Good mids, highs but lows not up to par
Pros: Nice looks Good mids and highs
Cons: Bass sounds distorted even at moderate levels Bass unacceptable at high volume levels
Other Thoughts: The speakers have good looks and reproduce mids and highs fairly well, but the bass would begin to distort even at temperate volume levels. At moderate volumes the speakers themselves don't look to moving to their limits yet the sound they reproduce sounds like one of a much higher volume level. Pretty disappointed in these. In the end there is no true replacement for a sub, even a small 5 or 6 inch one.

Sound and looks with impress
Pros: Very cool looking design while delivering a clean deep bass and balanced sounding drivers that disperse like a 3.1 setup thru a small foot print. Slick shiny black "gas can looking" speakers create a very modern appearance with my 28' Hanns G and Antec 902 gaming rig/media center. Techno sounds very good while HD movies really sound good with the deep bass.
Cons: Retail list 119.00 a bit high, but I bought mine from *rys for seventy-nine with no rebate in April

Good sound quality, nice design
Pros: Very good sound quality for a desktop speaker. The sub woofers do put out a lot of low range sound. Compact design, save me a lots of space.
Cons: Pricey for a desktop speaker.

Cool looking!
Pros: Slick art-deco inspired design. Definitely different from your average desktop speakers. The sound quality is pretty loud for its size. There's little distortion when played moderately. The built in subs at the bottom of the speakers are very heavy bass but the highs and mid-range are sort of a mixed bag. Very easy to set up there's very little wiring to fiddle around with.
Cons: I would say those looking for an audiophile like experience, I'd personally look elsewhere. The sound overall isn't mind blowing but it gets the job done for a 2.1 set up. A digital optical jack would have been nice.
Other Thoughts: This is my first set of speakers from Altec, overall I'm satisfied with my purchase and at the current price, They're a steal! Go get these now!

Very Nice
Pros: Sound nice, look nice, no subwoofer under my desk.
Cons: Pricey for what is essentially a 2.0 setup. Plastic feet do not absorb vibration well
Other Thoughts: Take a sheet of stick-on felt, an x-acto knife and about 20 mins to put some more damping on the stock rubber pads. No more vibrations.

nice
Pros: lound sound. turn on and off very quickly with just a touch. volume buttons are quick and easy to access.
Cons: you cant change the amount of base! sub woofers sorta vibrate the table since they're in the speakers and are too high without using software to lower it. Speakers are larger than they look.

Not for music
Pros: Attractive design, bass sound
Cons: Unbalanced sound, poor acoustics
Other Thoughts: I bought these hoping to get good all around speakers for music and movie watching on our family room computer. I was disappointed with the sound quality. Rock music just sounds like bass guitar and cymbals. The speakers are horrible in the mid-range and music sounds unbalanced. Despite plenty of EQ tweaking, I couldn't get these to reproduce any music worth listening to.

Wonderful product
Pros: Beautifully designed and perfectly executed. Bravo Altec. The sound is as rich and the base is as smooth as with any system with separate sub woofer. Saves space by not having one. Classic, Jaz, Pop, Rock - anything you wish sounds great. Mid and low range are very clear and highs are very decent too. Very futuristic looking. Very Cool. I enjoy them tremendously and am happy I did not buy a system with a stand alone subwoofer.
Cons: Cant find any.. Probably the only thing to get the best sound for any particular genre you should use an equalizer on your computer, but this is true for any speaker out there!
Other Thoughts: Its always hard to find a balance between the specs and the design, but this speakers have it all!

Not bad Altec
Pros: I have owned everything... All of it... you name it... I am not saying these are the best speakers in world because they arent. I am saying if your the kind of person that likes to listen to music at a decent volume in your office, dorm, home etc. and you want quality audiophile performance. Bingo. I would say that they are comparable to the logitech z-2300 without the 200 watt sub. They give a respectable amount of bass. Not a low-rider amount of bass... I am listening to Beethoven's Larghetto with my eyes closed and I see the orchestra. Of course I am running a high bit-rate about 350 kb. Buy these.. simply put
Cons: The only con I can think of is the lack of EQ control. There is a power button and a volume control... If you can work the EQ on itunes you shouldn't have a problem.
