Good Quality!
Pros: I run the IT department for a small startup. I purchase these for all the servers and high end desktops, about 13 total. I've never had any problems!
Cons: It's stepped square wave AC. Not terrible, and certainly normal in this price range. No stepped square wave UPS is able to power a PC with an active PFC PSU. You'll need a sine wave output model for that.
Other Thoughts: The APC software that comes with this Back-UPS unit is better than the software with the BE models.

No support
Pros: Good looking design. Plenty of receptacles. Quiet. Clearly visible status indicators. Decent software.
Cons: We have owned 3 of these for about a year. We use them on departmental servers. Yesterday 1 failed during an outage at 9AM. It simply fails to switch now. No indication from either the software or onboard status that there is anything wrong with it. Contacted APC via e-mail, over 24hrs no response.
Other Thoughts: My trust in the brand has dropped. We use about 100 of thier lower end UPSs for desktops. 3 of them have actually smoked and melted down (I mean molten plastic casings) during power failures in the last year.

Great little unit
Pros: Great little unit for keeping your computer, monitor, switches, modem, ect running during outages and brown outs. It is expandable. With the add-on battery I can run for hours when the power goes out.
Cons: Not really a con but just note that this thing is heavy. It has a battery in it. Also you cant power the fridge with it. Bummer.
Other Thoughts: Get this AND the add-on battery pack. plenty of power. May not work for some really high end computers that draw more power. (think 1000 Watt Power Supply, 4 video cards, and multiple monitors)

Pros: Powerful, expandable, reliable. Estimates 32 minutes of runtime for my computer when idle. As long as I'm awake and someplace I would notice a power failure I would have more than enough time to do any saving/backups/etc before shutting my system down with time to spare. Emits very little noise for short power drops. Not too flashy either - I didn't need a device with a lit display on front.
Cons: Occasionally the software pops up a little notice saying it can't contact the device over the USB port. This lasts a few seconds then resolves itself. Since it always fixes itself right away that in itself is no problem but the popup can be annoying if it comes up while you are doing something in full screen mode (gaming for example).
Other Thoughts: I made the mistake in the past of buying a much smaller unit at a brick and mortar competitor simply because it was on sale and I had long wanted a UPS. The thing was it overestimated it's capacity on the back (no watt rating just simply a chart with "typical" computer configurations) and could never handle my PC during a blackout. It would immediately overload and shut off emitting a horrible alarm. This UPS was purchased with overkill in mind so that in the future I would not find myself in a situation where I upgrade my system just over it's capacity.

Great UPS
Pros: Exceptional quality; I've never had problems with an APC UPS. I've got a dual quad-core 3.2GHz Mac Pro w/dual 1TB drives connected to it and it works almost flawlessly. Why "almost flawlessly"--see my "con" below:
Cons: The only problem with this and their UPS in general is that the software is NOT compatible with Intel-based Macs, so the software is useless for OS X 10.4/10.5. I have OS X 10.5.2 and while you can install the software package, the preference pane doesn't work--and since Intel-based Macs have been out for 18 months now, I consider this shameful on APC's part. Otherwise, I would've given it a 5-star rating!

Stay awafrom this one
Pros: Case style
Cons: I have had four of these take a dive in 2 years. Three were replaced by APC , waiting to see if #4 will be. All have failed while all connected equipment was turned off. All tripped the house 20 amp breaker and showed the unit to be over loaded. I worked as a communications electronic tech for a local government that used 50+ APC UPS with no failures (not this model). I have 4 other smaller one that are over 3 years old with no failure. This one is is not up to APC standards and should be avoided at all costs.

3rd time was the charm (well almost).
Pros: When I finally got a proper unit, I found it to have a decent battery life and it dealt with my manual power loss test (unplugging the cord) properly.
Cons: The 1st unit that I got had a battery that was more than 3 years old and failed the PowerChute software's test and did not switch to the battery on a power loss. Also, the USB connection quit working almost immediately.
The 2nd unit I received did its job properly, but after being on for a few minutes, it would start to emit a very loud buzzing sound. (I could hear it from 40+ feet away.) Also, while the USB connection worked, I had to unplug it and reconnect it on startup of my PC to get it to recognize it.
The 3rd unit (the current one) functions correctly, it's quiet and it handles a power outage correctly. However I got the USB connection to work exactly ONCE, and now it doesn't function anymore. Oh well, I can live with that.
FYI, there isn't anything wrong with my USB ports on my PC, I've used numerous other USB devices on that PC and have had exactly 0 problems with them. The UPS's USB connection also refuses to work on two other PCs that I tried it on.
Other Thoughts: NewEgg did a great job with the RMAs.

Excellent
Pros: Fairly quiet (as UPS's go). Thin, tall design fits in places other, more chunky designs cannot. Run-time can be nearly doubled with optional/additional plug-in battery pack. Good software with decent reports. Works well on Mac & PC.
Cons: None. I'm buying another one just like it.
Other Thoughts: Run time was a guess for me. Hope this helps someone size their UPS. My measured runtime is as follows: I'm powering the following: 1 tower PC with dual 2.0 GHz CPUs, 3 SATA-II HDs, 2 DVD burners, and 8 case fans; 1 19-inch LCD monitor; 1 cordless telephone base station; 1 DSL modem; 1 4-port router w/ WiFi. After full charge, my run time with heavy use on all these devices = 42 minutes. Not too bad.

APC = excellent products
Pros: It's an 865 watt UPS for a reasonable (my opinion) price; It's worked flawlessly this year during hurricane and storm season in the southeast where small, frequent power interruptions are 'the norm'.
Cons: Can't seem to get the PC to recognize that I have 2 of these powering the entire system. The software only recognizes one of the two at any given time for monitoring. Not really a con, but would be nice to be able to have more than 1 UPS monitored from the same PC.
Other Thoughts: Have 2 of these powering home network, severa monitors, and a monster workstation PC. I have a 3rd UPS (smaller version) that's worked great for over 3 yrs. now; It's been moved to a secondary PC since the addition of these 2 UPS's, but it's still performing in tip-top shape.

Good solid ups
Pros: I base this review more on another 1500 I've had for 4 years. A very solid UPS that's done its job as asked. Adequate software interface.
Cons: None noticed

I don't trust the Grid.
Pros: Very high capacity. Wonderful software. Replacement battery's are easy to find. Great for a performance workstation, or maybe ever three of them. Seriously though.. This thing has a lot of juice.
Cons: When running on battery power, it provides slightly less output that on the grid, but that's to be expected, now if only my PSU will stop humming. -.-
Other Thoughts: Great product.. APC is the leader in UPS's. Heck.. I still have a UPS I bought from APC 10 years ago, works like it did when I bought it.

Reliability issues
Pros: It supplies good power when it doesn't randomly overload.
Cons: Our IT department always gets APC UPS's, in the past two years we have blown 4 LS700's, one literally. IT then upgraded us to this model. Of the 4 we have installed 3 will randomly trip into overload shutting down the computers that are on them. The computers don't even have to be on. I have a meter on mine for the last few hours and I'm only drawing 2 amp with a max of 3 amps during boot up. There is no way that my workstation is overloading this UPS.

nice, but still not big enough
Pros: its slender, so it can fit in many places. and it has the self test built into it.can have an extra battery for extra back up. which i may get.
Cons: newegg doesn't sell the extra battery pack for this. i know its not a real con ;) but for me it is, since i have to go to APC to buy one :( i only have 2 item plug into this:1 my computer ,2 my crt monitor 21".
Other Thoughts: i like the fan that kicks in when it goes on battery power during self test. and if power went out as well. i do have a 900watt psu so this may be why i have only 17 minutes of battery back up. system:Thermaltake Kandalf LCS case. Cons: None so far
Other Thoughts: My system: Asus 650 sli mobo, E6400 cpu, 2gig ram, 7600gt, 2 Hds,2 dvd-rw, 19in wide screen lcd, cable modem, wireless router and printer all on while i run the test.

APC RS1500
Pros: 865 WATT RATING AND WILL RUN MY COMPUTER FOR ABOUT 120 MINUTES WITH THE ATTACHED BR24BP BATTERY PACK. I HAVE A 21" SUN GMD5410 GRAPHICS MONITOR AND A COMPUTER SYSTEM I ASSEMBLED BOTH REQUIRING 240 AVERAGE WATTS USUAGE.
Cons: I HAVE HAD 2 OF THESE UNITS FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS NOW BOTH WITH THE BR24BP BATTERY PACK. ONE IS THE XS1500 (LESS ETHERNET PLUG) AND THE RS1500 WITH ETHERNET PLUG. THE PROBLEM IS ALL OF A SUDDEN ONE DAY MY COMPUTER AND ALL EQUIPMENT ATTACHED TO THE XS1500 SHUT DOWN FOR NO REASON. THIS HAS ONLY HAPPENED ONE TIME BUT STILL BOTHERS ME AS TO WHY? AS A RESULT WINDOWS DID NOT LIKE THAT AND I HAD TO REINSTALL WINDOWS ON THAT PARTITION. THIS WAS NOT A REAL BIG DEAL BECAUSE I HAVE HYPEROS INSTALLED ON BOTH OF MY MACHINES. A FANTASTIC PROGRAM THAT COPIES AN ENTIRE OPERATING SYSTEM FROM ONE PARTITION TO ANOTHER WITH A SIMPLE DRAG AND DROP.
Other Thoughts: THE XS1500 AND RS1500 WILL NOT WORK WITH MY 10,000 WATT GENERATOR. EVERYTHING ELSE IN MY HOUSE WILL WORK ON THE GENERATOR INCLUDING ONE TRIPP-LITE OMNI SMART 675 UPS. THE APC UNIT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE VOLTAGE FROM THE OUTLET UNLESS IT IS SUPPLIED FROM THE POWER COMPANY. IN OTHER WORDS I HAVE 2 HOURS TO WORK WITH MY COMPUTERS UNTIL THE POWER COMES BACK ON OR SWITCH OVER THE TRIPP-LITE UPS.

Excellent!
Pros: Ok..I am briefly interrupting my work to come in here and write this review...why? I just went through 8 blackouts (hurricane passing through) and my lights are all going crazy but the power to my PC has been rock solid. No restarts and not even a noticeable flicker on the monitor. This things works.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: Saves me so much time from not having to keep my PC off for the fear of having it spontaneously shut down and damage my hardware.

Over Three Years Service in Hurricane Kingdom!
Pros: This APC Back-UPS BR1500 1500VA 865W 8 Outlets UPS unit has been in service on the Georgia coast where we take electrical storms every other day, it seems. As a matter of fact, recently a lightning bolt hit the house directly and burned much of the electrical devices within, but this APC BR1500VA unit stayed with us and is still ticking. A newer Belkin UPS went down as soon I looked at it. Plus, APC specifically states that this UPS is compatible with Macintosh. I spent hours looking at other vendors and other units at APC; none of them even hinted at Macintosh, although I feel there must be more, somewhere. I have had nothing to grumble about with this product. It has done its job reliably!
Cons: The weight of big, ugly, awful transformers on various equipment cords may cause the plugs to wiggle loose, hang down, or slip free when plugged in the back of this unit. They bear checking from time to time. That, however, is not completely the fault of APC. It's a problem of design inconsistency and football sizes in transformers.
Other Thoughts: From my experience, this product is second to none. It is highly, highly recommended!

Nice, once they got it right
Pros: Once Newegg sent me the right one I became happy. This will serve my server nicely. I'm running 4 computers and all the support equipment on the backup. Works great.
Cons: Gotta watch Newegg. They sent me a 240 volt version first. The clerk on the chat system wanted me to contact APC. I sent an E-Mail to Newegg and thay gave me an RMA. I was totally afraid they were going to send me back the same unit saying there was nothing wrong with it. But they got it right.

JUNK!!!!!
Pros: NONE
Cons: Bathtubbed in less than 3 days of operation.
Other Thoughts: Plugged unit in on Thursday and allowed it to charge for more than a day. On Saturday I connected my new computer. Worked with the computer on Saturday and Sunday. Monday evening when I got home from work I pressed the power button on my CPU. The lights on the CPU flashed on for a brief moment, then off and the UPS started screaming with the "OVERLOAD" light on. With all equipment disconnected from the unit it still screams "OVERLOAD" when turned on. When the unit failed it drew more than 20 amps, as it tripped the 20 amp breaker on the dedicated service I have for this computer.

Avoid!
Pros: Strong, powerful, accepts expansion battery
Cons: Fails. Overload starts flashing, which is an "internal" error, even when nothing is connected. Requires expensive shipping, resulting in a refurb back.
Other Thoughts: Check the internet before ordering this. In my case, it failed when nobody was around, when there was no power outage. So the UPS disconnected the power from the devices!

Excellent UPS for the price
Pros: I bought one of these units for a client, along with the extra battery pack (BR24BP) to increase the runtime of the unit. With the extra battery, the unit can run two Dell Poweredge servers and several pieces of network equipment for about 30 minutes.
Cons: The Powerchute software that came with the unit (v 1.5)initially caused the unit to shut down the hardware connected to it after 5 minutes, even though the software was set to run until 5 minutes of power is left. I had to change the time value in the registry to make the change take effect. However, once set, things ran great.

Runs The Whole House!
Comments: I bought this unit to protect my 56” Samsung HDTV, Windows 2003 Server PC, Xbox, DVD/VCR and Comcast DVR from the severe brownouts I seem to experience at my apartment. With all the above plugged in and powered on including the TV, I get about 14 min of battery time before the battery drains. To test it, I let it charge for about 24 hours, then shut off all the breakers in my Apartment and watched TV for about 10 min switching between the DVD/VCR, Xbox and DiscoveryHD channel with no problems. My unit is rated at 865 watts but with all of my equipment plugged in and turned on it only draws about 400 watts, so I have room to grow on the wattage but not the battery time. Most people will not buy this to watch TV in the dark, but hey if I ever have a short blackout in the middle of College Football 2006 I can just keep on playing while my neighbors are cussing!

Comments: This is a great product. It powers an AMD 64 3200+ with beefy (6800GT) graphics card, 21" CRT monitor, secondary 19" CRT, a linux server, a 15" CRT, Cisco 2800XL switch, Linksys WRTG54GS, cable modem, speakers, and many other things. The software says I will get 9 minutes runtime with all of that hooked up, realistically it's about 4 minutes. But that's still more than enough to protect against the few second blackout that happens once in awhile, or save my work during a long blackout. I plan on purchasing the extended battery that can be easily hooked to this unit (APC part #BR24BP).

Best Back-Up UPS for high powered PCs
Comments: This is the best UPS you can buy for a high end PC. I have a 17" CRT monitor and Athlon-64 3500 PC. I get about 30-40min battery time with the BR1500. If you need any more power you cen buy an ad-on power back and get 2 hours.

Reliable
Comments: This is one of the best UPS backups I've ever worked with. Ive used several different brands in the past and this one surpasses them all. It has gone through all kinds of power failure situations (blackouts, brownouts, flickers) with no problem. I highly recommend this product.
