Rating + 3 Great Hardware, Bad Software

Pros: Works well with my PC running a 400W power supply. The Belkin UPS software says my computer and monitor draw 110 watts of real power, and that's with a 17in LCD monitor, AMD athlon 64, 2 dvd drives, 2 HDDs, and a GeForce 8500. Backup battery will last at least 10 minutes.

Cons: The software works most of the time but it's rather basic and poorly done. It also uses around 6-7 seperate processes just to run. You have to use the Belkin software to use any power management features; Windows XP doesn't support this UPS natively. The odd thing is that the software stops working properly if I put my PC into standby mode. Once my computer goes into standby mode and I bring it back out, the software stops working right and one of the many javaw.exe processes that the Belkin software needs starts taking up half my processor usage. Call me crazy but I would think that a power management device should be able to handle Windows power management! I've e-mailed Belkin about it but they've never replied to me. It almost feels like the software was an afterthought, put together quickly and left unpolished.

Other Thoughts: Other than the software, I can't really find anything bad about it. It does what's it's supposed to, stays cool, is priced well, and seems solidly built. I won't buy another Belkin UPS that uses that software though. For someone who is trying to be energy efficient and puts my computer into standby each night, it makes the software a real pain to use if I have to manually close out the rouge processes and restart the software each morning. I ended up uninstalling it altogether.

Rating + 4 Does the job well

Pros: What can you say? It's a Belkin UPS. Works as expected and I won't be worrying about it.

Cons: I guess I didn't look at the pics very well. I don't like the outlets on the top of the unit; wish they they were on the back. I had to adjust the placement of it and the conmputer hooked to it because the outlets are on the top. Probably my fault for not checking it out better, though.

Rating + 5 GReat deal for the price!

Pros: The deal here is that for a great price you get a battery backup that includes AVR! Automatic Voltage Regulation is key in protecting your set-up. A battery backup with surge protection alone is cool, but under voltages and over voltages caused by wiring in your home can smoke your power supply. That is what happened to my last PS! Also remember, your system does not run at PEAK voltage all the time, so for most systems this backup voltage is more than adequate.

Cons: Power management software is a bit clunky, but REALY not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: NewEgg had this to me in Michigan in 2 days - Free shipping! What a deal on a heavy item!

Rating + 5 Power Requirements

Pros: I have similar Belkin models (larger 1500 VAR) backups for home servers / workstations. I absolutely love them. So I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Belkin.

Cons: Auto shutdown software feels a bit dated - but works.

Other Thoughts: Power requirements will very greatly . But you shouldn't use a PSU calculator for estimating your need. PSU calculators take in account extra wattage needed for start-up (hdd & optical spin-up, etc.) plus extreme loads. If you're using this solely as protection from brownouts and interruptions - you're computer is already on and using very little power.

Rating + 5 power requirements

Pros: These are great units. I bought this particular model recently to give to a friend. Excellent as always. Even has a little door in back to change the battery.

Cons: Not a con but, after 3 years, I've had to order replacement batteries on three of the units I bought. I bought all of them about the same time and all of their batteries died after about three years. Thus, this little one which is the newest, is pulling the load for my main machine until I get the new batteries.

Other Thoughts: Power requirements. People on here do calculations with algorithms developed by nerds that want you to be perfectly covered if you utilize ALL of your components at once and have the most inefficient garbage machine. I have four of these units starting with this little 330 watt. I also have the big 1200VA unit for my old DUAL 2800 athlon (90+ wattx2) space heater rig. I have run that rig on this little 330 watt UPS and have NO problems. REPEAT...NO problems, and that is with a TYAN 2466, dual 2800's, 2gb ram, two hard drives in raid o, and 6 fans. With lcd monitors now needing about 1/3 the power of the old crt's, I think the calculators might be needing new formulas. Just my opinion. Now, lets get some arrogant professor on here to tell everyone that my server (running for 4 1/2 years now) is going to burn up soon...

Rating + 5 No Fuss UPS. Works For Me.

Pros: Basic backup is simple. Easy to install. You forget it's even there.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I originally bought 2 of these units and used them for computers. I have since purchased 2 more and I keep them connected to my Series 2 DirecTV DVR units. They are great for those Short power outages and brown outs we get out here in the country so often. I don't use the Auto Shutdown software so I can't speak on that. I would recommend them for basic backup and surge protection.

Rating + 4 piece of mind

Pros: Price, looks nice, small form

Cons: NONE i can think of...

Other Thoughts: Originally bought for my puter before checking out the psu calculator to figure my wattage needs. I needed 480 this is ONLY good up to maybe 330 watts. I will use this on my older backup emachine & BFG 7600gt. Checkout your wattage requirements first, do a google search for psu calculator, its free and will give you your wattage requirements first> b4 purchasing.

Rating + 2 Problems with this one

Pros: I haven't needed to replace my power supply in my computer after install one of these units, so at least it cleans up my input to the computer.

Cons: Lights flicker and computer shuts off right away, no help from tech support. Also have to turn monitor on and wait a second or two before turning on computer or hole unit shuts down.

Other Thoughts: Only thing pluged into battery backup are monitor and computer. I thought maybe this unit wasn't powerful enough for a simply desktop, however the Windows XP software tests the unit by switching to battery backup mode and everything appears to work. I suggest a different unit

Rating + 5 great

Pros: I bought 2 of these, and gave them a go, they work great one of them is powering a amd 64 3000+ @ 2.4ghz, a 9600xt, 1gb ram, 2*250gb hd, neons, a cable mode, router, and 17' lcd monitor, i can unplug it, and on a full charge i get 5 mins, so that is quite good. on my other pc, i get only 4, but i have a 3000+ @ 2.45ghz, a 6800gt (real power killer) , 2gb ram 2*250gb hd, 17"lcd.

I love the software too, it is great, and it realy does shutdown ur pc when the batt gets low, quite a cool feature.

Cons: The software has given me some grief recently, it took up 100mb of ram on boot.... but it shut it down and restarted it and it was fine, it might have been a random error though, because ive only had that happen once.

Other Thoughts: Make sure u follow the instructions, and charge the battery overnight before use, so just plug it into the wall and nothing else in it. Without that initial charge it will not last as long, and u will get much less amps.

Rating + 5 Rock Solid Value

Pros: Works Like a charm, great software and easy to setup and forget.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Can't beat the price and service - The AVR will probably end up saving a few pieces of hardware from voltage spikes.

Rating + 5 Works without problems

Pros: 2nd Belkin UPS I own. Use my 1500VA Belkin for my 2 rigs and this nice 550VA for my DSL, Router & Telephone back-up. No Issues.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Voltage Regulator helps a lot to keep router stable. No random router reboots anymore. Happy.
Newegg delivers super fast, as always!

Comments: I am very pleased with the perfomance of this UPS. My only disappointment is that the monitoring software is not supported in linux with USB, only serial.

Comments: I'm running an A64 system with 3 HDDs and a couple optical drives all powered by a TT 480watt power supply. The UPS won't work with a dual flat screen monitor setup (overload error causing shutdown) when they are all plugged into the battery plugs. It also complains of an overload with only 1 flat screen plugged in with the tower during high system workloads (doesn't shut down though just beeps). For a simple home or office PC it does seem like a quality product but for more power consuming applications something with more power might be better.

Rating + 5 A very good UPS for the price!

Comments: I have two of these units -- one at home and the other at work. Both are hooked up to my PC via the (provided) USB cable and are running the Belkin BulldogPlus software. The software is quite good, to be honest, though not necessarily as robust as APC software, but really just fine for a single user. You can also have a 2nd (or 3rd or whatever) machine talk to the primary (read: connected by the USB cable) over the network -- thus reading the status from that box *and* receiving a shutdown notification when necessary. Seems to work ok. The units themselves, albeit fairly nice looking, are bigger than expected. No real issue there, but something of note.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these to most anyone!
