HP-20U and others in this line
Pros: Jack, not a single pro to be had.
Cons: One year and nine months of owning the units and I've had nothing but pain and displeasing bouts with the Sharp BD player.
Customer Service for those of us in "Sharps Aquos Advantage Club" was fast about offering a paid air-bill to I could ship this back to them when I was hit by the " Incompatible Disk" Errors with every BD movie and DVD I played even Audio CD. changed out the drive and not much changed, some movies would play but others would lock up or crash or simply just not even load. once repaired status became "refurbished" and thus lost all hopes of getting anything repaired even know at the time I had another six months on my service plan,
Note to any SHARP reps reading: don't be offering to help, cause as of right now, the device is sitting in a pile of screws and cables as I had to rip the thing apart to recover my Snow White Blu-ray which is now chipped thanks to the assembly snagging it and not letting it go, tray would open but disk stayed stuck in side.
Other Thoughts: Useless even for parts.
BD-RE Drive is recognized by Windows 7 even installs drives for it, (recognized as the SHARP BD-HR2 PATA device) tray will eject via right click but once disk is in, won't read and computer crashes.
so once more device is not even worth the parts it's made of.

This player is a piece of trash
Pros: It's a cheap player
Cons: It won't play Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs or half the new Blu-Ray on the market. Sharp says they need to make a firmware upgrade and has been extreemely slow to do so.
Other Thoughts: Find something else in the same price range. Sharp has hands down some of the best displays on the market and has had so for some time. On the player side, it looks that all of their Blu-Ray players are lemmons...

Sharp Blu-ray, avoid them!
Pros: None.
Cons: I have a BD-HP20 and have had nothing but problems. It has been back to Sharp once when it just quit working 9 months into ownership. The firmware revisions often created as many problems as they cured, if they cured anything. Now I see that they dropped all firmware for this unit. They must believe that the unhappy owners will just go away if they erase traces of this players existence.
Its a pot-luck when I buy a new DVD. Chances of it playing on this device are terrible. Gran Torino was my last DVD purchase and it never played even after spending loads of time on the phone with Sharp trying everything they could think of. The final word from them was that they could not fix it. That's it! It is now past warranty.
Newegg has ALWAYS been great to deal with; don't take this as a bash on them. I am a loyal Newegg customer and don't see that changing.

Look elsewhere
Pros: It is Blu-Ray
Cons: High percentage of Blu-Ray discs stop playing 1:18 minutes into the movie. Took two titles to the store where I purchased the unit and they played fine on 3 other Blu-Ray players. This unit has very large numbers of negative reviews on multiple sites. Save yourself grief and get something else. ??What is up with having to apply firmware to a disc player so you can watch legal content???
Other Thoughts: Off to Sharp for warranty work. Purchased at other than newegg

Pros: It plays Blu-Rray discs which look and sound great.
Cons: Its so slow. Slow to start up, fast forward and to rewind. I even put a USB stick in the back as some recommend to speed up but did not notice any difference.

Frustratingly slow load times
Pros: Picture looks good for the price
Cons: Disc tray takes FOREVER to eject BluRay movies take FOREVER to load Takes FOREVER to power up and shut down
Other Thoughts: I guess I can't complain since I got it for free with the purchase of a Sharp 52" LCD. Had I spent anything over $99.99 I'd be pretty upset. The load times are absolutely the worse I've ever experienced. You can insert the BluRay disc and head to the kitchen to pour yourself a drink and by the time you come back you might get lucky and see the main BluRay disc menu.

Almost Perfect
Pros: Plays Blu-Rays, DVD's, and looks good doin it. I also think that it's relatively inexpensive for what you get. Looks great through HDMI. I have no idea why the included cable is not even component...
Cons: Takes forever to load a disc. I had read some other reviews (not just from Newegg) about the disc never loading. I thought that to be true, until I found that it popped up a loading screen 5 minutes later. Also, there's not a lot of features and it won't connect to the internet.
Other Thoughts: Once you update the firmware, it works perfectly. btw, updating the firmware is very easy. Download it to usb drive > plug usb drive into player > select "update firmware". All in all, it's a very good BD player for it's price. The bad reviews are just from people that want it to make them a cheeseburger...

AWSOME Player 100%
Pros: Picture is out of this world.I cant express enough how awsome the picture is,I fell like Im there in the movies. 1080p up convertion better than my 1080i upconverter.sound is awsome.I bought this for movies so i never tried the picture viewing(jpeg player)Setup was easy. a little loading wait time. 45sec. or so, seems to have a small wait time between loading previews and then loading movie ,but big deal everyone i ask and from what i read online about other models is all blu-ray players have a bit of wait time. And its worth it. Also, I read alot of reviews all over the internet and i was worried about this model by sharp hp21u and ready to return it but BOOM, kinda felt like i won the lottery once i turned it on.WOW WOW WOW WORTH IT..............
Cons: no con's.
Other Thoughts: Made connections, HDMI to tv and optical digital to my 5.1 surround,Loaded firmware from sharp (pn9022700) first. then left usb 2gb flashdrive in back turned on and No problems.Very simple to setup.Manual is 100% in info needed.NOTE about audio i chose second audio as digital and it converted output to tv to pcm(2ch).PERFECT,now i dont get the incompatible audio error from my tv like befor cause my older player would not send seperate signals..The wait time was next to nothing. But I asked all i know and everyone with different players have wait time. The players have to load info from the disc to give the awsome picture. ***A little info for you readers. i went out and rented narnia prince caspian,007 solice, dark knight and had no problems with playback or loading. These are the ones everyones complaining about. They even had scratches in them. And the older release i watched was lethal weapon no problem there

Not as Bad as All That
Pros: Excellent Delivery - Wednesday order- Friday Delivery Fabulous image on AQUOS 46" LCD TV once Software bug fixed Pretty good instrux from Mfr's website Newegg Reviews Great help in getting unit to work.
Cons: * No HDMI cable with unit (only Component Cables-R-Y-B). * Shipped with inoperative Old Software (Mfrs Fault)
Other Thoughts: Remains to be seen if remotes can be easily consolidated on Satellite R/C. Software CAN however be downloaded to a SANDISK thumbdisk IF it is put through the FORMAT step prior to downloading. With so many reviews panning this unit, I feel that perhaps NEWEGG might furnish instrux for loading new software , It (mine) is NOT a bad unit. I spent a few hours futzing with the device options and wiring before finally hitting the right combination - which was new software driver. If the user is informed before purchase, he/she can avoid some unnecessary hassle. I hope this is the info to make the unit usable.

Junk
Pros: Pretty
Cons: Placed a BluRay in player and it "Read Disc" forever finally saying it was incompatible, spitting it out. I cleaned the disc and tried again. It did this several times. I turned it off and tried again. I unplugged it and tried again. Finally it decided to "work" if you can call it working. Eventually it showed us like 10 minutes of previews. Then it seemed to hang up. We waited a long time because there was a message at the beginning saying it could take a while to load, ironically, this message only appeared for a short time. Then some squares appeared and it looked like it was loading, but it was really laughing at us. Finally, it stopped and stayed that way for a long time. Eventually we just gave up on it.
But hey! The previews looked really good.
What a piece of crapola.
Can I return a product that came free with something else?

Not going to Hi-Def DVD anytime soon
Pros: Picture quality was great when it worked.
Cons: Ultra slow load times. Took forever to get a disc to play. I get my Blu-Rays from Netflix and out of 10 or so that I got before I returned this player, 1/3 of them did not play and looking at the disc, it looked perfectly fine, no blemishes or scratches.

Dont cheap out on this player
Pros: Its cheap.
Cons: Slow load times, boot up times, & overall performance. Major compatability issues. Horrible support. Will not eject incompatible titles.
Other Thoughts: spend the extra $50 or a 2.0 fully compatible player. This machine will cause you headaches from day one until you break it (I did whn I spent 45 mins trying to eject a movie). Not ony that, but for $50 more you can get a player that, has networking capability, does Netflix, and Pandora or Vierracast. Avoid at all costs.

Sharp is sharp
Pros: Excellent picture Not terribly complex remote Menu features are fairly simply
Cons: Slow load times, but as a new user to the BD market, I'm finding the all are at the moment.
Other Thoughts: Bought to go with my new Aquos TV and dang have I been missing out. The picture is so good I realized I needed new glasses. I've been a fan of Sharp for many MANY years and have never been let down.

Sharp 21
Pros: Picture looks nice, bootup time is not bad.
Cons: So far even with upgraded software 2 out of 6 bluerays dont play or lock up. Im not impressed. Either that or they have a ways to catch up to ps3, my friend never has a issue and his is linked to his internet..
Other Thoughts: Wait til they work the bugs out of these things..

No Problems So Far
Pros: Played Quantum Of Solace and Black Hawk Down with no problems. USB 1G stick seems to have improved loading time for Blu Ray.
Cons: It came with a Black Red Yellow cable. Sharp must have been trying to get rid of these old cables. :)
Other Thoughts: I updated the BIOS before any movie tests. $199.99 and free shipping lured me in. So far I am glad I was lured. I had a 1G stick free from some seminar. Plug a USB 2.0 stick into the back of the player. In my limited testing it seemed to speed up load times equivalent to the PS3.

Wait for the BD-HP22U
Pros: * Fast boot time * Resume disc playback after power off/on cycle (not many other players in this class do this) * Sleek piano black finish, really looks good standing alone * 1080p24 output (reduces amount of processing from source to display, but you need a display that can handle it)
Cons: - Firmware updates via USB key (Sandisk not compatible) - Not BD profile 2.0 compliant - No onboard decoders - No Ethernet jack - Need to get into setup menu to disable secondary audio in order to get HD audio (Dolby TrueHD, DTS-MA) - Not easily stackable or rack-mountable (need equipment on top to be recessed 2" or so)
Other Thoughts: I would wait for the next gen. BD-HP22U or Sony BDP-S350 so that you can have Ethernet (BD Live & easy firmware updates) and be profile 2.0 compliant. I'm not big on special features on DVDs, so I didn't think I would miss this feature. But after using it for awhile now, I do miss it with Blu Ray. The interactive content can be really cool and add depth to your experience.

Great Blue ray play
Pros: Was easy to setup and use since I have AQUOS LCD. Sleek looking and not too heavy when compared to the Sony. I can now use just one remote for both blue ray and TV.
Cons: Loads slowly
Other Thoughts: I am not sure if its just me but are all Blue ray players really slow ?

Pros: Very simple set up with HDMI cable on Aquos LCD. Great picture.
Cons: This is my first Blueray player but it seems to load slow.

Well Made Player
Pros: Attractive player. Came with the updated firmware. No problems playing any disc I've rented or purchased. Easy set-up. Mates well with my Aquos hdtv. No longer need 2 remotes. Excellent manual.
Cons: I havent found any yet.
Other Thoughts: Player is NOT big and bulky. Its the same size as 95% of the players on the market. As far as load times, its no slower than my neighbors Pioneer or my sons Samsung. Put a 1 or 2gb flash drive in the rear port and the load time will be less on some discs. READ the manual!!!. The player is manufactured with Sharp OEM parts including the laser. Not cheap Chinese non-oem parts.

Cons: A little slow on the load for a blu-ray disc....but worth the wait.
Other Thoughts: Be nice if it came in silver.

Meh
Pros: Great picture and sound.
Cons: Slow. Takes about 15-20 seconds to load the top menu for The Dark Knight on Blu Ray. Also can be a bit unresponsive to the remote while it's loading, pausing, etc.
Massive. Make sure you have a fairly deep spot to put this thing.
Comes with AV cables. (Seriously?! AV cables?!) Do yourself a favor and pick up an HDMI cable if you order this. I went out and bought a Component Video cable, but you can only do 1080i (not 1080p) with that.
Other Thoughts: Seems like a very typical early generation player, just like the early generation DVD players. Big, slow, bulky, but gets the job done. I'm sure as the technology becomes more popular things will improve.
