info correction
Pros: works in business enviroment, more capable than home.
Cons: costs too much for upgrade, 99 would be more reasonable imho. microsoft support for mce is buggy sometimes, pro is better.
Other Thoughts: contrary to previous reviews, mce is actually pro with mce extensions. i'm too lazy to look up if networking limits are same as pro or home, but i can say that mce install screens actually say pro until the end of install . . . just thought that might help. also, recommend a fresh install, mce install gives rare unsupported o/s error with some microsoft utilities.

It's XP and it works
Pros: Not much to say, other than it works. I use this in order to run a few older programs that I have.
Cons: Activation
Other Thoughts: XP is XP works very well. I have not had much trouble with Windows over the years as some have. Maybe it is the user and not the software?

MS XP Pro w/ SP2
Pros: Best Microsoft Operating system, I've had no major problems with XP. Excellent GUI for beginners and advanced users. with lower amounts of RAM and the graphical settings at max it does slow down considerably but it's decent. It picks up compatible software and devices with no problems.
- A lot of great software and games for this OS - Easy operating system to install
Cons: - anti-virus software is bloated and takes up a lot of processing power
- themes are limited and aren't that appealing - you can always download new ones though
Other Thoughts: Its not linux but it is a great operating system - the xp professional 64 bit version also is able to pick up 4 gigs of RAM
- If you're like me and like a fast running computer make sure you have 1-2 gigs of RAM for this OS

Waiting for Vista to mature
Pros: Good operating system, easy to install
Cons: Price, needed an additional license. Called Microsoft and they charged me $200. What no discount?
Other Thoughts: none I can share on this site.

It's an OS
Pros: It's better than XP Home for sure. I like having the same GUI that I've used for nearly 12 years. No problems with freezing and crashing.
Cons: We're all inexorably tied to Micro$oft.
Other Thoughts: No, it is not impossible to upgrade a computer to XP Pro from Media Center.

Fresh install
Pros: Faster than win 2000 pro
Cons: Don't like new look. I have web browser, why would I want my os to look like web browser interface. Thankfully it has classic interface option.
Other Thoughts: To a previous user: You CAN upgrade from win 2000 it is the easiest of all the upgrades. Best thing to do is fresh install on reformatted hard drive. No mixing of 2 different os files. Tells how on microsoft support website. Just boot from winxp pro cd, it'll ask for previous os cd once verified it will tell you to put xp cd back in and then install xp.

Pros: Windows is the best OS for the average computer user.
Cons: pretty expensive just for an upgrade.
Other Thoughts: keep in mind that this is an upgrade and not the full product.

Pros: xp pro is the best os out there!the problem is that mce is a glorified version of home, therefore a lower grade os than pro!
Cons: to upgrade to pro with mce , you will have to delete the mce partition before install of pro!if you do it the right way it will work!
Other Thoughts: also if need be, you can take a full version of xp home & install up to cd key entry, then install a fresh upgrade of xp pro!

Works as it should
Pros: Easy interface and connectability
Cons: Can't upgrade from win2000 or XP Media Center.
Other Thoughts: Why buy a computer with Media Center if you are planning on upgrading to Pro. You should go with Pro straight up!

Cannot Upgrade from XP Media Center Edition
Pros: None
Cons: Microsoft never tells you that you can't upgrade to XP Pro from XP Media Center which is basically XP Home with some additional programs. Then after you open it and find out that you can't install it, you can't return it.
Other Thoughts: If you buy a computer with XP Media Center and you decide that you want to try a little programming with .NET, SQL Server, Web Pages, etc. then you're screwed.
