Good if you like fires and melted plastic
Pros: The ones that didnt melt or start on fire were ok....
Cons: We have had sevral of these units melt where the PCB bord is and one accually started on fire. We have pretty good power where we are so we are stumped as to why this is happing. APC was quick to denie that it was their fault and offered no support.
Other Thoughts: We have since switched to Eaton/Powerware and havent had a problem since.

Noone Ever Got Fired For Buying APC
Pros: This is the one to get if you are looking for a dependable, inexpensive UPS. Make sure you get the BE350R model -- the "G" has two less outlets and less backup time.
I've used APCs -- this version and others -- for years and never had a problem.
The software is amusing, but generally not necessary. If the power goes out, you have plenty of time to shut down the system. Use the software if you are doing things that are unattended.
Cons: The annoying beep when the power blips scares the dogs.

DONT buy this!!!
Pros: Sometimes it actualy shuts down just my computer on battery power. Sometimes wards away light power flux.
Cons: The List: I live on a ranch and the power out here in the sticks has LOTS of Brown outs! Almost daily. sometimes 5 times a day. Electrical noise is bad for sensitive electronics. A really good surge protector, but the battery only worked when it wanted to. Plus I have cats, and they like to step on that little button thing and turn off my computer outright. I'm like c'mon man! What kind on doodoo is this?
Other Thoughts: Software was good; removable battery good; otherwise it was unreliable, unpredictable, and inconsistent.

Worst UPS ever made
Pros: almost works as an oversized power strip.
Cons: lasts a fraction of the already listed time. It would run a 20 watt load for up to 20 seconds. Battery died after a little over a year. Outputs continuous, piercing tone when it detects a bad battery. It's currently making me feel nauseous as I type this.
Other Thoughts: I paid double what newegg currently has this listed for, but I wouldn't even pay that for this item. Other companies make excellent products in the $50-$100 range. Avoid the ES series from APC.

Killed My PSU
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Disturbing marketing technique. 350VA does not equal 350W While I did not read everything (my fault), I plugged this system into my 300W Thermaltake power supply. It fried my PSU the first time I had a power outage.
Other Thoughts: APC keeps sending me fliers after all these years, but it will be a cold day before I buy anything from them again. In science a 1 Volt * 1 Amp = 1 Watt. APC is advertising imaginary power. I suggest paying them with imaginary dollars.

Absolute JUNK, I'll never buy APC again!
Pros: Will probably throw sparks when I smash it on the pavement.
Cons: Everything else. It totally fails as a battery backup. Any time the power flashes, my computer shuts off, and the unit beeps. If I unplug the backup from the wall, it will maintain power, but if the (wall outlet) power flashes or goes out, it won't even attempt to keep my PC going. Worthless.
Other Thoughts: I only have one thing tied to the battery (the PC). There's just no excuse for such a huge load of crapola. Lucky me didn't get a chance to test it for 15 months (no surges/outages), so it was well out of warranty before I discovered it's faulty. And I payed over $100 for the stupid thing because it was new at the time (from Office Depot).

Cheap, that's about it
Pros: Cheap. Good layout of plugs if you have lots of power bricks.
Cons: I don't know how APC come up with the operational times for their units. It will run a 20 watt computer and one hard drive for less than three minutes. That's quite a bit less than the 9min at 100 watts that they claim.

no time
Pros: Cheap, physical size is right and the software is comprehensive.
Cons: This unit (and every APC UPS product I have used) are absouletly terrible for their intended purpose and ratings. They must rate their units on the best case of every possible parameter. If they rate it at 350 VA is probably should be rated at 100 VA. Do I say this without an understanding of VA or the numbers? No, I am an EE and have years of electronics design under my belt. I have Frankenstined these with larger batteries, and the firmware still will not acknowledge the extra capacity based on decline of base voltage dV/dt and instant current draw. My high $ test equpment confirms actual power usage of the machine. The battery life is just terrible. In my tests a 140VA draw is getting 2.5 - 3 minutes before the unit shuts itself off. (we bought 8 of these)
Other Thoughts: A UPS is essential in a corporate environment where you find power dropouts of 1.5 seconds or less to protect your data and the low cost power supplies. All I want is about 2 minutes and enought time to allow for a gracefull shutdoown following that. Every APC UPS I have bought (not just this model) suffer from marketing representing the unit as more capable than reality shows its performance. The power, when supplied is just fine and their quality is excellent. If you want their products just under rate them by 50% at least to size what unit you actually need.

decent, but buggy logic
Pros: small, cheap. good layout of outlets.
Cons: after about a year, a surge/brownout would cause this unit's buzzer to go off continuously until it's power was cycled. Even if power was restored within a few seconds. So I'd end up having to shut down my PC anyway just to silence the dumb thing. Very annoying to me & my co-workers!
Other Thoughts: Haven't had the same problem w/ their higher-VA models.

Great protection
Pros: What can I say, you plug the thing in and it works! The build quality is great. The printing on the unit is easy to read. It has plugs for battery and power serge protection and other plugs for just serge protection.
Cons: Just like all battery back-up, you have to replace the batteries after 5-8 years. Fortunately they are inexpensive.
Other Thoughts: I got this for my Vontage router and cable modem so if the power goes out, I still have phone service. It should stay up for hours because they only pull a little power.

Not for backup power use.
Pros: I bought this product for protection, not backup. If you have a system that runs at higher power (450W+), a UPS is a must against voltage spikes and brownouts. Surge protectors are good against lightning strikes, but the automatic voltage regulator in a UPS is a must. Before I used a UPS, my refrigerator kicked on and fried my motherboard. Surge protectors do not protect you from that.
Cons: The battery MIGHT give you enough time in the event of a blackout to save and shutdown safely, but don't count on it. This is good against intermittent blackouts and brownouts only.
Other Thoughts: If you live in an old apartment or a not so reliably wired building, you absolutely need one of these.

Pros: Size, outlets.
Cons: Units only last for approximately 1 year and self destruct. Low wattage handling. Cannot power up monitor and PC at the same time, otherwise will trip protection.
Other Thoughts: In a business environment, on roll around PC's these units do not hold up. When they fail, the power mosfets explode and melt off of the circuit boards causing a fault indicated by a constant beeping tone. We had 6 units. All 6 units were replaced by the end of the year with higher wattage units.

Awesome Backup
Pros: This is one of the best backup products I have used with my PC. It will continue to run my PC on full load for over a half-hour so I have a chance to save and shut down.
Cons: Wakes me up when the power goes out.
Other Thoughts: I accidently dropped it down the stairs right after I bought it and there was no damage at all when i looked over it. VERY DURABLE!

Always Works
Pros: I actually have two of these mine being this one the lesser. Lots of power-outs where I live and this has saved me from over 30 blackouts from losing data, i either save and shutdown or it will wake me up (I choose that setting) so I can save and shut down, or it does it automatically if I wanted.
Mine lasts about 17 minutes but if i turn my monitor off it will be 25 minutes, I have a 19" LCD that uses a lot of its power.
Cons: Its pretty heavy and not fun to bring to places you have projects to do, like freelance work. It is good however if you just keep it in one place.
Other Thoughts: Also i keep my router and modem plugged into this so when power outs i can turn it back on for about 17 minutes to see what the storm is like if needed, its always nice to have.

Pros: I use it for just my cable modem, router & a switch. It does a good job keeping my network powered & protected.
Cons: Much too small for a computer
Other Thoughts: Could also plug in a cordless phone base to keep the phones working. Eliminates the little office hassles every time the power blinks

Know your specs!
Pros: My 500 watt model (BF500U) has worked flawlessly for 6 years...battery just went dead...this is normal life.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: Ref 7/17 review. This unit is rated for only 200 watts max power output and a UPS time 9.7 minutes at half power, 100 watts. Battery power is not linear: double the power output from 100 to 200 watts gives approx. one-fourth the time (about 2.4 minutes duration). Assume your PSU is actually running at half power, 210W and your CRT is running at 4A or 480 watts (my 17” CRT is rated for 2A), the total is 700W. Double watts, 200 to 400, get about 36 seconds duration. Double output watts again, 400 to 800, get 9 seconds. This assumes the unit doesn’t die first from the overload. You wouldn’t buy a 6cyl PU to pull a 32ft fifth-wheel camper and wonder why you couldn’t get out of the driveway.

How long does the battery last?
Pros: None.
Cons: These units gave me 7 seconds of battery power. Mind you, I have a 420 power supply on my PC and a 22" CRT. Only 7 seconds?
Other Thoughts: I purchased two of these a month ago. Should've bought a better unit.

Good home sized unit
Pros: This is a good unit for home use. Provides decent protection against brownouts and brief power outages. Compact outlet layout lets you use two big transformer bricks without blocking outlets.
Cons: Battery life isn't the longest, but enough to let your computer shut itself down gracefully in the event of an extended outage.
Other Thoughts: If you're protecting anything more than one computer or have a big power hungry gaming system, go with a bigger UPS.

problems here
Pros: Looks, layout, software.
Cons: Absolutely horrible tech support! I could explain but space limitations here. Replacement would not hold charge. Returned both. Thought APC would be a good brand to buy but I will never buy another APC product.
Other Thoughts: Need to fire some support employees.

Pros: provides battery backup power, and notification of status over USB port.
Cons: only about 9 minutes of battery-time for one relatively low-power consumption (45 w) device, a Infrant ReadyNAS RNV1.
Other Thoughts: The battery time here is really minimal. Good for avoiding brownouts and other quick power problems, but not for anything more than that.

Great Product
Pros: I've had this product for at least 5 years and never have had a problem with it. It has saved my computer on several occasions with the frequent power outtages in my area in the past year. I would recommend it to anyone! Especially at this price, it was $100 when I purchased it years ago.
Cons: Can't think of any.

Don't buy this one
Pros: Works as advertised, for a while.
Cons: I have two of these. The battery life is bad on this model. One died after about 10 months, other is about 4 months old and the battery is weak in it. Replacement batteries always seem to be "out of stock" from APC. I also have a 750 VA model from APC that is over 2 years old and it is still working perfectly.
Other Thoughts: Buy the 750 VA

Does well enough
Pros: Peace of mind from unreliable power. Good number of outlets
Cons: Actual power output is nowhere near the 9.7 minutes @100W load listed. the battery only lasted 4.5 minutes at 80W load. But of course no one is getting a 200W battery to work through blackouts.
Other Thoughts: it does it's job well, powerchute software is alright but could be better.
Ran a desk lamp for 2 minutes :-D

Pros: Got it to keep 2 servers (P4 1.3G & celeron 2.2g) & a wifi AP w/ no down time. Battery time w/ those is about 6mins which is more than I expected.
Cons: APC software doesnt give how much load is on the battery outlets & the estimated backup time is pretty far off. Recharge time seems a bit high for the small battery.

Pros: APC quality as I have come to expect. Easy to set-up and perfect operation out of the box. Battery change much easier than the older models I replaced. Flat wall plug allows desks to keep close to wall.
Cons: None.
