Beware the surge protection on this..
Pros: NOTE: I did not purchase this particular item, but I am a 15 year veteran customer of Newegg, MCP certified and work in IT every day. See Cons below.
Cons: From Newegg's technical specs listing on the website: "Surge Protection: 585 joules". Never use a surge protector with less than 2400 joules on any computers, plasma, LCD or LED TV screens, etc. A heavy jolt through the electric line will fry your 585 joule surge protector as well as anything it is connected to. This alone should delete this item off anyones list. Just a Headsup.
Other Thoughts: None

Shady Company Tactics
Pros: For the few days that I've had it, the battery backup has worked when tested.
Cons: SHADY, SHADY, SHADY. You have to MAIL-AWAY a coupon and a 3 dollar check for the usb adaptor, which may or may not come in 2-3 weeks! This adaptor should have come packaged in the unit!
Other Thoughts: The majority of people who buy a backup power supply do it because they've suffered an outage and have realized they REQUIRE such a unit immediately. This was the case with me and many of my colleagues. Upon opening these fifty-dollar units, we expect them to work right out of the box, full-featured. Well, this unit has no USB connectivity out of the box. It comes with a serial port connector and requires you to purchase and send-away for a usb cable. The fact that it comes with such a coupon means CyberPower realized such a cable would be necessary.
Well, because my mid-level-cost PC didn't come with any serial ports, my PC has no way of recognizing the backup battery.
I'm returning this for an APC unit that won't play any mind games with its customers.

Didn't last
Pros: Cheap price
Cons: Cheap quality
Other Thoughts: I've bought two units from APC , and two from CyberPower (this one and a higher-end one). The CyberPowers both died in less than two years, and the APCs continue going strong. I paid a bit more for APC, but you get what you pay for.

Nice!
Pros: I should have gotten one of these years ago! We have alot of power outages, and so far lost one hardrive out of our server. This UPS gives me peace of mind for sure! I have my Server and DVR plugged into this sucker and couldn't be happier about it!
Cons: non
longer battery life for same price of course is always a good thing, but for the money this is a great UPS.

Worse than a standard surge protector
Pros: Supposed features? Price was dirt cheap at a local Staples sale.
Cons: Was very unstable. Granted, my system is not super low-end or entry level, but I expected this to at least be more stable than a regular surge protector. Not the case at all! This thing cut out on me three times in a couple months, even when everything else in the house was fine. And just now, it seems to have killed my PSU. Now, I need to go buy a new one. I should've stuck with my trusty surge protector. Serves me right for buying anything cheap like this.
Other Thoughts: I think for UPS units, you either need to go all out and spend a lot of money, or just stick with a regular surge protector. There's no point to units like these unless your computer is seriously underpowered.

Where's the USB?
Pros: It's a basic UPS; It does it's job.
Cons: NO USB CABLE INCLUDED. You'd think a UPS that lists USB interface port would actually include the USB cable that's required instead of a 'Mail in' that takes 2-3 weeks for delivery that you pay $3 for.

It Works Good!
Pros: See review title. I bought one of these November 2005 (3 years 2 months ago) & used it to power my cable modem, wireless adapter, a Vonage adapter, an 8 port switch, a cordless phone base station, & my alarm clock. Over the years, I've experienced several power failures, the longest being about two hours & it carried the load thru all of them. Admitedly my load is light, but it's all stuff I don't want to go bye-bye in a power failure. The unit just failed totally, no lights, no electricity out ups outlets, circuit breaker not popped, & no power failure. I oppened it up & the fuse was still ok, but the battery voltage was zero. Nothing looked obviously fried & their was no burnt smell. So it just scraped past it's 3 year warranty. I feel like I got value for my money & it fits in my 3 1/2" deep media closet. I'm buying another right now.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: Anybody who expects this to run a computer & monitor for very long needs to have an extremely unpowerful computer & a smallish lcd monitor.

Garbage
Pros: Recyclable.
Cons: Worse then not working, it seems to be sensitive to the slightest power fluctuations. Unstable voltage supply. Cut-in too slow.
Other Thoughts: I've owned this thing for about a year. I never ran a real test, and hooked it up to my aquarium canister with a wattage rating of half max of the cyberpower. It would bleep at least once a day and put the canister on the fritz. Finally a hooked it up to a 'kill-a-watt' and an ultrasound humidifier. Anything over 10Watt's and this thing cannot maintain a stable voltage. My PS3 got shut off and it was the only thing connected to it. Going to drag it to a recycling center.

Good
Pros: Works as advertised. Relatively inexpensive.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: If people complain about not enough power or lack of AVR, that just means they need to read to specifications before purchasing. If a product doesn't have features or specifications that it was never advertised as having, then it's not legitimate to a lack of those features as a con.

Battery backup worthless
Pros: Cheap
Cons: No battery backup whatsoever. As soon as the power goes out the computer shuts off. The "UPS" is anything but.. this is just a surge protector. I would say I got a bad one but I bought two and they both don't hold any battery charge at all. Stick with APC instead. I've never had a problem with them and will be buying an APC as a replacement.
Manufacturer Response:Thank you for trying our CPS425SL. This model is an entry level unit and the lowest priced unit we offer. The CPS425SL is only able to handle a maximum of 230 watts - the equivalent of an entry level PC and monitor. If you a connecting anything higher than 230 watts, I would recommend you consider on of our higher performing models which will provide greater backup time. Our web site has a "UPS Sizing Tool" which will help guide you to the correct models that match your needs - www.cpsww.com. Thank you, Cyber Power Systems

Great
Pros: I'm using this to power my modem, router, and printer. It works great, and will last a long time.
Cons: wish it had surge protection for a cable line since I have cable not DSL
Other Thoughts: This is NOT intended to power your computer with 550watt psu, 17 crt monitor, and everything else in your house. Lets be reasonable people look at the price.

Watch out!
Pros: While this thing worked, which I assume it did, it worked decently. If the power were cut while my PC was turned on it kept it running for a few extra minutes. This gives plenty of time to save work and shut it off. HOWEVER...
Cons: The computer I used this on ended up getting FRIED. My PSU's plug melted to the motherboard about six months after owning this thing. I have no idea if this UPS caused it, but I thought it was supposed to protect against things like that. Besides the previous problem, I've found that after a year the battery no longer works. The surge protector side does, but not the battery side.
Other Thoughts: While it worked, it was handy.
Manufacturer Response:Thank you for your comments on the CPS425SL and I’d like to extend my apologies for the issues you’ve had with your PSU and MB. Please be sure to give us a call so we can troubleshoot the issue and isolate where the problem originated. We carry a 3-year warranty on all our UPSs and also guarantee all your electronics if our unit was at fault. Also, the typical battery life of CyberPower OEM batteries is 4-6 years, and we guarantee them for 3 years also. We stand behind our products, so please let us know if we can be of any assistance. Thanks, CyberPower Systems – 1-877-297-6937.

IPS
Pros: It has a battery that can power my mid to high range PC and it's 19" wide screen LCD monitor for more than 2 minutes.
Cons: It has only succeeded in not cutting the power once. If the power only flickers, the battery will not maintain power to the PC.
Manufacturer Response:Thank you for submitting comments on this unit. It is very common for a UPS to function in this manner if it is overloaded, so I might suggest that you verify the load and make sure it is under 230W. This unit is designed for entry-level PCs and secondary peripheral equipment, so it is highly likely that your load exceeds the unit’s capacity -- most midrange PCs draw a minimum of 350W; high-end 500-600W. CyberPower carries a full line UPS products suitable for your capacity, including our new Intelligent AVR UPSs with LCD Diagnostic Panels.

Get something else.
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Too cheap. Mine was running a single 250watt power supply on it and melted without the power ever going out. Powering 1 hard drive and a 1.333ghz k7 with board, not even a cdrom was on this system nor a monitor. So practically no load at all as this was just a linux file server that didn't need anything besides the hard drive, montherboard, ram and processor. I'm surprised it didn't start a fire with the way it melted through the bottom and burnt the carpet. (not the battery, the actual board and wires melted...
Manufacturer Response:Thank you for your response and comments on our unit – it’s greatly appreciated. Please note that this UPS is only rated for 230W. A small step up to our CP550SL (330W) product would easily handle your current draw. In regards to the “melting” of the unit, please be sure to contact us. Events like this are extremely rare and we would like to find out as much about the incident as possible and exactly what types of hardware, peripherals, or other equipment might have been connected to the device. Thank you, and please let us know if there is anything else we can do. CyberPower.

Does not put out enough power.
Pros: Relatively inexpensive, comes with shutdown software that automatically saves your work before shutting down the applications that you were working on.
Cons: On the box it states that I should be able to use my 17" CRT monitor for an average of 8 minutes along with my CPU case. When I did a test with a fully charged UPS battery, by unplugging the UPS from the wall outlet, it did not out put enough power to run both my monitor and CPU case. However with only my CPU case plugged into the battery outlet on the UPS, it works fine. I am pretty sure if you have a LCD monitor this would not be a problem.
Other Thoughts: Over all I am happy enough with it.

Great Product
Pros: Very good Backup Power Supply. I use to hate being in the middle of something important just to lose everything to a power surge. ugggghhhh!!!! This power supply gives about 30 minutes of power which is plenty.
Cons: None yet

Not good for single monitor and computer
Pros: I have one single 19" sony monitor and computer with 350 watt power supply, this think couldn't hold them for 1 second.
Cons: Check you devices Voltage before buying it from here. Because newegg didn't do refund for this item.
Other Thoughts: This item could be good for one single computer but not good for both monitor and computer. Go buy 600W power UPS
Manufacturer Response:Thank you for taking the time to submit comments on our product – we greatly appreciate the feedback. Please note that this UPS is only rated for 230W. A small step up to our CP685AVR (390W) product would easily handle your current draw. Thanks, CyberPower.

Comments: I'm really glad I invested in a UPS, especially with all of the recent thunder storms here. Newegg and Fedex make the best team ever and I received the product a day before it was expected.
My problem is that approx. four days after I purchased it, the price dropped ... and it looks like it dropped on other sites too. The other thing is the software that comes with the UPS - I'm not sure if it's my hardware but when I have it connected to my computer via a USB cable (which is optional - just to see the status and so the software can automatically shut down the computer) it continually "looses" the connection for just about a second, then says connection restored.
I emailed Cyberpower support and all they did was send a script that disabled the pop-up (from the task bar) that says the connection has been lost - which doesn't fix the problem, only masks it.

Pleased enough.
Comments: I've had one of these since August, and haven't had a single problem yet. I'm not that knowledgeable on the most common voltages of spikes, but where I live the power has a habit of flickering on and off for no reason. It's held up fine in the quick power flickers.
