Rating + 5 All I use

Pros: I have used this HSF on most of my high end builds. Works great with LGA775 or 1333 socket.

Cools most OCed boxes dramatically.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Looks nice also.

Pros: Pros, well, I'm impressed with this fan. A friend suggested I try newegg.com, and this fan in particular, for my Intel Core 2 Duo 6500 after my manufactuer CPU fan and case fan both died. Having been the first time I have ever taken out a fan, put in a fan, done anything other than plug and play, I didn't know what to expect but was confident I could uninstall and install on my own. Once I got the Motherboard out to put the backerplate on, installation was a breeze. I just followed the steps in the instructions and had no problems. I put the computer back together, plugged it in, and the fans came on, and more importantly, the computer turned on, too!!! The air it moves is incredible and it comes out of the case, cooled, unlike any other fan I've ever used. Additionally, it is SSOOOOOOOO, so quiet! The desktop sits in the room where we watch tv and was always so loud before, now, it is just peaceful!

Cons: I have none.

Other Thoughts: In the name of instant gratification, I paid for overnight FEDEX shipping, and I got overnight shipping! It was here the next morning about 10am.

The installation kits come with thermal grease so you don't need to order additional tubes, unless you want to.

If you're like me and new to installing don't be intimidated by the delicate nature of the components, just go slow, follow the instructions, and you'll do fine.

Rating + 5 THE BEST!!

Pros: All copper.
SOOO much better than the Arctic Cooler 7 Pro in every way!
Enough room to put 4 stick of ram.
Lots of air flow.
Looks nice.
Cant beat the Zalman brand!

Cons: Fan gets loud at high RPMs.
The need to remove the motherboard to install the heatsink, but mounting is more secure than the AC7Pro's cheap, fragile pins.

Other Thoughts: I am currently tweeking to get a stable 4.0GHz setting. I followed the official instructions to apply Arctic Silver 5. No need to put a lot nor spread it before placing the heatsink.

Rating + 5 Amazing Heatsink

Pros: Decent price. Works like a charm. Keeps my PC below 40 degrees C during a benchmark test. Unbelievable.

Cons: It's quite a difficult install. It'll take a few tries to get the orientation right, depending on how much you have going on with your motherboard.

Other Thoughts: The fan, though I knew it was gonna be big, was much larger than I'd anticipated. I have a fan on the inside of my ATX Mid-Tower side panel and actually had to remove the entire thing just to get the panel to close. Also I have a lot going on on the motherboard I have (item #N82E16813141009), and it's impossible to put the heatsink on the 'proper' way. I did manage to get it on though, and it's on for good. If your case can fit it, or if you think you can make it fit, this is definitely worth the price.

Rating + 5 An amazing heatsink...

Pros: This is an amazing heatsink.
I put this on a clients computer that was running an Intel Pentium D 820 3 Ghz Dual Core CPU that was running at about 46-53C idle and over 68C under load, and was shutting the computer down on stock cooling. I installed this with Arctic Silver 5, and the temps dropped to 21-23C idle, and no higher than 42C under a full load (both cores stressed to 100% with Prime95 for 3 hours).
High air flow
Made of solid copper
The BEST HSF i've ever used, hands down.
Future proof (also supports the LGA 1366 socket)

Cons: Instructions left a little to be desired.
Installation was a little time consuming, but the end product was so worth it.
Heatsink isn't really marked to tell you what direction the air flows, and what end the air is brought in.

Other Thoughts: When installing this heatsink, tighten the first screw that holds the fan to the support bracket first, just enough to hold it in, then tighten the other screw down enough to hold it in, then torque both screws down, and it should hold very tightly. After some googling, I found a video that helped me out a lot.
This heatsink will do even better once the thermal paste sinks in :).
My client and I were both very happy with the results.

Rating + 1 Loud & Hot

Pros: It has a nice design, looks okay in a clear side case.

Cons: Everything except the looks

Other Thoughts: I had a Thermal Take T2 for a few months and it started getting loud, so I upgraded to the ArcticCool7. The AC7 was stupid loud, AC7 sent me a new fan for free, new one wasn't any quieter (the AC7 did keep my 3ghz P4 below 40c at full load). So I order one of these bad boys. I just can't win. This things keeps me awake at night if I leave my pc on. It's supposed to be variable speed, but this thing runs all out around the clock! On top of that, my temp hasn't dropped below 40c since I installed this thing. I would give it zero eggs if I could.

Rating + 5 Down >20C.

Pros: I have a Q6600 SLACR. Stock cooling was ~55 idle, up to 70 peak. This brought me down to ~29 idle, ~46 peak. Up goes the clock frequency!

Cons: The thing isn't really that huge compared to other high-dissipation heatsinks, but it is much taller since it's been turned on its side. It barely fit in my 4U rackmount case.

Other Thoughts: Since this blows air tangentially to the mobo instead of normally to it, it helps to have a well-defined airflow direction in your case. It won't work as well if it's fighting a case fan or two.

It comes with thermal grease, but if you're going to blow fifty bucks on this cuprous monstrosity, why not spring five for some Arctic Silver?

Rating + 5 Not bad, Zalman.

Pros: -Easy installation (not to mention more secure than the terrible pushpin design on other coolers for 775 boards)
-All Copper
-Keeps Temps low even at max load from Prime95

Cons: -Size. Seriously, this think is a beast. Make sure you have room.

Other Thoughts: This replaced an old TT cooler on my brother's OC'd C2D, which at it's best, had the idle temps at 44 degrees C. I don't even want to mention what he let the temps get to under load! This cooler brought him down to 32 degrees @ idle and only peaking @ 52 degrees after almost half a day of Prime95! It's great so far. There are a few better out there, but this cooler does pretty well without all the bells and whistles of more costly units.

Rating + 5 Excellent Upgrade

Pros: Quad Core 2.4 GHz (Q6600) idling @ 30 C; 100% load @ 55 C.
The stock fan had it anywhere between 55 C (idle) and 85 C (load).

Cons: none. It's big, so make sure you can fit it. Fit with plenty of room in my Cooler Master STC-T01.

Other Thoughts: Recently, the CPU temp had been reading 93 C under load, which is just unacceptable, and which is what prompted this purchase. Of course after about a week of having this baby fly along wonderfully at such a low temp, I decided to get creative and start OC'ing the CPU. I am currently sitting nicely with a 3.6 GHz OC'd CPU, idling @ around 43 C, and 63 C under 100% load. Air Cooled. :D

BTW, side note, the Cooler Master STC-T01 is what made this OC possible. 5 case fans, a CPU fan, a PSU fan, a northbridge fan, and a GPU fan, and all that air is circulating beautifully through and out of the case.

Also, I bought the Arctic MX-2, which worked wonderfully. I suggest you buy a separate thermal compound, as the amount they give with this fan is the bare minimum (in my opinion).

Rating + 5 great hsf

Pros: bought this to go on a core 2 duo e8400, which I overclocked to 3.4 ghz. The cpu idles at 31 C and got to only 46 degrees C at full load running prime95 for 45 mins!!

and that's with the fan setting on 50%!!

Cons: it's a little large (though I've seen bigger). If you have a very small case, it might be a close fit. I have a mid-tower case, and didn't have any problems though.

Other Thoughts: This cooling fan is able to take advantage of variable speed functions built into most newer motherboards. I set mine to run at 37% until the cpu gets to 45 degrees, then it increases automatically. so if you are just browsing the web or listening to music, you won't hear a thing.

at the 37% setting, the fan is almost completely silent, and still does an excellent job cooling the cpu.

Rating + 5 Perfect

Pros: The cooling power on this is amazing, took the temps of my CPU down from 100*C+ (while playing games / listening to music / downloading) to 34*C doing the same things. The fan it self is so quiet I had to look to make sure that it was on when I first turned on my computer after installation!

As always, shipping w/Newegg was amazing. Ordered late Sunday, arrived Tuesday afternoon!

Cons: This isn't really a con but I'm glad I know how to take apart and put together all the pieces in my computer. Installing this required me to remove my motherboard and most of the components to get the bottom support bracket in. Like I said, not a problem for me, took about 20min total, but for someone who's not as versed with the inner workings of their computer, this might be a difficult install.

Not Newegg's fault, but the UPS driver left this package out at the mailbox instead of at my doorstep. My driveway is only 3.5 car lengths long, so it wouldn't have been any extra work. I'm glad the box was still there when I returned home from work.

Rating + 5 20 degrees celsius cooler

Pros: Using a G35 micro-atx mobo, Radeon 3870, and Pentium e5200, I would consistantly have 100% CPU usage and a reading of 70C within Speedfan while playing World of Warcraft (25m bossfights in particular). Figured this was part of the cause of sluggish FPS and video lag.

Anyway, on first bootup I ran Prime95 to test the CPU under 100% for 3 minutes. Watched speedfan for the entire 3 minutes and the CPU temp never climbed above 53C, and when the test was done it jumped back to 45C. Have yet to test it out within the game though.

Cons: Never used an after-marked cooler before, and did not realize it would be so large. Micro-ATX users beware, this thing will be a tight fit, especially if there is not much real estate within your case.

I had to remove the air scoop that attached to the side panel for it to fit. Also had trouble replugging in the atx12v plug (4 hole power plug) since it was right next to the CPU. Had to unscrew the PSU to fit my fingers in there to plug it in. Recommendation: plug in the atx12V plug before you begin to screw down the mobo.

Other Thoughts: Ordered it on Sunday and it was here Tuesday with standard shipping. Can't beat Newegg's service.

Would definitely recommend.

Rating + 3 Great cooler - keeps the CPU cool, but it is LOUD

Pros: I pitched my stock cooler a year or so after building a system with this CPU cooler. It's great, does the job, keeps the system running fine.

Cons: CPU cooler runs best when left to the 'performance' setting that my motherboard sets. The problem is, this setting means the system is always loud and the noise is ONLY coming from this CPU cooler. I tried lowering the setting and performance dropped, so I'm sort of stuck with the tornado sound. I wish I had kept the controller that would allow me to change the CPU fan speed.

Other Thoughts: I never overclock. From now own, unless I run into problems, I'm going with stock Intel coolers.

Pros: Parked on top of a E8500 (stock 3.16ghz)
Dropped my temp 20 degrees Cel as soon as applied.

Currently OC'd to 4.28ghz at a stable 45 degrees at idle and a peak of 67 using Prime 95 and OCCT. Just beat Crysis with it...nice having 15 second load times :)

Cons: Very tall, but that should be expected on ALL coolers that do a good job.

Storage: 2x 250gb WD

Rating + 5 Fan-F*#%ING-Tastic!!!

Pros: Decent price, insanely good performance, comes with thermal compound. This thing is made for overclockers. Got into the 4GHz club with this and the temps were about the same as they were at stock speeds and lower voltage with the Intel HSF.

This morning my CPU was about the same as the ambient temp. Absolutely brilliant.

And to top it all off, the copper color looks nice. Pics on the site make it appear to have a red tint. Doesn't do it justice if ya ask me.

Cons: Bit of a pain to mount. Had to take apart my entire system. But, on the bright side it gave me a chance to clean out the dust and redo my cabling.

Rating + 5 impressed

Pros: Just impressed
amost 30c down...
now my Extreme Edition 3.2Ghz CPU goes 5.1Ghz still 50c... Just impressed

Cons: it is Big...
Very large. Make sure you have roughly a 5 x 5 x 5 inch^3 (for you metric ppl, it's ~ 12.5^3 cm^3) clearance over the CPU or else you'll have to modify/move some stuff around. You could just make sure to keep the area clear

Other Thoughts: When I got my new processor, I noticed a drop in performance. Turns out that it was being throttled back due to heating issues with the stock fan. This fan is amazing and I'd recommend it as long as you have room for this beast in your computer case.

Rating + 5 Taste Win

Pros: Switched from a ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro and the temp dropped from 80C to 56C under 100% load. Prime95 for 4 hours confirmed stabled 56C temp on an Intel quad core Q6600.

My temperature drop of 24C is most likely not indicative of what others have experienced. The ARCTIC heat sink I had been using seems to have had a slightly warped locking pin thus never getting a tight seal with the CPU and thermal paste.

Cons: - Pain to install back plate
- Fins are sharp
- Screws can be hard to reach. In my case there is about a half inch standoff between the cooling fan and the fan at the back of my case. It made screwing down the cooling fan a nightmare.

Pros: Looks great and runs quiet; easy install w/correct mounting clip.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: Purchased for my first build... works great with an i7 860 chip; separate ZALMAN ZM-CS5B Clip Support Kit purchase required to match the 1156 mobo connections (included 775 clip looks exactly like the 1156 clip, but the mounting holes are slightly off)

Pros: 100% Copper! Even the CPU plate is copper, making this baby cool my Celeron Dual-Core. 32*C at idle and 39*C at load. Looking at overclocking from 2.4Ghz to at least 3Ghz thanks to this thing. Also silent!

Cons: It may seem a little heavy at first, but the design of the backplate makes it easy. It is over the max recommended for Intel CPUs, but it was worth it.

Other Thoughts: My first buy from Zalman. Great product! I would buy another.

Rating + 5 Absolutely Awesome !!!

Pros: - Most importantly, it's doing its job very well. Core2Duo E6850 3.0 GHz is idling between 30 and 35 deg Celsius (compare this to idling at 60 deg Celsius with stock cooling)
- Very quiet. Even at maximum speed (2650 rpm), I can barely hear this thing. It really does live up to its reputation of being "Ultra Quiet"
- Fairly straightforward to install (assembly manual is quite helpful). Took me about an hour to install, with no difficulty

Cons: Wish I could give this product a 10 egg rating :)

Other Thoughts: Note that this installation does require the motherboard tray to be lifted by loosening a few spacers (if not completely removed). Cables and other stuff in the way will have to be disconnected and re-connected. No big deal, this is just something to note.

Also, installation does require some basic knowledge and care, especially since you're working with the CPU. For example, you need to ground yourself with an anti-static wrist strap. In other words, this installation may be challenging to users unfamiliar with building / upgrading systems.

As others have mentioned, be very careful not to exert undue force on the fan or the copper around it, as parts might get damaged (they're meant to be light and fragile, that's why they work so well !!!)

Great product, overall. This is definitely the cooler of choice for any systems I build in the future :)

Rating + 5 Great Fan

Pros: Specs:
Antec 300 case
Intel E8500 3.16gz processor
nforce 780i motherboard

Very nice fan. looks awesome. doesnt have LED which is something i prefer. the cpu ran at 50C (60C during teh summer) full load and 38C idle with stock fan and heatsink. Now, with this fan, it runs at 40C full load and idles at 30C. i cannot wait to see how well this heatsink and fan runs during the summer.

Cons: when reinstalling the mother board and trying to get the 8-pin atx power cable (which is right next to the CPU) plugged in, i cut myself in multiple places because of the copper fins.

Other Thoughts: Taking the motherboard out to install this was no bid deal considering the great temps i see. i also had a chance to hide all my wires while haveing the motherboard out.
Also, when i was thinking about buying this, i was worried that the fan was too big and that it will hit the top mounted fan of my Antec case. even though i did some measuring, i was still a bit worried. but i am glad it fits nicely. it still is pretty close to my fan though. maybe got about 1 cm of clearence between them.

Rating + 5 Much better than stock cooler

Pros: I have a Q6600 Intel Quad Core 2.4 Ghz, overclocked to 3.0 Ghz.

Stock cooler -> idling ~60C, and ~80C under load
This cooler -> idling ~44C, and ~62C under load.

Much better! Also the biggest con, is also the biggest plus. You have to take your motherboard out to mount the backplate. But it's worth the work. It's much better and more secure than the standard plastic push-in screws.

Cons: Had to rip computer apart to mount.

Other Thoughts: A very solid cooler for the money.

Rating + 5 Serious Stuff

Pros: Excellent cooling - Intel Q9550 on Gigabyte EP45-UD3P idles at 28-29 C (@ stock speed, 2.83 GHz) and peaks no higher than 39 C during heavy video editing and conversions. The REAL kicker is when you overclock...@ 3.6 GHz, idle is 32-33 C and never peaked above 48 C.

Excellent quality - The copper is not "chintzy" and the engineers who designed this actually thought about things before finalizing on a design to mass produce. The fan is excellent quality as well (2 ball).

Cons: Very large. Make sure you have roughly a 5 x 5 x 5 inch^3 (for you metric ppl, it's ~ 12.5^3 cm^3) clearance over the CPU or else you'll have to modify/move some stuff around. You could just make sure to keep the area clear.

Also, the fins are thin (but not in a cheap or "chintzy" sort-of-way) and may cut you, so be careful during the install and DO NOT leave cords touching the fins because...eventually, the humming and buzzing MIGHT eventually cut the cord and you'll have a fried system.

Other Thoughts: You will be pleasantly surprised and realize it's worth the money. I've built many systems now and this is the first time I've used this particular Zalman CPU HS and fan and will never buy anything less for mid-range and higher systems.

Pros: So quiet I had to triple-check if it was even running. Cools the CPU and is enough to not even get an intake fan.

Cons: The clip requires a lot of force which can make you nervous with a high-dollar mobo and CPU.

Other Thoughts: Be sure to double-check the size of this monster versus your case. It barely fit inside a MicroATX Mid tower.

Cons: WILL NOT WORK ON DELL DIMENSION 4700, or probably any Dell for that matter. Had to RMA. Apparently the LGA 775 socket is not standard size on a Dell MOBO. Only Dell components work with Dell computers. Just another reason my next computer will not be a Dell.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded my 570 2.8Ghz to a 670 3.8Ghz. Ended up using stock heatsink and cooling.

Pros: Once I try my new to me E8400 with stock cooler, I can judge whether this lower rpm device is better or not as I've found, the higher the rpm, the noisier it is.

Cons: I'll be letting everyone know about my experience. As long as it fits in my mid case. Fan noise is a big issue with me. I hope I don't have to butcher it to fit my Asus Turbo Pro mobo.

Other Thoughts: I'll know how it all works by New Year.
Happy Holidays to all.

Pros: super cold, much quieter than my previous fan. as low as 22 degrees idle, 33 load (after about an hour of cod4)

Cons: loudest fan in my case, was hoping for a near silent fan -1 egg

Other Thoughts: i am using a pretty cheap motherboard so it may be overloading the fan with power (could be defective fan plug on mobo)

Pros: Seems to work great, my temp is 38 C.

Cons: It's pretty big... thats what she said...lol sorry couldnt resist. But you do need the room on your motherboard, and

Other Thoughts: It wasn't as tough to install as others made it to sound. I was expecting a lot worse based on the reviews about the shapr blades and the difficulty of installation. There are plenty of resources available on the web to guide you through the installation if you dont find the manufacturers instructions too helpful.

I didn't use the stock thermal compound it came with, because I also ordered the Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound, as a package deal, (great deal by the way).

I do not know what to accredit the majority of the cool temp to.

Pros: Quite

Zalman website has a video for the install.
Does its job well.
Build;

Q9550
AData DDR2 800 4gigs dual kit
EVGA GT220
3 WD Black Sata HDD 500gigs ea
Corsair 650W PSU
No-name case that is 8 yrs old
Windows 7 Ultimate

Highly recommend. First time with a 3rd heatsink, install was not that bad even though it took about 45 minutes. No cuts, no cursing and lots of satisfaction with this build.

Cons: Size, its big, but size is everything when it comes to cooling a 95W cpu. I have a mobo tray. Installed the heatsink outside of case. When I slid the mobo into the case I slightly bent one fin. Was able to easily reshape the fin. Fins are sharp and easily bent. Handle carefully. I used the exposed heat pipes in gap between the heat sink and the fins to position the heat sink on the cpu. Did not come with artic silver tp.
Note that one of the plastic mounting brackets is mounted on the back of the motherboard. Must mount this before installing mobo in case.

Other Thoughts: Also note that the plastic mounting bracket for the top of the mobo has cutout for the cpu mounting lever, make sure that this cutout is positioned for the lever to fall into the cutout in the open postion. Do not overtighten the long screws that pass through the mobo. Tricky part is the retention clip. Make sure that the U shape on the ends of the clip are pointing up, towards the fins of the cooling unit and that the hole in the clip is postioned directly over and engaging the knob in the center of the heatsink. Take one of the short screws and start by only engaging one or two threads. Notice that the other end of the clip is about 1/4" above the other mounting hole. Place second screw in hole of clip and using screwdriver slowly press the screw into the hole and turn to engage threads. This is a spring loaded clip and some force is needed. If you have to muscle the center hole may not be matching to the knob. Observe the details & take it slow.

Pros: -does a good job of cooling with minimal fan speed

Cons: -securing screws weren't very long, i wonder about their durability
-made some vibration noise at about 1900RPM; fixed by bending a fin that was rattling against the heat pipe
-rolled over and got Arctic Silver 5 on the bed

Other Thoughts: -large but not too huge to work with
-takes a good bit of force to get the screws to stay in when securing
-i put it on the wrong direction the first time; instructions weren't very clear in noting which way the fan blows

Cons: -difficult to install
-some of the fins were a little bent, but shouldnt make too much of a difference.

Other Thoughts: have this on a Q9550 overclocked to 3.4ghz. This cooler keeps it at 27-31C at idle and 53C under full load. I never expected it to perform this well. the install, however, was a pain. The instructions are not clear, i thought i was gonna snap my mobo wile screwing in the clip that holds it down. and be careful with those fins, they're sharp!

Rating + 5 The Best!

Pros: My last heat sink on my Q6700 was running at 65deg. C without overclocking it. With this heat sink and over clocking my processor from 2.66 up to 3.33 the chip never made it above 50deg. C and that's with playing call of duty 4 and left for dead, I even ran pinnacle to process an hours worth of home movies and still ran in the 40s.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Big and heavy! had to remove A side tower cooling fan but wit 3 others it shouldn't be a problem. I also like the speed control with its flat ribbon cable. I always keep it turned all the way down (no sound at all) to cranking it for the games (still very quiet) don't hesitate.

Pros: -Knocked off 20 degree celsius under full load and allowed me to bump up my OC so my Q9550 quad core (2.8ghz) can run at 3.4ghz
- don't need to run the three fans I had at full speed now. My computer doesn't sound like a wind tunnel now
- idle went from 40 to 35
- full load went from 72 to 50

Cons: Idle temps only took a 5 degree change but easily set off by the fact that i dont have to run my fans at full tilt anymore

Other Thoughts: -super easy to install but you do have to take out the MB to do it
- used arctic silver 5 with it instead of the grease that came in the box

Pros: Works great. E6600. Stock fan at default CPU speed (2.4ghz) would idle around 37C. Overclocked to 3.0 ghz, it would shoot up to 50C. I never even tested it at load with temps that high. Bought the Zalman, installed it. At 2.4 ghz 27C idle. Loaded = 27C. OC'd to 3.0 = 28C, Loaded at 3.0ghz = 30C. The thing cools incredibly well.

Cons: You have to remove the motherboard to install it. Won't fit in small or cramped cases.

Rating + 5 Zalman Cooling Fan (LGA775)

Pros: This CPU heatsink & fan works great! My PC started shutting down due to an overheating CPU. (The standard heatsink & fan by Intel obviously didn't work very well). This Zalman product dropped my CPU temperature by almost 50 degrees F (I don't use Celsius). There was plenty of wire to connect it to the motherboard connection and it is super quiet.

Cons: It is a rather large heatsink so make sure you pay attention not only to the dimensions before ordering, but make sure you have enough clearance when you close your computer case. Also, the heatsink is made of copper so be very careful when handling it as it scratches easily. Also pay close attention to the bottom of the heatsink which will rest on the processor and thermal grease: try not to scratch this area which is easily done. **The fins are sharp and can cut without you knowing it. Be careful. I didn't realize I cut myself until I washed my hands.**

Other Thoughts: Overall, this is a great heatsink and fan. It will take you a little time as you need to remove the motherboard to install the necessary hardware on the bottom side. Make sure you spend a few extra dollars and get the high end thermal grease with your order. This product is worth your time and money if you want a product that does the job well.

Rating + 5 Great cooler!

Pros: Relatively easy to install once you figure out what you need to do, really cools well

Cons: a little different installation that I was used to with stock Intel heatsinks but actually easier in a way, although you have to remove the motherboard from the case.

Other Thoughts: Before I got this, I was using a stock Intel cooler that for some reason wasn't cooling my E6300 Core 2 Duo well at all. I switched to this and now it's running around 36 deg C on idle.

Installation is a little different. You have to remove the motherboard from the case, install your CPU, attach the flat square piece on the motherboard's under-side and screw the mini-table like piece into that from the top of the motherboard. Then you attach the metal piece to the heatsink, apply thermal grease to the CPU (provided), place the heatsink on top of the cpu and screw it in. Was pretty easy actually but took me a while to figure out exactly what I needed to do.

Rating + 5 Oh, yeah!

Pros: I have a Pentium D that typically operated at 68-71 degrees Celsius. I just restarted the machine after having played Half Life 2 for a while and it's running at 52 degrees Celsius. That pretty much says it all. Cannot hear it over the two 120mm and one 92mm fans in the case (but I'm not so picky that the noise REALLY bothers me). This little fan will extend the life of my current system until I upgrade, and that's all I really wanted.

Cons: It was so easy to install that I feel almost guilty for not having to put forth too much of an effort. Noobs might have difficulty getting it clamped down.

Other Thoughts: I can't give this CPU cooler ALL the credit, as I just put my micro ATX board into a full ATX case that now has three fans versus the one fan in the old, puny case, and much more space inside too boot. Went from a HP Media Center m7170n case to a Thermaltake SopranoRS.

Rating + 5 Awesome cooler.

Pros: This thing just looks quality. Nice heat pipes and a plethora of thin copper fins to disperse the heat. The fins looks really fragily but you can _gently_ hold grasp them to support the weight of the heatsink during installation -- just don't bend them, that would really be a bummer.

This thing is SILENT. Can't notice the noise at all.

Installation was fairly simple for having to put the mount underneath the motherboard. The top plastic part was an EXACT fit pressed up against the other passive coolers built on to my motherboard (even 1cm off and the screw holes wouldn't have aligned) but hey, it fit!

Very happy with this.

Cons: None. I wish it had an LED, but that's not Zalman's fault.

Other Thoughts: I don't have my old temps anymore, but I will say changing from stock to this lowered my load temp by 15-20 degrees. My idle temp rests nicely around 30°C, and I've got my Q6600 overclocked to 3GHz.

Might be a little big for some cases, but fits very easily in my Antec Nine Hundred. Also, be sure you understand which way the air flows and have it aligned with your case fans.

Pros: This CPU cooler is AMAZING it cools very well from the stock cooler. and is very quiet. With speedfan set at 62 % fast enough to make it cool well enough to keep it under 50C full load for 3 hours. which is very nice!

Cons: Like the last reviewer Said. People claimed to have been hurt by the fins but as i was handling it i never once even got Cut. not even Punctured. Noise.. anything higher then 63% speed makes this annoying Hissing noise and thats where the magic happens thats when the cpu cooler is at its best at least 80% its awesome keeps my temps under 45C at 100% 40C

Other Thoughts: WISH THIS THING WOULD BE MORE QUIET but thats me it was a Replacement for the intel Stock cooler that did nothing it was a block of Metal on a motherboard with Prongs with a Pi** poor fan.

Pros: The CPU was idling around 50-60C before install. Dropped all the way down around 25C after install!!! Steady since! I said the heck with it and over-clocked the wolfdale 3.0 Intel duo core 2 to 3.6 with 1600 mhz FSB. The CPU still only at 30C. Great product!!!

Cons: The only negative was having to remove the mobo to put the bracket on the bottom...that is just me being pure lazy though.

Other Thoughts: A lot of people were talking about cutting their hand on the copper. I managed to do it with no issue but you do need to be carefully. If I ever need another CPU cooling fan, this is the one I'm going with.

Rating + 4 Cuts you up and scary to install

Pros: Excellent heat distribution. I haven't gone past 32c on idle. Haven't pushed it to the extreme yet but I doubt it will go beyond 55. So much better then the stock fan for my dual core 2.9 Intel. Pretty cheap too. Awesome look.

Cons: Hard on your hands during install. I cut myself in at least four places merely brushing up against it to the point I draped a napkin around it so I wouldn't further hurt myself during the build.

Scary to install. I thought I was either going to break my processor or my mobo screwing it in. Requires an unbelievable amount of force to secure.

Requires a significant amount of clearance on all sides.

Heavy.

Other Thoughts: Worth the money and the pain to install.

Pros: Really efficient cooling (around 30-40 degrees C better than stock), solid construction (real screws!! screw tool-less junk).

Cons: A little too much pressure with the clamp piece - had to bend it a bit to get the tiny screws to thread correctly. Way too much pressure as it was shipped - screwdriver shot up and hit me in the tooth!!

Other Thoughts: Though it's a big time investment, especially in a fully built machine, I really appreciate the use of screws and hard tools. It really gives you a solid hold that isn't subject to user error half as much as those esoteric tool-less options.

Rating + 5 Awesome!

Pros: Having used the 7000 series in past builds, this is a considerable upgrade. Cools very well (30C idle for QX6700), assists in pulling air over RAM sticks, and flows directly out of the case through the rear fan.

Mobo bios has the fan running at 1400 rpm during idle state and is completely silent.

Improved and wider spacing between the fins compared to the 7000 series -- looks like it won't become a victim of permanently embedded dust.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Installed on P5QL/EPU in Antec Sonata III. Found the backplate just barely interfered with soldered through-hole leads of the capacitors surrounding the 775 socket. A sharpie and 5 minutes with a file solved it.

Rating + 3 What could of...

Pros: N/A

Cons: Was unable to successfully mount the fan on my Asus P5Q Pro Turbo. Snap on bracket mount on both sides is obstructed by either a heatstink or nudges up against the RAM.

Even if you could find a way to successully to replace the sorrounding motherboard heat sink, consider that on the same end the clip piece will touching capacitors and you will be unable to have four sticks of RAM due to the other side of the clip piece pressing up agaisnt it.

Other Thoughts: This is my fault, I should have done a more thorough research before I purchased this product considering that the vendor that I bought it from does not take returns/exhanges. I was desperate for a CPU cooling fan when my old one's bracket mount was broken and wanted a quick fix.

Furthermore perhaps Zalman should update their compatibility list; while I know that it wont fit on my particular motherboard, the old one I had, an Asus PQ5, has enough room to fit this fan seeing as I've tried it out, albeit not being on their compatible list.

If you're looking for a solution to all of this, well patience and purchasing your product off Newegg. The simple fact that you can return your product is really helpful.

Pros: Fairly easy install for a mechanically minded individual with low understanding of computer systems. The fan is doing a great job of keeping my wife's system cool! My brother talked me through the install over the phone. Took about 30 minutes from opening the case to completion.

Cons: Had to remove the motherboard from the case to install the mounting hardware. Was not difficult, but I had been hoping to avoid that.

Other Thoughts: I had read comments that the fan blades were very sharp and people are cutting their fingers. I did not find it to be the case. Simply take your time and be careful. I expected razor blade sharpness after reading some of the reviews but they are not that sharp. Overall a great product and I would purchase another without hesitation.

Pros: This heat sink seemingly duals as an extra fan as well as cooling the CPU. With this product I've dropped my idle temp to 30-33C and loaded 39-42C. Setting it up may take you a little time if your cannot understand the instructions, however Zalman's website has a flash show play by play of how to install it correctly. I recommend using Arctic Silver 5 Thermal compound with this heat sink.

Cons: Although its a tad big it fit in my Cooler Master Cosmos case without a hitch. So I cannot take eggs for its size.

Cons: Figuring out how the (free) bundled 1366 socket frame worked with my EVGA x58 micro took about half an hour. You don't sandwich the mobo with the frame, it all sits on top. At first I thought it just didn't fit but they are both labeled 1366...

Other Thoughts: Did I mention low-profile; it is in a mini-case.

Rating + 5 Awesome!!!!

Pros: Great cooler, massive...big!!!!. Well not that big but still fairly large, luckily i have a big enough case for it to fit (have a Antec P182). Cooling wise, WOW!!!! Jebus i wish i bought this a long time ago. It keeps my old 90nm Pentium D 820 nice and cool and is very quiet. My idle temps are between 28-33c. Even when i overclock near its max to 3.5Ghz fully stable and fast. It doesn't even go over 50, stays within 35-48c. Before i didn't exactly have a stock cooler but had a Cooler master heatsink that was similar design and temps were fairly high just in idle.

So happy i bought this zalman, for sure my main brand for heatsinks now. Before when i overclocked, anything above 3ghz it could boot but games more so especially ran slower because of the heat stress. But now the zalman has solved all problems and might actually hold me off from buying a new cpu for now. I can't wait to see the temps and overclocking on a newer 45nm cpu.

Cons: Nothing really, had to take out the motherboard to install the bracket but was no big deal. Knew that before buying. Be careful with the fins, try not to cut yourself. Wish Zalman included a slightly bigger tube of thermal paste, i didn't have enough spare cash to buy some arctic silver. So i used the one included, but darn was it hard just to get a drop out.

And wish it was AMD compatible / came with the AMD brackets cause i want to buy a new AMD quad core. Even though i know it's intel only, but good thing it works with the new core i5 and i7's. Glad they sell the brackets separately.

Other Thoughts: Buy it! You will absolutely love it. I've been doing benchmarks and overclocking tests non stop :P

Rating + 5 Very well made-Cools great-Quiet

Pros: Nice bracket mounting system doesn't flex-bend boards like intel stock-push pin retainer mounts. Cools great this is my second one cools my e8500 to idle 28c-load is about 35c to 40c very cool. My q9550 a 95w chip at about 32c idle and 44c to 47c under heavy load, also Verry cool.

Cons: None i can think of except maybe you have to take your bord out to install mount the first time but nice mounting sysyem and the suport of a nice stiff bracket around the socket well worth it.

Other Thoughts: Pulse modulated fan works very well with both the motherbords i have them on, e8500 runs about 1500rpm to1900rpms and Q9550 runs 1700rpms to 2100rpms = very quiet.

Rating + 5 Bloody Good

Pros: Cool and quiet. Lowered my temps by 10C from 49C to 39C on an overclocked Intel duo quad core processor. Sits high enough above the system board to clear components. Not that it matters, but it looks like some kind of cool futuristic fusion or matter/aniti-matter rocket engine.

Cons: None, really, unless you have a smaller case. This thing is pretty large.

Other Thoughts: I read previous reviews and so I was determined not to cut myself on the fins. Everything went fine and while I was making the final turns on the mounting screws I noticed what I thought was ink on the fins. Nope. Blood. I cut myself on both hands and didn't even notice it. Use a longer screw driver for the final attachment. Apply pressure to both the heat sink bracket and your wounds. Have kleenex handy to prevent bleeding on your system board.

Rating + 5 Amazing!

Pros: NO STUPID PUSH PINS! Great cooler, too, keeps my q9550 at 27c idle 45c load. Much better than my Cooler Master Hyper TX2. Quiet, even at like 85%, its inaudible. After that, the amount of air makes more noise than the fan.

Cons: When you have a cooler processor, the heat has to go somewhere! In the summertime that can be really annoying. I had to take the mobo out, but not having pushpins was so worth it.

Other Thoughts: Buy it. Now. Newegg is awesome. Free LGA 1366 bracket is nice, too.

Pros: Keeps the CPU nice and cool, is also very quiet Also has a nice look to it for anyone with the see through sides on their case.

Cons: Heat sink fins are a bit sharp, so take care when installing.

Other Thoughts: Some reviews make it seem tougher to install than I found it to be. Uses screws rather than the plastic clips some new cards have which do increase installation times since some have to remove their motherboard to install, but I find worth it and more secure.

Rating + 4 Zalman

Pros: Very quiet, somewhat easily installed, cools cpu 10-12 C below stock cpu fan. it came with therman grease which was nice, but I got the combo deal and now I have spare arctic silver 5.

Cons: installation was a little time consuming, - 1 egg... that clip is hard to do

Other Thoughts: nice product, mobo controlled, all aluminum, fits in an antec 300 case on an xfx 750i mobo

Pros: Looks impressive

Cons: Was DoA, also the mount was difficult to put on the motherboard

Other Thoughts: I'm sure I'm the one in a million guy that'll say this but based on my purchase I am a first and last time buyer from Zalman
Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer,

We are sorry to hear about the defective unit. If you fill out the RMA form on our website, www.zalman.com, under the Customer Center, we can send you a replacement fan as soon as possible!

Pros: Keeps a 2.66ghz Core i7 at 40C under load. Almost completely silent.

Cons: A bit big and bulky to install. Sharp edges can cut fingers, be careful when installing.

Other Thoughts: Zalman offers a socket 1366 clip kit that will allow this fan to be mounted on a 1366 (Core i7) board. When I bought the heatsink this clip came with it (Newegg deal only).

Rating + 5 A great improvement over stockfans'

Pros: Quiet, Efficient, looks great!
I originally had to re-put on my stock fan to rma a motherboard.
Re-using the thermal pound on a cheap stock fan by intel along with it's pathetic thermal pad, = the worst outcome.
I was hit 80 degree's Celsius IDLE. it was horrible, i was even afraid of my processor the Q9550 even burning up.
The Zalman 9500 Combined with Artic Silver 5 and Arcticlean, it went from 80C idle to 40-43C idle. Now that's what i should be seeing, i wish for 30C though but i can't have it all.

Cons: Price is pretty expensive in the overall basis of "buying a fan"
But when we get into it, Zalman, the awesomist brand for Fans, this was at a low and affordable price when compared to it's other work.
But what's important, they all show significant improvement!
Installation was tideous, but once that's over it's smooth trailing!
(make sure you put it in the right direction! i messed up the 1st time and had to move it to the left.

Other Thoughts: Remember! the way te fan faces is te way it throws air out!

I did my homework, and was told not to put to much artic silver 5. Looking back, i couldn't tell if i put enough...
I did my reserach with spreading it around and putting a dot in the middle and letting the heatsink even it out itself.
I just came with a conclusion to spread it out, since it's a square base and not a circular like the stock, which would have been in more interest to do so at that time.
But yeah, dot or spread, they both work.

Rating + 4 GREAT!!!

Pros: -Copper which is a great heat conductor
-Low stress on motherboard
-Dont have to mess with the plastic clips that eventually break
-Fits perfectly
-VERY COOL!!!!!

Cons: -Copper fins bend very easially, must be careful when you are moving around your case, and also sharp.
-Bottom bracket didnt fit perfectly due to a soldiered capicator on the bottom of the mobo, I just filed the plastic bracket a bit.

Other Thoughts: Great heatsink, Great price, Great brand, Great peformance....

Rating + 5 Zalman Delivers

Pros: Cools off your CPU to about 10 degrees less than a stock fan. Went from 50 to 40, amazing for the price. Is a great, cheap after market fan for your system.

Cons: Installation of course. Instructions were a bit confusing but figured it out eventually. You have to remove the entire motherboard tray and take out the motherboard itself to install. This is the case, however with most if not all CPU fans though.

Other Thoughts: Definitely recommended!

Rating + 5 WHAT A BEAST

Pros: Looks like it will cool a warm cpu : ) but i think do to my inexperience hooking up a heatsink/cpu fan It isn't cooling as much as I would like.

Cons: the only con would be the installation, because you have to take entire system out and apart to get to the back of MB to install brace under cpu, but with the heavydutiness {(its a word)alright not really}of the fan it makes sense. I did not deduct an egg because it isn't the products fault I am a wuss when it comes to setting heavy things on my CPU

Other Thoughts: I personaly don't llike installing these because when you are screwing it down you have to go back and forth between each side of bracket to make it flush against cpu, and I am afriad of cracking/breaking my cpu. I recomend having the fan from it blow out the back and have a fan on the back blowing out as it will help a great deal with air flow and cool significantly, I know that sounds like common sense but not everyone knows, as I jsut learned with this beast.

Rating + 4 Pretty good, not quite good enough

Pros: Good looking and better than stock Intel heatsink

Cons: Whatever separates this from the better heatsinks out there, one of which I should have bought instead.

Other Thoughts: While gaming, my CPU temps were maxing out at nearly 70 degrees at stock CPU speeds w/ stock heatsink. This is not good. So I had to remove the side panel whenever I would play games, dropping the max temps down to right at the maximum critical temperature for the Q6600, 62 degrees. I want to be able to play games without my case being wide open, so I purchased and installed this heatsink. BUT I also decided that while I already had everything opened up, I may as well tape mod the processor (easiest option for overclocking the Dell, switching the FSB to 1333 from 1066, thus increasing the core clocks to 3.0 GHz from 2.4). So, now, with the overclock, I'm pretty much where I started @ ~66 degrees while gaming with the side panel on, but at least it maxes out at 58 degrees with the panel off. I suppose if I am not seeing a noticeable difference from the OC, I can remove the tape from the processor... Anyone know if I need more thermal paste if want to remove & then reinstall this?

Pros: Looks potent, and it works

Cons: might be big for people trying to use a small computer tower

Rating + 5 Nice Solid Product

Pros: Seems to cool exceptionally well

Installations was a breeze

Very quiet

Cons: not really a con, but this unit is BIG.

Other Thoughts: This was the first "after market" heatsink/cooling fan that I have installed and I found the installation to be very easy and straight forward. The mothernoard must be removed to install this product, easy for a new build but would be a hassle for a modification.

I would recommend having some new skin available because the cooling fins are sharp and can cut knuckles very easily (the voice of experience.)

As usual Newegg rocks, I ordered on a Saturday and it arrived on the following Thursday while I was on vacation.

Pros: Dropped Temps on my E8400 by 7 degrees on idle and by 16 at load running Prime95, large FFT's. OC'ed from stock 3.0 GHz to 4.0 GHz. No concerns with heat at all.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Matches nice with my ASUS P5Q-E copper pipes.

Rating + 4 Installation!

Pros: - Quiet. I can barely hear any noise compared with my old fan/sink

- Cool design.

- Decent performance. CPU idle temperature drops 6-10 degrees compared with my old heatsink/CPU.

Cons: - I hate the fact that you have to unplug everything on the MB and take out the MB to install the support rack. And the clip! Pain.

- Be careful of the fins!

- The fan power is too far from the fan outlet on my MB (ASUS-PQE5)

- The heat sink is too close to my Video Card

Other Thoughts: good product.

Pros: Beautiful all copper design, PWM fan, very secure mounting to socket 775, quiet fan at low RPMs, fits on a Biostar TPower I45 MB and in the Antec 900 without interfering with stock cooling hardware.

Cons: Install can be difficult if done by yourself; get another pair of hands when securing the clip at the very least.

Other Thoughts: Using Arctic Silver 5 on an E8400, at stock speed, I saw the following improvement:
Stock Intel heatsink: 29 C Idle, 48-53 C Full Load (after 300 hour burn in)
Zalman CNPS9500 AT: 27 C Idle, 38-42 C Full Load (before 300 hour burn in)

Rating + 3 Usually the best

Pros: Lots of copper. Zalman.

Cons: Installed on an i7 920. Not my personal computer...so i don't remember the exact specs. I think max recommended operating temps on this chip are like 60 C. This fan only brought the temps down to like 40 C with ambient temps of around 27 C. Load I believe was right around 50 C. Still in range, but I wonder if the stock intel cooler wouldn't have done the same thing. Will never know...as I bought this off the rip and placed faith in Zalman.

Other Thoughts: Not big enough. More copper....
