Incredible computer
Pros: worth every cent. Fantastic computer, for on the go, or for at-home work. Very good graphics, great for games - i've tryed crysis, gets good fps. Awsome touch sencer buttons above the keyboard that lets you turn on turbo mode and stuff - so cool. Looks nice too. Not really any keyboard flex and the w, a, s, and d keys are marked with arrows. Pretty good audio and the finger-mouse pad thing works great. Good buy for sure.
Cons: Honestly i can't find anything wrong with the thing!
Other Thoughts: none.

Great, but not perfect
Pros: I won't write any pro's because if you're reading this, you already know all of them.
Cons: The con's, the only things I personally dislike about this laptop is the flexing of the laptop, the easy smugging of finger prints, and the fact that I had my laptop delivered with a blown right speaker.

I could not be happier with this laptop
Pros: Powerful hardware - 9800 GS has taken anything I have thrown at it
Screen - 1680x1050 looks wonderful, blu-ray especially. Some glare when outdoors, but nothing unmanageable.
Turbo and ECO functions - While I initially was skeptical, both of these functions are wonderful. The turbo function (set to 20% in the BIOS) makes a notifiable difference in framerates and encoding speeds. The ECO functions (5 levels) are quick presets and Turbo Battery nearly doubled my battery life (almost 5 hours toting it around with Wi-Fi on). Playing DVD's averages about 2.5 hours.
The one-touch buttons (play/pause ect) actually work with most applications, and the user set button is awesome.
Heat - I played Crysis with the Turbo on for over 3 hours and I could still set it on my bare legs and hardly notice the heat at all. The vent on the right however does get warm (go figure).
Overall this is a great buy, I have not been disappointed, nor do I think you will be either.
Cons: The brushed aluminum and one-touch button pad are mild fingerprint magnets. Easily cleanable with your shirt or some other handy cloth.
The blue lit one-touch buttons with red/black color scheme seems odd for a while.
The speakers are a little tinny and lack a full sound, but it comes with 7.1 audio out, so all your problems are solved.
Other Thoughts: After doing considerable research for laptops and settling on this, I was expecting a few issues that others had mentioned, specifically After doing considerable research for laptops and settling on this, I was expecting a few issues that others had mentioned, specifically a wobbly keyboard and clock down issues off of AC. I havent experienced either of these or any other major flaws.
My keyboard was solid and feels wonderful to type on, the Fn keys and Ctrl keys are swapped, which took some getting used to, but if it really bothers you there is a BIOS revision which swaps the function of the two keys.
As for clockdown, I was able to play blu-ray movies flawlessly in the "Movie" eco mode, and most games (CS:S, WoW) played fine in the "Gaming" eco mode (albeit not terribly long, but that is to be expected with any laptop)
The case and construction feels solid and has actually already survived a counter height fall with flying colors.
I definitely recommend this laptop to an

Pros: this lappy is GREAT. Excellent components for the price. It is very quiet, does not get too hot, it is the perfect size for someone who wants a computer with afterburners, but not with a huge wide screen.
Cons: none so far
Other Thoughts: loaded up win 7 right away, and it blazes on this thing. Downloaded the drivers from msi's website, though most everything is plug n play. I see the keyboard flex everyone is talking about however this is not a problem, just takes about 5 minutes of getting used to. Great laptop

Work of art
Pros: I was torn between getting this laptop and the ASUS G50VT-X6. It was a really tough decision, but I decided to go with this one since I like the design and look of the MSI better. Also, the ASUS wouldn't have fit in my back pack since the dimensions of it are closer to a 16'' or 17'' due to them expanding the border/casing of the laptop.
When all is said and done, this laptop just looks and feels like a work of art. It runs everything very fast and smoothly; my games have never looked or played better.
Another thing worth mentioning is newegg's delivery service. I ordered this laptop Wednesday afternoon and it was at my house Thursday afternoon; it got to my doorstep within a 24 hour time period! Now that's quick!
Cons: Only one slight con. This comes with 32 bit Vista so it can't utilize that extra gig of ram that this laptop has. I plan on upgrading this to Windows 7 when it's officially released (possibly the 64 bit version, but only if Cisco fixes the compatibility issue with the VPN client, oy).
I may/not have more cons after using this a bit more. I highly doubt it, but we'll see what happens.
Other Thoughts: I took the advice of the previous buyer and adjusted the Turbo button to overclock the processor speed from 15% to 20%. I may consider "flashing" the video card, but I may not need to.
All in all, I am very happy with my purchase and especially happy with the speed at which this laptop was delivered to my house. Thanks, newegg!

The Laptop is stellar
Pros: Super Fast- I have played the crisis demo on high with 1680x1050 Resolution Great Screen- The screen is high resolution and looks good, not as good as my HDTV but still good. Blu-ray- Blu-ray is great Esata- It is so much faster than USB 2.0 (Geting transfer rates 2x as high or more) Blue-Tooth- Haven't used it yet, but I will to hook up to a headset, my phone and maybe a mouse and keyboard Wireless N- Again haven't used it but it is a lot faster and has better range HDMI- I used it to hook up to my reciever and HDTV and it is great TURBO BUTTON- This button allows me overclock with a slide of my finger and make this thing even faster Other Buttons- All of the touch sensors are great Webcam- I used it last night to talk on skype and it was great. 4gb of ram - Fast Core 2 Duo P8600 - Faster 9800m GS- Even Fast Did i mention this thing is super fast.
Cons: Like other poeple have said, there is some keyboard flex but it isn't really that bad. I am using a wireless keyboard and mouse though. Only comes with 32 bit home premium, I got the ultimate steal from MS and upgraded to 64bit ultimate for only 60 bucks. It doesn't come with a restore disk (see other thoughts) You can't boot off of esata, or at least I can't becasue it doesn't reconize my drive on startup
Other Thoughts: Make sure to run the program that promps you to create a restore disk. I didn't and tried to upgrade to Ultimate and ended up wiping my hard drive and wasted 3 days getting it activated because I couldn't put Home premium back on there in order to be able to us the upgrade license key. Eventually found a work around though.
ALSO !THIS IS SUPER IMPORTANT! if you are using the turbo button, go into the bios and change the overclock percentage from the default 15% to 20% so you can get a little more performance. You can also overclock the video card because this laptop does well getting rid if the heat; I haven't yet but will soon.
This laptop is great, get it now....what are you waiting for?

Nice Rig
Pros: This machine will run anything you throw at it including the most high tech and latest games in full res. The keyboard does have a pronounced flex to it, but nothing you won't get used to. I use the computer in my office and at home. I work as an attorney, so I do a lot of typing and have found the mouse cursor to wander now and then when I inadvertently hit the mouse pad, which is set off to the left. The keyboard is a bit smaller b/c of the full number pad, but again not a big deal to me anyway. Graphics are unbelievable. Blue ray drive is awesome. So far I have been blown away by this notebook.
Cons: I just ran into a problem with the wireless card not connecting so I am about to go on MSI's tech support website and see how the service is in regard to solving this possible hardware failure.
Other Thoughts: Buy it, you won't be sorry!

Ultimate Gaming Laptop
Pros: Great Gamer - should keep you update for the next year. 9800 GS with 1GB is awesome. Bought this for Battlefield 2 and future Battlefield 1943. BF2 runs on all high settings 102fps. SOlid performer. Screen resolution is awesome and really comes in handy sniping. The fan blows heat on your mouse hand, not too bad. Laptop cooler recommended for extended gaming.
Cons: Keyboard flex is there but not bad. I'm use to it now. Also the WSAD keys have there own arrows on them. Kind of nice.
Other Thoughts: Wanted something that had the specs to last at least two years. Spent a little more but I'm glad to have the higher resolution screen, 1GB Video Ram and Blu-ray drive.

MSI Growth Pains
Pros: Nice looking Case, Fairly well constructed. Keyboard Flexing Minimal on this Lappy{#2} Explain in Cons! Keyboard layout excellent, soft touch controls work great, Screen resolution Impressive, Turbo Mode works, on the fly when needed. O/C,s 16% OEM 2398Mhz OC,d= 2779Mhz OK, for the Gaming /Video Performance! She took everything I gave her, at full settings with or W/O OCing without a Hiccup or degradation in performance! Quake4, Crysis Series, DF, etc. This lappy vents the heat well, as long as it gets good air flow, and this puppy gets hot! But the GPU and the CPU,s stayed steady. NO THERMAL ISSUES! MSI has always been great for their MB,s Never had a bad build using them, always great features {If your a modder}, They designed this MB to accommodate the supporting HW, and produce a nice symbionic relationship between the 2 for a High Performance Lappy that Has my respect in regards to Desktop Performance in a Mobile Environment
Cons: 1st unit arrived fast from NE, Hardware failures right outa the box, keyboard flex on that early model much more pronounced! NE RMA,d It NP. They replaced to me a new unit, NE,s the Greatest! After 2 days BIOS became unstable, I flashed with their most recent Fix[not even on website yet] which equates to great tech support, they E-mailed it to me! Also immediately download and install the latest drivers for the GPU, File comes with the PHYSX controller, The Video Card really comes to life then!! Main Gripe: Lappy system is very software sensitive, But I think its because of Vista OS, I came very close to reformatting the HDD and installing XP Pro or Linux. Also No control over Dram timing or FSB, Multiplier locked! WHY? MSI has never done this B4, earlier BIOS files[4 this Lappy] had the DRAM timing selection options, But not on the recent BIOS revisions!!??? Guess they dont want us pushing it the edge. Should have choice of OS install, instead of 1 flavor!
Other Thoughts: Over clocking feature only works with AC adapter connected, No OCing in Battery Mode, and you must have the System Control Manager program installed and enabled or NO OC features! Over ALL, Not a bad lappy after massaging it. Runs fast and strong! A little Over Priced! But With Intel and NVidia ingredients installed I see why! Other MSI gaming series use AMD and ATI. Lower Hardware cost. Always been a AMD man. But this Intel processor Rocks!! This lappy has made me a Gamer with skills once again, cause the resolution and clarity is outstanding, with frame rates that dont slow down. JMO though!!

Great gaming laptop
Pros: - Great gaming laptop for the price - Feels solid and sturdy. - Played Crysis, CoD4, Fallout 3, WoW @ max and it was very smooth, so it's very impressive for a laptop of this price. - Not too heavy, great design, great screen (resolution) - Looks way better IRL than on the pictures - Great service by NewEgg - The keyboard goes well, the keys are big enough and doesn't feel cheap. The numpad on the right is a good extra! - Works well with Windows 7 if you know where to take the drivers - Great backpack. - Overclock @ your fingertips.
Cons: - Comes with Vista 32 bits while it has 4 go. Should come with Vista 64 bits. - Apparently, many people complained about the touchpad being somehow cheap with the coating showing some wearing-off very rapidly. This is only an aesthetic problem. I always use a mouse while using my laptop. - Always need to use the screen protector before closing the laptop. It's great they mention it, but this is a problem in the build design. - You have to make yourself the restoration CDs (no Windows DVDs coming in the package, only blank DVDs on which you copy the infos on the restoration partition... an application does it for you). - Will warm your right hand a lot.
Other Thoughts: - Can't complain that I can't game on the battery : it's evident the battery would never last long enough to play reasonably. - I don't feel the keyboard flex many people talked about. Everything is smooth with the keyboard, and it's not awkward at all! - NewEgg.ca did a price reduction of 65.00$ the day after I bought it and credited the 65.00$ back to my credit card, so great service! - I write it on the .com site as the item is now deactivated on newegg.ca

Good Value
Pros: Decent processor, very fast video card, 7200rpm hard drive, slim profile. Runs farcry 2 quite well. Brushed aluminum looks great. chassis looks okay, but not as good as I thought it would. One-touch overclocking makes up for the processor quite well, and the screen is GINORMOUS. 9 cell battery, which lasts 3:30 hours. Possibly more with MSI's super battery saver mode. Keys do have flex which everyone talks about, but that hasn't affected my touch typing at all. Fantastic integrated audio. I was surprised by how well my music sounded.
Cons: The keys are noticeably smaller. typing letters is fine, but something i get messed up which trying to hit tab, enter and symbols. The area where your right hand rests gets noticeably hotter than the left.. the probably video card. speakers are ridiculously weak.
You can't blame MSI for this, but: the slim 1.2 inch depth in the specifications is a little ruined by the fact that there are nubs on the bottom of the laptop, tilting the back end up a noticeable amount. But I mean, the 9800m gs is usually on 17 inchers and up
Other Thoughts: Overall, I'm quite satisfied. Not a 4, but not a perfect. something in between, but leaning closer to the 5 than the 4. Performance is killer in nearly every aspect(I'm looking at you, 32-bit vista), and the touch buttons actually have a very nice glow to it. The black brushed aluminum is great, but some of the other aesthetics of the laptop feel... lacking. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this laptop if you're looking for a solid, yet (modestly) compact gaming laptop.

NEED HELP with BLU RAY Drive
Pros: All
Cons: Some
Other Thoughts: Ok, I bought Taken on blu ray and it will not play. I have Corel windvd 9 plus and when it tries to load it says that my blu ray play needs to be updated.. I went to sonys website to DL the firmware but it does not work. The flash starts then says it fails. No information is given why it will not work.
Anyone else have this issue?

Great gaming laptop, almost perfect
Pros: I wanted a gaming rig to replace my Dell e1705, my basic requirements were high end nvidia 9 series card, 15" LCD, 4G of RAM and 7200 rpm drive.
I have installed Windows 7 RC and the system runs pretty nice, I have tried World of Warcraft (60fps most places, and about 25-30fps in Shattrah City).
The LCD is pretty nice, and it runs about 3 hours on battery if you run with balance/power saver options, I have tried to run WoW on battery and it's do-able, though it will be slower than AC mode.
I tried Planet Earth BD, and it was rather nice. No hickups.
Cons: Now to the cons:
- It gets somewhat hot in normal or turbo mode on the right hand side of the touchpad, I am unsure what's located there (HD or Video Card), I have laptop cooler but the fans are toward the top (have to try a different one to see if it makes any difference.
- I have not noticed the keyboard flex, but it does take a little bit to get used to this, they could have probably got rid of the numpad area and make the keys a bit bigger, but then again if you're a gamer, you can use the numpad area for gaming keyboard.
- they could have added more USB connectors (though no biggie with a 4 ports USB hub which run pretty cheap these days)
Other Thoughts: Overall, I would rate this laptop as 4.5 eggs, newegg does not allow for half rating, and I think this laptop deserves more than 4 alone.
Basically if you're looking for a good gaming laptop that is in the 15" range, you can't go wrong with this.

Good deal
Pros: I'm a programmer and mainly used this laptop for work. I have been looking for a high performance laptop with affordable price. This gaming laptop is just what I need. I do play one game, Team Fortress 2.
- Performance is great. For all the application I use such as Visual Studio, Photoshop and the only game I play (TF2 all settings to max) it feels as fast as my Q6600 GT8800 desktop.
- The screen is pretty good, as another reviewer mentioned, don't waste your money on the 1280x800 version. A good monitor is a good investment.
- A lot of connectivity, wireless, bluetooth, firewire, card reader
- Speakers are loud
- Love the brushed aluminum finishing
- Bluray is a bonus
- Full NumPad!!!
Cons: - My biggest beef about this laptop is it has Vista 32 installed. It just doesn't make sense. Fortunately I have a Vista Ultimate 64 so I installed it and downloaded all the drivers from MSI site. The overclock program is there too anad it works fine with Vista 64.
- The "Fn" key and left "Ctrl" shoudl switch place.
- The keyboard does flex a bit but I really don't notice any discomfort while using it.
- The battery life is about 3 hours. But this is a gaming laptop there will be trade-of.
Other Thoughts: I believe this is very good laptop for the money. The build quality is good and sturdy. If you are willing to pay $1300 for a laptop this is a very good candidate to consider

Sweet laptop
Pros: This laptop is great, and has everything I could want. The Video card rocks. I bought this to take to my brothers game nights, because I was tired of lugging my 54lb desktop around. This little guy plays COD4 around 120fps with all settings maxed. I have tried Crysis, HL2 E2, Fear2, and Unreal Tournament 3, and all run well on this laptop. I have also used this to run games on my 24in Acer monitor because I find it hard to see fine details in COD4 on the 15in screen. The frame rates hardly drop even while running at 1920x1200.
Cons: LCD panel seems a bit low contrast. I am probably spoiled by my big 24in acer. Seriously not a deal breaker at this price.
Other Thoughts: The flimsy or springy keyboard that others have mentioned seems not to be an issue on my laptop. In fact I think that this has been one of the more solid feeling laptop keyboards I have used.
BUY THIS

GREAT DEAL
Pros: Great laptop for the money, screen looks really good, performs better than anything else in this price range, good construction, looks better in person than the pictures. Installed 64 bit windows as soon as I got it and man this thing rips! Free carrying case isn't bad if you are comfortable wearing a metallic red backpack. Excellent package for little money. Can't seem to find the structural flaws (IE keyboard flex/weak handrest) everybody talks about in the reviews, mine is really solid! Full NUMBER PAD! I don't find the keyboard placement or touchpad placement awkward at all either unlike reviews.
Cons: None!
Other Thoughts: DO NOT GET THE $1099 version with the lower resolution screen. This screen is MUCH better!

Awesome laptop for the price
Pros: The video card is super fast for a laptop of this price. Built in overclocking is a fantastic feature, as is the blu-ray drive. Huge fan of the one-touch design for the overclocking and economy styles.
Cons: Gets a little too hot for my liking, but buying a laptop cooler solves that pretty easily. 3 USB ports seems a little stingy, but with the bluetooth, it handles itself pretty nicely.
Other Thoughts: For a desktop replacement, this is a great way to go. I get about 2 and a half hours of battery life with the laptop cooler, and with bluetooth and the sound management, it makes a great computer for ventrilo. This is a solid buy.

Would like to see some videos....
Pros: From what I have seen and looked into, everything!!! My real thoughts are in the other thought's area..... This is what I would really like to see....
Thanks...
Cons: Yes, keyboard seems flimsy, but seems like that is not an issue at all.
As I have yet to buy this, I really can't say much....
Other Thoughts: I would really like to see people post some vids of this machine in action! I am "this" close to buying this machine, but really want to see some vids of this playing WoW and other games. I looked on U tube but did not find anything.
Can anyone help?

Portable Powerhouse
Pros: -Quite the upgrade from my single core Athlon desktop. -For so long I was torn between having the convenience of a laptop and the brute power of a gaming desktop, and this rig offers the best of both. High-end DX10 games such as F.E.A.R. 2, CoD:World at War, Assassins Creed, and Bioshock are no sweat for this machine on a 1680x1050 resolution. However, I found myself scaling back graphics settings just below Ultra High on Crysis and FarCry 2. -Went out and bought Planet Earth on BluRay and hooked it up to my HDTV, I was blown away by the intense visual and audio quality. -When I'm out and about I am able to squeeze about four hours of battery life out of this box of perfection while checking emails and surfing the web. -The price point cannot be beat with the amount of features packed into the sleek and discreet form factor.
Cons: -Ships with 32 bit Vista, but in less than an hour I did away with the partitions, installed Vista Ultimate x64, and hunted down 64 bit drivers to get everything working again. - I feel somewhat unlclear as to what additional accessories and software I need for the TV tuner to work.
Other Thoughts: -Bios settings may be changed to alter the Turbo overclock function from a boost 15%(2.77ghz) to 20%(2.872ghz). -Running under full load with Folding@Home SMP client for the CPU, and the GPU client together at the same time causes hardware to idle around 160 Fahrenheit, but turns out a rather insane workload. - As my second purchase from Newegg, I remain completely satisfied with their speedy processing and delivery, and am glad that my own personal research and decision making paid off. As I am transitioning from a student into an IT professional, I am sure this fine piece of technology will prove itself a worthy investment, and will perform as called upon for several years down the road.

Glad I decided to buy it
Pros: Runs everything better than my desktop that I've just recently rebuilt. Also it's quiet, I love this fact the most. HDMI works great, video and sound out is great. I thought at first it would only do video but when i heard the sound come through, I was amazed. The laptop even changes over to hdmi sound settings automatically.
Cons: It gets hot? The side vent maybe would of been better if it faced out towards the back instead. If youre using a mouse, look forward to some sweaty hands. The power brick does get extremely hot too. I touched it once without noticing and it made me jump. Its not enough to really burn you but if you dont pay attention to it and accidently touch it, you'll get a nice suprise.
Other Thoughts: I bought the laptop to do some traveling but its not really travel friendly without full power. Its ok to do small stuff like watch movies and whatever else you can do other than gaming. If you plan to do some gaming on the go without a plugged in power source though, good luck on getting clean smooth gameplay.
As for the touch pad, Ive never been a fan of touch pads so I'm glad theres a fn key to turn it off which i do all the time.
Theres a lot more I can say about this laptop but It would be too much so all I can really say is Its definitely worth spending the extra $ for this one. I orginally was going to buy the cheaper lower model version but knew I would regret it someday so I bought this one and I'm pretty satisfied and glad I purchased this one instead.

question
Pros: can someone send me the crazytalk cam suite that came with the laptop on default? i can't seem to find it anywhere. this is an excellent laptop by the way.
Cons: msi doesn't offer the crazytalk cam suite software on their website.
Other Thoughts: i can't seem to find the software for the usb 2.0 camera

More than I expected
Pros: Power, gaming ability, usefullness. This thing is all I was looking for and a bit more. Fast, great resolution and an awesome price. Ney sayers say ney, this is a better product than it is represented as. If you are one half computer smart you can deal with the partition and if you study the idea of partions and sata drives you will understand why it is loaded this way.
Cons: The only thing I can speak on and it was probably my fault... I laid the charging brick next to me in the bed and after a few hours of gaming it was hot enough to almost burn the wife when she unknowling hit it in her sleep. No harm after her initial slap to me... but it may have burned her a bit.
Other Thoughts: Keyboard flex is no issue to me. I dont pound the keyboard to begin with and I know why it is like that (actual construction) so I am not worried about it all.

best bang for the buck..
Pros: - Lots of features (everything I was looking for in a laptop): -Gaming capable video card (runs last generation games without any problem) -High Speed CPU and 4gb RAM -Blueray drive (DVDRW combo) -full keyboard on a 15 inch laptop -integrated webcam and mic -HDMI port -ExpressCard Port -ESata Port
- Additional MSI goodies: -Overclocking support (Turbo) (this actually works) -Different power settings (ECO)
- PRICE!!!!!!!: I did a lot of research before deciding on which laptop to purchase, and this is what best fitted my needs and had the best price out there. If you're like me and want to get the most feature rich, gaming capable laptop for a good price I recommend you consider this laptop.
Cons: This is a great laptop but here are the cons that I've found so far (not deal breakers for me):
-Left CTRL key and Fn Key have been switched: This is probably the biggest con that I've found so far cause it bothers me while gaming. I dont know why MSI decided to switch these 2 keys but I'ts giving me a hard time when trying to crouch in most games that use the LEFT CTRL key for that purpose. Usually LEFT CTRL should be the first key to the left on the last row, but on this laptop the first key on that row is the Fn (function) key. Then comes the CTRL key. I'm getting kinda used to it now, but it couldve been perfect.
- Sensitive Touch Pad: Sometimes within a game I find myself firing my gun involuntarily because my left thumb comes close to the touchpad (I dont even feel my thumb touching it). Remember this is a 15 inch laptop so there is not a lot of space from the keyb to the touchpad.
- Low volume mic: This is related to realtek's drivers. but on some apps works ok. - Get
Other Thoughts: Overall I'm very happy with this purchase and I would totally recommend it to anyone looking for a feature rich/latest technology/gaming capable/15 inch laptop for a good price. It packs a lot of power inside such a compact model. Couple of comments on some cons ive read: -keyb does NOT seem springy to me. -2 partitions can be easily fixed in vista. Ok now what you all want to know. how does it perform gaming wise.. I gotta say.. it gets the job done. This will run any current generation computer game without any problem.. some of them on high settings and native resolution (1680x1050) . others at mid settings. Here are some examples of the games that I run on this laptop (i dont have the actual framerates yet, but I have tuned every game to a point where the game is fluid enough for me without any lag):
-FarCry2 : Native Res / Everything on High -Left 4 dead: Native Res / Everything on High -Gears of War: 1440x900 / Everything on High -Crysis: 1440x900 / Everythin

great computer for the pirice
Pros: great speed. 1. activated game mode and tried 3dmark 2006. scored more than 8500 with the provided video drivers. downloaded the latest drivers and it went even higher. play warcraft at highest setting. i am going to try other games later. 2. 4gigs of ram the system uses 3 and the nvidia card shares the other gig. 3. nice large hard drive. 4. screen looks great. 5. use turbo button to overclock to 2.77ghz. 6. uses magnets to keep the lid closed.
Cons: 1. needing to use the sponge protector everytime you close the laptop lid. 2. hard drive had 3 partitions. deleted the larger one and extended the c drive to make one large drive. 4. not loading the blue ray player at the factory. had to install myself. easy fix. 5. key placement on keyboard. takes a little getting used to. gripe really not a true problem. 6. keyboard flex. i am going to try the doublesided tape others have used. 7. wish the heat vent was on the other side. it blows hot air directly on to your mouse and hand. and when you have game mode or turbo on it gets a little warm on the hand. gripe really. 8. after recieving the laptop downloaded
Other Thoughts: overall. this laptop is exactly what i wanted. a nice budget gaming laptop. screen had no defects. very little light around the edges for dark scenes. but so far going thru pc mark and other testing software the wd hard drive performs as expected and the everything works the way they should. i was extremely pleased with newegg and how quick i got the laptop.

WONDERFUL for the first month
Pros: *Perfect for students that love to game. *I upgraded to Vista 64-bit, and it runs great. *Can play Crysis on High quality with physics maxed (slightly glitchy. If played on Medium with physics maxed, really smooth) *Vista rating: *Processor - 5.3 *RAM - 5.9 *Graphics - 5.9 *Gaming Graphics - 5.8 *HDD - 5.5 *When on battery, can get almost 4 hours. *Has number pad *Comes with nice-looking laptop backpack which works fine for school (unless you are toting around 5 classes worth of books)
Cons: *Backpack started tearing at shoulder and between shoulders after first month *The material around the screen started buckling after a month, leading to it cracking at the corner!
Other Thoughts: There were other cons, but those are mostly covered by other reviews. These two cons were really bad. I am a very careful person and take good care of my things. I can understand the backpack ripping...who gives a really high quality backpack for free...but I can't forgive the crack. Maybe if I wasn't careful in handling it, I would, but I am extremely careful. This buckling and crack happened just through normal use. I don't pay $1300 to get a laptop from a company that claims to make high-quality equipment and expect to see a crack that quickly. If it wasn't for that, I would have given this laptop 6/5 eggs! I have absolutely loved it. It still works great, but I don't want a crack.

Good value with only minor stumbles
Pros: As listed in other reviews, it has all the makings of a fantastic gaming machine. Good graphics card, lots of memory, descent sound card, dual core processor, lots of disk space on a fast drive, fast ethernet, wireless, bluetooth, bluray, 9 cell battery... I'm sure I'm missing some too.
Cons: Screen is a bit small for full time gaming. Speakers are very weak. Some software needs to be installed and others need to be removed.
Other Thoughts: Other reviewers have noted the keyboard flexes when you type. I have found that it does as well, but when I don't think about it, I tend not to notice and it doesn't bother me. If your picking this laptop for gaming, the built in speakers are not loud and you'll need to scare up a better set.
OVERALL: Good laptop and I'm impressed with it so far.

amazing
Pros: MSI GT627-218US, if this was a woman i would marry her and never complain about anything.
Cons: I've read other owners cons on this machine and find them laughable compared to what this machine accomplishes. there are 0 cons with this gaming war machine
Other Thoughts: this should have cost alot more... ;)

Huge Battery, Awkward Keyboard
Pros: Great Specs
Cons: Battery supplied doesn't fit flush with the back of the laptop. So I can't fit it into my laptop bag without removing the battery! The case and keyboard flexes significantly and the keyboard is extremely awkward to use due to its small size. The mouse buttons are already showing signs of wear. The hard disk fast but noisy. The power button makes the laptop look cheap. The supplied cover for the keyboard has to be used to stop the screen scratching, thats a clear design flaw!
Other Thoughts: Great shipping from NewEgg but unfortunately I am regretting my purchase.

WOW! More impressed than I thought I'd be!
Pros: Incredibly fast! Blu Ray, 9800GS w 1 gig DDR3, OK HDD space and great CPU
very quiet for being so powerful
sense buttons are very reactive and handy
The sound card will auto detect what you plug in using the same jacks, ex: headphones vs 5.1 or 7.1 system, very smart
Turbo does really work!
weights virtually nothing compared to other gaming laptops
Cons: NO DVI OUT! this really sucks, there is D-SUB but no DVI? such a high end video card and theres no DVI out! has HDMI out and RGB, figure that one out! It really suck when you want to plug into a normal LCD monitor and you have to get a HDMI to DVI adapter or cable.
speakers are a joke but were they really meant to be anything more?
keyboard flex, yes it's substantial but nothing to really worry about
windows vista? I decided to try it out this time, and really, once you turn off most of the garbage its pretty solid
The track pad is ok, but the buttons are very hard to push because they are brushed aluminum made out of the top of the chasis, stylish but not useful
Screen is a little dim on highest setting but not too bad, i dont notice the color distortion some others point out
Other Thoughts: BUY THIS THING! and not the other $1000 version, it can only do 1280x and that is just a waste!
F.E.A.R. @ 1680x and maxxed gets the lowest 30 frames, and that's amazing
BF2142 @ 1680x maxxed and 60-100 frames
there hasn't been a game that made this thing choke
but make sure to use GAME MODE and not just turbo, a world of difference!
for people ranting about the partitions, one is for the OS, leave all your apps but games on there, that's fine
you basically have a 250 gig storage drive
yes, the keyboard does flex and the layout sucks a little, but if you look on google video, there is a fix that doesnt void your warranty
for bang for buck this is an incredible value and much less gimmicky than those ugly xps and alienware things

Powerful hardware for the money
Pros: Big screen with high resolution. Powerful video card. Fast hard drive. Quiet. Slick touch panel. Blu-Ray player. Sturdy construction. Good battery life.
Cons: Num pad. Extra "\" key next to space bar. Mouse buttons are stiff. Keyboard flexes if press a little too hard. Huge power brick.
Other Thoughts: This is a great priced laptop for all the features and the ability to play games. I've searched dozens of gaming laptops before I settle on this one. The keyboard is a bit smaller than other laptops I've used only because they squeezed in a num pad (could live without), I got use to it quickly. The extra "\" key next to the space bar is a waste, because there's one right above the "Enter" key and it made the space bar smaller. It would be a plus if they added proximity sensor to the touch pad. Sometime when I type I can accidently tap it and take focus away from what I was doing. I do like the size and weight, it's just right for a gaming laptop compared to other competitors with similar feature. Performance has been great, depends on the game but I can play them from medium to high quality. It does run a little hot if turbo mode is enabled, make sure you have a laptop cooler. Low shipping from Newegg rocks!

Excellent Value
Pros: -Performance: for the price the performance and options can't be beat. The HDD is wicked fast, hdparm measures the speed @ 79MBps. -Build Quality: mechanically everything feels rock solid. The hinge is very sturdy and the magnetic lock is a nice touch. The drives/fan run quite. -Design: From the brushed aluminum to the metal flake accents to the way the touch button lights fade to black the design says quality while being minimalistic. (I'm not sure why most other gaming laptops have to be so gaudy and obnoxious). -Excellent Linux Compatibility: Everything, save for the Eco/Turbo buttons and the modem, work out-of-the-box with Linux. -Screen: the screen is bright and the colors are gorgeous, the glare isn't as bad as I thought it might be. -Battery Life: I get several hours of wireless web browsing/movie viewing off a full charge. Standby time is excellent, you can go several days with the system suspended to RAM.
Cons: -Vista. -A 32-bit O/S on a system with 4GB of RAM. -The speakers, while sounding good, aren't very loud. -There is a bit of keyboard flex. Not a deal-breaker but rather odd in contrast to the high quality of the rest of the unit. -The "Warranty Void" sticker is placed across the RAM and HDD access panels. So no upgrades within the first year without voiding the warranty. -Under heavy load the palm rests become noticeably, but not uncomfortably, warm.
Other Thoughts: Other comments have noted the poor performance in Windows on battery; it should be noted that the performance is completely tunable. The default settings are to maximize battery life - which is done very well. But if you insist on gaming on battery the settings are adjustable.
The Turbo function will work under Vista 64-bit, just download and install MSI's SCM software from their site.
PowerTweak indicates that the maximum supported module size is 4GB and the total supported RAM is 8GB so this unit should be upgradable when high performance 4GB modules are released.

Pros: nice video card, and beautiful screen, blu-ray drive, built-in overclock, touch sensor stuff, back pack
Cons: keyboard is a bit weird to get used to. the numpad is really unnecessary.
Other Thoughts: when you first open the cover there is a mat that protects the screen from getting scratched against the keyboard. be careful when you replace the cover of the sd media reader. mine got stuck and the only way to get it out is to opem up the laptop.

Impressed
Pros: - Build Quality is excellent - Plays all my games at the high to highest settings - Excellent Looking Display - Blu-Ray Works and Looks Good - Suprisingly light and thin considering the hardware - Doesn't seem to get hot (just a bit warm)when playing games. - No bloatware, only extra progams is norton anti-virus, and trial version of Office Student Edition.
Overall my initial impressions of the MSI GT627-218us is very positive. For the money, the feature set is excellent, and this laptop plays and runs like something I should have paid much more money for. Some Games and their settings for those who are curious. (Settings include the Turbo Function On) Empire: Total War - 1680x1050, High setting , runs perfectly Fallout 3: 1680x1050, High setting, Runs Perfectly Company of Heros, 1680x1050, DX10, mix High and Medium settings, runs perfectly Civilization 4, 1680x1050, high settings, runs perfectly
Those are the games I was worried about and they run like a dream.
Cons: - Keyboard - Blu-Ray Drivers not preinstalled (however the disc was provided, not a big deal, more of an observation) - Must Be plugged into AC to use all the power available. - size is larger than a typical 15" laptop
There is very little to say negative about the computer other than the laptop. There is some flex in the keyboard, so if you type hard it might be annoying, this is easily fixed with some double sided tape. Also some of the key placement is odd (like the ctrl. and fn. buttons are opposite from what you normally see in keyboards). Some keys are smaller than normal as well, so making keystroke errors occur, although I imagine that I will get use to this as will anyone else who buys this computer. It is a full keyboard which could be a pro, but in making a full keyboard, sacrfices in what a typical layout for the keyboard had to be made. I am making much more typing errors than normal.
Other Thoughts: Having never actually purchased a laptop from anyone that was a mainstream manufacture, I was a little weary of buying something I never heard of, but what I wanted from Alienware would have ran 2500 dollars. While not feature to feature exact to the alienware, the MSI comes close, and for the price you can't go wrong. It performance excellent at everything that I have tried on it so far. My only gripe is the keyboard, while the flex doesn't personally annoy me, it might someone else, and the layout of the keys makes typing, at first, a challenge (if there are typos in this review you are seeing the problem), however I believe over time even this can be worked around. This is a great laptop, and if you are on the fence due to build quality or performance, i would say that neither of those issues should hold you back. It feels and looks like a well built stylish laptop, and it has the muscles to play all but the most demanding games.

She's a screamer!
Pros: Very fast, great for gaming, good price, has a full number pad, looks good, did i mention fast??
Cons: windows vista... keyboard a little weird, sometimes feels like it's not attached all the way?? bluray playing software not installed, comes with windvd 8 but requires an update, corel wants you to pay for it... very very annoying......
the mouse pad is in a weird place too, but no big deal really
Other Thoughts: So far i love it, the cons are definately not enough to deter me from using this thing... it's a powerhouse of a laptop, great speed, gaming is great... so far i've played half life 2 crysis, and farcry 2

Great product
Pros: light weight for it's size, large battery, great power saving features, turbo button that overclocks the processor to 2.88 Ghz, plays games great, batery lasts for 4 hours when you use the turbo battery option, great bang for your buck, and the blu ray player works great when the laptop is plugged in.
Cons: the 2d clocks for the graphics card are too low to watch youtube videos (even plugged in). i'm all for power saving, but you still need that power for general use. it comes pre-installed with Norton, and it has vista 32 bit which can't use all 4GB of memory, and 1GB of graphics memory. if i can i will try to install vista 64 bit, but i'm worried about the msi software working with vista 64.
the blu-ray software does not come pre-installed, and you have to find the CD and install it manually.
When hooking it up to my TV to watch blu ray movies, i would like to be able to close the lid, and still play the movie. Even when i make it so it doesn't go into sleep mode when i close the lid, it still messes up the movie on the external screen.
as noted before they were really stupid to partition the hard drive the way they did, but you just have to delete the data partition, and expand the OS partition.
Other Thoughts: the hard drive is pretty good, but not as good as a seagate 7200.3 or even better a seagate 7200.4, or even better yet a nice SSD.
i wish it came with a remote.
i would recommend this laptop to others, but there are some changes you have to make before it is ready for 24/7 use (partition resized, 2d clocks upped to 200 with software, uninstalling norton, and installing the blu-ray software.)

Solid system, partition resize is built-in on Vista.
Pros: Vista has a built in partition resizer. Just backup your second drive, go to the drive manager, delete the 2nd partition, select the 1st partition (C:) and right-click, you should see the option to resize. Using the Vista help will give you the steps in better detail.
Looking forward to purchase this model. Looks like a very solid system for the size and the money.
Cons: The weak point seems to be the keyboard from what I can read online, some can live with it, some are annoyed by it.
Other Thoughts: A very, very good laptop from MSI. I have been waiting for a medium-sized, high-power laptop like this for a while.

43 gig C: partition!?
Pros: Very Fast when plugged in. Nice backback included. Nice screen.
Cons: Vista 32, the main hd partition is under 44 gig. 340 gig hd and your main partition is 43.9 gig. What where they thinking? The tech support link in control panel takes you to Chinese text. I called the tech support and they said the only option was to purchase partition magic, this utility is not vista compatable. The built in windows vista utility will not work on the C: partition. Sigh....
Other Thoughts: It would really be nice to play games on a gaming laptop, but even if they are installed on the second larger drive i am running out of room on the main. They must be cacheing on the C: drive. Anyone have any ideas?

Amazing Laptop
Pros: This laptop is amazing. Very fast, very good looking. Runs Crysis on high in 1680X1050 perfectly. Handles everything I have thrown at it great. Love the turbo and power settings. Can get 3 + hours on full battery in turbo saver mode with wifi on!
Cons: None, I love everything about this laptop.
Other Thoughts: About what someone said about the computer downclocking on batter and not being able to play games, the only game I havent been able to play on battery is Crysis. And i could play it if I turn everything down to low and lower the resolution. Everything else was very much playable on battery. I wouldnt expect a laptop to be able to play Crysis on battery. If it could the battery would last a half hour. Also some people have talked about the keyboard being springy. I dont see that at all. I think it feels great and is very easy to type on. So much better than any laptop keyboard I have used before. I almost built a desktop instead of buying this and Im so glad I got this. Has all the power of a gaming desktop with the portability of a laptop. Thank you MSI!

Best gaming for the buck
Pros: Hands down the best gaming laptop under 1500. Bluray, P8600 with overclock function (15% and 20%), 1680x1050, 4GB RAM, 1GB 9800M GS, 7200rpm HD, HDMI and a 9 cell battery.
The screen itself is sharp as a tack with good brightness. 1680x1050 on a 15.4" screen is a joy.
It runs Titan Quest Immortal Throne with reliable smoothness at native res, something even my spare desktop ATI 4850 can't do consistently - pretty amazing feat for a 'budget' gaming laptop.
Surprisingly slim and relatively light weight for such beefy specs with a solid build quality. Keyboard includes a useful number pad.
Cons: Just a few.
Goes without saying that battery life, even with a 9 cell, is pretty poor. Not much of a problem for me. If I needed workable battery life, I would've gotten a low powered ultraportable. But this beast is about one thing only. GAMING.
Keyboard needs a bit more support between it and the case. It's a fairly springy design in that pressing keys with moderate force will flex the entire keyboard a bit. I don't see this being much of an issue unless you type with a ton of force.
Other Thoughts: Not sure why there are complaints about underclocking on battery power. This is a brute force gaming laptop squeezing out massive watts. There's not much the manufacturer can do about this. This is not a friendly gaming-away-from-the-wall-socket laptop.

Re: Decent performance on AC
Pros: .
Cons: .
Other Thoughts: Just a update on what I said before. Its a 9 cell battery. The hard drive is partitioned into 2. C: is partitioned with a low space. Makes it difficult for standard install of games.

Decent performance on AC
Pros: This laptop balances what I considered as a balanced gaming laptop: Affordability, power, size, and functionality.
The price is decent in comparison to what you get. This laptop comes with decent 2 core processor, great 9800m video card, and RAM.
The sizing is just right for gaming. Adequate sized display, full keyboard functions for gaming, and not over weighted. Aesthetics are great. The top cover looks great but not flashy with a brushed aluminum black and the red accents makes it stand out a little more. The lid feels solid. The machine is relatively quiet, even under load.
When it comes to functions, it is pretty great. Blue-tooth, eSATA, Bluray, and 1 touch media buttons.
8720 3dmark06 did not test with 3dmark Vantage
Cons: The biggest, and most significant drawback, is the drop in performance when it is off the A/C adaptor. While off of the A/C adaptor, I noticed the FSB will drop from 1276 to like 1000MHz. Everything clocks down.
Forget about gaming off of the AC adaptor. It pulls a 2000+ 3dMark test. Bluray movie run half speed and off timing with audio.
Other Thoughts: The lack of reviews on this PC through out the internet worried me a little, and the amount of underclocking when on just battery is hardly around. I hope other people realize that this is not a very portable gaming laptop -- you will be bound by the AC cord.
The operating system you will get is vista home 32bit. Was hoping for 64 bit =/
Kind of wished for some illumination on the standard keys. In the dark, it can be hard to see the 1 touch media keys as well.
Eco buttons are pointless. It just dims the screen or brightness it.
The turbo button just puts the PC at what it *should be*
Bottomline, it won't let you watch blu-ray movies while travelling on a plane. You won't be able to game at all while sitting in a cafe. The power consumption is just too much for this 6cell-ed laptop to handle. But aside this, it is pretty darn good =P

I'm pondering this one...
Pros: I don't yet have this. But I've done lots of research on it to try to decide whether to buy it...
Pros: Fast Processor, Very Fast Video Card, Blu-ray, 7.1 Audio. Aluminum case, light weight, high resolution screen. Stylish. Reasonable price.
Overall, this is a killer notebook for performance and price performance.
Cons: The biggest con of this model is that is doesn't work well when not plugged in, for two reasons. First, the processor draws 35W and the video card draws 60W (under load). So the overall draw at full load is likely around 100W. It does come with a 9-cell battery, but it likely needs it just to achieve usable battery life.
The second problem is AFAIK, MSI does not allow it to run gaming video quality while on battery. The big sister to this model, the GX620, would downclock the video to 100Mhz and go to a "2D mode" when it was unplugged. This makes it essentially useless for 3D applications when not plugged into AC power.
Other Thoughts: A great performer, light weight, and well priced. But it's likely that most of its functionality requires being plugged into AC. With the laptop I'm upgrading from, I can play many games without being plugged in. So I'm struggling with priorities on whether to buy this one or not.
