Rating + 5 Does what it is said to do.

Pros: Easy to install. Quick and easy. Would suggest getting Arctic adhesive to apply the heatsinks. Cools my card greatly. Old fan went out and card was running around 60c once installed ran around 15-16c.

Cons: The heatsinks don't stick that well so you would have to buy an adhesive.

Rating + 5 These are Great Coolers

Pros: The coolers are very easy to install. Please Use Arctic Silver 5 or Gelid Extreme PAste. Also order the Enzotech heatsinks and apply where required for your board. The Fantastic part is the Prior to Install the Fan on my HIS Turbo Ice! IGHZ sounded like a Rocket ship taking off on 75% and I could only keep the temps down to 45 idle and over 60 on game in 75% Fan. With the Sythe idle is 37 and on game 51 on max setting. Keep n max setting. You cannot hear these coolers over your case Fans. I have two one on both Crossfire HIS 4870 cards. I have a HAF 922, so room is not a problem. they stick out about 1/2 inch more than board length.

Cons: Only one. The Fans should be should not have been Hard wired to the Fan control. The Fan control wires go in to the Fan themselves so you cannot Hot plug or change the fans without doing an external fan control if you change the fans. The fans are 100x100x12. I will try to install normal 100x100x25 to see if I get even more cooling effect.

Other Thoughts: Work great for their appearance. They do rock on the VGA GPU even when tightened down. A little scary, but they will not come loose. Alos not. You have no problem with crossfire or SLI. You wil have to get a flexible ribbon for three -way, due to the top of the cooling fins covering your second crossfire or SLI connection.

Rating + 5 Scythe Musashi

Pros: The two 100mm fans blow air over the whole card, and they're pretty quiet, even turned up all the way. The fans have built in controllers, and can connect to 3-pin motherboard connectors or to molex through the included adapter.

In my case, the included heatsinks seem to be stuck pretty well to the places all over the card I applied them. I'm not worried about them coming off.

Cons: It can shift since the connector pins are smaller than the holes on my 4870, which might affect how the cooler sits on the main chip.

Other Thoughts: Newegg doesn't call this "Musashi", which it's known as to most people, as far as I can tell.

The memory temp. sensor tends to be 20-30 degrees higher than the main GPU temp., even with heatsinks plastered all over the card.

Rating + 5 Review update

Pros: This is mainly an update to the review I did on 12/25/09 of the Musashi installed on a XFX HD-489X-ZSFC non reference version of the 4890. I managed to improve the temps in my setup in a few ways. Originally I had the side mounted fan on my case acting as an intake blowing cool air at it since this worked best with the stock cooler. I have since remounted it to act as an exhaust and got a 5C drop (down to 85C) on OCCT's GPU stress test with shader complexity on 8 and max fan speed. Further temperature drop was had by removing the black aluminum support piece along the side of the card, same test now hovers around 78C, and running at a quieter 1500 RPM still manages 85C. My heatsinks are still holding on tight (knock on wood!).

Cons: You may need to use some loctite on the threaded posts where they go into the cooler's base, mine unthreaded when I tried to unscrew the thumbscrews to remove the cooler for fan repositioning and wire management. Wish it came with a wider variety of heatsinks, I made due with the RAM sized ones on each cluster of 3 VRMs near the rear of the board and cut a smaller one to cool the two near the front. I've only found the non adjustable version of the fans used on another site, I worry with them being sleeve bearing against a high heat source.

Other Thoughts: Might be worth your time to investigate your case's cooling setup, I'm finding more negative pressure (exhaust) works better with the Musashi, compared to more positive pressure (intake) for the stock cooler.

Rating + 5 Excellent cooler

Pros: Very Quiet even at full speed on the fans. Cools very well. Does exactly what it is advertised to do. Temps went from 70/80+ Celsius at idle/load to 45/54. Unbelievable.

Cons: This thing is long. I put it on my 9800GT and it was still another inch and a half longer than the board.

Other Thoughts: This cooler is well worth the money. Just make sure you have enough room in your case for it.

Rating + 4 NICE

Pros: Cools the my card very well

Cons: as said before, the adhesive is horrible, i haven't rigged it up yet, but after about 6 tries i finally have the heatsinks sticking enough to try it out. I'm suprised the air from the fans haven't knocked them off yet. gonna try the hot glue method mentioned earlier. wires are kind of a pain.

Other Thoughts: not sure how well the thermal paste is, as i used as 5 on the processor. 9800gt idle temps went down 10 degrees, and gaming went from 80 to 50 degrees. incredible.

Rating + 5 Cucumber cool.

Pros: I was skeptical of this Scythe VGA cooler because my stock Sapphire HD 4870 cooler has three heat pipes, and this cooler only has two. Also, I couldn't decide between this cooler or the Zalman. After reading the reviews, I chose this one. Great choice. Playing Crysis at high settings, my GPU temp fell 16 degrees, and my Memio temps have fallen 20! I am very pleased, this is the performance I was hoping to find in an aftermarket VGA cooler. The fans are also inaudible above my case fans, my stock cooler sounded like a jet taking off under medium stress. Between the temperature and noise reductions, this is one of the best price/performance components I have ever bought for a PC.

Cons: This is definitely not the prettiest component in my case, wires are sleeved in wrap around poly, I will have to properly sleeve later. I wish that I could have plugged the fans into my GPU's 4 pin fan connector so that they could be auto controlled by the ATI software. I have left the manual fan controller at around half speed, which seems to work fine at idle or under load.

Other Thoughts: I followed earlier reviewer's advice and applied the memory heatsinks and let them sit for a couple of hours, which seemed to make them stick fine. Do yourself a favor, don't get sucked in by pretty coolers with LED lighting, this ugly duckling works fantastic.

Rating + 5 Very Nice

Pros: *Cooler than stock
*Quiet @ 100% speed
*Easy to install
*Fans are easily replaced if they go out (120x120x12mm slim type fans)

I put this on my XFX HD-489X-ZSFC Radeon HD 4890. The stock fan on that was very loud no matter how fast it was running. The stock heat sink didn't blow heat out of the case anyway, so I got this. My GPU temperature dropped 16º C (76º->59.5º) under full load.

Cons: * It's very long. (Not annoying enough to remove an egg.)

Other Thoughts: The RAM sinks had no problem staying on. I've read that it's better to stick them on and wait a while before finishing the install, so I put them on and went to work, then came back after many hours and finished the install...and like I said, they stayed on. I've tried putting these same style RAM sinks (ones w/ the sticky tape) on before and failed when I didn't wait a while after attaching them.

Rating + 4 Cool and Quiet

Pros: Cools very well
Very quiet

Cons: VRM Heat Sink Adhesive bad

Other Thoughts: Great Cooler.

I replaced a stock ATI 4850 cooler.
Installation was easy, used my own thermal paste for GPU.

Fans very quiet even on full speed. I tried to hear a difference in the fan noise between full and low speed settings and could not even hear it over the other fans on the system on either settings.

This cooler works great. My idle temps went to 33-35C and under load around 40-43C.
Overclocked to max via ATI Overdrive it stayed around 50C under full load.

The VRM heat sinks WILL FALL OFF if you trust the heat sinks adhesive. After a thorough cleaning I found several of them either fell off right away or fell off when touched gently. Most people installing these on an ATI card will use the stock coolers heat sink for the VRM chips and JUST use this for the GPU. This wasn't an option for the 4850.

I chose to use small blobs of hot glue to adhere each side of the heat sinks to the card. This worked GREAT and was very easy. I HIGHLY recommend this method to sec

Rating + 5 Great GPU cooler

Pros: A lot quieter and a lot more efficient at keeping the gpu core cool than the stock setup. No dB measurement, but max fan speed is barely as loud as 40% on stock cooler to my ears and barely audible over other system fans at ~1800rpm. With FurMark stability test at 640x480 (a higher load than any game I play) max fan speed beat stock setup's auto fan speed (hovering around 80%) by 17°C and even the slowest fan speed was a 5°C improvement. OCCT GPU test at 8 shader complexity would cause my GPU to thermally shutdown with the stock cooler on auto (fan speed maxed), max fan speed on the Musashi kept temps around 90°C and easily endured the full hour of testing.

Cons: Installation can be finicky and may fit somewhat loose since it was made as universal cooler. Thin fins are fragile, repositioning the fans is difficult. Fans are wired to the speed controls without an option to not use them ie. using motherboard fan controls instead. Makes the videocard larger than 2 slot size after install. Does not force exhaust out of rear slot.

Other Thoughts: It fits my XFX HD 4890 ZSFC model (non reference design) without having to use the shim. Using it would probably net me a bit more space to make it easier to hook up/remove the PCIE power plugs, but I'd rather not have another interface between the heatsink contact and GPU core. I used some heatshrink tubing on the mounting posts to take up some of the slack that can make the cooler sit loose, I've seen others using tape for a much more precise fit. The stock cooler dumps some heat into the case as well, so changing to the Musashi didn't increase overall case temps too much, though my North and SouthBridge temps are slightly elevated due to them being right next to the videocard with the heated air hitting them. Stock cooler did not heatsink the RAM or VRMs, but I put some of the included heatsinks on anways, they're still holding after only cleaning the chips with alcohol and pressing down firmly with a slight twisting action.

Rating + 5 Radeon 4870 Savior!!!

Pros: Wow, what can I say. I contemplated getting a new video card because of the heat problems with my Visiontek Radeon 4870 512mb. The stock cooler was so loud, and performed so poorly the card would crash unless I changed the default fan speed on the card to 40%. This cooler on the lowest setting keeps my card 20C cooler under load!

Cons: I was a little nervous installing it. It turned out great though.

Other Thoughts: Stock temps
idle = 70C
load = 89C (yikes!)
noise = easily loudest part of the PC.
Scythe temps
idle = 40C
load = 48-50C Awesome!!
noise = not audible with 120mm case fans running.

Rating + 5 Excellent VGA Cooler

Pros: This replaced a similar setup I had put together on my own, which consisted of a large heatsink with two fans attached to it. This Musashi (SCVMS-1000) is pretty much the same thing, but in a smaller, prettier, and more effective package. It keeps my HD 4870 around 40C to 50C no matter what (Around 5C cooler than my custom one), and it looks much more refined than my homemade equivalent. The fan speed controls on the slot it takes up are very convenient as well. I've found that there is a speed where it's both quiet and effective, but if you ever did need to up the fan speed, it's as simple as turning a knob. All around, an excellent VGA cooler.

Cons: It seems that even when fully tightened, it feels "loose" and can be moved slightly. However, this does not seem to cause any negative impact on the cooling ability.

Rating + 4 Great Cooler

Pros: Wow...My stock EVGA 9800GT was running 57c Idle/75-80c load. After Installing It is now 49c idle and 53c load...huge difference and the fans are much quieter than the stock fan.

Cons: Heatsinks fell right off...You have to use your own thermal adhesive if you want them to stick. I also used Thermal silver 5 on the main chip. The care is huge and the two pipes interferred with my drives. I ended up moving the drive.

Other Thoughts: Despite the heatsink issue I love how cool and quit my set is running now. Tried on Half Life2, Fallout3, TeamFortress2. Now to find a cooler for my Quad Core.

Pros: Very quite

Cons: Will not fit on ATI Radeon HD 5770. I have to cut off 3 copper blade on one side to make it fit.

Other Thoughts: Keep my Radeon HD 5770 down to 60c at full load but at least is quite. The stock fan can cool down to 50c at 100% fan but it sounds like a jet engine.

Rating + 5 Still can't believe how cool this card is now

Pros: Fricken newegg stellar fast delivery, had it the next day.

Ubelievable cooler, I've always used aftermarket cooling on my vid cards and this one just blew me away, 46degrees underload with my 4870. I will be getting a scythe with my 5870 as well when I get one. Have a waterblock for my 4870 but I think I will just get rid of it. The cooling is just that amazing.

Cons: NONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Other Thoughts: Before buying this, I've done research and thought people were eating "special brownies" after hearing how good it was. DON"T DOUBT ANY LONGER this is an AMAZING Cooler.

Rating + 5 HD5000 Series

Pros: Talked to Scythe Support and they have successfully fitted this cooler on a HD5870 videocard. All existing HD5000 series videocards are based on AMD PCB stock design, so it will work for all brands.

It benefits this design where the memory and VRM cooling is done individually, so it is compatible with a larger range of products. It looks like the GPU is in the exact same location on the HD5850, HD5770 and HD5750, so they as well should be compatible, but Scythe wouldn't confirm that without testing it first.

Cons: Free shipping would be nice, but that's what price alert is for.

Other Thoughts: I hope Arctic Cooling will follow suit soon, so that there is more competition and prices will go down.

Cons: I had try to use this cooler with my EVGA 9800 GTX but the memory heatsinks fell off during use.

Rating + 5 Great cooling ability

Pros: I put this on a asus hd 4850 after a week of the stock cooler for comparison reasons. This cooler is hands down the best video GPU/Memory cooler out there. My 100% load temps are never higher then 5c higher then idle.

Cons: Can be tricky to install is you are not the "handy man" type.

Other Thoughts: Unlike other reviewers I have not had any problems with the included thermal tape. I cleaned all of the ram/ram sinks with a coffee filter and 99 isopropyl alcohol. They have stuck since the first time they were applied. I have owned this cooler for a little over a year.

I will be buying a new one for my new Asus: ATI HD 5870!

Rating + 5 Awesome Cooler

Pros: Lightweight. Extremely effective. My Radeon HD4850 went from 56C idle to 35C(fans on low speed). Load temps went from 97C (with Batman Ark Asylum which stresses my card more then any other game) to 46C load..... 46C! That's a HUGE improvement. Now I can start overclocking it! Simply awesome.

Cons: The ram sinks don't stick with the pre-applied thermal tape. I cleaned the ram chips thoroughly with 99% alcohol but they still fell off after short usage. I ended up using a combo of thermal paste with a tiny dab of superglue at the corners. Problem solved. No need to buy super expensive thermal epoxy.

Probably not on purpose but i'm about sick of seeing items I purchase go on sale the day after. Annoying. Also I would have purchased this cooler elsewhere had I not had a gift ceritificate. This cooler is currently WAY overpriced here.

Other Thoughts: There is nothing wrong with the fan control knobs... You simply pull them off when installing the bracket and then push them back on after its installed. I believe Scythe intended it this way and assumed people would use common sense when installing. If Scythe were to have packed the bracket WITHOUT the knobs installed that may have been a better idea but a little common sense goes a long way and I had no problem installing it.

Rating + 5 Works perfect with Nvidia GTS 250 Card

Pros: I was very nerves about this cooler. I spent a week looking for a cooler that is compatible for Nvidia GTS 250 video card. A card that runs way too hot:-( Newegg compatible specs on this card is old. I got confirmation from Scyhe USA Tech support and had it reconfirmed.

I read the reviews and bought Arctic Silver 5 and 99% rubbing alcohol to clean the memory chips and GPU before installing the heat sinks and cooler.

Very easy and straight forward install that took me only 15 minutes to make the change over. Another 10 minutes to reinstall my card due to the huge cooler and the over size fan control knobs. The knobs is about 1/16" too large to fit on the back of the PCI case slots. The cooler fit pretty snug on my card. Normal load temp dropped 21 degrees!!!

Get this cooler!

Cons: Knobs is too large. I had to slightly tweak the PCI case slot to make the control panel fit.

Other Thoughts: I see no other cooler on the market that works with the GTS 250 card. Zalman and Arctic Cooling tech support emailed me that they had no cooler support for the GTS 250 card.

Rating + 3 BFG 8800GT Works Great - Not a Turn Key Kit!

Pros: This cooler is huge, it has the surface area to keep an overclocked card cool and has an adjustable control to modify cooling for the situation. The unit feels heavy and well built, I'd compare it to my Thermalright CPU Cooler. The fins are slightly mobile (they slide only a few mm in either direction on the heatpipes) but this doesn't seem to affect the cooling.

Cons: BIG. MSI P35 Platinum has issues clearing the Southbridge cooler on a 8800GT reference layout card. MOST IMPORTANT: The ram-sink cooling is absolutely NOT acceptable. The included adhesive failed in under 4hrs of light use (heat from the card)-- Even with proper cleaning of each memory chip, the adhesive just WON'T stick. I ended up purchasing Artic Silver's Thermal Adhesive--- and it works like a dream. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THE STOCK ADHESIVE: You will need a thermal epoxy to complete the installation.

Other Thoughts: The cooler is well packaged in a bright retail box. It includes quite a few different size sinks for memory, power, and other cooling needs (beyond the core) and that makes the kit a deal... Even with the requirement of the additional thermal adhesive.

Rating + 5 Great VGA cooler

Pros: Very quiet! Keeps temps of my overclocked Radeon 4890 well within tolerances, and is whisper-quiet. Installation is pretty easy.

Cons: Ramsink adhesive is pretty poor. I just peeled off the adhesive and stuck 'em on with Arctic Silver Adhesive (this is pretty much permanent, however).

Other Thoughts: Installation was pretty straightforward, with the included instructions being sufficient. Keeps my Radeon 4890 under 80C (well within tolerances) even when overclocked to 900/1200. This is with both fans at their lowest setting. I wish that it were a little bit cheaper and that the included adhesive was better, but I haven't seen any other company do better in either of these regards, so I can't knock it down. Just be aware of the adhesive issue and buy Arctic Silver Adhesive, and the cooler will work great.

Pros: All I have to say is it lowered the temps on my 9600gt from 50C to 35C at Idle, and from 70's-80'sC to 45C load. Cant hear a thing. Unfortunately, got this at a competitor for 32bucks free shipping(sorry Egg)

Cons: Sketchy to install, seems loose even when tightened as much as possible, heat sink tape useless on mem sinks. Get the AS Thermal adhesive - makes all the difference.

Other Thoughts: Seemed to rotate a little even when tightened well, but when Asilv5 set it doesn't move now. Lowered my vid temps so much I didn't believe it at first, but it checks out.

Pros: Card with stock cooler was running about 70c. After adding this with the fans set to high, now running about 40c. Was amazed at how well it worked. Will be getting another one for my other machine with the same 9800GT card.

Cons: Heat sink adhesive tape is garbage. Ended up using some thermal adhesive and gluing all the memory heat sinks onto the card. I wouldn't use super glue like in one of the other review. Had to use the copper spacer to make it so I could plug in the power connector to the board. Clearance between the rear fan and my SATA cables was close. about .05"

Other Thoughts: I gave 4eggs because it should have came with thermal adhesive instead of the double sided tape for the heat sinks. ended up spending another 15 bucks on adhesive.

Pros: The heat coming off my 4850 could warm up a small garage on a December morning in Minnesota. No more....this thing really cools it down.

Cons: None really....see Other Thoughts.

Other Thoughts: I had a couple of the heat sinks that just wouldn't stick even after cleaning the chips with acetone. I solved this issue by putting a small drop of Super Glue on each chip....they won't be coming loose any time soon. As far as the sloppy fit on the board, I just used a couple of layers of 3/32 heat shrink tubing on the mounting posts....perfect fit now. I'm accustomed to performing field modifications to so called universal components.

Pros: Everything needed was included & install was a breeze. Both cards idle at 40c and on high-load even with the FurMark card killer running max'd at 60c on a stability test. Very impressed that this card stands up to its claim.

Cons: The extra heatsinks do have a hardtime sticking so far they are still attached but I had purchased some thermal adhesive compound when they do fall off. The backplate is very huge not good for PCI-e slots close to one another, I had to switch to another motherboard, And am no longer able to use an addon card do to this.

Other Thoughts: As other reviewers mentioned the card was really loose with the narrow mounting screws. My solution was to wrap some electrical tape cut in half about 1 inch or so long until they were nice and tight in the cards holes. Would be nice if the backplate was flush with the card.

Rating + 4 works great with 4890

Pros: Lightweight for the size, nice quiet fans! I turned on the stock fan/cooler on my GIGABYTE Radeon HD 4890 just 1 time, and knew I would have to replace it due to noise. This cooler fits just fine on a 4890 (since they are the same layout as a 4870).

Cons: If I could deduct 1/2 an egg instead of a full egg, I would for this issue. The new bracing plate on the back of the GPU that this cooler requires you to use, with the securing nuts, sticks out more than 1/4 inch more than the previous. It made installation into the mini PCI express slots on both sides of the GPU very difficult. I had to remove the metal shroud surrounding my Creative X-Fi sound card to get it to fit, and it misses contacting the board circuitry by about 1/32 of an inch! I also wish it had an option to allow software fan control instead of being stuck with the manual dials. My PC is in my desk, and I can't adjust the manual fan dials without some astounding acrobatics and limb dislocation.

Other Thoughts: People site that the cooler has a loose feel on the GPU. I used the small copper spacer that comes with it (Arctic silver on both sides) and it is very secure. The cooling fins are very thin (easily bent) and somewhat sharp.

Rating + 5 Works superbly on a HD 4770!

Pros: This thing is an absolute beast! Before I got this I was running 4770 (flashed with the Asus TOP bios) at 915/1000 with temps exceeding 94C (and max is 104C)! I put this on there, but it needed a little bit of modding. I had to remove the end caps (the silver lugs which are just glued on there and they do not cap off the heat pipes) just so it will fit. But afterward I had temps of 54-56C (depending of I overclock to 1000MHz!). This baby is beaut!

Cons: There are a few:
- Fins are fragile and bend very easily. Also, they seem to move at little
- The fans have fragile fins to. I bought this off of a friend and in shipping, a fin broke!
- LARGE!
- The fans are a pain to install and the clips are just junk! I ended up just using wire to put them on.

Other Thoughts: I love this cooler. Once you figure everything out it is amazing! I love it and it is no where near as loud as the old stock cooler in the 4770. It is rather silent compared to it and the fans move lots of air! The heat that just comes off is amazing.

Just a little note as well:
If you want to get a different cooler for the 4770, it has 43mm holes so you need a cooler that mounts on that. I believe anything that fits onto a 9600GT is will fit this. But I could be wrong.

Rating + 5 AWESOME!

Pros: I have this on a 4770 (which it does fit after you modify it just a little) and my load temps dropped 40C! I have it overclocked at 915/1000 with asus bios (flashed it and it use to run at 750/800 stock). I idle at 28C and load is 54-55C :D Amazing!

Cons: The fans mounting is a pain in the rear but I just used some wire and worked fine >.>

Other Thoughts: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE POWER FOR BOTH FANS!

Rating + 5 Awesome

Pros: My EVGA 9800GTX was running at 58C idle and 68C+ under load. After I took off the stock HSF and put this on, I haven't seen the temp rise above 44, and it idles around 34. This thing is straight awesome.

Cons: The memory heatsinks dont stick very well. They fall off with any pressure, although I got the card in my case and it seems like they are all still on so we will see.

Other Thoughts: It doesnt make my 9800GTX any bigger. There is a knob that sticks out but thats easily avoided.

Pros: it works great it keeps my ASUS 4830 super cool. i live in the desert and when it gets to over 100F it keeps my card at highest on 56C.(helps to have a fan blow out the hot air out of the case thats right next to the card). has plenty of heatsinks and screws to spare

Cons: nothing

Rating + 4 Great cooler that suffers from a few design flaws

Pros: 1) Cools very well, over a 10-degree drop from the ZeroTherm I had on my Radeon 4850; 2) Very quiet even on highest settings; 3) External knobs to control each fan individually.

Cons: 1) Even securely attached, the entire heatsink has a lot of "wiggle" on a Radeon 4850, due to the screw holes being wider than the included fasteners; 2) Heavy, the rear of my video card sags noticeably. I'd like to see a future version come with a support bracket of some kind to alleviate pressure on the PCI-Express slot for those with standard ATX cases; 3) The external bracket and fan power cables are wrapped, but still create a bit of clutter; 4) Fans are annoying to remove if you want to re-orient the direction of the cabling; 5) The heatsink fins are very thin and you WILL bend them if you try to move the fans around.

Other Thoughts: I know it seems I've listed more cons than pros, but in terms of cooling effectiveness, the Musashi is well worth the money.

Rating + 4 Quiet...Big...

Pros: Large cooling surface area; Instructions had great pictures; feels well made but still light; Quiet and cools my 4870 down to 40C; ram heat sinks stick really well;

Cons: Large cooling surface area (its big); Instructions had great pictures; Had to take the nobs off the fan controller to fit install in my case;

Other Thoughts: Almost didn't fit in my case (Lian Li PC-60BPLUSII); The cooler (when installed) extends nearly 2 inches from a 4870; please please please measure before you buy; I got lucky and I didn't have to return this great vga cooler.

Rating + 5 Great Product

Pros: Card - Gigabyte 9800GTX+ and Antec Solo case. Very quiet, any noise that it does make is drowned out by the noise from other fans in my system, which are not even that loud to begin with. The stock fan was not exceptionally loud, but this is noticeably quieter. Cooling, wow! With the stock cooler my card was running around 34-35 C at idle, now with the fans on the lowest, nearly inaudiable, setting it runs a steady 34 C at idle, so not much change. However under load the improvement is almost unbelieveable. Crysis, for instance, would bring temps into the 60s and even 70s C within 10-15 mins, with no end in sight to temp increase. Now, playing Crysis non-stop for over 1 hour temps are level at between 40-43 C, never venturing above 45 C. I have not tried other games yet, but I except a similar result.

Cons: A bit tricky to install, espeically for someone like myself who is a newcomer to building computers. The directions are better than nothing, but not much better. It's huge and this makes for a tight fit inside pretty much any system I'd guess. It blocks some slots on my mobo because of the size.

Other Thoughts: The price is a bit steep but the workmanship seems good and if you are looking for some cooling muscle this has it (and it's ultra quiet to boot). I only just installed it this morning so I can't give any longterm thoughts, but as of now I'm giving it 5/5 eggs.

Pros: Quiet as heck, and cools my card very, very well. I have an ASUS HD 4850 that ran very hot (near the red line) with the stock cooler. Replaced it with this cooler and saw a 50 degree difference while stress testing! And as if that were not enough, it achieves this cooling without sounding like a jet engine! If you have an HD 4850, this cooler is a must!

Cons: Extends past the end of the long axis of the 4850 an extra inch so make sure you have the room in your case! Also, the cooler can rotate on the chip approximately 1 to 2 degrees; however, the cooler remains in complete contact with the chip always. So aside from being slightly disconcerting there should be no problem.

Other Thoughts: If you own and HD 4850 and you are looking to solve your heating issues than this is the cooler to do it! Installation takes about 10-15 minutes.

Rating + 5 Outstanding

Pros: I installed this over a month ago on an Asus EAH TOP 4850. The stock "Glaciator" HSF that came with the 4850 would cook the card at 90C+ temps at load while playing COD5.

With the Scythe I get 66C with the fans at 50% (completely silent) or 62C with the fans at 100% (fairly audible).

I normally just leave the fans at ~75%, so it still cools great and remains silent (i.e. the PSU fan is louder than the cooler when playing games).

Cons: My case is a HP Pavilion stock mid-tower (the nice looking black case). It's definitely not ideal for gaming and it has very limited air flow. The temps recorded above are with the case closed running COD5 for hours at a time. The dramtic decrease in temps are all because of the Scythe cooler alone.

Other Thoughts: I hate noise, which is sort of contrary to owning a gaming computer. With the Scythe I can play games at full throttle while my system is completely silent.

Even at 100%, the sound isn't really that bad. In fact, even with the cooler at 100%, my system is still MUCH quieter than my friends Antec 900 system with his fans set at low!

By the way, Idle temps went from 50C to 38C and if I leave the side panel off the case, the card never goes beyong 49C during hours of gaming :-)

GREAT COOLER!!!!

Rating + 5 Wonky but Outstanding!

Pros: -Super quiet. Went from loudest to quietest fans in the case
-Easy to install if your current fan comes off easy like mine
-tons of extras in the box
-adjustable fan speed although really no need to go above the lowest setting

Cons: -Big! Much bigger than my rear exahust stock fan which was big in itself
-Once everything is bolted down, the thermalpaste makes the cooler slide around a bit on the processor. It doesnt affect anything but just feels wrong
-$50 is a little steep but its the price to pay to get away from the jet engine i had before

Other Thoughts: -I bought this to replace my super loud fan on my MSI HD3870. My old fan sounded like a jet engine. I cannot even hear this new fan setup. It was very easy to install but it is so long that it hangs a good bit off the end of the card so i have to move my hard drive to fit it. The only thing i do not like about this setup is that is has some slop and even when fully bolted down it slides a couple MM around on the processor.

My temps went from 40-65 to 30-40 so it does its job to the T.

Pros: Cools very well, took me down 10c degrees at full load.
extremely quiet.

Cons: instilation is scary, it doesn't feel secure and kinda wabbles even with screws over tightened. but you can't argue with the end result.

Other Thoughts: because my card is cooler now the ambient temps in my case have dropped helping with the temps on my other componets too.
also the size of the card may be an issue for some, you shold know this is just a little longer than my HD4870 card witch extends the same length as my mobo.

Rating + 5 oh dearie me

Pros: I am so impressed with this thing that I had to jump on here right away to write a review. My idle temps dropped from 64C to 45C and is my computer no longer sounds like a hair dryer. It's virtually inaudible. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am sane again!

Cons: Requires two 3-pin power connections.

Since all of the 3-pin connectors on my motherboard were in use I used the included molex adapter. Unfortunately this solution required attaching a whole new modular cable to my PSU increasing clutter in my case.

Other Thoughts: I installed this on my Powercolor Radeon 4870 and used Arctic Silver 5 in-between the GPU and the heatsink. I did not use the included copper spacer.

I highly suggest cleaning and priming your GPU and RAM with the Arctic Silver Articlean kit.

Rating + 5 Good Cooler

Pros: Using it on an ASUS EAH 4850. Using the stock heatsink I had temps in the high 50s while idle and it would easily hit 80 and higher while playing hl2 or tf2. After I installed this heatsink the idle dropped down to the low 40s and it maxes out around 65 when its fully loaded. It's noiseless when the fans are set to low, when its set to high you can easily hear the fans. I keep them on low anyway so its no problem. The fan speed is extremely easy to adjust, just turn the knobs on the back.
It was relatively easy to install. I also opted not to use the thermal paste that came with it and used Artic Silver instead.

Cons: It was hard to tell when it was fully screwe.d in to the backplate. The heatsink does shift sideways a bit and didn't seem to be 100% secure. But it still fully contacts the gpu.

Rating + 4 Great but too vague in card support

Pros: Cooled my HD 4870 by 10 degrees C at idle compared to stock cooler.

Very quiet compared to stock cooler.

Cons: Very flimsy but still got the job done.

Thermal tape on heat sinks is sticky but doesn't hold that well.

This cooler also didn't perfectly fit my HD 4870. I was able to secure it on but it was still somewhat loose. I had a sapphire 512 card so it might not be your first bet to get this if you have the same card.

Other Thoughts: The video card I had attached to this died shortly after but it wasn't due to this product.

NEVER purchase open box items. Most of the time they have already been to the manufacturer for a problem and you won't have a warranty since it only covers the original owner in terms of my card. Not worth the risk.

Rating + 5 Good XFX 9800GTX Solution

Pros: Loved this cooler - Dropped 9800 GTX stock idle temps from 60c to 35c, and I've never seen it over 38c at load. install was pretty clean with no surprises. Plenty of heat sinks to cover the chips. Way quieter then the stock one even turned all the way up

Cons: Added about 1/4 inch to the length of my already long video card, but not a problem for me at all. The design does not vent hot air directly out of the case like the stock cooler does, and raised my ambient internal temps a modest 5c to 10c.

Other Thoughts: Some people have trouble getting the thermal tape to stick on the chip heatsinks... Just clean the chips well with a bit of acetone or rubbing alcohol and you'll have no problems

Pros: I had this cooler for a few months already, used it on my Radeon HD 3870. With the stock cooler, the temps would sometimes reach 100 degrees C. Now with this It never hits above 48. It's very silent also.

Cons: It doesn't look that great, but it does it's job.

Other Thoughts: If anyone is wondering with how big it is, it takes up a little more than 2 slots.

Pros: This cooler works perfectly. Purchased it for my 4870 and it dropped temps from 71 degrees celcius to 38 degrees celcius! even under load it never goes above 50 degrees. And it is very quiet.

Cons: Installation is a little chintzy. The memory heatsinks slide around a little, but i suspect that after a short while of operation they glue sets up solid. And the actual heatsink for the chip can wiggle a little because the screws that go through the card are smaller than the holes, but this cooler is made for a wide range of cards and is not custom made for just one.

Pros: Huge heatsink, provides great cooling. Dropped my 4870 to 40C idle, 60C load with no annoying fan noise.
Included fan controller allows you to easily set the speed vs. noise level you want.

Cons: Huge heatsink, make sure you have room.
The side extending further from the plate seems to hang a little bit, but not enough to cause issues.

Other Thoughts: I'm running this cooler on my 4870, and was planning to let CCC control the fan speed. The provided plugs and adapters don't fit the board, so I was restricted to using 12VDC from the power supply with the fan controller.
My P182 case fit the cooler, although I would not be able to place a hard drive in the slot next to the GPU.

Pros: it was cheap.... has dual fans with dual fan controls. keeps my 3870 at 35C idle and about 43C loaded which is great compared to 41C to 65C stock cooler.

Cons: the thermal tape on the individual heat sinks were a bit tough to make stick but other than that and it shifting left and right.... none.

Other Thoughts: it does shift left and right a little because the screw holes on the card are wider than the metal rods holding on the scythe cooler which could be fixed with a sleeve of some sort but im to worried right now.

Pros: it works wonderfully on my sapphire 3850AGP. Sadly I needed the copper ship to clear caps on the card, but hey it keeps it at a cool 42C @ full load heavily overclocked and is near SILENT!

Cons: it looks cheap... honestly i wish i hadn't needed the copper shim... and teh fans could blow a bit harder but... I really am just nit-picking.

Rating + 5 Pretty good

Pros: pretty simple to install
dropped my vga temp by 30 celcius
very quiet, even more quiet than the stock vga fan by ALOT

Cons: extends the length of the card by an inch or 2, wasn't a problem for me cause i have the cosmos s case.

Another thing is that is extends the video card by about 3/4 to 1 inch downwards (duno how else to explain it lol) and for me this was a bit of a problem only because my motherboard layout. But i got everything to fix

Other Thoughts: i have a sound blaster x-fi fatal1ty sound card and running a sli 9800 gt setup in a cosmos S case. Not a whole lot of room with 2 of these in. But enough that it fits almost perfect, so just make sure you have a pretty big case if you plan on running these on a sli system like me.

Rating + 5 Best GPU Cooler for the $

Pros: Impressive Cooling ability, Slim design, Whisper quiet, Multi. fan controller connections, Easy install

Cons: Included heatsinks could use better adhesive

Other Thoughts: My main concern was space in my Antec 900 for cooling dual overclocked XFX 8800's in SLI . There's only 1.75" from the lower 8800 to the top of the PWS for the cooler w/fan and air space.

Both cards ran @ aprox. 50c idle and 70c - 80c+ while playing the latest games, (crysis / left for dead, etc...)

After much research on GPU coolers through various Forums and Review sites, I bought 1 Scythe (only because I got it for $23.50,) to test it's cooling ability and fit in my case.

The removal of the OEM cooler and install of the Scythe was pretty straight forward, took about 20min. After re-installing the card there's .25" left for air flow above the PWS, Ykes!. ...time to test the cooler!

AMAZING!! temp dropped to 36c idle and only climbed to 40c after extensive game playing, WOW! The non-cooled 8800 still idled @50c and climbed to 80c+ during same time frame.

Just ordered 2nd one. Great cooler, plenty of air flow and whisper quiet w/fans on high.

Rating + 5 Great cooler!

Pros: -Excellent cooling ability.
-MASSIVE, yet lightweight.
-Tons of vRAM/MOSFET heatsinks included, this kit should fit almost any card with 4 mounting holes around the GPU core.
-The included fans are extremely silent even on the highest settings.
-Nice polished base

Cons: Mounting system is a little wobbly. It applies great pressure to the GPU core but the 4 screws mounting it are too small for the mounting holes, which gives the cooler a little play and can break good TIM contact. The provided copper spacer helped a little, and also provided a little clearence for onboard capacitors and the PCIe power connector.

Other Thoughts: I picked one up at a local store to test it out on one of my vmodded 4850's. ran 33*C idle, 52*C load under furmark. without the two fans on it, the card idles around 45*C and load is 65*C! The only heatsink i've seen do better is a zalman VF1000 with 2 80mm fans zip-tied to it.

Pros: Almost silent, even on the highest fan settings. Dropped my HD4850's temp from 48C idle to 31C idle. I haven't tested it under load yet though.

Cons: Installation is a bit difficult. Instruction manual is in very broken english, but if you read it a few times you'll understand.

Rating + 5 Whew, thank heavens.

Pros: I bought this after seeing my XFX 8800GT Alpha Edition lay about 66C idle temp, and burn up to 98C on load. I'm now running 43C idle and 53C on load. Big difference, plus opens up some headway for overclocking. I am also seing a decrease in case temperature, which is a plus in my small case.

Cons: I have a very cramped mid tower case, and this fan DOES extend your card about an inch. My heatsink now ALMOST touches my hard drive, and, as my title implies, I am very happy I did not have to move my hard drive to a different bay to install the cooler, or make any other adjustments. The thermal paste they provide you with is junk (I used Arctic Silver), and the paste on the back of some of the ramsinks doesnt hold well, so I also applied a little thermal paste to them as well to ensure that they wouldn't fall off.

Other Thoughts: The design requires you to put your fan controllers in an open pci slot, which is fine for me. The directions are pretty bad, so follow them carefully. I was in a bit of a rush when I began to install this sink, but was forced to slow down after doing a step out of order. I like the mounting design, which only requires four screw slots, and therefore is very easy to do.

Rating + 5 Easy to install

Pros: Easy to install on my Asus 4850. Used some Arctic Silver and now my video card runs 30 degrees cooler while playing video games

Cons: Unable to plug both 3 pin fans to 4 pin video card fan header. This is just a minor annoyance. Since you can't use the fan header on the video card it requires you plug them into motherboard fan headers or the power supply. You will not be able to control the fans through ATI or Nvidia software.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you read the directions carefully and understand how to remove the stock cooler that comes with your video card. Cooler requires to power inputs for each fan (3 pin). You probably will have to plug in to motherboard fan headers for the power supply.

Pros: Much better cooling than my stock cooler, very easy to install, thinner than others.

Cons: Effectively makes video card longer--make sure you have space for it in your case.

Other Thoughts: I bought this after I saw my 8800 GT (650 MHz) reach 102 C while playing Dead Space before I freaked out and shut it down. After installing this, my idle temperature decreased from 54 C to 43 C and under load (while playing Dead Space), I have not seen the temperature reach more than 55 C. I didn't use the thermal paste that came with it; I used some Arctic Silver 5. It also does make the video card longer. Luckily the extra length fit into an empty hard drive bay in my case, but it may not be the case for everybody.

Pros: Cooled my Foxconn 8800GTS OC to 41 degrees celsius @ idle. Easy to install, cool fan control. Doesn't take up much more room. Works for tons of different cards.

Cons: Adhesive on memory heatsinks useless, just used my own stuff. Instructions not that great, but barely looked at them.

Other Thoughts: Comes with thermal paste, I used Arctic Silver though. Also it did make my video card another 2 inches longer, but is narrow. Wasn't a problem for me but could be for others.
