Rating + 5 Nothing More I'll Ever Need

Pros: Has tons of preloaded applications. Graphing is fast and really easy. Actually everything is really easy to use on it, especially if you are upgrading from a TI-85 or TI-86. Then you'll wonder how you lived without it. It definitely is making my Calculus and Physics classes easier in many areas. I really, really like this calculator.

Cons: Doesn't have Vista drivers only XP 32-bit. No 64-bit driver support or Vista yet. Which really made me frustrated because I run Vista and Windows 7 x64. I have to pull out my old PIII laptop with xp home to manage any applications from the web and backup data.

Needs more or expandable memory I filled it up real fast with just a couple unnecessary apps and a game.

Other Thoughts: Basically like a little computer of its own. It has its own operating system and everything. Clock, Calender, Text editor, notes. TI just needs to get on the ball and release TI connect with 64-bit drivers, I mean come on after all wouldn't the majority of the people using these things need a powerful PC. Capable of more than 3gigs memory. I just don't get that part.

Rating + 5 Way to hard to figure out

Pros: Ok, I give this 5 eggs because it will do anything you want it to. I'm a Sophmore in College, and I bought this for my STATs, Chem, and Physics classes. It will do anything

Cons: I would have given it 2 eggs at best because this this is so hard to use. Everything I learned in class I had to go on line to figure out how to do simple things on it. If anyone is in Stats, to figure out the standard deviation, it took 8 printed pages to explain how to get there. If you mess up once, like forget to press the buttons in the correct order it will give you some answer from a previous table or just give you an error screen. Unless you are an Engineer, or are going for your PHD in math stay far away from this as you can. I am sooooooo, disappointed that I spent so much of my money on this calculator.

Other Thoughts: In all honesty, I am selling this and going back to the TI-83, it's simple to use. I just hope that I can get half of what I spent on this.

Rating + 5 Great Calculatore

Pros: I need a statistical calculator for stats class, I also need one for Physics next semester. This calculator can do anything, period.

Cons: The book doesn't help that is comes with. However, everything I had trouble with was easily found on the internet. The only thing is this thing is a computer basically, and is really intimidating at first. If you don't need something really technical, I'd go with the Ti-84, but if you want a calculator that will do everything besides play DVDs this one is for you.

Other Thoughts: Quick summary, awesome calculator, but hard to get use to. If you are in high school/ college this thing will come in handy. But like said before the cheaper models are easier to use.

Pros: Awesome calculator, you can do pretty much anything you want on it.

Cons: The one thing that kinda suprised me was there is no Log button, or even Log function, you have to do it the long way, and that kinda sucks if your taking calc

Other Thoughts: I would recommend it to anyone :)

Pros: This is an amazing calculator. It will do all of the calculus and trigonometry functions. It also has all of the algebra and statistics functions. It comes with over a dozen applications pre-loaded that have everything from gambeling probability to a calendar. It has a usb port so that you can add even more applications for engineering and chemistry and numerous other things. It has an amazing battery life, and is very durable.

Cons: When you first get it the cover is very stiff and hard to get on and off, but this works itself out after a few weeks of regular use.

Other Thoughts: These are good for everything from simple math through college and beyond.

Rating + 5 Ti-89 School Use

Pros: Great Calculator if you are in (Algebra, Trig, Pre cal, Cal I, Cal II, Cal III, Diffyeq, ETC) Calculator is also great for all my engineering courses (Mechanical). Has pre programmed electircal Engineering equations. Performs Integration, Derivatives, Graphs (3d, parametric, polar, rectangular, etc), factors, expands, etc. much more) If you dont have one and you are in any higher level math course/ engineering courses... GET ONE!!!

Cons: Unfortunately wally world sells them much cheaper then new egg and doesnt charge for shipping.

Other Thoughts: MAKE SURE TO TEST BATTERIES... If you can use this calculator on your test and your batteries go out... your outta luck!!!

Pros: Plenty of applications available for it from TI, plenty more from ticalc.org, comes with EE apps, and software available to transfer notes/docs/chm/xls/etc.

Cons: Low memory considering the wealth of applications that could be run from it. You'll have to pick and choose.

Other Thoughts: So far it's been a great calculator, although it's graphing speed isn't anything special.

Rating + 5 Manna

Pros: I can't think of anything math-related that this thing can't handle. A lot of reviews here talk about it's prowess in high-level math courses, but it's also the easiest financial calculator out there.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I had the original 89 before my clumsy hands dropped and broke it, afterwards, I purchased the 89T. This was back around '02. It's now '09 and TI still hasn't come out with anything 'better' than this, which should tell you how great this machine is.

Make no mistake about it- this is a calculator in name only and is really a hand-held computer.

I especially found it's 'Excel'-like and note-taker apps very useful in several classes.

TI does a great job at updating the software and other apps on the machine.

I was a business major and did heavy work in finance, accounting, and stats, with some standard physics and other college-level math courses thrown in. This thing was head and shoulders easier to operate than anything else I've seen. In fact, that's why I originally bought it- it was on display with a dozen other calculators and this was the only one that was intuitive without reading the book.

Don't waste your money on a lessor machine. This one is worth every penny.

i cant even begin to list the features offered
i dont even know the half of them
this will save you time

Rating + 5 Buy with Caution!!

Pros: This calculator has an incredible number of uses and functions. Not only that, but it is not all that hard to master; the many menus and pop-up boxes can be intimidating, but once you learn a few basic parameters for entering data, the user interface proves its worth. Also has a long battery life and a backup battery just in case.

Cons: I got this senior year of high school as an upgrade from a TI-83. After totally mastering AP Calc AB junior year, I figured I would pick this up early to prepare for the future, and used it in AP Calc BC. Using this calculator through that AP class and on into college calc and differential equations courses, I realized that I had forgotten how to take derivatives and integrals by hand, which really rocked me through my dynamic systems course, as I had to relearn all the substitutions and tricks from junior year of high school.

Other Thoughts: By careful with this! Make sure you're not losing track of the basic method for the more advanced math that you do, because in all probability, it will come back to bite you if you let it happen like I did. You've been warned.

Rating + 5 Ga Tech engineering student says:

Pros: It's the best out there! It's very easy to put large text files on there, additional programs, 3rd party software, etc. It's easy to use. It's easy to program. I absolutely love it.

Cons: There is an issue with 3+ integrations at once on rare occasion. This prevents me from using it for such, because one wrong answer out of a hundred is enough to make me pull my hair out. Also, be sure to place algebraic limits in parenthesis when using built in functions or it will mess up the order of operations.

I wish it had a button that would list all possible simplified solutions; not to mention simplified solutions when dealing with more complex problems.

I would like the option of step-by-step solutions for problems. (See: Ti89.com)

I want to see integrated bluetooth, a SDHC card slot, and optional password protection (anti-theft measure).

Other Thoughts: I've never had anyone use mine that didn't love it.

My additional programs include: ME Pro, EE Pro, Table of Elements, Notefolio, Ti-Reader and others.

I do NOT recommend this product to people in math classes below Calculus II.

Rating + 5 Great calculator for those who can benefit from it

Pros: Exact Answers
Pretty Display/Numbers/Fractions etc.
It can solve equations etc....great way to check your work
It's NOT hard to learn as long as you experiment and read the manual and actually sit down and look at all the keys!

I'd recommend you take at least a day making sure you can use it efficiently just like your old calculator.

I'd include the following in other thoughts but I ran out of space there:

I really don't recommend this calculator for students who aren't in Calculus. Two reasons: The first is that it's just too powerful and you just won't use a quarter of what it has to offer. Even precaulcus...the only thing you'll probably touch on are limits...and those aren't even difficult. Secondly...especially for algebra 1 and 2 teachers will go over how to do certain things on calculators. But since most students use ti 83s and 84s then you'll be left behind without really knowing how to do certain things.

Cons: I don't like the casing. I prefer the old style ti-83/ti-89 standard rectangular case. But that's really not a big deal at all.

There are also a few questionable key placements. For example I'm not sure if I agree with the trig functions (sin/cos/tan) not having dedicated buttons. But it's not a big deal either. I quickly got used to it.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this calculator for high school Calculus after my Ti-83 stopped working. Before purchasing another 83 or an 84 I read up on some reviews for the ti-89 and the feature set. A huge selling point for me was of course the fact that it could actually solve equations, limits, derivitives etc. etc.

I think it's very VERY important to note, especially for high school students, that if you buy this make sure you know how to do the math WITHOUT using the advanced features provided. I use it to check work, which I think is a very fair thing to do. But if you use it to actually do all the work and you don't actually know how to do the math yourself then you'll be in trouble at some point.

Another thought: I read that it was very difficult to learn. Nonsense. Just look at the keys and the other two commands per key (2nd/diamond). Experiment. Read the manual. Example: if you dont want an exact answer (i.e. a square root or fraction) then do 2nd enter rather than just enter.

Rating + 5 best graphing calc for the money!

Pros: This graphing calculator is simply the best that Texas Instruments offers and that is allowed on most official/standardized tests such as the SAT/PSAT. Its a tremendous help in any class above basic algebra 1, anything below that the TI-36X SOLAR should be all you need (or a TI-83 if you really want a graphing calc). Amazing tool for the price, you can load additional software/apps/games on it from the computer, even physically mod it if you have the tech know-how. all in all its the best thing out there and it will get you through anything from algebra 1 all the way through advanced college courses.

comes with dozens of included apps! looks great, so many functions itll make ur head spin

Cons: You'll need to read the manual before you figure out how to do most things on it, oh, and the manual for this calculator is almost 300 pages (not including index)!! Its quite a little booklet... But thats not worth taking off an egg for

Other Thoughts: amazing tool, so glad I bought it and not another TI-8x series instead. get it if you can afford it!

Rating + 5 Just what any Engineering Student needs!

Pros: This calculator has every feature that one would need for college level calculus coursed. It has a better screen than my ti-83. It has almost too many feature to keep track of.

Cons: Nothing yet, just the learning curve seeing that some functions are in different places than my old calculator, but since it is so powerful and can do so many more things, it doesn't matter.

Other Thoughts: Love Newegg!

Rating + 5 It's worth ten times its cost.

Pros: Absolutely beautiful calculator. Not only will it handle every single kind of algebra you can throw at it, it will do it gracefully, noting all the errors present in any solution, or any sidenotes you should take into account, such as "Excludes imaginary solutions" when you ask it to solve a particularly complex problem. The design is slick, and the screen lasts forever. The extra RAM over the original is worth it completely, as the built in apps (which you can add to) add some serious kick, so you can upgrade it to deal with new challenges. A MUST for college students, and if you're looking for a graphing calc for your kids, do them a favor.

Cons: Pretty much none. If you rotate the 3d graphs fast enough you get a mild screen ghost. Also, I think I failed English one year because I programmed on this thing through every class. I'm sorry Mr. Smith.

Other Thoughts: I have mine with me no matter where I go. I'm out of school, I should not really need a graphing calculator, but it gets used at least ten times every day. Having this thing made me find the beauty in calculus, and gave me... well, it just made me enjoy math, because it'll help you understand it. It takes the work out of it. Also, it could basically pass any math class under sophomore year at college by itself.

Pros: Does all basic function of a scientific and graphing calculator while still being of reasonable size and value.

Cons: Hard to learn quickly and expect to take 2-3 days getting used to it without using it for classes.

Other Thoughts: I bought this monster for the AP Calculus that I was taking next year. I am quite knowledgeable but it took me a bit to get used to it. Currently I am in Pre-Calculus and this thing is overkill. I hope I can get more use of it next year. Everyone that has noticed it is in awe.

Other Thoughts: Wow! I really love this calculator, first, i thought it would be a little expensive, but trust me! ITS WORTH IT! The TI-84 Plus doesn't have a menu and this one does. It will take you like 3 days of really messing around with it until you get it. After that, its pretty easy.

Rating + 5 Great Calculator

Pros: Very powerful calculator. I remember when I upgraded from an 83 to this, and it's beautiful. The screen has much more clarity than other calculators, and the mathematics interface is easy to learn, but extremely powerful. There are some pretty fun games for it, too. ;)

Cons: A bit costly.

Other Thoughts: I bought mine back in high school. I couldn't afford the price tag, but I thought of a clever little trick. Most high schools require you to have an 83 or better. Ask your parents if they will buy the 83 for you. If so, ask if you can throw in the difference between an 89 and the 83. You only have to pay around thirty bucks, as opposed to the full price :)

Pros: EEPro is amazing! Anyone who deals with circuits of any sort will find the program useful. The -89 can also solve for complex roots of equations, which the -83 cannot.

Cons: $$!
Before buying an 89, do your homeowrk and see if you can get away with something less costly.

Other Thoughts: If you're a college student taking a circuits class, you may be able to live without it. If you have to take more than one class in circuits, you may have to buy an -89.

Pros: Very useful for Calculus. The built-in algebraic solving system and many of the features are great.

Cons: A few of the button placements are questionable. Sin/Cos/Tan as secondary functions gets annoying. There's no log button (have to scroll the menu). Since it's pretty much a QWERTY calculator stuffed in a smaller shell, there are some problems with some of the button layouts (ex. there are menus up to f9, but only buttons up to f6, so you have to secondary function some of them).

Other Thoughts: Overall a great calculator, some of the button placement choices are just annoying and it can be extremely tough finding what you need.

Rating + 5 Life saver for an EE student

Pros: This calculator is an invaluable tool for anyone in very high level math and/or engineering courses. I got this calculator Freshman year of college as an EE student, and every semester I have been finding more and more new uses for it. It was not until late Sophomore/Junior year that I realized why this calculator is so helpful to EE’s in particular. It comes with a program called EEPro that helps with classes like Digital Design, Circuits, Signals & Systems, and Communication Systems. EEPro can do binary arithmetic, solve for RLC circuits, Transformer circuits, even fill out Karnaugh maps

Cons: If you are not planning on taking high level math classes like Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Probability and Statistics, Complex Variables, Signals & Systems or the like, I would recommend the TI-83 series. It will be perfectly adequate for most students, even college students. The 83 will get you through just about any basic Calculus course, without having to spend the extra money on the 89. Like I said, I didn’t realize the full potential of the 89 until now in my Junior year as an Electrical Engineering student. I would not say that there are any actual "cons" to this product if you know how to use it.

Other Thoughts: This is definitely not your “basic high school calculator.” But it is a life saver for college students. The big plusses for the TI-89 Titanium over the older TI-89 are the extra memory, included programs such as Polynomial Root Finder, Simultaneous Equation Solver, Stats and List Editor, but most importantly – EEPro.

Other Thoughts: If you are going to get a calc for your high school classes and are not going to really take the time to learn how to use the functions and such go for the TI-84 or 83. They will work perfect for the average class and your geeky friends won't hate you for having a calc that you have no idea how to use.

Rating + 5 Awesome Calculator

Pros: This is one of the coolest calculators i've ever seen, let alone owned. It has functions for almost anything you could ever want. 2d and 3d graphing, matricies (you can even put variables in them, which ti-83 family can't do). Very nice looking screens, calander and clock. the only thing that doesnt speed along is 3d graphing, but thats to be expected. The manual is very helpful and has saved me many times. I have a little programming knowledge, and have programs and functions for just about everything i've ever done in math class. It saves me tons of time and ensures correct answers (if i get the programming correct). Backup feature could be useful. (see other thoughts). Can download cool games.

Cons: Kinda weird using a graphical interface on a calculator, but its efficient and the manual will help if you need it.

Other Thoughts: I accidentily cleared mine the first week I had it and lost most of the cool apps that were on it to start with and I went to the TI website and couldn't find them in their app database. My fault, but a possible fix could be an OS upgrade. This has helped a lot in math class, coming from a TI-81 (the original), that I could beat in most calculations and graphing.

Rating + 5 Great Calculator

Pros: Wow, call me a dork, but this calculator makes me wet!! LOL..great calculator! does derivatives, integrals, works well with matricies and complex numbers.. really helpful if you are in Electrical engineering..gives resistance color codes and also several formulas already stored!

Cons: Hard to use for the beginner, and the manual that comes with the calculator doesn't even begin to explain.. you can download the entire VERY LARGE user manual off the TI website.

Other Thoughts: You can write your own programs which saves time when you have a formula with a lot of variables that you have to compute repeatedly

Rating + 5 Just like the Voyage...

Pros: This operating system is just like the Voyage. Same memory. Same functions. Awesome one-handed package.

Cons: Not completely file compatible with the Voyage. You can usually convert on a computer and then transfer, though. Menus are a learning curve. Not a full keyboard.

Other Thoughts: If a keyboard is your drawback option, I would take the difference between this and the Voyage and invest in a full keyboard from TI.

Pros: Excellent for the high school calculus student or the college engineer. From graphing capabilities, root finding, and matrix algerbra.... this calculator does it all.

Cons: Steep learning curve if you shy away from it.

Most of the capablities of this calculator probably won't reveal themselves until students are in upper level finite element and optimization classes.

Other Thoughts: I've been using this calculator since my first introductory Calculus course, and in my final year of college it still proves to be an invaluable tool for success.

From computing probability distributions to simply computing definite integrals, this calculator was worth the purchase price 10times over.

Pong also gets me through the occasional boring lecture =D

Pros: -Tons of memory
-Excellent preloaded apps
-USB YAY!

Cons: -A little expensive

Other Thoughts: If you are involved in any sort of technical field, this is an awsome geek toy to have. The extra memory, CAS, ease of connectivity, and large software base for this calc makes it one of my favorite tools.
