Rating + 5 Great system, best on the market, but they are all good

Pros: Clean interface, great customer service, free online play, dedicated servers when playing online (360 does not have them), blu-ray!, great exclusive games, amazing graphics, huge processing power, remote play sync, great indie psn games, upcoming services like Home, stable hardware, LINUX!, easily upgradeable harddrive, ability to use your choice in hardware (headsets, hdd, etc), internet browser, bluetooth, charge kit for controllers is included (and is simply a usb cord), hdmi 1.3, runs quiet, matches most contemporary decor, looks amazing on any HD tv.

Cons: Attracts dust and fingerprints, smaller library of games (although this is changing rapidly), Sony tends to delay things...alot, b/c is iffy at best (although in my experience with the 360, neither system has perfected it), horrible EA ports of multiplatform games.

Other Thoughts: It must be said that the bluray drive is 2x speed, but it should be noted that the bluray laser takes in much more information than a dvd laser. Xbox360 has an 8x (or is it 12?) dvd drive, but the bluray can take in the same amount of info, so fanboys on either side should not include this as an argument (see clv vs cav). As technology grows even better, I believe that the ps3 will reign supreme over the 360, simply because the hardware is much, much more powerful and stable. 50gb as composed to <8gb is one of the main arguments for this. Developers must compress games up to 50% on the xbox360, which in the end is cheating the consumer. I have had extensive experience with both systems, and I truly believe that the ps3 is the better system, but the 360 is great too. Before buying either system, you should do your research and choose the one best for you. Both systems are marketed at different audiences, so you should take that into account. psn: remo451

Rating + 5 does what I bought it for... to entertain

Pros: This system has done exactly what I bought it for...to entertain myself. Looks absolutly stunning on an HDTV (if you don't have one your robbing yourself). I look back to some of the older systems, that I still love and play, but I just feel like some how the graphics and gameplay on those systems got worse when this system came out. True it has a very high price range, however I think it is justified with the extras it comes with. Everybody knows the difference between the 360 and ps3. I'm not gonna bag on the 360 because it doesn't come with such and such a device or explodes and causes mass destruction like some people claim. The 360 is a good system however it has some problems, just like the ps3, and it has many pros, just like the ps3. However in my opinion(keyword) it is better then the 360 because of the following: Comes with an HD-player, I like the User Interface it is simple and clean, and to be quite honest I like this system because it does what I want it to do.

Cons: There are quite a few cons for this system, but I don't belive that lowers may rating in anyway. For all of you who think this system is the perfect system and there are no flaws and that the 360 or any other system for that matter is under this one, your just being prejudice. This system has flaws. Every system has flaws. First off there are not nearly enough games for this system, yet. Second it gets hot. However this only becomes a problem when you put the system in an enclosed area. Give it enough room to breath and it is fine. I've run mine for more the 24 hours without a problem. Thrid, Lets face it the online just sucks. Also the controllers are too small (XBox's are better). Probably the con that bothers me the most is that you can't listen to music and do other things at the same time. I mean come on who really plays a song and just sits there and watches the ambience. I can't just put music on and go do something else, I won't be able to hear it.

Other Thoughts: I believe that this system has not reached it's full potential and that better things are yet to come. If you are looking for a system that will entertain you, play bluerays, and an assortment of other small features (home videos, music, pictures, etc.) then this is the system for you. It has a line of great games coming out(resistece2, motorstorm2, haze, soul caliber IV, the force unleashed, and more), and came entertain you for hours.

Rating + 5 Best console, despite whatever people say

Pros: awsome quality (unlike the 360) reliable hardware, easy learning curve for the XMB, VERY strong future software lineup, Dualshock is BACK!!! Free online support (which is how it should be MS, hint, hint) Reasonable price for the features packed in, firmware upgradable which leads to longer lifecycle.

Cons: Why did it take almost 2 years for the games to come out? well i guess it happens to every system.

Other Thoughts: look at the wii. and somehow it still sells. i just got done with my SIXTH 360, and im never buying one again. sorry but it was just too much headache, by the time it was all said and done, i couldve been through 3 different games on the PS3! if you think about it, whichever system you get, you get one heck of a deal.

Rating + 3 Dissapointing

Pros: Blu-ray is good, the media card slots are a godsend with the ability to play all my avi files. has some fun games and does have motion. Free game motorsotom. solid

Cons: Blu ray means slower loading times. not many good games. controler is like a decade outdated and not ergnomic at all. Collects dust better than any rag i have tried. motion feals really tacked on.

Other Thoughts: i just feel so dissipointed with this its like they didnt really try. i do have a 360 and a wii, i did get them first even when my 360 broke i didnt pl ps3 as much i use it to watch movies on my HDTV tho and it does that really well. still i do enjoy it every once in a while psn id: gliff159

Rating + 4 Old Stock

Pros: Great system, best ever made.

Cons: The unit I purchased had a manufacture date of March 07, not sure where they are getting these from as no other retailer has them anymore. Unit's manufactured after nov 07 should have the 65nm cpu and possibly the 65nm GPU.

Other Thoughts: This unit still uses the 90nm CPU and hence is much louder than the 40gb version. The 40gb is so silent it's amazing. I think I was spoiled by the 40gb and could not tolerate the extra fan noise generated by this unit.
If you don't mind the extra fan noise this unit makes it's still a great buy, includes 4 USB ports and media care readers.

Rating + 5 Great System

Pros: The built-in Blu-Ray profile 2.0 support, 1080p resolution support, and HDMI output make this system a must if you like movies and have a high-def TV. The blu-ray also gives programers more space to work with with future games. The sytem is very powerful and has a ton of gaming potential. It also works great for media center capabilities. Playing on-line with the PS3 doesn't require a subscription service.

Cons: At the moment there aren't that many really good games for the system, although there seem to be some very promising ones on the horizon. Sony's on-line content store is pretty clunky and needs to be redesigned.

Other Thoughts: I really think that with Blu-Ray having won the high-def market, and Sony's track record for great support, that this system is the system to buy if you are looking for a high end gaming system.

Rating + 5 So much left unsaid

Pros: Blue ray, WIFI, SD card reader, bluetooth just for starters. HDD can be formated and Ubuntu Feisty Fawn (7.04)can be loaded allowing it to serve as both a gaming console and a sylish desktop computer. Also updates are just a click away using the internet. So many options you just need to find someone who has one and sit down and play with all the features..

Cons: For the money this thing should have come with all applicable cables and an extra controller! Didn't even come with an HDMI cable I was just a little upset when I saw that.

Other Thoughts: Sony needs to work on their advertising, "Plays well with PSP". Who cares about the PSP this thing has so many features that no one is talking about. You just have to get your hands on one for yourself to understand.

Rating + 5 I Own Them All

Pros: This system is by far the greatest of the three "next-gen" systems. It not only has a kick-a lineup of games (out now and coming out this year) but it offers Bluray support and full 1080p HD video output. I love having all of my media in one spot, I have tons of music and movies on this thing and I still have 25GB left (I own the 60GB version, which is best in my opinion). This thing never overheats and the noise level is relatively low compared to my XBox 360. I also love the customizability of the system, being able to put Linux on there is just awesome.

Cons: I would have to say that the six axis controls in games doesn't really work as well as it should, seems a little gimmicky. Some games it works flawlessly (Warhawk) and others not so much (Lair).

Other Thoughts: I have had this thing since it came out (I own the 60GB version) and I also own the Wii and 360. Out of the three this gets the most playtime with games, movies, and everything else.

If you buy one you HAVE to buy Warhawk, Resistance, Call of Duty 4, and Rainbow Six Vegas 2.

My PSN i.d. is: eosmera

Rating + 5 great system!

Pros: This is simply an amazing system. The graphics and speed are unbelievable, and the overall utility and quality of the machine is great. Upscales normal DVDs to near Blue-ray quality (yes, I have some BR movies too). In about a month of ownership, I have had only one lock-up and only noticed framerate issues a couple times, and never for an extended period of time. Free online access!

Cons: Plastation Network is a little clunky, but works. The breadth of games isn't great, but the ones that are available, especially new ones (COD4, Burnout Paradise) are fantastic. Backwards compatibility was reduced slightly to reduce costs, so don't rely on being able to play ALL your old games (although there's a good chance you can). Not many great multiplayer (split screen) games.

Other Thoughts: I love my PS3! To truly appreciate this machine, it MUST be paired with a HDTV. Then, it's nothing short of AMAZING!! Otherwise, it seems like a glorified PS2. Before purchasing my PS3, I looked extensively into all three systems (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii). I was almost sold on Xbox, until I saw everything included in the PS3 (wireless enet, blue ray, bluetooth, free online access, more media/usb ports, upscaling dvds, etc). It truly is a complete multimedia platform. Some college kids do homework on them!! Halo is the only advantage Xbox has (other than more current games), as a great multiplayer FPS. PS3 needs a Halo-competitor.

Rating + 1 I'd give it a zero if I could.

Pros: 80GB hard drive is a nice touch, as is the limited backward compatibility with PS2 games.

Cons: In under 20 days the Blu-Ray disc drive simply stopped recognizing any media. I followed the recommendations that Sony provided, and was met with no success.
Also, it would seem that the system somehow damaged the MadCatz wired controller that I purchased, as it stopped working shortly before the disc drive did and will not function with the 40GB system I was stuck with as a replacement (as the merchant no longer carried the 80GB system, Sony is phasing them out and off of the market).

Other Thoughts: Personally I feel that Sony dropped the ball here just like they did with the original PlayStation. I recall numerous friends and acquaintances being forced to replace their PS systems due to some manner of defect in the power supply.

Rating + 4 Potential

Pros: The PS3 is all potential right now. The developers for PS3 games need Sony to continue to make improvements in unlocking the hardware. The games right now look good but will get better in time. Sony is overhauling the online service. Sony is also trying to make the Cell processor easier to utilize.

Cons: I'll admit the 360 is the best system right now. Thats why I say the PS3 is all potential. Sony's online service is lacking compared to Live. If your looking for a system to blow your mind right now the 360 or Wii is your best bet. The PS3 is being hindered by the vast amount of brand new technology

Other Thoughts: The Cell processor is where the PS3 will gain its ground. The problem is the processor hasn't been unlocked yet. The games for PS3 are only going to get better. Sony released the PS3 knowing it was going to be hard for developers to make games for it.

Rating + 3 Needs work

Pros: A few decent exclusives (Uncharted, Resistance, Ratchet + Clank, Motorstorm). Can play Blu-Ray movies. Good media capabilities, upgradeable hard drive. Plays PS2/PS1 games. Built-in web browser.

Cons: Odd texture filtering causes weird patterning in most games, generally lower quality visuals than 360 versions of same games, Online offering is less cohesive than XBL, generally expensive compared to competition, can't read iPods as well as 360, no component video up conversion of DVDs, all HDMI is HDCP'd, even games/menu. No rumble in SIXAXIS controller, no auto-standby in SIXAXIS controller. Cannot play many XviD files.

Other Thoughts: It's hard to justify this as a five-hundred dollar purchase. Let the game library flesh out a bit, the next-gen disc war (really) end, put the DualShock3 in my hands and drop $150 off and I'd be happy with my purchase.

Rating + 5 Superior Gaming

Pros: Bought one at launch and have yet to have any problems with the machine. The survival rate of the product is extremely high and the machine itself is amazing. The built in blu-ray player is an amazing feature. And the fact that the PS3 with its blu-ray cost less than most stand alone blu ray players is another reason to pick one up. I would recommend this to anyone. The game libray is growing but there are already several A-Class game titles to choose from that will keep one busy for quite some time.

Cons: Playstation Network still needs some tweaking to catch up to what Live offers. But hey, its free how much complaining can one do.

Pros: Blu-ray is booming recently, main reason we chose this over other consoles. Also, wanted something to go well with our new 1080p LCD. DVD movies, video files, games, etc all work well and look great.

Cons: Still a poor selection of games, especially RPGs and co-op titles. MotorStorm is fun to play but lacks the basics.

Other Thoughts: A true multimedia monster. Hopefully more games will come. Make sure to get a HDMI cable...from Newegg as well.

Rating + 5 Best all in 1 machine since the PC

Pros: Everything. Its is reliable. It has a built in Blu-Ray drive and since it also has Ethernet and a HDD, it will be compliant with any BR profile. 1.0 1.1 2.0.
Its a DNLA media server/hub so you can access all the music and movies on your network and play them on your HD setup.
It rips CDs, upscales DVDs, plays PS1 and PS2 games, supports Keyboard and mouse, has a web browser, free online, easily upgradeable 2.5" hard drive, slices, dices, and just about any other think of.

Most importantly are the game. Its launch lineup sucked aside from resistance. Now its a different story thou. I have Oblivion, Uncharted, Assassins Creed, The Orange Box, COD4, Skate, Unreal III, NFS Prostreet, GH III, and a bunch of Downloadable games.
The lineup of games for the PS3 in 08 is great. GTA4, Metal Gear 4, FF13, DMC4, Little big planet, Grand Turismo 5, and many more.

Cons: Because of some legal issues, they couldn't use rumble controllers when they launched the system and they won't be available till spring of 08.
Nothing else I could think of.

Other Thoughts: Its the best single piece of hardware I have ever purchased and worth every penny is you have an HD setup.

If you have a PSP; you can access all of the media on your home network anywhere there is WiFi Via remote play.

Rating + 3 The worse system release in years.

Pros: Most powerful system. (2-4x slower than average gaming computer, plus no graphics options)

Cons: Blu-Ray. This thing is slow. Unlike DVD which now spin 40x easily this thing is primitive slow! Long loads. Higher price. Boycott HD-DVD BLu-Ray. You can easily put HD on to a DVD, but they are trying to make expensive proprietary connectors that one day will only allow you to play a game at your house, or with code keys. Forget the days of sharing games. You are being duped, and most of you are to foolish, and apathetic to notice.

Other Thoughts: Metalstorm sucks. Don't buy this for controller motion. If you like Blu-Ray it could be a good deal, but this is first generation, and the player will be obsolete in 2 years.

Rating + 5 A fantastic buy for the whole family!

Pros: Sony really hit it great with the PlayStation 3. There is so much about this beast that makes it shine. First of all, it looks great. Sleek, futuristic design. That fits, because it IS the future! Built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a Blu-Ray player. Wireless controllers use Li-Ion batteries meaning you never need to change your batteries; just charge them! Great online network for keeping track of friends and online gaming while having a store to download demos, videos, and other content directly to your system. Media-server capable, and plays amazing games in true 1080p high-def! What's not to love?

Cons: Finger-prints galore. Can scratch easily if not treated properly. Will overheat fast if not given room to breathe, but the system shuts down automatically before any damage can be done. The store could use a new look, and more movie formats would be nice. Sony doesn't like any Windows formats. However WMA and DivX have just been unlocked for use on the system. Very heavy system (About 12-15lbs.) and sucks a lot of juice from your outlet (uses the same power cable as a PC does!). Highly recommend a surge protector!

Other Thoughts: This is a great system to buy. In my opinion, loads better than Microsoft's XBox 360. Plus, the online service is totally free! Even if the price of the system is high to start, think of how much it is for the 360 to come with just the system then with all the addons. Way more than the PlayStation 3, that's for sure.

Rating + 5 Must Buy!!

Pros: Very Very great unit! I was a Huge Xbox fan but I decided I wanted to get into the "New" age (Blu-Ray, Blue Tooth Ext.) And WOW! Thank Goodness I didnt get a X...Thing...
The Controler is by far the coolest thing other then the pic quality. Lair is a fun game that takes full advantage to the SIXAXIS, you can use it like a Stearing Wheel on Motostorm. 1st Person Shooters, you can use USB keyboards and mice! great because nothing beats Mice in precission on a 1PS! all my PS2 games work just fine, the Upscaling on both DVDs and PS2 are clearly seen unless your blind! Even on the stock AUX cables.

Cons: Realy... Nothing, but it does tend to get rather warm over time so get the cooler for it and boom! No more hot PS3 ;) (People) Games will Come!!! Not a reason to give it 4 eggs...

Other Thoughts: Overall this thing smokes over Xbox's, No Red Ring of Death, no need to spend the other C Note to get the HDDVD Player. Blu-Ray bult in! Blue Tooth, WiFi, Free Online Play, the list goes on and on. oh yeah, I use my phones Blue tooth head set to talk over the Net gameing!! Get this system!! you wont be dissapointed! The PS3 is Sexy looking too! although the sexy black serfice is a magnet for Fingerprints and Dust. But a soft cloth fixes that.

Rating + 5 PS3 > XBOX 360. that is all

Pros: Blu-Ray player/up-convert DVD, Surviveability, The build quality is excellent. REMOTE PLAY (if you own a PSP) Listen and view your PS3 content from anywhere you may be with your PSP via internet connection. Oh and it plays games too!

Cons: Game library....
That will change. More will be available soon; this ship won't sink!

Other Thoughts: I am in now way considered wealthy, but I will say that the XBox 360 price-point is more in-line with individuals and families... BUT, this is a big But here, As a former Xbox owner I can say that PS3 is an investment. Xbox 360 is a quick fix. If you are considering a next-gen system for you or your family, go with the PS3. I'm happy with it and its pretty looking too!

Rating + 5 Almost there...

Pros: Blu-ray, 1080p, ethernet port AND a built-in wireless adapter (PS3 is the only system of this generation to include both), massively powerful, looking forward to Home, some incredible games on the way.

Cons: Incredible games STILL aren't here yet. The PS3 has improved a great deal, the network is running smoother and the ps3 store and the interface have been improved, but this is a game system, and the games simply aren't there to really support the system yet. Waiting for MGS4 and FFXIII, among others, to make the PS3 a gaming necessity.

Other Thoughts: For only fifty bucks more, the PS3 is a much better deal than the elite 360 if you consider the features you're paying for. Microsoft forces you to buy expensive add-ons for features that are included with the PS3 from the start. Once you add in the price of a wireless adapter and hd-dvd player for your 360, and don't forget to get a usb hub if you want to play multiplayer games, the price difference is ridiculous.

Pros: Ample storage, familiar controls, good media center software, a growing online store, and very pretty both in terms of hardware and software

Cons: Pack-in game (MotorStorm) is online-multiplayer only (meaning each player needs their own PS3), lack of Component or HDMI cable in-box is annoying

Other Thoughts: There are some small software flaws that can be improved on--and I have faith that they will be fixed with time. Overall the PS3 makes a great Blu-Ray player, a great upscaling DVD player, a good Linux box, and a great game console with a lot more potential in the long-run than the 360.

Pros: Excellent Blu-Ray, up convert DVD, superior build quality and graphics, quiet, looks fantastic, blue tooth, small size, doesn't overheat, support folding at home for cancer research, Playstation online game network is free UNLIKE XBOX. Not a Microsoft product.

Cons: Game choice is limited, but this is changing and actually PS3 has better games coming out in 2008, Killzone 2, Haze, Gran Turizmo, etc. Japan hate Microsoft so don't expect them to develop for the system they despise.

Other Thoughts: XBOX breaks all the time and if you add up the features the PS3 has the PS3 is WAY WAY cheaper. Drop proprietary, go BlueTooth. I have a BT keyboard and Mouse. I didn't have to buy a special XBOX brand to do it.

Pros: Standard integrated WiFi, Blu-ray, 4 USB ports, keyboard/mouse support, Bluetooth, printer support, standard web browser, FREE online gamplay and access to demos, Backwards compatibility with 1st and 2nd gen. games, Amazing graphics, ease of use, standard FREE Trend Micro Pc-Cillin web security

Cons: Laughable warranty. All console manufacturers are guilty here. If you believe in your product, then stand behind it!!

Other Thoughts: The list of pros above exist as standard with this unit. Many of the others are exclusives. I added up all the accessories (from Sony's rival) that would be necessary to purchase with just what you have as a standard and came up with with a price greater than $1000. That should be a deal breaker for the indecisive. Having been a 360 owner twice over, I say unreservedly that this the superior platform.

Pros: Hardware is well designed. Aethetically matches my entertainment center. Quiet. Comes with blu-ray player, wifi. Controllers are light-weight and ergonomic. Works with my bluetooth headset.

Cons: Game selection is very scarce (biggest con). Must exit out of game for navigating through XMB (minor issue to me).

Other Thoughts: Great console in terms of hardware. Game console + Blu-ray player in one. The biggest drawback is the poor game selection for it. Hoping for more games to be released in the future.

Rating + 4 Great system, fantastic BD player

Pros: Cell BE microprocessor (i.e., lots of potential), reasonably priced Blu-ray Player. Free online play. Many PS2 games backwards compatible (not true for 40GB model).

Cons: Primary game titles still behind the Xbox. Software backwards compatibily (latest system patch removed BC for Gran Turismo 4). DualShock 3 controllers won't be out in US until 2008.

Other Thoughts: Gran Turismo 5 and Metal Gear Solid 4 (as well as Metal Gear Online) are reason enough for me to have a PlayStation 3. Until then, Call of Duty 4 and FIFA Soccer '08 will tie me over. By mid-year next year, 80GB PlayStation 3 will deserve a 5 rating.

Rating + 4 Polished product

Pros: Well built machine. Other consoles I own are a little flimsy and don't feel as well put together. This thing is solid.

Reliability. So far so good. No problems with mine and the forums I track aren't having many issues.

Multimedia capabilities. Love its ability to act as a media client as well as its ability to handle so many different audio formats.

I wasn't an audiophile but this thing may turn me into one.

Blu-Ray is integrated. Very nice. Again, well designed, no add-ons.

Wireless connection integrated.

Best of all for me is the 1GB wired connection. This is probably my favorite sleeper feature. Really takes streaming media to the next level for me.

Online is free. As it should be.

I found the XMB to be more intuitive to navigate. There are some downsides though. See below.

HDMI was integrated from the start.

Cons: 1) They do lack some features online such as being able to access your external friends list from a game.

2) Browsing is...blah. Granted I have a laptoop, but the times I have used the PS3 it hasn't exactly kept me coming back for more.

3) The XMB could become cluttered without better content management. Need to have folders and be able to add metadata tags.

4) No IR integration, they only use Blu-Ray. If you have a universal remote control you have to buy a dongle to get it to work with your PS3.

Other Thoughts: This is my console of choice. Build quality and having technology to get me deep (7+ years)into the future are key for me. From the moment I took it out of the box it struck me as a well built machine.

With the exception of the IR problem, all of my Cons and the majority of reasonable reviewers Cons can be fixed by software modifications.

Can't say the same for other consoles problems.

Rating + 5 An Objective Review

Pros: There are only 2 choices for HD console gaming. PS3 and XB360 and heres why PS3 beats it. I've been playing them at a friend's house for months before I decided on this purchase.

1.Doesn't get Red rings of death like every Xbox will in its lifetime
2.Online is free
3.HDD is NOT an expensive propritary drive like the competition.
4.HD format player out of the box
5.5 free blu ray movies offer with purchase
6.XMB is far easier to use and navigate then XB dashboard.
7.You can install Linux
8.Better Backwards compadibility
9.Online offers same features as XBL

Cons: Heavy price but certainly a better investment over an XB360. There is a $400 model for those who do not care about backward comp. I cannot think of cons

Other Thoughts: Worth every cent I paid. Look at the competition. $450 for the elite model + $180 for HD DVD player + $50/year

That adds up to beyond $680+ dollars. Not to mention once again that the XB360 is known to have major hardware issues that cause the product to overheat.

Blu ray has been proving itself superior over HD DVD.

XB dashboard is a major pain in the ***. Takes up time to have friends log in locally. Log in, log out, this feature doesn't want to work. The XB dashboard is cluttered with advertisments and menus flow like a pentagram with gaps.

Am I the only person who likes a CLEAN UI? Free online service? Reliable hardware?

I suppose the only people who bought an xbox LOVE Halo (which isn't anything special and below my FPS standards) or just simply don't know any better. Look at how many whiney 8 year old boys talk over XBL. There should be a feature to mute everyone whos b4lls haven't droped yet, then it'll be more tolerable.

Rating + 2 Lags in many games, and lighting is horrible

Pros: Plays blu-ray. Blu-ray playback is flawless and has none of the issues described in the cons below.

Cons: When playing SKATE, Sonic and others the lag is unbelievable. When playing Tony Hawk's Project 8 lag is also bad. Often freezes while playing Tony Hawk in two player mode, and lag is too unbearable anyways. Lighting in all games is horrible. Bright colors and whites often seem to glow unnaturally, or even look reflective or distorted taking away from the reality of games.

Other Thoughts: I exchanged the ps3 twice, and brought it to friends house to verify that it wasn't my LCD TV or a defective PS3. I also ordered a fan cooler for the front and back of the ps3 to ensure overheating wasn't an issue, they didn't help at all. Games are having be stripped down in order to perform on the PS3(so they don't lag as much) as opposed to the XBOX 360. READ UP ON THE LAG AND LOW QUALITY GRAPHICS COMPARED TO THE XBOX 360 ISSUES BEFORE BUYING THIS! If i hadn't bought a bunch of games and accessories for my ps3 already, I would return it. What a horrible let down this has been by Sony. At least it plays blu-ray :-\.

Rating + 1 Wow This Systems Blows Harder then President Bush's Adminstration

Pros: Wow there are no pro's that i can think of really. When Sony had had the 60 Gig Model Which i Had there was the Emotion Engine. So Awesome you knoow why you could actually play PS1 games and PS2 games that were up scled so the had better resolution and what not. However i gave that to my brother who went off to college and i have bought the 80 gig model and i am thouragly disatisfied with this product i am so disasitified that i am now and avid xbox 360 owner and now that i realize it the PS3 always blew harder then President Bush and his cabinets policies on the war. The only other pro is good graphics but that is not wht sells me on a system gameplsy and games and that is lacking

Cons: Everthing is a con aside form what i just said. Hardly any good games out at all i dont understand why people rave so much about this system with all it has going for it is the Fatc that its graphics are the best of all three current systems. Even some of the Largest 3rd party developers have complained that it is diffacult to develop for this system.

Other Thoughts: DO NOT BUY THIS DEBACHARY OF A SYSTEM THAT SONY CALLS A A VIDEO GAME CONSOLE IT WILL PROBABLY BE THE BEST DECISION YOU EVER MADE ASIDE FROM MUSTERING UP THE COURAGE TO FNALLY ASK A GIRL OUT IF YOU HAEV THAT PROBLEM LIKE I DID FOR THE LONGEST WHILE. IF NOT THEN THIS IS THE BEST DECISION YU COULD MAKE BY NOT BUYING THIS SYTEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cons: Where is the flicking that some fools are talking about? I never had any issues

Other Thoughts: They need more games, but SERIOUSLY speaking, Look at other systems, Xbox360 ? Halo, GoW, and what else ? PGR? come on. Wii? WOW WHAT A JOKE, they dont have ANYTHING. Mario, Mario, and more Mario. Is that all they got? repetitive game play. nothing new. People said PS3 is overhyped. to me, Wii is the MOST overhyped piece of junk ever existed.

Rating + 5 Fanastic Media Machine

Pros: Amazing machine. Plays the PS3, PS2, and PS1 games. I can control it with my PSP, and can control the PSP with the PS3! I bought a Maxtor Network Drive, loaded my CDs onto it using iTunes through my MacBook Pro, told the PS3 to search for a Media Server, AND ALL OF MY MUSIC APPEARED! TITLES AND ALL! AND IT'S PLAYING MY MUSIC LIBRARY THROUGH MY HOME NETWORK on the PS3 SPEAKER SYSTEM! Oh, by the way, Home Theater Magazine named the PS3 their Product of the Year for 2007.

Cons: Surfing the web is a little weird, even using a USB keyboard and mouse. The unit gets VERY hot, so I stand it on it's end, and use an Intercooler Fan Assembly. Memory Stick PRO DUO cards don't fit the MS slot really well, so I put them into an adapter for a full size Memory Stick and it works perfectly.

Other Thoughts: It plays CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray DVDs, PS1, 2, and 3 games, talks to the PSP, goes on-line, finds a media server with no sweat, 1080p output (depending on the source), and...oh yeah.....the manual tells you how to change the hard drive! I got a 160 gig notebook drive from NewEgg, slipped out the old, slid in the new, and PRESTO! A 160 GB Playstation 3! But you DO lose your downloads and any other stuff when you change it out (not the firmware updates), so BACKUP before you do this. (You don't even have to crack open the PS3 to change the drive....there's a slot on the side for this. WHAT GREAT THINKING!)

Pros: This console is awesome, especially on my 32" 1080i Olevia. I purchased COD:Modern Warfare and Assasins Creed at the same time I purchased the ps3. Lets just say I havn't even touched Creed yet becase COD is blowing me away with the graphics and gameplay.

Cons: I ordered 3 days before turkey day and expected to get it the day before but did not receive it till the following monday. Not a big deal, I have it now.

Other Thoughts: If you want awesome gameplay and the best console out there the ps3 is the way to go.

Pros: Excellent blu-ray player for movies and games. I play them on 1080p JVC
70" projection tv.

Cons: Sony has menu flicker issues when viewing the menu for all other PS3 functions with 1080p. No problems playing games and movies with 1080p but try to switch to the menu and I get a severe case of flickering. The menu is none usable in 1080p mode. I can view the menu only if I reset the resolution to a lower setting. Doing a search on the internet revels that others are having the same problem. I have installed the latest firmware updates.

Pros: This system is technically superior to its competitors.

Basically if you don't like gaming you should buy a wii. If you are a jock and cant determine how to network computers for good FPS games buy an Xbox 360.

For the rest of us PS3 is the only choice.

Cons: The system still struggles because it only has a handful of "great" games. This is a simple function of the 360 having been around for a year longer.

Other Thoughts: The PS3 games will come but its very doubtful the 360 hardware and philosophy will hurt Micro$oft.

Pros: Great console, great performance, great value.

Cons: Lack of games as of yet. But more games will be available as studios realize the popularity of the PS3

Other Thoughts: Anyone who doesn't have a high-definition disk player should strongly consider buying a PS3. It has a great built in Blue-Ray DVD player - and is also a top of the line game console for the same price as a stand-alone Blue-Ray DVD player.

Rating + 5 What can I say?

Pros: If anyone remembers Sony still has the largest game developers backing them. And being a fortune 500 company worth over 70 billion dollars they can afford the losses they made by making this as cheap as they did. Look at the specs, PS3 has more RAM, faster processor, and will be coming out with a 120 GB system I believe that already hit Europe. Can't wait for Resident Evil 5, or maybe a sequel to G-d of War, and I'll take this online play over paying Microsoft 100 dollars a year, I get to play other people just the same.

Cons: Don't worry people developers will start making blu-ray compatible games, and then 360 and Wii will fall behind like they did against PS2. Sony lost money by making the PS3 as cheap as they did, a blu-ray player is far more expensive than 400 dollars, they did us a favor.

Other Thoughts: I own the big 3. (Guitar Hero 3 is a must have which I play on Wii) and with the games coming in for PS3, PS3 will rise to the top. Rainbow 6 is fun on 360. But play it on PS3 and it's a different experience, same thing with Call of Duty 4. Having a Sony Bravo HDTV doesn't hurt either. But if you want instant satisfaction get your Wii or 360, you want an investment get they Sony.

Pros: Overall I'm impressed with the PS3. Graphics are outstanding and almost unrivaled.

Cons: Cost...achilles heel.Amount of high quality "exclusive" games...still waiting and they are still delaying. Online play...just ok

Other Thoughts: The PS3 was hyped up rightfully so but, it hasn't to me personally lived up to the hype outside of technical specs. Anyway everyone has a different opinion so it's a good thing there are other options out there. I was impressed but not blown away. I spent some money now I want more exclusive games.

Rating + 5 Not enough unbias people

Pros: The Blu-ray player is awesome, though at the moment its pretty much on par with hd-dvd the new audio formats they are using for the new movie releases are completely losses which is great for that True theater sound. The 1080p picture looks amazing on my 46" sony xbr3 which if you have the money to spend i would highly recomend that tv. Now for gaming, people have complaind that it isnt any better then the 360, well right now since it is still a very new data system programmers are still learning how to milk the system but it works very well i have had no problems with the 9 titles i currently own.(Heavenly sword, Rainbow 6: vegas, splinter cell, enchanted arms, Tiger woods 07, Ninja Giaden Sigma, The darkness, Resistance Fall of man, GRAW2, and lastly and most disapointed on any console would be NFS:Carbon) Minus Carbon all of these games play and look great on the ps3 and the six axis controls add a great touch to what would be just typical play for a 360.

Cons: The price did suck, i bought the 2 year extended warranty at Best Buy and one game and another controller and spent 876 bucks or something like that. The fact that all the awesome games will not be out for some time now while teh titles out now are good my games that i bought this sucka for are still in Development but the games im waiting are guananteed to be mind blowing. Has froze 3 times in the 1 year as of this november! which is to many for me.

Other Thoughts: This should not be compared to a highend computer just look at the size of the ps3 compared to a comptuer that can run an 8800 card and a quad core cpu and 8 gigs of ram. I will say myself though i would gladly pay for an upgard in ram and even cell speed if it ever came out just so my wait time will be even shorter. And the main reason i got this system was because i have 12 friends who all got the 360 when it came out and all of them have had at the very least 1 new 360 if not 2 since then because of the red rings of doom. and you dont have to spend another 200 or 300 dollars on stuff to make it have the same video and wireless features the ps3 comes with standard. just cheaper if you look at the hole picture and the xbox live hsould be better since you spend around 70 dollars a year on it. Sorry i couldnt be more specific the amount you can put into this is limited so im sorry if some of this was choppy.

Pros: Excellent system. This is practically an all in one multimedia and gaming platform. I seriously dont even use my computer anymore. This thing does it all.

Cons: The price of course is a little steep; however, considering the hardware that comes standard in it, it's a deal. Also, there are not a lot of great games available right now, but with a little patience, this system will be the front runner in console-gaming as soon as they release their big titles.

Rating + 4 PS3 really is a good buy

Pros: So far, the system has been fantastic. Easy to hook up to local network and transfer files from PC. Lots of free demos in Playstation online store. Built in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Slick interface (I personally like it better the the 360 dashboard)and works with my PSP.

Cons: Price is outrageous in my opinion. Fingerprint magnet. Games are $60. Only Nintendo remembers its about the games and gamers first. Xbox live WAY better that Sony's offering.

Other Thoughts: When comparing just hardware with the 360 remember the while a 20 gig 360 is $350, wireless is $90 extra and next gen dvd player is $180 extra. That alone is $620. All of that is included with PS3, plus bluetooth, a bigger hard drive, better HDMI. It's a good buy long term. 360 has better games for now though.

Rating + 5 PS3 from an old 360 User

Pros: Seems like good solid hardware. Excellent graphics. Updates and demos are available online, free online multiplayer, even has a web browser. Blu Ray drive, if you're into that. The motion sensor in the controller adds some interesting twists to games.

Cons: Expensive. Game library is not as big as the 360, but a LOT of games are out for both platforms, including all of the ones I was interested in. The text in the online store and when surfing the web is extremely tiny and hard to read, even on my 42" HDTV and with the character size set to +2.

Other Thoughts: Overall, the PS3 is basically the same as a 360. The graphics are slightly better, the games library is slightly smaller, the controller doesn't feel as natural in your hand. But my 360 failed on me 3 times and I have had enough. This system works and that is what I really want out of the hardware.

Rating + 3 PS3 60 by the wayside, BlueRay wears out fast..

Pros: Clear picture, excellent menu system for media of all types. Easy to plug in a keyboard and mouse, if needed.

Cons: My bluray drive went out after just a couple months. That was awful, I went thru withdrawl! Sony was fast to replace it, but the new controller is a bit more worn out that I'd like.

Other Thoughts: If you want to use as a media player, you have to rip them to a specific format (h.264 codec, ac3 audio) which is a royal pain, such that you are not going to be doing alot of that for video files. This is probably intentional, but it would be nice if they'd allow for divx and xvid (heavenly that'd be).

I think they could of at least designed a new controller, cause the 360 controller has a way better touch, feel to it, especially for First person shooters. If you are debating which system to get, the 360 is better.

Pros: Great technology

Cons: Unfortunately Sony decided to waste it on a PS3 instead of something greater that more people can utilize rather than playing games. Bluray is no where near ready for primetime. Sony like to stick all this high tech new wave junk in a box and tell you, you need it, whats great is that all this stuff is unproven, untested, untried and unnecessary

Other Thoughts: First of all dont listen to the fanboy below me, current games only uses 3 cores out of the availible 7? It's a cell chip, essentially it's just a souped up power pc chip. Also the GPU is not on par with an 8800, the ps3 may be fairly new, but the technology behind it is quite a few years old, you're also forgetting one huge difference. 8800 DX 10, PS3 DX9. plus what good is all this cool stuff the ps3 can do if no one can make games for it, it's downfall has begun. not a hater, but open your eyes people.

Rating + 5 PEOPLE HAVING BACKWARD COMPATABILITY ISSUES - PLEASE READ

Pros: For everyone complaining about the system not being backward compatable let me clear things up as one reviewer touched base upon. The 60gb model had built in HARDWARE to play PS1/PS2 games. Essentially it had both system "built in". The advantage of this was of course the stability to play the previous systems games.

Cons: Now for the 80gm model. Sony yanked out the hardware for the PS1/PS2 (cheaper production I assume), and replace it with SOFTWARE emulation. If you know about software emulation, it basically "creates" an environment to play the PS1/PS2 games using the hardware of the PS3.

Other Thoughts: The downfall to the SOFTWARE emulation is that it never is completely stable. There will have to be updates to it in order to make games playable with it. If you are having trouble playing a game, make sure you have the latest patch (go to the update system menu). Unfortunatly, this is something you will have to deal with. (Thankfully I got the 60gb model).

Rating + 4 Awesome game machine, poor movie player!

Pros: Plays games with excellant video quality, free internet, lots of game demos from the playstation store and the six axis controller blows xbox out of the park.

Cons: Two major cons I have found. The blu ray player doesn't come with memory in it, so if you watch a movie and don't finish it, you have to fast foward and find where you left off. This is a major inconvenience for me since I have nor the time or patience to sit through a whole movie. The 2nd fault I have found, is that you have to choose between your surround sound system speakers or your tv speakers, you can't use them both. This is a bummer for me because my tv speakers are fantastic, but not as good as the surroud system. I wish I could use them both like with all my other dvd players.

Other Thoughts: I use my ps3 with my 1080i tv, picture is great, but wish I had a 1080p lcd instead.

Cons: The Price.

Other Thoughts: Everyone thinks you can't play PS2/PS1 games without the Emotion Chip, but you can, i actually own the 60gb version, but my friend has the 80 and he can play all the games i can, so anybody who says they can't, either doesn't update or can't place the CD in the drive.

Pros: Awesome potential, free internet and online game play for certain games at all that I have played so far, sleek design, Did I mentchion powerfull potential, blue tooth ready for any type of blue tooth device like a headset for your cell phone works well. One day it will put the 360 in its rightfull place (in a garbage can). An uncompareable processor to anything out there even PC'S with the most potential that you could even think about.

Cons: Heat without after market intercooler, No games yet have come close to the potentail that this massive machine can put out which really sucks, Not as wealthy as microsoft that can buy out release dates and other suck nick naks. other then that I have no REAL problems about the machine.

Other Thoughts: REMEBER people YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, read the reviews and don't pass your quick judgement on comparision of the PS3 and 360 about things suck as the price, think about and look up what the PS3 has to offer compared to its counter part like free internet and other such items add up after a while and soon before they know it the 360 costs as much as the PS3. If you were one about the future and potentail read the reviews the PS3 dominates in those the machine's power has not really flexed its strength yet for no game yet has allowed the machine to do that. Dont be quick to compare and judge read the reviews sure some games are sole to one sys and that makes some decide but use good judgement. More power=More potential

Rating + 4 Mixed feelings

Pros: Movies and games look/sound fantastic. Wireless internet - setup was no harder than connecting a laptop. Wireless game controller works great. PVR functionality on the way? Lots of additional functionality.

Cons: Expensive. Minimal documentation. No HDMI cable included. Web browser is clumsy, and doesn't support a lot of plug-ins. Issues transferring photo's from a USB key. No signal sent to the TV between some menu items - TV flashes to blue screen with No Signal! message.

Other Thoughts: Why do I need yet another set of RCA cables? Throw in an HDMI cable! Connected to the internet - hmmmm, wonder how much info SONY is collecting on my usage. Probably going to want to get a remote for the Blue Ray movies, and a keyboard - slow entering text with the joystick.

Rating + 4 Next-gen system not ready now

Pros: Next-gen system, easy to use user interface, free online gaming unlike Xbox Live

Cons: No good games/Not enough good games out

Other Thoughts: The only reason I gave PS3 only 4 stars because not enough games selection. Otherwise, it is a really good Next-gen console. I own all 3 current consoles: XBOX360, PS3 and Wii. Right now I play 360 the most because there are a lot of good games out for it. Wii, when I play Wii Sport with my wife and kids. PS3, I use it mainly for DVD/Blu-Ray Drive right now. I played Resistance Multiplayer a little bit and it seem to be a pretty good multiplayer. But I play mostly Gear Of War on 360 with my friends. I am sure when the good games come out for PS3 later, I will use it more. I like PS3 controller over 360 for shooting game.

Rating + 1 PS2 Upgraded

Pros: Its innovated PS2 I mean PS3 SixAxis and compact design, runs warm and its black It plays Blu-Ray discs!. I mean everyone has Blu-ray discs right? If you like to play PS2 games then you can do it here...mainly because the lack of games.

Oh yea NewEggs shipping is lighting fast!!

Cons: Too big, heavy , dust magnet, no games now and not even this year...Metal Gear what? SixAxis is a joke... no rumble lol. Well at least its wireless right?

Other Thoughts: Yes MotorStorm is included but I prefer not to get it when cut down its price by 60 bucks at least.

Oh yea good old reliable $0ny name!11!one!!!eleven.

360 isnt that much better I mean nearly every game can be played on a PC at a cheaper price controls set to your liking.

The Wii has yet to show what it can really offer so I don't own one...yet but I prefer my PC > DS for now...360> PSP > PS2 > PS3

Rating + 3 Great system but major drawback to this version

Pros: The PS3 has the best graphics, hands-down, of any of the current generation of consoles. It has more processing power than the Xbox 360, though both it and the Xbox 360 have similar graphical capabilities. PS3 will have a similar number of game titles by the time it is phased out.

Cons: VERY IMPORTANT: This version does NOT feature the Emotion Engine (meaning a built-in PS2 chip). This means currently Sony is developing a SOFTWARE based emulator for PS2 games on PS3, and many PS2 games do not work. The 60GB version has the Emotion Engine built-in, and thus is compatible with almost all PS2 games.

Other Thoughts: I'd go for the 60GB version and upgrade the hard drive to something much more substantial like 160GB.

Rating + 3 It is OK

Pros: Plays Blu-Ray, DVD, CDs.
Plays Full HD quality and Upscaling.

Cons: Let me get this straight, for 20 more gigs, we loss hardware backware compatibility? Ehh... I dono, There are over 4000 PS2 - 1 games out there in people's home. Not to mention one day PS2 will stop manufacturing and break down. Dosen't sound good to if only a portion of your PS2 games work.

Other Thoughts: For some reason, Some people are starting to say that the newer updates only work with this model and messes up older models. Seems Like Sony is messing with people like they did with the Music CDs back in 2003.

Pros: Great system, Blu-Ray, enjoyable innovation, sleek look

Cons: Lack of games.
Same happened with 360, though. With time, just like the 360 needed, this system will be the best on the market IMO.

Other Thoughts: <3 free online play

Rating + 2 One Problem

Pros: Looked great, and ran smooth. Only had one problem

Cons: The only problem i hae found is that the compatability list on the sony site doesn't really apply to this version of the ps3, only you get to figure this out for yourself. If you want to run a ps2 game and the disk is blue (FFXI install disc, Gauntlet: Dark legacy etc.) don't buy the 80gig version. The web site says they run but they DO NOT on the 80gig system. All you get is the very frustrating this game isn't compatable message. Took hours off and on the phone with tech support, and I ended up figuring out the problem myself.

Other Thoughts: I exchanged the 80gig for the 60gig and the above named discs ran without any problems. If you don't have blue bottom disc games for ps2 that you want to run then the 80gig is great. If you want to run FFXI on the ps3 get yourself a 60gig and save yourself the time and frustration.

Rating + 5 Best Next Gen System

Pros: Sleek and shiny. Best bang for your buck here. 100% next-gen material here. Blu-ray drive included is the real dominator. All games tested have worked no problem. Out of 28 blu-ray movies I have rented/own and played, only 1 didn't work... it was the disc problem. Games all run great, never had an issue that was the console's fault. PSN is great... FREE... and easy to use. Using Folding@Home great program to contribute to understanding and possibly finding cures for cancers and diseases! The PS3 isn't just a gaming console... it's a multimedia hub! Games, High definition video, music, photos, internet, online chat/VOIP... it's got it all! Even OS support.

Cons: If I had to put a con in for this console I would say how hard it is to keep the system free from finger prints, dirt, and dust. It's a magnet for dust... but oh so shiny when clean! Some people claim the fans get loud... if its in a very well ventilated area, it's whisper silent during any operating status.

Other Thoughts: Most people who make complaints about the console do not fully understand what they are talking about. Even the newer consoles with software emulation will play old PS1/PS2 games out of the box... just not 100%. Future firmware updates will keep raising the percentage higher and higher.
Motorstorm was NOT a release day game. It has only been out a few months now. It's a great game nontheless. The PS3 system has free blu-ray movies available when purchasing through certain retailers just as the 360 does. Just gotta look for it. Stop trying to promote 360 over the PS3, because the PS3 wins the "bang for buck" any day. Can't go wrong with this system.

Rating + 5 PSU Journalist

Pros: This console is truly great and with every firmware and store update it gets even better. All the talk about no backwards compatibility is false. The console has a similar backwards compatibility as the PAL version of the console which supports roughly 90% of all PS and PS2 games. Theres tons of AAA titles coming out for the console so what looks bleak on games has a very bright outlook.

Cons: Truly, the price, but with all the upcoming titles and updates, both store and system, they make up for the price greatly.

Rating + 5 Loving Ours

Pros: Sony has a winner on their hands with this system, it's just going to take a while to bloom. We've owned ours for a few months and have enjoyed watching Bluray movies on it, playing games like Super Stardust HD and the other game demos from the online store, and there's tons of great exclusive games coming in 2007-2008. They release updates regularly that add functionality to the system, it's online services, as well as weekly updates to the Sony Store.
This package with Motorstorm is a good deal with the bigger hard drive and one of the best release titles. Playing games and watching Bluray movies (or even DVD's) through HDMI on our HDTV with surround sound is quite an experience.

Cons: Could go for more demo's and less movie trailers in the online store, system can get loud as fans come on to cool the insides if the console is not fairly well ventilated. Needs more games as of this time. No XMB in games.

Other Thoughts: The complaints are minor and the pro's outweigh the con's for us.

Rating + 1 Stay away from this one, get the 60gb or 360 premium.

Pros: 20 more GB!
Included Game!

Cons: For the same price you could had get the xbox 360 premium combo pack with the hd dvd player and lots movies. better deal. and bigger hard drive
As far as now, if you brough this 80gb it will not work any ps2 or 1 game right away, need to wait a patch for emulation or download optional.
Do not get fool by extra 20gb, because you can install like 200 gb if you want for less than 150 in newegg. The game is not special, is been out since the ps3 launch date which is while back.
Price not worth 100 more.

Other Thoughts: Really is not recommaed get this system, unless you are a fool. Get the 60gb install extra hard drive u self and get a game separate will save u tons.

Rating + 3 this other guy neglects to mention...

Pros: this bad boy has 80 gig... woo $100 for 80 gig...

Cons: the 80 gb ps3 has software emulation for backwards compatibility with ps2 titles - the 60 gb ps3 if I recall has a ps2 chip or some other dedicated chip for backwards compatibility - something to think about
$100 for 80 gig??

Other Thoughts: that backwards compatibility thing has me thinking... I don't have any ps2 titles to test though, although there are some I might get...

Pros: everything!

the ps3 rocks.

Cons: i have yet to find anything bad about it.

Other Thoughts: motor storms is the best racing game on the ps3 current, cept for maybe full auto 2.

imo the ps3 had better graphics/what ever then the revolution (wii is the ***est name i have ever heard) and the 360.

I also own a rev and 360, though the 360 i hardly even use anymore, it takes back shelf to the ps3 and rev.

defiantly worth the buy.

Rating + 1 No Backwards compatibility

Pros: sony, blue ray player,
have not owned just read info and talked to game stores.

Cons: This version does not have the emotion engine so you will not be able to play the ps1 or ps2 games.

they are doing a software emulation like the xbox 360.

do a search on wikipedia for ps3 and read there description.

sony is not going to concentrate on backwards compatibility

Other Thoughts: i would pick up the 60gig model ASAP

Pros: Its a good system dont get me wrong but

Cons: I was an early adopter and bought the 60gig model earlier this year. Why does Microsoft and Sony screw the early adopters! I can understand it if the console was on the market for at least a year but this is ridiculous. The price drop was a bad enough sting but now this newer beefier model comes out.

Other Thoughts: I spent one hundred dollars to have this thing 7 months earlier..wow. Not to mention there were few good titles out there and now that the PS3 is coming out with some dang good titles later on in the year... Im on a rant sorry.
