Exceeds expectations
Pros: - Auto speaker calibration with included microphone - Underestimated lows and highs - Though passive, the sub woofer never leaves me wanting. It even includes optional rubber feet. - Graciously long speaker wiring for rear speakers. My dreaded fear of running short in my 50' wide x45' deep living room was dissolved. And yes, I have excess length, which assures me of any future speaker configurations. - Color coded speaker plugs. They may be proprietary, but just reuse the plugs...
Cons: - The receiver doesn't allow enough time to lower the volume during power up in case it was already set to being loud. In other words, if your receiver is set to TV and you're currently watching a program, expect a short period of undesirable loudness when you're scrambling to lower the volume.
Other Thoughts: The reason why Newegg offers free shipping on this is because they'll use the box itself for shipping. I'm glad Sony packaged this well enough and that Newegg was smart to offer free shipping.
My first experience with this all-in-one was watching the movie Up, and the sound system delivers. Sometimes I instinctively react to the sound of someone knocking on the door or if the window shatters. Trust me, I'm no fool but my ears must be!
I'm not an audiophile, but neither do I expect miracles in obvious product limitations. If you want quality, then please customize your sound system with individual components.

Excellent System
Pros: Good size, its compact but not super compact. Good sound quality. The audio calibration feature works much quicker than it did on the older dvd models from a few years ago. Picture quality is excellent when paired with a good HDTV. This system also runs very cool. No issues whatsoever in an enclosed case.
Cons: The audio cables do have a proprietary connector on the end that connects to the system. Unfortunately these are not exactly the same between the older sony systems and the newer ones so you do have to replace the entire cable.
Other Thoughts: Make sure to get your HDMI cable here.

Ignore the first review
Pros: + deep, rich sound + immersive (much more so than if you had two stereo speakers in the front and a second pair in the rear without DolbyHD,dts capability) + blu-ray player that plays every movie I've tested (dozens) from Netflix + long speaker wire adequate for large rooms
Cons: - wire gauge/shielding is not as robust as it could be - price high
Other Thoughts: Another reviewer gave this system one star because it lacks an S-air (wireless) speaker, but the specs are very clear that this is a separate option, sold separately. Reviewing the product according to specification, this is a kick -ss awesome set. Not the loudest set, nor most thunderous base I have ever heard, but probably the clearest and cleanest rich sound I have ever heard. Price is a little high, but I received this set -free- with the purchase of a Sony LCD TV from US Appliance, and Amzn has a similar promotion, perhaps Newegg will follow suit. thanks for reading mho, daniel

S-Air cartridge not included
Pros: compact, looks nice.
Cons: 1. "S-Air ready" apparently means "you have spend another $50 to use S-Air." See below. 2. speaker inputs are sony plugs.
Other Thoughts: Beware….S-Air wireless cartridge EZW-T100 not included in BDV-E300; sold separately. I only found out after receiving box. Add another $50 if you plan to use S-Air.
