Rating + 4 Aluratek Wifi Radio

Pros: - Great connectivity - Connects by wifi to internet radio, to your mp3 files on a PC (as long as you have WMP11 or Windows Media Connect installed), or to files on a USB key or HDD.
- Rarely drops wifi connection, but you have to update firmware to latest version to get the best wifi reception
- Upgradable with new firmwares through USB port
- Can plug in stereo speakers through RCA jacks at the back of the radio.
- User-friendly interface, easy to set-up and navigate
- Has a remote control, which is very useful.

Cons: - Browsing through large collections on a media server takes a while. For example, on a 3000 music folders collection, browsing to folders that start with a certain letter may take up to a minute.
- Setting an alarm source may be a bit confusing. For example, choosing an internet radio station for alarm plays the station, instead of just showing you your choice.
- Sound is not very loud, even at maximum level, but that might be considered a plus!!

Other Thoughts: Definately an amazing buy for the price. Would recommend it anytime, provided you make the firmware update.

Rating + 2 Aluratek

Pros: Great sound for a generic speaker. Lots of input options. More radio station than you'll know what to do with. Scanner freqs are fun too.

Cons: Very bright backlight.

Buggy code. Get the latest firmware asap (5/09 I think).
The interface is not really that intuitive. Don't give it to grandma unless you are going to set it up and use it for her.
I need to reset frequently.

Other Thoughts: If you fine the screen locking up/freezing (needs an unplug/plug). Delete you favorites. Sometimes that works.
This isn't really stable. Be prepared to dink with it. They need new firmware.

Rating + 4 Acceptable value, could be improved

Pros: If it weren't for this radio, I would not have bothered to explore internet stations from Bharat & Europe (newegg review page doesn't allow me to use the more common 5 letter country name for Bharat, hint Ind*a :-). Sound quality is very good, Aluratek.vtuner.com allows you to explore stations and program your favorite stations online. Thereby overcoming the limitations of the remote. You can create your favorites on the website, logout, power cycle the unit and wallah, your favorites are available for choosing. I feel the hardware is well designed, but the firmware is buggy & needs to be improved.

Cons: The shipping firmware is buggy, the update available from Aluratek's site improved things. Entering the WPA key is a pain since you have to cycle thru alphabet using 0-9 buttons on the remote. If at all possible, use the wired ethernet interface. If wired is not an option, change your wireless network to unencrypted with MAC address filtering. We were able to get it working on wireless w/ WPA-PSK, but there are too many access points around us these days and at times, even our laptops have trouble connecting to our WRT54GL AP (w/ Tomato f/w) just 10 feet away, so I really can't blame this device operating 75-100 ft away in our bedroom. We switched to wired and it hasn't blinked once, another family member is using a different unit in wireless mode on an unencrypted connection and doing fine so far.

Other Thoughts: Device user interface & Aluratek.vtuner.com website interface could be a lot better. I am hoping the developers that worked on DD-WRT & Tomato firmware for WRT54GL will develop firmware for this Aluratek device since it can also function as an AP. With the right firmware, perhaps they can turn this device into - A Broadband router + Internet Radio + Wifi AP + Alarm-Clock + FM Radio + Media player.

Rating + 5 Excellent radio

Pros: Connecting to a wireless router was quick and easy. Surprisingly good sound quality from the speaker. The ability to play MP3's from a USB drive is a great feature other internet radios don't have. So far I have not seen any signal drops that were caused by the radio (I monitored the radio streams with a desktop computer at the same time)

Cons: When I attempted to remove a station from the favorites list while listening to the station, the radio lockup up and had to be reset with the rear power switch. I found the successful way to remove a station is to highlight it in the favorites list without listening to it.

The display defaults back to clock after a few seconds. There should be an option to keep the radio or MP3 display on.

When searching for an American station, you have to know which state the station originates from before you can search by call letters. I found it easier to search from the vtuner website. (This isn't a problem with other countries, as their stations are not divided by states/provinces/etc.)

Other Thoughts: Some people have stated the radio does not return to the last station listened when turning on the radio. However, my radio does indeed return to the last station. I have firmware 1.17 on the radio, and have not tried to update it.

Rating + 4 Best Clock Radio ever Invented

Pros: Okay I bought this as a clock radio for my son. I must say that for a clock radio this is the coolest device ever invented. Unlike some of the other reviews, I was setup and connected to the internet stations in less than 5 minutes. The FM stations came in clear for me as well. I also installed the Microsoft Media Connect on my primary computer and had the clock radio playing all my MP3's. I found the interface and remote easy to use once I got the hang of it. The alarm clock portion of the radio had many options and seems to be everything I could ever need. I thought the sound was great also, especially coming from a clock radio. Once I got the timezone right, the clock autosyncd pefectly... that's cool.

Cons: I did have one problem that I haven't resolved. Granted I have a ticket open with Support, but no resolution yet. The problem is with a Sansa C200 player. The radio does not recognize the mp3's on the device. When I switch to MP3 mode it just says the DEVICE BUSY. It is connected because I see the MP3 player charging and showing USB connectivity. I tried my other IPOD player and it worked perfectly.

Other Thoughts: I love this clock radio and will probably be buying more because it is so cool. The problem I had with the MP3 player is insignificant given that I have all these other music options and I realize the player is a little old. I would have given it a perfect 5 eggs, but couldn't because of the small MP3 player issue.

Rating + 5 Great so far...

Pros: Got for Xmas. Worked right out of the box, with little knowledge necessary to get going other than my wireless key for my router had to be entered. Within 5 minutes I was listening to internet radio.

Cons: I've been playing it nonstop thru-out the house for days at a time, I have had the occaisonal drop in signal, but the signal picked itself backup a few mere seconds later. This has happened only 5 times or so and may not be an issue of the radio rather than my ISP or router.

Other Thoughts: The menus are a little cumbersome as you have to navigate and see all the different countries listed initially, however, I am willing to bet the menus are customizable to a degree...dunno, I will have to play with it some more. There is a web portal that you can add stations to the unit, but it already gets over 16,000+ stations....the only cool thing would be slacker or pandora but I am thinking that is an impossibility. Still, I would recommend the product to others.

Rating + 4 Would recommend

Pros: Easy setup for the average person. I have read that the wireless signal is bad on some other reviews and have to say I have NOT had any problems with signal in any aspect and mine is 50ft from source! while getting excellent signal with no loss. Sounds like some folks are having interference from other items maybe. Sound is acceptable, remember, this is a small radio with a single speaker and at this price, your NOT getting Bose. It does have descent sound for the money. Setup and connecting was easy and can be done by anyone even engineers!. Wish it had more imputs/outputs, but again it is a descent radio and I would buy another. I bought this for X'mas for my wife and she loves it. Didn't fire up the microwave and pee my pants or glow in the dark and experienced NO interference on radio which is 5ft away from eachother. I elevated it in my kitchen, which did help sound and I have 13 ft ceilings.

Cons: Two speakers you won't find on this unit, but the one is still ok for this kind of money, I paid $99.00 + free shipping.

Other Thoughts: I would buy another.

Rating + 1 yes..BUT!

Pros: bought from Newegg by my wife's boss for Christmas for her: i like the AP mode function it saves buying an AP device. sound is better than i thought it would be.

Cons: wireless? it has feeble sensitivity both the wifi and fm especially. unless your less than 20 ft. away from ap your out of luck. it does not have the billiards to talk back to the ap very well. first off you need to make sure the wifi antenna is correctly oriented.....viz: correctly polarized. if you don't and you are the only one on that ap you will be dropped out. do the firmware update but be aware that they call it driver. be sure you have a usb that is formatted fat (not fat32 or NTFS or Ext3)., look: if you plug into a computer your usb and it comes up as local and not removable your out of luck as well. i used a crucial drive to update which did it. the FM radio is Worthless...i really mean it. even with it set to high sensitivity it is the worst ever fm radio i have ever.....$0$ value. so do not count on fm radio use at any extent. i used to be a fm radio station engineer and i know something about it.

Other Thoughts: it would be best if you bought a nice client you can connect by wire to the unit and double as an AP> the directions are written such that they assume you have knowledge of how to install a Linux distro by command line. i got my wife's boss to order for Christmas for her.....wake up alarm. i usually let my wife do it but this was way over the top and luckily she is used to me trouble shooting Linux machines so she knew what "root access" stands for. for the pedestrian user i would stay far far away. their website is hopeless. i was going to make boombox for her with this she can take to work and listen instead of her Ubuntu installed Toshiba but this is not the one to do it with. i will probably build a Mybuntu internet radio for her and she can keep her boss happy by using the alarm clock to get to work on time. btw: i use average understanding now because i see everyone is an expert on these review pages when i can tell they are not.

Rating + 4 Solid internet radio

Pros: Very strong WiFi connection with a lot (100's maybe 1000") of internet radio stations broken down by country and/or genre. Connected to my WEP WiFi easily. Your setup may vary.

Cons: Backlight on lowest setting is still very bright in the dark so a bedroom may not work. (We use ours in our bedroom but not pointed towards the bed. Makes a great night light)
To use as a alarm clock radio requires a few more button pushes than would be expected from other clock radios.

Other Thoughts: Sound was a little disappointing. From looking at the speaker i was expecting more. There is a equalizer on the radio but have not found the setting that works for me. On par with other clock radios but do not expect "Wave" quality sound.
Make sure you keep track of the remote control it helps navigating the radio's settings immensely.

Rating + 5 Great deal!

Pros: Feature laden. Easy Wi-Fi set even with encryption. Simple and ergonomic control set up on unit. Comes with headphone and RCA audio outputs. Great selection of genres, even some Police and Fire Departments via the "Scanner" genre. Firmware update was easy and necessary. The LCD has three setting and is tolerable. Love the ability to wake to any audio source this unit plays. Once you figure out the alarm clock functions and how to set it, it is logical and moderately easy, albeit many steps. It does have two clock settings for his and hers. Also, you can tailor the alarm to come on at different times each day of the week, if desired.

Cons: Does not remember last station played. You must go thru the menu each time the unit is "turned on" to put your favorite station back on. Maybe a future firmware update will solve this (are you listening Tech department?). Some stations sound better than others, most likely due to variance of bitrates (it doesn't indicate what the bitrate for each station is).

Other Thoughts: Still learning all of the functions of this feature packed dynamo. I plan on giving it for Christmas and wanted to make sure it would not be too complicated for the person I'm giving it to. I may buy one for myself! The price has gone down and boy is it tempting. If you want an awesome "Toy" that has a decent functionality side, this is your ticket. Free internet radio and the ability to tap into your music files on the computers on your WiFi network without powering up another computer is what this offers. Plus, it can be used in any room of your house or office. Why pay for subscription music?

Rating + 1 Caveat Emptor / Buyer Beware

Pros: NewEgg's Customer Reviews, Pricing, Shipping, and Return Policies

My first Aluratek Internet Radio Alarm Clock purchase was with great expectations, despite reading the reviews. It seems to work as expected when directly connected by Ethernet. Vtuner's web site allows the setup and configuration of the Favorite's list. Other issues reported by others seemed to be minor.

Cons: NewEgg's packaging ........ virtually nonexistent, just a piece of paper thrown into the carton on top of the product's box inside the shipping carton. I thought that maybe because of the poor packaging, the radio was damaged in shipping, which is why I returned via RMA.

The wireless functionality isn't. It can't connect nor find the Access Point despite having initially recognized it's strong signal. It shouldn't be advertised as being a wireless product. However, I was able to once get it to wirelessly connect, being less than four feet away from my LinkSys WRT54G router, after a lot of re-trying, but when I moved it to the next room, it re-connected okay, but by morning, it had lost it's connection, and wouldn't reconnect.

For a product that's over-hyped by Aluratek, it's also overpriced given it's extremely poor performance.

I will never buy another Aluratek product again.

Other Thoughts: In future, I will be more guided by the NewEgg Customer Reviews instead of just "hoping for the best" despite the reviews.

Rating + 5 Great radio, but display is too BRIGHT

Pros: 1) Excellent Internet radio
2) Great FM reception
3) Easy to operate once you get used to it

Cons: !) Backlight is WAY too bright
2) Backlight color should be black, not blue. That would solve a lot of problems, OR we should be able to do a negative display from what we have now.
3) The backlight is so bright, that when you turn the backlight OFF, you can STILL see the light.
4) It's kinda hard to find what you want to listen to, but you get used to it.
5) Did I mention that the backlight display is way too BRIGHT??!?!?

Other Thoughts: It seems to me that a LOT of people are either complaining about the backlight, or returning the radio because of the backlight, or simply not buying it because of the bad reviews about the backlight, you'd think that Aluratek would update the firmware to solve the backlight problems.

Rating + 5 does what it says it will

Pros: I thought this might be a pain to set up but it wasn't...I was listening to a NY, NY. station ten minutes out of the box...easy to type in WPA password with the remote that's in the box; no brainer...easy to find stations anywhere in the world...bright screen turns off with touch of a button....didnt have to update firmware to use.....solid product with good fidelity

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: if you do a lot of traveling and stay in motels with wi-fi, the radio would be cool to have to keep in touch with home or the world....it's not so big that you couldn't throw it in a suitcase

Rating + 4 Aluratek AIRMM01F

Pros: Easy setup. No problem connecting to my wireless router connection and relatively quickly. Large selection of stations available. Had an issue and got a quick response from tech support.

Cons: Problem trying to use the VTuner program when trying to listen to stations on their web site. Turns out you must load RealAudio, which I did not want to do.

Other Thoughts: Only change I would like to see in the next firmware upgrade is that the radio turns on to the last station listened to. Now, you must select a station each time you turn the radio on.

Rating + 4 An update from previous feedback

Pros: This unit seems to be able to connect multiple APs with same SSID and WPA-PSK keys

After being disassembled, I found it ACTUALLY has 2 speakers, the left one is a pretty tiny one while the right is 30mm with enclosure, this can tell why it can make full sound

It should deserve 4.5 eggs, recommended.

Cons: I hope it can store more different SSID settings (perhaps it will, I didn't try it).

Other Thoughts: Here is how you can connect another AP nearby with same settings:

With the unit is turn on, simply unplug the AC adapter and plug it back on, it should scan for another AP nearby. If it doesn't work, simply unplug AC adapter and try again. I do this way to make it connect to 4 different APs all over the house with same SSID and WPA-PSK settings.

Rating + 3 Avoid it if you have mulitple secured wifi APs

Pros: very decent sound

can play mp3 and wma from USB finger or memory card with reader

supports WPA-PSK

can run on wired network (see other thoughts)

Cons: it can be pretty painful if you have multiple wifi networks with security settings at home

unable to load wifi settings/stations (.pls, .asx, .m3u, .ram) from file, requires to load stations from aluratek.vtuner.com

it claims it has 2x2 watts, but it doesn't (only has one speaker)

Other Thoughts: granted, it has LAN jack and I have powerline network in my home, due to wifi setup problem, I run it on powerline instead. if it can accept SSID instead of MAC address (I have multiple wifi APs with same SSID), this would be better. hopefully the next firmware update can accept custom radio station files (.asx, .m3u, .pls) instead of loading it on the dedicated sites

Rating + 5 The Cat's Meow!

Pros: It is Great! Five minutes to set up and it gave absolutely no issues with my home network. I found all of the big network talk radio shows ABC NBC CBS etc...etc...and tons and tons of internet based radio stations. For it's size it has a great sound and of course you can line it to a high power system. It will pull music off your external hdds and thumbdrives also. This is the answer to the poor A.M. reception we have these days. FM is digital and gives the artist and song info on screen. I urge anyone who likes radio to give this armchair buddy a place in your home.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Fire one up at your place, I know you will love it!

Rating + 5 Really Impressed !!

Pros: Realy good sound quality. Easy to read screen that can be dimmed to 3 levels or turned off. After registering on the web it was easy to add stations from a massive list or enter your own URL's. Adding FM stations was automatic and correct.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Upgraded the firmware (R1.37) on a USB stick I did not notice any changes. I plugged in a small fm transmitter to broadcast it around the house. best $100 I spend.

Pros: Nicely built unit that gives you access to more radio stations that you know what to do with. The sound is pretty darn good for a single speaker.

Cons: The screen is way too bright. There is a backlight timer that will shut the screen off after a set time...but I'd prefer a dimmer instead of it blacking out completely. There is a sleep function, just hit the snooze bar and set the timer...but it doesn't always work. I haven't figured out what causes it not to work.

Rating + 4 Excellent! Internet Radio

Pros: Great little internet radio, clock radio. Lots of features, plays internet radio, plays MP3s from USB thumbdrive, can connect to windows media server (have not tried this one).

Contrary to other reviews, this unit accepts lowercase WPA password characters, you just have to cycle past the uppercase characters.

Cons: No sleep timer to turn off radio. Maybe I'll try to upgrade the firmware but so far no dice.

Other Thoughts: Would definitely (and have) recommend, but would also recommend looking at the Sanyo R227

Rating + 4 Second Best Thing That I Bought This Year...

Pros: This radio is extremely cool, once I read what it could do, I bought it immediately.
It only took me about a half an hour to set everything up, and thats without reading the manual. I was on the wireless system and browsing through all the the stations is the US, and had some of my favorites bookmarked.

Cons: A tuner dial on the radio itself would of been nice to have for the FM radio.
Can't delete just one saved station under favorites, the menu wants to remove all favotites at once!

Other Thoughts: It would have gotten 5 Eggs if it had a manual FM tuner knob on the side...
As for the brightness issue. There are 3 levels of brightness,
"Low-Medium-Bright" and also display-off settings.

Rating + 3 Nice radio, but could be better designed

Pros: Once the firmware update was installed, the radio made a very good connection to my access point. Having 10000 some odd stations to pick from is a great relief. especially when dealing with rotten morning shows on local radio.

It also allows you to play media streamed from your computer, so all your MP3s are available to listen to. However unless you set up all your albums with playlists, the radion plays songs only in alphabetical order, not track number. Very annoying.

Cons: The software needs to be better designed. It shouldn't take 8 keypresses to play one of your favorites. They should have set up the remote so that you just press a button and it plays a station.

There should be a way to enter your own stations. The radio is totally dependent on v-tuner. There are some streams that aren't listed on v-tuner that I can't add.

The first unit I got would stream music just fine, unless it was set up as an alarm. It would never connect to internet radio stations. Instead I would hear some canned tune. The replacement radio works better, but there seems to be the occasional morning where I get to hear the canned tune instead of the designated station.

And everyone here has mentioned the front panel backlight. It is handy in the morning as a backup to the alarm, as the light will wake you up!

Other Thoughts: It's a great little radio for the technically sophisticated, but it's not for everyone. It's menu structure is to complicated. And it's not dependable enough to be an alarm for everyone. However if you don't have a problem dealing with these idiosyncrasies, then it's a great radio! It works great!

Cons: Locks up alot playing internet radio and mp3 from usb stick. Requires power off to reset, basicly a paperweight. Upgraded to latest firmware no help. Buy a Logitec squeezebox boom instead. Newegg was the best part of this transaction. They Rock!

Rating + 4 Radio Radio

Pros: A great replacement for XM, lots of choices in talk and music, sounds good as a desk radio or plugged in to a stereo.

Very tiny learning curve setting it up and you are on your way.

Plays mp3 off a flash drive, Vista recognizes it right away and I can stream, Fm radio is OK.

Cons: Needs a less bright light and favorites buttons.

Not easy to change stations in the middle of the night.

Some times finicky connecting to wireless network, will go through the motions and then fail, works the second time through.

Pros: Does what it claims. Connected to my home WEP encrypted network. Make sure to EXACTLY input the key. Remote does allow upper/lower case letters. Decent sound. Use as a bedroom radio, but not alarm clock. Kept settings when turned off and moved to another room.

Cons: Cannot connect to unencrypted networks requiring a login screen. (Hotels, etc.) Working on that with Aluratek CS. Sees the network, gets IP but cannot connect to VTuner. Limited to VTuner.com website stations, but I found plenty of choices including my hometown sports talk station.

Other Thoughts: Have not tried OTA FM, Ethernet or USB input.

Pros: Connected directly into my wireless network. Setup was a snap with enclosed directions. No need for a PC, although it will stream from the network. At last I can listen to internet radio in the bathroom.

Cons: Aforementioned bright clock face. Would be nice to have a lower light, on all the time.
Somewhat difficult to add new stations, those not on the list of 13,000 plus.

Other Thoughts: This is the future...internet appliances.

Pros: Easy setup, interesting content, lots of features, fully featured remote

Cons: user interface less intuitive than your average cellphone, need additional speakers for any kind of sound quality, ridiculously bright backlight, input via usb is buggy at best and crashy at worst

Other Thoughts: I think a lot a problems with this could have been solved if someone from the company had just taken it home and used it for a week. A simple dimmer on the backlight could have worked wonders. I don't know if my units usb interface was just bad but it works occasionally so it leads me to believe it's a software deal. All in all, I enjoy it and use it often, I just think it was a good idea, poorly executed, and I definitely wouldn't have paid msrp for it.

Pros: Worked flawlessly. Product has been designed with good user interface.

Cons: I did not have much choice of Asian music, so I returned it. I recommend Aluratek AIRJO1F usb stick instead.

Rating + 5 Wow this does a lot!

Pros: Had Wifi connected and listening to stations within 10 min. USB with SDHC card connected and listening to MP3s in another 2 min. FM Radio with ID tags.
Unit will act as a wireless access point! Streaming music from home computer/server. Automatic clock sync/update through internet. Amazed at features and size. Has RCA stereo out jacks. Multiple wired and wireless connection options.

Cons: No battery backup. Sound is not that "big" but hey the unit is quiet small - smaller than I thought it'd be. Adding MP3 files to favorties/playlist is not intuitive at all - manual does not help. Like everyone else said the backlight should have a dimmer option. Though it's an alarm clock, I could not find any sleep option.

Other Thoughts: This thing is absolutely loaded! Does far more than I expected. For the most part it's a breeze - you will need to sit with the manual to get up and running quickly. I'm going to start shopping for a boombox that will do what this little thing does with connectivity and play options. Very happy with purchase.

Rating + 5 Great solution to a non tech problem

Pros: So newegg is a hardcore tech site, and the reviews reflect that.

This product should not be looked at as a technology - but as a solution to a problem - My wife wants to listen to her home radio station - and it answers the problem superbly at a great price.

It worked out of the box and delighted her

Cons: From a technology perspective there are all sorts of cons, but from a solution perspective it hits the mark.

Other Thoughts: Aluratek make great product but they have a terrible marketing department.

My wife had a real problem that she wanted solved (how to listen to her home radio station when she woke up in the morning), and looked for months for a solution, but she is a doctor not a tech geek - so she never found the solution.

I am a geek - so I could translate her problem into a solution - but that should be done by Aluratek.

So, IMHO, double the price and advertise on the websites of the BBC, Radio Classique, WBUR - don't bother with geeks, we are not your target market - we would solve this problem with mythtv.

Rating + 5 Great Radio/Alarm

Pros: I don't have to go over all of the features of the device, but all of them are dead on. The configuration was simple. The audio quality is very nice and the speaker gets fairly load, which I was surprised. The ability to connect to external speakers and even a stereo receiver is nice. The Alarm at first was varying quite but it is an escalating alarm, so it doesn't startle you waking up, instead it slowly eases up to the volume you set. This is a nice feature. I read from other people saying it’s hard to turn the alarm off. I didn't find this to be the case. It has a snooze button as well as a stop but on the remote as well as the top of the unit. The stop button turns the alarm off. The snooze is adjustable which is nice. People also said that the navigation was hard to get around, especial getting to the favorites. If you read the manual, it’s actually very simple. I really recommend this product, especially if you are one that love their internet radio and like having it anywhere.

Cons: Ok, so the cons are as follows. You do need to update the firmware before you use the wireless, if you are using an encrypted network. (Hopefully you are) This is not a problem. It is actually very easy. The device has a website but the only thing that get access to is the upgrade firmware, which I did not have success using. I had to dump the firmware on a thumb drive and it was uploaded in a flash. There is no documentation on the devices website or its password. The login and password is admin. The website for the firmware is http://www.aluratek.com/download_drivers_manuals.php. Then choose it in the driver drop down. Yes, the website is not worded right. Then just unzip the firmware and put it on a thumb drive. The black light doesn't dim it is on or off, but it has an adjustable delay, so you can have it on always or off in 1/3/10/30 mins. It would be nice if it had optical output, but hey, RCA and 3.5" jacks work just fine. The hostname of the device is not changeable.

Other Thoughts: My other thoughts... If you like, things networked and wireless then this will fit you, just fine. I would suggest downloading the manual from the website I listed above, same link. Check out all of the features. It has lots of pictures. The radio is just really super. I can plug it in outside on my balcony, bathroom, and bedroom or where ever your wireless will reach. Best buy has a similar device on sale but it doesn't look as nice as this device. I really think that you can't go wrong with this. I am actually thinking about getting a second one for the living room. I will say having the remote is a wonderful perk. O'ya the FM radio station can be store in a separate favorite list. It also has an auto-programming feature where it goes out and gets the radio stations. It gets good reception, which was impressed, better then my radio with a regular antenna. I can't wait to set it up with my NAS's streaming audio so I can here all my MP3s. Try it out and see for yourself. 8-)

Rating + 5 Very impressive internet radio

Pros: Excellent connectivity, easy set up, easy firmware upgrades. More stations than you could ever possibly check out. Seems to have very good customer support... there was only one station that I couldn't pick up, even the vTuner software on my PC wouldn't play it (the "listen" link had the wrong URL). I contacted customer support about it, received a reply within the hour, stating that the link was fixed for the radio... rebooted it & there it was.

Cons: I only have two cons: 1. The remote control is a little sluggish. 2. When you turn it on, it takes a minute or so to connect (wireless), even if you just want to listen to the USB flash drive. The light, while obnoxiously bright, is controllable by a button on the remote, so you can use it as a remote control nightlight.

Other Thoughts: I haven't used the alarm function, or the FM, so I can't comment on that. I bought it for my wife, so she could listen to a radio station that she used to listen to. She isn't into computers, so this is perfect for her. I bought it somewhere else, for $30 more. I'm very pleased with this product.

Rating + 5 Pretty Slick...

Pros: Am totally amazed by this radio. I've programmed about 20 public radio stations from all over the US in them - if I miss a program on my local station, I can catch it on another in a different time zone. I've set it up to listen to Radio Margaritaville - don't need Sirius/XM for that now. Pretty snappy, responsive, and they've done a great job of finding different radio stations around the world.

Cons: The backlight. Many have said it - it is either on... or off (you can schedule a delay, but...). It is quite bright - too bright to put next to your bed. Also, the navigation keys on the radio and remote - are easy to mis-navigate with. But, all being said - it works quite well, amazingly so.

Other Thoughts: Some have indicated you can't input lower case passwords for wireless connections - I had no problem doing this on the original (and updated) firmware. No problems finding the FW update and .PDF manual on Aluratek's website. The CD included wouldn't read on my PC, but I put it in another and discovered - all that was on it was the .PDF of the owners manual (given to you in paper form and on the website). Not a perfect product, and not that usable as an alarm clock due to the bright display, but pretty darned slick...

Rating + 5 Works like a Champ

Pros: Almost everything.

Cons: Not all radio station from vtuner.com was available. The light is too bright you can’t dim the light (on or off). It's missing home button on remote control.

Other Thoughts: You will be amazed what you can get out of the small box like this. The sound quality is better than what I thought it will be. Good job Aluratek. If you buy this product do firmware update, it work much better after firmware update.

Rating + 5 WoW ...

Pros: I like this radio, makes it much easier hearing internet radio stations not having to deal with 'puters ... :-)
Sound quality is really good once you connect it to external speakers. Internal speaker isn't that bad ... for that size of speaker.
Setup, WEP included, was easy and self-explanatory, didn't need manual.
Got it for $ 99 --> I'm happy, great price !

Cons: I agree ...
"Extermely bright backlight
If you turn off the backlight, you can't see the clock"
--------------------------------------------
But, as I could read, Aluratek tries to find a way to solve this problem.
OK, I can live with it, don't need an extra clock.
But, on the other hand, you can setup clock controlled by NTP and it's sad having this feature and can't use it because display is way to bright.
Hmmm, forgot to mention ... If you need a nightlight ... this could be fine. ;-)

Other Thoughts: >>> "Can't type lower-case letters in WiFi passcodes"
--------------------------
Hmmm, my radio does have firmware R1.05.
Haven't had a problem to enter 128bit WEP-Key, lower-case letters included.
If you click keys ... first you see cap letters, lower-case letters follow after.

Rating + 5 Does all you'd expect

Pros: I bought this internet radio three months ago and added a Logitech S220 2.1 speaker system to it. The sound is excellent and I am thrilled at the many thousands of internet radio stations the radio is capable of receiving. I like the "favorite" stations feature.

Cons: The clock display is way too bright, so I set it to one minute and then it turns off. The radio is complex to tune, but once you've got your favorite stations you can get to them OK. I think there are too many button sequences to press, but this difficulty is not a stopper, because of the great sound quality and stability of the radio. But, I must again say the tuning complexity is quite annoying.

Other Thoughts: I'd like to see a feature like in car radios where there are 5 or more buttons set to specific staions, so I could press one button to turn on the radio and then one more button to tune into a favorite station. I believe this feature, lacking in the current configuration of the radio, is a serious design oversight and if corrected would bring in a larger group of customers who abhor complexity, but who would buy if simplicity of tuning was a key feature.

Rating + 3 Not a Clock radio

Pros: Strong wifi connection (after firmware update)
Lots of Internet radio stations
Plays songs from USB drive or streamed from media player on network
Good FM receiver too

Cons: Extermely bright backlight
If you turn off the backlight, you can't see the clock
Too many clicks required to play something
Alarms too hard to turn on and off
Can't type lower-case letters in WiFi passcodes
Had to update firmware to connect to WPA wifi network

Other Thoughts: This is a great Internet radio if you plan on using it anywhere but your bedroom as a clock radio. You just have to be willing to have to push a few buttons even to play whatever you were playing last time.

If you are thinking of using it as a clock radio, forget it. You can't leave the backlight on and sleep, and you have to reset some of an alarm's settings when you turn it back on, say after the weekend.

I'm outputting it to computer speakers through the headphone jack for really good sound. The built-in speaker isn't bad, but this is better. You can also output the audio to a stereo.

Maybe future firmware upgrades can improve the interface.

Rating + 5 Great Value for radio station fans

Pros: Great addition to any network for Internet radio fans. Quality product. Good tech support. Great signal strength both in wired and wireless mode once network recognizes the radio.
Purchased from newegg. Great service as always.

Cons: 1)LED display screen (backlight) so bright, it could wake up the dead. There's no adjustment setting to tone it down, only options to leave display always on for selected intervals or always off. If always off, you never see the time unless you press a key on the radio or the remote.
2) Can only use channel 11 for radio to be recognized on the network

Other Thoughts: Comcast requires me to use 2 modems for my business, one for my phones and one for my Internet. The Internet modem's firewall had to be remotely turned off by a tech at Comcast for my radio to be assigned an IP address. I guess having firewalls in my D-Link router and Comcast modem blocked the radio. My router displayed the radio using WPA security but, not knowing the password for the Comcast modem's firewall, it was blocked.

Rating + 5 A Happy Satisfied Newegg Customer

Pros: Dealing with NEWEGG has been such a good experience. Newegg is the most respectable online store I have dealt with. Good job Newegg. This radio exceeds my expectation and Newegg's customer service rates 6 eggs. This radio went on sale after I received it and Newegg has offered me a credit, this is an excellent way to give me a warm cozy feeling.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: I have recommended Newegg to others and have heard from other people how they found Newegg to be a good company to do business with. Other stores can learn from the excellent service Newegg provides. How do I invest in Newegg?
One more thought Newegg gets the red underline as it is not in dictionary, should this be added to dictionary? ha ha DONE!
