Rating + 5 great deal

Pros: First off I have the MT 3707, basically the same system but with a 150 100 HD. It came in NEW condition. I was impressed with the overall specs and could not pass up a low priced(refurb) laptop. the metal shell the screen clarity, light weight, battery life, and overall versatility BIG pluses

Cons: the heat on the bottom left side, and the excessive bloat ware. once you put the gateway operating system disk in and do a reinstall of Vista to remove the Bloat it seems like a fair OS but it's early and I am still tweeking, could end up with Ubuntu or XP pro on it in a couple weeks.

Other Thoughts: The Bloat ware really is the only thing that soils the deal, reload the OS and vista is almost doable, add ram for better performance. shipping was on time and fast

Rating + 4 good laptop

Pros: the screen is really nice, 14'' widescreen is perfect, pretty fast computer on VISTA with 1gb of ram, have not upgrade to 2gb yet (SHOULD though). good looking design

Cons: couple of hinges fell off within a week, like the battery lock hinge... and the round side button hinge that connects the LCD to the base of the laptop, fell off too.. but nothing important except cosmetic. Not that great at playing high graphic games, maybe i need to graphic to 2GB of ram b/c the Graphic card is taking 256mb from my 1gb

Other Thoughts: over all good laptop, except a few things that can be better, but for the price it's a really good deal!! my gf love lugg the thing everywhere!

Other Thoughts: Great laptop I got a refurbished one for 399...The best deal i've ever seen so I couldn't turn it down!

Rating + 4 Great for the price

Pros: Great price for what you get, full OS DVD for a clean install, as well as a recovery disc, decent performance for non-gamers, easy hard drive and memory upgrade access, nice looks and QUIET.

Cons: Loads of unneeded software pre-installed and set to autostart, graphics chip has proprietary vendor ID, so ATI site driver updates won't install (must use OLD drivers on Gateway download site.) XP drivers not furnished for this model online (hint: identical MX3702 system that shipped with XP has XP drivers at Gateway site.) 2.5 Vista Windows Experience score (graphics chip.) Not compatible with 64-bit OS versions.

Other Thoughts: I swapped out 2x512MB shipping memory with 2x1GB memory before booting for the first time (greatly improves performance.) Wiped drive, made 3 partitions (XP 20GB, Vista 40GB, Data 40GB) and clean-installed both OS's in a dual-boot setup. All great and fast boot times once I had installed all OS-appropriate compatible drivers for both Windows versions.

Rating + 5 Great Notebook

Pros: This is a great laptop. Paired it with Windows Xp, and it was amazing. This thing is a powerhouse. It has 128mb of dedicated video memory, and you can allocate up to 128mb more. Its Core Duo packs a punch as well. It plays Counter Strike Source perfectly. I purchased this on sale at Best Buy for $549. 4200rpm hard drive is a great battery saver. 3+ Hours. DVD-RAM drive is great. Very light for a 14.1" laptop, rivals my old NC4000 at just 0.8lbs heavier.

Cons: Left speaker blew out about a week after I bought it. Sluggish 4200rpm hard drive.

Other Thoughts: Gateway technical support are great. Very helpful, and they replaced my speaker in 4 business days, and payed for everything, including shipping. Runs great on 1gb, but will upgrade to 2 soon. And, if you want real performance, got to a 7200rpm hard drive.* But it will void your warranty.

Rating + 4 average notebook

Pros: Good price. Dual core. 1GB memory. SD memory card reader for digital cameras. A lot faster than my computer from 2000 that cost $2,500. Does everything I need in a laptop for web browsing and instant messaging

Cons: Video system consumes about 250MB so you really only have 750MB of memory available. It's sad really, because the video accelleration doesn't seem to do much good in any games I've tried. Counter-strike and geometry wars are unplayable even if you turn all the settings down to minimum. It may be a driver or vista issue. The screen is glossy which means lots of glare in bright rooms. The screen is surprisingly fuzzy and the color is terrible. I mean, you stop noticing it after awhile, but if you compare it to other LCD's you notice the difference immediately. Installed with lots of bloatware that had to be uninstalled. No CF card support for digital SLR's so I'll have to get a card reader. No biggie. System tends to get warm on your lap even when idle. I assume because the Intel core duo is not quite as advanced as core 2 duo.

Other Thoughts: Maybe I should have gone for a different brand in the $800-$1000 price range but I don't _really_ need to use a laptop that often. It's fine for web browsing, IM, office, burning DVD's, etc.

Upgrading it to 2GB when I have the time should be a cheap and easy processes.

Rating + 5 so far so great

Pros: I replaced the memory right out of the box, from 1 gig, to the max supported (2gig).Vista runs very smoothly on this little beauty. As far as Im concerned, this is turning out to be a great laptop.

Cons: none so far!

very well with Vista. No problems

Rating + 5 Great quality , Best prices

Pros: I got such a bargin for this laptop. It works so great! It is so lightweight, small, and has all the features I need for workuse and personal use. I compare prices from other stores, but for the same exact model, I saved so much buying it from Newegg.

Cons: I can't think of any. My friend recently purchased a similar laptop for $1000 while mine was half the cost.

Other Thoughts: They have great customer service.

Rating + 4 Good overall

Pros: At first was a bit iffy about getting this laptop but turns out to be pretty good.

Cons: Battery sucks as with most laptops, only about 2~2.5 hours when in power saver mode and 1.25 hours in high performance mode. 1GB RAM is decent is sufficient for vista but 2GB is much better. Vista sucks in all its glory but can be made bearable with some minor tweaks.

Other Thoughts: ATI Radeon Xpress 200m graphics card has a default dedicated memory of 64mb but it can be changed to 128mb by entering the bios and changing the value. At first was a bit iffy about getting this laptop but turns out to be pretty good. Also mine came with a different HD (Hitachi 5400rpm 160gb.

Rating + 4 Nice overall package and performance

Pros: Duo-core Pentium processor for the price of Celeron processor from other manufacturers; nice bright screen despite the glare; stable wirless connection; decent sounding speakers; dual layer DVD burner; nice cosmetics and relatively light weight; smaller footprint than a typical 15.4 in. screen laptops.

Cons: Flimsy keyboard; 4200 rpm parallel ATA HD slower than SATA HD (Gateway obviously skimped here); ATI graphics card handled DVD movies fine but seemed to be sluggish with VISTA's overall graphics demand; 1G RAM not enough to run VISTA premium adequatley; Express card virtually useless and lack of PCMCIA slot means I can't use my pc card based firewire adapter; no built-in fw port; what a hassle trying to get XP drivers; it's just not worth the effort trying to install Windows XP.

Other Thoughts: Mine came with a bigger 160g HD and faster Duo-Core T2080 processors for $650 incl. tax, S&H. That makes a bargain despite the shortcomings. 2G RAM is a must to run that bloated piece of c**p VISTA.

Rating + 5 Gateway mt3705 laptop

Pros: Very Good Laptop, The ati radeon delivers crisp image on the 14 inch screen, amazing video quality for movies, games and images, comes with a manuel wi-fi switch, the wirless connection is very good and easy to use, very light i mean light laptop, very easy to carry, can hold it with 3 fingers without a flinch,a good hard drive, and the pc speed is very good, a nice 1gb ddr chip, have had it for 3 months so far and im enjoying it

Cons: windows vista and all the nonsense it comes with(it can always be re-installed with a fresh start, or just put win xp on it), the sound is poor( good with headphones or just buy speakers)

Other Thoughts: good laptop, espacially for the price, gateways tech support is ok and it comes with a gateway warranty wich is reliable

Rating + 3 Average computer for average price

Pros: Good price. Dual core. 1GB memory. SD memory card reader for digital cameras. A lot faster than my computer from 2000 that cost $2,500.

Cons: Video system consumes about 250MB so you really only have 750MB of memory. The screen is glossy which means lots of glare in bright rooms. A completely white background on the screen is surprisingly fuzzy and the color is terrible. I'm not sure why. Installed with lots of bloat ware that had to be uninstalled.

No CF card support for digital SLR's so I'll have to get a card reader. No biggie.

Other Thoughts: I should have gone for a different brand in the $800-$900 price range but I don't _really_ need to use a laptop that often.

Rating + 4 No sound in Linux, otherwise good

Pros: Looks great, good price (five ninety-nine when Vista just came out), lightweight, great performance in Linux, very impressive battery life. Vista is pretty snappy if you do a complete reinstall right away and you've got ReadyBoost. Stays cool and quiet as long as you don't smother the fan opening in the back of the left side, but even if you do it doesn't get too bad.

Cons: SOUND DOES NOT WORK IN LINUX! It's the hardware (SigmaTel STAC9200) - it seems nobody can get it to work in Linux and the new manufacturer (IDT - they bought SigmaTel) isn't helping like most hardware companies. Vista was completely bloated and slow before reinstall, XP was virtually unusable even after all drivers were found (which was not easy) and installed - hardware interrupts stole 30-50% of the processor time. I'm still bitter that I wasted my XP license key on it. USB ports are not well placed, ExpressCard slot is worthless - the selection of ExpressCards is sparse and much more expensive than PCMCIA.

Other Thoughts: Partitioned drive into thirds - NTFS Vista, ext3 Ubuntu, and FAT32 data. Decent graphics performance in Linux - installed Neverwinter Nights and it runs pretty nicely. Bought a set of USB headphones from Newegg, and now I hardly ever boot into Vista, even though I bought a 2GB SD card just for ReadyBoost because it fits so nicely out of sight in the card reader. HDD is only 4200RPM, but it doesn't seem slower than my 5400RPM drive in another laptop.

Rating + 5 Not bad at all

Pros: For the price this is a very good laptop. The comment on not having interchangeable "GO" video card from the guy below is crazy; double the price you like to pay and you get this feature.

Cons: Need to upgrade to 2 GB memory; This is true for all laptop with share video memory using Vista. I wish it had TV video out.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded to 2 GB PC2 5300 running at 333 mhz (G.skill) since memory price came down lately. Yes, the onboard video could be better. But, this laptop is not meant for games.
