Rating + 3 Not Happy

Pros: Good faming system. Fun to go online and play socom and use for music and the internet.

Cons: Finds itself on the charger alot. Battery life is not great, but is not that bad. Magnet for finger prints and scratches. Take very good care of it. 1 drop and this system is good for the garbage most likely.

Other Thoughts: I recieved mine with a 1 dead pixel. Not happy at all. Will RMA it. I don't like the idea that I must pay to ship it.

Pros: Whats not to love? Mp3, MP4, Game player, pictures, Wifi, and an LCD screen.

Cons: Speakers can be a tad bit louder...

Other Thoughts: For all you people complaining about buying UMD videos again to play it on ur psp you can simply buy a converter software that converts ur dvds into mp4 format that fits nicely into ur psp memory stick...the program is about 20 bucks and a 4 gig stick is like 45 bucks now and can fit about 6 full length movies...in a half an once stick...6 movies...beat that DVDs

Rating + 5 A great unit for those older than ten.

Pros: Shelf life, battery's life span, visualk quality in games, future upgrades, firmware updates, software features, internet, converted DVD's are supported (free movies), music, cheap memmory sticks (4GB=70 bucks), infrastructure, the list goes on.... and on.... and on....

Cons: There are some definate cons here, though they are very few.
Movies are no longer an issue (so that can't be a con now)

Battery life's getting extended this year, so, that's not a con anymore....

Games continue to come, so I guess there aren't any cons now! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Other Thoughts: There's going to be a 30% slimmer version with a third more battery life. It'll weigh less too.

Five stars for now, five for the future!

Rating + 5 Great System

Pros: Portable PS2.
MP3 Player, easy connectivity, better than an ipod with significantly less memory and battery life than an ipod video.

Cons: How hard would it have been to put 2 analog sticks on this system? Ought to make a slim version 2.

Other Thoughts: Way better than a DS. This will hold sony during this console war.

Rating + 4 hold off on this

Pros: nice display

Cons: low battery life, analog button is annoying, and slow load time with some games [Read other thoughts]

Other Thoughts: for anyone who wants to get a psp i would suggest waiting until september when they release the revised version of it. i wasn't aware of this at the time i bought my psp and now i wish i would have waited. they're adding some new things to it, making it lighter (not sure how i feel about that) and giving us more colors to choose from. so unless you have to have one now i would hold off on buying a psp until they come out with the revision 2 version.

Rating + 2 Great screen, poor system

Pros: Bright and colorful screen. Powerful piece of hardware. Reasonably compact.

Cons: Poor battery life (3 hours max with decent brightness). Games are weak with very very few exceptions. Needs a second analog stick. Dead pixels. Weak volume even with decent quality headphones.

Other Thoughts: For a portable gaming device, it sure tends to be tied to its power cable a lot, the battery tends to run out in a little over 2 hours unless you play with low volume and turn the brightness way down. Potentially, I think this could have been a very good portable gaming system. However, it's brief battery life and lack of good games make it an overpowered movie player which will play only one movie between charges.

Rating + 1 Who's responsible for this autrocity?

Pros: There are pros? It doesn't even make a good door stop!

Cons: PS1 level graphics, no good games, "UMD" only works on PSP (means it's not universal),dead pixels, small screen, tinny speakers, costs too much, and I think it physically looks ugly.

Other Thoughts: The price at least dropped some, before I could get a DS and a portable DVD player for less so I could play many good games and watch movies on a much larger screen. I could then go home and watch the movies in my home DVD player with an even larger screen with 5.1 audio w/out buying 2 copys of the same movie.

Rating + 5 If it had a touch screen it would beet the !PHON3

Pros: Its my portable RvB player and TV remote. Biggest screen in portable gaming! 16.7 million colors, it could reach 1080p before it even existed (metaphorically) WIFI! You can play games online, something the D$ wasn't MADE to do. Internet browser is comparable to like IE 5 doesn't to do much, but you still get internet on that little thing.

Cons: Can't fit every season of RvB on my 2GB pro duo. The place I bought it at gave me a bad time. Newegg rocks forever. They charged me to much and gave me a refurb when Purchased a used one. Went back gave them my business, they refunded my money let me buy a new one. Worked for like 2 months called them they sent me an rma #. Cost like 8 USD to ship it, had a brand new one in a week. Had a problem with my !pod that same week, and it cost me 60 USD to get it fixed.

Other Thoughts: Needs a touch screen. I've said it since the day i bought it (about a month after release) would totally beet out the !phone years before the thing even came out. PS3 remote play is amazing. Media server running of computer streaming to ps3 to psp all through my wifi.

Rating + 5 Solid Portable Console

Pros: Best screen in portable gaming device or portable media player anywhere. This isn't even the same device that it was at launch, thanks to consistent firmware updates. Many more features now available with latest firmware. Wifi! Supports MS Duo Pro Memory Stick. Plays my converted movies perfectly. Works well as a portable MP3 player. Could not be happier with current and future/planned game library. Interfaces with my PS3 over wifi - more interesting things to come from Sony on this front. The menu interface, shared with the PS3 and the original PSX, is elegant. My 6 yr. old son can get around in there without issue. It's even cheaper now than when I purchased mine. The price is right for what you're getting. Don't make a mistake by comparing this with other, less capable portable devices. It's in a class of its own. The target audience of this device is not the same as those targeted by Nintendo. From what I've seen, this should be a good year for PSP owners.

Cons: UMD disc load times are abysmal, but I knew that prior to the purchase. Music organization could be vastly improved. Feels heavy after playing a while. Where's the GPS and keyboard attachment over here in the states? UMD movie prices way too high to justify purchasing any of them, especially if you already have the same movie on DVD. On occasion, they'll sell for about $5. They're probably worth it at that price. I've bought a few at that price just to enjoy them at full resolution, but I don't ever find myself revisiting them over and over, like I do games.

Other Thoughts: This is a great portable media device that I can play amazing games on, check my email with, browse the web with (limited, but still useful), and access RSS feeds/podcasts on when I'm near a hotspot. Get the Media Manager for the extra dough though. I resisted at first, but I'm glad I picked it up. It's actually a good product to use with this device. You'll also want a screen protector. They're a PITA to get on there, but necessary to keep the screen from getting scratched. You should apply one in the first 10 minutes of receiving your PSP. I picked up Logitech's hard-shell case for this thing. It's a pain to open it to do anything, but also necessary. 4GB Memory Sticks are CHEAP now (~$50). Since the best price-point is going with a 2-3 4GB sticks for movie/music storage, you won't be bringing your whole media library with you if it's huge like mine. Since the music organization works better when approached with a "playlist mindset", this works out okay for my needs.

Rating + 5 My "Everything" Gadget

Pros: I've had this for six months now. No problems or complaints. I use it for MP3s at work, AVI/MP4 movies for travel, and gaming for entertainment.

Cons: Web-browsing takes some getting used to - but what do you expect?

Other Thoughts: I wish the UMDs were made a little stronger - I haven't been as careful as I should've about how I've stored them. The PSP, itself though, has performed as good or better than I expected.

Rating + 3 Nice, but could have been better

Pros: Looks nice physically. It feels nice and is a good weight for a portable system. Screen is nice and big and the games look really good on it. Homebrew games/software available if you have the know-how. Plenty of good games out already, and many more to come.

Cons: The fingerprint thing does suck. Constant firmware updates gets old. Many games seem a bit overpriced for what they are, especially for portable games. System itself was once more expensive than maybe it should have been. The new price is a bit more fair. UMD movies are a joke.

Other Thoughts: I've had mine since a few weeks after launch and after about 6 months, I was pretty much done playing commercial games. They were costing me too much and not getting enough play for the cash. I found more enjoyment from homebrew games (no, not piracy of commercial games, but freeware games by independant developers). Many of those games are more fun then the ones I paid $40 for. So, there's more out there than what you see on the shelf. If you have one and have lost interest in it, consider looking around the net for some good and interesting stuff made by gamers like us. Honestly, though, my PSP doesn't go anywhere with me anymore. However, my DS lite goes with me just about everywhere.

Pros: Amazing LCD, Kickin' graphics, nice audio (with headphones) does just about everything you could want in a handheld. Watch movies, view pics, play games (online too), listen to music, even sync-up your Tivo recordings for viewing on the go!

Cons: Fingerprints and dust and that I didn't buy this thing sooner.

Other Thoughts: I like to travel light but wanted something to game on (my 12 inch work laptop just doesn't cut it in the graphics dept - lol). This thing is perfect! Not a kids toy.

Rating + 4 Incredible, with the right firmware

Pros: With dark-alex firmware this thing is incredible. Who cares if there are PSP games out when you can play psone games. Portable videos and music are a nice bonus for trips.

Cons: Lack of killer psp titles. Controls uncomfortable after long hours of playing. Memory sticks are still expensive, but getting cheaper. Battery life is ok, could always be better.

Other Thoughts: 4 out of 5 stars for Sony trying to lock the firmware down on this. If they had an open firmware model this would be the perfect, 5 out of 5, handheld.

Rating + 3 Strange.

Pros: Ok, so, stylish screen and various other goodies like Mp3 player and movie player as well...

Cons: Ehhhhhh Dead pixels are very very common now and days with various Psp.

Sonys lame Warrenty on Dead pixels.

Slow load times.

Easily scratched screen.

Battery life, oh so short.

Some stuff for this product are wayyyy overpriced for what they're really worth.

Other Thoughts: Ok! So this is the deal... I've ordered this on the 25th and my product came today on my front door step... First thing i noticed was the package was tampered " Grr. " Didnt mind but then i noticed various plastic bags for the cables and booklet were missin'... I then recharged the product for bout four hours when i found out " When i turned it on " The screen was leaking of ink from the LCD screen. Apparently the LCD screen was damaged, maybe during the shipping. Some screws were missin as well as for the warrently sticker located on the battery pack was almost take off...

As explained above...

Dead pixels, beware, no matter what PSP you buy it will ultimately infect itself with the pixel plege, just take care of the fragile console and it'll last while.

Rating + 2 Not the best buy in the world....

Pros: Well the wide screen is pretty cool and it has a nice outer design. Being able to play certain movies on it is cool too if you have any.

Cons: Well where should I start? Numerous complaints include the fact that dead pixels are very common. The screen is easily scratched. The analog stick hurt my thumb to use since it's so small. You had to update your firmware to play certain games. In order to play online, you need wireless even though a PSP can be connected to your PC though a USB cable. The lack of good games really ruins its value.

Other Thoughts: Honestly I have used it maybe 3 times after the year that I've had it. I do not recommend buying a PSP, at least not until Sony somehow makes it better.

Rating + 5 A great handheld.

Pros: 1. Currently, the PSP has a great line up of games. Metal Gear Solid, Syphon Filter, Ape Escape, and Loco Roco, just to name a few.

2. Excellent graphics, comparable to the Playstation 2.

3. Can be connected to the Playstation 3 (via wifi connection).

4. Multimedia functionality (can play video files, mp3s, etc).

5. Wifi internet capability.

Cons: 1. Scratches easily (a hard-case is recommended)

2. Battery life is short: ranges from 8-9 hours, when fully charged.

3. Additional accessories are needed, for the core system: USB cable, memory card, screen protector, case.

Other Thoughts: I am happy with my purchase of the PSP. It has many games, which should appeal to a more mature audience.

Rating + 2 A legendary piece of hardware, stillborn.

Pros: Graphics, big screen, not a gimmick

Cons: Terrible battery Life, poor marketing, forced UNNECESSARY firmware upgrades when you buy new software, dead pixels, smudges easily, scartches easily, lack of 2nd analog stick, lack of COMPETENT analog stick, poor placement of square button trigger, intentionally crippled clock speed

Other Thoughts: I bought this thing for 249 US dollars about three months after it came out, and every single day I regret the purchase. Sony has taken every step imaginable to try and murder its own creation through terrible commericals with ethnic stereotypes and courtship romps that show 0.4 seconds of gameplay. The top software for this handheld is even getting ported to the PS2 so companies can hopefully recoup some of their losses for putting their faith in Sony's handheld. The battery life is poor, the audacity to require security firmware upgrades is annoying, and quite frankly I'm sick of Sony's marketing scheme. This product could've been amazing, but Sony did everything it could to make sure its own product utterly failed.

Pros: Does everything i want it to. so far, i got a 4GB memory stick(from newegg), installed 3.10 modded firmware, and now i have a ton of classic Genesis, PS and psp games on it. everything runs great! good movie/mp3 player too!

Cons: scared me when i thot i bricked it.

Other Thoughts: psp games on the mem stick run waaaaaaaaaayyy smoother, use less power, and load quicker than off the disc. deff worth it. if u get issues w/ playing psp games off the memstick, just stick a game in the tray.

Rating + 5 Great Buy!

Pros: The screen on this thing is definitely the most noticeable thing about it, and rightly so. At 480x272 resolution its great for video and pictures as well as gaming.

The ability to load this thing up with music, videos, pictures, and game demos, as well as homebrew is awesome. I have found myself using the PSP instead of my mp3 player for my music files. And it is fun watching my home clips and showing them off to friends as well as watching IP.TV on the go.

The PSP is primarily a gaming machine and it handles that aspect particularly well. I own GTA VCS and it looks very good and plays nicely. It is almost identical to the ps2 version which is awesome. There are also a bunch of demos for games that are freely available.

The sliding thumb nob thing is a very cool idea. It is almost as good as a regular ps2 controller.

There is a web browser built into it which is great fun. It goes on 802.11b wi-fi, awesome for "war driving".

Out of characters , cont. in

Cons: Screen scratches way too easily. Get a screen protector right away. Either a clear one that goes directly over the screen or a flip down one that covers the entire face of the system. I have a flip down one from Pelican and it is great. About ten bucks at Best Buy. My screen has stayed nearly perfect with this protector. The only scratches on it are from when I tried cleaning it with a lens cloth that was good at first but as it dried turned almost paper-like. Be VERY careful what you clean the screen with. Soft cloth and some basic lens cleaning solution work well. My next purchase will be a screen protector that goes directly over the screen.

Memory cards are expensive. I found a 2 GB for 25 dollars new on E bay.

Finger Prints are very common all over this rig.

The web browser runs out of memory making viewing large sites hard and it renders pretty slowly. It has Flash version 6 but no flash video support (no youtube)

Other Thoughts: Continued from Pros.---------
You can download and save pictures and music/podcasts directly to the memory stick. The web browser's rendering of pages is pretty good. The "smart fit" setting it sizes them down to fit the smaller resolution of the screen.

There is also RSS support so you can stream music or videos or just save them to the mem. stick and listen/watch later.

Battery life is great but varies greatly depending on what tasks are being done. expect 4-5 hours of game play.

The music player will save where you are in a song or podcast after putting it into sleep mode which is handy for long podcasts.

If you plan on using homebrew this comes with 2.71 firmware which can be downgraded easily. Don't make the make the mistake of upgrading because then you will need GTA LCS to downgrade from 3.03. I am in the process of finding an unpatched version that I can use.

/Pros--------------------

Newegg shipping/prices, awesome as always! Thanks!

Rating + 3 Go With Accessories Package!

Pros: Excellent media system with awesome graphics. Wireless works great. Smooth interface.

Cons: Lousy typing system. If you want to type anything alpha numeric (i.e. web page addresses, etc.) you have to use a keypad interface similar to a cell phone. It takes you 10 mins. just to type in a web address!

Other Thoughts: If you are considering buying a PSP, go with the accessories package. Sony is so cheap on the basic package that they don't even supply a wrist strap! Also, you can't save games or do practically anything unless you have a memory card. With the Accessories Package, you at least get a wrist strap and a 32 meg card. Plus they give you a small carrying case.

Rating + 5 Very Nice!

Pros: The PSP is hands down the most powerful handheld console of today. With a 333mhz Processor and 32mbs DRAM it's like a Pentium 2 and maybe even 3 in your pocket! The graphics processing is incredible and well worth the price and if you understand home brew and C++ you can make your own games if you haven't updated it to the latest version yet. There's so much potential for this product

Cons: The joystick and on switch is flimsy I have owned 3 PSP's and the big issues I have had are having the Power switch brake, I replaced it, and the joystick, which I replaced too. I never use the UMD Slot so I never had a problem with it yet.

Other Thoughts: If you are going to buy a PSP look for one online or with a firmware below 3.03 and find a friend so that you can get OE and start making your own games and play games other people have made that are a lot easier and have virtually no load times. Even play backups of your games, which is nice because it loads MUCH faster.

Pros: Many multimedia features, Great Graphics, Relatively compact

Cons: Game load times are extremely Slow! Internet browser is for basic browsing ONLY! With newer firmware likes to freeze up and act down right wierd(while playing music the screen will sleep and wont come back on) Memory cards are NOT cheap

Other Thoughts: Look, as many cons as I gave it , it is really not a terrible system, I just think it should have been thought out a bit more. It tried to be what people want and only got about half way there.Music, Pictures, Video sections are all good. Games, internet sections are lacking and overall usability is not so great.BUT,It still is the only competitor in its class!

Pros: Excellent display
Great game graphics
Not just a game machine

Cons: Bit on the pricey side
FPS game controls difficult to get used to.
Game load times

Other Thoughts: Bought this for my son's birthday instead of a DS Lite, as Nintendo seems utterly incompetent to re-stock stores with stock after the Christmas rush.

I was worried about giving this to my 8 yr old with all the reports of fragility, but I think it's going to work out just fine. Seems much sturdier than it's critics like to say.

Yeah, the game availability isn't as good as DS, but most of the "kiddy" games don't impress me or my 8 yr old son either.

Pros: Optical (UMD) game storage allows for a richer gaming experience than cartridge based handhelds, especially if you like voice acting, FMV and detailed textures. Built in web browser, mp3/mp4 player and photo viewer brings handheld consoles into the current century. Online connectivity for some games adds replay value by allowing level and content downloads. Sony makes an improved battery (separate purchase, but at least one is available). Large, crisp 16:9 screen raised the bar for handhelds.

Cons: Even though I have never taken the PSP out of the house or have touched the screen, it still manages to attract every bit of dust and even a couple scratches.

Optical storage means load times are longer than the competition.

Does not come with any built-in flash so if you get the core, don't expect to even save a game until you invest in a MS Pro Duo card.

Other Thoughts: Don't haphazardly do a firmware update until you're 100% sure you don't want to dabble in the awesome homebrew scene. Firmware upgrades past 2.8 are irreversible, at least for quite a while.

Pros: This portable system is three times what the DS is supposed to be. I bought this for my daughter, she has had the GB Advance, GB SP, and a DS system from Ninetendo. I do not see anything that would make anyone choose the DS over the PSP. The games are much more crisp on the PSP.

Cons: Price, needs to be a little more competitive. Needs to have some built in memory. If music can be saved, this should be in MP3 and not WMA.

Other Thoughts: Highly recommend this, other than the price. If you can afford it buy it.

Rating + 4 Interesting experiment by Sony

Pros: A handheld gaming system and media player for adults done very nicely. In general, high-quality construction including a great screen and ample connectivity (USB, IrDa, 802.11b, Pro Duo). Active homebrew community adds some amazing value with PS1 emulation--being able to play FFVII again was worth the price alone. If you're into gadgets and video games and have the $, this is a must-have toy. UMD movies look great.

Cons: You need to invest a lot in Sony memory Pro Duo cards to really get the most out of the media player functionality. I bought a 4GB card to start, I would recommended at least 2GB.

Analog "nub" is kind of gimmicky, should've taken a cue from the NeoGeo handheld.

A little too bulky to be carried in a pocket, so isn't really a good replacement for an iPod for audio/video.

A little to fragile and complicated to appeal to the masses.

Battery life is not great, but better than some would have you believe. I get maybe 5 hours of mixed gaming/media usage.

For whatever reason, there really aren't that many "must have" games for this system. Sad, because the platform is amazing.

Will most likely fall to the wayside like every high-performance, expensive handheld system.

Other Thoughts: An improved analog stick, another $50 off of the price and a little better battery life and Sorny would be mopping the floor with the DS. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that this will be their last entry into the portable gaming market and we'll be stuck with the big N and its underpowered handheld systems.

Pros: awesome screen to watch south park! :) good sound quality, some great game. looks kinda cool. New features added constantly with new system update.

Rating + 5 Awesome little toy

Pros: Where to start, It's small for what you get in it, Screen is very nice, and looks amazing in the dark. The games are small and the little casing that they all have keep them scratch free. Fairly easy to work on the inside (See other thoughts) Games are nice for the quality, although most are basicly ps2 games, they still keep you entertained. Definately worth it if you have the money.

Cons: The joystick could have been placed better, i seem to get cramps if i play it for more than an hour. Some of the screws to get the faceplate off were EXTREMELY tight, i mean EXTREMELY. It's a figerprint magnet. Almost impossible to use in daylight due to the lcd screen.

Other Thoughts: Recently my inner screen got cracked and i ordered a new screen to install myself, other then the overtightened screws, it was amazingly easy, All i had to do was google some instructions and the rest was very easy. Maybe i just have a magical psp, but i get about 3-4 hours of battery life while watching movies, despite what some other reviews say. overall the pros outweigh the cons if you dont need to ever open it up.

Rating + 3 Kind of like the Game Gear of this Generation

Pros: Overall power, good graphics, other media functions, being able to turn it off in the middle of a game and it'll go back to where you were last, big screen, lots of classic arcade games to choose from.

Cons: Low battery life, not many original games, the joystick can be annoying, fingerprint prone, everything is expensive for it, not very durable, the loadtimes are excessive, lcd screen has a poor response time, UMD movies and games are expensive, uploading videos requires a special program as well as a usb cable.

Rating + 5 Portable Pwnage

Pros: This handheld is by a WIDE margin the best investment I have ever made. Version 3.0 firmware can play 2 movie file types, all the standard music file types, pictures, and has a fully working internet browser. The games on it look just about as good as the best of a ps2 and the play is smooth.

Cons: Mini-analog stick...its a little "too" small, if it were about 1/3 bigger then it would be a lot easier to use and more comfortable. Glossy finish is a fingerprint magnet, no harm done but it looks gross when its covered in handprints. Also it should be noted that the speakers on it have poor bass, they sound good in-game but when you play music on it withought headphones it makes it almost impossible to hear the low notes (aka bass guitar in queens "under pressure", or pianos playing low notes etc.) But that can be solved by a good set of headphones.

Other Thoughts: I would recomend a 2gb memory stick for this rather than a 1gb just because the memory sticks have about 100mb less space on them than advertised (mine did). This thing is great for gaming, and wathing videos/listening to music (with headphones of course).

Pros: It's a great machine. The display is amazing, the graphics and sounds are really amazing for a portable. I would rank it way above PS1 and a little below some of the best PS2 has to offer. Built in Wi-Fi, and versatile options. You can watch photos, listen to music and movies...as long as your memory card is big enough and your battery doesn't die out.

Cons: *Small game library
*Short battery life, be glad if you can watch a whole movie on one charge.
*The square button is flimsy, the nub that passes off as a thumb stick is laughable at best.
*Too many unnecessary updates.
*Screen is rather succeptable to scratches.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for fun with games, then you're in for a surprise. Great titles are a rare find. Once you get past the wow factor, you will be quickly bored with the hassle of loading photos and mp3s into the card. The sound quality for music is mediocre at best.
It's one saving grace is the easy with which you can play emulators, IF YOU DIDN'T update beyond 1.5 that is. Sad how the most exciting part of this console is the fact you can play other console games on it.

Pros: The PSP blows away the Nxxxxndo DS. Provided that you keep it updated, it has millions of tools and stuff at your disposal. Games for it are awesome, just bought Killzone: Liberation.

Cons: Updates, updates, updates. Read Other Thoughts. Not a problem, though.

The Internet Browser is kinda slow, even when you're standing right in front of a router. It has around 3-4 dead pixels now; only two are noticeable. Like others have said, the square button is flimsier than the others, but it doesn't bother me at all.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you have an Internet connection with a wireless router at home. when I bought it, it was version 1.x. When I finally decided to update, the latest version was 3.0. And not more than an hour later after I updated, there was yet another update for 3.1! It is well worth it though; every update has a new feature. :D

Also, the 32mb memory stick just isn't enough. an update alone needs 21mb of storage so it can download. Get a 1gb stick like the other have been saying.

Pros: Fantastic All-In-One player on the go. Get a Gig or higher flash card for it and your all set. Nice LCD screen, sound is fine, and all the tech goodies one would ever want.

Cons: Battery life if using it die hard. Square button, like everyone else says, gets flimsy but isnt a big deal. fingerprints are APLENTY with this unit, hence the black.

Other Thoughts: If you want the all-in-one player, go for it. If not, save yourself some cash for when some better games come out. i recommend that you get it now, so you can experience what this awesome little device has to offer.

Rating + 5 Great Portable System

Pros: Great system, I first tested it with ridge racer and I was impressed. The device only has 34mb of sdram, 333mhz 32bit processor, and it still can run visuals beautifully. The IBM gpu really does a good job with pixel rendering. It's audio processor/ramdac is pretty accurate too, it doesn't pop or distort easily and can do hardware equalization and other rendering stuff. Very accurate lcd, contrast and color wise. It's wifi certified wan device is has realitivly good range. I was impressed with the small dvdrom drive put in the device.

Cons: The lcd sometimes bleeds when going through rapid visuals. The netfront browser really isn't that functional, it has support for flash but not full resource, so applets run slow; no support for sun java either :-( and it's been awhile since sony released the device. Battery life could be better, can buy higher micro amp l-ion battery for extra hour.
Sony could of used better flash media besides mstick duo, like sd/mmc. Despite these minor set backs it is a excellent device.

Other Thoughts: Great machine, would recommend buying.

Rating + 5 Best Handheld

Pros: Let's see.. It plays games, movies, music, lets you view pictures and let's you surf the internet if you have a wireless infrastructure. The best handheld I say.

Cons: When trying to play The Sims 2, loading the UMD makes some noise. The Wi-Fi antenna isn't that strong but it's alright.

Other Thoughts: Buy a 1 gig memory stick, you're gonna want it. And also, I think they went a little too low on the price for what you're getting. Oooh, right, graphics on this thing are the ****. No joke.

Rating + 5 Great System

Pros: Great graphics and sound in a portable system. Plenty of battery life.

Cons: "keyboard" function and web browsing feels a little clunky until you get some practice with it.

Other Thoughts: get a screen protector, a playgear case, and a 1G+ memory stick as your first accessories.
Dont waste money on UMD movies. Just buy DVD and covert them to mp4.

Rating + 5 No Nintendo Junkies Allowed

Pros: I am no longer a nintendo fanboy. I bought this for internet browsing only...Then the games stunned me! Great sound, just get the Headbanger Ear Subs, and great video on movies. Slideshow is a cool feature for pics. *Burnout Revenge* is sweeeet!

Cons: ---REQUIRES A SCREEN PROTECTOR---
If you are getting this, put a screen protector in your cart with it. DS might be getting a cut version of Opera 9, sold mine for five bucks. Bummer...

Other Thoughts: If you nike garbage NES rehashes, aweful sound, no internet, no true DVD video, jaggy graphics, and sore wrists and, bent fingers, just do the stupid thing like I did. Buy a DS:) (It's worse with the DS lite)

Pros: For games - awesome, for movies - Amazing you can put them on the memory card if you have a brain and the internet don't go buy UMD movies, photos - great, For internet - its ok, and for music its great.

Cons: uhmmm... photos take a whole 2 secs to load sometimes ???? other then that none unless your not so smart and pay for stuff you can just do on your own

Other Thoughts: Thumb stick could of been placed better, kinda need to buy a hand grip if you have big hands

Rating + 4 Very good

Pros: Large, bright easy to read screen.
Good game selection.
Controls all in easy reach.
Holds well in hand.
Good Multimedia capabilities.

Cons: Battery life is abyssmal at best.
2 hours of game runtime, 4-5 hours of movie.
Screen scratches VERY easily, BUY STICK ON SCREEN COVERS, NOT THE PLASTIC ARMOR. Plastic armor makes controls hard to push, a five cent plastic screen cover works much better.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to use on my internetional flights, and was appaled at battery life. Had to buy external battery pack.
The WiFi was a nice feature, but is really useless untill a USB keyboard is released. Onscreen typing interface really slow and hard to use

Rating + 5 psp rocks

Pros: Large, crystal clear screen. Long battery life. Watching movies from memory stick has no load time. Movies fit screen good. supports multiple file types. can run awsome homebrew. Lots of games. Great internet capabilities. can play music. can watch live tv with location free player. takes rss feeds. has portable speakers. cheap memory (not really from non-online stores).

Cons: wifi eats up batterey. pics. load time kind of stinky. umd movies overpriced.

Other Thoughts: I've had my psp for 1 year, and have battlefront II, harry potter 4, need for speed most wanted, and nba live 06. I also have a 2gb memory stick. uploading files is easy but make sure you format memory stick first. I use all functions of my psp and i think that it's worth every penny i spent on it (alot)

Rating + 2 Amazing system, poor software to back it.

Pros: awesome media capabilities, handful of good games, beautiful design

Cons: price, not really ps2 quality graphics more of a ps1.5, $xx games, no competitive online mode mostly only local "ad hoc", proprietary storage devices(cards and UMDs, umd movies are too expensive, feels as though if i drop it once i could break it into 10000000 pieces

Other Thoughts: if you're looking for a software experience go with a DS lite, if you are looking for a mulitmedia experience go with the psp however do no expect there to be a ton of stellar titles.

Rating + 3 It tries too hard

Pros: Great media support! At the time I purchased (about a year ago) most portable media players cost twice as much. Served me well over the past year, never broke, took more abuse than most people give them credit for. Beautiful display, great wifi support, awesome features + more to come from Sony.

Cons: LOADING TIMES were terrible. None of the games are designed with "play on the go" in mind. Definitely not a "gamers console". It was able to do a lot of cool things, but it wasn't particularly good at any of them. Internet browser was useless.

Other Thoughts: After owning it for over a year, I've decided to go get a Portable Media Center and a DS. The PSP was an awesome idea with visionary scope, but poorly executed and ahead of it's time, it tried to be too many things at once. Technology just isn't ready for an "All in one Games/Media/PDA system". Your much better off getting a PMC and a DS or Gameboy Micro. It also takes a base amount of technical skill to fully use it. You have to appreciate wifi/wardriving/media encoding/ and setting up directories; because nothing is done for you. This system is best in the hands of a geek. You want user friendly... get an ipod.

Rating + 5 Great portable game system

Pros: Great display. Good battery life unless playing graphics intense games. Great game library. Basically a ps2 in the palm of your hand. Memory stick pro duo is fairly cheap now. The games are regionless.

Cons: Plays back mp4 movies files only (but files are easily converted). Finger print magnet. The good games are pricey.

Other Thoughts: It doesn't sound like the last reviewer ever owned a psp or even bothered to buy games if they did. Theres so many great games out for this now. The only problem is that they're mostly imports so they get pricey.

Pros: Nice screen size, excellent graphics, extra media functions are nice.

Cons: screen has noticeable ghosting, scratches easier than you'd expect. Square button eventually wears out and stops working. useless analog nub. extremely low battery life. UMD video is a joke. the game library is abysmal.

Other Thoughts: if your just looking for a portable media player this thing has some bang for the buck, but if your looking for a fun gaming device just buy a DS lite.

Rating + 5 Best handheld out there - period

Pros: comfortable, small, fast, quiet, VERY versatile

Cons: If you want to use the PSP for what it was born to do (homebrew programs, being a computer) then you need to downgrade. Happily, it's possible for FW 2.6 and lower (I did it, it works.)

Other Thoughts: SONY really should stop their resistance to homebrewers and let us do our thing on such an amazing piece of hardware. It plays games, videos, music, surfs the internet, and does any other thing under the sun that you can fit onto it (which is pretty much everything). Oh, and SONy really should introduce a keyboard. Seriously.

Rating + 5 Definetely more to it than just games...

Pros: Amazingly clear and colorful screen, setup for wireless is straightforward, perfect for when even a laptop is too big to carry around, with additional memory can stores videos, photos or MP3/WMA song files for playback, decent (if tinny) sound from its microscopic speakers but much improved with headphones, lasts 4 to 6 hours on a charge with the supplied lithium ion battery, power switch can be locked to prevent inadvertent power up.

Cons: Text entry for emails/web browsing as well as using the joystick for moving the pointer is cumbersome, smuges/fingerprints show up easily, onboard OS will not allow more than 1 directory deep for file storage, base unit requires memory module for game save storage.

Other Thoughts: Buying movies, games, memory, and accesories for it is a major investment. With the right accesories, it can be a very useful companion, keeping you not only entertained with games, movies, and music, but also informed as well as allow you to communicate. With the right accessories, it could be just as useful as a PDA.

Pros: The online capabilities of this thing are amazing. Although only a few games use it, its still awesome. Syphon Filter Online with the headset is just like playing on Xbox Live!

Cons: Headset isnt bundled with any games so you have to get seperately.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend Syphon Filter as a must buy, as long as you can get used to the controls.

Rating + 5 Love it!

Pros: Great looking screen, best hand-held graphics on the market and UMD movies.

Cons: Due to the UMDs, large screen, and fast processor, the PSP has lower battery life than other hand-helds. The screen seems to be easy to scratch (not easy like an ipod nano, but easier than I would like).

Other Thoughts: I absolutely love my PSP! It's great if you have a wireless network (they just released the 1st downloadable game demo and you can download it with your PSP browser).

I recommend the Logitec case to protect your PSP (it's nearly indestructable and it makes me worry about my PSP way less).

Cons: Glare, Screen and front surface gets fingerprint smudges easly. Could use a better battery.

Pros: Same great system as original release just no extras

Cons: Because you get no extras, you can't save any game progress out the box with this setup - No memory card included! Because you get no extras, you get to listen to cr@ppy sound from the system until you connect some kind of earphones.

Other Thoughts: Choose wisely. While you will save money with this setup you will end up adding $$$ to be able to enjoy it.

Pros: Excellent graphics (Between PS2-PS1) Unbelievable movie quality and MP4 video quality, tons of features such as RSS, Universal TV, Internet etc. And the best selection of games out of any of the portable consoles out today.

Cons: Glare is terrible when playing during daytime. Sound could be higher. Sometimes hard to hold after long periods of time.
