Awesome machine, Terrible software
Pros: Superb screen resolution, DualCore, 128MB RAM
Cons: Text-to-speach(TTS) is useless, Short battery life, TimeZone not setting properly, Mediocore GPS signal performance
Other Thoughts: I performed all the updates as of 2008, Feb 19th.
Battery - after bringing the GPS home fully recharged from the car, and after three days when I tried to drive without the adaptor, the battery was totally drained. On full charge, it lasts about 2 hours.
GPS signal - Not so good. I have a BT GPS receiver device for my PDA, HOLUX 1000. In the same environment, HOLUX fixes the position much faster on cold startup. ipaq 310 often rotate-stop-rotate the map when stopped on a red light.
GPS Route - I tried to go to Target store, and used POI for it. I ended up in a very quiet resident neighbor about 7 blocks away from Target. Does my ipaq wants a break? One time this also gave me wrong exit directions on highway. Maybe it thought I was on a road next to the highway. Never experienced with my HOLUX + Tomtom6.
Timezone automatic update - I set it on automatic. I live in GMT-8 (Portland, OR), ipaq updates my ipaq to GMT-7 all times.
Unless a major update, I'd stay away!!!

Pros: Very clear display and voice , nice features relative ease of use.
Cons: Locks up frequently, battery will not hold charge. On second unit replaced by new egg. HP support is worthless, will not refund money either since it was not purchased from them. Get a map before purchasing this product!

Great device, other reviewers should READ THE MANUAL
Pros: Large 480 resolution 4.3" screen. Route calculations are lightning fast, reroutes are even faster! This unit gets almost 4 hours on a full charge, but I almost always leave it plugged in with the supplied car charger. Hp has a dedicated website for this product allowing you to plan an entire trip and upload it to the device. Newegg.com customer service is A+
Cons: The unit will lock up a time or two in the first day of use. However, I haven't had any lockups since. HP's sales support is worthless.

Very Sharp Screen, Great Buy
Pros: Great price form NewEgg, very fast shipping. The 4.3" wide screen is awesome with "hi-def" resolution. Software design is easy to use.
Cons: this iPAQ 310 locked up and freezed while i am inputing the addresses to favourites. the device experienced a "Fatal Error" and needed to reset it.I hope it won't lock up again, you know how good the New Egg return policy are.
Other Thoughts: grat buy, it's almost 100 dollars cheaper than buying retail or hp direct. and expect some freeze screen since it's Win CE based.

It does do text to speech
Pros: Crystal clear display 3D buildings 12 million POIs! search POIs by name (TOMTOM 6 doesn't) Can be hacked to run other software (including IGO 2006 and TOMTOM 5 or 6.00)
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: You have to select a different voice to get text-to-speech and then it will speak the street names. Also, HP just added a new upgrade on their web site to update the system. They even put out a new user manual. When it was initially released it was more of a beta... i can only gues they were rushing it out for christmas.

This is NOT a PDA
Pros: Great GPS.
Cons: HP sales told me this was also a PDA. You can't load any other programs on it. Your stuck with it just like it is.

Not a good GPS, just a media player
Pros: 1. very nice screen for a media center
2.none
Cons: 1. over price for a GPS like this, it should be less than $250
2. the routing is suck.
3. it dones day the street name.
4. the device just can play wmv or avi files, no mpeg divx rmvb ...
5. not a good GPS as TT or GM
Other Thoughts: if you want a good GPS, ont waste your money no this.
and newegg always fast shiiping

Hunk of Junk - Stay Away!
Pros: Feature set, ID, WVGA display.
Cons: Confusing to use. Worst UI.
Other Thoughts: I work for a top 3 GPS manufacturer and we bought this product for a competitive evaluation. One of my coworkers commented that this was the "worst navigation system ever". It is a complete nightmare to use. The map kept switching between north up and heads up mode (in 3-D, no less). Address and POI entry is confusing. The speaker makes turn instructions sound like adults talking in a Charlie Brown cartoon. Scrolling street name makes me dizzy. This may be the first competitive GPS sample that I return. It is that bad!!! No kidding.

HP GPS
Pros: Screen resolution, guidance voice is crispy clear, home charger, car charger come with it, preloaded games,
Cons: NO text-to-speech as advertised(it does not say street name, the reason I bought it), short battery life, blue tooth sound is not clear as GPS guidance voice, some out of date street name, a lot of touch-touch just to cancel a route you're on.
Other Thoughts: Price should be lowered. HP still new to GPS field.
