Rating + 5 Perfect for XBMC

Pros: This remote, along with most you find out there, is designed to work with Windows Media Center Edition. I was looking for something to be used with XBMC. Most of the functions on the remote work with XBMC right out of the box. For those that don't, you can use the "gyration" mouse control along with XBMCs "On Screen Display" and manuver around just fine. Installation is a snap. Just plug into your PC and Windows will find and install the drivers automatically. Range is incredible. Will work from long distances, through walls, etc. Remote has a nice solid feel to it. Not chincy like some. Highly recommended.

Cons: None really

Rating + 5 Great remote

Pros: Really solid remote, air mouse feature is really useful
Works out of the box with media center, IR devices are easy to program

Cons: One design flaw - Punch through volume doesnt work right, needs punch through power for TV (why would I want to turn off my MPC?)

Other Thoughts: I buy from newegg all the time but this is the first time I've reviewed a product - the quality of the remote and usefulness of the mouse feature surprised me.

Rating + 5 Excellent!

Pros: This remote is a perfect addition to the HTPC. It tracks extremely well, though you will want to replace the batteries it comes with almost immediately. The list of compatible devices is small, BUT you can program any button with the IR receiver on the bottom of the remote.

I suggest you use EVENTGHOST to map this device to your applications. You will need to select the first and last HID driver when setting it up in order to get all of the buttons including the green windows button. But every button works after that (except the hard coded buttons).

Personally I think this device is amazing, and I am surprised by its quality and impressed with its functionality.

Cons: Batteries it comes with are not good. You will also need to mount the RF receiver in clear LOS of the remote.

Other Thoughts: You can find the keyboard combo that goes with this for about 90 bucks.

Rating + 3 Less amazing than first thought

Pros: See my previous review for Pros... this follow-up is all about the cons. I gave this review 3 stars to make a 4 star average. It's a great product, with some shortcomings. Given that it appears to be a one-of-a-kind product, it's not too bad. Hopefully Gyration has improved the IR remote firmware in the new GYR4101.
On the upside, the PC remote and air mouse parts of the product have continued to impress.

Cons: Like the other reviewers here who had trouble with programming their Onkyo remote codes, I have had no success with my Denon AV receiver. The only pre-programmed remote code that worked at all (out of over 20 for denon!) didn't operate the volume or mute which were the only ones I really cared about. I switched into learning mode then, and no luck there either. It wouldn't learn the mute command at all, and while it claimed it learned the volume buttons, they didn't work after programming. I've never had any other learning remote fail to learn my Denon's codes.

Other Thoughts: Weak IR transmitter: while I was able to program it to operate my RCA DirecTiVo no problem, I really have to carefully aim the remote at the TiVo to make it work from 10 feet away. The original TiVo remote works fine no matter where I point it, no matter how far away I am (within reason, of course).

Rating + 5 Amazing

Pros: Wow, this thing is amazing. I admit I have never used an 'air mouse' before (nor similar devices like the wiimote), but for me the wow factor is just stunning. You plug in the receiver, hit 'connect' on both, and it just works! Move the remote, and the mouse cursor moves exactly the way you think it will. At first use out of the box the mouse pointer tended to drift up when the remote was motionless, but after I left it alone for a little while it seemed to calibrate itself.

Cons: The only con I can see is compared to some other learning remotes, it doesn't have Macros. My current remote turns on both my TV and my Amp with one button... but I'll gladly trade that for the mouse cursor control. (I'll try tricking it by having it learn the macro from the other remote, but I bet it won't work)

Other Thoughts: This is to be the remote for my (as yet unbuilt) HTPC, but in the interim the mouse control function will be used to facilitate watching shows from HULU on my TV. Since it will replace my current TiVo remote today, the future switch to an HTPC while keeping the same remote will hopefully lead to wife approval.

Rating + 4 great remote

Pros: Great remote. Easy to configure, works with all my equipment. Got it mostly for the mouse and love it.

Cons: After a year the mouse sensor chip died. Called the vendor and they offered a replacement. But by that time I got my new remote from newegg.

Rating + 4 Perfect Home Theater Remote

Pros: Media Center specific buttons, Regular DVD style playback buttons that work in PowerDVD, Learning Remote to control other non-hdcp components like your TV and Receiver and full mouse control for those application that don't work with the buttons. Another Pro is it's radio frequency control for your Home Theater PC so you don't need line of site.

Cons: Most expensive Home Theater PC remote I looked at

Other Thoughts: The problem with 'Media Center' remotes is they mostly only work with the Microsoft media center application. The solution would be an air mouse or presenter mouse or a media center remote with a trackball so you can mouse control apps that don't work with the buttons. Those however require you to have additional remotes to control your other A/V components. This was the only remote i found that did A) Media Center functions B) Air Mouse style controls C) was a regular learning Universal Remote Control to control other devices. This is a one of a kind remote, i looked at a lot and this was the only solution i could find that met my requirements for my Home Theater PC. One thing though is that the Radio is 2.5ghz and most people would be running WiFi to their HDPC i imagine, 2.5ghz is the standard WiFI frequency too. So you might want to consider a 5ghz WiFi router and card if you deem this to be a problem. I haven't done any hard core testing but so far i haven't had any problem

Rating + 4 All the Features You Need In a Media Center SETUP

Pros: Gryoscopic mouse used similar to a WII controller. The RF Feature Especially Great for using through walls. Ideal for a Media Center System with MULTI-WIRELESS DVI/HDMI Outputs to watch other rooms. (eg. Bedroom witgh PC in Livingrom) Can program all the peripherals usually associated with a Home media Center Buid. (Audio System, DVR or Cable Box) TV. Convenient to have one remote to controll em all.

Cons: The Reason it get's a 4 STAR is for the follwing reason.
There is no way to disable the VOLUME PUNCH THROUGH Feature. What I mean by this, is that this feature is supposed to make it convenient to allow the user to turn the volume up and down or mute in on a device like the TV or audio system (which ever was accessed last) without having to change the mode. This feature is a HUGE burden considering I use my Reciever to use audio in 5.1 (COAX) Surround Sound and the remote defaults to the TV VOLUME. it's not how I want it to work.

Other Thoughts: NOTE: THIS Product DOES also some with a USB (I think 6FT) Extention Cable and an RF Reciever to PLUG in. It does not come with any drivers you will need to download the Media Center Remote Plugin from Gyrations WEBSITE. The Picture does not show all the contents in the box.

THIS remote could have been better if they allowed programming updates through software similar to the Logitech Harmony. I own a Harmony and was rather Disapointed at the fact it DID not come with a USB RF transmitter and anyway to use it on a PC.

Rating + 4 Pretty Decent

Pros: it has all the features I need. Runs Vista Media Center on my HTPC, Operates my Sammy HL-T6187S, My Comcrooks HD DVR Box, and my Onkyo TX-SR505 (see below. The mousing feature is really nice for browsing the internet and such. Great RF Range.

Cons: While the remote has a nice feel to it, the directional buttons sometimes get stuck in the down position due to the edge of the button getting caught on the recessed edge of the remote. Also, while I was able to program all the functionality I needed from my cable DVR remote (a lot of buttons), none of the Onkyo codes seemed to work correctly. I was only able to get the numerical buttons to work for switching inputs and the channel buttons for adjusting volume.

Other Thoughts: Other than the receiver programming issue, it is fully functional. I bought this on sale at a brick and mortar. They were late getting my stuff to me so I took advantage of their 24-dollar certificate and 10% off coupon and got the Gyration Compact keyboard which works great as well (came with a free "air mouse"... works better than this remote for a mouse substitute)

Rating + 4 Great mouse replacement

Pros: The gyro feature/mouse emlation works very well. Good build quality. Felt as well built as my Harmony universal remote.

Cons: Directional keys for MCE are a tad small. The remote is square - not the most ergonomic.

Other Thoughts: The pointer feature of the remote works very well. It is accurate as a mouse and is faster than using my BTC remote keyboardmouse combo. The only major drawback was the fact that the directional keys for the MCE function were a bit too small.

Rating + 5 Awesome Remote

Pros: Uses RF rather than IR, so your computer can be located in another room (especially nice if you've got jet-engine-like fans cooling your machine. Integrated gyroscopic mouse makes the manipulation of windows VERY easy.

Cons: Didn't come with software, so if you're using something other than MCE, might be a chore programming all of the buttons. Also, the controller almost has too many buttons, but is that really a problem?

Other Thoughts: This was the perfect solution for my situation. I've got one central machine that controls the video feed to three seperate TVs throughout my house. With this remote, I can control SageTV from anyroom, and all with one PC.

Rating + 5 MCE REMOTE ON STEROIDS

Pros: what can I say everything the MCE OEM remote should be. No line of sight required for command selection and can easily program all device codes necessary and no more running to get the mouse for simple config. Brings all together nicely.

Cons: None as of yet.

Other Thoughts: A Message to NoOption reviewer last channel command is OK button, OK! So surf away and you can thank my daughter for that little discovery. She's sooooo smart.

Rating + 5 Best Media Center Remote

Pros: This remote has everything you could ask for in a media center compliant remote. Very responsive and flawless in Media Center. Also works great with other apps, such as WMP (all without having to use the mouse feature to click buttons). The mouse is super easy to use and lets me check email, watch YouTube videos, and surf the web from my couch. This remote has let my HTPC live up to its full potential.

Cons: As with the Microsoft MCE remote, there is no "last channel" button. Makes it some what more difficult to flip between channels.

Other Thoughts: The RF range seems to be great. I walk around my entire appartment and into different rooms, and can always control my computer.

Rating + 5 Great Media Center Remote

Pros: Great remote for Vista media center. I moved my system to a remote location and could no longer use my IR remotes. I orginally got a Keyspan RF remote. It worked lousy, until the kids dropped it, not it doesn't work at all. I got the Gyration and it is a beautiful thing. I really use it more as a media center remote, but I found the ability to use it as a mouse to work very well.

Cons: Could not get it to progam my older Onkyo receiver volume. The media center OK button is a little small, as are the arrow buttons around it.

Other Thoughts: Love the shortcut buttons to things like Music, Pictures and Videos. If only I could get the Videos to go to mymovies instead.
