Average performance
Pros: Quickly recalculates route when a step is missed, fairly bright display, I like the SD card slot.
Cons: Only ships with a auto power adapter and the battery life is poor. Interface not very intuitive but you eventually get the hang of it.
Other Thoughts: If you are an urban warrior and are going to use this walking you will need to purchase an AC to auto power adapter to per charge the unit.

Not worth it
Pros: Low price, voice feature is a nice plus, accurate at locating current coordinates, easy to use right out of the box.
Cons: Map is terribly inaccurate and not trustworthy. There is no free or paid update available for the map. This takes an otherwise excellent unit and makes it nearly worthless. Also, it does not hold charge long.

Lots of functionality
Pros: Windows CE device easy to hack and tweak to run games, movies and play mp3's on top of doing the built in GPS functionality. SD Card slot!
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: NewEgg. Love it.

Mio Pocket
Pros: CHEAP! Win CE5 underbelly - standard mini USB connection that you should have by now with your cell phone for charging - comes with car charger and nice mount - CHEAP! Got mine at A-zon. Would have bought here if the 79 price had been there earlier (was 149 when I went looking for this)
Cons: 3.5" - routing not the smartest - bat life could be better (the C220 has a 1250 mah bat, this one has an 850? - what gives Mio?) you can put the C220 bat in this if you're handy - install the missing HPhone jack while you're in there - calculating routes takes a short minute but hey, I'm not in that big of hurry
Other Thoughts: I got this pup for the sole purpose of hacking it with Mio Pocket. Fun little project that makes this gadget much more useful. Tried first placing everything on the SD but it didn't like that. Make room on the flash and do it from there ... no problemo. Had to remove a couple big maps to make room but it's worth it as I'm not going there anyhow. If you don't have MP installed on this or other compatible device, you're missing out - gotta get back to my session of Bejeweled 2 ..... chow

Old maps
Pros: Easy to use, cheap.
Cons: Very dated map.
Other Thoughts: The map loaded onto the unit is dated 8/2007 and there are no updates available, either for purchase or free. They did have an update available, (for a fee), at one time but it must have caused problems as it is no longer available and users were asked to remove it. This GPS is a very good GPS for the price but without available updates it's not very accurate.

GREAT BUY
Pros: A great feature is Text-to-speech that states the name of street ,road or highway you are currently on and names the approaching ones .When you’re driving vocal commands are better than the actual map so you will not get into an accident.. Keep display away from direct contact with a bright sun ,it is hard to see just like a digital camera with a viewfinder ..The recalculation is great on this. I wanted to test how good the route recalculation was.. As a test, I wanted to go 5 miles away to my destination. The shorest distance is though the streets. That is how the mio routed this. There is an on-ramp to the highway near my house. I ignored the route that was suggested my the mio and turned on the highway instead. In about 5 seconds the mio c230 recalculated the route and got to my destination by highway without going back to the original route. A new route was calculated.
Cons: I find no cons with Mio Digiwalker C230.The reason I posted so many reviews is because the last ones were not completed. The last paragraph I wrote never shows up.This is my full review
Other Thoughts: With free downloads from the web it can turn as a PDA.I play music and divx movies ,read and write large text files on this baby.I did email Mio tech and spoke to them on the phone and they told me they are in the process of providing an update for the C230 .Another cool feature is that you can add POI. Lets say you want a certain chain store of all locations in the USA or just in your state. Or maybe you want all the beaches in your state. As POI. By using a program iGO POI Explorer you will be able to create your own or download from the web

Happy, but.......
Pros: Good portability, speaks names,Great Price. Standard MiniUSB interface
Cons: OLD MAPS, new ones not available. Made several mistakes in navigation at freeway exits. The interface is not as intuitive as my wifes Garmin
Other Thoughts: I'd shop around for a Garmin if I had it to do over.

No Updates in 2 Years
Pros: It kind of get's you were you are going. On Highway's it is just OK. It has taken me way off better known routes that a coworkers tom tom would take.
Cons: No updates. I went to their website the first week that I purchased it and complained that the route to my house sent me: 1. Down a dead end road 2. Tells me that multiple roads are not paved. They have been paved for more than 11 years that I know of. 3. The e-mail me information about updates to other Mio units but not this one.
Still never received a reply back from their customer service. Will never purchase again!

Pros: the satellite telemetry screen is kinda cool
Cons: installed software was dated 4/2005... many features do not match the pdf operating manual; which was dated 2007... daylite savings time was not adjusted correctly for the new 2006 standard revision. Screen brightness/contrast was not sufficient to view in daylight... I had to wait until 6pm to test the unit outside. It failed to register speeds under 2mph. Of the five GPS units that I have owned; this one was a 'joke'....or defective..??...perhaps some units are shipped with newer programming; which could possibly improve some of the problems I experienced... doubtful.

Pros: Works very well out of the box. Mounting accomodations call for ingenuity for protection by convenient dismounting of the unit to avoid robbery. Otherwise, you could lose some of the car windows.
Cons: PDF file prevents printing select directions that require many steps for 'configuration'. Acronyms should be explained. However, time will probably reveal the various functions.
Other Thoughts: Again, NewEgg is a superior merchandiser!!

PRICE CAN"T BE BEAT
Pros: I like it.You can have your choice of either using all highway and some roads to get to your destination.or you can use all streets (no highway at all) . I am not a real highway person,so this comes in handy. With a few downloads from the web,It can be used as a GPS\PDA. I used it today to get to place about 10 miles away and it worked like a charm.A female voice guides the direction verbally.Once you reach where you wanted to go ,It states-You have now arrived at your destination .
Cons: Dosn.'t have a complete up-to-date map and PIO(points of interest).I will email Mio Technology to see when the nest MAP update will be available.

Easy to unlock, but dumb directions
Pros: The text to speech is very good, hardly ever a problem...occasionally it will pronounce "Providence R.I." as; "providenshreeee", things of that nature. Also, the screen is very easy to read in the sunlight, better than many more expensive ones.
It has a USB port, so you can hook it to your computer for charging, or use the A.C. charger for your bluetooth headset, or the external rechargeable battery for your iPod.
This unit is also easy to unlock. This device has become MUCH more useful once I unlocked it. With a simple Google search you can find out how. You'll just need a USB cable and a SD memory card (not included). It used Windows CE so you can install a desktop, media player, games and the most useful application...and additional GPS program. I use Beeline GPS now for geocaching with my unit. Oh, and if you're handy with torrents you can find and install additional maps as well.
Cons: It's dumb. The directions you get from Google Maps make much more sense. For example, on a regular route I take it tells me, when I want to jump on the highway, to go past the exit on my side of the road, go down the road a ways, make a U-turn, and get on the exit on the other side of the median. It will also tell me to go south, into a neighboring state, to go north when it's 10 miles out of the way and no other mapping system will tell you that.
It will, usually, get you to where you want to go, but a little common sense goes a long way here. If I'm going on a long trip I'll edit the route using Google Maps at home before I leave.
I have fooled around changing the mapping to quickest, shortest etc to no avail. It's dumb in multiple modes.
Of course, if you unlock it there are other options out there, however I find the longabout directions to be maddening at times, especially if you don't know where you are and isn't that why we buy these things?
Other Thoughts: I have mixed feelings on this one. For this price it may be the best one, but I'd probably save a little more money and get a $200-250 Garmin.
However, unlocking it is cool as all hell. I love that my unit is more of a PDA than a GPS. When I travel into the city I'll throw on a couple of episodes of Sledgehammer! to watch on the train (I also installed a mono headphone jack, instructions on the web) and then use it to find my way around. I'll also use it playing paintball and geocahing.
It makes me with they would unlock these from the factory. I bet they'd sell a lot more.

Not a Good Buy
Pros: It works right out the box. Very Easy to read screen.
Cons: Got this as a christmas gift. Went on a trip and used the restaurant finder, and the top 8 were not even open anymore. Did some looking around. The maps were close to 3 years old. I called Tech Support and they informed me that there were new maps. So I asked if the new maps were covered since I have only had the machine 3 months. THey said that it was not and that I would have to pay another $75 for each and every map update from here on out.
Other Thoughts: I would go with something else. I am not a particular brand snob, but I would definitely go with something else just for the fact that with other companies you do not have to pay for each and every map update. Sorry I did not buy from newegg, but it was given as a gift. Just trying to save somebody some hassle.

Spunky little fella !!!
Pros: Great reception, could connect to satellites even indoors. Fast to recalculate route if you miss an exit. Lightweight.
Cons: Redundant warnings. Prepare to Take a left in 1 mile, 1/2 mile, 1/4 mile, 100 yards, 50 yards... Take a left now... GREAT if you have Alzheimer's.
Other Thoughts: Ordered Thursday morning, got it Friday afternoon. Great Job Newegg !!!
Menu's a little confusing, there is a little learning curve involved

Worth the dough
Pros: Great little GPS. I've owned several through the years, but never one that acheaved a lock as quickly as this one. Map system seems solid, text to speech is great.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: No AC adaptor, but if you own an iGO, and have the miniUSB connector for it, you're all set.

Gets you where you want to go, but not the best way.
Pros: The windshield mount is one of the best I have ever seen. I wish other included mounts were this good. Touch screen works well and the unit seems sturdy. The included car charger has a straight not curly cord. Curly cords can pull on a gps if it is located far from your power outlet. It will also charge other mini usb devices. I often charge my bluetooth headset with it. Text to speech works well most of the time. The maps are fairly up to date.
Cons: Points of interest are limited, out of date and sometimes just wrong. I often find it telling me there is a gas station when there is nothing around, like there was never even one there. The routing can be very flaky. It doesn't always send me the same way when using the same start point and destination. If you live near private and public dirt roads and say that it should route using dirt roads it can tell you to use the private one. Maps cannot be updated. The user interface is confusing. Many of the settings are in places that do not make sense.
Other Thoughts: I bought this gps for my parents but after I tried it out I knew they would be confused by it. I bought them a TomTom one XL instead. I kept the digiwalker for myself. I want to hate this gps but it does get me where I want to go but sometimes the routes don't make any sense. If you want a cheap gps this can do the job just expect to use your better judgment. I've learned to not rely on it's points of interest. A weird thing about the digiwalker is when you first turn it on it asks you calibrate the touch screen with the stylist. It does not include a stylist.

Great little gps
Pros: * Text to speech * Colorful screen that can be seen in bright daylight * Compact size * Quickly locks on to satelites
Cons: * No power cord - only cigarette adapter. However you can charge using a mini usb cable. * Somewhat confusing menu. Takes some time to find out where everything is on the menu
Other Thoughts: This is really a great little device. I feel that Text to Speech is the most important feature to have in a GPS. It is nice to hear "turn left on Main Street" instead of "turn left in 200 feet".

WOW..Nice Maps..Very Fast..SD card
Pros: All I can say is wow.. I got mine for 129.99 You can also get it for the same price if you just look around your local stores.. Radio Hint Still love you Newegg! My wife has a TOMTOM One3rd "Newest ONE" And I used it. After I got mine, I saw how much better it really is. The MIO c230 calculations are so fast compared to the tom. 200miles or so under 10 seconds, Tom took like 20 25 seconds.. You can upgrade voices, Speedcams, and Backup your POI with the SD Slot.. The MAP details are the best, The zoom, driving view is very nice, Showing you the Coming roads from 1.5miles away.. Tom shows no roads ahead, WHY? Dragging the map is very nice and quick. Text to speech only has one Voice, but it does work well, and keeps your eyes on the road instead of looking at the screen for a road name. Everything is all about the maps, The details when using the driving mode is the best.. It zooms in auto, and has many changable features. The device itself is strong bright LCD!
Cons: battery 2hrs Over speed limit it has if the map has the speed limit set, but does not have the feature to set a speed like 50mph, and tell you your over the speed. TOMTOM has this.. But I can live without it because the other features are GREAT!
Other Thoughts: FAST MAPS, FAST FINDS, FAST ROUTES. You can calculate your routes to Eco for fuel mileage, Routes for fastest, routes for Shortest, Routes for Emergenc Vehicles, and some others.. Updating can be done online, with speed cams, Any new maps that come out, and adding voices just by placing the file onto the SD card. It finds the new voices itself after a restart. IT will take some time to learn, but once you learn, you see the great features it has compaired to others almost twice the price! You do need a MINIusb cable to usb for speedcam updates, and transferin POI to pc. You can backup right to your SD also.. Never locked up on me yet, 35 40 days and its plenty loud enough even for a tow truck. Friend has the MIO, and He Tows for a living, He loves his also, Mostly for the SPEED of the mapping!!! You will love it, Just take the time to learn the features, Promise you!

Mixed feelings
Pros: The unit finds the satellites very quickly. Great price for a text to speech unit. Very accurate with positioning. Rerouting was fast. I have no complaints with the performance and functionality of the unit. Works great.
Cons: However... The maps are horribly out-of-date for my area. It doesn't have the street I live on which has been around since before 2007 which was the version date for the map. Mio advised Tele Atlas has updates, which you have to pay for, but when you go to the Tele Atlas webpage to find the update it only has updates for Europe. The unit would be 5-stars if I could get updated maps. I am calling Mio, and Tele Atlas, tech support to resolve the matter. Hopefully I can because the unit would be a steal if they can resolve the map issue.

Great for modification!
Pros: This device, thanks to its USB plug and simple design, allows itself to be modded fairly easily. From updating the POI's to adding video-playing-capabilities, it's a great inexpensive unit that can do quite a bit.
Start-up times are pretty quick compared to other units. Simple, small design is great. Gets me where I wanna go easily. Keyboard disables letters that aren't part of a possible name (If you type an "m", for the next letter, only letters that correspond to pois/streets will be allowed - if that makes any sense).
Text-to-Speech is great for this price-point.
Cons: The interface can be difficult to "get" for first-time users. Very functional. Not so user-friendly. Some sections of the menus are difficult to comprehend, and the words used for some actions are vague.
Default set of POI's are severely lacking.
It's easy to accidentally touch the wrong button on the small screen.
Text-to-Speech lady speaks too much. Warns of upcoming turn 4 times in 20 seconds. Not only is it redundant, but I've got other things to pay attention to. Don't inundate me with those messages!
Other Thoughts: Overall, a great little device. Very happy owner!

desent
Pros: small, comes with mount and car charger. Will charge with USB but does not include usb cable.Points of interest is helpful and seems to very accurate.
Cons: POI does not show walmart, target, kmart ect. but you can find every other store imagineable. This is my first GPS. Had to read the instructions several times to help understand the usage. Still learning but will take you to your locations door step. Does not have wall charger but you can buy a 12 volt wall harger from a major auction site pretty cheap.
Other Thoughts: Seems to do the job for the price. It is helpful to input a future desination and look at all of the resturaunts ,ect. in that area.

Mio GPS
Pros: Many options for voice and colors on screen.
Cons: I bought this Products for my boyfriend for Christmas. The map card that is inside the GPS is constantly wrong, and many POI's (points of interests) aren't on the map or are at the wrong location. We've had experiences that when you get there you're 50 blocks from where the actual place is located.
That wasn't the best part about this GPS. One day it said that it had a low battery. After being charged for a few hours it still wouldn't turn on. Now after a month and a half I'm out a lot of money on a gift that worked for not even two months.
If you buy this product buy the warranty.

Great Device
Pros: Easy to use, cheap price, charges with standard 5-pin USB cable
Cons: Basic, no wall charger
Other Thoughts: Make no mistake this is a basic unit, but for those who want to be able to enter an address and get directions to it, and for those who make wrong turns and don't want to be completely confused, Mio will take care of you.

Mehhh...
Pros: -Small (portable). -Runs on a version of Windows CE which leaves room for hacking it some. -Charges and exchanges data using a mini usb port. -Uses SD card, but does not require it.
Cons: -The unit requires the user to recalibrate the touch screen each boot up. -No stylus pen included & it's almost needed. -Very hard & frustrating to navigate through & for POI's (Points of interest). For example I was attempting to find Walmart near me and Walmart was not in the list of POI's. -Can not adjust the volume.
Other Thoughts: This GPS unit is not an out of the box machine & requires lots of tweaking to be worth the money & even then it just not may be worth it at all. I previously bought a Garmin Streetpilot c330 for my girlfriend and if I would buy another GPS it would be a Garmin. It's easy to use and I get far more enjoyment out of using it.

Mio C230
Pros: Very accurate. Satellite acquisition in under 1 minute, within seconds using an external antenna. Bright & clear screen in any lighting condition. Text to speech. Small, light & portable. Volume is more then adequate for most uses. Menus are intuitive once gotten used to. Indispensable for night driving in unfamilliar territory.
Cons: Mediocre battery life, more like 1.5 hours opposed to the stated 3. No included wall charger or USB cable. Volume control could be easier to access.
Other Thoughts: This is my first GPS so I don't have anything to compare it to. I did hours of research before making this purchase and all GPS's have their quirks no matter how much you pay, so take anything you read with a grain of salt. Most of the negative reviews you'll find here and around the web are due to people expecting too much from the C230 or are completely technical illiterate. If you really want a GPS that plays MP3's and video, look elsewhere or buy a dedicated DAP. If you want a GPS for it's intended use without the added "fluff", this one is worth your consideration. If only for the minor cons I would've given it a 5.

Spunky little unit
Pros: Maps are loaded onto the device, not a separate memory card, hogging the slot.
Can be charged with your computer USB port.
I picked up a 2 GB SD Card, hacked the unit with ease. I can now save my customized routes, load saved routes.
TEXT TO SPEECH!!!!
Colors/Contrast/Brightness automatically changes depending on time of day (can be shut off)
Cons: Screen could be bigger, you are buy a budget unit though, so don't let this persuade you negatively.
No traffic, however they offer this unit with a traffic attachment in Europe?
Navigating through the menus can be tricky at times, it took me a few hours to learn it inside and out.
Other Thoughts: I purchased this device for ~$180 including taxes.
Easy. To. Hack. By hacking, I mean renamed a folder, and copying some files to it. No opening files and editing. You can tweak settings and import POI's from Google Earth, huge community base forming for this unit.

I think it is pretty easy to use
Pros: I had the unit working within two minutes of opening the box on Christmas eve. I got a signal in the house by the window and the cockpit view showed my street out front almost immediately. I have been driving around town with it on and made a trip to my sister's home two hundred miles away, and it has been right on, within about 10-20 yards. I have figured out how to customize the routes, avoiding dirt roads for instance, and how to add way points. It holds a charge for quite a while. Not bad at all especially considering the price.
Cons: Only USA maps - would be great for Canada or Mexico or Europe. No USB cable supplied and 5 pin minis can he hard to find (except of course at Newegg!). Hard to understand since they can be had retail for about $3. Very little written documentation or web information re what will be available when, or updates, or interfaces with Google maps or Mapquest for trip planning. Would be nice.
Other Thoughts: Re the AC power adapter: I bought an inexpensive one at radio shack - low profile so it only takes up the top plug-in in a regular outlet - that I also use with my Griffin iTrip for indoor charging and use. I have no idea how much RAM this unit has or whether it will need a memory stick (it has a SanDisk slot on the bottom) if Latin America, Canada, or Europe maps become available.

Pros: Text to speech is an excellent feature. Convenient cockpit view with next event, miles to next event, miles to destination, time to destination, estimated arrival time.
Cons: User interface is not that friendly. Some street numbers are not in its database. Reset to factory defaults once in one month use. Sometimes it leads you to dirt roads.
Other Thoughts: You'd better do your homework with Google Maps etc. before a long trip. MioMap under-estimates some of state/county highways, which may have 70mph these days, so that it might give you to a longer time/distance trip with interstates. Also, it would be nice to be able to handle both street name and highway number for the same road.

good starter GPS
Pros: It is my first unit, but it works well. It got me (hasslefree) to my hotel and to the airport on a recent trip, which was very nice. The directions were pretty accurate and easy to follow
Cons: Maps seem outdated. My development is 4 years old, and it places my house in a field. The last I checked, there were no downloads from MIO's site.
Other Thoughts: In Broomfield, CO, the POI was about 1/4 mile off, so it took some luck to find a restaurant. Same with a gas station.
Overall it was very helpful, but you cannot rely soley on the GPS

Mio 230 review - Excellent entry Level GPS
Pros: I have had this product for 3 weeks and have used it on a vacation trip and around my home town. This is an excellent *entry level* GPS especially for the price. It speaks the street names & that is a BIG help. My boss has the 220 without street names. It is small, light & can be used for walks, jogging & bike riding tracking your route & giving you speed and distance and time information. Make sure you get a USB-A to mini USB-B cable USB-6-AMB this will allow access to the device and allow you to charge it from your computer.
Cons: These cons are not deal breakers, just info on the product. It doesn't come with a USB cable, I purchased USB-6-AMB at newegg. They removed some of the Points Of Interest so they could fit the data internally I thought the POI were poor in Myrtle Beach. As with all GPS the unit is slightly off and will say "take second right" as you pass the first right. The audio adjustments are hard to get to but mute is on the map screen. The user interface took a bit to get used to. There are programs on the web for entering POI, I thought the interface was poor and not as accurate as it could be.
Other Thoughts: Drive around your home town for a week or two with it and get used to the odd things about a GPS. It isn't perfect, it is like asking the person on the corner how to get there. It may not be the best route but you will get there. There are also settings for shortest, fastest routes & hwy or back road. These can make a big difference.
If you are a hacker and want to use it as a media player while exercising remember this model does not have a headset jack. There are a few hacks out there. Don't forget a USB cable and a storage card!

Simple, Compact and Inexpensive
Pros: Sleek and compact design gets a signal quickly is ready to go when you unwrap the cellophane. Text to speech is very good - and even has day/night mode. More features than I'll ever use - but nice to have.
Cons: No AC charger other than cigarette plug USB. I plan to use a 120v AC adapter with a female cigarette plug end to "wall charge" without having to rely on the car adapter.
Other Thoughts: At first, the 3.5" chassis seemed to be too small - but it's convenience and ruggedness (yep, I dropped it on the first day) was quite impressive. I am eager to find out what MIO plans to do with USB in the future.
