Very small and wicked light. Good features (mic works great, and it can record FM radio in very high quality). Cons: This is probally more because my car stereo is no good or I do not how to set the equalizer optios right, but it sounds like sh when i play it through a cassete adapter in my car. Cons: the software wouldnt recognise the mp3 player after the first time i downloaded the mp3's from my pc. Other Thoughts: Wish I bought the 2GB version didn't see it until it was to late though. Oh and it fell out of my pocket one night. It's small, light and portable. The case protects the player really well as well, with wear and tear only on the center silver button after several years of heavy use. Cons: After heavy use, pressing the center button turns off the player instead of going to song list, also does when attempting to change settings-random,fm,microphone etc.) Other Thoughts: Am getting another one(prob the U2-2Gig), just got a samsung and it:s complete nonsense,, so difficult to use and no random or miz functions. Cons: Those looking for eye candy will be disappointed by the monochrome screen. Other Thoughts: I did my research before buying this player last year, and I have been completely satisfied with it. Cons: bundled software interface looks like windows 98, but that's ok you can just use windows media player. Other Thoughts: got this for my mom because she wanted to use overdrive media player (it's a service that lets you get audiobooks from library web pages such as bpl.org) because it has the capability to play very low bitrate files. many new players dont have support for these files, so if that's a factor, keep it in mind. 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful. It is easy to set up and use. I plugged it in to my pc through the usb and it was recognized immediately by XP.I could then literally drag and drop any music file on my pc onto the device snd it was ready to go! The jetaudio software is based on Windows Explorer and makes it even easier for a novice or casual pc user to figure out and utilize! The sound that this player produces is phenomenal add superior to any other device which I have listened to. The firmware provides an almost endless array of options to adjust the sound to the users liking. The joystick control is the only way to go as far as I'm concerned.I can do lawnwork and while I'm working I can change songs or adjust the volume easily by simply reaching the stick through the outside of my shirt pocket.I recently tried to set up an Iriver as well as a Philips MP3 player for some friends and found it to be mind numbing as well as exhausting! The interface isn't as nice as a iPod, but still easy enough to be useful. Very light and 1GB seems to be plenty of storage for my needs. I like recording off the FM occasionally, so I give that feature a plus as well. I like the fact that I don't have to keep buying batteries. Just plug it in to your USB port once and a while and you never have to worry about a dead battery. Sweet! Cons: Tech support through Cowan is sketchy at best. Their live support option is a sign they're trying to improve things. It came out way before eye-pods were popular and it can be used to hold any type of file you want, just like a flash drive. It plays mp3 files in other languages and in various bitrates as well. It also has caption reader built in so I was able to study vocab playing audio mp3 while the words show up on the LCD screen. No battery required, just plug into your computer's USB and it charges just fine. Cons: The string that goes around your neck can be kinda annoying at times. Cons: -Headphones aren't worth using, but I am picky. I never use the stock earbuds with anything. -The protective case is unattractive, so I am only going to use it when hiking. Steve Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year	4/19/2006 11:45:18 AM Decent Player, Terrible Support Pros: Good player, plays a lot of formats. Cons: Small, but that is the point. The stick may be a bit hard to work due to its size, but you get used to it. Battery life not quite what they claim, but still. Other Thoughts: Poor support. Two months after I bought it, my player developed some bad blocks in the Flash memory and had to be replaced. I kept it in its carrying case from the day I got it, so the player was in pristine physical condition. So I sent the unit back for RMA to Cowon America. When the replacement arrived, I was shocked. Granted, it was functional, but instead of a nice new player, I got what looks like it was the display model for several years. It has definitely been heavily used. The new player was covered in pen marks and the back was sticky and disgusting from a large barcode sticker that someone unsuccessfully tried to remove. I dont mind taking some alcohol and cleaning it off. But you gotta wonder, how long will this one last? And this is how Cowon treats their customers- replacing pristine looking player with some second-hand junk they didn't even bother to clean before sending out. 5 out of 5 people found this review helpful. This unit is so light I don’t even know its there most of the time. The display is easy to read and the interface is fairly intuitive. No proprietary software to load the file onto the player, just drag and drop. Cons: AC charger is a separate purchase L. The player came with some of the audio enhancements activated L. The headphone buds are a little large for my ears so I will be purchasing a pair that fit better at some point. Other Thoughts: I wanted a 1GB flash based player instead of a player with a hard drive because I will be using it to listen to music while working out and the activity could damage a hard drive. I also was looking for a player that included FM radio as my gym broadcasts TV audio over FM. I had narrowed the selection to the iRiver T-10, Creative MuVo TX FM, COWON iAudio U2 or the COWON iAudio F1. I ended up choosing the COWON iAudio U2 because it was on sale @ NewEgg.com for $99.99 + $4.99 (3 day shipping). This player does it all. Big as a cigarette lighter and just as light. Who needs a necklace! If fits right in your shirt pocket. Just drag and drop the songs. No extra software needed that tries to sell you junk. The songs load fast, so it is easy to switch. Audio quality is good enough. Actually, it is very good. I am a bit of an audiophile with my Sunfire gear for home, so I have a particular ear. This sounds better than I expected for the price. Easy to use. Still have yet to read the manual. No need. Supplied headphones sonic quality awesome. However, I don't like ear buds on a necklace, gotta have a head harness. Cons: I guess newegg or iAudio is catching on, cause they raised the price a bit. The included earphones are ok, but I connected it to my Sennheiser px200 headphones, and the sound quality is outstanding, which can be further tweaked however you like using the equalizer and BBE effects. It can also record into mp3 or wav files from the built in mic, line input or the FM radio. The interface is very intuitive, and most features can be figured out without reading the manual. Marc Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week	3/16/2006 11:33:27 AM Incomplete Product Pros: Light weight Nice sound Well thought out controls Cons: Rechargeable Battery without a charger Awkward support process Other Thoughts: The iAudio U2 is a nice mp3 player - but one of the big problems for me is the internal battery - it has to be recharged, you cannot just pop in another AAA battery. And to make matters worse, COWON's own website, the manufacturer, says that the AC Adapter/Charger is included - but it is NOT. Thus the only way to charge the U2 is with a USB connector, so plan on lugging your laptop with you to recharge your MP3 player. COWON tech/sales support says that "Includes" doesn't really mean include, it's an optional item that must be purchased separately. And since NewEgg doesn't carry, you'll have to buy it from COWON directly. In trying to talk to COWON about this, I found out that you cannot, talk to them that is - they have no voice line for support - it's all done by email or online chat (when it works). My recommendation - find another player that uses batteries and buy some rechargeables. I have a larger MP3 player that i use in the car and at work but for the gym this player is awesome. It is so small and light that I barely notice it. The sound is unbelievable for such a small little player. Trust me, this is way better than any ipod in terms of sound quaility. The folder layout is a bit different than most players. It is simple drag and drop. This may actually be a plus to some users. Overall, this is a great product. Their might be cheaper alternatives out there but this player is really great. Buy it. Good things come in small packages. This thing is small. The picture provided doesnt really let you see how small this thing really is and its very lightweight. Also, this thing is extremely easy to use, you just plug in and drag your songs into the folder. Playlists are very easy to make aswell. I think my favorite part of this mp3 player is the sound. I'm a firm believer in iaudio now, as the U2 has worked great for me since August. I've had it for 5 months now and its the best mp3 player I can think of (I'm a bit of a technophile). Not only does it have more functions than any other player but its also small and nice! Every detail is well thought out and surprisingly high quality for a relalitively unknown brand. The sound quality is phenomenal (the good headphones help) and it has lots of sound tweaks like a 3D (pan) effect, enhanced bass (which will peak your headphones), BBE, etc.. I recorded some friends playing music in my living room and am still amazed at the quality that comes through a pin-hole mic in the side of the player. You can adjust the recording for mp3 (various bit-rates), wav's and I don't remember what else. The controls are intuitive and easy to learn, battery life is great, transfer rate and charge time are both fast. All in all, it's a perfect player. btw, you don't need any software to transfer files -- it shows up as a removable drive and you just drag and drop your oggs, mp3s, and whatever into the music folder. v nice. The box includes everything one needs (and then some). I especially like the case that is included. I was very surprised on how loud the unit was. It has a max volume of 40, but I usually keep it between 20-30, as anything over that is too loud for me. Windows sees it as an external hard drive and you can drag and drop MP3s and regular files. I listen to it about an hour biking to and from work every day and I only need to recharge it about once every two weeks (takes less than an hour to charge). Has a great joystick that I can control by touch. Doesn't skip, fits in my pants pocket, doesn't require proprietary software, and it doesn't make me look like an iTool with white headphones. Its easy to upload music using the software provided. The only thing I didn't like were the ear phones. They hurt your ears and they fall out very easily. This puppy fit the bill perfectly. Lots of space with 1GB and rechargeable (via USB) internal lithium battry. (More stuff in my desk at work such as batteries wasn't something I needed.). Some of the main reasons I decided to go with iAudio U2 are: 1. Audio Quality 2. Multiformat Support -- especially OGG 3. Size (Wear around my neck at work everday! Fits easily in my dress shirt pocket) 4. Battery Life (ususally 15+ hours) 5. Many other features, like voice recording, line in recording, FM radio, audio enhancements (EQ, BBE, etc..) menu features... etc.. I was also impressed with the internal mic. Recorded a meeting at work in a large room and could hear everyone upon playback. Had mine now for over 6 months, and it has been working like charm. Even dropped it several times and no problems. b16a2 Tech Level: Ownership:	6/30/2005 5:35:56 PM Great Feature-Filled Player Comments: I had always had my eye on Axxxx xxxx but never got around to buying one. One thing that always annoyed me about them was the way in which they list songs (and the way which iTunes lists them too) - by ID3 tag. While this is fine most of the time, I often would find a small delinquent group of files with little or no ID3 info. As a result, even locating these files in xxxxx or on an xxxx is a nightmare and a half! I understand that you are supposed to fix them yourself, but its a quirk that has always held me back from taking the xxxx plunge. After people around me got iPods, and after playing with them for a while, I like the players, and the sound quality, but the players always felt like they were lacking something - some feature, but I had no idea what. The size of the xxxxxs (both regular and mini) are impressive, but as I found in my research they dont lend themselves to exercising very well, and so I started looking into flash-based players. PRO: 1) Shows up as its own drive in Windows - copying music to it is a simple drag and drop affair 2) Charges off of the USB as you copy stuff to it 3) Features!!! - The FM radio, the ability to record line-in, radio, and voice, all to various quality levels of WAV or MP3, Sleep timer, wake up timer! 4) Voice recording quality is very good! 5) Options in the menu - there are many many options in many of the menus. These include sound quality settings (BBE, 3D sound, an equalizer with presets, and a bunch more), settings to control the display, settings to control the function of buttons, the function of the joystick, battery charge rate, song ordering, and in the information screen, memory remaining, firmware version, and even battery voltage!! 6) This may not be an advantage for fans of the iPod and iTunes, but the player lists folders and songs in 3 different orders: file name, date added, and time added. The folders on the screen are the very same folders you create in the "music" folder on the unit when you copy files over to it. It allows you to have a folder with MP3's from various artists and albums thrown together and it keeps them together without having to rely on correct ID tags. 7) Size - This unit is a very small and light player - it sits in your pocket so comfortably I'm afraid I might forget it in there - it seems perfect for any activity, especially exercise. 8) The player's firmware is constantly upgraded at the jetaudio website (www.jetaudio.com), and you can easily flash the firmware through the usb connection CONS: 1) The only one I've found so far is that for some very quiet music I have to max out the volume, but for the most part the sound level is adequate with volume set at the midway mark. I have used quite a few different players, and shopped around, and in the end after settling on this one, I am now convinced it is the best option. As far as the user interface is concerned, there are many screens, and people may find the iPod's interface a little easier to use, however the iPod's interface also does not provide the level of options that the iAudio U2 interface provides, and it only takes a few minutes of tinkering to get the hang of the player. I highly recommend this to someone looking for a feature-packed compact and light player, thats easy to use, easy to customize, and a seems to be a very rewarding purchase. 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful. It charges quickly, has a snazzy user interface that is very easy to navigate with. Able to play MP3, MP2, WMA, ASF, OGG and WAV. The voice recording feature is another bonus, but I really don't use it that much. The FM radio is OK.(also you can record/encode FM stations to MP3, cool!) It has inline MP3 encoding, which means that you can plug another CD player into it and compress the songs into MP3. The earbuds are to big to stay in your ears if you move around alot, but the sound quality is good. The package includes a nice protective sleeve with a lanyard (no arm strap, but it's easy enough to just put it into your pocket.) Final thoughts: This is a great player for your money. This flash player fuses an excellent MP3 player with a recorder, and an FM radio (along with raw storage). It's rendering of MP3's is one of the best that I have heard, and its file management is more than reasonable. The FM radio, as is common in this class, is a little weak. A big strength with this player is its firmware upgrades which have improved is compatablility and its file and system management. Its rechargable battery has a long life, too, usually exceeding 15 hours even with high-volume use. I have tried several others, but this one gets my vote. Newegg sent this to me via my FPO AP address, one of the few companies to be so considerate to go the extra mile for the country's fighting soldiers and sailors overseas.
