I like the street battles and they had barely any of those in this game. The online still sucks and probably alwayss will suck. Sergey Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year	5/13/2009 9:36:22 PM One of the best single player games ever! Pros: This game continues the story of the first Gears of War. There is now much more action and variety of maps, enemies and bosses throughout the whole game. Each new level brings new surprises and innovative gameplay. The story itself is more developed and presented much better than in the first title. The graphics and physics engine have been heavily updated: There is no more excessive bloom effects, the maps are much bigger, there are many more enemies on the screen at the same time, the textures are sharper and the framerate does not drop throughout the whole game (that was a big issue in the first Gears). The physics are much more believable now, there are even realistically modeled bullet paths unlike the cartoony drawings in the first game. Cons: While the physics are much improved for walking characters... the tank still feels light and drives like a TYCO R/C toy!?!?! That is a shame, because otherwise the tank level is pretty fun... at least it's short. Multiplayer is pretty much useless, even more so than in the first game. Other Thoughts: I don't understand why people give this game a bad rating because of multiplayer??? This is a single player game... you can tell all effort was spent towards improving the story campaign! Besides, Epic makes one of the best multiplayer titles in history: Unreal Tournament. Tyz Tech Level: average Ownership: 1 week to 1 month	3/23/2009 4:02:14 PM Game Play Pros: The new features like Bots, Horde, and Collectables are bring different people to the Gears of War series the massive multiplayer game play is one of the best new features I would totallty advise you to get this game. Cons: If you think gears of war 2 is like the first one you mistaken... this one is way better. the campaing doesn't have as many of those waiting talks where you sit there and watch videos you interact but the best new thing is Horde and bots. The Bots in this game even though casual is to bots it's like your average gamer who has played most gun games and knows the controls, when you put the difficulty on hardcore its way harder you find yourself against Bots that can detect if your watching them or if your running from them. At hardcore they also use different stratagies. I would say to buy this game ASAP. The Textures are amazing, this game was pretty much written for HD playing. The lighting and the sound are awesome. This is a great single player game with Horde mode being another awesome game type. Cons: Multiplayer. Problably THE MOST UNBALANCED AND GLITCHIEST MULTIPLAYER GAME, EVER. Atleast 1/4 games, the host "host lags" to be cheap to lag you OUT but they stay unaffected. Everyone uses either the shotgun or boomshot, absolutely NO variety. The ranking system is practically garbage, i had a KD of 7 for practically 4 rounds and i didnt level up. Honestly, if this game was balanced, it would be a good game, but the game is so unbalanced. Other Thoughts: The game is essential still broken, after the awesome SP, there is no reason to play other than horde, and after you beat it on level 50, theres no point to it. Music by Steve Jablonski. Graphics are pretty amazing for a console game. Great sound effects and voice acting. Fun multiplayer. Nice Achievements. Meat Shields and Mulcher. Cons: Only 2 player co-op for campaign. 5 player co-op is Horde mode only. Long waiting time before playing a multiplayer match. Minor glitches and bugs but shouldn't be a big deal. Combustible map pack (3 multiplayer maps) costs 800ms=$10 online thats $3 per map plus an extra dollar for listing. Other Thoughts: Gears Of War 2 is a fun and immersive game. Although not very polished it's a great title and must own. If you liked Gears of War, you'll love this game. If you haven't played the first game you'll love it anyways. Pros: If you like Gears 1, you'll love Gears 2. Horde is a nice addition, as well as the added multiplayer enhancements (not perfect, see cons). I can't seem to stop playing this game. Cons: -1 egg for multiplayer on this game. Multiplayer has some definite matchmaking and lag issues. This started out as horrible, and has gotten somewhat better. I expect some occasional issues with any online game, but things were bad for awhile. Recently, (2.27.09 and 2.28.09) things seem to be fixed. I played for extended sessions on the above days with zero lag and no matchmaking issues. We'll see if Epic really fixed this, or if I just got lucky. Other Thoughts: I refuse to pay for downloadable content until I am convinced that the multiplayer is working as it should. Everything seems more monumental compared to the first. - The co-op in the game, much like the last is fantastic. - The multiplayer is the same, but with a few new modes and many more challenges come with them. - Gorgeous graphics that you expect. - Epic, the makers of the game, reward those of us who played the first. If you have Gears of War one save files on your console, you'll be given bonus characters to play as in multiplayer. - Cole Train! Whooo! Cons: - The storyline is a bit weak, especially when they try to add depth to a few characters while just simply dropping new ones in. - Another driving level. I think these are the parts of both this and the first title. Other Thoughts: While it's certainly one of the best titles for the Xbox 360, I didn't see enough new in this game compared to the last. This is the middle chapter of a three-game story arc and it shows in the depth. But the main thing is that the gameplay remains intact, and it's still incredibly enjoyable to play with friends. Beautiful graphics, Huge/Strong guns, Great plot, Awesome Cut Scenes, long gameplay, awesome scenery, this game is one of the best I have played in my entire life....Usually am not that into third person shooters, and killing crazy monsters, but this game is 100% worth every dollar. Oh, and you'll be very happy to know that this game is FILLED with checkpoints--so if you die, you don't have to redo an entire level. Cons: I can't find any major cons with this game, it was excellent. It would have been nice if the character could jump, and if areas were not blocked off by invisible walls, however, it does prevent confusion when it is not clear where to go. Multiplayer only has 2 maps! Ridiculous! Other Thoughts: I didn't run into any problems with the multiplayer, like many have mentioned. The games did not lag a bit. However, after playing 15 something hours on beautiful scenery, why the heck does multiplayer only have 2 maps? It wouldn't have been that hard for them to make a few more. Cons: Online gaming, takes for ever to get in a game and then you only play 2 rounds and you get kicked off and you have to start all over. It's not like gears 1 where you get in a game and go to different maps. It is ridiculous online gaming. Chainsaw is to easy everyone chainsaws because it doesn't flinch when you shoot the chainsawr' like in Gears one. Other Thoughts: had it for a week and took it to gamestop. Anyway, one thing your gonna notice is the graphics are phenomenal. The textures are a lot higher resolution, the level of detail into the levels, maps, and characters are very thorough, the lighting and depth of field and range of maps and levels are beautiful, and with the addition of great physics, is simply amazing. The added weapons are also cool. The campaign is another strong point. It's a lot more interesting, emotional, and fun to play than the first one. Cons: Then, there is the multiplayer. This game is only for two types of people: Those who love to play single-player/campaigns, or newcomers to the game/series. To veteran Gears of War players, the multiplayer is nothing but a DISGRACE. The lag is still there and is even a little worse mainly because there will be lag 75% of the time. The players are some of the most cheapest pieces of garbage I've ever seen. Every single person TWO PIECES (Which is a shotgun shot after a melee) and melees, Which wouldn't be so bad, if everyone didn't do it every time they came out at you! And the chance it works, is even greater in this game than the first one. I dare you to try to play a game where no one quits. The one word to describe the multiplayer is BROKEN. You would think they would come out with a patch(s) to fix everything, but just look at the first gears of war, it was out for 2 years before the sequel came out and there is STILL lag,glitches, and exploits. Other Thoughts: This game would be perfect, if they put some effort into the multiplayer. To all veteran Gears of War players, do not even bother touching this piece of Garbage. All they cared about was the graphics and campaign, and they put in pretty much 30 minutes into multiplayer. The campaign is the strongest point of this game. They made a lot more interesting, and a lot more fun to play. The variety of weapons is also great. Horde mode is cool, and playing with bots is pretty fun as well. Cons: If you played a lot of the first gears of war multiplayer, you are going to despise the multipalyer in the second. Every single problem the first game had, has COMPLETELY escalated and is just a disgrace. Every SINGLE person Two Pieces, (If you played the first one you know what I'm talking about.) The lag is HORRENDOUS!!!!! It's extremely lucky to be able to get into a non-laggy match. They pretty much worked on multipalyer for half an hour and said" Yup, we're done." Other Thoughts: This game is pretty much for two types of people. People who love campaigns and single player, or newcomers. For veteran gears of war players, DO NOT EVEN BOTHER TOUCHING THIS PIECE OF TRASH!!!! You could say: "Oh yeah, they can release a patch to fix the lag and glitches right?" If only they would care! The detail in each area has vastly improved. Playing on hardcore gives quiet a challenge. I have yet to beat the game, but the story takes much more twist and turns, plus surprises. I'd recommend this game to those who have played the original GEARS. The controls are still smooth and basically identical to the original game. While the multiplayer suffers from some balance issues, and anyone with a life will find most of these modes hard to enjoy/being killed a ton, it's worth the cover price for the new HORDE multiplayer mode. You and four others are dropped onto a map and fight wave after wave of Locust -- together. Using the chat and left btn to find your pals, you'll spend hours wiping out tons of Locust and have a blast. Makes Live worth the price for this game/mode alone! The game works well and well, it came in mint condition. Cons: Horrible experience with Newegg. Shipping and customer support. Other Thoughts: I ordered all of my PC parts (building a new pc) on the 16th or 17th. Also ordered this game and an Xbox 360 at the same time. Everything came before the 19th. ..aside for this game. It kept saying "charged" while everything else said shipped. then I get the tracking # saying it was delivered. Now finally the status here changed to "shipped" but following the tracking, it still said delivered to Kansas or something (I'm in NY). Cons: That aside there are more holes in this game than swiss cheese. At the current juncture in time the online system half works. you can get into games now without waiting a month.... Buuuuttt (and it's a big n') the gears system likes to crash your game out of no where or kick players when it sees fit. "The Host has Been Disconnected" or something like that pops up and you've wasted 20 minutes of your life. Aside from that if you're team mates get the notion to leave and do there's no back up people can't join that game after it starts which is horrible... 3 on 5 in gears online is almost certain death. Other Thoughts: The shotgun has been weakened a little bit in gears 2 and the Chainsaw gained everything it lost and then time. Really you can run around willie nillie and cut people with that thing because if someone's charging you with a chainsaw there's nothing you can do but shoot and hope you kill them before they get to you. The stun a chainsawer get's from incoming fire doesn't stun them half the time and they can continue in to the kill which is pretty lame... Did you find this review helpful? Definitely the best looking console game out right now, and besides Crysis, the best looking game hands down. The sound and voice acting are also better...basically the entire technical side of the game has been improved in every respect. Gameplay, while being largely unchanged, is much smoother and more fun overall. New gameplay mechanics like crawling when down, using enemies as human shields, and being able to tag grenades onto walls mixes things up a bit. The games campaign is also much better and more engaging. The story, missions, and length have been GREATLY improved over the first. Co-Op is still in and better than ever also. As for multiplayer, well, still not great, but better than the original. Some of the maps interactive elements are pretty cool, and 5v5 is more action packed than the first games 4v4. Matchmaking is better than server system, but as of now it barely works. "What's Up" menu is great. Cons: My biggest gripe about the game is that, unlike the first game, guests can no longer join Xbox Live player matches online anymore. The only way to play with a guest locally is either in Horde mode, single player co-op, or in a multiplayer versus game with bots. Pretty dumb if you ask me, and completely unnecessary. Matchmaking system is completely broken as of now and it takes a very long time to get matched (at least when entering by yourself), and the chainsaw is completely overpowered. Make the overpowered shotgun from the first game useless in the second, and then take the chainsaw from trash to beast-like status? I don't know what Epic was thinking with that one... Wha tHappened Epic? Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year	12/17/2008 10:25:41 PM Fail. Pros: Campaign was pretty good... Boss battles were fine until the last... Graphics are better contrary to popular opinion... Cons: Multiplayer. This game is broken beyond repair. The lag DOES exist. If you are playing public matches online, you WILL run into lag. The quitters... you WILL run into quitters. When a host quits, you get booted back to the main menu, and guess what? You get penalized for it. Thats right, you get points taken from your overall rank... for someone else quitting. Host advantage.... Oh they fixed that right? Nope. The "fix" was that they made the host random. Its matchmaking now, similar to Halo, except that it is inferior... (and take it from a player that HATES Halo 2 and 3... the matchmaking in those games is SUPERIOR) Matchmaking.... broken. I have at times had to sit for upwards of ten minutes, just to be matched. This is not from a lack of players. There was a "patch" that was supposed to rectify this problem... but its still there. Now for the unforgivable stuff. (see below) Other Thoughts: Chainsaw. I am not one to cry about cheapness in games, because that is a scrub thing to do... if its in the game its not too cheap right? Wrong. The chainsaw CANNOT be lowered. If I charge at you with a rev'd saw... You can shoot and shoot, but I will die before that saw ever goes down. That is totally wrong. I am all for change... but in Gears 1 it was almost impossible to saw someone in MP because one shot interrupted a rev. Now its the polar opposite? Me thinks fail. False walls. Every wall in MP can be used as a weapon... If you are in cover, and someone melees the wall opposite, it hits you. That's right, you can hit through walls. Think that's bad enough? You can grenade tag though them too... and not just walls... pillars too. Was playing on the map Pavilion today and actually tagged someone in cover from opposite side of the pillar they were on near grenade spawn. I cannot put the controller down to go to bed...both Gears 1 & 2 for me are the best next generation games today, among others like Assassins creed which is another personal favorite. The controls are still the same which makes it easy to transition to the second title, smooth game play, covering system works better this time, and the weapons are outrageously fun to use. Next characters are introduced, including Dizzy and Tie. Also, on the horde side new enemies with their own special abilities. The story line gives you a better understanding of what the human race is fighting for and individual stories for Marcus and Dom. Cole, Baird and Carmine are introduced again in a smart way as well. Props to Epic for a great title! Cons: The streamline shooting is not one of my favorites, not really a con but i don't mind it. The shot gun response timing is a little bit off, and not as powerful when freestyle shooting...works 100% sharp when aiming directly. Again, not a big con but i guess i need more practice... A few glitches here and there...i notice when i was playing with my girlfriend, on the River map, one of the grubs was in midair shooting at me and another was caught inside the bridges wood, and some of them just got stuck in walls i couldn't understand how it happened. Its hard for the XBOX 360 to keep up witha beefy game like this i guess... I didn't buy it on newegg :) Other Thoughts: This was money well spent. I enjoyed every minute of the story, and multiplayer continues to dominate. I ruined my first disk somehow and had to buy a new copy, so i spent twice as much but it was worth it. Hopefully i won't ruin this one...so take good care of your disks. One good was of doing that is laying the XBOX 360 horizontal instead of vertical. I stayed up for many hours doing co-op with my younger brother, and he's not even a fan of shooters! Like the makers, this game is Epic in many ways. There's many times I was just shocked at how awesome a lot of the movies played out and some of the situations you find the team in. Horde mode is cool, I've yet to try Multiplayer (only Silver at the moment), the graphics are outstanding, even on a normal TV, and the game is funny in a few parts. I'd easily recommend this to new and old 360 owners. Cons: Once you beat the game, the rush is gone. :p Some technical issues here and there, like texture pop-in, and major slow-down in Co-Op (what'd you expect, the game is BEEFY) but they are all forgivable since it's such a thrill ride from start to finish. It's easily followable and just cuts straight into the action (with a little twist at the very very end). The graphics are somewhat better than the first with more colors other than shades of brown. The game-play is good with the cleaned up cover system and shooting overall really the same as the first gears. In truth I actually like the multiplayer more than the campaign, you get to vote on your game-mode and map and teaming up with friends online is more easily done. Cons: The campaign was really short, I completed it on normal in under 6 hours (a couple more levels would have sufficed, I usually don't like games that are too long). The multiplayer is good, but it takes around 10 minutes to get in a joined game every time you put in the game. But it gets a lot faster after the first time you connect and start a game. It gets laggy when playing on co-op in campaign and there is a lot of action going on, but at least it doesn't last too long. Other Thoughts: It was too good to give it less than 5 stars. Picks up the story for Gears 1 and continues it very well. I like that they added new aspects to the game that differed from the first, but still held true to its Gears of War title. Character development which kind of goes parallel with the storyline perspective, but it was way better then the first one. They implemented it in such a way that it was interesting to know and learn about the characters and also kept the story hot and exciting. Of course the co-op was a must and like the first is still a big positive for the game. The addition of the chainsaw battles was fun, but I rarely ever got in one. And of course the overall game play. Easy and fun to play, and an engaging game that keeps to on the edge of your seat for at least a few hours. Cons: The game is short. I rarely criticize games for being short, but anybody who plays this eventually comes to the conclusion that the game needed to be longer (or at least lengthen the ending). I beat this in two days, took about 7 hours. The final boss battle was just pathetic, it didn't even come close to the first game (or any game for that matter). It was way to easy (yes I was playing on hardcore), and it wasn't even that exciting. Voice acting was a little off but nothing to throw off a real gamer, and anybody interested in the story (which is really what is important). Also there was a little bit of weapon lag. Other Thoughts: I would say there is a little bit of replay value, more then most games simply because it is a Gears of War game, but less then I'd like. Haven't really played any of the online modes, so hopefully that gives it more replay. This game is definitely worth the buy. Play it with a friend, it is way more fun that way. People got mad because you couldn't fight the Brumak. In GoW2, there are more Brumak fights then you can shake a stick at. Sometimes you're even pitted against 2 of them at once. I would say 3, but I don't quite remember. The chainsaw duals are also fun. If you think the Halo 3 Multiplayer match making is the work of doG spelled backwards (So restricted), then don't worry, It might as well be a clone of it. The Lag in all weapons but the shot gun seem to be non-existent now. The game just has a lot of win to it. Cons: Tiny bits of the of the voice acting is kind of bad.. Almost entering horrible territory, but doesn't take away froml the game. I don't know why, but every single weapon in the game seems to be free of the dreaded lag, but the shot gun. The first game had a huge lag problem. I guess they fixed it in everything but the shotgun. I've fired all weapons a wall and they seem to have an instant hit but the shotgun. It's like a second long delay. I would have also liked to be able to pick the gametypes and maps I want, but that was killed for whatever reason. You'll Love Gears 2 Pros: Yes, although it's rather soon to write a review for a game that hasn't been out for not even 24 hours, but I have to say I'm impressed. The graphics are slightly improved, but that's the least of the game play enhancements. Horde is a LOVELY addition, and they did fill in the gaps to the story. Online has never been better, a lot of the bullet lag that plagued the first game is no where to be found in this one. And Chainsaw Duels solve all that "host" garbage. Cons: Like I said if you liked Gears 1, you'll love Gears 2. But! If you hated and can't stand Gears 1, Gears 2 has very little to offer to make you like the game. ... Oh, and the story is still a bit stale, but it's still an improvement over the first one. Other Thoughts: Bottom Line- Although the campaign is SLIGHTLY stale, the vast multi-player options and game types keep this game replay-able. GET THIS GAME, especially if you love shooters... Because you guys gonna get it anyway even if I say it's bad... This totally meet my standard and expectation. After testing it took a over night to beat it on casual. Improved from the first game, the environment has become even more useful. The graphic to me was better (I played this on a 65 inch HD, first one on a 30inch...) definely good enough to freak you out. Cons: I don't know... but for a game like this it's always too short for anyone. Parts of the game you haveto kill everything within the area or do something specific to unlock futher action. Sometime if u didn't listen carefully to what they talk about in the game or u missed killing a npc... I t gets little annoying. Other Thoughts: This is a great game! One unlike HALO or CALL of DUTY. This is more of a strategy first person shoter game. You can just run into bunch of people and shot at them, you got to be smart. N/A Tech Level: high Ownership: less than 1 day	11/6/2008 9:24:26 AM GREAT GAME Pros: The biggest badazz game around!!! If you watched the trailers like I did you couldn't resist. Awesome chainsaw pwnage. Received a 9.0 on Gamespot.com like expected. For anyone that played the first Gears of War the second will be a treat for you.
