nice remote
Pros: Can program anything into this remote. Lots of features
Cons: all your dvd controls (ff, stop, pause, rw) are at the bottom and are not easily accessable. light button not easy to find on remote.

Good hardware, horrid software
Pros: "Dumbbell" shape fits the hand well like a classic Tivo remote. Nice tactile feel to the buttons. Glow button noticeable in the dark.
The software, when it works, allows you to set very complicated sequences for controlling a wide array of components. I replaced 5 remotes with this one and I'm happy with it now that it's configured.
Cons: The software that you must use to install the remote is truly horrible, enough to make me consider never buying another Harmony remote.
The software is large in size. This would make you think the database of remote sequences is stored on your machine. Maybe not, because it's impossible to start the software without a net connection. Not good if you are trying to program a remote at your lake cabin.
The software is slow and goes into La-La land at random times. It takes so long some times that it times out and logs you out. You can't take a command from one device (eg. VolumeUp) and apply it to a device where it doesn't think it belongs (eg. Tivo), so you have to teach it the command, even though it exists for the TV. Ad infinitum...
In the end, I was able to program my remote, but it could've been much easier with better software.
Other Thoughts: Funny, now that I have this nice remote, my wife still does the "5 remote cha-cha-cha". Why? Because after all the pain and anguish I went through with the software, she doesn't want to use the remote. "That's YOUR remote, these are MINE".

Not as nice as the 870
Pros: Easy to program; allows you to program buttons to functions that the stock remote didn't even have!
Cons: Don't like the button feel; my 670 broke (my fault), and the LCD buttons were much bigger and much easier to feel and press Doesn't have the "page up/page down" buttons that the 670 had...never needed these until I got a digital cable box, so I had to map them to the LCD buttons. Bummed that I can't map the Media button to a function, particularly when one of my devices is a MCE PC.
Other Thoughts: This 659 doesn't turn all the way off when I hit the power button...the Logitech logo displays all the time. I fear the battery life is going to be extremely poor due to this; the 870 would completely power off when I hit the Off button. Also, I got the 659 refurbished for a pretty good price.

Pros: Works as designed, functions with Vista Windows Media Center, Onkyo receiver, and Samsung DLP TV. This remote is also inexpensive which is the primary reason for buying rather than a more featured remote (see cons).
Cons: The manual/documentation for this remote is extremely poor, close to non-existent. Some button functions are ambiguous and their purpose is not clear. It took some time to figure out how to assign MCE remote buttons to the proper function on the Harmony.
It would be nice if the "Media" button could be assigned to something. I'd rather it be the "Green Button" from Media Center.
Does not have the capability to assign a button for "skip back/previous" on DVD playback, just rewind. Has "skip forward/next", so this is nonsensical.
Other Thoughts: I really like this remote, but I wouldn't buy it again based on the cons.

Nice remote
Pros: Very easy set up with the logitech software. Recognized even my amplifier that a thougth it was of an unknow brand.
Cons: Too few macros
Other Thoughts: I found the software very useful and not intrusive as other review said. maybe you just need to update the version of the software

Great Remote!
Pros: Operates all my equipment properly, including multi-room modes on Yamaha receiver and input selection on my Panasonic plasma tv.
Cons: No facility to control order of user defined activities on the display, LCD screen could be a little bigger, button placement could be a little better.
Other Thoughts: Overall, this remote rocks. I love that the push of a couple of buttons replaces fumbling through 3 or 4 remotes to get the system on and functioning; you can also control other devices fairly easily. Also like the "Help" feature and the 1 button to turn everything off. User interface for programming the remote is fine. I've had no battery problems yet (2 months), but I did turn off the backlight.

Awesome Remote!
Pros: I can't say enough about this remote. I purchased it for my in-laws for Christmas and set it up for them. They have a cable box, dvd player, VHS, receiver, and TV. This remote controls them all with ease. I absolutely LOVE the macro button at the top like "Watch TV" - it can sense if devices are already on and won't try to turn them off. This thing just works!
Cons: Only thing I can think of is if you don't get the model number exactly right, the controls might not function properly, so just double check the model numbers.
Other Thoughts: My in-laws had a dvd player that was a no-name brand that I've never heard of before. I didn't have much confidence in finding it in the list to program the remote. I couldn't believe it when I saw it in the list, blew me away.

This is the best remote
Pros: This remote is a pro. If you can use a computer you can program this remote. So far it has been great I have had it for over a year, and changed out 3 componets in my home entertainment system. Within 15mins of putting in a new component I have the remote reprogramed for it. I have had 3 different DVD player 2 of them VCR combo units the most recent one a recorder. Every one of them has been in the online database of supported products.
Cons: NONE, NIX, NINE, NIL, NADA.
Other Thoughts: This is the best remote I have ever owned. I would happily buy one for every room in my home that has any kind of remote controls. Logitech did a great job with this thing. My Wife and daughter even like it.

Good For a year and 4 months
Pros: I have a home theatre with 4 components and this remote did everything that I wanted it to do. The setup was a little tedious when I 1st bought the remote, but improved over the last year with software revisions.
Cons: The small programmable buttons on either side fo the LCD screen have become very hard to activate. Several of them must be pushed very hard to make them work. I have reprogrammed the functions to different buttons but this limits functionality and is pretty irritating.

Worked for 1 year 1 month
Pros: This remote replaced the remotes for 4 different system components. TV, DVD, Stereo Receiver, and VCR. Programmed via Logitect web site and software. Worked fine. Some 'fine tuning' was required.
Cons: Died suddenly 1 year and 1 month after purchase. 1 month out of warranty. Not really a Con: Spent 1+ hour on phone with software tech trying to revive it. Logitech tech support is very good, They replaced the 659 with a 670 unit at no cost. 659 is not made any longer.
Other Thoughts: I buy practically all computer stuff from Newegg. Excellent service and delivery. I am also impressed by Logitech support. They replaced the unit even though technically it died after 1 year warranty. 5 stars because of Newegg service and Logitech support.

Pros: This is the greatest remote I've ever owned. I have a Sony TV, Bose DVD/Surround Sound and Motorola cable box. I click one button and everything comes on exactly the way it needs to. Initial set up was a breeze. Button placement is great for me.
Cons: I've had this remote for over 2 years now, and I've had 2 problems: First was when I was having problems with my DVD player (which turned out to be the player itself) I wanted to "reload" that part of remote, but it would sense that it was already there and wouldn't reload. I had to zeroize the remote and reload everything. Not a huge deal but I hate things that think they know what I want better than I do. The second problem is I had it set up so that it would illuminate for 5 seconds after you push a button then go off. The light stopped going off automatically, which would run the batteries down quickly. I went back into setup and made it so the light didn't come on at all and solved that problem (you can still turn on the light manually it just doesn't automatically turn on when you press a button).
Other Thoughts: One of the reviews gave it a 1 star because the software runs in the background when you start up your computer. It does have an option to turn this off so it doesn't. I've had this remote for over 2 years and have 2 small children, and have had only minor problems with this remote.

Works Great
Pros: Software makes it easy to program. Easy one-touch operation for each activity makes it great for my wife and kids. Works all the devices it's programmed for flawlessly.
Cons: Getting it to control my DishNetwork 811 was a little tricky. No Bluetooth capability, so you still need a separate remote for Blu-Ray on PS3.
Other Thoughts: This is a great product that does what it's designed to do. Logitech's instructions for DishNetwork tuners could have been a little more clear, but once I figured out where I messed up, it instantly worked great. Overall, I'm very satisfied. Once again, Newegg sets the gold standard with a good price and super fast shipping.

A great remote.
Pros: The "activity" concept is a great one in a remote. It feels great in the hand and had all my componants in the DB. A Great remote.
Cons: Not so much a con, as it was a oversight on my part. I didn't realize this model didn't have a full set of DVR controls (i.e. Pageup/Pagedown, skip, and in a central location). Again, my fault for not paying attention.
Other Thoughts: This is a great remote, but if your going to use it with a DVR or a MythTV or a Windows Media Center HTPC then get the Logitech 670 or better. Otherwise this will work great for a DVD, VHS, CD, Laserdisc, TV, etc....

Long time owner
Pros: It can control any IR-capable device. The vast majority of device codes are downloaded from an online database. If they are not in the database, the remote will "learn" them from the device's remote. Learned codes are then uploaded for the convenience of other users with the same device. In this way, the database is constantly being updated.
Cons: I'll preface this by saying that I've had the remote for over 3 years now (since prior to Logitech acquiring the Harmony brand). The hardware itself has some weak design points. The battery cover is a little flimsy, and tends to bulge out from the pressure of the batteries (which will pop out if the cover slips out of place). It eventually broke and is now held on with electrician tape. The LCD display has developed a bad connection and has to be pressed on to get it to work. The OFF button (which turns off all active devices) has stopped working completely. There's no way to map this function to another button, so I had to create a custom sequence to shut down the devices for each mode.
Other Thoughts: Despite the flaws above, this is a great remote, and completely outshines anything else in the price range. It replaced dedicated remotes for 5 different devices (TV, cable tuner, surround receiver, HTPC, game console). Basic setup is quick and easy, but there are options to tweak and customize just about everything. I'm not aware of any other company that has remotes with this sort of "activity" functionality, and I fully intend to replace my aging 659 with a new Harmony sometime soon.

Buttons stop working after 1.5 years
Pros: I love this remote. Once you have it setup, you can't live without it. This particluar model has a better button layout than the newer models as far as FF/REW go (but that's my personal preference).
Cons: After 1.5 years of use, you have to push the channel up/down buttons hard for them to work. Other buttons are slowly dying as well. Unfortunately the warranty is only 1 year. Tech support is great and answer quickly (except during Christmas).
Other Thoughts: Sometimes the software used to program the remote will allow you to configure it to where the remote won't work. The web interface says everything is OK, but its not. Only tech support can identify the problem after you have torn your head out. Also, you have to buy a new one every 1.5 years as the buttons wear out, and these aren't cheap. I have used RCA remotes that come with the tv that have lasted over 5 years.

There are better harmony remotes out there....
Pros: It is a universal remote and universal definitely means universal. The software/online database, comes with everything you could imagine and is fairly simple to program.
Cons: The screen only holds 3 devices... if your looking to switch between devices quickly, i.e. to do three things at once that you don't have programmed as a 'mode' (like watch tv button can be programmed to turn tv on, home theatre on, delay... switch to dvd on home theatre, dim lights, but there are going to be times where you don't want to dim the lights... or the tv is already on...). You want to be able to turn the tv in less then 4 buttons sometimes, then to do something else, not 4 more. The screen just isn't that accessible.
Other Thoughts: It might be worth the money - and the time - to go to a store and check out all the features the harmony series has. They will be able to control any device you want (except playstation 3) it's just the controllers accessibility that changes.

Great Remote... perfect for "Dummies"
Pros: Once my hubby got it all programed it's a perfect remote for someone not technically inclined!! As for the other reviewer that was talking about the macros not knowing if the TV is on or off, you should press "Help" and it will go through a list of questions and 9 times out of 10 will correct the problem without you having to get off the couch! (Turn on TV or change the setting on the reciever). This is a great remote and worth the price!! Much better than me getting in trouble for pressing buttons on the receiver or TV trying to get a movie to play and messing it up!! Believe me it used to happen a lot but now I just press "Watch a Movie" and it does it all for me!!
Cons: Price is a little high for a remote but it's worth it!!

Wife keeps stealing it on me...
Pros: Replaces ALL other remotes Comfortable to hold Batteries last a long time Nicely Backlit Out of Box Codes available for ANYTHING (even your ceiling fan!) 1-Button macros 1-Button Macro Buttons (i.e. "Watch Movie, Watch TV,...) Help is helpful Get hand-me-down DVD players, set-top boxes, TV's, etc.. and don't need the OEM remotes! Much better than many tiny-buttoned OEM remotes Easy for the kids Easy for the Grandparents
Cons: Kludgy interface to program WEB-ONLY interface!!! Can never seem to find the "glow" button I only bought 1
Other Thoughts: Bought this one for a B-day gift for a friend. Say goodbye to your remotes! I set this up for my home-theater and love it! I programmed all of the devices in the living room (rest of the house as well) too! Now, I have to always hunt down where my wife left it. :-) Web interface is clumsy, but get used to it quick. Just Google your question. This is something you don't realize how convenient it can be. until you've used it. Stop reading this and buy it!

additional notes to previous review...
Pros: See previous review...bought a light dimmer to use with remote. Also found that the C****t DVR emulation now has an advance button that skips 30 seconds (bye-bye commercials!)
Cons: After I got my IR light dimmer, I found the setup is not as customizable as I would like. I spent quite a bit of time ( an hour or so) trying to "optimize" the placement of the dimmer access..Would like remote to glow a little easier (when picked up like higher end model?)
Other Thoughts: I still have work to do to get this to be perfect with the lights. It is cool that I was able to buy an IR dimmer for $30 and quickly add it to this remote. Access is buried a little deeper than I would like for my wife (in particular). I think I will be able to figure out a "work around", but there is some time involved. I still am enamored of the thing....

Finds the tough components!
Pros: operates my Sanyo projector, Sony audio, JVC DVD, and anything else I've ever tried. Even handles tough jobs like the "double click" for powering off the projector. Amazing!
Cons: Loses macros occasionally but has an incredible help menu that walks you through all the things that "should" be happening until it fixes itself.
Other Thoughts: Assignable "window" choices are especially good for DVR units that have A-B-C options. Or anything else for that matter. Great "learning" function for impossible codes.

Why didn't I do this sooner???
Pros: Inexpensive, glows, easy set-up, recognized all devices immediately..
Cons: took a long time to download and install software, but worth the wait!
Other Thoughts: I have an Optoma proj, a Pioneer receiver, Sony DVD Player and a Comcast DVR. It recognized them all and set them up perfectly. It took a total of about 30 minutes, but it was well worth the wait! Now I wonder why I waited so long and used 4 remotes for the last year!

After 1 year of ownership
Pros: Great way to integrate all your home theater components. Web based or a new stand alone software package makes it easy to program.
Cons: After about 10 months some of the buttons wore out. All the left soft keys next to the display stopped working. The volume up button stopped as well. Eats AAA batteries, about 1 set per month with light usage.
Other Thoughts: Loved it while it worked. When some of the buttons stopped working I called tech support which runs you through typical silliness, flash the firmware, update the remote software, etc. After doing all that I finally convinced them to send me a new one. It never came so we called back a month later. Oh, your warranty has expired. What??? Why didn't they tell me that in the first place? Anyway, they said they would still replace it but I'm still waiting.

You Don't Know How Much You Need This
Pros: It works! It does everything it says it does. Incredibly customizable. My TV is over 4 years old and my receiver over 7 years. Had them both in the database and configured with no problems. It IS everything is claims to be.
Cons: None, really. I had to spend a little time tweaking things to my liking but everything worked off the bat. Don't like needing to set up an account to use it but I guess it's OK.
Other Thoughts: Saw some complaints about menu structures but no more difficult to figure out than any onther new piece of software. As always Newegg's service was excellent. Got it the day after I placed the order.

Awesome remote!
Pros: This remote is wonderful. It has replaced 4 remotes. I have used many other "device"-based remotes in the past, but none really compare to Logitech's "activity"-based remotes. The price difference between this and other high end remotes also helps. Setup time for me was around 10 minutes (from opening the box, to installing the software and configuring the remote). If you are tech savvy you'll have no problems whatsoever. If not, prepare for a slight learning curve. People complain about the website... it's fine. It's simple to navigate and does its job well. All of the following components were found immediately: Samsung HL-S7178W Denon AVR-3300 Sony DVP-NC665P Motorola DCT-6416
It auto-mapped every single button that these devices use to the proper ones on the remote. The only ones I had to manually add were "Disk Skip" and "Live TV". I chose this model because it had the closest button layout to our MOXI, which we had come to rely on.
Cons: You may be thinking that the price is a tad high for a remote control. I would tend to agree... until you get it configured and see how it makes your home theater system "complete".
Other Thoughts: After reviewing all of Logitech's remotes I decided on the H659B. Originally I was after the H670, but after testing it at local retail, I decided that the button placement was not optimal. I would suggest everyone do the same and not depend on a review. Being able to hold each model will immediately reveal the button sizes, placement, sturdiness, etc. (Then you can buy it from Newegg to save cash :)) Like I said before, I love the button placement on this one. It took all of 5 minutes to become accustomed to, and not have to look down to see what I was doing.

PREPARE FOR TECH SUPPORT!
Pros: Controls ALL of my components including an HP laptop with Media Center. Trimmed my coffee table collection from six remotes to ONE! (Well, except for the light/fan controller – see Cons). I successfully mapped buttons to learn things like my cable provider’s info guide for programs. I can ‘customize’ which buttons to display for each device and activity. Even if the activity doesn’t come on properly, a ‘Help’ button guides you through (usually) correcting any problems. I still have the option to control each device individually.
Cons: Did not control my lights, which use RF. I read some reviews stating that it even controlled some users’ lights, but I guess their lights were using IR. PAINFUL installation. Motorola digital cable box was the most difficult. I DON’T call tech support, but I had to on this one. If I had to spend 10 more minutes on the phone with tech support I was going to RMA this thing! Buttons are stiff plastic – I prefer the soft touch style. Button layout is not ergonomic. The placement of the ‘Stop’, ‘Play’, etc. buttons are at the bottom. A more efficient placement of these buttons would be near the middle, accessible by one’s thumb. The web interface is AWFUL! Have to (1) sort through the setup (2) setup each device/activity (3) confirm (4) update the remote (3 minutes each time!) (5) unplug the remote (6) test it (NEVER works the first time) & then go back & repeat.
Other Thoughts: I have a love/hate relationship with this remote. When it works, it’s GREAT! But the setup is a pain in the you-know-what! I read one review that said, “Be prepared to call tech support.” I thought maybe this reviewer just was not tech savvy, but they were RIGHT! After three calls of 2 hours 45 minutes, 45 minutes and 2 ½ hours, tech support and I FINALLY got it right. Whew! And this thing was supposed to simplify my life… Finally, the database the remotes use is a collection of user-based entries. So, there’s a potential for the database to contain incorrect information regarding a component’s function. For example, Directional buttons for my TV were in the database, but my TV didn’t respond, so I had to create my own.

Outstanding
Pros: Controls 6 devices with no problem. The wife can now for the first time watch anything she wants with the push of a(1) button. Great product.
Cons: none so far
Other Thoughts: Setup in about 1 hour. Didn't have to call tech support. Works great.

Hardware great, Software bad
Pros: Excellent remote, good feel, looks good. Very programmable, even had settings for a Polaroid DVD !
Cons: Depending on the Harmony host is killing the product right now, the host keeps corrupting/losing my settings. Others are seeing this too besides the "Unable to display content." error which makes you re-enter all your work! Once Harmony gets the host fixed I'd rate it a solid 5 but for now it's a 2 at best.
Other Thoughts: Newegg is the best by far, I considered RMA'ing the thing and within seconds I had a number. I've decided to stick it out however since the host will most likely get fixed.

Pros: Controls most components of Home Theater with the push of a button, Easy to program, Easy to use.
Cons: Quarter of the time the remote does not set all equipment to the proper function and Help is need to correct the discrepancies through a lengthy process. Will not support multiple functions on the dvd/reciever, such as xm satellite tuner or usb host.

Should have lasted longer...
Pros: Simple, Intuitive design. Installation was a breeze. Controls all my components
Cons: durability- after two years, buttons went out, remote became laggy. Resetting via comp did nothing.
Other Thoughts: Ive had this remote for over two years now, and for the last couple of months its been acting up. First it would lag really bad, then the buttons started going out one by one. It served its job well, but I would expect this expensive remote to last more than two years. Im now goin to try out the newer Harmony 550.

well worth it
Pros: I have worked for many stereo ompanies and this remote by far is the easiest to use, program, and logitec is great with customer support. I have spent over 25 hours in the past trying to customize the programming of touch screen remotes such as the pronto and other marantz models. The web utility is easy to use and the overall help on the remote made use exactly how i liked it. a must have for every room at such a low price
Cons: may take a couple retries for erfict use but overall a easy to use product
Other Thoughts: shipping was great at my door the day i got the tracking number

Excellet remote
Pros: Excellent remote for the money, especially when you get another one for free with a tv purchase. Easy to set up due to the use of a the web.
Cons: May need some custome configurations from the defaults.
Other Thoughts: Amazing shipping by newegg!!!

Great Remote!
Pros: Once the remote was properly set up, it worked like a charm! With just the touch of a button it truly does turn on all necessary components and sets them to the correct input/output! Went from 5 remotes to only 1!
Cons: Setup was a little frustrating, my Bose surround system remote uses RF and the remote only supports IR. Had to disable the setting on my stereo.
Other Thoughts: This remote is for anyone who is tired of having to use multiple remotes. Controls all aspects of all my components. Great product.

Very easy, great product
Pros: Great flexibility with what it allows you to control.(i.e. IR controlled electric & gas FP) I am an installer of custom home audio/video and I tell you, for your money, no other product on the market (any market for that matter) will simplify your life like this will!! I've set-up and used the 659, 550, and the 880 and if I had to choose it would be the 659 first then the 550. The 880 is just a little finicky on the charger.
Cons: The only con I hae experienced with this remote is that it eats batteries quick. If you adjust the glow period down to 5sec it helps. Otherwise get rechargable batteries or I use the Energizer Lithium batteries. They last almost 3x longer than regular batteries in the 659.
Other Thoughts: Some people just aren't meant to own nice equipment. If you dont know how to use the internet, then you may just want to keep juggling those remotes!

Gotta love these
Pros: This thing rocks. I have 4 different brands of equitment in my tv room. This was the easiest remote I have ever programed, works great with all my stuff (TV,DVD,CD,Reciver). As long as you can find a part number your good to go.
Cons: Sometimes it has hiccups, but they are rare.
Other Thoughts: No other universal remote will ever hold a candle to this one.

Great Remote!
Pros: Price, works as programmed, buttons are a little bigger and more evenly spaced than the newer models in the same price range. Can replace lost remotes (have a sony tv and panasonic vcr that had menu commands only on the orig remotes).
Cons: Had a problem updating the firmware when I first received it, but a simple search on the net gave me the workaround.
Other Thoughts: Spent a few days tweaking this remote & now it works like a charm. Troubleshoot option on the web was very useful. TV was not going to the correct input from off when you do a "watch tv" or "watch a movie". Just do troubleshoot and you can adjust the tv "warm up" time so that the remote only sends commands (in this case, change input) when the tv is ready to receive it. I used the LCD for commands not on the 659 buttons since I didn't want my wife to memorize "hot" buttons. For "watch a movie", I placed DVD commands under the main activity area, receiver commands under "Sound", and tv commands under "Picture". By dividing commands into 3 groups, renaming them to descriptive names not more than 7 chars, sorting them so that the more oft-used commands are on the 1st two pages, and deleting a lot of junk commands, I can use the LCD effectively w/o flipping thru a lot of pages. Sure I spent some time doing this but now I can sit back and enjoy our HT w/ one powerful remote :-)

Pros: Harmony technical support is excellent! Web based programming is nice.
I went from five remotes to one and loving it.
Cons: PLAN ON CALLING TECHNICAL SUPPORT!
I am a computer network administrator and familiar with installing home A/V. I had no fears of getting this thing programmed on my own, I thought it would be a no-brainer but I was very wrong. I spent 4 hours programming and testing the thing before breaking down and calling their support. I even had all of my original remotes to "teach" the Harmony commands but it was unable to switch to the proper inputs. Harmony was able to address the solution quickly even though the solution was not exactly intuitive.
LCD is small and is unable to always display full text.
Sometimes the buttons just don't respond but the problem has been remedied by selecting the activity again.
Other Thoughts: In hindsight I wish I would have picked up a newer model with more buttons (specifically for PVR commands) but I did manage to map the neccessary PVR command on this model.
Overall I am very happy with this product and it has made my life (and especially my wife's) a little less complicated

Takes a licking and . . .
Pros: It's a lot more durable than it looks. It's very easy to program if you follow the instructions which are available in different levels of technical skill. I bought mine well over a year ago. I've dropped it, sat on it, stepped on it, got it wet, and squeezed it between seat coushions for days at a time. Even if you do lose the programming (took a 2 year old drooling toddler to accomplish this), you simply plug your USB cable in and go to your Harmony account on the internet where the profile is saved - fixed in minutes.
Cons: I'd like the text to be larger in the LCD but that's a personal thing.
Other Thoughts: Some people don't like the fact that it takes up to 1.5 sec for all the commands to execute before you stop pointing it. Personally, I can live with that. Also, I've seen complaints about short battery life. Our remote gets heavy daily use and only asks for batteries about every 3 - 4 months. Again, I find this acceptable.

Best universal remote solution
Pros: Easier to set up and use than most universal remotes. The entire concept of "activities" makes it simple enough for anyone to use. My aging mother picked it up and had no trouble.
Cons: Does tend to eat batteries, especially if you have to reprogram it several times to get things just right. Keep AAAs on hand.
Other Thoughts: This is the remote to buy if you're tired of trying to explain to your wife how to turn on the DVD player and set the TV and surround receiver to the proper inputs. The remote keeps track of the status of each device and can transition between activities by sending the proper signals. And if things get out of sync because a command wasn't received, just press the "help" button.

The perfect remote?
Pros: Very easy to use. One touch almost everything. Bought this and put away my other 4 remotes.
Cons: The programming involved a minor learning curve, but not a big deal.
Other Thoughts: OK, it won't run to the fridge for you, but it will do almost anything else. We briefly had the later generation Harmony and immediately took it back to get this one. Much better IMHO.

Very Flexible Remote
Pros: Very flexible. Programming over the internet is easy. It will do just about anything you can think off.
Cons: There is a significant delay (0.5 to 1 second) from the time that a button is pushed to the time that the command is executed.

Great remote
Pros: Very easy to use once you have set it up. I like the web based setup. The database had all my devices, including a 12 year old VCR. It has several activity buttons for common things like "watch TV", "watch a movie", etc. Simply press one (and keep the remote aimed at your components, it takes a few seconds to set all the inputs) and it sets all your devices to the proper inputs, etc. Even if something doesn't turn on properly, a help button talks you through turning everything on and setting all the inputs. You can customize all the controls per device, too. This thing replaced all 6 or so remotes I had lying around. I was able to put them away. Plus, everyone in my family can operate my HDTV home theater system.
Cons: Battery life is 2 months on average for a fresh set of alkalines. I reduced the duration of the backlight, so I'll see if that helps. The remote never seems to turn itself off, or go into sleep mode, either.
Other Thoughts: A great product. I am thinking about buying another one for my bedroom. You will need a good working knowledge of your home theater setup to set the remote up. You will need to know what inputs (Video 1,2,3, etc) your TV needs to watch a DVD or display TV from your cable box. You'll need to know all the inputs and outputs to/from all your components.

TV Listings discontinued
Pros: It worked reliably for about a year, still does.
Cons: It can get a little quirky, recently started taking to resetting itself on its own. Not surprising considering the number of times it's been dropped. Most disappointingly, Logitech decided to stop allowing downloads of tv listings without any notification. I really liked using that feature (which is one of the reasons I bought it and they've taken it away).
Other Thoughts: I won't buy logitech again for a remote. Though it was an excellent product, their decision to change the support is something I don't take lightly.

Excellent Remote
Pros: This remote is perfect for someone who just wants to keep it simple. It is absolutly dead easy to use once it is programmed. Pretty good design and layout. You can't beat the price for the features this thing has.
Cons: programming could be difficult if you don't know how your system is set-up. (which components are wired to which components, etc.)

Good Home Theater Remote
Pros: Great remote, controls everything I have with no problem. It's nice to control my whole home theater system and home built PVR with one universal device. Help system gets you back on track if a device gets out of sync -
Cons: Buttons require more than an average amount of force to press. Takes quite a bit of fooling around to get everything perfect.. but I'm kind of particular
Other Thoughts: I would have given this item a 5 if the buttons worked a bit easier. NewEgg is still 1st when it comes to delivery -

Best Value Around
Pros: Customizable, codes for newest components available, nice shape and balance, good range, programmable labels for custom buttons. My 3 year old can already turn on a DVD or TiVo when we let her...I bet my in-laws can even figure it out! The best part is the 'OFF' button...just make sure you don't put the remote down until the green light stops glowing! It will turn off everything for you, or make sure the right things are on for any particular activity.
Cons: Screen is a little small for some complex function names.
Other Thoughts: Finally a remote that my my mom or in-laws can operate. I have had several universals, and the problem is that when you get a new component you probably have to get a new remote because it won't know how to operate it. Sure you can program the old remote, but in the case of my RCA 8 device remote, you are limited in the number of custom buttons it can store...meaning that I ran out of custom buttons before I got everything running. With this thing, all of my components are covered, and new components in the future will be covered. Even if you don't know the model number...I just put my original remote up to the Harmony, pushed a couple buttons, and it figured out the right model for me! Amaze your friends, and be the hero of your house...8 remote controls put out of site, and a simple one left in its place.

Awesome
Pros: Wow, this thing is awesome! It was pretty easy to set up. You just have to be patient and go through the steps of answering the questions and getting everything set up. Only took an hour, and that's with the "tweaking" mentioned below.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: My older Zenith TV has the type of menus where you push the Menu key to get to a menu section (i.e. video input), then have to use the arrow keys to make a selection. The remote didn't set this up intially, but all I had to do was Add a function to the Activity (Direction Down) and it works flawlessly. If you have more than just a TV and cable/dish box, you need this. NOW!

Absolutely Spectacular
Pros: VERY Customizable...ANY command you can think of or perform on any of your other remotes, you can do on the Harmony. Even if a command is not already on the command list, you can have the Harmony "learn" what you want it to do by transferring the IR command from your current remote to the Harmony.
Cons: Not even one so far....
Other Thoughts: I've got a Dual Tuner DVR box, DLP HDTV, Surround sound sytem, DVD player/VCR combo, and an Xbox 360 ALL being controlled by this remote. It took me 3 1/2 hours and 2 calls to tech support to get it how I wanted it, and now its PERFECT. Tech support is fantastic, and easily able to answer most questions and even make changes to your remote for you over the phone so you don't have to fiddle with settings.

What a great buy
Pros: Great control, powerful, well balanced, ergonomic, well designed overall. Took me three hours to get it customized to my complete satisfaction (I am a little picky), but since I finished I am the happiest man on earth with this remote, I hesitated to buy it because of the price, but it is worth every penny.
Cons: Would love to be able to save/restore configurations, once you change a lot of things it could be hard to go back. Web configuration program took me a little to master but once I got it was able to change the configuration to my complete satisfaction
Other Thoughts: Buy it, simple or power user you will not regret it. Sorry for the poor English.

Good remote, not the best
Pros: Single button to turn everything on, and set imputs to watch tv, dvd, listen music, etc. normal size remote, you can get any device to work with this remote, and you can get all your devices to work with this remote. It will also get every function of your original remote to work on this remote. So you really dont need another remote at all, as long as you have the time to use this one
Cons: Setup on the internet is long, and you will constantly have to make changes to meet your needs. It is hard to turn off only 1 device since there is no power button on the remote, only an off and the off turns off all devices. Instead you must scroll through the onscreen functions to turn the device off. The screen requires a long effort to use other buttons that would normally be on your original remote, the screen lists out all other functions except the basic ones, very tedious to use the screen. Also the delay of the button push is very long compared to other universal remotes.
Other Thoughts: Id did exactly what i thought it would do, that is make all the functions of my original remotes work on 1 single remote. Problem is, it takes way too long! They overdesigned the functional ability of this remote but did not make it easy to use. I still have troubles with the non basic functions and the power of each individual device and it takes me very long to complete these tasks as opposed to with the original remotes or even a different universal remote. I tried custom setup to make things easier that u use more frequently but that is a daunting task also. This is merely a neat toy to play with but it is definately not something to make life simplified. I would recommend a remote with more normal push buttons, and less functions used by the screen. I have had other brand lcd screen remotes work better and easier, although bulkier to hold

Looks Pretty Good
Pros: Doesn't look as fancy as the higher priced newer models, but it's basic functionality is the same and its looks aren't that bad. This is definetly a good buy as it actually does its job! Don't buy the more expensive models if your only reason is the looks and screen, this model doesn't look bad at all.
Cons: None, It took a whole day to get my equipment in my entertainment center to work absolutely perfectly, but thats because I had no idea what my equipment was and it was my first time working with TV's and such.
Other Thoughts: Works Great, Looks good, and the price is right.

Wouldn't buy again
Pros: It works fine after getting it setup. It is nice to have a universal remote that will control every funtion in my devices including the menu functions.
Cons: It is odd to get used to. It is also a PITA to setup. At least it was for me. My computer would freeze before the update process for the remote was finished. Tech support wanted me to uninstall it, then install a newer version of the software. My computer froze attempting to uninstall the software. After an hour and a half on the phone with Logitech/Harmony tech support, they emailed me a link to their stand alone software that doesn't depend on a web browser. It wouldn't work either. I ended up formating the hard drive and reinstalling WinXP. The stand alone application works ok now, but still had to reboot the computer twice before it would work. The only thing I can figure is a driver incompatibility. No device should be this hard to setup.
Other Thoughts: Hopefully, Logitech/Harmony will rewrite their software or firmwares to be more compatible with computers.

Good performance but too much money
Pros: Easy setup, ligthweight, fairly small. Tough, the kids toss it around and it has held up.
Cons: Price, the same functionaliy can be had in a one for all for much less. Slow signal, I have to hold it towards the equipment for at least 5 seconds. Weak software for setup. It's almost too friendly, it tries to take the thinking out of the setup like it was Asimo or something.
Other Thoughts: Good price for this at Newegg but can't say I believe it was worth more than 50 bucks.

Harmony 659 Remote
Pros: What a great product! What could be better, a remote that is as complex and sophisticated as you want and as simple as pushing 1 button to watch or listen to whatever you want. I purchased this remote for my parents, who are in their 60s, to use on the system I installed in their house. I don’t think that I could find a better remote for them to use. The 659’s sleek, sharp looks matched with its obvious “Watch TV” type of buttons, and simple yet advance functions suit them the best, to use camera lingo, it‘s a point-n-shoot universal remote control. It doesn't get any easier than that! This remote is for anyone who desires the ability to push 1 button (honestly) to watch TV or 1 button to watch a DVD. Even if mistake is made, and the TV doesn't get the remote’s signal. for example, and doesn't turn on for you to Watch TV. The Help button will guide you via a series of YES/NO and ON/OFF type of questions displayed on the remote until everything is correct. Simple and easy!
Cons: An issue lies in older component equipment model #s, the Harmony remotes rely on the brand, and more importantly the model #, to get product info and the ability to ask specific questions to lead one thru the setup. No model # and it must get the info by comparing your component's remote output signals to its vast component database. Once that is done, then it will suggest a certain model as being the closest to the one you have. The internet will usually provide component model results, that and writing down every number on the back of the said component. The newer the model, the more likely it is to be on the list and you the fewer steps you will have to follow. Mind you the list is gi-normous and the likelihood of having to use the alternate method of the closest component on file is very low. If a nearly 10 year old VCR was on the list, I doubt anyone with a DVD player in their system has anything thing to worry about. New component equipment model #s, no problem.

Pros: usual Logitech quality.Solid feel.
Cons: Setup takes a while if you have lots of components.
Other Thoughts: Finally get to put away all the remotes. Once you spend 2 or 3 hours getting it setup,it controls everything including all special fuctions (PIP, etc.).Even runs media pc. Easy to use and see in a dark room thanks to the backlight. Software is a little buggy and runs in the background all the time, hence the 4 rating. All in all, nice job Logitech and Newegg for great service.

Works Great!
Pros: After owning 3 or 4 other universal remotes, I can say that this one actually replaced all the remotes for my HT system. Every function works, the one touch buttons are awesome, and the web based configuration utility did everything it needs to do.
Cons: It would be nice to have the software resident on the PC instead of web based. However, it works fine.
Other Thoughts: As stated previously, it does in fact add the Harmony config uitlity to your start up menu. That is easy enough to fix. Just drag it out of your start up folder onto your desktop, then you can start it when you want. I also did a spyware scan after installing this software, and there is nothing there, so don't worry, the software is not going to negatively effect your systems performancce.

Harmony 659
Pros: Finally a one stop choice for a remote. The custom buttons are great.
Cons: The web based software is the pits. Don't even think about programming it over Christmas. They can't handle the traffic. The only reason I can think of for web only programming is to collect personal data. It would be much better if you downloaded device files and set it up locally. How often will you need to update it?
Other Thoughts: Great idea but poor implementation. The marketplace will decide if it is good enough.

Not too bad
Pros: Controlls everything I have. Works well with my DVR, DVD, VHS, reveiver, etc. Appears that logitech is updating BIOS and software all the time, and adding support for new devices very quickly. Newegg has the best price anywhere, and delivered it to my door in 3 days.
Cons: A little hard to program the 6 buttons around the LCD display. No real way to tell which button is which until you program it. The software crashed my PC via BSD twice while updating the remote. The BSD crashes are the reason for the somewhat lower rating.

Beware of Software
Pros: I sounds like something I would really like to use, but I never got it installed- see the cons.
Cons: The logitech software automatically installs into your startup folder so it runs all the time whenever you turn on your computer, which is unnecessary as you will not be configuring your remote every day. You also need to reduce your security settings (if they have been configured for reasonable security) to use a browser, but the software does not tell you what it is installing. The could be ne innocuous cookies, tracking cookies, spyware, a rootkit etc. You have no way of knowing in advance. Ny Webroot Spyware program picked this up. I bought a 659 remote (although I was told that the following applies to your other models as well). Logitech support told me that there was no way to use the software manually (it will only connect automatically) and that I didn't have to accept the agreement. However, if you don't agree you can't use it. They don't mention this anywhere in there literature so you won't know until you buy. They have refused to allow me to return it to them for refund.
Other Thoughts: While Logitech may have a great product (from what I hear) one has to weigh the security risks to your computer. While their tech people (who were very polite) will assure you that there is nothing to worry about, they are probably paid to say this and are unlikely to even know if any information is being gathered from you. If they were doing nothing unreasonable, why must the software install so it is always running in the background? At best, this will only slow down your computer and use memory. Remember the SONY scandal.

Impressive
Pros: Controls even lesser known components of my entertainment system, firmware upgradable, Internet setup, good tactile keys, on-remote Help button very helpful, great price for such a powerful remote, ever entertainment system should definitely have a Harmony remote
Cons: On-remote display isn't very informative, scrolling through device functions could be more intuitive
Other Thoughts: I am sure buying a more expensive model of Logitech Harmony would remove the cons mentioned. For the price, I am very happy with this remote. I am still building my home entertainment system- so far I have a Panasonic tau HDTV, Pioneer HDTV receiver from TWC, Momitsu V-880N DVD player and Sony AV receiver with 5.1ch speakers. I spent around 15mins programming the remote initially, then 15mins changing some of the TV input options (I had initially put in the wrong order of inputs for my TV because of which I couldn't get the right input on switching from 'Watch TV' to 'Watch a movie'. Now its fine). I think internet setup is a big positive feature of this remote. I had a cheaper universal remote earlier where you had to manually feed in the codes for everything- it was a nightmare! My technophobe girlfriend can use the Harmony remote effortlessly. The 676 has essentially the same functions as the 659, except for 'Next' and 'Previous' buttons but squishy buttons.

Excellent - Buying a second one
Pros: Can do pretty much anything.
Cons: The web site is geared for general public and not so much for the tech savy, but I guess I can't fault them too much for that.
Other Thoughts: The one device of mine that offered a bit of a challenge was my Prismiq media player. It kept jumping around on the menu as if I were pressing the cursor keys multiple times. It took a few calls but their second level tech support was very good and corrected my problem by hacking the XML setup file. It is true that it doesn't know when devices are on or off, but that is quite normal for any remote that offers macro functionality. There is no way for it to know when a device is on or off.

Knows which components are on
Comments: The review below is wrong about the Harmony not knowing which components are on and off. The best feature of all Harmony remotes are they know exactly which components are on and what needs to be turned on and off when you switch to a different "activity".
For example if everything is turned off and I press "Watch TV". My tv turns on, my preamp turns on and changes to the "VIDEO 1" input and the Satellite receivers turns on. Now if I decide to watch a DVD I press "Watch a Movie". The DVD player turns on, the preamp swiches to the DVD input and the satellite receiver turns off since it is no longer needed. (In my case the video switching is handled through the preamp so changing the TV input is not necessary. If it was the Harmony would send that command as well). The Harmony knows the TV and preamp are already on so it does not send the signal to turn them on. When I am done watch the movie and press "Off" the tv, preamp and DVD player will turn off and no other power commands will be sent since the Harmony knows they are the only ones currently on. If it does get out of sync (a power command was not received by the component, etc) you can use the "Help" button to answer a quick series of Yes/No questions to get everything in sync again.
I currenly have two 659's that I have owned for well over a year, and I can tell you for ease of operation they are the best remotes available. I had tried several other well regarded remotes that are fully programable and the Harmony is the only one that is easy for the entire family to use. No more calls at work to find out how to watch a movie.

Works but!!!!
Comments: The macros are excellent. But that is it. It is a pain if a device is on already, say you turned it on manually, sat down later and decided to watch a movie. Hit the macro and the TV will shut off and others will turn on. I understand the remote does know whether or not the TV is already on. It is not cutomizable beyond what the web site allows. It is a pain to use to change settings as in my reciever. Some options require me to select an option then scroll around till I find proper command to change said option. For a device with PC connectivity I am disapointed at the lack of customabilty. Also save yourself a step, go to Logitechs website and download and install newest version of software before doing anything, if not, it will ask you to uninstall and reinstall new version during set up. Shipping was fast and arrived safely.

Don't Think Twice - Buy It.
Comments: What can I say? Buy it - I wish I had done so years ago. Now the whole family knows how to operate my home theatre system by pressing one button. Simple setup, easily changed to accommodate new components. Logitech has a winner on its hands.
And newegg - why would you even consider buying stuff anywhere else? NewEgg simply rocks. Period.

Someone finally did it!
Comments: I can't tell you how much money I've spent on "universal" remotes that were going to solve the multiple device RC problem. I've even tried using all the same brand entertainment components. The Lxxxxxxh H659 does all I wanted it to do and more. It's a simple set-up but take your time and read the screen. Also, make sure you have identified each component model correctly. I misidentified my Toshiba TV because I was too lazy to crawl behind it and that mistake cost me a couple of hours finding the bug. There is a built in help feature that actually FIXES problems if they occur - all you have to do is tell it yes or no when it asks if the problem has been solved. The price is right and the list of devices it will control is so long I don't think it's likely anyone will have a problem with compatability, and I'm including all those extra functions that most URC's don't even attempt to incorporate. I don't know how durable it is, but I'd still be happy if I had to replace it once a year.

Comments: Got this for my wife who had quite a hard time just watching TV with the setup I have. Went through the web based setup without any problems and tested it by turning on the TV. Great, no problems. I then tried to play a DVD but the TV would not turn on. I went to the web and reconfigured everything I could but it still wouldn't work. So, I thought I'd give tech support a try. To my amazement I was speaking to a human within 15 seconds and he diagnosed my problem immediately. I had my TV elec cord pluged into the cablebox. That's why it would turn on the TV when watching cable but not turn it on when I wanted to watch a DVD. I think Logitechs tech support is GREAT. Run, don't walk to get yourself one of these remotes!

It really works!
Comments: Thinking about buying this remote? DO IT! NOW! In fact, if it weren't for the steep price, every household in the world that has a televison, a satellite receiver and a DVD player would own this remote! It really does work as well as advertised. Every piece of audio and video gear I have fired up the first time I used the remote.
The only downside is that I wish the website was just a bit easier to navigate - it is just a bit cumbersome when trying to figure out how to revise some of the settings.
Other than that, I can highly recommend this remote for anyone tired of either having 10 remotes sitting around or using a universal remote and having to figure out how to change the channel without messing up a setting on another piece of equipment.

made a great gift
Comments: I gave this remote as a gift and its made me want to replace my own universal remote with it. backlit keys(better than glow in the dark), interactive menu (in case the remote doesnt have a command you want) and ease of programming makes this a winner in my book. oh and the excellent price doesn't hurt either!

Does exactly what it says it will
Comments: This is the first piece of electronics that does exacty what it is supposed to do. and if it does fail it asks you if it worked and will fix itself. I've been using this remote for well over a year and paid double what Newegg is asking and I'm still happy.

Best Remote In Industry!
Comments: My wife ORDERED me to buy this remote! This is the easiest and only remote I've ever found to totally eliminate all the other remotes required to run my home theater and music system. One button to watch t.v.... one button to watch a DVD... one button to play stereo. Could not be easier to setup via it's web interface! Website has every piece of equipment I own, including a brand new HDTV PVR from my cable company! Get this one for your wife!

Comments: Awsome remote, simple to set up. I have tried other universal remotes in the past and they just don't come close to the simplicity of this Harmony remote. Plus, the overall shape and feel of it is similar to my TiVO remote so there was little i had to do to get used to it.

simple, smart, and programmable.
Comments: The options for setting up the remote are quite flexible, and very straight forward. Once setup, it works great with all my devices. Click on "Watch a Movie" button... turns dvd player on, turns stereo on, changes stereo input, turns the TV on, changes the input. Once you change to a different option, like "Watch TV", it turns my stereo off and my DVD player. The really great thing is the ability to tweak the options after you configure them. What a great replacement for my aging worn out remotes. Plus there's great support for a huge range of devices.
