Rating + 5 Very Good For The Price

Pros: I bought for my son and he put aside because he could not find some addresses in Miami-FL just like posted in other reviews here. After two months without using it and assuming it should be returned to the manufacture for replacement, I decided to find out what was wrong. After going online and read the troubleshooting instructions, I did the very easy setup and since then I loved it so much that I keep using it ..., with my son's his permission off course. Great product for a great price.

Cons: None so far.

Rating + 3 OK for the money

Pros: This unit has worked consistently well for me. Any problems can be dealt with quickly with either powering the unit off, then on again, or by using the reset switch.
Good value for the $$ at the time that I purchased the unit.
Worked well on a trip from central Texas to South Carolina and back, no issues.

Cons: Maps are outdated, and Pharos seems to be stalling when it comes to map updates. The unit is solid enough that I'd be willing to pay something reasonable for map updates. Makes me think Pharos doesn't really care about repeat business.

Other Thoughts: Pharos has probably lost a repeat customer if they don't get a map update out soon for this unit.

Rating + 4 Great low budget GPS

Pros: Easy set up, quick response from satellite, easy to navigate views.

Cons: not easy to type in addresses. no spacebar on querty keyboard?!

windsheild mount is not very adjustable.

Other Thoughts: This little guy was easy to set up out of the box. Just turn the thing on and if you are outside or near a window it should acquire a signal fairly easily. For the price the available features are good enough. Don't expect to be able to configure this device a whole lot. There is no information on updates (how to get new skins, etc) but overall it's good for finding where you are quickly and easily. I have not used the "get directions" features yet so I can't comment on that. But I recommend this to any first time GPSer that just wants to get a device to know where you are.

Rating + 2 Out Dated Maps

Pros: Nice interface, great price, and sold by major online retailers like Newegg and Dell.

Cons: Maps are outdated and seemingly no way to update them via their limited lackluster website. Volume control is either high or low. Slider will not stay in middle section.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for. Even though this was only $60 less than a Garmin when it first came out, it is $600 not as good a known good name brands.

Rating + 4 Good GPS

Pros: Value. This is a great GPS for anyone who needs a GPS with none of the extras. You can easily see side streets, and the text-to-speech is good enough in high density areas to let you know which turn is yours. Directions and routes given are acceptable.

Maps are decently up to date with most roads (though many side roads and roads built after 2005/2006 are not included).

Cons: Freezes- the processor is slow. When processing information, if you turn the device off, it can sometimes cause the device to not come back on. To fix this, just hit the reset button with your pen.

U-Turns- this device hates u-turns. It only does them if you're approaching a dead-end.

Signal- you may experience signal loss in extreme temperatures. Holding the device up to the air conditioner for a minute usually resolves this for me. Satelite signals usually take 45 seconds to obtain for me, but can take as long as 5 minutes. It usually takes only 30 seconds when the device is plugged in.

Lack of Points of Interest- there are very few points of interest. Most restaurants and gas stations are not in the GPS, but there are enough if you're desperately looking for something. For example, possibly since the company is UK-based that makes this, there are no Exxon stations.

Pharos- the company does not provide US updates, but tech support has been clear and helpful.

Other Thoughts: This would make the perfect present for someone needing their first GPS. The directions are clear, the product is solid, and aside from the small bugs listed in "cons," it is a reliable system. All issues I have had were easily resolved by pressing the "reset" button, and after more than a year of use, my wife and I are still using it.

You probably will not find a GPS that has these capabilities for this price point. If you don't need bluetooth, mp3, billions of POIs, etc., and you just need to know how to get from point A to point B, this is the GPS for you.

Rating + 2 Poor customer service

Pros: It works fine after pharos giving me the runaround...

Cons: took about 3 month for pharos fix it, it did not work properly, would not lock on the satellite signal. The support phone line was busy, they would put me on hold for 30min, than disconnect.
Email was very slow, they would answer every 3 days, finally giving me an RMA. I sent it back and after about 3 weeks I asked them what was goin on.They told me that they did not receive it!!
Fortunatly I shipped with a tracking number, and they finally admitted receiving it! another month fixing it, finally shipped it back fixed...

Other Thoughts: Not recommended because of the poor customer service...
btw, I posted the same review on Dell.com (they are selling this model as well) and Dell took it off immedietly, leaving only the good reviews........

Rating + 4 A good value...

Pros: The unit has great text-to-speech and it was invaluable in a cross country trip to our new residence. We use it frequently, and are very happy about it. The screen is simple and easy to use with drag and drop. The stylus that comes with it is ideal in clicking on specific points or typing in addresses.

Cons: The GPS signal takes awhile to connect. When we've really needed it fast after turning it on, we wouldn't have a signal for 20 minutes sometimes. Generally, it takes a few minutes locate where you are through GPS, so we just make sure we turn it on and have it in a clear area before we really need to use it.

Other Thoughts: The amount of money you pay for the features are second to none.

Rating + 3 Broke within the year

Pros: Very fast at recalculating route, positioning very accurate. The most important parts of a good GPS :) has text-to-speech

Cons: It has an old old map -2006, and no updates on the website either.. and because it's running on a 200mhz processor, search can be horribly slow sometimes, especially when you don't do a "city first" search. Real time search makes it freeze at almost every letter. Kinda ugly... but that's besides the point. Often gets no signal unless you plug it in.

Somehow it broke, no voice and it would get it to calculate map. Hopefully can get it fixed under warranty.

Other Thoughts: I would say it's a good GPS overall, very accurate compared to a megellan I got recently. It broke barely past it's first year of use though, hopefully warranty will get it fixed, and map is OLD, really hope they would do an update...

Pros: I'd like to start off saying that this is the second portable GPS I've bought. The first one I sent to my little brother--big mistake!! I was so happy to know that this had a stylus with it! Until...

Cons: This thing sucks. It freezes ALL the time. "GPS signal too low" It's horrible when I'm in the middle of D.C. and can't find where I need to be. Then, it'll give you the runaround also. It tells you to go southbound when you know in your heart you should go north. I follow my gut and i'm right. Went to the dentist recently close to my house. I had an idea of where it was--no worries-just typed in the address and bam! This thing got me there alright, in fact, I was 1 left turn from the dental office and it told me to make a right. I just followed it and was taken 7.8 miles out the way. Gas is too expensive for this to be happening. I've had this for 6 months now and am just writing this review because it is stuck on the off mode. It won't even turn on anymore. Thanks NewEgg for standing behind sucha wonderful product!

Rating + 2 Unreliable, but works well when it works.

Pros: I have owned this for 6 months and it has given me a myriad of problems. But with that said, when it works it works well! The map is great, the speech is good and it re-routes fast.

Cons: Here are the cons in order: The address input interface is the worst on the market IMHO, Soooo bad. It takes forever to search through its memory to find things and as you type it stops to search. Then in the cold weather it takes sometimes 30-40min to find a signal. I'm not exaggerating. 30-40min. To test to see if it was actually the cold doing it I brought the unit inside for the night, then fired it up the next morning and voile, grabbed signal in a few minutes, which brings me to the next con......................The mount.
The mount for this GPS is just awful. Falls off the windshield, near impossible to remove/replace the unit itself from the dock, Wont stick to windshield in cold weather.Blech, just awful design. Last but not least the POI's are bad, even with an update they stink.

Other Thoughts: I have 2 other gps systems, both garmins. They are far superior units to this. If you are going to need to rely on your gps system, this isn't the one for you. If a gps is more of a fun gadget than a tool, this is a decent enough one if you dont mind the few pitfalls!

Rating + 5 Great for the price

Pros: Simple to use and setup; nice bright screen and clear spoken directions. Bought this from Newegg when I moved out East in January and have been using it for the past 6 months w/o probs. I would literally be lost w/o it when I get on the roads out here. Great price, too (I did get my rebate!) Has the usual 3 settings for waypoint travel as all the rest of the units, up-to-date maps.

Cons: Touch-screen is sometimes tricky to use -- particularly when driving for adhoc destinations enroute. May have trouble finding a GPS signal initally, but usually solid once it does. Not as full-featured as some of the Garmins but not as $$$ either.

Other Thoughts: The true test of one of these units is how difficult it is use and how easy to enter data on the fly. Judging from that, I've never had to read the manual and it's simple to add destinations (and return to un-saved/recent destinations for the drive back) and use. The POI would come in handier if it was a little better at selecting reasonable points of interest, and you'll probably have to stop to get an address inputted correctly -- which is prob wise anyway. All in all a good unit. I've never had to reset it and it updated fine when I first purchased the unit. No complaints here.

Rating + 5 Wonderful For Work

Pros: Great color, no matter the light conditions. The voice coming from the speaker is clear and loud enough, even with the window open.

Others have commented that the mount makes it pain to remove. Just grab the tray with one hand and lift the GPS with the other. It'll pop right out.

Directions are easy to read and navigating the GPS menu's are great. The way the stylus is packed makes it very easy to use and hard to lose. Fantastic if you have big fingers. If you somehow lose the stylus, a pen cap works as well.

Walk mode is handy too!

Cons: There aren't that many POI's, but if you're looking for something to get you to where you're going and maybe stop for a bite on the way, then it's perfectly fine. I don't know about you, but I'm not looking for (Insert High School Name) and if I were, I'd get the address and input it. Simple.

The power on button has to be held in for a few seconds. Boohoo. I'd rather have that and know it won't turn on when it's in walk mode from pushing up against something in my pack.

Other Thoughts: I work in the service industry and spend most of my time in my "office" driving to jobs. Originally, I was the last person still using maps. The PDR150 finally put a GPS in a decent price range and gave me the major features I wanted.

If I wanted an MP3 player, I'd get a Creative Zen and if I wanted a tour, I'd ask the locals for nearby hot spots.

It's perfect for the no-nonsense driver who knows where they need to go and can go off the beaten path if needed.

Rating + 4 Great Product

Pros: This system obtains the GPS signal quickly, is very accurate and up to date with its maps, has loads of features, finds decent routes, has a good battery life, and for its price, it is perfect!

Cons: The system has its glitches.
1) Volume. If you turn the volume too high, the sound is warped. Too low, and you can't hear it. You have to get it on just the right notch. If you try to mute the system, it will freeze. You must quickly unmute the system when you restart it before the voice tries to talk again.
2) On one crazy road, the GPS got mixed up trying to give two directions at once (traveling 70 MPH, merging quickly with traffic) as I turned it on mute to concentrate on the traffic. The system froze and would not reset. Pressing the hard reset button in the back fixed this, but I lost all my saved places. Luckily, I hadn't had it long, so I didn't lose much!

Other Thoughts: Remember to never put this system on mute, and you will undoubtedly love it!

Rating + 5 Probably best GPS at this price range

Pros: Excellent GPS signal reception (works inside my garage!); good startup time; fast standby mode; lots of options to configure; text to speech; compact and light weight; complete with all necessary accessories including ac adapter.

Cons: No quick release mechanism (or I can't find it); didn't memorize screen brightness after poweroff/standby; screen contrast not the best but acceptable.

Other Thoughts: Buttons on screen quite small, a problem if you have big hands. The white logo and markings surrounding the screen is distracting. I prefer 'Night View' even during daytime.

Pros: 1. Picks up satellite very quickly
2. Direction r pretty good as far as I have seen
3. Voice quality is pretty good
4. Text to speech feature for $100 after rebates is a good deal.
5. walking mode also available
6. Route recalculation was quick
7. night/day view mode available

Cons: it kinda lost signal once...but picked up again very quickly

Other Thoughts: I brought this after doing an extensive research. garmin and tom tom do not give TTS feature unless ur ready to shell out atleast $200+ and Magellan has old maps and is charging for upgrades. Customer support is also quick to reach in case of any problems...Cant think of much ...will update my review in a month or so once I put this baby to more tests....so far i will give a thumbs up

Rating + 4 my 2nd review - good GPS unit

Pros: Easy to use, text-to-speech, fast SiRFstarIII, very quick re-route, route preview, map browsing, good enough POIs, good enough LCD screen, loud enough driving direction, good car mount

Cons: No multiple points route, sealed SD card slot (void warranty if seal is broken), always start somewhere in Los Angeles if the unit can't lock into satellites (would prefer it to start from last location), and this thing is ugly!

Other Thoughts: My first unit is defective, it always freeze when calculating route. Newegg took care of it and my review is based on the replacement unit Newegg shipped me. So far, this unit works pretty well and definitely worth the $100 (AR) I paid. Rebate check arrived quickly too, in about 5 weeks.

Rating + 2 Budget GPS

Pros: Inexpensive unit with Text-to-Speach.

Fairly easy to use and get's me to where I want to go.

Cons: The user interface is cumbersome and not intuitive. Have to go through a lot of menus to get going on each trip or to get to your address book. If this were a cellphone, I would have thrown it out the window by now.
Even though it has the SiRF III chipset, it's slow to lock on to satellites and compute a location.
The text-to-speach feature only does a halfway job at pronouncing street and city names. Sometimes it's laughable, sometimes bordering on obscene.
Some of the button areas on the touch screen are small and it's easy to hit the wrong button with your finger. It comes with a sylus to mitigate this problem.
The product has been out for months but the company doesn't have product support for this model on their web site yet.

Rating + 5 Excellent

Pros: Is loaded with many useful, helpful features - for example, you simply enter a destination and the GPS calculates either the "quickest" or "shortest" map. When driving it will voice alert when you are approaching a turn. If you deviate from the original map route (say take a different road) , it simply recalculates a new map.
The GPS is very well designed - hand-held or easy window mounting, carrying case, touch screen & touch probe, speech, color, day & night modes,3-D mode, car and house battery chargers, good manual, etc
100% pick up of signals
Very, very accurate up-to-date, detailed maps - in both city and country locations. I was suprised when it accurately located some small country spots.
I promptly received my $50.00 rebate within stated time frame.

Cons: A very minor issue with Point of Interest function
With a specific POI you sometimes need to type in variations of a stores name to find it. There is a neat feature of locating sites around a specific location (POI) points of interest. The GPS will easily locate the nearby shopping malls, etc. But to locate specific types of stores like WalMart Supercenters you need to know what to type in. For example, if you type in under "By Name" : "walmart" you will not get nearby stores. BUT if you type in "supercenter" it will bring up all up-to-date nearby WalMart Supercenter stores. Once identified, the GPS will then easily guide you to that location.

Other Thoughts: Amazing GPS for the price.
My total cost was $100. NewEgg ran a deal with $50 off the original retail $200 price and Pharos offered a $50 rebate and promptly sent the check.

Pros: Worked pretty well the couple of times I could get it to turn on

Cons: Got several error messages when turning unit on, such as..Insert SD card (already in there), fatal error Destinator .exe failed or the screen that says PHAROS would come up & nothing would happen. Also the user manual start guide CD that came with it was blank...no files on it! Called Pharos & they had me re-insert the SD card (which voids the warranty) still didn't work so have to send back to the company to get a updated version & I have to pay the shipping!!

Other Thoughts: Very disappointing Christmas gift. This unit seems to have a lot of nice features....if they only worked!! I think I got a lemon.

Pros: I posted under the same name when I first got this but I finally got to try it out in Orlando/Kissimmee. Worked great used it almost everywhere we went with the exception of Disney World (That’s World not Land for you trolls out there) but like someone posted we did not need it for that. We had a lot more fun knowing how to get to places. Great GPS.

Cons: We swung by Miami for a while. The humidity was so high that the tape that covers the SD card came off. It started locking up so I reset the card, it fixed it.

Other Thoughts: Still waiting on rebait.

Rating + 4 Does the job...

Pros: Starts quick; GPS acquisition is very fast; re-routing is fast; clearly shows next turn by pink/red arrow as well as road name and turn symbol; when turn is ahead, a big turn symbol covers the screen along with voice.
It alerts turn at 1 mile, 1/2 mile, .2 mile and right at the turn.

Cons: Speaker vibrates or sounds cheap (seems like it can't handle full volume).
It reverts back to GPS position after a while of browsing map. I wanted to see map of another city and it let me browse there and all of a sudden goes back to current GPS position.
Little hard to take the unit out from mount but gets easier with practice (or you can just slide one side and tilt other above the mount for easy dismount but it won't be there firmly.)

Other Thoughts: Recalculating after missing a turn took me through a longer way than prompting for a U-turn to come back to the previous street. So, for known streets, you can go faster than through suggested ways.

Pros: Work fine. Found signal quickly and held on to it.
Inexpensive!!!

Cons: keyboard could be better.
UI not very intuitive.
Difficult to remove from the car mount

Other Thoughts: Some people noted in their reviews that it could not find disneyland. I was travelling to LA and was worried about it. But glad to confirm that it not only found dineyland, it also found most other attractions around LA.

Pros: Text To Speech is good. Great accessories included. No problems. Fast, accurate. People say it can't find Disney. Funny my unit finds Disney World in POI's. Must read manual!

Cons: Can't set speed warning. Speeds.preset to what they think it should be. Not a lot of customizations.

Other Thoughts: Most people having operating problems never bother to read manuals. Can't get a better unit for a $100 AR

Pros: locking is good, not that fast as advertised. TTS is very nice, must to have to GPS. Software destinator is good, I like it. Hackable.

Cons: Housing not that good. Bad business model to seal the SD card for warranty. Software address does not allow ZIP code input, are we living in US? Hard reset seems weird for me, why not call it on/off?

Cons: It's a cheap toy to play with. It isn't a Tom, Tom or another real GPS. I gave wrong directions and actually asked me to make a "U" turn when my dest. was in sight

Other Thoughts: If you really need this for direction, buy a good one, this isn't it! Can't be updated, they even say that if you remove th smart card, you voided the warrenty

Rating + 3 Battery drain when the unit is off

Pros: The main Pro is the price.

Like MIO C310, the GPS can be hacked to run other navigation software.

The battery last for 4+ hours when fully charged.

Cons: The battery drain completely in a week unused when it was new (and a lot shorter a few months later or in the winter).

The GPS is somewhat sluggish (slower CPU and slower signal pickup than MIO C310)

The GPS is quite bulky.

Rating + 5 Pharos Drive 150 GPS

Pros: Signal was accessed in less than ten seconds. Voice prompts clear and understandable. Bright display. Great interface for $99.00. Comes with all accessories, you might want to purchase a screen protector. Maps are good not great. Solid dash mount. Need to read manual to extract all abilities of unit. I gave this unit a 5 star because of the value for price. Recalculates quick.

Cons: Maps need updating, but from previous experience with Pharos I believe they will support the unit with upgrades. A liitle hard to get out of holder.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for 150.00 with a 50.00 rebate = $99.00. I can't complain for that price. would I buy again? Yes, I personally would go as much as 150 or so with no rebate. If you are looking for budget that will help you find your way once in a while this is it. Personally I'll use this maybe 20 times a year at most.

Rating + 4 Great GPS for the price

Pros: It has a good number of features that are found on more expensive GPS models, like text-to-speech, auto-rerouting, touch screen, auto day-night background lighting, and it uses the latest GPS chip(SIRF Star III). The interface is simple and intuitive. It picks up signal fairly quickly even on a cold start. The most I've had to wait is about a minute but once it has the signal it stays locked on. According to the company's website, they will provide free map updates. Hopefully they will offer other features like background styles or more points-of-interest.

Cons: Once you put the device into the car holder, it's a bit difficult to get it back out. The text-to-speech voice is not natural speech, it may not always pronounce the street names correctly. It routes using major roadways so some directions may not always be the most efficient way to get to your final destination. However, from what I've read that's how other GPS units decide their routes as well. There's not that many points of interest. The closest gas station from my house was not listed within its database. The support for the product has been a little slow, but it is a new product.

Other Thoughts: This is my first GPS unit. I took a chance with this product after reading its specs and reading reviews of the company's other products. The reviews that I read suggested their products used good navigation software so I bought the product hoping they had fixed any product design problems which gave negative points to its other products. So far I haven't been disappointed by this units performance. For its price I would recommend this product to anyone thats looking for a simple GPS unit. If you want something that has more features like a media player look at some other product. Also, since this product uses windows as its OS, I assume you can hack it. I think one of the first reviews of this product had said the person was able to run the Tom Tom software.

Rating + 5 Good little GPS

Pros: For the money it can't be beat. Locks on quick, is pretty accurate, found one street it didn’t know about, no big deal. Beats my IPAQ PDA based GPS hands down. SO much easier to use than the PDA version. No fancy case but I bet you can drop this ugly little sucker and it will live through it. I like it better now that I know it can't find Disney World.

Cons: It reverts to full volume and brightness when restarted but it is easy to adjust these settings. It is a little tight in the mounting bracket but seems to be easier to remove with use. The text to speech gives some comic relief when it mispronounces a street name. My biggest gripe is the way the price shot back up before I could buy a few for gifts, even without the rebate they were a great deal. As far as using it for GeoCaching... Get a real GPS for that, something like the Garmin ETrex, I have one and it is great for offroad adventures, this one is not.

Other Thoughts: As for not being able to find Disney World... WHY? If you cant read all the signs leading the sheep to the fleecing maybe you don’t need a GPS. Oh, and by the way, we were launching rockets over here on the coast before The House of Mouse was even there, it looked a lot better as Orange Groves! Welcome to Florida, arrive on vacation, leave on probation.

Rating + 5 Great for the $$$

Pros: After comparing side to side against the Navigon 5100, aside from the traffic function and better screen resolution, I'm finding it difficult to justify the extra money for the Navigon!
Thanks Pharos for including the AC Adapter/Charger! I hope their competitors are listening to this!

Cons: Cheesy sticker covering the SD card that will "Void" the warranty if removed. Car mount needs one more axis of rotation.

Other Thoughts: Great little unit, complete accessory package included in the price! Please open up the SD Card slot for owner use!

Rating + 5 Nice Little Unit

Pros: Price (75$ with Paypal Discount) Solid Unit, Bright Display, Easy Set up, Did I mention the price??

Cons: The Window mount is a little clunky, and the AC (Car) Adapter fits somewhat ackwardly into the mini USB adapter. The Poor voice also really butchers some address (Saint Elm became Street Elm..LOL), But these things really are not big deals at all.

Other Thoughts: This little unit is great. It picks up a signal in about 1 minute (warm) or 2-3 minutes (cold) and it recaculates routes EXTREMELY quickly. The Display is bright and easy to read, and the options (2D to 3D and others) are really good. Probably not as good as a Tom Tom or Garmin from the user interface side, but if you want a reliable GPS for driving with, this will give you your best bang for the buck.

Rating + 3 Works fine for the $$ you pay

Pros: Inexpensive unit with many useful features. Text-to-speech. Comes with a case, wall and car adapters, USB cable, car mount. A stylus is useful as on-screen buttons are sometimes too small for fingers.

Cons: GUI and map not very nice looking. Favorite group icons menu is there, but no icons to pick from. Signal is sometimes slow. Unit of measurements only in miles not feet. Can't enter address by zip code. Comes with only 1 color scheme. Once the unit is snapped on to the car mount, it's very hard to take it out. Only 8 MB built-in memory.

Other Thoughts: Got it for $99 (after $50 mail-in rebate). I guess I'd be happy with it if I hadn't compared it with another brand. My friend happened to get another brand for the same price without rebate on BF. That unit can play music/video and has 64 MB built-in memory. The map/GUI is much nicer looking. So I regretted not getting that same one. But without comparison, the unit is fairly decent; it does what it's supposed to do.

Rating + 4 Works Great / Plenty of features

Pros: Recalculates routes quickly, text to speech (street names), long battery life, easy to use, many advanced features in this unit, Tech support is out of Calif and they speak English. This is a great solid unit. If you down load Microsoft's Active Sync software you will be able to access the internal files on this GPS. I added icons for various address books through the active sync software. Tech support said that they will be providing more skins in the future. At $99 after rebate you can't go wrong. The GPS market is exploding who knows what products will have for features in 12 months after the warranty period - so don't buy that very expensive unit just yet. This unit is a solid buy.

Cons: No way points, one skin at this time but more coming. Had a problem with what seemed like a slow response when entering data - however it turned out to be my fingers were hitting two requests at the same time. Used the included stylus and problem gone. Most folks will not have this problem as I have large hands. Adjusting sound volume little tricky on screen with my big hands but no problem with stylas.

Other Thoughts: I am very happy with this unit, wanted to have way points but not really needed as you can put the way points in your address book and just select the next one when needed if you are going to stop for extended time. Read the manual as there are so many great functions in this unit that are practical and fun. Great buy, also it has all the accessories wind shield mount, car charger adapter, home charger, charges through USB, USB cable and pocket case that can attach on your belt. This unit also has a walking /bike mode which is great when you are on foot and the 7 hour battery life makes life so easy. You can put this unit any where in the car and not worry about having the charging cord in the way. Also it has a detour capability that you can select which will route you around an accident or traffic jam, go to the mfg web site and down load the manual.

Rating + 5 PDR150 Works like a charm

Pros: I didn't have to charge before using. Seems to boot up quickly. Very accurate. Tons of POI's. Intuitive menuing system, easy to use, lots of user options. Great value for the features (such as text-to-speech & headphone jack).

Cons: Lack-luster design, housing pretty basic. Graphical User Interface (GUI) appearance could be better. The windshield mount is cumbersome, but works well. There is a seal over the SD card slot that renders the slot useless as it voids the warrantee if removed (the installed card has the mapping info. on it). Could be better customer support (see note below).

Other Thoughts: Worked right out of the box & directed me to a new golf course where I had a tee time. Tested this GPS all weekend: Found an obscure address in downtown Dallas with easy to follow voice prompts; POI's included all current gas stations and restaurants in my area, seems comprehensive. Maps are really up-to-date and included newly developed residential neighborhoods in my area. Pharos is behind on the support for the PDR 150/250. I called the company support number and was told that Pharos is "working on updating the web site for these products." They took my email address and said they will contact me when they have a system in place to register the 150/250 GPS units & indicated that map and software updates will be available online soon. We'll see! Otherwise a great GPS for the money (even without the rebate) which I highly recommend.

Rating + 1 BUYER BEWARE

Pros: -

Cons: Unlike most other GPS systems, the Pharos PDR 150 (and PDR 250) do NOT allow users to search by GPS coordinates. This renders the system completely useless for things like hiking and geocaching. Pharos support stated that there were no plans to add a search by GPS coordinates to the PDR 150 or PDR250. It's hard to even consider this product as a "GPS system" given the absense of this critical feature.

Other Thoughts: The time the system takes to locate its current location is particularly slow, especially indoors.

Rating + 5 Apparently a reliable deal

Pros: Price (specially if you purchased it on the Black Friday special), user friendlyness, screen clarity (has night vision mode), voice is not annoying, good amount of settings options to choose from in order to personalize it effectively, generous amount of basic accessories to further save you money, reliably has found every address I have put in it so maps are trustworthy.

Cons: If you're a very picky person you might get annoyed at how often street/ave names are mispronounced and nearly impossible to find sites for software updates (but havent noticed any bugs yet that call for any updates).

Other Thoughts: My girlfriend and I are currently apartment hunting and I will be putting in some extra hours at work making some deliveries for the holidays so this is going to not only save me lots of frustration and time, but make my job seem less tiresome during this crazy time of year. Would've given this item a 4 but for 99 bux you get everything you can possibly NEED as far as a GPS system is concerned so gets a 5 from me. Suddenly I'm looking forward to the road trip we're taking sometime next year even more.

Pros: Very nice interface with bright screen. Excellent maps and tracking. Text to speech is awesome. Very accurate. Fast sat acquisition. Great battery life. Pedestrian mode. Nice accessories (case, ac adapter, etc.) included.

Cons: POI's seem to be old and outdated. No way to update POI's as far as I can tell. Website has no update for this model but, bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb it's only been around a few weeks.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I'm very impressed. I like this better than my sons TomTom One for navigation because of text to speech. Wish it had better POI's or a way to add more. 1.3 million is a little less than TomTom's 5 million+.

Pros: SirfStar III - quick signal acquisition. Text to Speech feature was pretty good.

Cons: Not as easy to use as a Garmin. May have some accuracy issues - my home was way off on the map;

Cons: POI's are out of date. Could use a larger database. My closest Walmart is 6 miles away but it shows only major large city Walmarts over 100 miles away. Local restaurants show up but some are no longer in business.

Other Thoughts: No freezing problems here. You have to enter street name without number first and then it will prompt for street number, otherwise it will return an error. I suspect some users do not input correctly.

Cons: Signal acquisition was a bit slow on startup.

Pros: 1. Price - Cant beat 99 bux after rebate for gps with features comparable to other $250+ name brand units, (if you got it on sale) 2. user friendly for the most part. 3. decent text to speech voice. 4. doesn't seem to be missing any of the standard options of similiar callibar units.

Cons: one more axis of rotation on the mount would be nice to tuck the unit up closer to the window, but not too big of a deal.

Its a bit tricky to plug in the car adapter power to the unit, especially while driving. the right angled head interfears a bit with the mini usb cover that folds down the same direction.

Other Thoughts: The unit housing is a little "old school" looking but compact with a good enough display to not matter so much...

Regardless of the minor negatives I'll still give this a 5 because of its excellent price to performance ratio.

Rating + 5 Great GPS For Price

Pros: Has lots of features you find on much more expensive GPS such as text to speech, StarIII antenna, walking mode, and rerouting. After playing with it for about an hour I understood the menu options (this is my first GPS). Has voice prompts such as unreliable gps signal and excess of speed. Great battery. A great GPS for the price.

Cons: Lost GPS signal on the interstate for about 5 min,low price is tied to a rebate…we will see how that goes. If you want to update software/firmware you must register the device. To register you need the UPC and a registration code. Mine did not come with a registration code, had to send an email to the company, now waiting for reply.

Other Thoughts: POI are a little lame. I tried to add Walt Disney World’s GPS address; it could not find it, maybe after I update the maps.

Rating + 1 First impression not good - freeze on me

Pros: Quite easy to set up and quickly/correctly locked signal and obtained position while I still in garage with garage door CLOSED. UI seems to be intuitive enough, at least I don't need to read anything. BUT... all these are useless if you can't get it to do what it supposed to do - give me direction. Read on on Cons to see why I give it "Very Poor" rating...

Cons: Freeze every time it tries to calculate the route. Yes, right after I enter a destination (address) and hit go, it will bring up the hour clock and the clock hand starts to rotating, and boom, it freeze right there. Have to reset this thing to start all over. And try again, same thing, and again, still same thing...

Other Thoughts: Ordered on 11/23 and received 11/28. I am in northen CA. UPS sucks... USPS might be faster, and probably cheaper. As for the GPS, I've had it for tonight. I will give it another try tomorrow morning when I go to work. I suddenly realized why this product has "Limited Non-Refundable 30-Day Return Policy". So, my suggestion is - "DON'T EVEN BOTHER"...

Pros: Haven't tried hooking it up to a computer or my T-Mobile Dash yet, but it's got the cable... Seems to do what it's supposed to.. New Egg shipped it fast.

Cons: No BlueTooth - not that I'd probably want to mess with that anyway, it works fine on its own.

Other Thoughts: I never quite understood why people want these things, but after using one in a rented car for a few days for business meetings in unfamiliar territory I'm thoroughly hooked. Buying this one cost me just twice what it cost to add one to my Hertz Rental for 3 days.
