Greatest example of False Advertising ever Made
Pros: Plenty of Outlets- very cleaver at making lies on the box.
Cons: Unless you are supplying backup power to a night light forget this product and buy an APC or Tripplite. Not only is the tech support a bunch of clowns -took 3 days to tell me that this unit is only good as a paper weight- but the product is junk. All I had plugged into the thing was a CPU and it tripped the breaker on a power outage. The CPU was using only half of the available power according to their software and it couldnt even handle that. Tech support's fix buy a different computer. My fix- go elsewhere if you are using it to power a computer, buy it if you are powering a night light.
Other Thoughts: Do not buy unless you like talking to clowns on the phone and use it only to power a netbook for a short period of time during a power outtage.

Cyberpower support is terrible
Pros: This is an updated to my review on 10/29.
Cons: Since then the unit has begun to fail intermittently.
I have not received any response from Cyberpower since my initial e-mail. I've sent followups and no response yet. Do not buy this unit unless you are sure you don't need any support.

Works Very Well
Pros: Unit works like a champ. Has kept my home servers safe from one or two brief power losses. Runs fairly cool. A good starter UPS. It's lasted nearly a year now. Outlets are spaced out enough to allow a wall-wart to be plugged in.
Cons: None yet.

A Little Sad
Pros: USB connection. Compact. Well-spaced out plugs. Plenty of plugs for surge or battery.
Cons: Really annoying beeping. Seems to have died at ~1 year mark.
Other Thoughts: This is my second UPS. I switched from APC, as I was having some issues with their build quality.
Unfortunately, Cyberpower doesn't seem to have been an upgrade for me.
For about...8-9 months, the UPS worked great. Switchover was instant. But at some point, the battery part of the backup just stopped working.
My guess is the battery must be dead, but there's no error light. Also, the unit still makes the beeping noise indicating no power when there's a power outage.
I've put in a ticket to Cyberpower support to see if there's anything they can do. If not, I'll probably go back to APC.

Bought 3
Pros: Many well placed outlets. Ethernet surge protection. Hardware is very sturdy.
Cons: The Linux driver is precompiled for x86 platforms only, I was hoping to monitor the ups from an embedded PPC system. Installer completes successfully, but daemon segfaults.
Running on Linux x86 platform, I noticed that all my serial connected devices were going haywire, I figured out that the CyberPower Linux driver continuously polled on all serial ports even when the USB cable to the UPS was connected. To make matters worse, when devices connected to those serial ports respond, the Linux pwrstat --status command simply times out rather than querying over USB.
Other Thoughts: This behavior is 100% reproducible on my Debian & Ubuntu machines.
The Linux driver may work fine for setups where the serial port is not in use by an embedded device or console redirection. I haven't found a way to force the Linux driver to limit itself to the USB interface.
The CyberPower Linux driver is 32bit, but it will run on 64bit Linux if the kernel supports 32bit apps.

Pros: Very useful software, completely silent usually, price, power amount, efficiency.
Cons: 1. Software crashes every time I come out of sleep mode. 2. Having the UPS plugged to the PC (vista 64bit SP2) will take it OUT of sleep mode as soon as it enters it. 3. It makes an annoying buzzing sound on battery power, not a big deal because it is almost never on battery power.
Other Thoughts: I contacted support about the software issues, they told me to update the drivers, I force reinstalled the drivers they suggested (same version), and it changed nothing. I was surprised at how fast I received a reply.

Vista 64 Compatability
Pros: Software is simple and clean. It shows the voltage supplied, voltage condition, remaining battery capacity, battery status, remaining battery runtime (estimated/expected I assume), and battery backed up load.
My spec:
Core i7 920 Stock clock 6GB DDR3 Ram Nvidia GTX 285 700 Watt Power supply
As you can see, my computer is above mid tier as of today. The software shows 234 watts load at idle while typing this short review. When playing Crysis Warhead, it can usually hangs around 375watts and up to 390 watts with about 5 minutes of batter runtime. I wonder if that's a bad thing since the software shows a max reading of 390 watts.
Cons: None yet.
Other Thoughts: I mainly wanted to note as soon as I got this that the software included is compatible with Vista 64-bit since there are probably some who may be unsure.

Couldn't ask for more...
Pros: Nicely made, well packaged, good docs and accessories. I was having frequent low voltage with my old APC UPS - the battery was dying after 5 (6?) years. Every time my laser printer kicked on my 22" LCD restarted! No, the laser wasn't on the UPS circuit but the monitor was. Anyway, the Cyberpower solved the problem. Extra space for transformer/plugs and larger number of outlets cleaned up my wiring. I'm very happy with this unit all around!
Cons: Nothing really.

Good Warranty, Poor Product.
Pros: The warranty dept pulled through and sent me new ones.
Cons: Products fails when it is needed most.
Other Thoughts: In less than a year I had two of these die on me. Both would pass the self test but would fail when the unit was unplugged from the wall. I'm never buying a CyberPower product again.

CyberPower great for the money
Pros: This is my third one in four years. I gave one to my son, model 485, about three years ago, with no problem. At that time, I purchased myself one and I too have had no problems. I purchased this 685 to protect my new hd television. Computer nothing, I can repair and replace a power supply or mobo cheap enough but I can't do that from a lightning strike or perhaps a brown-out on my television.
Cons: None (no problem whatsoever).
Other Thoughts: I will continue purchasing CyberPower products and other products from Newegg.

Pros: Good for use with a PC and it's included software
Cons: Will not work correctly with my Netgear ReadyNAS Pro NAS drive. USB connector seems loose.
Other Thoughts: I was going to use this for a standalone UPS for my Netgear ReadyNAS Pro NAS drive, but the NAS drive kept telling me it was disconnected then connected over and over. It's probably a compatibility issue. Netgear lists compatible UPS's on it's support website, but this was wasn't listed under either compatible or incompatible.

Good item for price
Pros: So far so good. Software seems better than APC's Powerchute. In a home that was built in the late 1800s with only 2 circuit breakers where simply turning on the microwave could cause the PC to restart, this is a life saver.
Cons: May not have all the bells and whistles in the software but don't let this discount the product from your shopping cart.
Other Thoughts: Box was beat all to pieces from Big Brown but it works fine nonetheless.

Great UPS
Pros: I was a little unsure about buying this unit because I didn't want to buy a cheap brand, but it has proved me wrong. I have running a phone system w/ 17 Nortel phones and it works great. I cant comment on the provided software because I didn't need it.
Cons: Could't find any
Other Thoughts: Glad I didn't spend the extra bucks on APC or other more expensive brand.

Update on my CP685AVR purchase
Pros: Good power/cost ratio Excellent customer support
Cons: Needed a second chance to make it right
Other Thoughts: This is an update to my original review on 3/8/08 where I only gave the unit 3 eggs due to the loud electrical buzzing noise when it went into stand alone mode (power failure) and lack of customer support.
I really appreciate that the manufacturer took the time to respond here - thank you CyberPower. I did call as they suggested and this time I got thru to a rep who was very helpful and immediately arranged for this unit to be replaced at their cost. The new unit is running virtually silently. I can now highly recommend the unit.

Pros: Price/wattage, AVR
Cons: Poor customer support; very loud and annoying electrical buzzing when in power backup mode
Other Thoughts: Bought this UPS and at first only used the 4 backup outlets - 2 PC connections and 2 LCD monitors. My son and I both started a game, and shortly thereafter the CyberPower UPS let out one continuous beep and ~20 seconds later both PCs went dead. Called CyberPower customer service and left my number for call back. Never received one. Deduced it was an overload condition, did the math, and yes it was (for reference for others: a non-SLI gaming rig while in 3D gaming mode will consume 300-350 Watts depending on other hardware). Had my first power outage yesterday - good news is my main PC stayed running, but when this UPS switches into backup mode it emits an electrical buzz that is fairly loud and very annoying, constantly. 2 short beeps every 15 seconds or so. Even after I powered everything off, the buzzing remained so I had to power down the UPS. I likely won't be buying CyberPower again.
Manufacturer Response:Thank you for your comments on the CP685AVR and I’d like to extend my apologies for the issues you’ve had with your unit. Please be sure to give us a call so we can troubleshoot the issue and isolate where the problem originated. Our Tech Support is open during regular business hours of 8 am to 5 pm CST, Monday through Friday. All of our UPS models have a full 3-year warranty, which also includes the battery. We stand behind our products, so please let us know if we can be of any assistance. The software that was included with your unit, has a set up option for silencing the outage alert beeps. Our Tech Support can also help with setting up this feature. Thank you, CyberPower Systems (Tech Support can be reached at 877-297-6937.)

Works great.
Pros: Having five minutes to franticly wrap up your work when you lose power is pretty nice.
Cons: Five minutes goes a lot faster than you'd think when you're panicking.
Other Thoughts: I'm just kidding, I don't do anything worthwhile enough to save. But yeah, five minutes. Very convenient.

Works well.
Pros: Works as advertised. Surge suppression on network connector is nice, as are included cables.
Cons: No rs232 cable included as stated in Newegg's ad. Burns 10 watts at idle and I don't understand why it has to do that. Doesn't seem very green. Power consumption should be a spec provided to compare units and make an informed buying decision.
Other Thoughts: Why can't this battery backup function be better integrated with the computer's power supply? A UPS converts 120vac to 12vdc to charge the battery, then from the battery back to 120vac so the computer's supply can convert it back to 12vdc (and other low voltages). Doesn't it seem like there's room for improvement in that system? Why not combine the desktop supply with part of this thing so the functionality/circuitry isn't duplicated and it doesn't have to convert 120vac to low voltage more than once? Put it all inside the computer and just plug in any generic 12v lead/acid battery, perhaps even an automotive-type batt. It'd make a desktop function like a laptop in regards to battery/power supply. You could locate the battery externally, anywhere a cable would reach. Plugging in your peripherals could be managed easily enough, too, with a power strip plugged into an outlet on the supply.

Don't know why everyone thinks this works!!
Pros: Price
Cons: Very simply - it is definitely INTERUPTABLE!
Other Thoughts: I bought this unit in October for my high end workstation because I was sick of loosing work due to brown-outs at my house. The first unit had only the workstation plugged into one battery plug and it was pulling a maximum of 290W (the unit is rated to 390W). I did the "self-test" and my machine rebooted. On calling CyberPower, the tech said it was a defect. Apparently, it was switching to the battery in 1 second when it should be doing it in .004 seconds. So, I exchanged for a new UPS (same model). Magically, the self-test on the second model failed AGAIN! I will NEVER buy another CyberPower product! As a side note, this is the second CyberPower UPS I've purchased...the first one never worked either and I thought it was just a bad battery (it's now a super expensive surge protector - if that functionality even works). Little did I know that it was simply a low quality piece of equipment.
Manufacturer Response:Thanks for your feedback on our product. Our AVR UPSs have traditionally been a very reliable line for us with very few DOAs or returns. My apologies for the inconveniences you went through; we’ll be sure to thoroughly inspect the unit when it’s received back to our engineering labs and find the root of the power issue. Please remember we do offer a 3 year warranty on all of our UPS models. Thank you, CyberPower Systems.

EXCELLENT CHOICE
Pros: LIVES UP TO MANUFACTURERS OVERVIEW STATEMENT.EASY SET AND SOFTWARE INSTALL.RAN 19"LCD,TOWER,ROUTER AND MODEM ON BACKUP SIDE. I SURFED THE NET AND OPENED ,RAN AND CLOSED PROGRAMS. DEFRAG ETC.WANTED TO SEE HOW LONG I COULD USE MY PC BEFORE IT SHUT OFF.LASTED JUST OVER 51/2 MIN. DID NOT TEST WHILE DOING NOTHING.I ASSUME TIME WOULD BE LONGER IF I WASN'T USING MY PC.
Cons: NONE.PERIOD.
Other Thoughts: WILL BUY AGAIN FOR SECOND PC.ADVISE TO BUY. TERRIFFIC PRODUCT.

This Thing Is A Tank
Pros: I finally got around to install the software that comes with this thing and was pleasantly surprised. It shows your current power draw on the battery-backed-up equipment, battery capacity and utility line voltage, which is more information than I was expecting.
I also like that the software is available to freely download from Cyberpower's website.
Cons: Slow to charge when under large load.
Other Thoughts: Mine's been running at 380 watts or more load (according to the monitoring program) for a couple of weeks now. I just tested it with a load ranging from 380-400 watts and it held up well (neither of the two connected computers dropped). Battery life was lackluster, with it dropping to just 55% in 1.5 minutes. But the important thing is that it held up both computers at such a high load for any amount of time, as most power outages are just flickers. Now it's having trouble charging though...remaining capacity keeps going up and down a few percent with a load of 320 Watts.

VERY PLEASED
Pros: FOLLOWED ALL DIRECTIONS AS PRINTED AND HAD A FAST SIMPLE FLAWLESS SETUP.THE CYBERPOWER CP685AVR HAS LIVED UP TO EXPECTATIONS.
Cons: NONE
Other Thoughts: I HAVE MY TOWER,19"LCD,MODEM,ROUTER,WIRELESS KEYBOARD AND MOUSE AND PRINTER HOOKED UP TO THIS UNIT. ON MY 3RD DAY OF OWNERSHIP I DISCONNECTED THE POWER LINE FROM THE WALL AND EVERY THING WAS USABLE FOR JUST OVER 5 MINUTES BEFORE SHUTTING DOWN. MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME TO SHUT EVERYTHING OFF.

Great UPS for little money
Pros: Great price, the UI of the software is easy to use and installation is very easy. This has saved me quite a few times since there are quite a few brownouts around my area.
Cons: I have had this UPS for a few years and it is now time to change out the battery. However, I am having problems finding a replacement battery for this particular unit. Cyberpower's site does not allow you to purchase a new battery directly through them.

nice!
Pros: it works, and it's cheap, 3year warranty, 15+ minutes of backup (on my system)
Cons: the utility that comes with it can be set to shutdown your computer when there is x amount of minutes left of battery. the problem is that the lowest you can choose is 5 minutes. so when you stop using the battery it has 5 minutes left. :-( you can choose to use it without the utility, and windows recognizes it as a battery (like a laptop) and you can choose what you want the computer to do through windows when the battery gets low. the utility has some good info though, so this was kind of a bummer.
Other Thoughts: I have a dual 3.0ghz processors, 2gigs of ram, a 256mb graphics card, and 2 19" lcd screens on win xp running off the ups. It stays on for more than 15 minutes after the power cuts off.

Working good so far...
Pros: Easily replaceable battery. Tons of outlets. Excellent software. AVR boosts the voltage if necessary, without using the battery (which wears them out very quickly).
Cons: Cyberpower greatly exaggerates the backup time. Although, the 70 minute claim is technically true, if you have nothing connected to it...
Other Thoughts: From reading the specs, I thought for sure I'd get at least 10 minutes out of the thing. But I only got 3.5 minutes, and it was only half loaded (200 watts). Oh well, that's still more than enough time to save stuff and shut the computer down safely.

Pretty Good
Pros: Cheap, effective and good software. I bought 5 of these exact product 2-1/2 years ago. All but 1 still work and have saved our systems a number of times as well as kept productivity up. I'd recommend them to anyone for a small/home office.
Cons: Not very long battery time. I don't trust USB for connectivity on most stuff, as it gets lost occassionally. The only other option is serial, which is going outta style.
Other Thoughts: This is not something I'd put a server on, but they work effectively for smaller, low power consumption comptuers (ours have LCD's and 200W shuttle boxes).

Great Unit
Pros: Works great - without drivers! It acts just like a laptop battery to your desktop computer if you attach the USB cable. Then you can set your computer to hibernate, standby, etc using windows's power settings.
Cons: Not a biggie, but you have to use windows' power meter in order to see if the battery is charging or full. The only notifications from the battery itself are beeps while it is disconnected from AC.
Other Thoughts: I really like how it acts like a simple battery to windows and doesnt require drivers. My computer, which uses around 300W at idle, was powered for 15min before it went into hibernation with 10% of the battery left, which is my settings.

Nice!
Pros: Agreed with everyone else: tight plugs, clearly labeled, easy to use. Software is helpful during outages. (I haven't tested it yet, but I'm sure it'll do its job.)
Cons: My only complaint so far is that I bought such a low wattaged one. Looking at the power usage/electronic equipment chart, I won't be able to run my system but for a few minutes. Again, my own fault.

Solid
Pros: As mentioned plugs are tight, battery already connected, battery can be replaced, clearly marked elements, no need for proprietary software for power manage as Windows XP Pro SP2 detects unit via USB connection, it just works out of the box!
Cons: Increased $$ for shipping heavier items but not a product defect!

Very cool UPS
Pros: After I received one of these I tested it and specs match manufacturer claims, no problems there. Outlets are spaced well and have tight connection – a good thing. Also, you also get standard serial and simple USB connection to equipment if you feel you need that – no RJ45 LAN-like plug requiring special cable like some competition units. Surge rating and backup time over twice of similar UPS from some other manufacturers. Physical finish is smooth and solid ( you would not want to drop this on your foot, trust me), main power button is small and deeply recessed so chance of accidental turning unit off is minimized yet still can be comfortable reached.. If you do not connect it to additional interfaces you get quality USB cable and coaxial cable with gold plated connectors (plus HD vinyl phone cable). Unit I received came with battery installed already so there was no need for nothing else but to plug it in – many times you have to install battery connection yourself when you buy UPS
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: You may pay for the name or for the value. I like value much better. This UPS is exactly what this means.
