Rating + 5 a very good scanner


Pros: This scanner is compact, slim, and no power adapter, it is fast and quiet when scanning. Well, it is very subjective as it is a comparison to my previous scanner, which is "Genius ColorPage Vivid Pro USB". Some may have a faster scanner previously, so this scanner is slower in comparison.
Anyway, it is faster and lesser noise than the older one, also the scanner reacts fast when I press either the preview or scan button on the driver software. Love this kind of fast reaction, no unnecessary waiting.
The z-lid function is a smart feature for scanning thick stuffs like a thick book. Didn't have a chance to test it yet, but I know how it works.

Cons: not many cons I can see for these kind of features and performance with this price. This scanner is for light to medium use. I scan documents and other stuffs from time to time for keeping records.

Other Thoughts: For normal scanning, I just use the scanner driver with other photo manager software like ACDsee, works perfectly. I tested the one button copy feature, love it. The MP Navigator EX 2.0 runs automatically, scans the paper, and then sends the image to the printer directly - I don't need to do anything (besides switch on the printer), and the printout copy is pretty good.
Get this scanner because the older one doesn't have WIA driver for vista and win7 (discontinued for 5 years), so I may as well as get a new one for the coming upgrade to win7.

Pros: great price, small, pretty fast, USB only - no power cord needed. Works in WIN7/64 bit.

Other Thoughts: Read some reviews of this scanner and thought it would be worth the price. I recently upgraded from XP and my old scanner had no driver in WIN7. Take note that the one touch buttons DO WORK in WIN7. You just need to visit Canon's site and download the MP pdf editor software.

Pros: It was immediately recognized by Win7 and Ubuntu. It's quick, runs off USB power. Works just fine without a powered USB cord on most computers. Pretty thin and very light.

Cons: Can always be thinner right? Maybe make a lock for the lid. If it is this thin and light, it's meant to travel.

Pros: Slim size, USB powered, no external power required, simple operation, good image resolution.

Cons: no software, very little operational direction, buttons on the unit can't be utilized, limited operation in Windows 7, no software update available.

Other Thoughts: I've always thought highly of Canon products, this unit is no exception. Reasonable cost, fast scanning and good image quality make this a good unit. It could use more functional capabilities than the current drivers supply.

Rating + 3 Good but results are upside down and astigmatic


Pros: Compact, good, software, convenient buttons on front, good scan time, quiet, does what a scanner is supposed to do. Good scanner for the price. Can't comment that much on color accuracy as I haven't really gone there yet.

Cons: Why, but why does it scan everything upside down?? You either have to insert the document upside down, or flip it in Acrobat Reader or image viewer after the fact. I do not get it. I am tempted to make references to druhgs (why is this word not allowed?) but I am pretty sure that's not the case. Anyway, this aspect is annoying. The other problem is that if you scan anything round (for example a 45rpm vinyl record), it will compress it making it an oval instead of a true circle. So this thing has astigmatism. There is also a superfluous window that appears, that doesn't need to.

Other Thoughts: I think I should have bought the Epson that was today's Shell Shocker.

Pros: Good Price. Slim Design. Quite operation. Easy Setup.

Cons: Leaves a line on the edge of the scanned document.

Other Thoughts: I had to purchase a new scanner to go with my new computer than had 64 bit windows 7 OS since my old Epson Perfection 1250 was not compatible with windows 7 64 bit.
Not only did the Canon cost mush less than the Epson but is much less noisy during the scan. Scans pretty good for the price paid.

But when they throw in deals that include free shipping, combo's, coupons, whatever.......overall, they can't be beat.

Pros: Its small and quiet

Cons: Everything that I scan comes in with a pink hue that needs to be color corrected in photoshop.

unit shuts itself down when not in use. The Buttons are unresponsive and windows cant see it. The scanner wont wake up until you pull the plug out of the back and then push it back in.

Pros: I was looking for a desktop scanner for my home because I got tired of running over to Kinkos everytime I wanted to scan something. After doing some research I decided to purchase this model due to the extra features and software it came with. it works great out of the box and I haven't had any issues yet.

Pros: Doesn't need an external power supply. USB power only. When saving pdfs allows you to scan in the next document and attach to the previous for a multipage pdf even though there isn't a document loader. Windows 7 drivers are available from the Canon website.

Cons: Kind of loud, but not enough to really bother you.

Pros: good quality in scanning, different futures such as copy, scan, create pdf fast.. and also you don't need a power cord, just the usb and ready to go!

Cons: have problem in the end of 4 side of the edge in the scanner. so if you put a letter or photo that use all the side of the paper is not going to scan this part because the led doesn;t pass thru the end of the edge.

Rating + 4 Don't Be Afraid of the Low Cost


Pros: I scan pictures, receipts, anything- they all look great. I'm not a pro, but was going to buy a more expensive scanner because I'm an enthusiast. I def made the right choice getting this cheaper one- works awesome. Very quality scans. Much better than my old Brother All-In-One that I had to trash because printer broke... stick with standalone. USB power is amazing... I hide away the scanner when I don't need it and I love not having to find a power outlet when I break it out. It's fast enough. My work HP scanner is quicker, but this is good enough for random or limited use.

Cons: Software is clunky and you must be computer knowledgeable to get it set up right (took me a day). Also, sometimes when I press one of the scanner buttons, the driver software doesn't automatically start- I'll have to manually start the capture program then repress the buttons. Annoying.

Other Thoughts: This is not good for a headless PC, e.g. my WHS, because the Canon capture software requires user input. I suppose you could remote desktop to input, but then why wouldn't you scan to local host?

Pros: out-of-the-box perfect... no software needed with Mac OS X Snow Leopard, works perfectly with Image Capture without installing "proprietary software" from the CD... love that it's power-over-USB so theres no extra cord mess... lightweight and quite portable... supports scanning in Millions of colors or Billions of colors

Cons: a bit of buzz from the scan motor, but no worse than any other similar scanner... wish the lid was slightly heavier to hold down bowed or bent photos and pages, but about the same as similar scan lids.... wish there was a white version to match my iMac.

Other Thoughts: I wish this came in an 11"x17" version for larger scans or more scans-per-pass since I use Image Capture's "Detect Separate Items" feature to scan multiple photos at once. Scanning photos IS my business and this gem is a great new addition to my hardware lineup.

Pros: I bought this from New Egg in May 2009, but honestly first opened it and installled the software on Sept 7th, 2009, because I thought my wife needed it, but she did not. I am glad, because I can personally use it for old USAF photos, and save them. The unit allows effortless scanning, and selection of several formats in which to save. It has some great software, which allows the photo to be cropped, and the quality modified for better results. I scanned in a 5 x 7 photo from the mid 60's, and it produced a 9 MB photo that allows an enlargement with excellent quality and detail. I am happy and impressed. It is good that it worked well, because I had passed the 30 day return window when I first used it!

Cons: None at all.

Other Thoughts: I believe it is well worth the cost. I am very satisfied.

Rating + 5 Cannon LiDE 100


Pros: I purchased this unit to replace a old Canon N650U scanner that was never going to be compatible with Windows 7. The price was unbeatable and the unit arrived quickly, in perfect condition. I had already deleted the old scanner and uploaded the latest software from the Canon website. When I plugged it in the USB, it came right up and worked on the first try. I find the new Canoscan software to be much improved with many options to choose from. It will take a while to configure the options you prefer but is well worth it. The scanner sits on my desk, and the footprint is almost exactly that of my old scanner. I have now made many copies with the LiDE and they always come out perfect, if I first set the options properly. The print quality is good for almost any application the average user might have. I recommend it for all you budget minded people out there.

Cons: The scan motor (speed) when running back and forth is slower than I hoped for. It is acceptable if you exercise some patience. I have a old Canon 5000F scanner and it runs somewhat faster than the LiDE. It doesn't matter too much unless you are running a large job, then it becomes evident.

Other Thoughts: I don't like the all-in-one units for several reasons, so this was a good choice for me.

Pros: What a great scanner. I bought one for my PC and liked it so much, I ordered a 2nd for my wifes PC. The price was excellent, I have had scanners that were 2 to 3 times the price that were just downright frustrating trying to manipulate the scanned files. The software was so user friendly.

Pros: Outstanding scanner. Makes perfect copies of stuff. Can scan directly to the printer for direct copy. Features are what you come to expect from modern scanners. Vista compatible. Last scanner wasnt, this one is perfect for it. Great driver support. No uneeded junkware in the driver installation.

Pros: Slim and needs only USB to power it which I like. Always had good luck with their scanners although I don't do "heavy" scanning, but always worked when I needed it to. Canon seems to keep their software updated on their website and their 64-bit drivers for Vista will work with 64-bit Windows 7. Fast enough for my needs and seems to scan a decent image. Software is easy enough to figure out.

Cons: Didn't win it as a prize. Not long enough to scan legal sized paper or the 4 foot long receipts (the ones you get for rebates that you need to make a copy of from other stores).

Other Thoughts: This scanner replaces my Lide-30 Canon Scanner which wouldn't work with Vista or Win7 64-bit systems. For this scanner I installed the software, rebooted and computer froze on the first restart. Not sure why the lockup but doing a CTRL+ALT+DEL and selecting a reboot fixed the problem on the restart.

Pros: It scans. Drivers support Windows 7 64bit. USB powered!

Cons: The (white part of the) tray cover sometimes fails to cover one edge of the scan and that part of the scan will appear black instead of white. I have to slightly push the cover in that direction to make it properly cover the entire scanning surface. In other words, the scanner is kind of flimsy.

Other Thoughts: Every time I try to scan a $20 bill (hey I got bored), the scanner will stop part way and cancel the scan. I think this is a design "feature" to prevent someone from trying to make counterfeit bills.

Pros: This is a great scanner. I'm very happy with the features and color quality. The bundled software gets the job done for my needs in scanning as .jpg's and .pdf's. Great price too.

Cons: I wish it had an on/off switch even though it is USB powered.

Other Thoughts: My CanoScan LiDe 70 died, so I bought this unit to replace it. I like that it is much more quiet than my older version.

Pros: Decent speed, easy to setup, USB powered, slim design, lightweight, easy to use, quick warmup, etc.

Cons: There's a previously mentioned issue with the lid. On some of the larger scans you can see a little line where it doesn't "seal" 100%. Again a minor annoyance.

Other Thoughts: I bought this scanner for my mother because she got into Facebook'ing with long lost family members, etc. I wanted to buy her an easy to use scanner that didn't need to be super powerful, the most feature packed, etc. Mainly I was just concerned about ease of use, etc. On a recent trip I showed her how to use it and she can use it by herself without supervision. So in that regard it worked out just fine. If she can use this scanner, I think anybody can.

Pros: small, no power supply to mess with, super easy 1 button scanning, comes with a decent software bundle

Cons: you have to press the scan button for about a second or so to get it to scan, edges on the glass have a lip that catches the pictures

Other Thoughts: The 2 cons are minor at best, there is really nothing I can complain about. I am scanning about 2000 pictures & this makes it very quick & easy. It will detect all of the different pictures & save them individually. The ArcSoft Photo Studio gives you a lot of easy retouching options that can help get rid of scratches & other imperfections. All in all I really like the scanner & you can't beat it for the price.

Other Thoughts: I scanned in two cruise books from my tour in the Navy 30 years ago. EAch book was approximately 60+ pages and it handled them all with ease. The pictures were very nice considering the source material.

Pros: Gets its power from USB. The black looks better with my computer than my previous CanoScan n670u, which was grey with a purplish-blue lid. It's able to scan my pencil drawings without glare on the pencil.

Cons: No Linux support. I use Linux about as much as Windows so it's annoying that when in Linux I have no scanner. Of course I could have checked before I bought it, but my previous Canon scanner works perfectly in Linux.

Other Thoughts: I have a CanoScan n670u which works great. I bought this one since Canon didn't make a 64-bit driver for the n670u, and I want to be able to use a scanner when running 64-bit Windows. I've had the n670u for over 5 years and was surprised how much little difference there seems to be between its specs and the LiDE 100's specs.

Pros: USB powered, easy to use: passes wife test, software package not too bloated, low price. Scans directly to .pdf format. Speed seems fine

Pros: You cannot beat the size and mobile footprint of this scanner. Also a plus that it takes the mini-usb connector. No power cord. Software was surprisingly versatile, allowing you to adjust the actions of the buttons.

For the price you cannot beat it.

Cons: No great for photos. Leaving small white specs on scanned photo. I've cleaned it but still, same results. Not a problem if you are just scanning documents and such.

Pros: Out of the box, worked on both my Macbook and my PC. Easy and quick to set up. You can use your own software or the included software bundle. For a few simple pdfs, the included software was great. I use photoshop for the images I scanned, and the quality met my expectations.

Cons: The outer shipping box was huge. The scanner itself comes in a tiny box. Seems kinda wasteful to put such a small box into such a small box.

Pros: Just received the scanner and installed it... only a few scans so far, but they have lived up to expectations. It replaces my 9-year old Microtek scanner whose bulb finally burned out (and is a PITA to replace). Quality of the scans has been fine for my needs. Newegg's usual great service!!

Cons: None directly related to the scanner or the software.

Other Thoughts: All I can say is RTM! I didn't read the installation instructions and plugged in the scanner to the USB port before installing the software. It did not install all the plug-ins for use with Photoshop, and it also locked up my computer, mouse and keyboard. MY BAD... not Canon's or Newegg's. I simply uninstalled all the associated software, unplugged the scanner, reinstalled the software and plugged in the scanner. Everything is now working properly.

Other Thoughts: We really like this scanner. We have three computers so having it powered by USB is extremely helpful. We just keep it stored away and then take it out and hook it up easily to whatever computer we need it on. Mostly been scanning documents to convert to PDF, but also to make digital copies of CD labels for MP3 cover art. It works great...no problems yet! Works a LOT better than the $800 scanner I bought 15 years ago, that's for sure! My only con is sort of nitpicky because the unit is working great and the sounds it makes are apparently normal, just weird. ANyway, if you need a good quality scanner that's portable and easy to use, I think this one is a winner!

Other Thoughts: One of my computers running Windows XP Pro 32-bit won't recognize it for some reason. Hooking it up to another station with the same OS it worked.

After doing some research it has something to do with how many scanning devices you've had previously. I'm sure a reformat would take care of it.

Pros: No external power needed, small size, and easy compatibility with Vista.

Cons: Scanning speed could always be faster, but models twice the price are the same speed so it's an excellent bargain overall. Also I haven't figured out how to use the Scan, Print, Copy, Pdf buttons in front, but maybe there are instructions in the manual.

Other Thoughts: I got this to scan all my bills and important files. This small scanner--combined with Acrobat Pro and a hard drive--has essentially taken the place of a whole file cabinet. Awesome!

Pros: Nice finish and packaged well. Package can be used to transport the device. Quick and quiet for the price. Much nicer than my N650U which this is replacing. Good interface with a good amount of options. Love having multiple cropping windows.

Cons: Advertised as having 2400x4800 opticle resolution, but I'm only getting the option of up to 1200x1200 dpi. I will have to research to get it to function fully, but 1200x1200 dpi is more than sufficient for most purposes, so it's not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: The rack and pinion mechanism is much more solid than the mechanism in my previous scanner and I love the black. I only installed the drivers so I don't know about the software that comes with it, or the front buttons. I use Acrobat (worked well for scanning in my W-2s) and Photoshop among others and just scan through them. This scanner plays nice with all my software so far.

Rating + 5 Great Little Scanner


Pros: Nice little scanner. Small & thin so it'll fit in my laptop bag. Not as fast as other scanners but fast enough.
Got it for $59.00 from NewEgg.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I was looking for a backup usb cable and went back to this scanners page and it's now priced at $89 which I say is still worth it for such a nice, portable scanner. I love the fact that it's powered via a usb connected diretly to your computer. No need to find an external power source. And as always, NewEgg shipping is the best, ordered on Monday, got it on Wednesday.

Pros: Inexpensive, small footprint, ease of use, USB power, EnergyStar compliant, COPY function, ability to save scan as PDF file.

Cons: Only scans at up to 600 DPI, so if you need higher resolution, this is not the scanner for you.

Other Thoughts: I especially like the COPY function. The unit scans and sends the image directly to my Canon PIXMA iP4200 printer which is VERY convenient. I've scanned both photographs and newspaper articles with very nice results. For the money, this is probably the best value out there - you can't go wrong with this scanner.

Pros: Copied the my photos correctly and the software was easy to use.

Cons: Could scan a little faster.

Other Thoughts: For the price it works great. I don't use it much but it is nice to have and when i was scanning some family photos it worked great. Not really the best if you have a project to scan a bunch but good for the one offs.

Rating + 5 Nice Scanner


Pros: Scans both documents and or photo's automatically. Can use either the scan button on the unit itself, or use the software's scan button instead. USB powered worked great, even after using it with an 15 foot cable with it.

Cons: None Really.
