it accurately shows what devices (cable modem, wireless nodes, wired nodes, security enabled & router on) are online/enabled. Easy to configure settings and security. I'm using WPA/psk mode and paired this with the Belkin N1 usb adapter for my wife's PC upstairs. Strong signal. The router is downstairs in my home office on my desk. No problems connecting my TIVO-II to my network wirelessly (Tivo's usb wireless adapter)and various IBM, Dell & Toshiba laptops (802.11b/g). I have a Canon mx700 multi-printer wired to an available RJ45 port (a great, networkable 3-1 printer) & shared on my network via IP address. No problems with connectivity and have not once (in 9+ months) had to reboot or hard reset this router.
Cons: I wish I had a need for another one.
Other Thoughts: Great unit, wonderful design and piano black casing; possibly the best router I've owned. I use these for my friends and customer wireless installs. I find the signal strength to be excellent for my needs. I download lots of media and share printers, files and music around my network. I download movies and TV shows (up to 3-4GB at a time) from my TIVO upstairs via wireless and I am very pleased with its download speeds and connectivity. The Tivo has a Tivo branded 802.11g usb adapter connected to it.

Burned Up
Pros: Price
Cons: When I first bought it and tried to install it the software would not work so I had to use a different installation CD that I got with my old router. After I had set up my network the router worked fine for around three weeks. Then connection errors occurred and wireless internet access would only work occasionally. I moved the router to a different room and after hooking it up to my modem and plugging it in the status lights flashed and it started smoking. I've called Belkin numerous times about this and I cannot reach anyone.
Other Thoughts: This is the second Belkin router I've owned and both routers have died within months. I'm getting a more reliable Linksys router.

Disruption big factor
Pros: Pretty basic setup. It doesn't have a bad look to it. Restarts decently quick when changing settings.
Cons: I have found that if you are near a Wii with your computer it has a lot of disruption and will drop connection alot. It seemed to be happening more so with my friends vista laptop. Also with cordless phone. I have tried everything to fix this and no go.
Other Thoughts: **Older versions of this router are horrible, even the upgrade to it didn't do anything much, just added like 2 more features.. big whoop. I bought this when it was fairly new. Not gonna make that mistake again. I don't know if the later released ones are better. If you are thinking about this do your research!**

Great Router -- But Update Firmware
Pros: This router is easy to configure and setup and has a good range. It's fast and the many lit icons in the front give you a quick overview of the status at all times.
Cons: As with some other reviewers, my internet connection would break intermittently (quite frequently actually) until I found out on this site that updating the firmware eliminates that problem. I did so and the problem is gone. So it works fine now. Belkin should have been more pro-active in alerting customers about this and highlighting this on its Support site.

Great Router.. WTH is everybody crying about?
Pros: Snazy looking, good documentation for step by step install. Very few parts to worry about
Cons: Doesn't give any information on setting up a network between computers to share files. My laptop is running XP64, my desktop is running XP Pro.. can't figure out how to get em to share, though Ive tried using the wireless network wizard from both sides several times.
Other Thoughts: with there was more support for multiple situations and applications of use.. Otherwise I have no issues.. my Dell laptops brand new N1 wifi minicard linked right up.

Pros: Easy to install. That's about it.
Cons: Low range, unstable signal. Direct line of site for this unit at about 70 feet gave me a low unstable signal, although it had good throughput. Additionally the unit would not allow access to the router interface. Sent it back. To be fair, might of been something wrong with the unit that affected signal strength as well.

I wanna smash this router with a bat!!!
Pros: Easy to read LED. Wireless N.
Cons: This router has been a nightmare since day one. When I first set up the router, it wouldn't setup. Returned that one. Got another one, and this one drops connection like no other. Then the router would not give out a wireless signal. Did this to me 4 times, and all four times I had to resort to restoring the router to factory settings to get it back up. Now, the router will not give out a signal indefinitely, even after restoring to factory settings and upgrading the firmware. Customer service had not responded to me after more than a week.
Other Thoughts: Such a horrible product. From my experience, the Linksys WRT54G router series have been very reliable and solid. Bought Linksys that router even thought I knew I was kinda downgrading. Check Newegg's reviews on that router.

Keeps on ticking
Pros: This is a update from my review on 5/2/2007. I have not had to reset this router yet. I get great transfer speeds over network and internet speeds are great as well. Also after this long all the lights still work too. I can take my laptop any place in the house and not loose any signal. For the average and advance home user this router has all anyone needs in a router. Even through all the power outages and whatnot this thing Keeps on Ticking!
Cons: The only issue I had was my sister is not able to connect with her laptop. But that is her wireless cards problem not the router. And I am not lowering the security to suit her needs. So she gets a cable end if she wants to connect.
Other Thoughts: I bought this from newegg on 12/12/2006 and I came back to buy one for my father. While I was here I been reading some of the reviews that I have not read since i was here last and see some people are not happy with this unit. I just don't understand how someone can have trouble with it. Its a very simple router yet one should have some networking knowledge setting it up. This router has worked so good for me that I forget it is even there. I hope it works as good for anyone else that buys it.

Hit or Miss
Pros: Its really fast if you are setup with full N1 wireless. I can reach speeds up to 540mbps with this thing. Good range, strong signals, easy set up.
Cons: The configuration tool is very picky. You cant change a small feature without getting kicked off of the network. Its not really user-friendly and Belkin support is garbage.
Other Thoughts: If you dont want to hassle with it, just go get a Linksys gigabit router and be done with it.

Absolute Rubbish
Pros: Absolutely none
Cons: Plain and simple, it doesn't work. Had the first one replaced because the network would drop after a minute or two. After 3 hours on the phone Indian Technical Support, and being told to do the same things over and over again by different people I was finally told the product needed to be replaced. After waiting nearly 3 weeks for the replacement, I set up the new one and it immediately does the same thing. Network stay active for a minute or two then drops, this is both wireless connection and wired connection. Don't waste your money or time on this thing.
Other Thoughts: After going through the hassle of their version of technical support, and 2 malfunctioning products I will never buy anything from belkin in the future. You'd be well advised to do the same.

It Works But The LEDS Stopped Working
Pros: Looks nice, strong multiple signals at close and distance.
Cons: Software doesn't work on MAC / APPLE or LINUX EEE PC, have to set up computers individually once security is turned on, wireless and internet LED's were flashing orange, then stayed blue a couple days, then went off completely, without software setup it can be confusing.
Other Thoughts: The LEDs will confuse you, say it's not working, but everything works fine. Setup is not easy on Mac OS X or Linux. I would have rather bought another brand.

It's pretty good
Pros: This product is relatively easy to set up for both wired and wireless connectiosn, works fine. Easier to set up than other routers.
Cons: A bit pricey but worth it
Other Thoughts: It glows in the dark!

Stay away - terrible firmware
Pros: Nice Icons on front of unit
Cons: I had high hopes of the product due to the high ratings here on newegg. After three hours of completely wasted time during the initial install, I could not connect to the unit, wired or wireless. I call customer support at Belkin, Indian call center and completely worthless use of my time. I finally gave up and left it on my desk for the night. I went back in the next morning and I was able to connect and config.
Things got worse. The firmware configuration options are limited, I cannot setup to use the unit as a bridge. In router mode, it never could connect consistently to my dlink wireless router downstream. The 'Use as AP' option did not work as expected either.
Other Thoughts: I won't be buying from belkin again for a long time. For advanced home users, dlink is my choice. Stick with dlink and stick with newegg!!

Awful
Pros: The LEDs on the front are nice
Cons: I only wish I could return this item. In the last 5 days I've had to reset it 3 times just to be able to connect. I've had connection issues when trying to connect a desktop to a laptop that was in the same room with each other (total distance couldn't be more than 5 feet)!
Other Thoughts: Maybe it's because we're a very computer friendly family and have 10 systems using this as our internet gateway and for internal network routing. But my overall experence with this device has been nothing but frustrating. Oh, and their technical support sucks as well, give them a call and you'll see what I mean.

THIS ROUTER SUCKS
Pros: when working, great speed. Good web interface
Cons: the wireless won't work! It goes on and off randomly right in the middle of things. It took one computer sitting right next to the router 20minutes to connect successfully.
Other Thoughts: Do not waste you money on this. If the wireless doesn't work why even bother buying this?

Bling!
Pros: Very stable connection. Paired with the N1 usb adapter. Also, excellent connectivity with my ThinkPad T43 (54g built-in adapter). Range is excellent. I bought mine, labeled ver. 3000. I did have some problems with the N1 usb adapter plugged in my ThinkPad, but it works flawlessly in my upstairs Abit mobo-PC. For those who disliked it, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. The blue LEDs (icons) on the piano-black front panel are real nice, as well as functional.
Cons: Wish the price was a little lower.
Other Thoughts: I have used this Belkin without issue for several months now and am happy with it. I have bought older Belkins and had some "bums". But those were always the $30 models. I passed down my 2-year old Belkin WiFi Router to my niece and she is quite happy with it.

Hardware Version
Pros: Very Easy to setup, good interface. Nice design(looks aren't everything). No problems with range, fixed my connection problem with changing channels.
Cons: Big problem is, is that I bought this a while ago and since this router has different hardware versions I just happened to get the one with the very first version. I would like to see the difference in versions I'm willing to bet that its a lot better considering the manual that came with mine had more stuff in it then it was showing me. This version only connects at 54mbps..
Other Thoughts: No point in updating the older version because it did nothing to mine.. didn't make it better or worse. I'm going to see if Belkin will let me trade in mine for the newer version. Doubt it though...

Nice
Pros: Fast wireless and wired connection. easy to use and reliable
Cons: Out of the box it had issues with my vista laptop and my asus m2n32 sli deluxe wireless connection. Y! would dump out one me but everything else worked. All Fixed now
Other Thoughts: Out of the box the device needs to be manually updated for firmware this resolved all the issues and since then it has been running fast in a house with 3 laptops 2 desktop PC's and 2 printers running off a wireless print server. Great buy

GAMERS BEWARE! This is a worthless router
Pros: Looks pretty
Cons: This router is absolute rubbish. I decided to upgrade from a linksys 54 g router last week. After installing this Belkin router and disabling the router firewall I tried to play some online games. I played my ususal BF 2142 and had horrible packet loss, lag, and dropped connections. I tried a new game, Quake Wars and found that I couldn't even get the server browser to load without losing connection.
I went to TestMy.net and checked my internet speed. My speeds are normally 8000Mbps download and 512 upload. After installing this router and a Xtreme N D-link wireless card my speeds dropped to less than 500Mbps down and less than 50 up. I tweaked router settings until I was blue in the face and could not improve the speeds or resolve the connection issues. I put my old 54 G router back in and instantly my speeds were back, packet loss was gone and zero connection issues. I wish I had read some of the horrible reviews before I bought this piece of junk. I will return it tommorrow.
Other Thoughts: To bad there isn't a zero rating.

Belkin
Pros: Fastest router I've ever owned. Works seamlessly with Belkin's N1 Wireless USB Adapter. Im getting almost 160mbps which is way faster than LAN speeds. Signal strength is very strong and hardly ever drops.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Bought this router along with the Belkin Wireless USB Hub and N1 adapter. I am very pleased with this product, would definetly recommend it.

Good Choice
Pros: Very good router once you get it working.
Cons: Quite a few problems with it at first. It dropped connection like every day until i updated firmware.
Other Thoughts: This router works perfectly once you update the firmware. In order to do this, you must go to the belkin website. For some reason when you do the "check firmware" update it doesnt work. I had to manually go to belkins website & dl the firmware that way. Over-all excellent product though.

Upgrade firmware
Pros: AFTER you upgrade the firmware it stops dropping the connections(at least in my case). Easy to configure, supports WPA2
Cons: When i first bought this a few months ago the router constantly dropped my internet connection. I gave up on it for awhile and went back to our old Linksys. CANT USE FIREFOX TO CONFIGURE, disables the wireless until you reset the router.
Other Thoughts: Make sure you upgrade the firmware off the Belkin website. Dont trust the auto update feature, it didn't see the new one for mine.

I burned mine in thunderstrom
Pros: Very Good router and fast. I got mine and upgraded firmware. It is working very good and fast.
Cons: It doesn't work with old laptop wireless cards very well. I have my roommate dell with n technology wireless card running very fast speed without any interruptions in high wireless network area. My other roommate has old dell and she is losing connection in 30 feet. My sony vaio works perfect from everywhere.
Other Thoughts: There was thunderstorm and i didn't put a surge protector for this router. all 5 ports burned under the thunderstorm. I called Belkin and they Rma very quick.

Dont Buy
Pros: None
Cons: This item does not work period, i love belkin products but i have to admit, this unit is trash, buy there regular N if you want the good distance, if you want the reliability of the Belkin name and product. i purchased 2 of these for my customers and both did not work out of the box. Drops the connection to the Cable/DSL modem constantly and very slow speeds within the network.
Other Thoughts: im very disapointed with Belkin for releaseing such a poor product, they have always had some of the best wireless networking products, there making a bad name for themselfs with this unit.

Poor Overpriced Router
Pros: Easy to set up
Cons: Poor speed, loses connectivity constantly, horrible support, way overpriced even if it did work. The main reason I got this router was for extended range but my 5 yr old Linksys reaches parts of my house this thing cannot. I even purchased the Belkin PC card hoping that would help but even that did nothing. I tried time and time again to get Belkin to work with me but they are less than worthless. Do yourself a favor and purchase a $25 router from Newegg and you will be better off.

Lousy Router
Pros: Has large, easy to see lights up front. The router looks nice. Great range.
Cons: Befor and after the firmware updated the router's speed would yo-yo. It would be at 2500 kbps and then drop to 50 kpbs. It usually hovered around 250 kbps, This was when I was even directly connected (even worse when wireless). My d-link g router outperformed this thing hands down. The D-link averaged 2400 - 2500 kbps, with almost no variation in speed (directly connected as well).
Other Thoughts: After speaking to Belkin's customer support several times and nobody knowing how to fix my problem, I opted to take this router back. I'm much happier with my old D-Link G router and I'm thinking about going with their N router.

Pros: great router
Cons: i had the same problem as other say about the connection problem. i called belkin and if you are running a router with version 2.0 then call them and they will send you a version 3.0 and it will work great. since i got my new version it works great and no connection problems at all.

DO NOT BUY BELKIN
Pros: It came from new egg on time.
Cons: This is the first and last product I will ever buy from belkin. This router was great for the first minute of using it. After that it would not stay connected to the internet, for over 30 seconds. belkin's tech support people left its problems unsolved after the five or six calls that I made to them. One time someone told me that they were sending out a new one. Well two weeks went buy and I received nothing in the mail. After more 30 minute waits on their tech support line someone is supportively calling me back to send a new one. It seems wise to return it but I am going to give its replacement a try. Here is your warning. DONT BUY ONE
Other Thoughts: I would never buy anything from belkin they are a joke.

Great router, with interesting problem
Pros: Very fast; I bought it in preparation for wireless-N, but haven't upgraded network yet. Running in G-mode, this still can't be beat. I get lightning fast speeds over the wireless network, and stream high-quality movies to my laptop from a server with no sweat.
Cons: There was a single day about 2 months back where everyone using ONLY this specific router and Comcast cable internet experienced service blackout for the entire day (accompanied with strange symptoms from the status LEDs). It was posted all over internet forums by people throughout the country, and nobody could figure out what happened. Connecting directly to the cable modem worked fine, and using other routers worked fine. The following day, everything was inexplicably back to normal, and the problem never occured again.
Other Thoughts: Other than that single confusing day, this router is EXCELLENT.

BELKIN F5D8231-4 Draft 802.11n Wireless Router
Pros: This router has a really long range and it constantly stays at around 200mbps to 300mbps on my netgear draft 802.11n card. I have no more interruptions on my games on my laptop anymore!
Cons: It occasionally loses connection to my cable modem but that doesn't matter a lot...
Other Thoughts: GET THIS WITH A NETGEAR 802.11n ADAPTER/CARD!

Nothing but problems
Pros: Have not found any.
Cons: 1. Apps would continually loose connection to the internet 2. Tech Support was non-existant 3. New replacement had same problem 4. This router version is not listed on the support website. V3000
Other Thoughts: I had problems immediately out of the box. Applications could not maintain connection for any length of time: VPN, IE, Firefox, Teamspeak, xFire, Etc. It took 2 weeks in tech support hell to finally get them to send a new router. Every time I would talk to them they wanted me to update the router firmware and they refused to listen to me when I explained that their web site did not have the V3000 version of the router on line. When the new router finally arrived it had the same problems with connectivity. Well it was back into Tech support hell again. After another week of non-solution from Belkin I have decided to return it and go with the Linksys N router instead

Insecure
Pros: Good performance, troublefree operation. The menus are clearly laid out. If not for the security issue (as I perceive it) I would otherwise give it a 5.
Cons: 1. Shouldn't have to reboot to change the password. 2. Remote mgmt access doesn't seem to work. 3. Saved the worst for last. This product begs to be hacked. Although you need a password to change settings, all the existing settings are there for anyone to see. I suppose if you lock it down this is not a problem, but if you are providing open access in an office setting this is problematic.

Has the looks to kill
Pros: Had this operating 24/7 for the past 3 months with not a single lock-up or freeze. Have not rebooted it or touched it in any way. I set it up as an AP for 802.11n ONLY with WPA2 and in this way it is even more secure. 300Mbps in windows, 154Mbps on a Mac.
Cons: If you can deal with unratified "n" spec hardware (knowing that once "n" is finished interoperation will be spotty) than this is the router/AP for you.
Other Thoughts: I have used it as an AP only so I cannot speak for it's routing or switching performance. As an AP it is great!

Normally Great
Pros: Good range, solid performance when it works
Cons: This router has worked well but I'm finding I need to reset it quite a bit and that it will for no apparant reason drop the internet for 5 seconds or so every few hours (wired and wireless connections). Which is VERY annoying if you play games online.
Other Thoughts: Another belkin owner says there is a recall, i will have to check that out

Great router!!!
Pros: I have had this router for 7 months. Has not failed me yet. Setting are super easy to configure. Has great security features. I like the light on the front as they make a nice night light.
Cons: No cons that I can see.

Lousy Router
Pros: It looks cool.
Cons: This router has been giving me trouble since day 2. For weeks it would drop the internet connection or not recognize the modem. I got so frustrated with this device that I ended up buying another pre-N (Linksys) instead.
Other Thoughts: I'm not concerned about the N technology as much as the greater range that is tacked on to these routers. I tried to get a new router but they claim it's not in stock so I have to wait. Well, I'm through with it. I probably won't have much luck with the Linksys either. They tend to fall apart after a year. But I can stomach that more than a router that cost me 100 bucks for 3 months of flaky service.

Bad on SBC/Yahoo DSL
Pros: Easy to set up. Nice distances. Sleek look. Very fast INTRAnet speeds.
Cons: Slow DSL download speeds on a wireless network. For people connecting to a DSL network, do not expect this to upgrade your speeds. You'll probably get a decrease in speeds.
Other Thoughts: I think a lot of people rating this router really high aren't using it for internet video. I watch a lot of CNBC videos. Do this simple little test. Go to speedtest.net or any other download tester. Test your download speeds with and without the router. My download speed without the router is a little over 5000 Kb/s. With the router it is a little over 500 Kb/s. I spent around 30 minutes with their technical support and the person I was talking with had no knowledge of how to fix the problem. I'm going to spend today trying to find a fix and if I can't find one, I'll probably get a new router. IF I find a solution, I'll try to post it here but my rating will likely remain the same. I can't reccomend something that's so difficult to get to work correctly.

Pros: great security options, great distance for big homes and having all options of running b,g and n is nice. you can run just one or all three.
Cons: some older system like my printer server dont like when you run the b+g+n. it will only work on the b or g.

Pros: easy set up. nice display which allows the owner to identity how your network runs, especially if there is a problem. i bought two of them to use in different environments and must say the product is very reliable.
Cons: belkin needs to improve a bit on the notebook card drivers for windows vista.

Bad Bad Bad!
Pros: Pros? Ummm...can't think of any. Connects at 300 mbp/s to my laptop considering that I'm using Belkin's ExpressCard.
Cons: 1. What's the poing of 300 mbp/s if it connects at a "Very Poor" speed (2 bars only!!). Bad range. 2. Belkin Networking Utility that handles wireless connection always kept on disconnecting. 3. The most mysterious think about this is that when I was listening to music on my laptop using Windows Media Player with Belkin's ExpressCard, the music kept on breaking up! Why???
Other Thoughts: The router is going back to Dell and ExpressCard is going back to Newegg. Thank you, but I'm staying with an excellent Linksys WRT54GX4.

Worked for 10 minutes.
Pros: Looks nice.
Cons: It worked for 10 minutes until I did the firmware update. I followed the directions precisely and even waited up to ten minutes after to be on the safe side. After the firmware update the router would no longer power up. Also, there seems to be a broken piece inside. I can hear it when I pick up the unit.
Other Thoughts: I called Belkin and they said they will replace the unit. I'm not sure if I'll go that route or if I'll send this back to newegg. I'll update or do another review when I (hopefully) get a working product.

Pros: I just set-up this router this evening and would have to say that this was the absolute easiest router configuration that I have ever seen. I have had many other name brand routers but this one is simply amazing to say the least. The speed and range are incredible.
Cons: Absolutely zero cons !!!
Other Thoughts: If you purchase this product, you also need to purchase a desktop N1 card as well as a notebook N1 card if in fact you have these additional computers in your home. Otherwise, you are cheating yourself out of the true speed that this unit is capable of. What I am saying is, do not use a G/G+/preN product with this one as that would cause this router to function at a lower connectivity.

Belkin is the best by far.
Pros: I have had this unit since December 2006. I also brought the Belkin 802.11N Notebook adapter. Using the router for 802.11N and 40Hz I connect with the N notebook adapter at 300MBPS when I use my internal G wireless adapter and use the router on G + N settings I connect at 54MBPS. When I use my G+ notebook adapter I connect at 108MBPS. Great range. I can connect to my router from the back of my house to the end of the block. Easy to install and setup. Those people complaining about connection speeds and range needs to check their settings on the router and adapters. The N and 40Hz configuration provides the higher connection speeds and longer range but only works with N network adapters not PreN/G/B. N + G and 40Hz provide longer range and N + G connectivity. By far the best N router on the market. I can't wait for the update for the finalized N protocol.
Cons: Manual is on the CD.
Other Thoughts: This router by far beats any other router on the market plus Belkin provides lifetime warrenty something that the other companies do not offer.

Great reliable router!
Pros: Excellent wireless router. I have used many Linksys WRT54G's and Dlinks and these Belkin's are by far the easiest and most intuitive to use. Easy to read indicator lights on the front of the unit mean my Mom could set one up. I have successfully used over 20 of these and have not had a single problem. No DOA's or returns of any kind. Nothing wrong with Linksys and Dlink for certain applications but for simple networks these a good choice.
Cons: None.

have to reset it every other day
Pros: I like the range of this modem, and haven't had a problem with my laptop connecting at all.
Cons: I have to reset the modem at least every other day. I never had a problem with my other routers but this one seems to need help. And the reset time is very long. Anyway, I wouldn't buy this thing again.

second unit broken also
Pros: So far this units wireless side is working (only get 54 mbps - hope it improves with future driver updates ). Three of the four wired ports work.
Cons: This is the second one with wired port #2 bad. I get the same wireless throughput with my g card.
Other Thoughts: Waiting to see if craps out like the last one,

This is the best choise for Draft-N
Pros: Upgradable to full spec "N". The most stable; has the best range; fastest in comparison to other draft-N's; easiest setup; and best warranty and support in the business, (Lifetime P/N 24/7 + online Support).
Cons: Currently, it is only capable of 53.3 mbps in mixed mode, but that should increase once upgraded to full spec in 2007. It still beats all other brands like models in mixed mode.
Other Thoughts: I have done a lot of research and read a ton of reviews and have found that all brands of draft-N currently fall far short of there advertised speed, but of all the brands this Belkin N1 is the best choice when used with its matching N1 adapter. It also works great with all other brands adapters, as well.

Rushed?
Pros: To put it plain and simple, this is the best router overall. I found it to be accurate and great at security.
Cons: It's a tad bit harder to open ports for remote desktop and other services, due to it's great security. A great site for that is www.portfoward.com
Other Thoughts: This is the best router for the buck. I'm Certified with Microsoft, just to give you an ideal of my knowledge.

Immature Hardware
Pros: Looks pretty. Fairly good throughput Excellent range Nicely laid out configuration homepage
Cons: Requires firmware update upon startup. Status lights not very accurate
Other Thoughts: This feels like a product that was rushed out onto market. The guts of it are pretty good (great connection speed, good interface, nice engineering); however, the entire package is lacking in polish. For example, the unit is quite finicky in the order in which you power on your devices. It's not smart enough to sense a connection with your modem (or whatever) if you don't powercycle correctly. Also, the much vaunted status lights aren't particularly good in giving you up to date information. For instance, I'll be able to connect to the Internet while the router is showing that there is no connection available.
Not too bad all in all but it probably could have used a little more development.

Wait for it to be fixed
Pros: Fast when it works.
Cons: It doesn't work reliably. This is still very much draft technology and was clearly rushed out by Belkin looking to make a quick buck from early adopters. The firmware is okay but not great or all that flexible. The router has to be rebooted every couple days as it just decides to stop recognizing the cable internet connection. My Belkin N-1 desktop card has suddenly decided to stop connecting to the router entirely (after 1.5 months) despite seeing the network and router as active. Technical support on Belkin website is nonexistant for this product line.
Other Thoughts: Worked more or less fine for a month because I was willing to put up with the host of minor flaws in exchange for fast performance. However, the flaws added up until the adapter card (not the router) just went kaput for no reason. If you have $xxx to blow on the router and card, fine, but recognize that you may well be doing exactly that... blowing it away. Invest instead in more reliable g-band technology from Linksys.

Works great for online gaming
Pros: First of all, I have cable but my options are limited in my condo. I had to put the router downstairs (where the cable outlet is) and my computers are upstairs. I highly recommend getting the Belkin wireless nic card (802.11n) as it picks up everything. With COD2, I have a pingrate of around 48-50. No problems accessing servers, no lag. With cable, my DL speed is around 4.8 Mbps. If you're an online gamer and you have to go wireless, get this router.
Cons: Zero.

Drops connection to the modem
Pros: Looks nice. Very simple to install. It is backward compatible with older cards. Range is good, at least for me. Had a D-Link 640 (no problems) for two years. Two computers use to say Low connection now they say very good to excellent with my older cards. If you buy the N1 PC adapter you get 300Mbits, good for Slingbox.
Cons: Drops connection once every one to two days even with upgraded firmware. The software says I have no connection when I do. Max of only 54Mbits for older cards (will not give 108Mbits although older D-Link cards have that capability). Adaptor cards are expensive, almost as much as the router itself.
Other Thoughts: I purchased a Netgear pre-N router. DOA. I purchased a Linksys pre-N router. Range was aweful.

Not the Pre-N
Pros: Some areas the coverage was better, but not at all as good as they claim. Wait until N is finished. I went back to the rock solid G
Cons: No pro's.. I have tried many of the N routers. There is a reason it's a pre-N. The distance was of in some areas, but drops signal 1 room away. Couldn't use my Vonage adapter with the unit. Tech support couldn't figure it out. Sent another router to find the same issue. Plugged back in to my WRT54G and back to square one.
I setup networks for a living, I was not happy about this model at all.
Other Thoughts: Guess we want things so fast that they ship before it's a complete product. Better luck next time... I have tested 5 Pre-N routers, and as many have pointed out it's not even close to what is advertised.

This router rocks!!!
Pros: I have gone throw 5 different n1 wireless routers and this one works. All the other routers had died ports and lost connection at random moments and I would have to restart them. This router actually works and is the fastest and has the best range out of them all
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: The T3 internet connection I bout is finely worth it.

Worth every red cent!
Pros: FAST! I've used linksys and microsoft wireless routers, eventually going back to the port due to drops. No need to utilize the software to configure this product fast! The internal configuration utility is well organized and easy for a novice to understand.
Cons: None! Price should never be a after purchase issue unless the item is junk. This router is worth every penny.
Other Thoughts: I play Final Fantasy and no other wireless system I've owned can handle the packet draw. This unit is set up in a upstairs bedroom with the computer downstairs. I also bought the Belkin N1 Wireless card with the triple dipoles just to ensure product continuity.

Excelent router, the best so far!
Pros: Worked right out of the box without any hiccups or lags, I had trouble using my Squeezebox with Linksys G + Speed Booster so I gave up and used the cable to hook it up, after a while I decided it defeated the whole purpose of buying into the Squeezebox in the first place so I went ahead and bought the N1 from Belkin thinking it's time to upgrade anyway so why not go for the next generation wireless! I'm so glad I did, everything worked fine the way I was hoping. Not only it does a fine job, it looks good and sleek as well, especially the blue front lights. I had to move it from the back and put it right on top of my PC and I was right, it gave it a new alive look. I had an amazing experience with the software as well.
Cons: I shouldn't list the price as a con like so many nerds do; a con is a malfunction in the operation of the device unlike what being advertised by the manufacturer.
Other Thoughts: That was the most unexpected upgrade I would do this year and it turned out to be the best along side to my new AMD 64 X2 4800+.

Great Product
Pros: "No-Brainer" installation. Great speed and signal stength.
Superb user interface.
Cons: Hardcopy user manual should be supplied, not just on CD.
Other Thoughts: I first installed the latest firmware from Belkin's site on my PC, and then hooked up the Router via the supplied cables to one of my PC's. I then installed the latest firmware for the matching wireless card on another PC, and the installed the PCI card itself, (I made sure to FIRMLY push the antenna cables onto the card. The connection was snug and I had no problems with it loosening up.
After powering up the router and the PC's, the router virtually set itself automatically with no problems whatsoever.
The wireless signal strength is excellent and constant acroos two floors of my large house. I'm getting download speeds of almost 30 mbs according to the "SPEAKEASY speed test" is use via the internet.
The only complaints I have are minor. One is, that I wish the user manuals were supplied via hardcopy and not just on a CD. The other is, that the antenna cable for the wireless PC Card needs to be longer to more easily place the antenna on my computer's furniture cabinet.

Like most consumer grade wireless products
Pros: Looks nice.
Cons: The lights don't coinside with what's actually goin on. For example, the wired light comes on well after establishing a wired connection.
The product worked for about two weeks and then the link between the wireless side and the wired side failed. The computer would show a successful wireless connection and I could get to the internal web site through the wired side but only three packets could be sent from the wireless access point to the card in the PC before communication would stop. Verified the same behavior on multiple computers. The same computers could access non-Belkin N1 wireless access points successfully.
The N1 card only reported a connection speed of 54Mbs until I turned off all wireless security during testing. Then it reported 300Bbs.
Exchanged the access point for a new one and experienced the same results.

Great device, needs future firmware releases
Pros: Very stylish router. Ability to function well into the future and stream quality HD content. Easy set-up, easy maintainance, oh, did I mention the great label lights on the device that let you know when someone is connected. Great for if someone tries to hack your network, you see the wireless light on and your computers are offline, that means someone else is trying to access through you.
Cons: High set-up cost. Doesn't allow for more than 54 Mbps on the older Pre-N wireless cards. THis makes me buy all brand new cards, which I'll wait for the actual 802.11N standard to finalize first.
Other Thoughts: One reviewer talked about the ports issue, I agree, but it doesn't knock the score by half since that's probably a future firmware update.

Not as powerful as everyone say so
Pros: This router work right out of the box. look very cool and slick.
Cons: Does not have the range as advertise for Draft N router does even have the speed as advertise in review on the internet. kind of disapointed that it was given such a good review and yet till unable to preform i guess Draft N is still a huge gamble.
Other Thoughts: i have to merge my linksys router with this N1 router in order to extend the coverage area. making it a very confusing for laptop wireless adapter to because i have to set both this acesss point with the same ssid

Awesome Router
Pros: This router is amazing. I used it to replace my a linksys wrt54gs and it has performed wonderfully. My existing 54G PCs are now much faster and the N1 PCs are faster still. The range is easily double that of my previous router even while in 54 G mode. A+
Cons: Price is a little high

Good performance, poor config. options.
Pros: Does the job I was looking for, eliminates dead spots and slow connections and poor transfer speeds on the computers in my house. Very fast and high bandwidth.
Cons: Very, and I mean VERY basic setup options and configuration choices. It's like they forgot to put in an "Advanced" tab. (although setup was fairly easy)
Also, only 10 TOTAL slots available for address forwarding for your games/apps. Will not allow you to assign groups of ports to a single application.
Other Thoughts: Great performance, great for a casual user. Only 10 slots available for NAT knocks the score down by half. I play lots of games and having to delete and re-enter ports all the time is a royal pain. Unacceptable. I will be getting a new router as soon as one is available with the same speeds and performance.

Exceptional router, works with any adapters
Pros: Simply the best router for typical home user. Signal strength and speed exceeds output from any other non-Belkin router in the same price range. Setup is so simple, it's just a shock for people who previously had misfortune fighting L, D, and N products just to make them work. I didn't have any problems of any kind using this router with conventional "G" class wireless adapters, just make sure encryption keys are the same and network IDs are correct. So, I only have one Belkin Pre-N adapter, but 6 other wireless adapters (all from Newegg.com), based on RaLink2500, including one USB Zonet ZEW2500. I din't notice any real life difference between them, which contradicts findings of the previous poster. However, separate external antennas or use of USB adapter seems to be an advantage, depending upon how desktop PCs are oriented relative to the router - signal strenght may be indeed reduced if signal got to go thru PC case to reach adapter antenna...
Cons: None. I had some problems with Internet connection, but it was due to the low cable signal. As soon as outside portion of the cable was replaced with the new one, all problems were gone.
Other Thoughts: Buy excellent (obviously, MIMO-based) router, like this one, and use it with inexpensive wireless "G" adapters from other decent manufacturers. This appears to be a cost effective, stable and speedy setup for residence up to 4,000 square feet, with 2-3 floors. It would normally deliver excellent quality signal with at least 20 Mbps (average 45-50, depending upon design of the building/location of wireless clients) at the distance of up to 50 yards from the router location. Highly recommended product, far superior to anything else in the same price range, very easy and fast setup.

Best router yet
Pros: Excellent coverage on a 3,000 sq/ft house throughout the entire house.
Cons: In order to get that excellent signal I had to buy the n1 wireless network cards ($110 each x4 computers)all other cards I tried couldn't keep a constant signal level.
Other Thoughts: I never tried it, but buying antenna wire and a small antenna for each of those cheaper network cards might have been a better idea since most stock antennas will have their signal blocked by the computer or small things.

Best Router on the Market
Pros: Best Range; Consistent Signal Strength; Easy Setup
Cons: It is the most expensive but worth the extra $20
Other Thoughts: After trying the Linksys SRX400 and WRT300N routers and being totally discouraged by poor performance, I decided to give another brand a try. The Belkin N1 worked right out of the box as advertised. All I did was hook up the router to the DSL modem and then to my workstation, restarted, and then ran the CD and that was it. The WiFi range and consistency of the signal is superb. I bought this router primarily to stream video to Media Center Extenders that are littered throughout the house in various rooms. I had no problem getting an "excellent signal" in several areas - both inside my home and outside on my patio. The signal was constantly strong and did not bounce around a lot like it did with the Linksys. At the time of this review, the N1 runs rings around the newest Linksys WiFi routers - at least that is my experience. I spent many days and hours trying to tweak the Linksys routers and I only spent about 15 minutes tweaking the Belkin N1 before I was satisfied with the performance

Awesome!
Pros: Great speed throughout my house(1800 sq ft) And works well with all devices, no dead spots so far
Cons: $$$$$$$$$$ Better have some $ to buy this. Also runs a little hot.
Other Thoughts: After my Linksys WRT54G fiasco, and my Netgear WGR614 that worked fine, but doubled as a heater, I can say this is the best so far!

Cons: None yet noticed.
